Hey y'all~ how is everyone?? Normally I'd be working on the next chapter of 'Her Devoted Shield' today BUT....I'm doing something a lil different than my norm. First, the flagship fic of my Sacred Crown TWST Canon x OC series, 'Her Ivory Crown', was started and finished in 2021. On paper, not that long ago, but it feels like a lifetime ago. Plus three years in internet time is basically a hundred years lol. Why do I bring that up, you, (your name here), may be wondering? Welp I woke up today with the best AO3 notifications waiting for me in the email: the 'someone commented on yo fic, babyyy!' notifications. Ah, chef kiss. To my surprise - it was on Her Ivory Crown. So my first thought was "damn people still read this??" Surprise part 2: I checked the stats and Her Ivory Crown has 7100 hits???! DAYUM, people still read this!

So before I say anything else - to everyone who has read and still reads Her Ivory Crown (or any of my fics frankly), y'all are the REALEST thank you thank you thank you! ;u;

SO with that said-*rewinds back to the part about doing something different*- I've been thinking of my other girls who were introduced in Her Ivory Crown but haven't been in the spotlight as much yet. My readers know Reine, Elise, the Cerith Sisters, and their whole crew. Reine keeps making cameos cuz she's the OG waifu who is a literal queen, but her story is pretty much complete as is the Mercrew's. So while I'm also working out details for Petra's far more complicated story, I think my other girls should have their turn(s).

Initially, I had planned for each girl to get their own full-blown stories like Reine, Elise, and now Petra. However, with that said, while the Princess Trio's stories are more grand in scale, and sometimes way darker and adventurous, my other girls' stories would be more slice of life, down to earth. Which may not call for a 16+ chapter story like the others. Granted I could prove myself wrong on that but even so, they would still have their own short(er) stories about how they and their canon bois got together. I have ideas in mind, some that are very K-Dramaesqe and I do love me a good K-Drama lol. Which honestly, I've been craving the latter lately. I'm still gonna work on Petra's story cuz I like finishing what I start. But today, I'm changing gears and writing for one of my other girls. Who up first? ..... ...........

New Game/Characters I can write for!

I can now write for Yuito, Kasane, Hanabi, Kyoka, Tsugumi, Arashi, and Naomi from Scarlet Nexus!

For my folks arriving from the SN blog, sorry to keep you all waiting! And as for those who's played this game before on this blog, been meaning to add this one for a while, being honest with ya.

Scarlet Nexus was one of my favorite games to come out of 2021, so it's good to be writing for them again!

At the moment for WFM, I write for Suletta Mercury, and NOW:

Venat: Best Waifu **SPOILERS FOR 6.0** The question of who the best waifu is, is one that has set fans against each other since the dawn of fandom. The “great community by the way” of Square Enix’s critically acclaimed MMORPG (with an expanded free trial up to level 60 which includes the award winning Heavensward expansion) was no exception to this, with players all over the world unable to decide who is truly the best waifu of the game. That is, until the release of Endwalker in December of 2021 , which introduced the true best waifu Venat to our collective awareness. With the trifecta of perfect looks, perfect personality, and perfect backstory, I will prove that Venat is objectively The Best Waifu.

Preferences for appearance are extremely subjective, but it is certainly true that society as a whole has preferences for individual appearance. To simplify this point, I will proceed with the assumption that traits that are seen as attractive or desirable by a large proportion of people are "better" in terms of rating a waifu. Venat's notable physical features are her tall height and long proportions, her blue eyes, and her curly, voluminous white hair. First, multiple studies corroborate the idea that taller people are seen as more attractive, higher status, and higher prestige, benefits that Venat would receive at her towering height of 6'2". Next, according to a survey of 1000 people by 1800contacts, blue had the most votes for "Most desired eye color in a partner", almost doubling the number of votes for the next lowest color. In addition, 47.6% of respondents said that they would choose to have blue eyes if they could choose their eye color. Thus, blue is obviously the best eye color for a waifu to have. Finally, Venat's hair solidifies her position as having the perfect visuals. According to a survey commissioned by L'oreal in 2013 of 2000 U.S. adults, nearly 80% of women respondents would choose to have curly hair if they could, while only 16% of respondents chose straight, and 42% of male participants said that they saw curly haired women as sexy. Obviously, curly hair is seen as an attractive and desirable trait among the populace (though I am not sure why the results were reported in such a heteronormative way. Anecdotally, as a woman, I would also agree that curly haired women are sexy. No, this essay is not biased). Additionally, as an artist, long curly hair is the most fun to draw, and white hair is the most fun to render, therefore it is obviously the best combination. Thus, it is clear that Venat has the perfect combination of physical traits for a waifu.

