Idk if I'm just slow but I recently noticed that Horimiya characters follow this theme of not being exactly who they seem to be on the outside (literally everyone).

Like how Hori was a popular girl but also a family girl too, and Miyamura seemed quiet and cold but was actually nice. Sengoku wasn't a harsh student council prez, Remi wasn't a dumb cute girl, Yuki wasn't an easygoing chill classmate. Everyone was pretty misunderstood, almost everyone except one:

Shuu Iura will always be, in my opinion, the best written character in Horimiya. Not my favorite, that spot is reserved for Sengoku, but probably one of the most complex.

I think it's due to the fact that most of the others were different on the inside but didn't really go to great lengths to hide it, usually they just didn't have people who truly understood them. However, Iura purposefully acts different around others, even close friends, and that's really neat to me.

His relationship with his sister and how he acts when he's alone compared to when he's with his friends is so real, and it's very well done. He's exaggerated and loud at school, and everyone knows people like that irl. His switch around from "class clown" to "mature and protective older brother" was something I definitely didn't see coming, and the fact that he wasn't just the comedic relief like I thought he would be was refreshing.

It's a different kind of interesting character trait compared to "the bullied kid" or "the smart kid" that Miyamura and Sengoku follow, and I've always loved the whole "im so silly but actually im pretty serious" character type.

I find characters who put on clownish fronts to be rather interesting, especially because his classmates and his friends don't know his true personality with the exception of maybe Tooru. Even at the end of the show, when the gang was close, he was still hiding his true personality from them.

The way Knuckles immediately steps in between Sonic and Tails when he sees that Sonic is angry and Knuckles defends Tails.

I don't think that Sonic would hurt Tails and I don't think that Knuckles thought so but I love the way he is triggered by Sonic's behaviour and he immediately decided to defend their little brother while being gentle with Sonic at the same time. I know I already made posts about how amazing Knuckles was in this movie being such a good big brother to these two but I always keep finding more moments where he's showing just how much he cares about his whole family.

“NOOOOOOO!!!” 

At the sound of Yuuji’s terrified scream, you and your boyfriend, Choso, quickly stand up. Before you two can even make it to the living room, you see the four year-old practically flying across the space so he can reach his brother. “Choso!” He cries hysterically, clinging onto him tight when Choso picks him up worriedly, checking him over and searching for any injuries. 

“Hey, hey. It’s okay, I’m here. What’s the matter? Are you hurt?” Choso asks soothingly, rubbing a hand up and down his back. 

“He said he’s gonna eat me!!” Yuuji sobs, burying his little face into Choso’s shoulder. 

You sigh disappointedly. You know what happened. At once, their uncle, Ryomen Sukuna, appears at the doorway, his face a little red from laughing. “Yuuji, c’mon, brat. I was just playing with…  Playing with you-” He’s unable to finish his sentence, because he bends over and continues laughing loudly.

You groan. “Really? The poor kid is terrified.” 

“Cho, please don’t let him eat me!!” 

Choso sighs as he strokes the boy’s pink hair, glaring angrily at his uncle. “He’s not gonna eat you, Yuuji. He’s just being a big jerk right now, I promise.” 

Ryomen flashes him a playful grin. “Am I?” 

“Shut up.” Choso snaps. 

“Or what?” Ryomen doesn’t stop. Riling up his nephew brought him so much joy. “Gonna finally fight me? Or are you just going to roll your eyes and walk away like a little b—” 

“Alright, that’s it.” 

In a flash, Choso safely places Yuuji in your arms, then rushes towards him. The two of them fall to the ground fighting, and you sigh as you adjust your hold on the sniffling child. “It’s okay, Yuuji,” you say as you wipe his tears, offering a small smile. “Wanna go get a snack? I went to the store and got your favorite.” 

He looks up at you with his huge brown eyes, tears clinging wetly to his lashes. “Really?” he asks. 

“Mhm.” In the background, Choso and Ryomen continue fighting. You roll your eyes when you hear something fall to the ground and shatter. You kiss Yuuji’s forehead. “Let’s head to the kitchen, then we can go outside and play.” 

“Yay!”

@goodlucktai mentioned awhile ago about Gio, even as the oldest, becomes the shortest of the turtles even as the boys grow older, but his little brothers will still crouch down to meet him at eye level anyway, because they still respect him and look up to him!!! He's still their big brother!!!

I'm not going to lie, I kinda like the idea of them starting to date again and seeing where it takes them. 🙈 freesia sneaked into my heart for some reason (she kind of started this new trend of mine where i make ocs that were created to be dicks and then me just getting protective of them and trying to reason out their awful behavior kasjsdj)
