Walking into a yarn shop like it's an art museum. Admiring all the colorways and textures of the various skeins. Nodding my head at the tasteful displays of handmade items by the local knitting/crochet group to demonstrate the different yarn brands. Talking to the owner to learn more about the local fiber art scene and learning about different dyers, and crafters in the area that I would have never found on the internet. Buying one too many skeins to continue my pursuit of creating beautiful things to bring joy into mine and others lives. My way of paying homage to this wonderland of fibrous beauty.
Fucking glorious.
#my local yarn store will be the death of my bank account#but seriously most of the time i just like going to this yarn shop a few towns over just to look at the yarn and admire it#it's a nice little cozy place and i love it for the space it is#side note: support local businesses if you can and fuck the big box stores#thanks for coming to my ted talk#crochet#knitting#fiber crafts#fiber art#yarn#yarnblr#knitblr

If somebody in your life offers to knit or crochet or, really, create anything for you, please be an active participant in the creation of the piece they are making. I adore making and gifting things, but nothing bums me out quicker than a person who passively just goes "okay," to my ideas about what I'm making them - it can send the message that they won't like it, or that they don't care, even if they're happy about my offering. The back-and-forth feedback is a great way to make sure that you are being gifted something that was truly worth the time, effort, expertise, and money that will inevitably go into the gift!
I know it's really hard to be an active participant, believe me, I'm an anxious ball of horror, but it will only do good for both parties to interact in this situation. It is a big deal to be offered a hand-crafted gift, but it's also something we want you to love and use, and that can only happen if you tell us what would make you fall in love with what we create.
#advice#relationships#art#fiber art#knitting#crochet#i always try to remember that some people's responses to something big is to clam up and become more passive...#..i just want to remind you that you aren't in danger of Ruining Everything by suggesting things or asking questions or saying what YOU wan#like i asked my dad specifically how he would feel if i made him items SPECIFICALLY so i could gauge if he would like them for instance#i don't just want to create something i want the recipient to actually LIKE it#which is why i typically (not always) ask how somebody would feel about me giving them a specific gift#i know some people genuinely don't care in the sense that they would appreciate ANYTHING but sometimes that doesn't always translate i gues#im crocheting a set of coasters for my dad and i really hope hell truly like them because i'm not sure based on how he responded to my ideas#it makes me so happy to gift things but it's with the caveat that the recipient will think it is An Amazing Gift That Is SO Good And Useful

Love your bg3 comics! I hope you don’t mind some world/lore building questions!
I was wondering why Kit looks so much more like Dorian than Astarion, and it got me thinking about how vampire genetics work. Do you think that the only physical traits that get passed down are ones from before becoming a vampire? That said, what do you think Astarion looked like before he was turned, and did Kit inherit any of those traits?
i think that would make sense!! i feel like pre-vampire astarion probably looked about the same but less pale and gaunt (personally i hc that he just went grey really early and i’m also in the brown-eyed astarion club)
honestly though, the real reason kit didn’t get anything from astarion is because the redleaf genes are too strong and they all look exactly the same
(he still got the teeth and the fluffy hair though)
#ramble#bg3#dadstarion#dorian comes from a family of sentient photocopiers#kit could still have astarion’s eyes though in this case#i think he inherited more personality than looks#he’s an introvert and likes to steal things#also i just realised his little outfit in the last one is the perfect dorian/astarion combo#the big poofy shirt with the knitted vest

hate to be cynical on main but it really do be like this every single time a new "not like social media" art platform comes out of the woodwork and then people migrate to it in droves just to find out the only other people using it are other artists that they're competing with for any scrape of viewership from an increasingly oversaturated internet that didn't exist when we were teenagers in 2009
#idk who needs to hear this but deviantart wasn't all that#i know because i was there LOL#people got doxxed and hate crime'd on DA all the fucking time#that feeling of having a 'tight knit community' that you miss was just weirdos on the internet having a good time talking to each other#and a lot of people were also having a real BAD time#nowadays every online conversation is quietly prefaced with the expectation that it'll turn into a new follower or shop sale#so people just aren't willing to invest in long-term community building anymore just for the sake of having a community#it's just “will this site help me grow my career?” no the fuck it won't no single site has ever done that for anyone jfc#the internet was also just a lot smaller back then#you were a “big deal” if you had even just 100 followers#sorry to those who aren't ready to hear this but we can't have what the internet was in 2009 again#enshittification

If you're interested in textile art, please understand it will not end at one of the arts. Interested in weaving? There are many different types, so now you're learning about the culture these styles come from, and with that comes learning about their clothing. Now you're interested in learning how to sew clothing, and much of it has some kind of embroidery. So you do research and see how beautiful it is, and different types of embroidery exist. You decide to learn embroidery and get curious about lace because often they're seen together.
Prepare for a journey and get real good at organizing. You'll soon lose space because of supplies and tools.
#words from the artist#textile artist#textiles#i made macrame jewelry for over 20 years and burned out but i'm also in a family of quilters and found something new. now i make quilts#and have a huge interest in learning thread painting and embroidery. most importantly i want to learn how to make and repair my#own clothing. do you know how difficult it is to find clothing thag fits a curvy woman barely over five feet tall? apparently being short#means being skinny. i'm not nor are most short folks i know. plus i can never find anything with big bold bright prints or shorts not made#of denim and at knee-length but also baggy. the “shorts” i have are shorts on people over 5'6“. they're capris on me. the only way i will#ever have clothes i love is to make them myself. i also intend to decorate current and future clothing with embroidery.#and also learn sashiko and apply it to mending and handquilting. my right hand and wrist are what's stopping me from learning#knit or crochet and several other things. yup physical disabilities are why i haven't taken those on.

my OTHER toxic knitting trait is ignoring gauge entirely for plushies and being pleasantly surprised by the creacher's final size when it's done
#text#personal#knitting#like i know it doesnt matter but WOW i only ever use the starting materials as General Guidelines#'oh you suggest DK and worsted. interesting!'#'ill be making this on super bulky with whatever needles i have on hand thanks :)'#(today though im using the right yarn but needles 1.5 sizes too small. also because that's what i have on hand lmao)#it really doesnt matter and is therefore Fine#i just wish* i had ANY idea how big this lil guy will be 😂#*(not enough to swatch honestly. the whole project is like. 50 rounds. why bother.)#little avogato