As the popularity of hit Chainsaw Man’s female lead Makima shows, mommy-type character personalities are at an all-time high of popularity. Compared to many other mommy-type characters, Makima is notable for just how popular she is, in conjunction with the casual dominance and condescension with which she treats the other characters. The Ancients of FFXIV as a race are somewhat similar to Makima - they held a superiority complex over the rest of life on Etheirys. The Ancients saw it as their duty to guide, nurture, and also control the trajectory of other life forms on the planet. This is reflected in Hermes’s decision to end life without consent of the rest of the universe, as mentioned by Yoshi-P in a live letter lore discussion. Venat’s decision to sunder everyone without the consent of the majority is also a reflection of this sense of control and superiority, beyond even that of her Ancient peers, putting her on equal grounds with Makima as far as her level of dominance, and her position as a god watching over the world of Etheirys. Venat stands out above other waifus with these qualities when it comes to personality due to the love she exhibits for the player as well. When talking about the best waifu, it is important to consider that the character that turns you on the most is not necessarily the best wife material, much as it is with 3D love interests. Many characters, like Makima, who have the attractive dominating personality, do not possess other personality qualities that would make them good partners. However, Venat is, in addition to being assertive and dominant, adventurous, kind, ambitious, virtuous (dedicated her existence to helping others and fighting for individual autonomy and freedom), talented, and intelligent. In fact, one would be hard-pressed to name any negative personality traits that she might have. In the story, the Ancient's penchant for making decisions for others was seen as a major character flaw in all of the notable members of the race, but given that dominance is a desirable trait in waifus, it cannot be considered a flaw. Aside from this, she may be argued to be a "himbo", consistent with her role as past Azem in the FFXIV story, however, the juxtaposition of this with her traits of being a caretaker and mentor, create a "moe-gap", which is also a desirable trait in waifus. Therefore, she has the perfect personality for a waifu, and all the flaws she may have actually work in her favor (no, this essay is not biased).

Finally, due to the perfect backstory, Venat is truly the perfect waifu. One drawback of having a waifu is the fact that it is ultimately a type of parasocial relationship - no matter how much you love your waifu, usually, they exist within an enclosed story and can never love you back or even know who you are. However, the FFXIV story is written in a way to create a real relationship between Venat and the player's character, and the real love and care that Venat feels for the player character is clear as day in the writing of Endwalker. In addition, the setup for this backstory is the likes of which would more often be seen in something like a soulmate fanfiction. Having been close associates in a previous life, the player character and Venat meet again far in the future - and the truth comes to light that Venat had been watching over the player character for a long time, protecting them, so that you could fulfill a promise you made to each other. The fact that Venat dies at the end of 6.0 is only another reason why she is an even better waifu. As the classic appeal of Romeo and Juliet shows, star-crossed lovers are seen as a paragon of love.

Venat has the ideal looks, personality, and story, making her the perfect waifu. Thus, for all of these reasons, she is clearly The Best Waifu. With her introduction to the world in the release of Endwalker, we live her iconic words: "No more shall man have confusion over who is the best waifu. Henceforth he shall worship the Mother Crystal." And although she is gone in the canon story, our love for her and the infinite possibilities for headcanons, fanfiction, and fanart that she provides us will live on forever.

Can you rate all 2021 & 2022 silhouette Servants?

1) Morgan is my 3rd favorite Servant in the whole game and pretty sure she already has her own post explaining why. The Morgan-Arthuria-Fujimaru-Oberon quartet parallels are really the best part of Avalon le Fae.

2) Another member of my level 100 crew. Taigong was my most requested Servant at the time of his release and what we got of him is certainly in line with what I wanted. Goofy but capable. Thoughtful except when his fear of disappointing gets the better of him. Great taste in waifus. All in all, I can proudly say that's the tactician I asked for.

3) Jue was one of the big stars of Traum along with Roland and Xu Fu. He's as pragmatic and ruthless as he can get but the narrative is no less sympathetic to his motives, ideals, and lifetime failures. Regardless of whether or not the Master he's so devoted to turns out to be an Olga Marie piece in some way, Zhang Jue still has a very important place in the overall narrative as someone whose story and character reflects Olga's own perhaps even better than Douman does.

4) Kagekiyo is perhaps the most successful example of a mixed Servant because Heian gave them a very emotionally powerful character moment as Yoshitsune (Kintoki's best opponent in Heian) while the Kamakura event gave them an equally powerful moment as Kagekiyo proper. Both sides are covered evenly and covered well. Kagekiyo proper is my favorite character in the Ushiwakamaru circle of characters (low bar, but I do like them a lot).

5) Homietrot is my friend. Homietrot is your friend. She's always there being devoted and positive when Morgan and Mash need her. I'm extremely glad she became a permanent addition to the main cast.

6) Miss Crane's event is very rightfully criticized for being a mishmash of idol fandom memes, but Crane herself is one part that's undeniably written with a heart. Also, her design is gorgeous, her less dignified expressions are excellent, her relationships to both her original Master and Romani made me feel things, and her Noble Phantasm is one of my favorites.

7) Quixote and Sancho have their bad jokes along the way but are overall a fun comedy duo with poignant character moments for both of them individually, a neat role in the narrative, insightful commentary about their own nature and how it reflects on other characters, and one of the most soulful profiles in the whole game. Sancho was all in all one of the best ideas possible for this character.

8) Kriemhild already has her own post about her part in Traum, so I'll just add that she's being pretty well-used in interludes and events.

9) Kiichi has a fun personality, is easy to mock as every Sakurai fetish combined, and provided the tengu lore that made me go insane at least twice, but the star of her debut is clearly Kagekiyo so she's a bit on the forgettable side as her own character (as opposed to as the representative of tengus).

