A Complete Guide To Explore The Best Bourbon Whiskey In India
Tumblr media
India is home to some of the best and most flavorful bourbon whiskeys in the world. Look no further for those looking to explore what India offers in this spirit! This guide will provide a comprehensive overview of the best bourbon whiskey in India, and helpful tips on getting the most out of your whiskey-tasting experience.
Overview Of Bourbon Whiskey
Bourbon whiskey has a mash bill of around 51 percent corn. Bourbon cannot have any additional colors or flavors and must be aged in fresh, charred oak barrels. The name comes from the French Bourbon dynasty, named after the city of Bourbon, France. Bourbon has a long history in the United States and was first produced in the 18th century. Since then, it has become an essential part of American culture and heritage. Today, bourbon is enjoyed by people worldwide and is one of the most popular types of whiskey.
Many brands of bourbon whiskey are available in India, such as Jim Beam, Jack Daniel's, and Maker's Mark. If you want to try some of the best bourbon whiskey in India, check out the guide below.
The Difference Between Scotch And Bourbon
When it comes to the best whisky for party, there are two distinct types: Scotch and bourbon. Both are delicious, but they also have some key differences. Here's a quick guide to help you understand the difference between scotch and bourbon whiskey. Scotch is made in Scotland, while bourbon is made in the United States. The main difference between the two lies in the ingredients and production process.
Scotch is made with malted barley, while bourbon is made with corn. The other key difference is that Scotch must be aged in oak barrels for at least three years, while bourbon only needs to be aged for two years. Bourbon has a sweeter taste than Scotch, thanks to the corn used in its production. On the other hand, Scotch has a more complex flavor profile due to the malted barley and longer aging process.
So, which one should you choose? It all comes down to personal preference. Bourbon is the way to go if you're looking for a smooth drink with a sweet flavor. Scotch is your best bet if you want something with a bit more depth and complexity.
How To Choose The Best Bourbon Whiskey In India?
Bourbon whiskey comes from corn. It is typically aged for two years or more in new, oak charred-barrels. Bourbon has a distinctively sweet, smoky flavor and is often used in cocktails. When choosing the best whisky for party, it is crucial to consider the following factors:
The type of bourbon: There are four types of bourbon whiskey, each with a distinct flavor profile. These include Kentucky straight bourbon, Tennessee whiskey, blended bourbon, and rye bourbon.
The age of the bourbon: The longer it is aged, the more complex its flavor will be. Bourbons that are aged for at least four years are typically considered to be the best quality.
The proof of the bourbon: The higher the proof, the higher the alcohol content and the more intense the flavor. Bourbons with 50% or higher proof are typically considered the best quality.
The price: Bourbon whiskey can vary depending on age, proof, and type. Generally speaking, higher quality bourbons will cost more money.

Whisky Review Time --- Paul John Select Cask Indian Single Malt
India is not known as a whisky producing country. Scotland, sure, Kentucky, definitely, but India hasn't exactly earned a reputation for making great whisky which is unfortunate, because I will say up front this is a great whisky. India actually has quite a long history of whisky making going back to the 19th century when India was a British colony. The Scots brought whisky to India, setting distilleries all over the country to supply British soldiers and merchants with their daily drink. The Paul John distillery is located in Goa which is on the west coast of southern India.
Tumblr media
John Distilleries is a very new business relatively speaking, first making blended whiskys upon opening in 1992 and not making a single malt until 2008.
Paul John Single Malt Select Cask is made with a mash bill of malted barely, aged in ex bourbon barrels for 7 years, and has an alcohol content of 55.2%. Being a select cask means that it is specially bottled from what the master distiller believes to be the best casks after sampling, which are then blended.
When I bought a bottle of this it had a retail price of around $100 but it was on clearance sale for $40. This made me wonder if I made a mistake as I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my father. Fortunately this turned out to be a good purchase because this whisky is fantastic! Upon nosing I get very delightful aromas of fresh fruits such as apples and pears with some dried fruits like raisins and prunes. It is very sweet smelling, and like it's smell it is also very sweet tasting. Upon tasting again I get notes of fresh apples and pears, sherry, honey, some oak, maybe a little cinnamon, and a good amount of bready flavor from the malted barley. The flavors of it are very rich, very bold, and very complex which is something that I like when it comes to whisky or whiskey. All around it's flavor profile is very delightful. It finishes with a nice peppery burn that warms the mouth all the way to the stomach. That would be the 55.2 % alcohol, which is a bit higher than most whiskies. Regardless the burn is not overwhelming but very pleasant and mellow, which is a sign of a good whiskey. I know in other reviews I complained that a whiskey was too boozy, but in the case of bad whiskies the alcohol overwhelms any flavors, making it just burny cheap alcoholic nastiness. With this whisky the higher proof complements and enhances the flavors. I rate it 4.9 out of 5. My only complaint is that it is hard to find, and if I do find it, I'm probably not going to be able to buy it for $40 again.

