Sophia: You and Kate are having so much fun together. I can tell you were so amused watching the boys do karaoke.
Joy: That was hysterical.
Sophia: It's so funny them dancing. I died! I like that they had them doing some of the same choreography. I just couldn't stop laughing. They're boys forever.
Joy: James commits so hard.
Hilarie: Oh my god! Who was that guy on stage? Listen, we spent years, we spent the better part of our twenties singing karaoke in Wilmington and you know who never came? James Lafferty. Never! And he's all in this scene... hilarious! The dance moves? Who is that guy?
Sophia: It was so good.
Joy: He's never met a challenge, like a reasonable challenge that he's said no to. I think they just knew that they could write him anything and he would do it.
Sophia: And what I also really liked is you get to see-- we see James and Stephen's friendship so clearly in this episode and the way they egg each other on and you're like, yeah of course they went on and made "Everyone Is Doing Great," of course they're business partners. Look at them! They in this episode gave me a lot of like Brooke and Peyton and their lifelong thing energy. And that's a big thing to create between two characters who are newer friends on screen and it's sweet.
Hilarie: i was just gonna say, the bromance in this episode, I really responded to. I liked seeing the little boys and the big boys. We've had conversations about toxic masculinity. I think at a certain point little boys are allowed to have close friendships and it's adorable and we applaud it and they share their feelings with each other and it's so special and then at some point they're made to feel weird about that. And so they bottle stuff up and they don't do silly shit together anymore. And so seeing these boys play together was so sweet and I like that our show did that. I thought that Chad did a good job directing that. I like that he directed just like silly boy time. Silly boy time is my favorite kind of boy time.

🌲- What is this oc's greatest strength and weakness?, 🌵- How does this oc feel about physical affection?, 🌈- What does this oc like and dislike about themselves?, for both kate and bethany!
🌲- What is this oc's greatest strength and weakness?
Kate: Her quick wit and intelligence. She’s a natural diplomat, she’s good at getting a read on both situations and people, and is also a skilled negotiator. And then going off of her SPECIAL, physical strength lmao. Her companions are the ones who are always hauling her stuff around, and if she ever tried to throw a punch she’d probably just hurt herself instead.
Bethany: Her survival skills, or just. Knowledge of nature/the outdoors. She spent her youth tagging along after old longfellow, and she knows how to keep herself (and others) safe on the island. Same goes for when she’s at sea, safety’s the top priority on her boat. For weakness, probably her single-mindedness. She’s very difficult to persuade, and while that does have its advantages, it’s caused some real problems for her. Things almost turned violent between her and Kate before she saw the evidence of DiMA’s crimes. She’ll go out of her way to help people, but she doesn’t know how to back off when asked to mind her own business. Stuff like that.
🌵- How does this oc feel about physical affection?
Kate: That one’s complicated haha, she’s naturally a physically affectionate person, but she really didn’t grow up with a lot of it. Nora was. Basically the equivalent of a wire mother, and her grandma Shirley, who she lived with when her dad was deployed, was a hard-working no-nonsense sort who showed love through like. picking up an extra shift when Kate needed new shoes, canceling her first date in fifteen years because Kate wanted to go to a movie. The sort of thing Kate never really noticed as a kid, but came to appreciate as she got older. In adulthood, her ex tended to be annoyed by it, and then there was her whole post-partum haze when she was scared to even hold Shaun. So she never felt like it was. Allowed? But in the present, between the pets and the kids climbing all over her, it’s safe to say she’s gotten past that lmao.
Bethany: Oh absolutely, she’s a hugger, but on the other hand, part of her idea of physical affection is like. putting someone in a headlock lmao. She also spends a lot of time roughhousing with Gracie, although that goes back to safety reasons. Getting her to burn off her energy before she’s stuck on a boat for hours at sea. It’s better that the giant mutant hound spends the voyage napping haha.
🌈- What does this oc like and dislike about themselves?
Kate: Starting with what she doesn’t like, her ruthless streak, and her capacity for violence. She always tries for a peaceful solution, but that doesn’t always work. Raiders, blowing up the Institute, even Kellogg—it doesn’t sit well with her. She carries a lot of guilt over it. There’s also the fact that these moments are when she sees her mother the most in herself, which segues nicely into what she does like–that she’s a good parent. She’s worked super hard to be patient and understanding with her kids, and she’s really proud of the relationships she has with them.
Bethany: Her optimism. She appreciates the little things and can always find the humor in a situation, which is absolutely essential for life on the island–it’d get pretty bleak otherwise. For dislike, the fact that she can’t help but see the good in people :’) She sees herself as naive and overly trusting, and is absolutely convinced she’s a poor judge of character, especially after the dima thing.

I know a lot of these doubled up, but they seemed to fit pretty well from my perspective at least. It’s close enough to Halloween that this seems to be fitting for the general theme in it.

what do you think about Abbie Emmons? do you think she gives good advice? I'm wanting to become a writer and I don't want to listen to someone if they are giving wrong advice haha-
AuthorTubes to Watch
As with all writing advice, "good" is in the eye of the beholder. I haven't watched all of Abbie's videos, but I've enjoyed what I've seen and find her advice to be pretty solid. I think she does a great job of distilling things down so they're easy to understand, and I appreciate that she tackles things from a more technical/scientific perspective.
I do think it's a good idea to branch out, however, and not just take one person's writing advice. By getting different perspectives on the same thing, you can get a feel for what advice does/doesn't work for you, what you agree with and what you don't, etc. Other "Author Tubers" I think are worth checking out:
The Creative Penn Merphy Napier (Dear Author) Ellen Brock Alexa Donne Lindsay Puckett Shaelin Writes Alyssa Matesic Liselle Sambury Natalia Leigh Hannah Lee Kidder Jenna Moreci Heart Breathings Terrible Writing Advice Bethany Atazadeh Jane Kalmes Lynn D. Jung Kate Cavanaugh Writes Kristen Martin Mandi Lynn iWriterly
Again... it's all about trying some different channels and seeing whose advice works for you. ♥

I’ve been writing seriously for over 30 years and love to share what I’ve learned. Have a writing question? My inbox is always open!