10) Bakin speaks funny, had meaningful things to say about Chaldea's role in part 2, and rightfully calls Hokusai a shithead. He's a character I could love if he was a less boring event.

11) Feihu is an always welcome addition to the Investiture of the Gods crew but they kinda did nothing with him beyond "dad" and the stupidest questions about loyalty. It's a shame they sacrificed Tianhua's chances for a solo Servant debut, but the family gimmick was imo worth it.

12) Caren is Caren. Not even her memes are new. Welcome presence as a new member of the NagiKama friend circle, but it was it is.

13) Lostbelt Percival is one of those Avalon le Fae cast members I paid the least attention to. His opinion on fae is a thing I agree with, though. Can't comment on Pan-Human Percival because I'll only buy the first Aslaug novel next month.

14) Constantine had a charming relationship and an excellent death scene in Traum, but in both cases, Joan was the better side of it. Likewise in his epic duel, Quixote was the better side of it for such a wide margin it ain't even funny.

15) The Trung sisters certainly existed but not nearly as much as the Cons existed (and still constantly exist in merch). All I can say is congratulations to the Vietnamese fans.

16) Tametomo was a minor character in Traum, then he got a main part in his debut event and I still feel Traum did more for his character than the event did.

17) Galatea has cool pants, which are great but not great enough to compensate for her coming in and out of her debut event completely unaware of what was going on with Aphrodite. If she's going to be a side dish to an Olympian we'll never have, at least let her be emotionally involved with it.

18) Baobhan Sith's Eliza-like visuals are very significant: her whole character concept is "what if Eliza's character arc simply ended in CCC chapter 2 instead of evolving into the perfect redemption arc presented in chapters 5 and 7". Unfortunately, I can't care much about an undercooked version of a great character. At least she's good as an example of how Beryl works.

19) Huyan Zhuo is impressively obnoxious and about the most gratuitous and undignified FGO has gotten with waifubait. She's a good fit for her role of less mature foil for the baby version of Elizabeth Bathory but still solid placed on my bottom 5 Servants.

Have you read record of ragnarok?

Yeah, it's a fun, non-brainer series.

It has some interesting interpretations of the various mythologies and religions, and the gory fights can be pretty entertaining.

It's basically something you can enjoy without thinking too much.

Brunhilde is a fun, morally ambiguous and ruthless "Big Good" character.

Some might claim she's "waifu material" because she's pretty, but I love her for her insanity and the MANY crazy facial expressions she makes thorough the series:

Interest Check: I would love to have some sort of fan event for the upcoming Diabetes Awareness Month in November.

I'm thinking of doing some sort of prompt meme or general fest type thing. I want it low stress, low commitment, you can make whatever you want so long as there's t1d in it somewhere. Fic, art, gifs, anything goes. Any fandom welcome except RPF. Pretty much exactly like what usually goes here, except in a fest format.

I think it would be a good idea to offer some sort of prompts, like lows/highs, tech, diagnosis, whatever.

I have no issues with people doing their own thing either or heck just updating WIPs, but working in a prompt format or making a prompt meme (where people can give specific prompts and writers/artists pick and choose) can be really fun and bring a bit of cohesion to it while displaying the different ways people experience and create things. And ofc it helps offer motivation/inspiration.

So I guess if there's anything specific you want to see with a t1d specific fan event, shoot me an ask or a DM or reblog and let me know. Whether you're interested, what would make things easier for a larger variety of formats (gifs, art, podfics), or anything you want prompted.

I mean. There's a lot involved with this disease, and so many different ways to live with it and have to experience it and. I think this could be a great way to offer new content with t1d but also work with awareness month.

So yeah. Rambling a bit but please please please let me know what you folks would be interested in. Even if you don't plan to create anything yourself but there's something you want to see. Let's hear it.

If you like DC or graphic novels and are looking for original fantasy/sci-fi stories with canonical t1d rep, I cannot recommend Swamp Thing: Twin Branches enough.

It’s a quick, fun retelling of DC’s Swamp Thing (as you may have guessed 😝). It’s basically the prequel/origin story.

And the main character has type 1 diabetes.

How to Find Fanfics with Type 1 Diabetes in Fandom

A Comprehensive Guide to Navigating the AO3 Collection

Hello again, friends and folks!

I've realized some of the blog’s followers haven’t visited the collection of fanfics with t1d rep over on the Archive of Our Own (currently with 250+ fics across 100+ fandoms. seriously go check it out). It has also been brought to my attention that quite a few people are confused about either how to use the Archive or how to filter and search within a collection. I’m thinking the two are probably connected, so consider this my first attempt at a guide on how to easily do things.

Basically, imagine a little diabetic gremlin hovering over your shoulder and offering advice as you browse the collection. That gremlin is me. You’re welcome.

The primary goal of the collection (and this blog) is to provide easier access to fanworks featuring type 1 diabetes. That means:

NO incorrectly-tagged fluff fics butting in on #actuallydiabetic works

NO t2d fics (they have their own collection)

Diabetic characters that are written as diabetic and not simply tagged as such

Comprehensive tagging

Any fiction-based fandom, any trope, any rating

Every. Single. Fic must feature t1d in some way 

You just have to know how to use the tools available to you.

