Indian Dark Academia: Pune
(all of these are my experiences since moving to the city at the end of July this year)
.
The Peth areas are convoluted, haphazardly arranged and teeming with life. You walk through a lane crammed with stalls of fake jewellery, and you want to buy every pair of jhumka and bugdi you can see. You raise your phone and take a close up, deciding that you're gonna post it. (You never do. That picture feels personal, somehow, in a way you cannot explain.)
There is a plaza in Good Luck Chowk on FC road whose basement has a somewhat hidden bookshop. The books there are both fresh and second hand. You make your way to the second-hand shelves and breathe in deeply, savouring the smell of old books and yellowing paper. You want to buy all of them, but you take home the worn copy of a collection of Marathi stories. The old man at the counter gives you a bookmark and tells you to be back with a wide smile and crinkling eyes. (You go back within the week.)
You stand under the dubious protection of a patryacha chhat, cold fingers wrapped around a mud tumbler full of steaming aalyacha chaha. The rain does not look like it will stop anytime soon, but you're not worried. Your best friend is standing next to you with her own tumbler, and both of you are giggling at a story she tells you about her own college— she lives in Mumbai and is visiting for a day, just to spend time with you because she missed you. You silently hope the rain does not stop for a while yet; you're having too much fun.
The sun is high in the sky, but it hides behind rain clouds. You take a step, the soles of your sports shoes scraping over the uneven rock of the tekdi that you decided to explore on an impulse. You're alone, with only the trees and the dog that randomly decided to follow you up the hill in sight. Invisible birds chirp and sing, and you slide your phone out of your pocket to take a photo of the unbeaten path. A little part of you fears getting lost in an unknown place. The bigger, more curious part of you wants to know why the wind sounds so melodious when it slips between the leaves of the trees. You'll post the photo, you think, once you're home.
The college is quiet. It's seven in the morning, and you're already on campus, and have climbed up the walls of the main building to reach that unreachable part of the roof. Except it isn't as unreachable as you thought it to be— the walls are engraved with little messages from the students who came here before you, and you brush your fingers over the letters with a secret smirk. Someone had enough love in their heart to carve a short Urdu love poem for their partner. You search up the words on Google, but the results are inconclusive. An original piece, then. Shame, you think. That is beautiful wordplay. You take a photo, then go back to your book. Class starts at half past seven, and you want to finish at least this chapter.
The library is packed with people, but all of them are silent. It's eerie, but you've been living in libraries for as long as you can remember, and you're perfectly at home in this silence. It feels like being in a temple— there is a awed, almost devotional hush in the air, and you fear that you will breathe too loud. You slip between two darkwood shelves, and brush your fingers over the spine of an old hardbound collection of the works of Pu La Deshpande that looks like it will fall apart any second. You've read this one before, but you check it out anyway.
The exam is tomorrow, but you're sitting in the light of three diyas and feverishly flicking your eyes over the pages of your tattered copy of the Hindi translation of Chokher Bali. This is the eleventh time you're reading the book, but you're still obsessed with it for reasons unknown. Pariksha gayi bhaad mein, you think, and flip the page. The next day, you turn up at the exam hall with bags under your eyes, a completed book, and not a second of studying. You walk out with a score of 19 out of 20, and promptly fall asleep under the shade in the bamboo garden with your head on a friend's lap.
.

How would poly gayatri and pavitr react to their s/o surprising them by speaking Hindi? I have some books on Hindi that I’ll be getting for my birthday on the 16th. I may or may not have decided to learn Hindi specifically because of my crush on these two lmao. Love your spiderverse stuff btw~
𝙎𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣
Cw: just fluff
Notes: Happy birthday! I'm sorry, I forgot it was today, but I rushed to write when I saw the request:') + I don't speak hindi, so if there's any mistakes, don't be scared to correct me!
Tumblr media
>I think Pavitr speaks hindi and a little bit of urdu (he understands and can speak enough to make small talk)
>And Gayatri speaks hindi, tamil and punjabi (she's canonically sikh!!)
