this is so so so small compared to how it is for other people. like i gotta be clear it is nothing. but man sometimes it's just so demeaning to start looking for orders on uber eats and have to repeatedly reject $3 offers that take like half an hour. there's just so many of them. doordash is a fair bit better but i get like, a fraction of the offers, and i only have so much time to slot in a delivery. but it's just miserable sometimes to eventually give in. fine, i'll drive 25 minutes on the highway to drop off some donuts. fine, i'll take the 15 dollars, because it's better, even though it'll take me over an hour round trip, it'll exhaust me, and that's technically less than minimum wage here. i get paid 20 bucks for a 40 minute shift as a crossing guard. showing up for a dropoff and the app only tells me After i've tried to mark it as delivered that i need to get the PIN for some reason. having to go back and do the shameful "i'm sorry, but it says i need a PIN before i can mark it as delivered" and it's not like they're ever mean about it but. my boss is a phone. my boss if a phone and i constantly have to be tracked, and constantly have to prove to it that i'm doing what it asks. it withholds basic information, like what kind of building i'll be dropping this off at, until i've proven i picked up the order. all of the uber eats orders i take end up below minimum wage and i just take them because i hope i'll get tipped. yesterday i had to go up 22 flights on the elevator and the app didn't account for the several minutes extra time that would take, and it ended up late. today i got home exhausted and with a stomach ache and donut lady tipped me 7 dollars and i nearly cried because god at least she appreciated it