Other people have created several helpful guides on how to use ao3 in a more generalized way, so I’m going to provide links for those and then we’ll get into the nitty gritty of AO3 collections and my personal organizational system.

 “Dr. Strange.” replying curtly

 “Who is going to apologise for hanging you up?” I curl an arm into his. Look up looking expectantly.

 “And Mrs strange?” Peter turns to me holding out a hand.

 “Oh no. not not like that. Well yeah i'm with Strange but not Mrs Strange.” Brushing it off as best i could, feeling a bit flustered

 “PETER!!” a little girl came through the crowd jumping into his arms, followed by pepper shortly after. 

 “Morgan, nice to see you.” The teen hugged the girl tightly, her head looking over his shoulder at me. 

 “Peter, is this your girlfriend?” cocking her head slightly. 

 “No Morgan, she's this nice mans here.” he whispers to her.

 “Shes pretty.” the little girl leaning into strange.

 He bends slightly to reply, “I know” , giving a wink to seal it. 

 “Ok everyone now we've established who is who. Can we get on and party?” Tony added, breaking everyone's attention back to him.

 “Apologise, Stephen and we can leave everyone to get on with their night.”

10,000 Nights - Chapter 11 - Incursion

Chapter Summary:

Here we are finally ! the chapter all others have been leading up to we have revelations and rescues. No warning in the chapter is pretty nice and long, with some action and romanc e!

as always i really love comments and feedback reactions and all that jazz, i love working on this fic and my strange. Although were coming to the end of Chrissy and Stranges story ( dont worry we still have 2 more chapters of them and smut to come) its not the end for them. please enjoy this chapter i was in tears writing it so i hope it gives you some joy reading it.

Part of Strange's plan and the gods was the lure nightmare away from wherever he was, so he could follow him back.

“This all sounds very Orpheus.”

“I mean I can go and get him don't think his music will help you much.”

“You said that originally you made a bargain with Nightmare to leave the God of sleep alone right, can't he put me to sleep or something?”

“Hypnos ? or one of the others?”

“You have more than one god for sleep!”

Taking him to the cave, the God lived in; Stephen stood face to face with until now another mythical God, Hypnos. He had yellow eyes,mottled brown hair with grey and white.  Giving him a very tabby cat feel about him with a permanent disgruntled look like he'd been woken up like one too.

“Hypnos please we need your help, “ Dionysus offered a hand.

“Im aware of the situation but the whole reason this started is because Nightmare was ruining my job.” The sleep god replied.

“So really you're willing to let a girl possibly perish because of your job!” Stephen launches to the god to ring his shoulders. “ I LOVE her. I can't lose her.”

The god seemed quite relaxed even with the shaking of the shoulders. “ You haven't told her yet have you?” He quirks a smile.

Strange stops and realises that he's never said it out loud to her, he was a know commitment-phobe. Being told that ‘he always had to be the one to hold the knife’ by Christine, the woman he thought would be his only love. But yet Chrissy had opened up that gap had been closing in his heart. He wasn't in control around her, he was relaxed, snip-its of the day were normal and he loved it. The high of positivity he felt when he was Chrissy outweighed everything in the universe, he was happy. “ I-”

“Just putting you to sleep, nothing else?” The god asked.

Strange closed his mouth before opening and closing it again before he replied “And a Dionysus here will give me a hallucination of him, were hoping that he's watching me from somewhere.”

“Then sleep Doctor, the most frightening  sleep is when you don't feel it happening.” That was the last thing Stephen thought he'd heard as he hit the floor.

“Ha if he thinks that just going to sleep will work got another thing coming.”

“At least he's trying to save me, seems that history does repeat itself,” I reply to the void beginning. “ If he doesn't get to me what do you actually intend to do to me ?”

“Well you will become the queen of the void we're in, your madness ability I'm sure will come into use when we start invading people's nightmares.”

Thought for a moment that if Stephen was trying to find me, maybe I could trick Nightmare into sending me to fetch him. “Well if I'm to be your Queen of madness, surely you should try it out, to see if it's going to work. You could be real devious and use it on the doctor right now.”

“Are you saying you want to hurt your lover? My queen, you are perfect for me.”

Stephen Strange was floating, not like when he astral projected. He was just in a black void nothing around him until he felt it. The euphoric high mixed with the crushing fear of loneliness. He tried to concentrate on the high he knew in his heart it was some form of Chrissy contacting him. The pinprick of hope shot through the darkness. It took every ounce of his being to swim towards it. He was a mad man that needed that last drop of hope before, the sense of dread overtook him. Reaching the pinhole he looked through to see the video world. The pinhole became a portal, he knew where to locate them and jump through.

First off it had been a yawn he saw you sneaking. Watching your little plump lips make an O. From then he took notice of your wrist peeking out of the regulation uniformed gloves. Unknown to you, his eyes dilated, like someone had flicked a glowing fire on into his eager eyes the moment he saw them. So pure and untouched. Later that same day, dreaming of you below him, gloved hands working his member giving little glimpses of the same wrists.

