Kira has a nightmare, one night when she's staying at the O'Brien's. Miles and Keiko, sleeping in the other room, don't hear her get up - but Molly does.

And Molly, being clever and kind, knows exactly what to do when someone has a nightmare. (Or, at least, she knows what her parents always do for her.) So she sits Kira down and brings her a glass of warm milk, and sits by her side as she drinks it.

Then, she takes Kira by the hand and leads her - to her parents bedroom. "I always sleep with mommy and daddy after a nightmare," she explains, when Kira stops outside the door. "It helps! Mommy chases the scary things away. And Daddy is warm."

"Molly," Kira says quietly, a little embarrassed, "I don't think your parents want me in their bed. Even if I did have a nightmare."

"No, they won't mind!" Molly assures.

Then, of course, Miles wakes up.

"Molly?" he asks, voice rough with sleep. "Did you have a nightmare?"

"No, but Miss Kira did!"

And now Keiko's awake, too, sitting up and saying, "Nerys? Are you alright?"

Mortified, Kira says, "Yes, I'm fine, I was just - on my way back to bed. Molly brought me here. I'm - sorry for waking you. I'll just be-"

"You can stay, if you want," Miles offers.

Kira doesn't quite think she heard him right. "What?"

"You can sleep here, if you think it might help," Keiko says.

"Or even if you don't!" Miles adds.

Kira opens her mouth, then closes it again. "I, uh-"

Keiko gets up, and takes Kira, gently, by the hand. Her palm is soft, Kira can't help but notice.

"Brr, it's freezing out here!" Keiko says, tugging Kira along. "You'd better get in before you catch your death of cold. Miles is practically a furnace, so you'll be nice and warm with us."

"And, Molly, you'd best go back to bed, too. You've got school in the morning," Miles says, as Keiko bundles Kira into the bed between them.

As Molly makes her way out, Keiko swings a lazy arm over Kira's back. "Sleep," she hums. "We'll be here in the morning."

Kira, feeling warm and cared for and more than a little overwhelmed, does.

these guys!! i haven’t posted abt them for a while but was thinking abt my snow queen retelling again so i have been redesigning kain because i didn’t feel like the old design conveyed his personality and general vibe well enough + also this one is more fun to draw and has more visual interest. so ofc i had to add glory because they are besties and i needed to see if they looked good next to each other. i think it’s mostly working! they have strongly contrasting designs on purpose but they have enough similar elements that they don’t feel too alien to each other. and then finishing with mask on + hood up designs for kain because that’s usually how he appears unless he’s more relaxed

went back and retconned the twins' parents' names because it's pretty limiting to have unnamed characters in any fic, and i got sick of writing "the kids' parents" everytime one of the grunkles refers to them.

that and i've recently thought up a headcanon that hasn't left my mind since it was thrust upon me. dipper and mabel's mom's name is mary, and that's why she was so keen on dressing baby dipper up as a lamb and making him do the "lamby, lamby dance."

Sanji has the finest gaydar for trans people. I am so sure about that. Especially when it comes to trans girls because he would definitely say something like "You don't need to tell me to know you have the soul of a woman" or some cheesy, gentleman thing like that. If he can have a mellorine detector I am 100% sure he knows when he's in front of a woman even if the girl hasn't even come out yet.

He just knows something's like, different about Yonji and she's having a whole gender crisis while WCI happens and Sanji can't fight her. Like- It doesn't feel right to do so. And he knows she's hiding something and she's suffering and he has seen this before but he doesn't even go there. It's not his problem and he will not help the one who hurt him. So not fighting her is alright, but he's not going to help her either.

Eventually, he ends up finding out, either thanks to Reiju or because Yonji has said some very suspicious things that make it obvious she's a girl. And it just kills me to think about Yonji having a whole breakdown mid-fight with Sanji because Sanji refuses to fight her and Yonji doesn't want him to just-- Not fight back? That's no fun! She wants him to get angry at her and do something! But Sanji won't move and only tries to dodge her attacks.

Sanji might still never forgive her for what she did to him, but he could never let a woman suffer in this hell. So... You know. Thoughts about helping Yonji get to Momoiro Island or something so that way she can be herself and free!!

in awe over the fact that community truly knows how to pack a punch. in season 3, episode 17, “basic lupine urology”, the show once again makes a parody, just like it has for the past three seasons. the entire episode is law and order based, and it every single joke is seamlessly written and performed, like genuinely the whole thing is perfect. the serious tone of law and order, coupled with the absurdity of the show, it works so well! by the end of the episode, despite the jokes, and despite the parody, the show manages to create a tone that is far more sombre and dramatic than most episodes so far. when the call about star burns’ (his name is alex) death comes in, it feels surreal, it feels genuinely heartbreaking, and it feels utterly different than the rest of the show.

they used the entire sombre setup, despite it being parodical, to force their last line to pack a ginormous punch. of course, the end credits scene show that the cast is back to their usual shenanigans, effectively breaking the soap-opera esque episode that they had just aired. it’s their way of saying “hey friends, thanks for watching, here’s a cookie”. and i eat that shit up every time!!

by the time they craft another parody of a serious crime related media, they manage to do the exact same thing over a season later while still making it fresh and new. in season 5, episode 3, “basic intergluteal numismatics”, they opt for a parody of david fincher’s “seven”, and if i’m being real here, i know next to nothing about the film other than its general premise. however, they still manage to use the same formula, while accomplishing something brand new. here, they use the sombre and serious tone to once again deliver bad news in a way that packs a punch. it’s their way of saying “we’re a comedy show, but we can go toe to toe with all the academy award winners if we so please”. but this time, they follow through on the storyline introduced in basic lupine urology: star burns. he’s alive and well, and they incorporate him seamlessly back into the show as if he never left. they set up his death perfectly, then use his death to set up arguably the biggest storyline in the series, before resolving it with what is simultaneously the most serious and the most silly resolution possible. then, just when you are comfortable in the show’s parody seriousness, they do it again! they lure you into a false sense of security and introduce another major character death without it feeling like a cliche or a repeat scenario.

Tonight I watched Poirot Season 1, Episode 7: "Problem at Sea," and almost immediately recognized Colin Higgins, who I know as Mr. Morecambe from the 1987 miniseries adaptation of Dorothy L. Sayers' Have His Carcase. I immediately made the connection that the episode also contained two characters named Mr. and Mrs. Tolliver, and of course "Tilly Tolliver" was Mrs. Morecambe's stage name in HHC. I thought the actor playing Mr. Tolliver also looked familiar, so I looked him up as well....and found out he was played by Geoffrey Beevers, who I was recognizing because he played Ryland Vaughn in the 1987 Strong Poison. I also noticed that Mrs. Tolliver was played by Caroline John, his real-life wife...who also played Miss Burrows in Gaudy Night.