>They'd honestly be in tears if they saw you learning hindi for them
>Since they both can speak english I don't think they speak hindi around you, they don't want to make you feel left out
>They do call you pet names in hindi and their other languages, they know you like it<3
>When they saw hindi books around the place they didn't think anything of it, thinking one of them was the owner
>You practiced a lot before showing your skills, you don't think they'd ever make fun of you, but you want to d your best for them!!
>You tried to learn compliments and cute things to say before you learned greetings and basic stuff🥺
>Once you're ready, you wait for the perfect time to strike, it'd be better to do it individually, to see their reaction better
>For Pavitr, you decided to go pay him a visit when he was submitting his work to the daily bugle, you got him flowers and as you were walking alongside him, you turn your head to look at him in pure adoration
>"aapake saath samay kaise beet jaata hai, pata hee nahin chalata." [When I am with you, time flies away so fast]
>it doesn't matter if your pronunciation was off, or if you stuttered mid sentence, it was perfect to him. You're* perfect to him
>He's hugging you and spinning you around while he kisses your face
>Success number one 💯
>For Gayatri, you decided to pick a more dramatic occasion and phrase
>It was Pavitr's patrol night, so you two went alone to a fancy dinner, even if it maybe wasn't your style, there's nothing wrong with satisfying your lover's whims
>When you left the restaurant and where about to head home, the bright silver moon illuminated the sky, it was almost as beautiful as her brown eyes
>main tumhen apana banaana chaahata hoon [I want to make you mine]
>Like with Pavitr, it doesn't matter if you didn't get to say it without any inconvenience, she'd just let out a small amused laugh and call you adorable
>She puts her hand on your cheek, pulling you in for a slow, romantic kiss<3
>Success number two 💯
>They definitely talk about it when they're alone and fawn over you like giggling schoolgirls
>"omg did Y/N talked to you in hindi too?!"
>"I know, aren't they the cutest??!!!"

Introduction post!
Basics
Hi!!!
My name is Kesar (or any other variant of the name Caesar is fine to call me!) and I am 15. I am neurodivergent. I am an Asian-European (India and Sweden!), Hindu, and my pronouns are he/they!
Interests and Likes
I have a hyperfixation/special interest (I don't know which to use because I'm in denial about being autistic LMAO) of the Mediterranean, mostly Italy and Spain but also France, Portugal, Egypt, Greece, etc!
Languages
Due to my interest, I have taught myself Italian all on my own and I study Spanish at school since 2020, so I can speak them both at a good level.
All of the languages I speak as well as some more info on my history with them:
Swedish, I speak it every day and a bit at home
Hindi, I speak it every day at home with my family
English, I speak it here and I consume a lot of English media. Also I went to an international school for a couple of years.
Spanish, I've been learning it at school. Ever since I started learning it I've been the best in the class (this is very much a flex, I am very proud of the fact). I speak it at a very good level but I'm not close to fluent.
Italian, I am very proud of that I speak it because I learnt it all on my own using primarily music. I started learning it in 2021 but then took a LONG break for almost 2 years and in 2023 I got back on track and learnt it so well I'm almost at the same level at it as I am at Spanish hahaha
French, as I speak Spanish and Italian it wasn't that hard for me to get a grasp at French. I'm definitely not good at it and am best at written French, not spoken, but I understand enough to say I know it. Also, I can carry a conversation in French so. Yeah. I also really like Lupin.
Urdu, as I speak Hindi I understand Urdu well. Of course there are words I don't know, but since I understand so much of it and I speak it better than I speak Spanish or Italian I had to include it.
Music
My favourite song artists are Marco Mengoni and MIKA. They are my top 2. I love them so much.
I also listen to Mahmood, Måneskin, Queen, The Lonely Island, Lady Gaga, Kali Uchis, Megan Thee Stallion, Veronica Maggio, Shreya Ghoshal, and a lot more.