Friendship is really the finest balm
Tumblr media
ā€œHere,ā€ Audrey said, holding out a cup of tea in one hand and an old-fashioned hot water bottle wrapped in a bit of worn toweling. Jess and Dash were dozing in front of the fire and Helen had set down the clumsy bit of knitting that was supposed to be a scarf for Tristan, though the last thing theyā€™d heard was there was a chance he would be sent to India. Siegfried had just left after a second urgent call had come through an hour after James had headed out into the miserably wet night, a kiss dropped on the crown of her head along with a quick squeeze to her shoulder.
ā€œWhat? I donā€™t, Iā€™m fineā€”ā€
ā€œWeā€™ve no need to pretend. I saw you wincing all through dinner,ā€ Audrey said. ā€œI can fetch you some aspirin if you think thatā€™ll help. It does, for some.ā€
ā€œNot me, Iā€™m afraid,ā€ Helen said, tucking the hot water bottle in her lap before taking a swallow of the tea and then choking a bit. ā€œYouā€™ve put whisky in it.ā€
ā€œThe good stuff,ā€ Audrey smiled. ā€œSiegfried wonā€™t miss it, not a tot into a teacup, and you would.ā€
ā€œYouā€™re very kind,ā€ Helen said, sipping more slowly and letting it warm her. Her back still ached dreadfully but the heat of the drink and the hot water bottle had dulled some of the sharpest cramps and she closed her eyes for a moment of relative relief.
ā€œYouā€™ve always suffered with it?ā€ Audrey asked.
ā€œSome times itā€™s not so hard,ā€ Helen said. ā€œBut mostly it is. The stock donā€™t care, though, do they, if youā€™re feeling poorly. Theyā€™ve still got to be milked, the stalls mucked. Just have to get on with it.ā€
ā€œIf your mother had lived, sheā€™d have made sure you had something like this, maybe a biscuit as well,ā€ Audrey said. ā€œIā€™ve got fresh shortbread in the kitchen if that tempts you.ā€
ā€œNo, thank you. The tea is lovely, just what I wanted,ā€ Helen said. ā€œAnd the hot water bottle.ā€
ā€œDoes James know?ā€ Audrey said.
ā€œItā€™s not something I can keep a secret,ā€ Helen said. ā€œNot from James, anyway.ā€ Sheā€™d blushed the first time she had to tell him but he hadnā€™t seen it her cheeks turn red, lying beside her in the blanching moonlight. Heā€™d reached for her in the bed and sheā€™d had to tell him no, had to tell him why so he wouldnā€™t feel she didnā€™t want him; he was still sensitive to any hint of rejection, though their honeymoon had done a fair bit to build his confidence. Perhaps a cuddle, heā€™d offered, pulling her close to him, resting his hands against her belly and sheā€™d almost laughed at the sudden way it recalled how heā€™d touch an ailing beast, very gentle but sure, the comfort in the certainty as much as the gentleness. In the morning, sheā€™d been brisk and practical, so that heā€™d known not to be too doting, and that was how sheā€™d gone on with it, allowing him to be fond and solicitous only within the confines of the bedsit, accepting what he offered and not asking for anything, doing her best to be the Helen heā€™d fallen in love with, that spirited, self-reliant girl he marveled at. If the war hadnā€™t happened, maybe she would have chanced it, letting him see her distress, her suffering something for him to manage, but the times didnā€™t allow it.
ā€œThatā€™s good. Heā€™s one I might think a bit shy when it comes to womanly complaints and there are days I think you might catch cold on the pedestal heā€™d put you on.ā€
ā€œThereā€™s no pedestal left. Not after a honeymoon and the bedsit and that fish pie I made for dinner at the farm,ā€ Helen said. Sheā€™d wondered herself, before they wed, if he would be as earnest and diffident about her as heā€™d been when they courted, but after a few short weeks of close quarters, his undeniable appetite for her, and the ignominy of the terrible mealā€™s aftermath had put paid to any concerns of that nature.
ā€œBut I can tell thereā€™s something else troubling you,ā€ Audrey said. In her way, Helen found her to be the best diagnostician of them all.