Next off the list was the considerable stretch you'd do, showing a tad reveal of your stomach with your shirt popping out every time. Your breasts shifting with a light jiggle. He'd look up next to y/c/e lustrous eyes to typically see them dart around in disgrace while hastily tucking back in. The stretch was always impressive, it made you look long and lean. Again daydreams inappropriate of the General, thinking wistfully of you stretched out over the console. Him pressing into you making you bend back more, mewling and puffing as he attacked your neck.

So today with you wearing braids was just too much. More thoughts entering his mind of ripping out those braids to see your locks tumble down and pool around your shoulders. Running his hands, tossing the waves, as he kissed those tender lips that yawned over and over.

It had started a bit of fun. You'd developed a crush on the General but thinking it would never happen you'd thought sneaking in a little look here and there wouldn't hurt. Leaning back in your chair doing a little fake yawn while looking around for him. If his back was turned, you could ogle at his behind the rare time he didn't have his greatcoat. Then one day you thought he had seen you looking, so you turned it into a stretch and quickly got back to work. The stretch released tension in an auditable crack, embarrassed to think it may have alerted it to him more.

You'd sometimes giggle to yourself thinking of the way his hands bunched, revealing his wrists. Many nights you were ashamed to say that you had pleasured yourself to the thought of the same hands rolling up his sleeves revealing more of that crystal, white, freckled skin before they laid onto your ass gripping and kneading, hot breath showering your face as his heart rate raised.

Heart now rapidly rising yourself with renewed thoughts of his imaginary touch, heart feeling like it was going to jump into your throat. Releasing a small smirk to yourself that it maybe had been on purpose you did your hair in braids, like some silly little schoolgirl, so he'd notice you. They were far too young on you but came under regulation, so you thought, smiling more you hadn't begun to notice his presence was nearer. Gulping you look up to your left at the ginger General in your breathing space, his lips pierced, a flash of pink merring over his face.

"Y/L/N, I notice your hair is not appropriate for the bridge, please stay behind after your cycle"

"Yes sir. I mean General."

The hours passed and you were getting nervous at the thought of what the General was going to say to you. You convinced yourself that the worst would maybe a slap on the wrist or at the very most cleaning duty. Other officers filtered out during the day, some around you give little nods of good luck if they caught your eyes, until there was only you left standing by the console. Spying him across the room he was looking out at the sky back to you. Snaking through the other consoles & workstations you stand to attention behind him, making a small cough.

"Y/L/N I see you're still here, as I requested". He didn't turn, hands still cupped behind his back. Thinking well this is good, he can't even look me in the eyes. Maybe the braids are too much rethinking of them.

"Yes General. Forgive me for speaking out of turn but think I know why". Shuffling on your feet looking down at the black work boots that felt so heavy like you couldn't run even if you wanted to. Swallowing "If you'd like me to remove them I can do Sir. Would it be easier to speak to me?".

I honestly can't see the hype and interest in Diana Spencer either, but perhaps Anne Boleyn could go to the top of that pile? There is practically a new portrayal of AB every year, and none of the recent ones are even good. Elizabeth Tudor can possibly fit somewhere in there too, considering her amount of portrayals in comparison to Mary Tudor's.

Good point. I think I've just actively blocked out a lot of the new portrayals of Anne Boleyn recently (especially that 2021 series; I'm happier forgetting that exists), and my dash is never as flooded with her. @en-theos has warned me of another recent miniseries too. Somehow amidst all this 'The Tudors' remains one of the better, more nuanced portrayals of Anne, but then again I think 'The Tudors' was unique amongst all Tudor/Henry VIII-related media for the deliberate care it took to portray the religious and political aspects of Henry's reign beyond just "hurr durr six waifus", with a lot of focus on the supporting characters of his reign (even if it's not always accurate and sometimes important figures like Cranmer and Norfolk just go missing--but I loved everything we got with the Pilgrimage of Grace and Henry's religious conflicts since most people don't realise Henry was a doctrinal Catholic all his life and the show did show that; furthermore, this is still the best portrayal of Cromwell and I loved the attention given to Edward Seymour, Bishop Fisher, all the politics surrounding Henry, Colm Wilkinson was there for some reason, etc).

... This is in danger of turning into another "why I still think The Tudors is one of the best piece of Tudor media despite its flaws" reply, so I will stop there (my dissertation was on Tudor monarchs so I know far more than I should), but.

Honestly I'll fully admit I'm biased and just find Anne Boleyn more interesting than Diana Spencer (it's just too modern for me--as callous as it sounds Diana Spencer hasn't been dead long enough for me to be invested in her or interested), but I've been avoiding the recent Anne-centred shows so it just slipped my mind. (Also, Wolf Hall was bad too, sorry, I stand by it--it was the same stereotypical portrayals of everyone claiming to be 'unique' because it was from Cromwell's POV, but The Tudors still managed to have a better Cromwell and Anne at the end of the day. Vaguely hilarious.)

The Best Yuri of 2020

2020 was hell in every way, and many of us are looking forward to new possibilities and advances in 2021. However, the year brought us many small moments and gifts worth celebrating. Among these, the explosive growth and change within the Yuri genre are among the most precious and most outstanding achievements. This second century of Yuri opened with a bang, as phenomenal new works, creators, and moments made their mark and helped change the future genre.