Apart from that I like English music from 2000 to the late 2010s. I also like Hindi music, rap (i listen to a LOT of Megan Thee Stallion, she's such a queen), Eurovision (although I am not supporting them this year due to them including Israel, Free Palestine🇵🇸), Hispanic music, Francophone music, Italian music and Swedish music. I also enjoy classical, both South Asian and European.
TV
I love TV! My favourites are dramedies. I like comedy a lot. My favourite type of show would be sitcoms because I understand them and I grew up with them and I like their humour. Here are TV shows I very, very strongly like in no particular order:
Psych, Brooklyn Nine Nine, Community, 1899, Mythic Quest, Lupin, Monk, SNL (Saturday Night Live) and probably more that I just don't remember right now.
I have also watched a lot of other things, but this is all that comes to mind.
There are films that I really like, and most of them I have watched more than a few times. Like there were literally periods when I would just keep rewatching these:
The Kung Fu Panda film series, The Hotel Transylvania film series, The Lorax (specifically the Italian dub), The Shrek film series, and once again probably many more.
Other stuff I like:
Doraemon, Spider-Man: Into The Spiderverse & Across The Spiderverse, Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhaan (2020), Smiley (2022), Saiki K (TV series, I haven't been able to read the manga :/), etc.
Books
Mostly I read fact books, in middle school the librarian hated me for (metaphorically) eating up all the books on ancient Egypt, but I also have a few books I really like!
I love Rick Riordan. My favourite from him is definitely The Kane Chronicles but I also like PJO. I'm TKC all the way, though.
I also like Geronimo & Thea Stilton as well as Diary of a Wimpy Kid. They give me comfort.
I have a lot of queer books I bought for the sole reason of them being queer but I haven't read them yet hahahaha. I'm almost finished with Friday I'm In Love by Camryn Garrett!
I am also reading Babel by R. F. Kuang and Marina by Carlos Ruiz Zafón!
Playlist time!
My Marco Mengoni playlist:
My Brad Bakshi playlist:
My Trobed playlist:
My Braddavid playlist:
My StottleMonk playlist:
My Sethon playlist:
That is all I can really come up with right now, but I will probably edit this soon! I'm not very good at stating what I like and all of that because I'm always scared I'm not telling everything or that people won't understand how I like it and stuff LMAO so don't be surprised if I take this post down :( I'm trying to get better though, so I'll keep it up!

we're back with more south asian!ballister headcanons
part one is here
I did not expect such a positive reaction to part one, so here are some more that I wrote down while going about my day today!
starting with building on what I was doing in part one, relating to the transition to primarily speaking urdu to always speaking english
sometimes ballister forgets english words for things
now, there are two routes you can go with this
either, A, he does that thing where he snaps his fingers a few times to remember
eg, "And then I picked up that," Ballister trailed off, snapping his fingers a few times in frustration. "What's it called? Unda..." he furrowed his brow. Ambrosius tilted his head, "Unda?" he echoed. Ballister waved a hand. "That's the Urdu word for it..." he snapped his fingers definitively, face brightening. "Egg! It's an egg."
or, option B, he just makes crap up
think those videos by Dez the Lez on youtube where she talks about her mother making up random phrases in english to describe words that she forgot (eg. "horse tornado" for carousel)
for example, "Where's my hydration unit?" Ballister asked, opening a cabinet, closing it, then opening another. Nimona stared at him. "Hydration unit?" "You know, the thing," Ballister clicked his tongue as he spoke, as if he was making even a lick of sense. "The hydration capsule." Ambrosius looked up from the book he was reading. "Do you mean a water bottle?" "Water bottle, right!" Ballister laughed, as if it was totally normal to call a water bottle a hydration unit. "Where is it?" "You left it in our room," Ambrosius said offhandedly. Ballister sighed. "Thanks," he said, then left to go find it. Nimona gaped at Ambrosius. "How?" she breathed. "How the hell did you get 'water bottle' from 'hydration unit'??" Ambrosius shrugged. "You get used to it."
