Prompt 211
The figure looked down at Billy. Billy looked up at the figure awkwardly from where he was digging through a trash can.
“Um… I can explain!”
Okay he honestly couldn’t, and instead threw a bag at them and booked it like his life depended on it. Which it might! Living in Fawcett meant that there were magical entities everywhere, even if they looked human, and he wasn’t going to get stolen by some fae!
And they caught him. Great. He’s going to die now or get thrown back into foster care- huh? Food? They’re offering- no no, this is some fae bullshit, isn’t it! … But he’s also hungry, so maybe it’ll be worth it…

There are some things we will remember for the rest of our lives
Transcript & Context:
[She couldn't have. I kept telling myself those words until they sounded believable. Billy also had conflicting thoughts about her innocence, judging from his face and actions in the following hours. We didn't know what was the truth. Ultimately she was innocent, but it was no easy task getting there]
[The police at Gibbs Hill provided the documents such as the forensics reports and witness testimonies, but they made no sense. The stab wound images didn't match the weapon. The witness testimonies were under fake names. Not a lot of biological evidence. Unfortunately, the only thing plausible was the fingerprints]
[When my mum was interrogated, she had a right to a lawyer, so she contacted the only person she could think of, Sunny Chaudhry, a criminal defence lawyer and old friend. He came to meet me straight after with details]
Sunny: Vincent, I will do everything possible to prove your mother is innocent. She has been framed.
[Initially, there were disputes between Sunny and Billy's police department with cooperating. He was defending the criminal after all. Further review of the documents proved something was off with Gibbs Hill Police and they decided to reinvestigate the murder. Expert help was vital to reinforce the evidence]
[Another autopsy was done to estimate the time of death, cause and identity. Immediate observation showed he wasn't my father. The body identified was a murder victim, from a case solved a week back. It was enough proof. All that was left was for Sunny to finish the legal procedures and defense strategy for the trial]
[Then the day of the trial came. I listened intently to every word he spoke and forgot my anxiety. The verdict was my mum was not guilty and she was released from all charges. Immediate investigation was to be done on Gibbs Hill Police. Sunny looked so powerful in front of everyone: I was mesmerised by his confidence]
Well, this was my idea for why he wanted to be a lawyer! Seeing Sunny fight for Payton to prove her innocence, opened Vincent's eyes. It's quite meaningful because one impacted his own life in such a significant way. And yes I brought back an old face.
Vincent: [whispers to himself] I want to be like that one day. A lawyer?
[It was a job that positively impacted society, a job that held so much authority. A responsibility to uphold justice and fairness. It provided a voice to the voiceless, a voice that would be heard by people]

Billy Hargrove is an annoying punk, a troublemaker. Always loitering, speeding and Callahan even caught him driving drunk today. Jim has to work over time to bring him home.
So when Neil Hargrove promises Jim that he's "going to teach Billy a lesson", Hopper is actually delighted to hear that. This kid needs some boundaries. For his own good or he'll crash that Camaro into a tree one day.
A few days later Jim sees him at Melvald's, face all green and purple. Jesus, he thinks, Billy really doesn't learn. Picking up a fight after already getting a trouble with the police.
"Billy," he suddenly hears Steve Harrington say. "What happened?"
He sounds concerned. Jim didn't even know they were friendly now- or talking at all. He stays hidden behind a shelf. It's not his business. He stares at the cans of soup in front of him. Something is scratching the back of his head. Something is wrong here.
"I...got caught by the police," Billy mumbles, voice so low Jim can barely hear it. "On Friday, after we... hung out."
But neither Jim or Callahan put a hand on Billy. He was fine when Jim dropped him off... at home.
Shit.
His mouth turns sour. Neil Hargrove's lessons aren't what he expected. They are violence disguised as parenting. Jim wants to knock over the shelf. Or Neil Hargrove. Or himself for being so stupid.
"Fuck," Steve groans. "I wish you could have stayed."
"Me too," Billy whispers. There is a softness in his words, it seems to intimate and Jim's throat clogs up, because he should definitely not listen to this conversation.
"Billy," Steve starts carefully. "Your dad..."
"Don't," Billy snarls.
Hopper knows what Billy is doing. He has done it himself hundredth of times. Pushing people away, closing off, not letting anyone in.
Yeah. Jim is the reason that Billy's face is a bouquet of bruises. He's not going to let Billy get new ones. Its the least he can do.
Jim walks towards them. Billy notices him first, lips thinning and shoulders tensing.
"I think we need to talk," Jim says. "About what happened to your face."
"Nothing happened," Billy presses out while Steve nods next to him, hope flashing across his face. Jim wonders how long he has dealt with Billy's reluctance to talk about it.
"We all know that's not true. C'mon, let's talk about this." Jim cuts himself off, before he can let a "I'm sorry" slip, because guilt and regrets won't help anyone here.