This annual list is a celebration of just a handful of the fantastic titles, people, and events in Yuri. There are likely some even greater ones that did not make the list because there is so much content in both English and Japanese that even I cannot keep up. However, among the troves of treasure, these titles stood out as shining examples of Yuri excellence. Some were released this year, others were recently adapted into English, and still, others are established titles that rose to prominence to dominate the conversation and my mind this year, but every one of them is worthy of being on this list and in your heart.

15: The Curse of Kudan Remastered

Japanese Yuri visual novel developers show no sign of slowing down as they continue to push to new heights and try new ideas. These are the same amazing people who brought us the delightful educational Yuri game The Expression Amrilato and the hilarious and surprisingly queer OshiRabu: Waifus Over Husbando’s. However, this most recent release, The Curse of Kudan Remastered, is their best work yet. Released near Halloween, this game brings a new edge of dark mystery and the occult to Yuri audiences worldwide.

The Curse of Kudan is available on MangaGamer, JAST USA, Denpasoft, and Sekai Project.

14: Adachi and Shimamura

English audiences were finally treated this year to Hitoma Iruma’s long-running and wildly successful Yuri light novel series, Adachi and Shimamura. Although the story struggles to gain traction, dedicated readers’ have their patience rewarded with a sweet tale full of gay pining. Alternatively, you can jump into its stellar anime adaptation, with gorgeous visuals and realized characters you will actually be willing to put up with the annoying Yashiro just to see where the title characters go. The series shows no sign of slowing down either, as the manga adaptation is coming to Western audiences next year.

Honorable Mention: Happy Go Lucky Days

The OVA adaptation of Fragtime got most of the attention this year. Still, director Takuya Satou and Pony Canyon also gave us this much-overlooked “love is love” anthology movie based on Takako Shimura’s manga (Sweet Blue Flowers, Wandering Son). The first short in the film, “Happy,” is easily the best Yuri anime of the year. It follows the beautiful yet realistic queer love story of two women hooking up at a mutual ex-girlfriend’s wedding, only for the relationship to blossom and warm viewers’ hearts. Sadly, while stylized, the budget demanded the animation cut a few too many corners. Additionally, the subsequent stories are at best tedious and at worst alarmingly problematic, which is why Happy Go Lucky Days only gets an honorable mention.

13: Mieri Hiranishi

The Yuri scene has many colorful creators with a breadth of different ideas and stories in the genre, yet few have provided as much humor and joy as Mieri. This talented creator spectacularly tumbled into the scene with her manga essay The Moment I Realized I Wasn’t Straight, which embodies the brutal honesty and realism of Nagata Kabi and matches it with exaggerated hilarity. She continues to chronicle her painful struggles of being a butch girl in love with butch girls in the monthly series The Girl that Can’t Get a Girlfriend. Alternatively, you can follow her on Twitter for just as much heart and laughter.

12: My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!

My Next Life as a Villainess has what can only be described as volcanic bisexual energy. Every character protagonist Catarina Claes encounters is entirely enthralled by her. Of course, she is far too preoccupied with her quest to avoid doom flags and change her ultimate fate to notice any romantic interest. The series is rewarding and well structured, as views are just as focused on how Catarina plans to avoid certain doom as they are with the various romantic misses her band of companions cooks up. While the “friendship ending” did not capitalize on its Yuri potential, it was perhaps the most satisfying possibility for this crazy harem, at least until season two comes out, which looks, unfortunately, to be significantly less queer.

11: Love Me for Who I Am

Kata Konayama’s manga series is less Yuri than a general LGBT work, but it has a lesbian character and explores her identity and struggles in great detail. Few titles before have captured the exciting and nervous waves of emotions that young people feel as they explore gender and sexual identities and try to find themselves. This heartfelt and extremely queer series rubberbands between cute moe dress up to tragic and gripping backstory, keeping readers on their toes the whole time.

10: A Summer’s End – Hong Kong 1986

Oracle and Bone’s debut visual novel, A Summer’s End, is set in a vibrant and electric 1980’s Hong Kong. Drawing inspiration from classic Asian cinema, music, and fashion. The worlds of Michelle, a young office worker, and a free-spirited woman named Same collide. The two struggle to comprehend and accept each other’s feelings just as they struggle against society’s expectations and prejudices. An incredibly thoughtful and touching adventure, the creators incorporated vital contemporary elements include Asian LGBTQ rights and growing political unrest in Hong Kong, into this illustrious game.

Honorable Mention: Goodbye, My Rose Garden

In the same vein as A Summer’s End, Goodbye, My Rose Garden is a beautiful period piece that incorporates LGBT views into its shattering narrative. The story follows a bright-eyed immigrant, Hanako, wanting to make a new life in England as an author at the dawn of the twentieth century. She takes a job as a maid to noblewoman Alice, but their relationship takes a turn when Alice asks Hanako to kill her. This poignant tale is beautiful and an honest depiction of love and its conflict with responsibility and society.