ā€œIā€™m all mixed up,ā€ Helen said. ā€œWith what I want, what Iā€™ve got. What I ought to wait for. What wonā€™t wait.ā€
ā€œYou were hoping then?ā€ Audrey asked. Helen took a fortifying slug of the whisky-tea. The more she drank, the more apparent it was that Audrey had misrepresented the proportions sheā€™d used.
ā€œI donā€™t know. A little, but also I donā€™t want that now, I donā€™t think truly, but the world is so uncertain, what if this is my only chance, what if James is called away like Tristan? What if he doesnā€™tā€”ā€ she broke off, unwilling to say the words aloud, the ones that would be unbearable to have heard. She knew Audrey wouldnā€™t argue that James and Tristan would both be fine. ā€œI donā€™t know what would be worse, being left all alone or being left alone with a baby whoā€™d never know their fatherā€¦ā€
ā€œItā€™s as well itā€™s not up to you, I suppose,ā€ Audrey said, before the pause could last too long. ā€œIt wonā€™t be up to you to decide and youā€™d never be alone, youā€™d have us here and your father and Jenny, Jamesā€™s parents in Glasgow. Youā€™d have a layette all in tartan and thistles before you could say Jack.ā€
ā€œYou wouldnā€™t be bothered if there were a baby crying at all hours?ā€ Helen said.
ā€œThey donā€™t all have colic like your Jenny did,ā€ Audrey said. ā€œAnd no, I wouldnā€™t be bothered. Iā€™ve a secret to tell you, Helen. Mr. Farnon loves babies. Iā€™ve never seen one that wouldnā€™t stop fussing once he picked it up and to hear the man, speaking the silliest nonsense to a little one as serious as the magistrateā€”you neednā€™t worry that a baby would lack for anything.ā€
ā€œIt maynā€™t happen,ā€ Helen said. How could a few simple words be both a reassurance and a threat? She shrugged. It was probably the liquor addling her sensible nature; she usually didnā€™t even finish an ale at Droverā€™s.
ā€œYouā€™re right, of course,ā€ Audrey said and then grinned, her dark eyes sly, knowing. ā€œItā€™s not for lack of trying, Iā€™ll give you that. I did tell Mr. Farnon that brass bed was a mistake, I said you ought to have something sturdy, something that could manage a bit of bounceā€”ā€
ā€œAudrey!ā€ Helen felt her face turn scarlet and wished the teacup held another finger or two of whisky. She wished for the whisky bottle, for the telephone to ring, for James to come into the room and need to be asked about the horse heā€™d been called out for, offered something hot to drink.
ā€œAh, donā€™t fret. Itā€™s good, itā€™s a glad thing to be around two people who are each otherā€™s heartā€™s desire and you didnā€™t see James as I did when you were engaged to Hugh. He was breaking his heart over you and heā€™d have taken it to his grave. Iā€™m happy the only thing broken is a second-hand bed,ā€ Audrey said. Helen looked down at her lap, her hands folded together. The ache in her belly had lessened, dull now instead of clawing.
ā€œThat is all thatā€™s broken, isnā€™t it?ā€ Audrey asked.
Helen thought of a midnight a fortnight past, James murmuring at her ear a mix of Scots Gaelic and fragments of Robbie Burns, So fair art thou, my bonnie lass bonnie lass, the way sheā€™d clung to him, shameless, knowing she was beloved, letting her dressing gown slip off her and his reaction, startled, ravening, the lamp that had tottered when they bumped against it, the crack in the base theyā€™d turned to face the wall the next morning.
ā€œNear enough,ā€ Helen said.
ā€œIf anything happened to that hand-painted lamp, I wouldnā€™t speak of it,ā€ Audrey warned, then winked. ā€œIt was a gift from a grateful patient, but itā€™s always been the ugliest thing in Skeldale and I was that glad to hide it away in the bedsit. Mr. Farnon hasnā€™t noticed its absence and Iā€™d rather it stay that way.ā€

Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser in Outlander, has opened up about possibly turning his hand to Bollywood. Are you sure the character's form will have a special bond?šŸ˜
SH will learn to sing and dance to perform with PeeCee (preciouspriyanka) in a Hindi film. Although Indian actors have lip-syncing singers for that. Dancing is not Sam's best skill. I don't think PeeCee has seen SH dance before.
Tumblr media
With his feet flat, he struggles to get a bit of a rhythm šŸ˜‚ but Pee Cee could carry out a Hindi movie with her husband Nick Jonas, he was a supporting actor in Love Again, and they would convince better as a couple.
