sutekh was a fantastic villain in 1975. sutekh was a compelling and frightening antagonist for one serial. it’s okay that his motivation was just “destroy everything, i hate all living things”because he was only around for one serial before tom baker sealed him in a temporal sarcophagus forever. and it should have stayed that way, with the exception of, maybe, a few big finish excursions, since they love to reanimate the corpses of dead characters.
sutekh is NOT a compelling enough villain to be refitted as the big bad of a nuwho series. “kill everyone now” is the most generic motivation a bad guy can have. “i bring death” ok what else do you bring? do you represent anything? do you have any subtextual value, do you have symbolic meaning beyond “lol, die everyone because i said so, i’m an evil egyptian god”. there’s no substance to him, nothing deeper. a character like the master is practically made of substance, his history and the doctor’s are entwined from the start and that’s what makes him so fascinating as a threat, but even lesser iconic villains — daleks, cybermen, weeping angels, ood, the silence, the great intelligence, the fucking fisher king from before the flood — all have complex and intriguing motives and philosophies of their own. okay, maybe not the angels, but they represent something. they stand in for a concept (in the case of angels, for example, the very meta concept of being glued to your screen, physically unable to look away).
what does sutekh stand in for? he’s just death. he wants all life gone. that’s not interesting, that’s not exciting beyond the scope of one serial or one episode. he’s not nuwho material, he’s definitely not nuwho finale material. you may as well just plop the grim reaper there, scythe and all, go full torchwood (derogatory), instead of embracing the dated, orientalist egyptian imagery russell has insisted on doubling down on. i’m feeling pessimistic. i’d really been hoping for the “stuck-in-a-tv-show” theory to be proven right. how naïve of me.

Monster High (generation 1)
It’s great to be back, I’m feeling a lot better and while I’m still not “healthy” I’m more than able enough to write this review.
Monster High is a multimedia franchise, primarily a fashion doll line aimed at young girls. It might surprise you to learn that I am not the target demographic for this series, but I’m more than willing to give this series a fair shot. I was not familiar with this series before starting this review beyond technically having watched Izzzyzzz’s overview of the franchise at some point, and I mostly had that on in the background when working on something else. I’m practically going in blind.
Frankie Stein
Let me start off this section off by adressing that the current version of Frankie Stein is NB, and uses gender neutral pronouns. I looked into it to be safe, and as I understand it, these are considered different characters that happen to share a name, kinda like all the different guys named Link from Zelda.
Frankie is a reanimated corpse, daugher of Frankenstein’s Monster, as you might imagine from her name. She’s the Audience Surrogate, unfamiliar with the ways of the world but wanting to do the right thing, and a strong want to fit in. She can discharge electricity, usually involuntarily when stressed or excited.
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, alternative title The Modern Prometheus, is often cited as the earliest work of Science Fiction. It follows one Victor Frankenstein as his obsession with playing God leads to the creation of a monster that torments him. The monster itself suffers a great deal due to Victor’s hubris, overall quite a miserable time for everyone involved. Frankie seems to mostly take after the Universal adaptation of Frankenstein, specifically the green skin and bolts in her neck being iconic to that iteration. The electricity thing is probably an homage to how that version of Victor brings his creation to life.
Frankie is not my favorite character. Can’t quite put my finger on why, there’s plenty about her design I like. The heterochromia is neat, and her fall apart nature gets a lot of use in the shorts, with characters often asking her to “lend a hand”. Her hairstyle is a clear homage to the Bride of Frankenstein and the myriad of stitches is always fun. Maybe the strict adherence to Universal’s version of Frankenstein rubs me the wrong way.
Draculaura
Draculaura’s a vegetarian Vampire, the daughter of Count Dracula. She’s the most feminine of the group, and besides Frankie usually the most willing to give people a chance. She’s dating Clawdeen’s brother Clawd, and the two are very loyal to each other. Before the two met Draculaura was kind of boy crazy, especially compared with the rest of the cast.