9: Shio Usui

Usui’s hit Shaikaijin Yuri manga Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon could easily take this spot even though it is not even out in English until February 2021. The manga is already making waves and receiving constant praise. The characters and their journey to discover love and self-acceptance are as charming as they are relatable and grounded. However, it is the creator, Usui, who really deserves acclaim. Not just for their work on Doughnuts, but having a second serialized story, Onna Tomodachi to Kekkon Shitemita, in monthly Yuri magazine Comic Yuri Hime simultaneously. It is even more remarkable when you consider these two iconic stories are Usui’s first long-running works, as they only contributed one-shots before.

8: Bloom Into You: Regarding Saeki Sayaka

Bloom Into You is possibly the most iconic Yuri series in the past decade, and while the manga deserves its own place on this list, the best thing to come out of the series as a whole is easily the light novels. This trilogy by Adachi and Shimamura creator Hitoma Iruma dives deep into supporting cast member Sayaka. Readers are treated to a delightful journey as she discovers her sexuality, experiences heartbreak, and finally finds herself breaking free and falling in love. With the help of gorgeous illustrations by Nakatani Nio herself, Iruma masterfully captures Sayaka’s unique voice and emotions in this wonderful series. Whether a fan of the originals or not, every Yurijin must check out Regarding Saeki Sayaka.

7: Our Teachers are Dating

The best a Yuri can get. This workplace romance follows two teachers at the start of a new relationship taking nervous yet enthusiastic first steps, including saying I love you, going on their first date, and even sleeping together. It is so heartfelt and salacious that readers will squeal the whole time. Additionally, our heroines are supported in their relationship by everyone they know, their students, colleagues, and even the principal. It is a perfect world for these two lovebirds! Our Teachers are Dating would easily be number one or two in any other year, but the competition is fierce in 2020. So even though this is only number seven, it is still a master class Yuri manga.

6: Amongst Us

Who would have thought that a comedy alternative universe story spinoff of a fantasy action series would be the single best Yuri webcomic this year? Shilin’s astounding artwork illustrations the hilarious and irresistible journey of girlfriends Blackbird and Veloce. These two eccentric young women get into all kinds of everyday mischief that bounces between tender and touching romance, completely outrageous comedy, and downright thirst-inducing sorcery. Seriously, you should buy the first volume for Veloce’s back muscles alone. The storyline skips between time, but both their established relationship and their meeting as teenagers are adorkable and captivating.

Honorable Mention: Éclair

There are a lot of Yuri anthologies out there, and they have done some beautiful things. Many focus on themes like Syrup. Others collect a series of stories by an author into one bound work. However, out of all of them, Éclair is the most successful. ASCII Media Works took some of the genre’s most extraordinary creators and let them do whatever they wanted, and the results are spectacular. The incredible talent behind Éclair somehow packs a full volume’s worth of story and character into just a few pages with every chapter. While the first volume came overseas a few years ago, Yen Press gave Yurijin a gift this year by releasing the entire rest of the series in which readers can get lost.

5: I’m in Love with the Villainess

A small trend of isekai Yuri with villainesses emerged recently, and I honestly had few hopes of I’m in Love with the Villainess. The series is pretty popular, but I often find that this does not denote quality, and with isekai having some institutional issues, I suspected this would fall flat. Then the volume three cover showcased an incredible accomplishment, allowing for a lesbian relationship to blossom into a family with children, and it blew me away. Finally, I read volume one and realized that the series has incredible character, some of the best world-building I have ever seen in a light novel, thoughtful discussions of inequality and societal issues, and most impressively, open and frank discussion of queer identity and life Yuri has ever seen! This one is something special.

4: The Last of Us Part II

Yes, I know this one is not Yuri and that a portion of the population despises this game and will likely be exceptionally angry at me for including it. However, I maintain that it was an incredibly challenging masterpiece. Naughty Dog did not take the easy route out and delivered one of the most devastating media experiences I have ever seen. As I said in my article about the game, playing it changed me, and it sticks with me to this day. The Last of Us Part II earns its spot on this list because it pushed boundaries more with LGBTQ inclusion than any other AAA game. From brave inclusion of LGBTQ themes to queer characters and storylines at its center, the game changes gaming and it will never go back.

3: She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

She-Ra feels like the culmination of all the LGBTQ progress western cartoons have made over the past few years. From The Legend of Korra to Steven Universe, young people are finally seeing more LGBTQ people represented on the small screen. This epic fantasy concluded with an amazing and powerful lesbian romance, delivering on its queer promise and revolutionized representation in a trope-defying crescendo.

2:  The Conditions of Paradise

The greatest single Yuri work of all in 2020 was the English release of Akiko Morishima’s breakthrough manga, The Conditions of Paradise. Initially released in 2007, this anthology detailed the love between adult women. It was in every way a manga ahead of its time, and seeing it finally get a small piece of the recognition it deserves overseas is a true gift. The fact that we can own this legendary piece of Yuri history and Morishima’s other anthologies is nothing short of a blessing from the Yuri goddess.

Honorable Mention: Otherside Picnic

This eerie sci-fi horror series combines the best of pulse-pounding thrillers, complex and intelligent hard science fiction, and exciting Yuri romance. Author Iori Miyazawa spends as much time crafting a well-paced and intriguing narrative about a mysterious world where occult creatures roam as he does establishing two believable and grounded heroes in Sorawo and Toriko. The romance between the two may be slow to start, but their chemistry is undeniable and as the stakes and story build, so too does their relationship. Not only are the light novels incredible, but the series’ manga adaptation is coming soon to the West as well as an upcoming TV anime in early 2021.

