happy bi visibility day/month!!!! i wanna talk about biphobia and bi erasure WITHIN our community.

statistically speaking, bisexuals experience the highest numbers of rape, stalking, homelessness, self harm, and suicide, higher than lesbians and gays in our community. lets go through some of those

61% of bisexual women and 37% of bisexual men have experienced rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner. this is higher than the rates for both straight men and women, as well as lesbian and gay people

40% of bisexuals have considered suicide in the last year, almost double that of lesbians and gays.

this study is harder to read through, as its a meta-analysis opposed to just a cited number, but bisexuals do have higher numbers of mental health problems.

thse are just some numbers, not to play the oppression game but to make a point. theres a common idea amongst monosexual queers that bisexuals have an opt out, lesbian feminists see us as betrayers to the cause, theres an idea that the closet is some kind of privlege. then there’s how cishets treat us as sexual objects, the women are sluts and the men are undecided. bi+ people are abandoned by straight society and then by our own community. this kind of alienation is the reason we’re still lacking so much suppoer.

i still see this sentiment, that bisexuals dont suffer as much because we can “live as straight”, as if that doesnt mean we have the capacity to face homophobic intimate partner violence. there’s this idea that we see gay relationships as temporary fun before we live the rest of our lives as (gasp) heterosexuals.

and the people who tell you how great we have it will never aknowlage that no, most of the time we are struggling more, not less. your hypothetical scenarios of bi privlege is just that, hypothetical and not most of our lived realities.

i want to hear from monosexual queers a call for solidarity and support for one of the most suffering aspects of our communities instead of “bi women and their straight boyfriends at pride” and “bi girls who say theyre bi but would never date a girl”(just misogyny).

shoutout to the bisexuals who have only dated their own gender, to the ones who have only dated genders besides their own, the closeted ones, the ones who didn't know until decades into adulthood, to the nonbinary ones, the t4t ones, to the ones who thought they were gay, to the ones who thought they were straight, to the ones who have only dated one person or dated no one at all, to the ones who were told "to just choose", or called a different sexuality based on the appearance of your relationship, and to all the ones told they were "limited" or "transphobic" based on identifying as bisexual. I see you I love you and you deserve happiness