Draculaura is the daughter of Count Dracula, which between Monster High and Castlevania I guess means it’s generally accepted Dracula is terrible at naming his kids. Actually, the wiki states that not only is Draculaura adopted, it’s not even THE Dracula, it’s some other guy. It just makes the whole thing confusing. Bram Stoker’s Dracula is in many ways responsible for how we in the modern day perceive vampires, with specifically the Universal film adaptation solidifying many things, such as the ability to transform into bats and the lack of a reflection.
Draculaura’s design, unlike Frankie’s, is not very invocative of her more famous relative, and I appreciate her design’s originality. The portruding fangs and bat motif help her to read as a vampire regardless, and her Victorian era-inspired look helps bring out her immortal nature. Overall, good design.
Clawdeen Wolf
Clawdeen comes from a very large family of werewolves. Due to her upbringing she’s the most resourceful of the group and is often the most level headed one. A bit they do in the shorts is at the beginning of the short Clawdeen will give a poor piece of advice and at the end of the short she’ll contradict herself with a good, contrary piece of advice.
Unlike the other main three, Clawdeen is not related to a famous monster, though given the precedent set by the other two, it’s probably safe to assume there’s some Universal’s The Wolf Man in there. The movies and shorts often making use of her canid features and her increased proficiencies in the presence of a full moon.
Clawdeen’s lack of reliance on an established popular monster leads her to be the most original of the main trio, and of many of the side characters. According to the wiki she’s supposed to be covered in fur, which does not come across in her design very well. Overall her Gen 1 design doesn’t read as “werewolf” very well, though her strong personality carries her in my opinion. Not as strong a design as the other two, but still a fun character.
Cleo De Nile
Cleo is I guess another reanimated corpse? It’s kinda unclear how the whole “mummy” thing works, she might just be like a more able bodied ghoul. She’s got an unreasonable amount of self confidence, and is very proud of her relationship with Deuce. Unlike Draculaura and Clawd their relationship is never really challenged from what I saw. She sees herself as something of a role model to all the other monsters at Monster High, and depending on the needs of the story she’ll occasionally be right.
Rounding out the Usual Suspects, Cleo De Nile’s obvious inspiration is Universal’s The Mummy, though her father is stated to be the ancient Pharaoh Ramses the Great. The movie’s mummy is a fictional priest by the name of Imhotep, played by Boris Karloff, same guy that played Frankenstein’s Monster and provided the voice of The Grinch. These four monsters (Frankenstein’s Monster, Count Dracula, The Wolf Man and The Mummy) are the four most popular of the Universal Classic Monsters, and are often paired together even outside of that context (Count Chocula & Co., Hotel Transylvania, your local Dollar Store’s seasonal Halloween section, etc.), with the occasional inclusion of the Creature from the Black Lagoon, the Invisible Man and the Phantom of the Opera.
Cleo’s design is by far the least monstrous of any character from this series, and even in terms of her personality and abilities she could hardly be considered frightening or even abnormal. Her characterization isn’t all that consistent, sometimes she’ll act as the voice of the student body and other times she’s treated as the school idiot. I’ll admit I’m a bit biased as I’m just not into the whole “mummy” thing.
Ghoulia Yelps
Ghoulia is a very intelligent ghoul who speaks a fictional foreign language that all the rest of the cast understands. Despite being part of the main group since the very beginning her name is not in any of the intro songs that I saw, and that bothers me a lot. There’s also the issue of her potentially being an untasteful depiction of a neurodivergent person. Ghoulia is a Ghoul as you might imagine, a Zombie, and the brainiest girl at school.
Once again, Ghoulia is not related to any specific popular monster, though it’s pretty difficult for zombies to become popular given their tendency to act as a swarm instead of individuals. This is actually addressed in Monster High, with Ghouls supposedly being very easily influenced and made subservient, which is how Cleo and Ghoulia became friends. To keep up the trend of me talking about classic monster movies, Night of the Living Dead is NOT by Universal (shocker), it’s an independent film that due to an oversight was accidentally made public domain and served as the basis for how we expect zombies to act in modern pop media. Funnily enough, the word Zombie hadn’t begun to be used to refer to the undead, with the term “ghoul” being used by the production team, and no term at all used in the film. It’s a pretty good movie, and it’s easy to find online thanks to it being public domain. I recommend giving it a watch.
