Cohere podcast: Exploring Immersion with Ed Rodley
On this episode of the Cohere podcast, Bill Johnston and Dr. Lauren Vargas chat with cultural professional Ed Rodley about innovative experience design. Ed shares how his experience as a museum technologist has prepared him to explore and challenge the concept of ‘immersion’.
This season, we are identifying the critical mindsets, skill sets, and toolsets community professionals need to hone for the next iteration of the Internet. Ed introduces the concepts of the ‘magic circle’ and ‘story worlds’ to illustrate ‘immersion’ is not a one-size-fits-all experience.

We’re too small for the sky to pay attention to us: Great Fear on the Mountain by Charles Ferdinand Ramuz
In this novel, the stage is set quickly with little fuss. The story opens at a village council meeting in an unnamed Swiss alpine community where the members have gathered to discuss the shortage of available grazing land for their cattle. The situation is acute and the answer seems obvious to some and ominous to others. High on the mountain lies the verdant Sasseneire pasture, abandoned for many…

Casually sees a TV show that hasn't aired in almost 20 years, who's story got cancelled by the company they were being backed by, and my brain immediately goes:
"HYPERFIXATE AND TURN IT INTO A FANTASY AU NOW"
And I'm honestly along for the ride.
Let me know if y'all wanna hear my dumb, completely insane idea

❝ For as long as she could remember, Cher had been best friends with Bill Preston and Ted Logan. Nobody outside of their little group could quite understand why - after all, Cher was pretty and kind and one of the smartest students at San Dimas High, and Bill and Ted were... well, Bill and Ted. Relentlessly cheerful and friendly to a fault, but not exactly the brightest bulbs on the Christmas tree.
But what no one outside of the three friends seemed to understand was how comfortable Cher was around the two boys. Because while the redhead may have been fiercely intelligent and had most of San Dimas High's male population (and even some of its female population) drooling over her, she was also painfully socially awkward, terrible at public speaking and constantly stumbling over her words when conversing with most people. Bill and Ted were the only people besides her parents she'd always felt perfectly safe around, the only ones she could get out a whole sentence to without stuttering. And because of this fact, Cher clung to her two friends, terrified of anything that might break up what Bill had deemed their "friendship triangle".
Now, that event which Cher has spent so long fearing seems to be looming on the horizon - because if Bill and Ted don't absolutely ace their history project, the boy that Cher has developed a terribly strong crush on will be shipped off to Alaska and their little group of three will be ripped apart. So when a strange man claiming to be from the future appears in an even stranger phone booth and offers to send the three friends on a journey through time to kidnap real historical figures for Bill and Ted's report... well, Cher will do almost anything to keep Ted around. Who cares if this is all scientifically impossible?
What happens next will ultimately involve a barroom brawl, a constantly mispronounced philosopher's name, chaos at the local mall, a jailbreak... and, perhaps, Cher realizing that her crush on her raven-haired friend might not be quite so unrequited as she's lead herself to believe. ❞

[Caitlin Johnstone] Trump Puts An Appropriately Ugly Face On A Very Ugly Empire - The only thing I like about Trump is exactly what so many empire managers hate about him: he says the quiet parts out loud.

🐆 Similarly to what I did last night, today I looked through another blog post on Andreas Deja’s animation blog in which he showcased some of Milt Kahl’s rough animation drawings of Bagheera in “The Jungle Book”. They are of the scene early on in the movie where Bagheera orders Mowgli to climb a tree to sleep in for the night: “Go on, up you go.” I even looked some other Milt Kahl drawings of Bagheera which showed how the animator observed how actor Sebastian Cabot read his lines as Bagheera during recording sessions for “Jungle Book”. Another one of Bagheera’s main animators was Ollie Johnston, whose scenes included the panther’s discovery of Mowgli, taking him to the wolves den, his nighttime discussion with Baloo, and his heart eulogy thinking that Baloo was killed by Shere Khan. Yesterday was the 56th anniversary of Disney’s “The Jungle Book”. #Disney100

In a hidden corner of the world: In Red by Magdalena Tulli
In a hidden corner of the world: In Red by Magdalena Tulli #WITMonth, #Polish Lit
Whoever has been everywhere and seen everything, last of all should pay a visit to Stitchings. Simply take a seat in a sleigh and, before being overcome by sleep, speed across a plain that’s as empty as a bank sheet of paper, boundless as life itself. Sooner or later this someone—perhaps it is a traveling salesman with a valise full of samples—will see great mounds of snow stretching along…
