Tyrant of the Laundry Room
Part of the Heart Pirates X reader series: Sanctity of Sacred Space
Laundry duty was your favorite. Though your nakama couldn’t agree.
To say you quite liked laundry duty was an understatement.
Always the first to sign up, taking the worst shifts or the day with the heaviest load, never a complaint coming from you except for the crew to take care of their clothes more.
As often as you could, you’d swap laundry duty with anyone willing on the crew. It had gotten bad enough at a certain point until Law had banned anybody from swapping laundry duty with you for a month until the redness on your hands died down. After that, he had imposed a strict limitation of how many times a certain chore could be done until the rota refreshed.
The rest of the crew never quite understood your fervor for this particular chore, as to many, this was down at the bottom of the list on how much they wanted to do it, alongside dish duty. Shachi had—the third time you asked to swap with him—grabbed you by the shoulders and peered deep into your eyes through his shades to ask if you were okay. He couldn’t believe that you simply just wanted to.
But the reason was simple.
Your passion as a tailor did not just simply end at making and fixing clothes. It extended into their care and upkeep. You knew the best way to cut linen, the specific direction it needed to reduce shrinkage in the long run. You knew how to remove all manner of stains, and you meant it. Not even the discolorations on Shachi’s hat stood a chance when you got your hands on it.
It was the first thing you chose to learn after he died, the world opening up at your fingertips without the pressure of what you had to do. Your experience with a gun meant blood often found itself at home on your things and he didn’t care enough about appearances to bother keeping things stain-free. So as an act of rebellion, the first thing you did was to learn about clothes. The seamstresses and launderers at your old village were thrilled to have a fresh face so interested in their trade, and wasted no time in teaching you everything they knew. What that man forced you to be, and what those ladies taught you, were the only relic you had of your childhood.
And laundry duty was the one chance where you got to stretch out this knowledge and allow yourself a chance to shine.
Though, that passion tended to be a bit overbearing for those who worked with you.
“Shachi, you don’t crank the heat all the way up for those!”
Crossing the space, you shoved yourself into the redhead’s space as you fiddled with the controls on the machines.
“You’re lucky that I caught this in time, you idiot!”
“But doesn’t turning it up make them dry faster??”
“NOT LIKE THIS!” Your screech echoed through the room. “We have fragile polyester-based stuff in there! You’re going to melt them!”
“It can’t be that bad, right?!?”
“HOW ABOUT I MELT YOUR SHADES FOR YOU TO FIND OUT?!?”
The screaming echoed through even the halls, those lucky enough to escape laundry duty with you chuckling at Shachi’s misfortune. You ran laundry day with a militant fist, hunting down those who forgot their clothes with a dogged focus. It was terrifying to get in your way, and even more terrifying to be stuck working the shift with you. No matter how much you begged, Law refused to let you shoulder the burden of washing everything by yourself. It was a well-known fact by now that your standards were hellish to meet, and you did not go gentle on those who failed (save Bepo and Law).
But at the end of the day, when the Heart Pirates received their laundry back, delightfully warm and cleaner than they’ve ever been before you arrived, they were glad that their beloved tailor cared so much.

Thinking of Ludwig slowly becoming a yandere after being in a relationship with his s/o for years and s/o just accepts it because they love him so much. They take every punishment he gives, and feel torn between wanting to escape but they love him too much to leave. They’re timid around him and he takes advantage of that, teasing them for his own pleasure- that’s what I’m thinking about 😅
Hello there you beautiful human. Thanks for waiting in purgatory for your ask to be answered. I hope it satisfies you ✨
Gonna put the warning here : Totally touches on things like toxic relationships that are abusive so if that’s triggering for you then yeaaaah skip this one.
How you first encountered Ludwig:
You were having a blast at a small German town's annual summer festival. You’d gotten separated from your friend group as you spotted some fancy Deutsch wine crafted by a family doing it for over 200 years. You hadn’t realized that you were pretty drunk when you’d bumped into the German General & spilled your cherry red wine all over him as you took a tumble to the ground.
“Oh Sheibe! Es tut mir leid! Ich kann diesen Kleidung sauber helfen.” Panicked, you pulled out many napkins and water bottles to assist him with removing the stain. Ludwig may have been annoyed but became relaxed & spellbound by your beautiful face, perfectly framed by your freshly trimmed hair.
‘Humph. Well, at least they’re remorseful.’
“Es ist okay. I have dry cleaners I can drop this uniform off at and more to wear, but…” Ludwig reached into his back pocket to pull out his business card.
“If you’re around in Berlin & want to get the best Wurst in all of Germany, call or text me. Ciao”
[He learned his rizz from Italy.]