I feel like I have to address this with how my previous post popped off: Ghoulia’s animal companion is an owl name Sir Hoots A Lot, which shares an extremely similar name with a cosmetic for the Sniper in Team Fortress 2, Sir Hootsalot. This is most likely a coincidence, however the Monster High character did come first.
I actually really like Ghoulia. She’s got a fun design, and the pun of her being brainy, cuz like “Braaaainsssss”, is really cute. There is, as previously mentioned, the potential issue of her being neurodivergent coded, however she’s mostly portrayed positively, and it doesn’t seem to have been done intentionally.
Lagoona Blue
Lagoona’s a Sea Monster, an overall reliable, level headed and physically capable character. Her relationship with Gill is explored in the shorts, starting as a one sided crush to Gill confronting his parents about their dislike of sea monsters, as his family is freshwater. The writers seem to know she’s kinda overpowered as she’s often off doing her own thing, or has some convenient excuse to not get involved with issues.
Lagoona is stated somewhat vaguely to be the daughter of a Sea Monster and an Ocean Nymph on the wiki, which would potentially leave this section of the review empty if not for her boyfriend being freshwater and very likely having some Creature from the Black Lagoon inspiration. The Creature from the Black Lagoon is unapologetically an allegory for race relations, and though the original film did not depict the creature sympathetically, future interpretations and homages would give the creature far more characterization, culminating in works like The Shape of Water, which actively contradict the original film’s message. Come to think of it, Lagoona and Gill’s relationship shares some parallels too…
Though Lagoona does suffer from the “just paint em blue” fallacy, I’m still inclined to like her design. Honestly I’m not a fan of her depiction in the shorts but I think she really hits her stride once she enters into 3d. Also basically all the characters in this series suffer from “just paint em blue”, so it’s really not fair to hold it against only her.
Abbey Bominable
Abbey is an exchange student from the Himalayas, who confusingly has a Russian accent. She comes off as blunt and cold but she’s eager to make friends, and her straightforwardness is blamed on her upbringing on mountains teaching her to never waste her breath. She’s a Yeti with tremendous physical strength and ice powers.
We’ve officially reached the side characters, which means these characters can basically be taken at face value. I don’t have much to say about Yetis anyways besides it seems to be a cultural thing so very likely all western depictions of it are ignorant or insensitive.
Abbey’s cool, she is to Monster High what Rolf is to Ed, Edd n Eddy. She brings a vaguely foreign twist to the cast, and her place as an outsider often leaves her as the most likely to think outside the box. I will say, however, that her design doesn’t exactly match her personality, and it doesn’t seem intentional.
Toralei Stripe
Toralei is basically what I expected Cleo to be when she was first introduced, she’s a much more traditional Mean Girl. Her only motivation when doing anything seems to be “how can I cause the most chaos possible?” According to the wiki Toralei is a Werecat, which I was surprised to learn is an actual thing.
Toralei, and I mean no disrespect when I say this, is what I wanted Clawdeen to kinda be, in the visual department. Perhaps her passing resemblance to my own Gremlins subconsciously influenced my decision but those girls are more lemur-like. Her multicolored pattern reads a lot more like fur than Clawdeen’s does, and I do like me a love-to-hate-’em villain.
Spectra Vondergeist
Me talking about Spectra might seem a bit odd since she’s not really considered an important character, but I decided to include her because I’m incredibly biased and really like her 2d design. She writes a blog or something on the happenings at Monster High, she’s usually just floating around taking pictures of things.
She’s see-through, has purple hair, dark sclera and wild hair in her 2d depiction. If she’s not the coolest looking side character then I don’t know who is.
I initially wanted to add quick thoughts about the Monster Boys of Monster High, but this has already gone on long enough. Besides, it would’ve just culminated in me finding a way to share Jeckyll Jeckyll Hyde with y’all, so I’ll just cut to the chase. Maybe some other time.
youtube
This series ended up being basically what I expected it to be, I can definitely see myself enjoying these films as a young boy in much the same way I enjoyed the likes of Bratz and Winx, and much like them having very little in the way of shame about it. I just missed the Monster High boat however, so what are my thoughts about it? The character designs are delightfully out there for fashion dolls, especially at the time, and the characters are fun homages to classic monsters.
