The Great Knitted Christmas Gifts Bonanza of 2024
(Working title)
Besties and beloved mutuals, welcome to the chaos.
This will be wacky. Zany. Incredibly boring at times and possibly excessively dramatic for no reason at all except my (and hopefully your) amusement. We will laugh! I will cry! We will perhaps commiserate over things and also I will aggravate my carpal tunnel! I will ask for advice on things I don't know how to do! I will make polls because audience participation is enrichment for me! Good shit good shit let's get started
At the time of writing it is September 18, 2024, also known as 98 days before Christmas Eve, which will heretofore be known as The Deadline™️. I have, at present, four family members for whom I am making gifts. Now you may be thinking "Kay, that's only four people. That does not warrant a big post." But I'm making one anyway so here we goooo
PERSON #1
Mom. I already decided on my mom's gift, she's getting a shawl. It's my first shawl and I'm kinda geeked about it. It's the Cosmos Textured Knit Wrap from Mama in a Stitch
Tumblr media
(photo taken from Mama in a Stitch's website I hope that's ok??)
Yarn is Red Heart worsted weight acrylic in Royal. Now here's the situation: I haven't made a wearable with acrylic yarn in awhile and I wasn't a huge fan of how it felt last time. But I know people do it literally every day, so: when the time comes I will be soliciting advice on how to make it soft and comfy. Plus I hate blocking and I'm gonna have to block this so yay growth!!
PERSON #2
My sister. Adorable, likes a pastel, super long hair, so I was thinking...scrunchies? And then I was thinking scrunchies are not necessarily on the level of gift I was aiming for so I thought...scrunchies + matching leg warmers (babydoll goes to the gym sometimes so i thought it would be cute)? And then. AND THEN. Was scrolling Pinterest instead of sleeping and I found these!!!
Now there are pros and cons
Pros:
I have been wanting to knit lace
I have been wanting to knit socks
Cons:
I have no experience knitting lace or socks
Oh well f*ck it we ball! Will still try to match the scrunchies to the socks. Send thoughts/prayers/advice/yarn recs, because idk what I am doingggg
PERSON #3
My brother. So, at the first of the year I started knitting a blanket kind of just because--I really liked the pattern and I wanted the feeling of starting something new in the new year. In April I decided it would be a gift for my boyfriend at the time, in May it became too hot to knit with wool, and in July the relationship ended. My brother has expressed interest in a blanket from the same pattern and has offered to take this one off my hands. I'm about 3/4 of the way done. Should be an easy gift, right? Maybe I'll throw in a matching pillow?
However, I once promised to make him this sweater:
Tumblr media
(image snagged from the MomentsinTwine Etsy shop)
I bought the pattern, I bought the yarn, and I never delivered. (I started it and frogged it twice because my gauge was so so off.)
So uhhh PLEASE do the poll I need help deciding. Yarn would probably be a golden yellow wool blend, because that is the color he wanted 3 years ago and if I ask for an updated color choice he'll know what I'm working on 😭
PERSON #4
My dad.
Y'all.
I have no idea what to do for this man. He is a very classic "I don't want anything" person, and I am a classic "Must. Give. Gift." person. So already, times are tough!! What am I supposed to knit this man???
So I was thinking slippers-- I found a pattern for Woodland Loafers on Ravelry (pattern by Claire Slade) and I thought they were adorable. But then I was thinking why not make a whole, like, cozy care package? So I thought slippers, mug rug + mug cozy, maybe something else? He likes music, he likes to relax and watch his lil shows, he likes M*rvel?? Open to so many suggestions babes.
So...yeah. That's the show. I'll update as I go along, and if you're ever curious about how things are going or want to bully me about not making progress, please nudge me!! Sorry this was so long okay bye

Wow. So much dislike about elves generally preferring to be barefoot in the Dragon Age world.
Y'all.
Why elves not wearing shoes in Dragon Age is completely logical.
Okay, so it’s not a huge secret that I grew up poor. We're talking hardscrabble poor. The kind of poor most people don't think even exists in the western world anymore (I guarantee it does).
To someone with very little ability to buy things, shoes just aren't the priority everyone seems to think they are. City elves are poor in most depictions.
The Dalish would likely feel they'd rather use the materials for something else. They may not be as poor as city elves, but they likely wouldn't be wasteful either. Depending on where they wintered, they might not even use them then. I go out barefoot in light snow and frost, you do actually get used to it.
Fenris is a former enslaved person with lyrium tattoos on his feet. The tattoos cause him pain when touched. Of course he doesn't wear shoes.
I never had casual wear shoes in the spring/summer/fall. They just did not exist in my understanding of the world. There was no need to buy and ruin a pair of shoes when feet toughen up just fine.
I grew up in the Adirondack Mountains, by the way. There are a lot of bloody rocks there. You can't dig very far down before you hit bedrock up there.
We had horses and dogs too, (yes, I'm aware of the crappy juxtaposition of parents who pay for horses but not shoes) so it's not like we're talking a pristine woodland. (Not that anyone who has spent much time in actual wilderness would say it's 'pristine' in the sense of 'clean', anyway.
I'd get a pair of sneakers/runners before school started (usually second hand) and a pair of boots in the winter. I remember having to wear bread bags around my feet inside my boots to keep them dry and whole. Less likely to get frostbite that way.
I distinctly remember my first brand new pair of shoes. I remember my second and third pairs too.
Even now, when I have far too many shoes, more than I could ever need, (I've got a thing for boots, my kids tell me my collection is 'extra'. They're right 🤣) I still prefer to go barefoot. From around April to November, I just don't wear shoes unless I have to. Like, to go into a store or public area; I'll reluctantly wear proper footwear to hike in (and even then they usually wind up over my shoulder instead of where they belong) shoes just aren't the absolute necessity so many folks act like.
I'm aware of what Gaider said about it, that he blamed (unfairly) the art team. It's the director's job to approve things like that, so, uh, bad form.
Still.
It is very possible to have a strong preference for no shoes. You don't really miss what you never had. And to me, it feels like y'all wearing shoes all the time is weird and likely unhealthy. In fact, it kinda is.
"Walking barefoot helps to improve circulation which increases the nourishment of nerves, muscles, and bone of the foot and helps minimize swelling of the lower extremities. Walking barefoot may also help improve the strength and flexibility of the muscles and ligaments of the foot which improves the function of the foot, reducing injuries of the foot, and improving posture and balance of the body."
At most, for just every day, I'll wear a pair of flops if I think the terrain is dangerous enough to warrant it. That's very rarely. I do have a habit of watching where I step, though.
In spring, I go out on the tarmacadam to intentionally toughen my feet up. And no, my feet aren't calloused monstrosities.
It's just kinda mind-blowing to me how essential so many people seem to feel shoes are. They just aren't.