Tumblr media
Are you sure you want to make a Bollywood film in Hindi to act or to sell your booze šŸ„ƒ at the end, whisky has been the favourite spirit of India. Whisky salesmanā€™s role would be most successfulšŸ¤«
I knew something would go through SH's mind the moment Richard Madden landed in India to promote 'Citadel' with Priyanka Chopra. Sam copied Richard's style in his promo. Richard was asked if he would be interested in doing a Bollywood film, expressing his interest; it would be interesting to see him show off his skills on the big screen in India, after all, Bollywood makes more films than Hollywood.
However, SH's situation is quite different. The ulterior motive of Priyanka's friendship is based on interest. India is the largest consumer of Scotch whiskyšŸ„ƒ in the world. They use one another and have become friends. SHā€™s friendship relationships are based on interest or profit. The popular adage saysā€¦ā€ There ain't no such thing as a free lunch".
I canā€™t imagine Priyanka promoting Sam's Whisky šŸ„ƒ in India. She has to take care of her husband's involvement (Villa One Tequila), But Sam thinks being associated with her name helps. On the other hand, SONA became SH's favourite restaurant in New York. Why? Because He likes to drink Indian spicy margaritas? šŸ˜œ

Guilt & Revenge: Nowhere Else To Go
Whumptober, Day 17: Nowhere Else To Go
Guilt & Revenge Masterlist
Ooooh more background story? Yes pls. Poor Amber, the guy can barely catch a break. This is the beginning of him being officially unofficially adopted by his found family! Hope you enjoy, and lmk if you wanna be added to the taglist!
TWs: minor whump, underage drinking, child neglect, forgotten birthday, substance abuse, sobbing, hangover, implied bad childhood / childhood trauma, and mentions of running away, court-ordered rehab, implied addicted mother, puking due to hangover, implied divorced/seperated parents, and calling a parental figure "sir"
Dom had been lost in thought, staring at the sky, when he suddenly snapped back into a drunken reality. The sky was dark, and there were stars. Shit, what time was it? Fumbling for his phone, he poured whisky all over himself, having forgotten he was holding the open bottle. Shit, shit shitā€¦Ā
It was his fourteenth birthday. His father hadnā€™t remembered, and Dom wasnā€™t even surprised. The first two, three months after his father got custody of him again had been nice. Neither of them brought up the fact that last time, Dom had run away. Or that it had taken four years for his father to start caring enough again to come find him. By now, he was back to ignoring Dom, although Dom still lived with him. Having no authority figures pay attention to him suited him much better now as a teenager than it did as a child, and for the most part, Dom didnā€™t mind. He knew it would happen sooner or later.
That didnā€™t mean it didnā€™t hurt sometimes. He just didnā€™t wanna think about it. So there he was, on his forgotten birthday, in a secluded little spot heā€™d found that he called his, getting drunk.
Well. The getting drunk part was kinda over. He felt pleasantly and inconveniently numb, his thoughts a slurry. Precisely what heā€™d wanted, butā€¦ how would he get home? Even trying to stand up had him almost toppling over. He was dripping with spilt whisky, and his phone india- indac- indict- indishiated? Ind.. His phone said it was eighteen past one AM.Ā
Did he have anyone to call?Ā
His father wouldnā€™t come pick him up, not at this time of night. He might not even wake up from the sound of the phone ringing. Who else even was there? He had no one. He hadnā€™t seen his mom since they took her away for court-ordered rehab. Finally, his thoughts fell on his best friend. Noah-Elise. What would she even be able to do? She was only fourteen. Like he was now..
Before his drunk mind could catch up with him, heā€™d dialed her. It went over twice, and he contemplated hanging up, but just as he was about to, she picked up.Ā
ā€œDom? Itā€™s like one in the morning right now, whatā€™s going on?ā€
Her sleepy voice made his heart flutter a little. Trying to speak without slurring, he answered.
ā€œIā€™m uh.. Iā€™m sorry, I.. Iā€™m drunk and I need someone to pick me up. I donā€™t know how to get- get home. Iā€™m sorry, I donā€™t, didnā€™t have anyone else to call, Iā€¦ ā€œ
ā€œAre you okay?ā€, came her voice, much more alert than a second before.
A sound not unlike a sob escaped him. ā€œIā€™m, itā€™s, I donā€™t kn- Itā€™s my birthday? I justā€¦ Iā€™m sorry, I didnā€™t- didnā€™t think this through, I just wanted to- just need someone to pick me up, I.. Iā€™m sorry, itā€™s stupid, Iā€™ll just-ā€
ā€œDom donā€™t you dare hang up right now!ā€
He paused.