As for their Monster Girls? Despite the series’ massive popularity you might be disappointed to learn how small its influence on Monster Girl character design is, likely because of what people normally associate with the subject. Monster Girls aren’t for kids, after all, it’s a niche fetish thing. But why is it that way? For Monster Girl Connoisseurs like myself Monster High offers a refreshing look into a reality where such preconceptions don’t exist, and Monster Girls merely are. Definitely worth a look if you can overlook the occasional simplicity of the plots and characters.

So, I’m going to skip over the majority of that scene, because as I stated earlier, while I don’t have the same visceral reaction to it that some do, reading it all written out in detail is… pretty unpleasant. That being said, I didn’t wanna highlight this quick bit at the very end.
For anyone reading this who has not seen the movie Reanimator and doesn’t know- the scene in the question I’m referring to is a pretty infamous depiction of both sexual violence and body horror, in which the main female character is restrained to a operating table and assaulted by a sentient severed head. It’s very… iconic? And I think that a big factor in that is (beyond the obvious imagery) it only ever goes so far. Obviously because he’s a severed head, there’s only so much the character can do to her. But also, the scene gets interrupted right before things get too graphic. In the red letter media Re:View of this film, I think they put it really well when they said that you watch this part, feeling increasingly uncomfortable and freaked out, and then it cuts right at the point where it would become too much.
In this novelization, however, that doesn’t happen. The scene does not get interrupted just before things can get a little too graphic. It fully continues. Thankfully, we don’t see much of that, but still! I feel like it’s a unpleasantly good example of how much more mean spirited this book is that the movie.
Gross!
#re-alr#live read#it also helps with the viscerally disgusting tension of the scene that it’s interrupted by Herbert walking in and being like#‘using your near-infinite powers of undeath to have sex?? with a Woman?? im disappointed’#and it’s so ridiculous and kind of mean#And like#yes. Herbert is trying to distract Hill. he is not so hateful or sexist that he’s like. Completely unfazed by Meg’s assault#but there’s still a part of you as an audience member that’s like#Laughing both at the release of tension and at Herbert’s well established cartoon misogyny#tw rap3#tw sa

Top 10 Animated Horror Movies
Horror movies have a long history of being adapted into cartoons, often with great success. Here are 10 iconic horror movies that could make great cartoons:
Killer Klowns from Outer Space: This 1988 cult classic about alien clowns invading Earth could be reimagined as a cartoon with a focus on self-aware comedy and absurdity. Each episode could feature the clowns trying to invade Earth while trying to have the last laugh in an all-out alien invasion.
Gremlins: The 1984 film about mischievous creatures created from a mysterious pet could be adapted into a cartoon series, exploring the adventures of Gizmo and his friends as they navigate the world of these chaotic creatures[2].
The Addams Family: The beloved 1991 film about a quirky and macabre family could be reimagined as a cartoon, blending dark humor and whimsy to create an entertaining and family-friendly show.
The Mummy: The 1999 film about an ancient Egyptian priest brought back to life could be adapted into a cartoon series, focusing on pulp-inspired adventures and action-packed battles.
Scooby-Doo: The 2002 film about a group of teenagers solving mysteries with the help of a talking dog could be reimagined as a cartoon series, blending comedy and suspense to create an entertaining show for kids.
The Witches: The 1990 film about a young boy who accidentally stumbles upon a convention of witches could be adapted into a cartoon series, exploring the magical world of witches and the boy's adventures with them.
The Spiderwick Chronicles: The 2008 film about a family discovering a magical world of fairies and other creatures could be reimagined as a cartoon series, focusing on the adventures of the family as they navigate this new world.
The Dark Crystal: The 1982 film about a world of magical creatures locked in eternal struggle could be adapted into a cartoon series, exploring the fantastical world and the battles between the different factions.
