I'm normal about the wizard I promise
Larian can't hurt me with Gale's slow burn romance if I contribute to the pain
From the line he gives us, it seems Tara did the thinking in the way of using magic items. So the idea that Mr. Hermit never considered asking this of a person didn't feel like much of a stretch 🤣
Okay but joking aside, this idea occurred to me and I just. Needed to exorcise it out of my brain. I knew it wouldn't leave me alone until it existed outside of me lol
As tragic as Mystra's charge is, as far as I can tell Gale seems to avoid reciprocating Tav's advances until he's given it since.... y'know, he might not be around much longer;;;
The way Gale shakes in camp absolutely wrecks me. And I wanted so bad to help him more between when the last item stopped working and when he gets the charge. To do something for him, even if it was a temporary comfort (maybe lose a spell slot or two that day from the cost of something like this?). Larian has already done so, so much in the way of camp interactions like the ones with Astarion (the mirror, the scars, etc) and I am so thoroughly grateful and impressed with what we already get but aeugh, I WANT it haha
Small cameo from @chocolatefrizz89's durge on that last page since this is a multiplayer run~!

*Gale and illithid Tav, holding hands and standing in front of Gale’s mother, Morena, as Gale finishes introducing them as his betrothed*
Gale: …in conclusion, mother, I know you will be as delighted as I am to welcome my darling Tav into the family (affectionately kisses Tav on the forehead)
Morena (visibly stunned, speechless):…
Tav (telepathically, tentacles quivering nervously): It’s an honor to finally meet you, Mrs. Dekarios.
Gale: My love, there’s no need for such formality! (laughing gently) You may address my mother as ‘Morena’ from here on out, and—
Morena: GALE DEKARIOS, have you absolutely lost your mind?? (shaking with anger) I’ve heard barely a peep from you for over a year, you show up here with no prior warning, you bring your illithid betrothed to meet me, and you dare to state that they may casually address me as ‘Morena’?? What in all the hells can you possibly be thinking?!
Gale (shocked, confused):…mother, II thought you would be delighted—Tav is the love of my life, and—
Morena: Not another WORD (turns to Tav)
Tav:…
Morena (throwing both arms around them, pulling them into a warm hug): Oh my dear, I DO apologize for my son’s absolutely dreadful manners! Telling you to call me ‘Morena’—what absolute NONSENSE, you must address me as ‘Mother’ from this moment on, I will accept nothing less, you’re a part of the family now!! (grabs Tav’s clawed hand, starts pulling them into the house eagerly, leaving Gale standing there blinking) I INSIST you tell me everything about how you two met, I want to hear it all! TARA!! (shouting down the hallway) Tara, do come out and meet Gale’s stunning betrothed! Our little Gale is finally getting married!!

Meet Nèva. She’s a wild magic sorcerer from Waterdeep. I originally made her for our Waterdeep: Dragon Heist campaign and ended up bringing her in for Icewind Dale. It only makes sense that she was my first Tav for BG3
(First full body render of Néva, LET’S GOO ) Backstory below the cut 🧇
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Be warned, I’m not much of a writer. Hopefully I don’t ramble too much. TBH, this part’s more for me than it is for you)
Name: Néva (pronounced NAHY-va). This is an alias; her real name is Evélynn (ev-AYH-lin) Margaster
Race and Class: half-elf wild magic sorcerer
First Impressions: Elegant, yet sloppy; flirty and reckless. Upon meeting her, she doesn’t seem to take anything seriously and has a way of turning a negative scenario into a chaotically hilarious situation.
~~~~
From: Waterdeep, North Ward
Family: She is a distant part of the Margaster household within Waterdeep. While she doesn’t have any siblings and is not fully involved with her family’s affairs, she does play an important role within a secretive sect of the Margaster family that still hold ties to Asmodeus worship. She’s not too concerned about “playing her role” and doesn’t fully understand what worship entails until it actually affects her… I like to think of it as the equivalent of going to church without realising what you’re doing and why.
