You know I was just thinking about this.

Fitz is only ever allowed to overreact to everything, even the matters concerning the damaged state of the family he was INGRAINED to remain loyal to, and the family he loves more than he loves himself. Then people dismiss him, because his character is just “too hard to understand”, too emotional to be palatable.

it’s how he’s never given an emotional outlet and then everyone is shocked when he cracks. And they blame him for cracking. I mean, Shannon almost deliberately wrote him to be dramatic, when you read the scenes where he’s “an angry jerk”, you can see that the word choices Shannon uses paint such an intentionally “over”-emotional image in one’s head. And Shannon has said herself that she never chooses what a character will do, she “lets them be themself” and just writes what happens. She’s not writing him to be a over dramatic jerk just to be another character’s foil or make him look bad, she’s writing the authentic reactions and results of her character when they were placed under pressure to be perfect and perform. She’s sharing the realistic side of being famous and popular and “perfect”. The beautifully ugly part of being expected to perform and failing, and what other people start to think when it happens.

Fitz is an accurate depiction of what it’s like to have a vivacious and caring heart, but having it be shoved into a mold that cracks and damages it.

there's something so personal about Fitz Vacker being 'girl coded' bc of his upbringing and the way he's perceived and how he's been socialized. I personally see him as a straight cis guy- but there's something so identifiable about the way he's perceived as 'hysterical' or 'hyper-emotional' when he reacts totally normally to high stress situations. How he's always expected to be palatable, easy to digest, to carry the burdens unique to him, that will always go unacknowledged. How he can never just be. Everything is a carefully crafted performance piece.

It's the way the foxfire girls sexualize him, (Which also happened to Keefe) how Sophie is always concerned and commenting on his looks. How he's treated like a trophy, something to attain, something to be experienced and then left behind. The way people hate him for his success and hate him for his failures. How he must feel like a piece of meat.

he's beautiful. but nobody cares what goes on underneath.

Something about the way he can never be just good. How his effort and accomplishments are always tied back to his father's name and his appearance. Nothing about him is acknowledged for its own merit. There's always some excuse for why he shouldn't deserve it, that he's had it 'too easy', that it's because of daddy's 'money' that he is where he's at.

Nothing about Fitz is ever allowed to be about him. He's expected to be the 'perfect victim', seen and not heard, any issue he voices is dismissed because he's seen as a 'protected class'... but if he was so protected, why does he never feel safe?

it's something about the way he's always watching himself in 3rd person. it's something about the way he's told to trust the adults in his life that have thrust him into a box that is impossible to maintain. The way he's always been told 'This is who you are. This is who you will be.'

how It wasn't his choice.

How he's so jealous of his care free best friend who doesn't exist in his world, who will never know quite what it's like. It reminds me of being a girl and watching my guy friends just not understand.

How they are free to fuck up. How the phrase 'boys will be boys' sticks to them like putty, and molds to any situation to justify them. That's their lot in life.

While this constant anxiety, looking over your shoulder, running from vultures... that's yours.

i don't know. It's something about Fitz Vacker being girl coded that just gets to me.

Fitz’s POV:

It had been two weeks since Sophie had disappeared. During those two weeks, Fitz had barely slept, lying awake at night, restless. He had known Sophie was out there still. He could’ve sworn he heard her transmitting a few times. 

Help. Please. Anyone, help me.

But now, he knew she was. . . . He couldn’t think about it. He still couldn’t believe it. Sophie was the most talented elf he’d ever met. It didn’t make sense that she could just disappear. 

“Fitz!” Alden’s voice rang out from the massive dining room. “Dinner!”

Fitz sighed and got up from his bed, rubbing the tears out of his eyes. When he got to the table, Biana was already there, sitting quietly and staring at the tablecloth. Her nail polish was chipped, a true sign that Biana wasn’t okay. But of course she wasn’t. The last time she had seen Sophie was when Stina had revealed the reason for their friendship. 

Fitz sank into his chair, staring into space. He could barely taste the meal. His parents tried to make conversation, but eventually, they gave up. The sound of clattering dishes and silverware filled the room. Alvar didn’t show up. Off on a registry mission, probably.

Suddenly, a weak voice rang through his head. He rubbed his temples. You’re imagining it, he told himself. But then he heard it again. 

