The reason I don't dive too deeply into fandom is because the entire landscape is littered with people who intentionally misinterpret the message and then blame the media for not fitting nicely into their absolute stinker of a take.

#at this moment it's about the screeching homunculi who are adamant that the institution of Kingdom of Hyrule is Bad Actually #and the story of TotK is terrible because it doesn't take a firm stand against imperialism #like #liiiiiiiike #speculation and theorizing is fun #but when you miss the point that badly that's on you and not the narrative #it's not just zelda #i'm reminded of a time i got shouted at in real life by someone who hated Pearl in Steven Universe #because they and their so had recently decided to do the poly thing that was all the rage at the time #and therefore all media was retroactively bound to the fact that nonmonogamous relationships should always have been considered the norm #and Pearl was wrong for disliking Greg because Rose Quartz has two hands like what in the world #and it always happens #i always find so many people who are so adamant in their fringe views and it drives people off #i don't think they're actively trying to gatekeep #but the stench repels