To me, it makes perfect sense that the elves, a historically repressed and abused people (sort of like a lot of my ancestors) don't feel they're necessary.
In a medivalish world like Dragon Age, where blights or false gods or wars keep tearing civilization to pieces, shoes would be ridiculously expensive. I mean, soldiers didn't take boots because they thought they were cool. They did it for resale value.
And cobblering is incredibly skilled labour. I was lucky enough to find someone who still knew how to keep my favourite boots alive longer. That guy could make those boots look almost brand new.
But in that world, poor elves would absolutely not be likely to wear shoes.
Shoes feel incredibly confining to someone who didn't grow up wearing them. I utterly loathe the way shoes feel.
I've also been a dancer and martial artist for a large portion of my life. Two groups of people you'll frequently find barefoot.
The way you walk in shoes is completely different from how you walk barefoot.
It's also an incredibly privileged viewpoint to utterly insist shoes are necessary and that elves in a video game should absolutely have to have them.
The only thing I'm annoyed about is that the armours often include boots, which my elves just wouldn't wear. I should have a barefoot option.
It may not be strictly canon, for the whys behind barefoot elves, but it makes complete sense.
The only elf I'll say it doesn't make sense for is Solas. Why he doesn't wear shoes could just be a big commitment to his cover of elven apostate hobo.
Or perhaps his culture didn't think shoes necessary any more than I do. That would also explain why elves could have a preference for no shoes, it could be a holdover tradition because they all descend from the Elvhen.
It's true that you develop a sense for the earth, or trees, or whatever you're walking on if you don't wear shoes. I spent a lot of time with a book in trees, because few people would climb as high as me so I was safe there. It could easily be that elves wouldn't want to lose that sense, too.
You can learn a lot about an area by what the surface feels like under your feet. If you're a hunter, it's sometimes easier to track if you know your quarry prefers a certain type of terrain. You don't need to look down if you can feel the ground.
In fact, despite what people may think, my feet are incredibly sensitive. Tough, yes, but still very 'feely'.
Point made, I'll stop blathering now 😅.
If you like my content, please consider a tip or becoming a patron. My work of words is my only income and we're living well under the poverty line right now.

K9 Hybrid Gear and Civvies Guide:
Tumblr media
Tac Gear:
A military K9 hybrid’s gear is specifically designed to enhance both their human and canine traits, optimizing them for tactical operations while providing protection and communication tools. Here’s a breakdown of what their gear might include:
1. Tactical Vest/Body Armor:
• Material: Made from lightweight yet durable materials like Kevlar or ballistic nylon, offering flexibility and protection.
• Design: The vest is form-fitted to the hybrid’s body, allowing freedom of movement for their human torso and canine-enhanced limbs (if applicable).
• MOLLE System: Like their human counterparts, the vest has a MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) system for attaching pouches, gear, or identification patches.
• Armor Plates: Some models may include armor plates over vital areas like the chest and back for protection in combat scenarios.
• Velcro Patches: Custom patches for identification (e.g., name, unit, or flag) can be attached, as well as handler-specific patches to show their bond.
2. Collar:
• Military Hybrid Collar: Resembling a communication collar, it holds an integrated microphone and speaker for direct communication between the hybrid and handler. The collar is sturdy, made with metal reinforcements to withstand rough environments.
• Customization: Some collars are personalized, such as Y/n’s, which might have a metal plate engraved with her handler’s name (Alex Keller), symbolizing their connection.
• Attachment Points: There are rings for attaching a leash or other equipment, though leashes are rarely used for hybrids, except in specific scenarios.
3. Headgear/Comms:
• Earpieces: Built-in communication systems in their collars or headsets allow the hybrid to receive commands from their handler directly.
• Headset Attachments: Some hybrids may wear lightweight helmets or headgear that accommodate their ears and protect their heads, with areas to mount night-vision goggles or cameras.
• Night Vision/Camera Gear: Headsets may include advanced technology such as cameras or night-vision gear to help hybrids navigate in low-light situations.
4. Gloves and Footwear:
• Gloves: Designed for hybrids with more animal-like claws or enhanced dexterity, gloves are reinforced to protect their hands without hindering their ability to climb, grab, or fight.
• Footwear: High-performance boots or paw protectors for hybrids ensure they can move across rough terrain while maintaining their balance and agility. Some may have specially designed soles for stealth and grip.
5. Harness:
• Load-Bearing Harness: A harness often attached to the vest, this is used when hybrids need to carry extra equipment such as first aid kits, tactical gear, or ammunition. It may also include an extraction handle, allowing their handler to pull them out of danger if necessary.
• Attachment Points: The harness has reinforced points to attach ropes, useful for rappelling or being airlifted in certain operations.
6. Goggles:
• Protective Eyewear: Tactical goggles shield the hybrid’s eyes from debris, sand, and other environmental hazards. Some might even have built-in HUDs (heads-up displays) for enhanced battlefield awareness.
7. Camo Integration:
• Fur/Armor Coloration: Depending on the environment, the hybrid’s gear will match the standard military camo. Whether it’s desert, woodland, or urban camouflage, the materials and design aim to provide additional stealth.
8. Weapon Mounts (if applicable):
• Some hybrids, particularly those with canine or feline features, may have mounts for lightweight firearms or tactical tools attached to their harness for ease of access by the handler.
9. Hydration System:
• A built-in hydration system similar to a CamelBak, allowing the hybrid to stay hydrated during extended missions without needing to stop for water breaks.
10. Tracking/Monitoring Systems:
• GPS: Built into their collar or vest, providing real-time tracking of the hybrid’s location on the battlefield.
• Vital Monitoring: Sensors that monitor the hybrid’s heart rate, body temperature, and stress levels can alert handlers to any issues in the field.
This hybrid gear is a seamless blend of practicality, protection, and comfort, ensuring that K9 hybrids can perform in dangerous environments while staying closely connected to their handlers.
Tumblr media
Civvies:
A hybrid’s “civvies” are designed for both comfort and practicality, blending the functionality required for their unique physiology with a casual style suitable for off-duty life. The clothing is made from durable, flexible materials that allow freedom of movement and accommodate their hybrid traits like tails, ears, and claws.
Top: Hybrids typically wear a simple, fitted shirt, often sleeveless or short-sleeved, allowing their shoulders and upper bodies to move freely. The material is breathable and slightly reinforced around the shoulders and upper back to prevent wear from repeated stretching and movement. The shirts often have slits or custom tailoring to accommodate tails comfortably.
Bottoms: Cargo pants or loose-fitting tactical trousers are a staple in a hybrid’s off-duty wardrobe. These pants have adjustable waistbands and are designed with reinforced stitching around the thighs and knees for extra durability when in their preferred position of kneeling and sitting. The legs taper slightly to avoid restricting movement, allowing their legs to move unhindered, especially when they need to leap, crouch, or sit. Some hybrids may opt for shorts in warmer climates, but they are always practical and rugged.