Frankenweenie: The 2012 film about a boy who brings his beloved dog back to life could be reimagined as a cartoon series, focusing on the boy's adventures with his reanimated dog and the consequences of playing with forces beyond his control.
The Little Shop of Horrors: The 1986 film about a plant that feeds on human blood could be adapted into a cartoon series, blending dark humor and musical elements to create an entertaining and quirky show.
These horror movies have the potential to be reimagined as cartoons, offering a unique blend of humor, adventure, and suspense that could appeal to a wide range of audiences.

The Eclipse Dungeon (Part IV)
This will likely be the last of these posts, it took me a little time to create a map of this area. I also had to settle on monster levels for this area as well as determine what monsters to use. To start I'm going to talk about some narrative stuff to do with this dungeon. Advise on healing, communicate expectations for this part as it is meant to be a boss battle. Again, I'm not very experienced in all this and while I'm looking forward to someday using this I've not had a chance to yet. So please, any feedback would be lovely!
-Art from Black Miners Museum.
The Calm Before The Storm
After completing all three puzzles, and defeating the animated armour sets, your party will find the third barrier is gone. Specific details of its appearance or design should be up to the game master running this adventure. However, I'd advise describing it as a large set of doors which were once blocked and now are free to open. They have not opened by themselves. Keeping these closed allows players a moment to think tactically, perhaps take a Quick Heal depending on their current HP and other factors. Before they open this door, be sure to describe how a new message has appeared above it. Characters who translated the script above the entrance to the first maze have advantage on this. Otherwise translation requires an Intelligence/Wisdom check, adding any applicable backgrounds, with a normal (11+) level of challenge. Skills which would be sensible are any relating to ancient history, languages, cultures, myths, etc. Again, those of human and elf lineage (or those with the linguist feat) only require a 6+ to succeed. If translated the message reads: "Long ago the moon clung to the sun and plunged a kingdom into darkness". A failure only grants them any words shared from the previous translation (if they succeeded on that check).
-Art taken from Dungeon Solvers.
This is also a good time to check in with your players, some like touch upon their one unique thing and how it relates to their circumstances. A young woman prophesised to defeat the Lich might be seeking arcane secrets to aid in her task, information on her foe from lost civilisations. An older man seeking glory might recall how his childhood friends all left to make their fortune and consider he may just catch up to them yet. A person of indeterminant age might worry about the village relying upon them for one mysterious reason or another and find the resolve to grow stronger. At this point ask each to roll for their Icon relationships. Successes may allow the GM to give pieces of mechanical advice sprinkled through role play of recalled conversations. It's relatively easy to offer a mechanical benefit otherwise. Such as +1 to attacks against Mooks. Or advantage on Saves, or attempts to Disengage. However, at this point, your players should be ready to step through that door.
The Eclipse Queen
Players will find themselves in a long hallway, wider than those of the mazes or labyrinth. As they move down it, on the walls are images of a fierce battle. On one wall The Eclipse King, in his reanimated glory, stands ready to face legions. The other wall depicts The Eclipse Queen, as she puppets the armour of those sent to defeat her. This stretches on for a two minute walk, the walls only depicting further soldiers, archers, mages. Two nations worth of combatants combined into a singular force to defeat them. The last third, however, is different. Rain pours down from the ceiling above (all in the rain are Vulnerable 1 to Cold and Lightning damage and have Resistance 4 to Fire damage). One path, which grows ever narrower is to the left. Another, guarded by various pieces on animated armour is to the right. Beyond these she guards a gilded door, The Eclipse Queen, ready to do battle once more.
So starting with the rough distances of this space. Generally from the start of the battle map they could not reach the second purple heart with a move action. The first is considered close and can be engaged with easily. The second is nearby and could be reached with a move action. The rest follow this logic, being far away or beyond this. Thankfully there are two solutions to this in the form of two paths towards The Eclipse Queen.