The first date was a smooth yet fantastical affair. The two of you dawdled through the sprawling city of Berlin. From the Brandenburg gate to the TV tower, & down to the River Spree. You got to be fully immersed in the capital city of Deutschland by none other than its resolute representative, Ludwig Belischmidt.
You were dazzled by all the history he knew of, down to tiny details you knew couldn’t be found in a surface-level history textbook. Your admiration of him, combined with your cute face & intellect, make it much easier for Ludwig to catch feelings.
As the two of you moved past the honeymoon phase and into the waves of a long-term relationship, you began to notice subtle changes in Ludwig.
He wouldn’t complement or encourage you as much. Instead, his adoration would be criticism or telling you whatever you accomplished wasn’t good enough / didn’t meet his skyscraper-high standards. This breaks down your self-esteem, so you’ll doubt yourself more. Ludwig will want you always to be pining for his approval.
When you do something that significantly displeases him, he will have you do something that will physically break you down. Ludwig is like a loving but stringent drill sergeant. Here is a short list of things you’ll have to do in order to get back into his good graces:
50 Push-Ups
100 Jumping Jacks
Hold the ‘T’ pose for 30 minutes to an hour
Planks
5 to 15-mile runs (depending on how Sadistic he’s feeling, if someone tried to get close to you, and your level of non-compliance will depend on how long you’ll have to run for)
These are all things that will exhaust you and prevent you from wanting to talk back, argue with him, etc. This rigorous training also mitigates 80%-85% of your free time to socialize with others.
Ludwig does his best to avoid putting his hands on you because you’re a human. You’re incredibly fragile. You weren’t meant to withstand him at his maximum strength. However, when you cross him, he has a leather belt to put you back in your place. For the most part, it's not something he takes great pride in, but he needs to keep you under control. He’s realized over the years that once you’ve become emotionally attached to him, he could get away with more & more problematic behavior. All he had to do was hit you with the line: “Es tut mir leid, Liebling. I had to. It was for your own good. I’ll make it up to you.” Ludwig will give you a chastised kiss on the forehead. This gesture never failed to make you turn bright red and send butterflies pouring through your guts. Your heart would sprint due to feeling the adrenaline that comes from being in love. However, your nerves would be feeling a dry stick rubbing against them gaining friction that produced a thick smoke.
Your typical response to his apology would be followed up by a brief:
“Kein problem. I forgive you, Ludwig.”
Even though Ludwigs' smile touched your skin like an early morning Fall sunray heating up your chilly skin, the glaring truth about him and his progressively toxic tendencies became far more difficult to ignore as time continued.
You evaded his gaze this time when you accepted his apology. You wondered how many times he’s said that to you now.
‘But all relationships are like this. I shouldn’t have upset him in the first place.’ This was one of the many rationalizations that you told yourself.
You often wondered how many more times you’d hear him say “sorry” when you cried out for him to “stop” or say “Ludwig, please! It was just a mistake!!!” As more lashes came swinging through the air & made the all too familiar crack against your soft skin. It never failed to vivid crimson 4-inch whiplash there.
‘Is my relationship with Ludwig actually normal, though?’ Came the uncomfortable question that came to your mind every now & again. It normally materialized after you’d faced another grueling punishment of military-style exercise, a lashing, being denied access to friends, fun, and family, a disagreement, etc. You longed not to have to walk in a minefield of broken glass, eggshells, & razors when navigating conversations with him.
“Y/N?” Ludwig says sternly with a touch of concern. Your lack of eye contact with him when accepting his apology was a subtle signal to him that he had to go all out when he planned your latest couples' make-up trip. It had to be something spectacular.
“Yes?” You say in an exhausted tone that was weighed down by the conflict between your heart and your head. You continued to stare at the concrete of the garage.
“Where do you want to go for dinner?”
Ludwig would ignore your gradually growing frigid demeanor since you’d been together for such a long time.
‘It’s just a rough patch. They’ll get over their hesitations soon enough. A well-planned and thought-out day always wins Y/N back.’
This is what Ludwig tells himself in order to keep up the delusion that he’s doing nothing wrong and that your relationship is normal. It’s always been this way.
Why would it be any different now?
A vacation was the only thing Ludwig needed to get the two of you back on track.
Usually, Ludwig relished in silence, but not when you refrained to talking to him at all. You would at least give a few compliments about something or try to start a conversation. Only having spoken the basic pleasantries of “Guten Morgen” or “Guten Nacht” with no attempt at speaking more did make him feel uneasy. But not enough to make him rethink where he was going next.
“Y/N, while planning our trip, I thought we could do something far more exciting.” You stopped staring at your food to move your eyes up to meet his. “We’re going to climb up Watzmann.” Ludwig knew damn well you hated heights.