A second later, probably after confirming he was still on the line, she continued. ā€œIā€™ll come pick you up. Where are you? The rest can wait.ā€
ā€œUh, bridge, Iā€™m at the- at the bridge, with the uh.. tree-house-thingy.. thing.ā€
Somewhere, he was aware that was not a useful sentence, but it was all his drunk mind could come up with. ā€œOkay, hold on. Weā€™ll be right there.ā€
Dom could hear the comforting smile at the end of the sentence. If heā€™d been more sober, he might have wondered how she would get there and who she was bringing with her. As it was, he laid back down, and stared at the mostly-empty whisky bottle. Why the fuck not.
He chugged the rest of it.
Some indeterminable time later, someone shook Dom awake. He hadnā€™t been aware that heā€™d fallen asleep, and it was highly disorienting. ā€œWha..?ā€
ā€œDom. Dom, itā€™s me. Just me.ā€ Noah-Elise. Her presence instantly calmed him, and he wanted to sob. The alcohol in his system did little for his impulse control, and he dropped his head to her shoulder, slurring out a hello.
ā€œWhat on Earth made you think this was a good idea, Dom? Why would you get drunk like this, with no one to help you?ā€ She didnā€™t sound mad. She sounded like she was genuinely asking.
Dom looked over to the car that sheā€™d come in, with a man (presumably one of her fathers?) behind the wheel, and decided he didnā€™t fucking care. He couldnā€™tā€™ve stopped himself from starting to sob if heā€™d tried, so he didnā€™t. He just clung to this amazing girl that had changed so much of his life, of him, in such little time. Still, he felt the need to explain, and through the tears and hiccuping breaths, he tried to speak, to explain as she shushed him. Eventually, he got out ā€œIttā€™s my- my biir- birth, my birthdaayh.. ā€œ
ā€œOh Domā€¦ ā€œ, She wrapped her arms tighter around him, and he wished he could melt. ā€œYou could have told me.ā€
He didnā€™t know what to say to that, so he just nodded into her shoulder.
Eventually, once heā€™d calmed down a little, Noah-Elise helped him into the car, and he fell asleep again as they drove off, feeling nauseous and delirious. He didnā€™t even notice that they left his bag and the empty bottle.
He woke up the next morning in a bed with purple plaid duvets and green print pillows- in other words, very distinctively not his own. He didnā€™t have long to think about what that meant, cuz moments after waking up, he was hanging off the edge of the bed and puking his guts up onto stained hardwood that he didnā€™t recognise.
Dom got up, and suddenly became aware of the pounding headache he had. He groaned. When he left the room, he could recognise Noah-Eliseā€™s house. He didnā€™t remember much about calling her or getting here, he mostly remembered crying into her shoulder. Greatā€¦Ā
He went downstairs, to the kitchen for some water, and saw one of Noah-Eliseā€™s fathers, Dave, sitting at the kitchen table and eating a sandwich.Ā
Nervously, Dom reached for a glass and poured himself some water. He was waiting for the fall-out. A speech about the dangers of underage drinking, or being yelled at, or maybe even told not to hang around Noah-Elise anymore.
The longer nothing happened, the more nervous he felt, which was not going well with the hangover. ā€œOh, right um, where are the, cleaning supplies..? I kinda of uh.. I mightā€™ve puked on your floor. Sir.ā€ He didnā€™t know Noah-Eliseā€™s fathers enough to know whether they would want him to call them sir, so he tacked it on just in case. In retrospect it made the rest of the sentence awkward as fuck, and he regretted it. Oh wellā€¦
Dave looked at him for a minute. ā€œJy het op my vloere gekots?ā€
ā€œUhh, what?ā€ Very eloquent, Dom, great job.Ā
It seemed to make Dave laugh a bit though.
ā€œI guess you havenā€™t been hanging around Noah-Elise enough to pick up Afrikaans. You puked on my floors, boy?ā€
Dom nodded, cheeks growing red.Ā
Dave pushed his now-empty plate towards the middle of the table and leaned back into his chair. He paused for a minute, as if evaluating Dom. Then he spoke.Ā
ā€œThe cleaning supplies are in the cupboard under the sink, but you wonā€™t be needing them. The sofaā€™s over there.ā€
He.. wasnā€™t making Dom clean up after himself? He wasnā€™t mad at all? What? Where were the consequences?
Dom knew where the sofa was, and he went over to it, surprised to see a mug that had a sticker with his name on it on the coffee table. It had ginger tea. He didnā€™t question it, he just sipped it. It was warm. This wasā€¦ nice.
Maybe being fourteen would be better than thirteen (and twelve, and eleven, and ten, and nineā€¦ ) had been. Maybe it would be nice.