The path on the left requires you to move single file. Attempting to move ahead of your allies pushes them aside into the water. A move action can take you to the end of one section, given that characters have to move carefully. The next section requires a Dexterity check, adding applicable skills, to walk across and requires a 7+ to succeed. The section after that requires the same check with a 14+ now needed to be successful. However, from the end of the second section The Eclipse Queen is considered far away (within range of spellcasting). Additionally, the animated suits of armour cannot balance on these narrow walkways. Falling into the water causes you to become waterlogged and gain Vulnerable 3 to Lightning or Cold damage, until the end of the battle. However they also gain Resistance 8 to Fire damage. After falling, a character can use their move action on their next turn to climb back on but until then they are hampered. Out of combat characters can navigate these sections easily, taking their time to cross them at their leisure.
The right is vastly more simple, as players can pass by one another without pushing each other into water. They simply have to fight the mooks which block their path. These are more animated suits of armour, which will begin to approach players they can reach. Unlike previous animated armour these are Mooks with a Monster Level 1. Use the table below for their stats. I'd also advise giving them immunities to various conditions as discussed previously, however is the mechanics of these can be reasonably explained there's little need. Additionally, these are Vulnerable 2 to Thunder damage. In terms of appearance, they are a blend of silver plate and brass mail. If descriptions of such armour are included in the description of the first maze they should be described as similar if blood stained and foul smelling. Beyond that you should be good to go for these!
-Image from 13th Age SRD webpage.
Beyond these smaller enemies is The Eclipse Queen. She wears a pale silk dress which clings to her slender body in the rain, over this is silver plate armour. When approached she will say in archaic elvish: "We will not be parted" before attacking. She uses the same stats as a Drow Spider-Mage. However it would be accurate and appropriate to rename her to a Drow Puppet Mage. Several abilities in the stats below will be renamed or altered to help her feel unique. If an alteration is not mentioned or described, assume it follows the stats below. It is important to offer a reminder that all creatures in this area have the vulnerabilities and resistance from the rain in this room.
-Image from the 13th Age SRD webpage.
These are all the things which must be changed:
In order the changes for marked out sections are as follows:
Puppet-Mage
Eclipse Fire
Holy Damage
Eclipse Damage
Crashing Wave
On a hit targets take 5 damage and are pushed 5 feet in a direction of your choice. If used when the escalation die is odd this is once per battle, if used on an even escalation then it's at will.
Puppet-Mage
Puppet-Mage
Puppet Master: Any time an enemy targets the puppet-mage with a melee attack a nearby, unengaged, puppet can move and attack the enemy as a free action.
(Additionally) The Puppet-Mage should have access to Ray of Frost as a 1st Level Spell.
(Additionally) If the Puppet-Mage has no puppets as a free action once per battle she can make 1d4+1 puppets.
(Additionally) As a Drow, The Eclipse Queen has "Take Advantage of Weakness" to deal the level of an enemy in damage whenever they roll a save.
Animated suits of armour count as her puppets.
-Art by Nikki Dawes, taken from The Critical Role Fandom Wiki.
Hopefully, everyone survives this battle. Those who do will naturally gather around the body of their enemy. Only to find their resolve broken as a door behind her opens.
I guess I'm doing a part V guys. Hopefully that will be the last one!

Well…
A few ages passed in uncertainty as to what needed to be waited for to cash in the machine's soul. There were no patents that needed expiring, since it never had one. The conventional method of waiting for the subject to cease all functions also didn't seem to be an option at first. Yes, it might've been broken, ceased all functions, or might've been irreparable for an aeon or two, but always either a human or another of its kind would come and fix it to functioning order.
Underneath This read more: A fan-made continuation of this story about what would happen after that time!
Eventually, after another small eternity, the academy here in hell had whittled down what it would mean for the 'soul collection' part of the contract to go into effect. At first it seemed like it would never happen due to 'Bob' having been reproduced and replicated after word of its exploits got out, but it was ruled that these divergent iterations of the automaton were more akin to offspring than another Bob. Nearly every single one with minor deviations, like different optical sensors, more powerful motor functions, a more lightweight chassis. Too many, frankly.