Please, Fitz. I need your help. If you can follow my voice, places find me.

But you’re dead, he thought, wincing. He was imagining things.

I’m not dead–yet. Please, they’re going to kill us.

He hesitated, opening his mouth to say something to his father, but before he could, one last transmission rang through his head.

It’s too late.

sophie - percy jackson. neither wanted to be a “leader”, were forced into the role till they carried it with pride, uprooted from their original lives and told these insane truths that finally make all the weird shit make sense, can’t help but fall for people who they think don’t like them back but do but it takes forever to realize

fitz - mako from legend of korra. both unnecessarily hated, slightly protective older siblings, dated main character and didn’t end up with her, queer coded, angry all the time

keefe - sirius black from harry potter. hides behind jokes, in love with his best friend, emotionally inept (but working on it), 0 self esteem or self worth, parental abuse and trauma, doesn’t believed they can be loved.

biana - rarity from my little pony. generosity, loves her friends to the end and back, loves fashion, acts of service/being there for people, changes perspective on what beauty really is, gorgeous

tam - evan rosier from harry potter (actually MY mauraders tv show that i made in my head). the only thing they truly love is their twin sisters, would do anything to protect them (even though they are not at all helpless) & nothing is “too far” when it comes to it, CHOSE to be on their parents bad side/outcast when their sisters were forced out, ruthless, mistrusting, & funny asf

alvar - loki from the mcu (no redemption arc). i haven’t watched the show but based off prior knowledge, jealousy for his younger brother, looked over by his parents, does terrible things because of it. however fitz is NOT thor and alvar is not half as hot.

- her uncle (and favorite relative) is councillor Noland

- her two cousins, aunt and uncle, dad, and younger brothers are all frosters so she really can’t stand them

- the only way she would be “plot relevant” if she was cannon is one time she got paired up with sophie is p.e

- rbf + the fact she doesn’t speak much makes everyone think she is rude and judgmental

- really powerful vociferator but it means she’s destroyed parts of her house on accident

- he was helping out humans with leprosy (for the human aid program) and ended up catching it himself

- because of his leprosy he resigned from the council

- the leprosy affects him similarly but not the same as humans

- he spends most of his time now skulking around and being emo and wearing face coverings

- was a homoerotic baddie before he became a leper

- friends with Bronte and Fallon (was friends with Fintan and talks to him/refuses to accept he is evil) (I told u he was homoerotic)

- lost all of his fingers on one hand

- bc of how hard and painful it is for him he doesn’t allow many visitors to see him (other than Fallon or Bronte) (and Fintan)

- the first time sophie saw her was in her neverseen outfit but Dex wasn’t there so no one recognized her and no one put the pieces together for a long time (like until Dex saw her)

- joined during her time at foxfire after Kesler was forced to go to exilium even though he was smarter than most of the school

- started to hate the council because of how talentless people were treated and it descended into her being a (noble)-blood-thirsty villain

- uses human weapons bc they are more effective

- keeps everyone in the neverseen from dying bc they haven’t slept since the dawn of man

- is good at alchemy and buys stuff from keslers store all the time for them (the neverseen)

- the neverseens cook too bc she’s really good at it (but she has slipped devious elixirs into alvars drinks when he annoyed her)

"All your life, did you know You'd be picked like a rose" <- The prettiest flowers get picked first. People poke and prod, and you have to develop thorns to keep them away.

"This town is fake but You're the real thing Breath of fresh air through smoke rings" <- I feel like this can encapsulate how the Vacker's feel about their friends or romantic interests. Alden growing up a Vacker and meeting Della, she's the realest thing that's ever happened to him. Fitz meeting Keefe and Sophie, Biana meeting Sophie and Dex and Tam.

All the lines that are like "You look like ______ (insert famous person)" but it's just people comparing everyone in the family against each other. Alvar is born, people are saying "You look just like Alden (Clara bow)" until, obviously, Fitz rolls around and oh NO "HE looks just like Alden, and he's got all of the good things Alvar had too. (Stevie Nicks/Taylor swift)" And then Biana comes around and it's like "You've got all the good parts of both of your brothers. You've got edge, they never did. (Taylor Swift)"

Because the entire Vacker family is Nothing New coded. Like how long will you love me until you move onto the next thing? Am I only biding time till I lose your attention? And someone else lights up the room?