Most defining life moment: Evélynn had a wife - Veronica - whom she was absolutely smitten by. Instead of studying over magical tomes and artifacts that might help the family as she was supposed to, Evélynn would shirk her duties to fawn over the love of her life. Lucky for the Margasters, Veronica had an innate gift for tapping into magic and would pick up the slack. Upon one of their many seafaring conquests, the Margasters find a powerful magical armlet that allows the wielder to receive a great boost to their own magical abilities. Evélynn and Veronica were tasked to study it and determine how useful it would be to further the church. Upon the day of their research review, Evélynn was late to the meeting and Veronica took her stead. As Evélynn finally arrived during the demonstration part of the review, something went wrong with the controls and caused a massive magical surge. Evélynn ran toward Veronica and, in doing so, got the brunt of blast. The armlet becomes infused to her upper right arm and shoulder, melting into her skin. When the dust settled and crumpled bodies lay strewn across the ground, Veronica was nowhere to be found. Evélynn, with very little innate magic ability to begin with, was suddenly imbued with uncontrollable power. She fled for her life, distraught at the disappearance of her wife and in fear of the Margasters getting their hands on her and whatever this artifact was. Evélynn changed her name to Néva and hid in plain sight within Waterdeep, living in squalor inside the Yawning Portal. It is later revealed that Veronica’s soul is stuck inside the armlet and powers Néva’s wild magic.
~~~~
Greatest strength and weakness: Néva is an extremely passionate person. This can be to both her benefit and her detriment. It lends way to her resilience in the hardest times, and her recklessness at other times. This recklessness is mainly seen in her hedonistic tendencies towards alcohol and sex, but can be also come out in poor decision-making on the battlefield. Néva is also a pretty broken person (more one why below); she overindulges in booze and promiscuity to forget most days. Her motto is “ I’m here for a good time, not a long timeline”.
Greatest Desire: More than anything, Néva wants to see her late wife again. She wants to make her whole, hold her close and apologize. At the beginning of her adventures in Waterdeep, Néva wants Veronica alive again. However, as she travels the Swordcoast and many of her leads turn fruitless, she settles for being able to see her wife again and say a final goodbye.
Fatal flaw: Néva’s desire to see Veronica again clouds her actions and moral judgements, leading her down some pretty dark paths. Of course, trying to bring someone’s soul back to a body that no longer exists will lead to powerful necromancy, fringe religions and other planar powers, all of which Néva can barely grasp. Yet she must try. If there is a possibility, Néva will gravitate to it even if it’s detrimental to herself and her party members. This had led to some broken relationships and tough conversations between her and her party. Headcannon: Act 2 of bg3 was a big turning point for Néva’s obsession to get her wife back when she meets and learns more about Isobel and Ketheric. She can see it’s possible yet she is faced with what her future looks like (i.e. what Ketheric has become) if she continues haphazardly down her obsessive path. This leads to a positive shift in her desires and by the time she reaches Icewind Dale, she’s really just looking to be able to put her wife to rest.
Worldview: likely existential in the way that she’s grown up in wealth through conquest. Néva recognizes how blunt and cruel the world is and that if you want to be happy, you have to carve it out yourself. Even after Veronica is gone, Néva’s main coping strategy is to “enjoy” life in whatever that might entail in the moment. It leads to some chaotic shenanigans and drunken mistakes.
Three adjectives: flirty, vibrant, hedonistic
Personality quirks: dresses elegantly but rarely wears dresses, loves a good bottle of red or two…, has a mean rbf, has way too fancy a palate for living in squalor, likes to listen poetry recited in song form, sleeps at the strangest hours
~~~~
Other Random Facts:
the armlet ended up melting into Néva in the rough shape of a butterfly (think kintsugi); coincidently, many of Néva’s spells take the shape of a butterfly;
Néva wears a blue ribbon in her hair that used to be Veronica’s necktie (I really wanted to add this because it reminded me of butterfly wings, but it’s really a awkward angle and ends up looking pretty stupid when I draw her head turned. I’ve dropped this for now and edited the drawing.)