Footwear: One of the most distinctive features of a hybrid’s civilian outfit is their unique footwear. Hybrids wear foot coverings similar to trapeze boots, which are designed to protect the soles of their feet while leaving their claws free. These boots are lightweight and open at the toes, with a sturdy base that provides grip and protection from rough terrain or base flooring. The design allows hybrids to extend and retract their claws naturally, giving them agility while keeping their feet safe. The boots often feature adjustable straps or fastenings to ensure a secure fit without restricting their natural foot shape or flexibility.
Outerwear: For cooler weather, hybrids may wear jackets or hoodies that are custom-fitted to allow for their tails. These pieces often have slits or adjustable flaps at the lower back to provide space for tail movement. The jackets are usually made from tough, weather-resistant fabric, ensuring that hybrids can comfortably wear them on or off base.
Accessories: Hybrids may also wear fingerless gloves that allow their claws to remain free for precise movements while still protecting their hands. They might also carry belts with small pouches for personal items, maintaining a functional look even while off duty.

Character Intro: Ichnaea (Kingdom of Ichor)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nicknames- The Hidden Goddess by the people of Olympius
Agapitós by Anytos
Age- 36 (immortal)
Location- Phrygia, Olympius
Personality- She's an introverted, quick, & clever goddess with an exceptional attention to detail. She's also very particular and analytical. She's married & is a new first time mom.
She has the standard abilities of a goddess except shapeshifting. As the goddess of tracking her other powers/abilities include invisibility (by way of camoflauge- which also includes becoming intangible, inaudible, & inodorous), psychometry, having supersonic eyesight, enhanced smell, being able to make objects & other beings invisible, and having limited prophectic visions.
Members of her immediate family includes her husband Anytos (Titan god of anonymity & secrets), her newborn baby daughter Phyge (goddess of escape), and her stepdaughter Despoina (goddess of the arcadian mysteries, frost, winter, & shadows).
Ichnaea lives with her husband & daughter at their lakehouse estate in the state of Phrygia. They have their own private lake, a sailboat, and a stone pavilion outside. Inside the house the color scheme is mint green, gray, cream, dusty rose, & forest green. The interior design is very rustic with stone flooring, many potted woodland plants, brushed brass & wood furniture pieces, leather and burlap furniture, a carved stone coffee table, framed black & white photographs on the walls, various mounted animal antlers, as well as decorative pottery pieces. There's also two guest bedrooms. In her bedroom, there's a co-sleeper for the baby.
A piece of jewelry Ichnaea always wears is a gold locket, which has a photo of her husband and baby.
She has quite the furry brood! There's two bernese mountain dogs named Bear and Duchess as well as three german shepherds named Bruno, Bolt, & Heidi.
Ichnaea starts out her mornings with a three mile jog and a swim in the lake. She'll sometimes have a session of tai chi.
A typical breakfast for her is a small bowl of cereal- her favorites being the Golly Grains vanilla spice & the Earthly Harvest raisin crunch with almondmilk. She also likes banana nut oatmeal (topped with peanut butter & dark chocolate chips), lightly buttered chia seed muffins, toasted whole wheat kalamata olive bagels spread with tzatziki cream cheese, and her husband's shakshuka.
Honeydew, kiwis, apples, bananas, figs, & apricots are her favorite fruits.
Ichnaea has always kept a low profile in the pantheon and public. She doesn't mind her status as a minor deity. Ichnaea just does her best to serve all beings in the realm, pay respect to the crown, and be there for those she cares about.
At home she prefers walking barefoot, but when outside, her preferred footwear are sandals & flats.
A go-to drink is her husband's homemade banana-olive juice. She also likes mineral water, limeade, mint tea, ginger ale, vanilla almondmilk, homemade honeydew-kale smoothies, lychee juice, cucumber & mint flavored botanical beer, orange juice, classic martinis, sparkling green sangrias, white wine, and peartinis. Her usuals from The Roasted Bean includes a large scorching hot dark roast coffee (with plenty of sugar) & an olympian sized iced green tea. She hasn't drunk coffee or alcohol since her pregnancy.
She's not on any social media websites, including the most popular one- Fatestagram.
Her favorite color is light green.
She keeps her straight shoulder length black hair in a low ponytail or tight bun. Ichnaea swears by the olive oil Glory's Crown hair products- the shampoo, conditioner, & hair gloss.
Ichnaea views her relationship with her husband as "The greatest love story ever whispered." Their love grew over time, starting up from when they met on the deserted Mt. Othrys at a small get together with other deities celebrating the anniversary of the end of the Titanomachy. She saved all the letters & love poems Anytos sent her during their correspondence while he was living in Colchis at the time. Ichnaea says that his serious and intense eyes remind her of embered coals. Ichnaea & Anytos were married in a small intimate ceremony in the woodlands. There were only twenty guests in attendance. She carried a bouquet of wildflowers & lilies and wore a pastel light green strapless silk ruffle dress. Her best friend Ioke (goddess of pursuit, tumult, & battle rout) was her maid of honor.
Her favorite frozen treat is pistachio ice cream. She also likes lime sorbet.
Ichnaea's relationship with her stepdaughter hasn't been so seemless. Despoina isn't outwardly disrespectful, but always maintains a certain emotional distance. Ichnaea considers it a treat if her stepdaughter utters more than five words to her. Recently, to get on Despoina's good side, Ichnaea gifted her the latest hardcover mystery novel (with splayed edges) written by Phoebe (Titaness of prophecy, the moon, radiant intellect, & mystery). The Silver Titaness signed the copy herself.
Her favorite desserts are pistachio baklava, key lime pie, and hummingbird cake.
The spinach & mandarin orange salad topped with dried cranberries, pomegranate seeds, toasted almonds, and sweet sesame seed dressing is her favorite thing to get at The Bread Box.
Ichnaea has been enjoying her journey into motherhood. She takes joy in all the little things- the sleepless nighs, the constant feedings and diaper changes, & counting the tiny breaths the baby inhales and exhales. Leto (Titaness of demurity & motherhood) did the maternity photoshoot as well as the birth announcement photoshoot. Ichnaea decided on a home birth with Gaia (goddess of the earth) being her midwife. Ioke was also there for support. After 18 hours of labor, Ichnaea pushed out the most perfect being she ever seen- a six pound baby girl with a thick mop of black hair, a snub nose, cherub cheeks, hazel brown eyes, and dark olive skin. She made Ioke Phyge's godmother, or noná.
She's exclusively breastfeeding & is currently on maternity leave from her job. Ichnaea made note of Phyge's milestones at an appointment with Paean (goddess of physicians) at nine and a half weeks old.