both are great options
while option B is way funnier and opens up more opportunities for fics, I think option A might be a little more in character
or he just alternates between the two. that is absolutely an option.
uh, fun fact, I myself have actually called a water bottle a hydration unit before, but I think that's more of me being a dumbass than anything because english is my first language LMAO
chai. ballister LOVES chai.
he is more devoted to chai than he is to ambrosius (/J /J /THAT WAS A JOKE)
if he sees starbucks "chai tea latte" or whatever they call it in his house he is KICKING YOU OUT
ambrosius's favorite hobby is to hug ballister from behind while he's stirring the chai pot and it's a very warm and cozy moment that smells like chai and it is one of their favorite things to do, both during their institute days and post-canon
there was also this one time ambrosius and ballister were kissing (actually, they were probably making out) and the chai boiled over because they were too distracted to tend to it, but the two of them try not to bring that incident up
at first, nimona made fun of ballister for his mildly obsessive chai drinking ("tea?? you're drinking tea?? my god, how old are you? just hop in the senior center now")
then, he finally just forced her to try some, and suddenly he was making three cups instead of just two
and on the topic of drinks,
ballister also really loves mangos, and has fond memories of climbing huge mango trees as a kid and picking them (this memory is stolen from my pakistani dad, shoutout to him akjdhaskj)
this has led to a love of mango juice
he knows ALL the brands. ALL OF THEM.
his favorite is Shezan, because let's be real, Shezan is the best mango juice and I CAN AND WILL throw hands on this
I can vividly imagine ambrosius and ballister grocery shopping and ballister asks ambrosius to go grab some mango juice and ambrosius returns with like the first thing he saw on the shelf and Ballister took the bottle from Ambrosius and examined it. "This one?" he asked skeptically. "Uh, yes?" Ambrosius chuckled. "It was the first one I saw." "This one has a strange aftertaste," Ballister said idly, putting it back on the shelf. Instead, he selected a pack of juice boxes. "These are the best." He then started to ramble about other brands and their pros and cons, but Ambrosius barely heard him. He was fairly certain that, if he were a cartoon character, he'd be making heart eyes at Ballister. Ballister noticed, trailing off when he caught Ambrosius's gaze. He tilted his head to the side. "What?" Ambrosius felt an uncontrollable smile spreading across his face. "Nothing." Ballister watched Ambrosius for another second before snorting out a small laugh and ducking his head to break eye contact. They moved on after that, but Ambrosius made sure to commit the brand name of that mango juice to memory after that.
mango juice is important, alright? bad mango juice is a crime.
this is already super long, but here's one more I sometimes see people talking about
kajul. kohl. whatever you want to call it, ballister uses it.
okay, let me get something straight. sometimes I see fics where one character puts kohl on another, and I just wanna say I could NEVER
for those of you who think kohl is like an eyeliner, it's not. not really.
grab a mirror, and pull your bottom eyelid down. the lower eyelid that connects to your bottom lashes? THAT'S where the kohl goes.
my sister is the one who introduced kohl to me, and she was like "okay storm, you can use mine, but I can't put it on you" to which I responded "wait, why not?" and she showed me where it goes and let me tell you I GASPED in that public bathroom
needless to say I chickened out and did not end up wearing kohl that evening
but enough about me
ballister boldheart is a braver man than me
kohl is cool because it's a culturally, historically, completely inarguably gender-neutral makeup product which is so awesome tbh
anyways he wears it fairly often and it really brings out his stupid gigantic sad wet kitten eyes
ambrosius adores it
nimona wants to try putting it on but ballister is paranoid she'll stab herself in the eye, despite her complaints that she can just "form a new one"
this was, again, so much longer than I expected, but I still have more headcanons! I'll probably make a part three soonish, but until then, enjoy these!
-Storm