“And …..why, for the love of God, would you think I’d enjoy that?” Not being able to hold back your disbelief and irritation.
“Well, all that training you’ve done. It’s time to test your mettle Y/N! You can’t let all of my hard work go to waste!” Utterly oblivious to the fuse he’s just ignited.
The tense and uncomfortable silence choked any peace out of the atmosphere. It stayed that way for 90 seconds as the sparks set off the bomb. Its flames made its way through your veins.
This was not what real love looked like. You pushed your plate away & slammed your fork and knife onto it. Your reaction hit Ludwig like a lightning bolt.
“I'm seriously done with you, Ludwig!”
With that, you went back to your hotel room in a huff. Some people stared silently at Ludwig, and others watched you march away.
You never turned back.

Domestic engineer tales - daily cleaning routine
Hey girlies,
as we all know - I'm a proud domestic engineer (aka SAHGF) and while this life is very soft I still have responsibilities. One of them is cleaning.
I grew up with a mother that wasn't about cleaning all the time. Sure, the basics were always done but she wasn't bothered if some pet hair was on the couch or if the kitchen wasn't cleaned until the next day.
Well, my bf is the direct opposite. He hates dirt, dust, stains, pet hair and the list goes on. Basically - he wants our apartment to look like nobody lives there. He's a perfectionist and he can't relax if he suspects the apartment is not clean. That's when I enter the game - it's my task to tidy the apartment every day, so he can come home and simply relax.
I'm not going to lie - it was really rough in the beginning because it seems like this man can smell a faint stain on a towel ten miles away.
Realize that maintenance is key!
It took some time for me to realize this. Just trust me - it's way easier to clean just a little bit every day than to spend hours cleaning once a week.
1. vacuuming
My first step is always vacuuming the whole apartment. I need roughly 30-45 min to thoroughly vacuum the apartment. My holy grail tip is to invest in a wireless vacuum cleaner. It doesn't have to be the newest dyson! In fact, bf and I have three vacuum cleaners: two dysons, one of them wireless and one Phillips, and I absolutely prefer the Philipps one over both the dysons.
2. dusting
I hate dust. It makes my nose itch and my eyes water - so there is a strong no dust policy in my home! I just grab an good old swiffer and simply dust off all my counters and all the surfaces in the apartment.
3. disinfect
I blame the pandemic for my urge to disinfect everything. I love sagrotan cleaning wipes and I always buy them in bulk when they're on sale. I wipe down my kitchen counters and every other surface in the apartment. I've been doing this for a few months now and I don't see any damage on our furniture that could be caused by the wipes.
I also wipe down my bathrooms - my sink, the water taps and the complete toilet. I also spray down the toilet and my door handles with disinfectantspray for extra protection.
4. polishing
We have quite a few glass surfaces that need to be polished every day because they tend to get grease stains very easily. I take a microfiber towel and a cotton towel and spray those surfaces with a special glass cleaner, rub it in with the microfiber towel and dry with the cotton towel for a streak free finish.
5. couch vacuuming
It was not the best decision to get two white/grey coated cats with long and fine hair while still having a black couch. You. can. see. every. single. hair. I'm very happy that our Philipps vacuum comes with a special attachment for pet hair removal. I use it on both of our couches and the attachment works like a charm. No more hairs!
6. making sure it smells good
A good smelling apartment is mandatory for me because I believe that a good smelling apartment makes living way more enjoyable.
I make sure to clean the cats' litterboxes frequently - I try to scoop the litter out immediately after they finished their business. Nothing is worse than the smell of cat shit or piss and I know way to many people that have their whole apartment smell like their cats litterbox because they neglect cleaning it.
I also spritz our couch and our carpets down with some Febreeze golden orchid cushion cleaner. It smells heavenly and the smell stays for hours! It's also pet safe, so don't worry.
Last but not least - candles. I like to light some scented candles in different rooms of the apartment to make sure that it smells nice everywhere. My current favorites are the yankee candles in vanilla cupcake and sunny daydream!
It takes me around 3hours daily to finish cleaning the apartment and that's only maintenance.
I deep clean different rooms on different days during the week. My daily tasks also include loading and unloading the dish washer, doing laundry, cooking and cleaning the kitchen after cooking.
lots of love
Selene

Chapter Five
After a morning of frantic creativity in the studio, I head down to the shop with a head buzzing with thoughts of Christmas motifs. Petra is comparatively calm, sitting behind the till reading a crochet magazine in her lap and drinking a hot chocolate from one of the sachets she keeps in a drawer with the excess breast shaped candles. “Oh hello.” She says serenely. “Have you come to do the window?”