Before becoming pregnant with her daughter, Ichnaea worked in the country's defensive department in the SAR branch (search and rescue) alongside Soteria (goddess of safety). She also worked in Olympius' military department, becoming one of the few decorated & celebrated female snipers in the realm's history.
The alarming number of missing Athenians in Crete has been a real headscratcher for her.
In the pantheon she's also good friends with Lelantos (Lantos) (Titan god of the unseen, air, & hunting), Apheleia (goddess of simplicity), Nárkosi (goddess of sedation), Lethe (Titaness of forgetfulness, oblivion, & concealment), Damia (goddess of naturalness), Elais (goddess of oil), Dyssebeia (goddess of ungodliness & impiety), Limos (goddess of starvation & famine), Ptocheia (goddess of beggary), and Proioxis (goddess of attack, onrush, & battlefield pursuit). She's also friends with Lantos' wife Periboia.
Ichnaea was the official mentor to Britomartis (goddess of mountains, hunting, & fishing nets).
She's also fond of Lantos' daughter Aura (goddess of the breeze).
Ichnaea has traveled throughtout the country (mainly New Olympus) to see her friends.
Her and Ioke has been in attendance to the Olympian Grand Prix, the most popular & exclusive motor racing event in the entire realm!
She even visited Nárkosi at the commune she lives in with Pan (god of the wild, satyrs, shepherds, & rustic music).
For Christmas, Ioke gifted Ichnaea with the Diamond Ave. jeweled camera clutch, as a nod to her best friend's growing interest in photography.
Lately, she's been getting into pressure point martial arts.
She's been developing a bit more of a sweet tooth, enjoying the green grape flavored saltwater taffy from Confection Carousel.
Ichnaea loves listening to alternative, grunge, rock, and classical music. A new favorite has been the music of Moros (god of doom).
Her all time favorite meal is her husband's lentil stew with saffron rice & roasted artichokes.
In her free time Ichnaea enjoys archery, basketball, hiking, boxing, football (soccer), reading, mountain climbing, sewing, going to the spa, knitting, mixed martial arts, cooking, and spending time with family.
"To walk in nature is to witness a thousand miracles."

This was one that @mellowscrolls suggested I do a while ago. Never got around to finishing it, and I’m not sure how canon all of this will be to the fic, but have this WIP anyway :) It’s a bit long
Dragon Fight
Status: Unfinished Oneshot
TW: Violence and Battle
Summary: The Masquerade battles a dragon in an unorganized manner.
———
The main our of the Masquerade trekked alongside a river in the Rift, heading east to the city. It was midday with a clear sky and the sun casted down heat, but the wind pushed the coolness of the water’s surface toward the party, keeping everyone relatively temperate. To their left was the river, and to their right was woodlands. They traveled between the two, just far enough from the riverbank so as not to collect mud on their footwear. It was a peaceful journey, all things considered, if a little boring.
In the break of one of the party’s conversations, a massive shadow was suddenly cast over them, moving quickly. Looking up, the party found the familiar silhouette of a dragon, soaring so high into the air that it was difficult to make out any semblance of details. “Dammit,” Erandur cursed, “Let’s hope it’s just a scout.”
“Let’s hope it lands,” Miraak countered, drawing his sword, “I don’t like the thought of dragons communicating with Alduin over our whereabouts.”
The dunmer sighed as Serana readied her own sword. “Okay,” he said, “Just don’t—”
“Mey dovah!” Miraak shouted into the air, sending no physical force with his Voice but sounding just as loud as a Shout.
“—provoke it…” Erandur grumbled.
The dragon above roared, its words hard to discern through its deep and angry tone. It began to swoop down.
Ego sort of chuckled, “I heard ‘dovah.’ What’d you say?”
“Called him a stupid dragon,” Miraak answered.
“Nice,” Ego responded, drawing their waraxe as they kept an eye on the dragon. “Let’s take cover by the woods before he gets any closer.”
The party made their way over as the dragon swooped over the river, making the water’s surface tremble with an ear-splitting roar. Clearly not happy about the situation, Erandur commented, “Ego, I thought you hated fighting dragons.”
“I do! But, now we’ve got Miraak. Things are a bit less dangerous with two dragon-hunters, aye?”
Just as the party went to turn, the dragon threw itself onto the riverbank, and the group was appalled by just how massive this beast was. For Miraak, the size was familiar but still extremely foreboding, while the other three had never seen a traditional dragon of this size—not as big as Paarthurnax or Alduin, but more massive than any of the others they’d seen previously. “Holy shit!” Ego cursed.
The dragon, with a voice as deep as a well, spouted, “Hin togaat wah paak zu’u los kod!” Its scales were a glistering blue and white with thin spikes jutting all over its back resembling ice crystals. It stood with four feet instead of the traditional two and was battle-scarred.
Miraak fired back, “Nu hi mulhaan bo wah mu, mey?” None of the party caught a lot of it, but that last word, “mey.” That meant stupid, or something similar, they knew. That, plus whatever else Miraak had said, seemed to anger the dragon enough to begin its attack. “Fo…”
“Get cover!” Erandur called, throwing up a ward.
“…Krah Diin!” the dragon finished, hurling a storm of ice and blistering cold at the party. Miraak threw up a ward with him while Serana and Ego ducked behind nearby trees. Everyone avoided most of the impact, and as soon as the stream of Frost Breath ceased, the party jumped out to take action. In near-unison, both Dragonborn Shouted, “Mul… Qah Diiv!” and were wrapped in ethereal armor in the shapes of scales and horns. The dragon roared something in dovahzul to them before taking to the sky, missing any melee attacks that the party could have dealt. As it lifted, Erandur shot firebolts at it, Serana fired ice spikes, and both Dragonborn casted bolts of lightning toward the beast. When the dragon flew far enough that the group couldn’t accurately aim, Ego called to Miraak, “My soul, by the way!”
“Ha! You wish,” Miraak retorted.
“It’s mine, Miraak!”
“You got the last one!”
“I’m still making up for all the ones you stole!”
Erandur piped up, “You two! Quit fighting and focus on the dragon!”
Ego huffed, jogging over closer to the group and next to Miraak. The eldest gave them a punch to the arm, which Ego retorted with a harder punch to his. “Bastard,” Miraak said under his breath. “Asshat,” Ego returned.
The dragon circled the area again before swooping down to them, spraying deadly frost onto the party. Erandur and Miraak cased ward, each pulling Serana and Ego under with them to block the frost. When the dragon passed, Miraak summoned a seeker to aid the group. It reminded Ego to summon their own atronach, producing a lady of fire at their side. Doing so gave them a sudden idea.