She has used illusion-based cantrips (namely thaumaturgy) to turn tricks at the Yawning Portal (she really should be a bard…)
Bg3 specific: when Néva first met Gale, she was immediately on edge that another Waterdavian who might know her and her family was in the party…she gets more comfortable as time goes on and they have this missed connection sort of thing; Néva initially gravitated to Shadowheart, but something that she did/said during their wine night in act 1 reminded her too much of Veronica, so Néva chose to distance herself; Néva’s dream visitor took the form of Veronica… she immediately knew the dream visitor wasn’t who they claimed to be, but it felt so real that she was okay suspending her disbelieve for a while; Néva ends up with Astarion in a kind of “birds of a feather” way (more doodles exploring this later) - initially, she sees him as a distraction and ultimately uses him in a similar way that he uses you; when he opens up in Act 2, Néva has to reevaluate how she sees relationships and physicality again; the events of act 3 give them plenty of opportunities to open up to each other and learn more about each other’s sorted pasts…Néva would have shared more about her late wife; after the events of bg3, I’d like to think they travel together to search for a way to walk in the sun and a way to separate a soul from metal
#6 for Horath
6. How would the player go about meeting them in Act 1? What is their introduction?
Oh man, the player would find Horath in the blighted village, sitting there, wearing a damaged red n black drow armor and looking kinda defeated but hiding it as much as he can. He'd be grumpy but introduces himself as an artificer not at his prime and joins the band under the good ol' reason "we have the same disease n need a healer" He'd start off with a "broken leg" condition that limits his movement speed a little. The nautiloid situation left one of his prosthetics broken and he lacks the means to fix it, as it needs an adamantine part. Having been abducted by the flying squid ship right after stepping a foot outside the caves for the first time, he's not very optimistic about the surface and wants to go back down.
Talking more to him reveals he had sensed a way back to the underdark through that well, but the spider matriarch jumped on him and he just ran back outside.
Taking him to kill the spider matriarch would have two interactions, one as the player approaches the spider, he'll show genuine fear towards fighting it, but can be reassured it will be okay (or called a coward lol) After defeating the spider he'll rejoice in having it dead, with some checks probably the player could learn here that his paranoia is a religious one. He's been freshly forsaken from the Spider Queen and fears retribution from her. So killing this big spider is a little symbolic boost of confidence.
And yes his broken leg thing would tie with the Grymforge. Horath would be extremely invested in the clues of that mystery because it means he'll have a way to fix his leg. He'd also feel very giddy about being the one to find it after so many drow failed. Taking Horath to the forge would have him fix his leg condition and he'd make a couple special explosives for the player too as a thank you.
Name: V'nemre ("Nem" for short)
Race: githyanki
Class: (ex)-cleric of Vlaakith (it's complicated :-/ )
((more under the cut ))
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Eyes: slight heterochromia, with her right eye a pale blue "opal" and her left (often hidden in the shadow of her loose hair) a pale green "opal"
Hair: dark black with a slight raven/blue tint in some lighting; braided on her righthand side
Skin: her githyanki markings (I call them frog spots, does anyone else(?)) are somewhat similar to Lae'zel's and others seen in game, but her more defining markings are those across the bridge of her nose and spanning the tops of her ears
Scars: a thin slice down her right cheek from days spent learning under her creche's sa'varsh, courtesy of a zealous peer with quicker reflexes
Accessories: both ears have been pierced in multiple locations with small gold or silver rings in a slight alternating pattern; she also wears metallic eyeshadow in a gold similar to both her earrings and the small details of her irises
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
((spoilers for act 2, I'm mid act 3 as of writing this))
Following their rift with Vlaakith, Lae'zel and V'nemre both struggle to shift their view of the world knowing what they now know about their queen. On more than a few occasions, the pair found themselves sitting together in silence as the rest of their companions slept, unable to put words to the thoughts running wild in their heads.
Nem struggles particularly in corralling her clerical abilities now that her trust in Vlaakith has been shattered, calling to question how she hasn't been cut off from the source of these abilities altogether. Nem begins hoarding potions of healing for the party in an attempt to squash thoughts of self-doubt following multiple ambushes from Vlaakith's forces, and she finds that 'guidance' in particular to fumble the desired outcome more often than not. She falls further into her soldier roots, but is constantly reminded why hand to hand combat has always been her last resort.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you've read through all of this, thank you! I'm trying to get into a better habit of sharing about my characters rather than being too embarrassed and just keeping them locked tight in my thoughts 😅
Are there any other githyanki clerics out there I should know about? 👀 I would love to see some githyanki tavs or tavs you have that you think might get along with Nem!
