i was at a show last night for a band that’s been a staple of my city for like. 30 years? theyre the ones who played at my parents wedding and shit. but it was odd bc like. it was the most. like. my parent’s scene inside of my city show ever like. oh my goddddd.. like i mentioned before that my parents are well known where i live but like. im talking like. 30 years ago so like. everyone is like 55-70 in this crowd and i havent seen any of them since i was little. ppl were coming up to me like omg hi!! i used 2 babysit u/cut ur hair/etc and it was like. hi. i um. i transitioned. you may have heard about that. yeah my sister? well um. um. would you believe if the same thing happened to him.
#so. heres my description. the show was inside a video rental store that is beloved by the community#they have a small coffee bar so i got a lavender lemonade#the only ppl my age were the children of one of the guys in the band#also artists.#everyone knows everyone. even i know everyone#theres one dude who is famous for setting up an easel in clubs and painting with no hesitation. he did not do that but he brought a painting#to display during the show. he did tai chi in the corner during the show (which was a rock band.) while his girlfriend- who i’ve known since#i was very small bc she used to run events at the local bookstore- who is dressed very goth is crocheting and not paying attention to him#another guy famous for dancing at shows (often wearing a carrot costume.) was there. he was wearing a colorful blouse that was very ripped#and two pairs of glasses he glued together so one is upside down and the other is rightside up. he dances. intrestingly. and he was filming#himself. not the band. himself. the whole time. He brought a friend who was not wearing shoes. (it was pouring rain outside? and this venue#is literally not somewhere comfortable to walk on barefoot?) who tried to dance but wasnt very good so he kept lookin at the carrot guy for#help. pretty much everyone in the room got a shout out. ppl who havent seen me in years recognized me for some reason#god it was. tiring#we went with my dad’s best friend. who has the same name as my mother so ppl. still seem to confuse them lmao#esp bc my mom doesnt like to go to as many things to its often. my dads best friend my dad and me. which does look like a family ig

asked reddit how to maintain stage presence while seated and the responses are ridiculous so does anyone here have advice?
#‘‘get a wheelchair for sympathy’’ yeah i would have a wheelchair if it were that easy to afford!!!!#i did like the advice of making the chair super cool. the person suggested i go to a thrift store and get the best chair there#i’ll have to see about clearing that with the drummer (concert is also her grad party) but sounds like a good idea#however it doesn’t actually help me look less awkward while singing and that’s the problem#is that by default i sit with my whole body crossed and folded and that’s not how to look like a lead singer#and all the rules i know to fix that involve standing up. and i nearly passed out just singing my songs from a chair yesterday#because that was somehow also too much exertion. yeah i’m not doing very well. i wish the concert could wait#but anyway has anyone here had to perform from a chair and your hands weren’t automatically busy?? what did you do with them????#i’ll be playing cello in some songs so i’ll be alright for those but other than that i have no clue what to do#anyway our second concert ever is in a few days i’m pretty nervous#this saturday. real people are coming and a real musician is opening#and i’m not even allowed to wear my cool shoes :(#i also keep dreaming that it’s the last day of school and i’m walking down the hallway crying???? and seeing people i miss??#so just feeling a little bit strange. anyway my grandparents will be picking me up in a little bit to go out for my birthday (was in april)#so i’m gonna have a shower and get ready for that. but here is a little status update i guess#me. my post. mine.#delete later#and right please give advice!!!! my stage presence is already awful cause i’m autistic and can’t read the room. being seated makes it worse#anyway i’m getting in the shower. but thanks preemptively for any and all advice and otherwise i just hope you’re well

My work boots are the most expensive shoes I’ve ever owned.
Also the most comfortable. I chose them after trying on several different brands and comparing lifespan vs usage vs comfort - I needed them for a physically demanding job, not the weekend hiking trails. I could have easily chosen cheaper boots that would have lasted long enough to be worth their low price, but I know the Sam Vimes Boot Theory and knew weaker, less comfortable boots would make my life harder in the long run.
So when the outside edge of the heel started wearing down after three years of heavy use I went to the shop I got them from and said “hey this is a common problem for me with how I walk but now it’s affecting my ankles and knees and I don’t wanna have to buy a new pair, is there a way to fix this?”
The salesman at this very fancy upscale boot store said “oh yeah, there’s a shoe repair place that can give you some heel guards - it’ll keep the rubber from wearing out.”
So at 8am this morning right after my 9hr shift ends I went to the shoe repair shop and it is the most hole-in-the-wall, is-this-a-real-business-or-a-mafia-front, am-I-gonna-get-shot tiny cinder block cube I’ve ever seen in my life. I grew up plenty poor and love me a good hole-in-the-wall business, but going from upscale store to this cash-only repair shop gave me whiplash. Wasn’t expecting this when a guy who wears three piece suits to sell boots said it’s the best place to go.
The skinny kid behind the counter looks somehow 16 and 25 at the same time, but when I tell him this place was recommended he smiles and says to hand over my boots. I hand him the vaguely warm foot-smelling boots, and stand in my socks in the 3’ square entryway surrounded by every color leather polish you could buy and watch as he turns my boots around in his hands, sizes up a crescent moon bits of plastic, and unceremoniously hammers tiny nails through them before handing them back.
The heels are perfectly level again. I can walk without almost rolling my ankles. They don’t clack loudly on the pavement or feel different. This is gonna fix my knee pain. It cost $10.
This kid had every tool he needed within arms reach, worked fast and smoothly, I was in and out the door in less than 8 minutes, and it only cost $10.
I didn’t think anything could cost only $10 anymore. I’m so used to hyperinflation prices I was spiritually thrown back to the 1400’s visiting the cobbler in town square. This kid might have been that cobbler and just decided to never die.
I’m still reeling from the whiplash, and gobsmacked at the price, and thrilled I didn’t have to go buy new, worse work boots (cuz I don’t have that kind of money for a second pair, I’m expecting these ones to last a decade) and it feels like I just experienced one of the rare little chunks of magic that floats around our world.