“Oh, hold on,” they murmured to themself, reaching for their bag. They recalled a particular staff attached to their bag and pawed at it for a moment before being able to unclasp it and wield it in their casting hand. The Sanguine Rose. Ego smirked at the possibilities. “Alright, Sammy, let’s see what you can do.” The Dragonborn knew fully-well that the Rose could summon a dremora warrior to help, but they also knew a special way to summon the Principality himself. They backpedaled away from the group a short distance, tucked their axe under their arm, and plucked one of the petals from the rose of the staff. Ego dropped it to the ground while Erandur side-eyed them. Within a moment, red smoke billowed up and spun with the air, growing to a height well above Ego’s head. As quick as it had come, the smoke dissipated and in the petal’s place stood the Daedric Prince of Debauchery: Sanguine. He was dressed in the usual red and gold draperies, robes covering his legs and falling over his shoulders. He squinted in the sunlight but spotted the Dragonborn near-instantly and smiled with his fangs. “Oh, you look colorful,” he referenced their Dragon Aspect.
“Yeah!” The Dragonborn cut him off before he could say anything more, then gestured to the dragon—the dragon that was coming down to land. “Wanna help?” They asked in a rather panicked tone, readying their axe.
The ground shook with the force of the landing, making everyone stumble for a moment, and Sanguine looked over at the dragon and froze, eyes going wide. The beast shallowly laughed before drawing in a breath, and in that instant Sanguine scooped up the Last Dragonborn and scrambled to get away, fleeing into the trees. The other three shouted at the Prince for stealing away one of the party members and Ego yelped for Sam to put them down. Sanguine listened to nobody, however, and continued to race into the woods with Ego in-tow while the dragon refocused its Frost Breath on the grander party.
Miraak could be heard Shouting while the others skirmished with the beast. Sanguine ducked behind some trees and brush, peering over to watch the fight in fear while keeping Ego in a tight grip. The Dragonborn squirmed and scolded, “Sam! Let go!”
“This is what you fucking do all day?” he gaped.
“Sanguine!” Ego punched his arm.
“Ah! Sorry!” He let them go. Ego rose to their feet while the Prince stayed kneeling, his ears pointed downward and his tail curled around him. “What did you summon me for?”
“To help!”
“Wh—How am I gonna help? Why didn’t you summon a dremora or something, that’s what the staff usually does!”
“I don’t know! You’ve got Prince powers or something don’t you?”
“You are assuming a lot about what all my ‘Prince powers’ do!” Sam gave an undertone of sass.
“Ego!” They heard Erandur call. “We need your help!” The remaining group was managing but obviously not winning. The flame atronach was long gone, probably due to a frost attack, and Ego saw the seeker that Miraak had summoned get squished beneath one of its feet, fizzling out and returning to Apocrypha. Ego huffed, “Look, sorry! Just,” they shoved the Rose into his hands, “Hold onto this for a second. Sorry again!” With that, Ego ran off towards the fight. Sanguine looked on in astonishment.
Ego guesstimated the distance between them and the dragon, drawing their axe over their shoulder and Shouting “Wuld!” As they traveled they swung the weapon and planted it right into the dragon’s leg. They pulled it away just as the beast turned to swat at them, clipping Ego’s back with a claw as they attempted to dodge.
Serana stepped back from the group and concentrated, summoning a gargoyle to assist the party. It immediately sprung into action, leaping up to the dragon’s head and carving into it with red claws. The dragon backpedaled, attempting to shake off the gargoyle while the party pursued it. In an act of luck on the dragon’s part, the gargoyle slipped and was caught between the beast’s jaws, being bitten through and destroyed in an instant.
Miraak gave the dragon no time to reassess the field, sending a storm of Fire Breath into its face. The dragon roared and lifted into the air again, spraying Frost Breath at the party. Ego was left in its wake without cover, this time, getting pelted with small shards of ice. As the dragon left them for a moment, Erandur hurried over and casted a restoration spell on Ego, healing their external wounds. “What happened to Sanguine?” Erandur asked.
“He’s over there,” Ego gestured, glancing over to spot— “Oh!” They were surprised by the sight of two dremora warriors, fully clad with terrifying armor, one wielding a giant greatsword, the other a giant bow. The dremora were running to the group with eyes on the dragon, the bowman taking aim and firing upon the beast. Back in the brush, still, was Sanguine, hiding behind a tree and nervously waving to the group. The dremora were surely summoned by him.
“What’d you summon him for?” Erandur asked.
“To help,” Ego echoed the same sentiment from earlier.
“He’s not exactly Dagon,” Erandur snarked.
“He’s still a Prince!”
“He’s a drunkard.”
“Erandur,” Ego scolded. “He’s helping, look!” They gestured to the dremora before addressing them both, “Thank you, by the way.”
Neither of them responded.
Erandur sighed, jogging back to the focus of the group, “Just don’t let him pull you away, again.” Ego tailed him, glancing back at the Prince and giving him a thumbs up. Sanguine didn’t look so confident but smiled with his teeth all the same.
The dragon swooped down, diving as if to land but maintaining a frightening speed. The bowman dremora managed to get a shot in before the party realized that the dragon’s claws were out, and it intended to snatch up the party members. The majority of them hopped out of the way, but the bowman and Miraak were too slow to move. Miraak Shouted “Feim!”—Become Ethereal—just as the dragon’s feet hit him, moments away from getting smashed into the dirt and picked up into the air. The bowman wasn’t so lucky, dropping his weapon after the blow before his form fizzled and he returned to Oblivion.
Panic set into the party, now, watching as Miraak was lifted higher and higher into the air. He writhed in the claws that squeezed him through his ethereal form, trying to push his way out before ultimately using a Shout to do so. He used Cyclone, crying, “Ven… Gaar Nos!” and aimed it right at the beast’s ankle. It dispelled his ethereal nature but also twisted the dragon’s leg, forcing it to free Miraak. The Dragonborn began to fall, the river quick to catch him but not without pain, Miraak knew. He sharply inhaled and Shouted, “Feim!” once more, regaining his ghostly form. It taxed his lungs and energy to Shout so many times in a row, but at least the fall was painless as he crashed into the river.
Ego knew Miraak would be struggling to regain his energy after Shouting like that, and so ran with the current. Using all three words of Whirlwind Sprint, they managed to catch up to their older brother and wade into the water, taking his arm and pulling him up to the shoreline. By then, Miraak’s ethereal form had dissipated. He had a small coughing fit as he spit up water, and Ego casted a meager healing spell on him. “You alright?” they asked quickly.
“Yeah,” he huffed, still grasping onto Ego’s shoulder for support. The dragon roared overhead and both Dragonborn turned their gaze up to it. “Dammit, the thing needs to stay down,” Miraak cursed.