1. Yuri subgenres

For a long time, Yuri was not a genre of its own, but elements of romances or bonds between women found in other works. Now, thanks to an increasing library of works, the advent of social media, and a wider audience, Yuri is a genre on its own, with many creators telling different stories in different styles. However, 2020 saw the continued emergence of something extraordinary, subgenres. Yuri is now so vast, we can actually categorize the works within. Depending on their characters, like classic schoolgirl romances or spicy shakaijin office affairs, their world, such as fantasy or isekai series and thrilling science fiction adventures, and even other elements within. One of my personal favorites is the feminist Yuri that emerges from titles like Sexiled, where women celebrate the accomplishments of other women and dismantle power structures stacked against them. Now, no matter what kind of Yurijin you are, there is something for you to love.

I am happy to leave 2020 behind, but I bring with me a renewed love and admiration for Yuri. 2021 looks to be a somehow even better year for the genre, and I am thrilled to experience every minute of it that I can. Yuri has transformed into something far greater than I ever thought it would be, and let us all enjoy its evolution and expansion together in 2021.

Summer 2021 Opinions

Its that time I come here and pretend I am an anime connoisseur so alas, here are my thots on summer 2021 anime from worst to best

Sonny Boy

I want to like Sonny Boy, I really really do. And I am trying, I really am. I just,,,,, dont get it ASDFGHJ Maybe I am dumb, I am sure its that but like, I cant really enjoy something I dont understand. the music slaps and I think the metaphors and concepts overall are alright but just,,,, I wish I knew what was happening to have an opinion sksks

Tantei wa Mou, Shindeiru.

This is... Very generic. Like its all the same tropes all over and over again and like,,,, snooze tbh. I am a bit behind but the best part of this was the detective on the first ep and like //// bruh ASDFGHJK I mean I honestly wouldnt recommend this but if you're into the waifu kind of generic and sort of maybe kind of mysterious aspect go for it.

Cider no You ni Kotoba ga Wakiagaru

I am including the movie because I got to watch it and this was cute. It was nothing over the top that I would die for and stuff but it was okay. I think the animation and colors were super vibrant and unique and the boy is the best part of the movie. Its a sort of movie that you put in the background and enjoy while doing other shenanigans.

Uramichi Oniisan

It feels so wrong putting this so low because everyone is enjoying this and this is the sort of anime I would absolutely love because its dumb and comedic and dumb and shit but like it didn't really hook me? I mean I am super behind so maybe this will change but idk, its kind of boring at times and the jokes fly a bit over my head and I find it a bit too dramatic at moments but thats just me so dont even listen to what I say xddd

Re-Main

Another anime I reallyyy wanna like xddd,,,, And I do! Kind of.... I am a big fan of sports anime so this was on my radar for a while and the animation is great, the characters are alright and its all a bit formulaic but theres just something in the back of it that makes me not wanna put it higher.... I think it relates to the whole incident thing which, I get its a plot point but at the same time its kind of rushed and brushed over? Like if you take Number 24, which isnt perfect but alas I have a soft spot for, it uses a similar concept but its not overlooked while in here its just.... like no one cares lol?? idk I enjoy it but its not the best out there personally.

Shiroi Suna no Aquatope

Now we start getting onto the ones I enjoyed the most ayeE! Aquatope is an anime I was sure I was going to rate averagely, just because it looked a bit like Barakamon and I am not a huge fan of it but I was pleasantly surprised!! This is such a relaxing anime I put and my worries just wash away. It doesnt have an overly intricate plot or anything but its just soft and they are girlfriends and we get to see cute sea animals and its very cute with the animation, defo recommend it for something light to watch!

Deatte 5-byou de Battle

I didnt put this show in my original watch list but I started it just out of curiosity and surprisingly it really hooked me! Its sort of got that danganronpa-ish vibes to it and its a very interesting plot which I know at first looks generic but the main character carries it very well, every week I am lowkey interested to what is happening and understanding what is going on. I really enjoy the characters specially, their relationships are interesting and it’s overall good

Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid

This is another I wasnt expecting to rank this high but I was pleasantly surprised! I absolutely adoooore Bochan and he is absolutely best boi. His relationship with Alice is super cute and it gets you rooting for them and I just need him to be okay and asdfghjkl ngl the last few episodes took a bit of a weird turn but I still love them lmaoo (I am looking at you bird guy)

Vanitas no Carte

VnC is fantastic. I dont have much to say because I’ve always loved the manga and the story is very heart wrenching and asdfghj WATCH IT FOR NOE OKEI? they are precious and its very heavy, the animation is super well done and the adaptation has been done very well! Its from the same author of Pandora Hearts in case you enjoyed it <3

Hamefura Season 2

OKAY YES MAYBE HAMEFURA IS NOT THE BEST ANIME OUT THERE BUT I ENJOY IT SO I GET TO PLACE IT FIRST ASDFGHJK Its cute, they are all great, the characters, the dynamics are hilarious the humor is great. I still think Season 1 was a bit better because of the pacing but overall its a very very good season 2 nglll
