I absolutely despise Alden Vacker. Half of that hatred comes from him being problematic, and the other half comes from him putting a bad name on the name Alden. The only character I’ve come across with my name and it’s this guy???

Anyway, never thought I’d catch myself making Keeper of the Lost Cities fanart in almost 2025, but here I am, doing that.

In the 1770s, a war between Britain and the Americas begun to brew and Alden was sent to America to keep an eye on things. He met Alexander Hamilton and was enthralled and annoyed with him to the point that he almost told him he was actually an elf and that he could come and meet everyone. but he didn't. duh.

Flash forward to the present, while looking for Sophie, Alden finds himself on broadway (bc why not it's not like timeline matters in these books anyway) and notices a certain poster and can't help but go and watch because its the human guy he met. and he is enthralled once again. even though it has inaccuracies he loves it.

Anyways, one day, Sophie starts singing songs from Hamilton (bc why not it's not like timeline matters in these books anyway) and Alden is like... "Did you just sing "alexander hamilton" as in the bastard orphan son of a whore?"

and Sophie is like "...how do you know Hamilton songs?"

and he's like, "honey I met Alexander Hamilton."

why? i don't know. it'd be really fucking funny. also I KNOW Juline likes Hamilton as well and it's only a matter of time before Alden finds out.

I feel like the biggest mischaracterization of alden by the fandom is that he is purposefully malicious. Like guys that is a well meaning but still ignorant man who both criticizes and enables the society he lives in. He is the epitome of the road to hell thats paved with good intentions not a cassius clone

Alright so l saw a few people on the internet saying that Sophie Foster is a pick me because she doesn't like make up ,gowns,or anything figuratively feminine.STOPP.I am on full fledged mamma bear mode.Because,pick me is a term used to describe someone,a girl in most cases (i think)who puts down other girls or claims that she is different, to get more attention(from guys.)And Sophie Foster is nothing like that.Sure she doesn't like to wear gowns because she doesn't feel comfortable in them.And come on if you have to wear a 3-5kg gown everyday,every hour of the day,then you would be uncomfortable too.The other elves in the series don't mind it that much because they have always lived like that,and those who feel uncomfortable switch to tunics like Sophie did,and there is nothing wrong with that.You should wear what you are comfortable in.About accessories and makeup,it's clearly stated that Sophie hates make up and fancy accessories(dramatic pause) because she doesn't want to stand out.Sophie has always been uncomfortable with attention (till the last two books)and just wants to blend in with the crowd.She doesn't like the attention that comes with dressing up, because she doesn't want to stand out.And another thing,Sophie never criticised other girls for dressing up.She never put them down to get attention.Like she doesn't think it's WRONG to dress up or attract the crowd.For example,Sophie has always admired Biana for her fashion sense and beauty tho they both have very different styles.Sophie respects Biana's fashion and doesn't judge her for being girly nor does she EVER compare herself to other girls in a narcissistic manner to prove how different she is from "other girls."She is NOT a pick me and DOES NOT give "l'm not like these other girls at all" vibes.Thank you.

I love how every character in KotLC is bad AND good!!

I love how Sophie is impulsive and pushes other people away to work alone, while getting constantly mad at everyone else for doing the same thing. I love how Keefe believes he is the only one who can deal with Lady Gisela and makes rash decisions to do so. I love how Fitz believes so strongly in elvin superiority and gets mad when he's wrong about that. I love when Alden lies and goes behind people's backs and acts controllingly. I love when Linh loses control or acts protectively to a fault. I love finding out how shady Kenric has been, and I love finding out about the good sides of characters like Bronte.

I love how all of these traits sometimes result in good outcomes! I love how they're both flaws and strengths. And I love how every character acts believing they're making the best decisions and are the most correct out of everyone.

I love KotLC, dude. There's not a single character who is entirely black or white, and I think that's fantastic. No wonder we joke about how there's a character for every fan of the series—there's an endless supply of nuanced, complicated characters to choose from!