“Well, not a whole lot we can do about that.” They hit Miraak on the back, adding, “We’re in for the long fight.”
Miraak grumbled and began to move back towards the rest of the party. The Masquerade watched the dragon detour into the woods, and for a brief moment they thought it had left for good. “Coward!” Miraak called, personally angry, now.
And then, as if he’d tempted karma, the dragon reappeared with a whole tree in its grasp, laughing as it threw it down onto the party. The majority of the Masquerade swore as they lunged out of the way, all thankfully missing the bulk of the tree but managing to get whacked by branches as it crashed. Ego and Miraak were on the ground next to each other, scrambling to their feet. Ego punched their brother in the arm quite hard, telling him, “Would you keep your mouth shut?”
Miraak punched them back, “Would you?”
Everyone got out of the way of the thrown tree, eyes on the airborn dragon once again. The remaining dremora warrior was muttering something under his breath in a language none of them knew, seemingly cursing his situation. Unable to do much else, the group threw magic at the dragon once it got close enough.
After a few swoops and Frost Breath attacks, the beast landed once again. The group ran to it, finally able to land some worthwhile blows as it fought back against them. Erandur did a good number on the ice beast with his fire attacks, keeping his distance and aiming toward the dragon’s back as he shot fireballs at it. The dragon lost its balance due to the impacts, and responded with a mighty swip of the tail that caught Ego and Serana in its wake. They were thrown into the earth and tumbled over themselves, the Dragonborn quick to their feet while the vampire laid on her back for a moment and cursed in annoyance. While on the ground, she summoned another gargoyle and sent it towards the dragon.
The gargoyle was quick, running on all fours and lunging at the beast’s head, but the dragon knew this trick and pelted it with powerful frost. The gargoyle fizzled out in the blizzard before managing to land a hit. The dragon’s head was low as it tasted the last bits of frost on its tongue, and with its position came an opportunity for the dremora warrior. With a hefty overhead swing, he brought his giant blade down through the beast’s snout. The dragon was surprised by the strength harbored by the dremora and had to recover for a moment with a new gash across its nose. The warrior gave it no time, though, and followed his swing with an upward jab to the underside of the beast’s jaw. Clearly tired with its predicament, the beast raised its wings to take off.
Just before it could get its first flap in, though, the ground beneath it broke in multiple places, and from the earthly wounds rose giant trunks of wood, crimson in hue and sprouting with pink leaves and blossoms. They wrapped around the dragon’s neck, grabbing on and not letting go. Ego accidentally struck one of the branches as it appeared, blocking their hit. The dragon pushed its wings against the air and attempted to lift off, but the massive branches around its neck kept it in place. More of these rapidly-growing trees caught the beast’s body, pulling it to the earth.
As the dragon cried out, the group briefly looked around to find the cause of the strange happenings. Ego was the first to see Sanguine by the treeline, pulling at the air with his hands in-time with the way the branches moved. He had brought up the trees, Ego realized, not knowing he was capable of a feat like that. They cheered him on, “Woo, Sam!”
He flickered his gaze to the Dragonborn, giving a hearty smile before refocusing his attention on keeping the beast down.
Ego heard Erandur laugh with pride—probably the first time he’d done so in relevance to Sanguine. He then launched another fireball at the dragon’s back just as Miraak Shouted a storm of fire at the beast’s front. Both caused the branches to catch fire, adding extra damage to the beating that the dragon was already taking elsewhere. The dremora warrior hopped out of the way of a Frost Breath attack and struck the dragon’s eye with his blade, making the beast roar in pain and defiance. Ego managed to sprint over to the other side of the dragon’s head, striking its face with their axe. Eventually, the dragon let out one last cry before all movement ceased, and the fire blazed around it. The downed beast then began its signature process of burning up from the inside, matching the outside inferno.
Those who were close to the dragon stepped back, sighing a breath of relief as the battle drew to a close. Ego and Miraak quickly locked eyes on each other, and after a moment of glaring, both began to push at one another. They were fighting to see who could get closer to the dragon’s body without stepping foot in the flames; whoever was closest would snag the soul, after all. Miraak, being bigger and stronger than their sibling, grabbed Ego by the shoulders and tossed them back. Just as all the flesh of the dragon flaked away, the Last Dragonborn met the First with a hefty, “Fus… Ro!” It made Miraak stumble away but not far enough, and Ego groaned as they watched the soul fly to Miraak. “Ha!” the older of the two laughed.
“Asshat!” Ego got to their feet.
“You were too slow this time, Dragonborn,” Miraak pressed on with immense pride in his voice.
Ego didn’t bother to bite their tongue. Instead, they aimed their Voice at Miraak, and sent him into the river with Unrelenting Force. The thunderous clap was nicely matched with the sound of the First splashing into the water.
“Ego!” Erandur scolded, jogging over.
“He stole the soul!” The Dragonborn couldn’t help but laugh as they battled with the priest. “He’s fine.” They glanced back to the river, seeing Miraak’s head poking out of the water’s surface as he begrudgingly made his way back to land. Ego tauntingly called, “You alright?”
Miraak’s golden mask faced them just as he reached the bank, and from the water’s surface jutted a middle finger. Ego mischievously snickered while Erandur rolled his eyes. “Alright,” the priest began, changing the subject, “Who’s hurt?”
“Aye,” Serana called, trudging over with a half-relaxed expression. Erandur met with her and found her wounds, healing them over the best he could.
Ego took another breath as they looked at the dragon, sighing with relief to see the flames of the charred branches dying down. They caught the dremora in their sight; he was poking at one of the wing bones with his foot, examining the dead beast. Ego was about to call over to him before hearing footsteps running up behind them. Before they could even turn, they were snatched up and lifted from the ground into a tight hug. A breath and noise was forced out of them as they were squeezed, Sanguine chattering, “Holy shit! Ego, why in Oblivion would you do that?”
“Ugh—Sam!” they lightly punched his arms, signaling him to let up. Sanguine did so but still held onto them, not letting their feet touch the ground. “I mean, really? Why? Are you alright?” he queried.
“That’s sort of our job,” Ego chuckled, getting their breath back, “Dragonborn, and all.”
“That job fucking sucks,” he responded.
“Hey, but you’re pretty damned good at it!” the breton exclaimed. “I didn’t know you could bring trees up like that!”
“Trust me when I say that they’re usually only for scenery. That took a lot of concentration,” the Prince looked over at the dragon. “Woof… I haven’t seen that for a while.”
“Ego!” Erandur called from a short distance, “Tell him to put you down so I can heal you!”
“Oh, I can heal you,” Sanguine said to Ego, but with a bit of snark directed at Erandur. He asked, “Where are you hurt?