Pidge’s soul site has an interesting side effect of showing her buffs and debuffs attached to people’s souls. In Gale’s case… she was legit freaked out of him on sight and that was compounded by him being a dreaded WIZARD. Eww. They have cooties (Pidge’s mother taught her to fear and avoid wizards for control reasons blah blah OC lore).
More sketch less inking adventures care of Pidge! My lines felt way less confident today lol.
Who should she run into next?
Cursed Eye Magical Effects: Darkness, sleep, web, hunger of hadar, summon spiders, darkfire
Backstory: This story starts with the elf druid Inara and her daughter Brilliance. Inara absorbed Brilliance’s magical abilities when she was young in order to defend her homeland from a great threat, so Brilliance grew up to be a Paladin. She fought in a party with the bard Keane and they fell in love. Keane had to make a deal with a questionable figure in order to win a treacherous battle, and soon after that they settled down. They had Ferelith who had her mothers lost sorcerer magic, Sirius who grew up to be a Cleric, and Monday who was born a Tiefling as the consequence of her fathers old deal.
Unbeknownst to them, Inara, who was thought to be dead, was scouting their children to host a powerful item she stole. She attempted to give it to Ferelith in the girls sleep, but it rejected her and turned her magic into wild magic. So Inara realized she had to acclimate them to fit the items magic. She visited Monday and posed herself as a magical witch and trained Monday to be a Druid until the day she was strong enough to be given the great gift. So she gave Monday an eye that held the stars. It’s power was indeed mighty, but unstable and would give off random magical effects with various disastrous effects.
Brilliance decided to ban magic in the house since it was safer if Ferelith and Monday didn’t practice it. So they grew up and entered the same guilds their parents were in, both dealing with the pressure to perform a certain way for their families. Ferelith grew up expected to be the perfect daughter but ended up the glass child, and Monday was under constant pressure to conform to the status quo since she already wasn’t representing her family well in their community. The tension between the two came to an all time high and Ferelith’s magic went wild at the same time that Monday’s cursed eye surged and their brother Sirius was hit by the blast. He was put into a coma that no medicine or magic could wake him from. So the sisters decided to venture out and find a way to fix Ferelith’s magic and return the stolen eye in order to wake their brother, but instead were swept up by the Nautiloid.
Tav (during the act 1)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A few notes about her!
Tav is a human sorceress, born in the Heapside district at Baldur's Gate but was taken in the orphanage attached to the Open Hand Temple (Rivington).
She doesn't know/remember a thing about her family, she was renamed "Tav".
Her wild magic starts around the age of 14 (or how to make teenage years even more complicated).
At 21, she leaves Rivington (after yet another magical accident) to live in Cloakwood, where she discovers about the nature of her magic (thanks to a shadow druid she met there) and tries to learn how to master it better.
She's 24 during the actual events of the game.
She's 5'5", with a thin, slight and squarish build.
She is passionate about alchemy and makes her living from what she sells in the Rivington market (potions and various resources she finds in Cloakwood).
She doesn't like Baldur's Gate and is wary of cities in general (bad experiences from gangs and violence), but she's not quite happy in the forest either (she's not suited for the loneliness there).
Things she really loves in Rivington: listening to streets bards!! Going to the circus!!
Things she really loves in Cloakwood: the nature, learning on her own, the PLANTS!!
She is not devoted to any particular deity, even if she has a certain gratitude for Ilmater, or more particularly the priests who took care of her.
Goal of her life? Not dying.
❤️‍🔥 Anabel Lee ❤️‍🔥
Tiefling ❤️‍🔥 Barbarian ❤️‍🔥 Wildheart
Anabel, oh Anabel...what's there to say? A pretty but ditzy little demon who wished to be a cleric but was just too angry, airheaded, and impatient for it to work. Barbarian would do, she thought with an eye roll when the choice was first made, eventually finding pride in her class but secretly being jealous of Shadowheart's specialty upon meeting her.
Chaotic, charismatic, and lowkey full of anger, Anabel does what she wants when she wants, although she can be easily swayed if you're attractive enough and also some kind of demon. Perhaps...the devil. Like, the actual devil. Her friends hate that she listens to that guy, much less bats her lashes and twirls her tail at him, but hey, they aren't in charge of this operation, now, are they?