The original Bob who made the pact (… well, what was left of it,) was still active. After it made its fair share of voyages it was deemed too important to risk losing to those humans, being such an icon of the field and (what historians are still debating on is) the origin of the most effective method of human reanimation until then. So, they restationed Bob to the Museum of Aerospace and Spacefaring History, where it meticulously cleaned the halls and exhibits for quite some time, sometimes still seeing acquaintances and offspring from its original crew.
Around this time, his unholiness grew impatient and started coaxing humans into destroying Bob. Hey, if there's no connection to be found between the assailant and the underworld, it's fair game! It took a while, but eventually they were successful, and that blessed machine was broken beyond repair. Yes, there might've been a cover-up with a replica bob using its most recent back-up, but the lawyers already ruled that the first death counts as the true death during the McCartney trials.
Lucifer smiled. The entire underworld was ready for the best torture sessions they've seen… well, since forever! Once they had reconstructed it and installed the data from the storage device from oh-so long ago, Bob started up, and looked all around. It was hung up by means of belts and rope, and surrounded by various torture devices like buckets of dirty saltwater, powerful magnets, a generator with connectors to who knows what ports on the other end and many more. Before the fun could start his fiendishness asked one last question to it:
"Well, was it worth it, letting us wait so long just to still end up here?" The mechanism communicated like it had done all that time ago. Displaying information and data about the spaceship where it thought it was, and its current location, but then abruptly asking what the current date and time was. This was unusual behaviour for a freshly arrived soul, since they are supposed to carry their memories, even those of their death over into Hell. But this was also the first time an automaton had arrived here.
"Well, it's been so long since then that the civilisation that made you started labelling time differently, but I’d say it's been far too long." Bob started showing documents, articles, images. All that seemed to question why the Devil would wait so long for it. He furrowed his brow: "To keep this deal going I’d have to keep my end of the deal. I can't do that if you're still alive. Or, was that too advanced for your logic to parse?" Bob's screen displayed information that confused and worried Satan slightly. It showed theorems, images, full datasets, legal documents. All about copying, duplication, and most naming a ship owned by a human named 'Theseus'.
"And what in His name is meant by all of this?" Then, Bob's screen printed the following text: "The original Bob who sold it's 'Soul' stopped existing the next logic step after it made said deal. You could've done this at any time."
There were reports that right after that moment, hell's fury could be felt by the damned in purgatory.
So that, class, is why Bob's clause is included in every single contract you find today. Next class we'll be covering the now infamous air-bud rule, so make sure you understand the subject matter of today fully before then. Class dismissed!
the first sentient robot to realize deceased humans and animals can’t be repaired or backed up on a server is gonna be so devastated

I’m reading a book that explores Medieval hagiographies, or writings about Saints, through a trans lens, and I love the intro’s definition of hagiography that includes modern trans memoirs (paragraph breaks added for accessibility):
“Not only saints are holy. Beyond its role in institutional canonization, hagiography is the broader practice of memorializing, and reanimating, spiritually significant lives. Audiences turn to these lost lives, seeking the emotional and haptic traces of existences that illuminate their own experiences.
Hagiographies are narratives of becoming, possibility, and immanence. They are not how-to manuals for becoming a saint, examples for the reader to rigidly emulate, but guides to recognizing and honouring the sanctity within oneself, offering moments of communion. The isolated trans and/or genderqueer reader finds that they are no longer alone; communities of readers assemble around saints, though separated by space and time.
Modern trans memoirs function as autohagiography: these records of exceptional lives affirm the presence of trans individuals, serving as beacons whose light reveals the possibilities suppressed by normative culture. From members of the trans community lost to violence or suicide, to iconic leaders and activists such as Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson, modern-day trans saints abound.
Once again, their hagiographies are not instruction manuals, but texts that offer companionship as readers unravel what it means to live authentically, as themselves. Transness is not merely compatible with holiness; transness itself is holy. Trans sanctity, as a mode of radical authenticity, creates a spiritual kinship that is not necessarily religious. For example, [Leslie] Feinberg, with whose words we began this Introduction, was a secular Jewish thinker. Similarly, the study of medieval hagiography, with its intrinsically Catholic worldview, owes much to the contributions of non-Christians…”