CH2: INFERNO UNATTENDED
The road was no more, just soft soil and enveloping greenery. Soft moon rays scattered across the lumps of grass and weeds. Trailing the trunks upward I was met by a colossal forest that stretched high enough to reach heaven with leaves branching outward creating this terra-formed shield against the night sky. Chirps and songs echoed in the distance of these twilight woodlands. Picking up my feet I pushed past the brush. Wasn’t long before the soil grew softer, the cold moisture licking at my ankles. I just know my loafers are gonna be ruined by the end of this. But I have to pull through! There has to be a clearing somewhere, although a road would be preferred. Yanking my feet free with each step, I began to leak my thoughts out into the open, not like anyone was near enough to hear me anyways.
“Great, the worst waking of my life then this guy decides to drop me off in the middle of nowhere…” Tartarus would’ve been more manageable. Was asking questions really that taboo? I just wanted to know what’s going on.
The songs continued like a congregation. However, no signs of a breeze. Rattling bushes and swaying plants were all my doing. Thankfully this heavenly all-natural scent barricaded me from the mundane whiff of mud. But the smell couldn’t stop me from thinking about it. I mean, how could I not? The suction that only felt like it pulled me deeper, the ring of sogginess that coated the ankles of my knee-high socks, and that lathered these school loafers I definitely paid too much for.
Squish. Slap. Plop. Squish. Slap. Plop. Squish. Crunch. Plop. Wait, crunch? I whipped my gaze down to my feet, it sounded like glass, should I investigate? I played it safe and moved my foot back to the spot, using the toe of my shoes to dig around. My ruined footwear sifting aside globs of slush. And then, I hit something. Aha! It’s surprisingly solid, was it not glass? Or maybe it didn’t shatter? The more and more I probed my mind for any possible matches only lead to heightened intrigue. So I decided to pick it up. I cautiously got down looking like a catcher at the base and attempted to grab it with my index and thumb. Gently tapping on the surface sludge with my fingertips.
The search ending rather quickly as my hand came into contact with cold, metallic grooves. Square tiles engraved on what I can assume to be a handle. I nabbed it, but it was too heavy for both of my fingers, so I completely fisted it. Damn it was hefty, nothing but a long thick tube. My hand barely wrapped around the thing. And yet, despite being buried, it was cold… colder than the air around me. Groping around the object I skimmed across a rubber bulge. Pressing down gave a satisfying click without anything happening. Must be a flashlight.
A quietness then shoved my heartbeat to the forefront, along with the faintest ringing due to long days of blasting music. Then my chest began to tighten, my breathing growing heavier by the second. I stared forward in an attempt to see something, anything. But poor moonlight cascading on dense shrubbery answered none of my questions.
At that moment air was forced out of me as a creeping bellow vibrated my bones. Like standing amongst the clouds as lightning struck. But there was no clap, only the rumble. A roar so silent you could only feel it. The brush shook in front of me. My lungs felt like they were going to collapse. My feet on the verge of shattering. An earthquake harnessed by a being that hid from me. I shuddered as another snarl rang out, this time more powerful than the first. Was it getting closer? It had to be. Any possible words or whimpers were trapped in my throat almost as though the vibrations themselves pushed them back into my lungs.
I turned to run but the soil responded with a spurt and squish. My feet cemented. How could I let this happen? Had I stood still for that long? Was this it? So quickly? Another journey brought to such an abrupt ending? I wish someone, anyone was here with me. It’s times like this that I’d even appreciate being around that weird cab driver again. My heart sank further into my feet. Refusing to emancipate itself. My fingers increasingly became colder as my hands clenched the flashlight to my chest. I shyly reel back, turning my gaze inward as I forced my eyes shut. In a last-ditch effort to fight back, I called to her but felt nothing. That umbilical cord… severed without my knowing. For the first time since transferring, I was truly alone.
Now, the ground remained still. Was it gone? I doubt it. I dart my eyes and only my eyes around the woods with the utmost deliberation, making sure I didn’t move so much as a millimeter. If my breaths became any more jagged I’d be choking. Was I even still breathing? No, that sound. It’s. Not. Me. A faint whistling squeals as the air is pulled smoothly through flesh. It’s still there.
A warmth streaked down my cheek, then the other cheek, the streams collecting at my chin. I had to do something, but who knew how fast or smart this thing was? What if there were more out there? What if it was just toying with me? Hunting, instilling fear before the strike. But not me, even if I fail I still have to try! With one swift motion, I yanked myself from the gooey confines and turned tail, dashing into the thicket. Arms raised to keep branches and leaves from my face. Hopefully, the thing is big enough that I can lose it through the dense shrubbery. My form quickly molding into that of an American football player pushing past his opponents. Shuffling leaves and cracking twigs followed far behind me. Becoming fainter with each step.
What seemed like hours was most likely minutes, my adrenaline running out and my heart returning to normal. Even so, I fled onward, hoping to place as much distance between me and that thing.
Through my raised arms I saw a spec of orange flicker. I charged past the leaves in this never-ending jungle. This burning orb, obstructed by kilometers of unforgiving vegetation, became the only sign I was moving. Even after carrying on for this long, the songs of the forest refused to return.
However, I had finally reached the light source. Cowering behind the last few branches protecting me from any further surprises. Aside from the blinding glow, snaps and pops flew about like shoes over dried leaves. As I peeked over the bush, I saw a massive log with a haphazardly draped white cover, like a crazed murderer obscuring a body. Flames erupting from the mound's outline. Taking a few whiffs, the smoke emitted no scents of that iconic stain-your-clothes tang of burning wood; instead, smelling more like a box full of candy being poured onto scolding coals. Despite that a tinge lingered, a nauseating sourness permeated itself when I stepped from the leaves. What type of wood is this? Further intrigue forced me in front of the cover as I slid and knelt. Not wanting to dirty my hands I clasped the tarp with a couple of fingers and lifted it.
“Gah!!!” Horror overcame me, shooting me to my feet. My flashlight plunging into the soil as I zipped the clean hand to my mouth. It was a person. It was a person. That short glimpse left a permanent scar, every blink reminding me of a completely charred corpse. Their skin left as dark as tonight and coarse with chunks of hardened flesh ready to chip away. The skin melded, perfectly sunk into every crease of the skull, mouth agape still swallowing the abyss. Eyes missing entirely, although some strange fleshy trail leaving the sockets. Were these remnants of the optic nerve? Could the eyes have been removed after death? Whatever did this probably heard me scream. I should get out of here. Then again what if it’s scared of the fire? But you don't know what type of beast this is, it could be fire-breathing. Then why is it covered?
If someone was here, they’d want to cover the body, burn it even. Perhaps a proper burial? Doesn’t excuse the missing eyes though, optic nerves should still be in the socket not flopped outward. What about the beast? Does it feast on its prey's eyes? How does it kill the victim? Maybe I’ll be tortured! Ripped apart! What if they were just an appetizer? Who knows what’s actually out there?  But what to do? Run and risk being found? Stay and risk it all? Or maybe… the beast wasn’t responsible? Could someone be roaming the forest?
A squelch gave away the position of whatever was behind me. I couldn’t believe how quickly I leaped from the sound. The flames licking at my soaked loafers before I landed on the other side of the body. This time an audible snarl escaped the darkness, sounding like a demented lion. Finally! Something tangible! It treaded from the greenery, dark liquid oozing from its snout. It was a hound that stood before me, the fire being our only barrier. I couldn’t take my eyes off it. Jagged teeth poured from every possible angle, new teeth climbing over the other desperately holding on as older teeth occasionally plopped onto the mud. Not just the mouth but wherever they could grow they did. Missing flesh pockets that exposed infected muscle were infested with sharp teeth as if the entire creature could eat everything at every angle. Goosebumps rushed all over me, continuous shivers running up and down my spine. I so desperately wanted to avert my gaze, but eye contact is the main way to hold predators. Even if its eyes were absent, purely socket, teeth harboring, puss drooling… gotta maintain visual contact. The closer it strides to the flames the more it flicks its nose in the air. Solely using its nose to see? Sure the eyes were missing but after an entire school year fighting literal manifestations of the human psyche, anything is possible at this point. I stood still, continuing the stare down.
It neared my last location, caressing the soil with the tip of its nose. Prodding the terrain before suddenly rearing its head back, a piece of rock had been lodged in its nostril. Flailing frantically it finally arched its back as a horrible sneeze rang out, firing not only the pebble but a few teeth from the nostril. I scrunched my expression, feeling my lunch trying to escape. Then it dawned on me that I would have been pounced on had I not fled the way I did. Hopefully, that thing is strictly using scent. If so, maybe I can distract it. With the speed of a tardigrade, my hands crept to my collar, unraveling my bow with the utmost precision.
Then! The worst possible outcome, it began roaming, closer and closer. Prowling around the fire, waving its nose searching for me. With trembling hands, I fumbled over the untying aspect of my plan. I took the best fighting stance I could with my current footing. I should be able to take this thing on.
Thump! Eh? Something hit the floor. Looking at the demon’s paws I was answered immediately. Its entire bottom jaw lays before us. Even the thing seemed confused, for the first time in a while I shared a moment with a creature that wasn’t of my world. Wham! I clocked the damned at its side, ripping its head clean off as it flew into the blaze. Teeth and chunks of skin stuck to my shoe. My next swing was interrupted as an ear-piercing whine bellowed from the fire. The head collapsed into ash. Reexamining the headless hound, it plopped lifelessly onto the mud. “Thank goodness…” I hunched, placing my palms on my knees.
And despite it all. Another noise stabbed through the dead air. This time a faint ringing in the distance that resembled a phone. Patting my sides, nothing. Then at my around my torso and shoulders, MP3 player is gone too. The tone directed me to my left. With each cautious footstep, I tip-toed closer to the origin of the melody. Lifting the leaf curtain was I greeted by a retro telephone booth sitting in a clearing the size of a small room. I knew it was because its ceiling bulb highlighted itself in contrast to the jungle of darkness. Upon further examination, this was a classic booth you see all over movies taking place in New York. However, this one sat on top of a concrete block that leveled with the surface of the surrounding mud. I stood still. Surveying my surroundings once again. Nothing but the telephone. Watching as the phone jangled in its two-pronged holster. I hesitantly approached, trudging through the ankle-deep sludge. Intrigue guided my hand along its metallic frame as soon as I reached it. It was winter cold. My palm had left a blot as the thin layer of condensation clung to my skin. Continuing around this anomaly I got to the door on the other side, already collapsed against one of the walls as if anticipating someone’s arrival. Grasping a lip in the doorway I hoisted myself into the booth. The ringing ended almost immediately.
By now I no longer felt like I was welcome. This horrible feeling of dread overcame any doubt in my mind. As if stepping into the employee section of a building. Or realizing you’ve entered a restricted area. Like someone was gonna throw me to the ground and demand what I saw.
“Hey!” A whisper rose from the air. My body seized all movement before whipping my head in every direction. Only to realize it was the phone. “C’mon! I know you’re there.”
Clearing my throat I outstretched my hand, scooped out the telephone, and rested the speaker on my ear. “Hello?”
“Ah don’t be like that… you know who it is.” The voice was up front, it sounded masculine. He spoke as if he has just woken up or had spent the whole night awake.
“Erm, I’m almost positive I don’t.” Was all I could muster.
“Oh…” He sighed. “I see.”

Leather Goods Market Driving Factors
The industry's rapid digital change and the quantity of new product launches have led to an increase in demand for luxury products in recent years. One major driver of growth is the emerging Leather Goods Market, which encompasses developing nations like India. The worldwide market is also being driven by the increasing usage of original natural leather in fashion shows and by designers, as well as the growing popularity of this luxury good. For example, Dior unveiled their Cruize 2023 collection in October 2022, which featured leather goods and accessories that mixed contemporary Dior designs with the traditional Andalusian attitude. Because it is convenient, the e-commerce sales channel for luxury items has greatly increased revenue.
The market for leather goods is being driven by the many benefits of synthetic leather items, particularly their robust and affordable design.
Global consumers are being persuaded to purchase leather goods produced ethically and responsibly by growing awareness of cruelty-free and environmentally friendly solutions.
Synthetic leather's growing use in the apparel, automotive, and furniture industries is driving market expansion.

Retail Expansion of Leather Goods
The growth of retail establishments, including physical storefronts and online platforms, broadens the market reach and enables leather products producers to access new areas and demographics. Additionally, retail growth increases customer involvement and brand exposure through targeted marketing campaigns and customized shopping experiences. Strategic retail growth also helps businesses increase their Leather Goods Market share, improve product availability, and fortify their distribution networks. All things considered, increasing store space is essential to boosting demand for leather items and increasing sales, which supports the market's steady rise.
Increasing Awareness of Environmental Concerns

Lack of Leather Products: The world is experiencing a lack of leather products, which is driving up the price of leather. Low-cost vendors that make leather from exotic animals like pythons and alligators are sought after by European buyers. In 2016, for example, the fashion industry in Europe accounted for 96% of the market for python skin, with the primary importers being France, Spain, and Italy, according to Humane Society International.
Leather Goods Market Restraint: Negative Impact of Leather Production on the Environment
Decreased demand for leather products is a result of sustainability problems with leather derived from animal hides and skins, including gas emissions, water waste, and deforestation.
inadequate understanding of consumer tastes and buying habits.
One of the challenges facing high-value leather items is the growing demand for reasonably priced, high-quality leather goods.
In Conclusion,