“I have.” I go into the storage closet next to the employee bathroom and start yanking bits of blue roll off the holder, wrestling my way through the clutter and piles of empty postal boxes for a squeegee and a bottle of industrial window cleaner.
“I can’t wait to see how it turns out.” She flips the page while I start spraying the window and buffing off the dirt and streaks. It’s a smaller window than the café I worked on back home, but tenfold more intimidating, seeing that this is an actual art shop with actual artists working upstairs who will no doubt notice things like crooked ‘o’s or asymmetrical ‘m’s. Recalling the mistakes I made the last time, I first sketch an outline on the outside of the window. The sun is hot on my hair.
The muscles in my arms ache from the gym as badly as I expected they would. As I work I silently curse Shane Healy and his wicked exercise regime, and every time I lift a paint pen to the glass and my biceps groan I curse him harder. I am tired too, my eyes feel dry and heavy after a poor night’s sleep, tossing and turning in my bed with a head whirring with thoughts of Izzy’s gig. I think about it now too. Of Jen especially, and how different she was, but of Jude too, and the strange rift between them. I can’t help but recall all of those little details like the purple skin under his eyes, the nicotine stains on his fingers. Jen’s thin body, the vacancy in her stare. It was freaky to see them both like that, to witness their distance when all I’ve ever known of them was their closeness.
I start sketching out the lettering for ‘mezzotint’. I have a design in an open notebook at my feet, and I refer back to it again and again, trying my best to mark out the shapes as symmetrically as possible. It starts off well. I’m careful, I’m precise, and I realise that focussing as hard as I can upon the task makes it harder for me to dwell on other thoughts. I don’t notice the time passing me by, the shadows moving across the pavement, I even drown out the sound of the tram as it passes, and it’s just me and this window and these pens and…
“Um, hello?” I get such a fright that my marker slips across the window, sending a slash of white through my meticulous lettering. “Shit.”
“Fuck, sorry.” It’s Jude. He’s reaching for a damp cloth so he can help me to erase it. I never even heard him coming.
“Oh, God, Jude, don’t worry about it, it’s just the guide.”
He pulls the cloth over his finger and uses the flat edge of his fingernail to carefully remove the offending mark from where it cuts right through one of the Zs. “Sorry I scared you, I was trying to catch your attention from across the street for like, a minute. I thought you’d heard me.”
“It’s okay, honestly.” I take his wrist and lift the cloth out of his hand. “I’ll fix it later. Like I said, this is just the guide bit. I’ll erase it later anyway.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I’m sure, it’s fine, it’s just a stupid white line, nothing to get upset about.”
He looks up at the window. “It’s looking good though.”
“You think?”
“I do.” He smiles at me. “Nice job. I’m glad I caught you in time for lunch.”
“It’s lunch?”
“Yeah it’s like five past one.”
“Oh.” I frown. “I swear to God, sometimes I seem to just switch my brain off when I’m working.”
“I know the feeling. Do you have time to get food? If not it’s totally fine, I probably should have texted you or something, I couldn’t remember if we actually made a plan to get lunch or if I just ended up being vague with you.”
I smirk as I start bundling up my art supplies. “You asked me if I take lunch, and then you walked away.” After brushing my cheek with his thumb in a way that made my stomach bottom out, but I don’t bring that part up.
“Ah, sounds like me.” He holds the door for me as I carry my things into the shop. “If you’re not free it’s fine, by the way, I can get lost.”
“No, we can get lunch.” I smile at Petra who is eating a sandwich at the till, and we give each other a quick wave as I leave my supplies on the floor and head back outside. “Where’s Astrid today? Are you meeting her after lunch to do the big tourist round of Dublin?”
“Ah.” He says as we fall into step next to each other. “She’s not feeling well. She doesn’t want to do anything today.”
“That’s a shame.”
“Mm.”
“Do you think you’ll go tomorrow?”
“I’m not sure, she, well, she kind of wants to just go back to Berlin at the moment, I’m trying to convince her to stay for the rest of the week but-” He shrugs. “I dunno. We’ll see how it goes.”
“Not a fan of Dublin City?”
“Something like that, maybe.”
“I don’t blame her.” The Liffey still stinks as we cross it. A man leans over the railings and hawks up a mouthful of spit to launch into it. I shudder. “It’d be a pity to cut the holiday short all the same.”
“I’d bring her back to Berlin if I could, it’s just with the things I have to do…”
“That family stuff you mentioned?”
“Yeah. My mom is away on business this week, she needs someone to take care of Ivy. Like, bring her to school, cook dinner, laundry, all of that stuff.”
“Oh, damn. Is your dad away too?”
“No.” He kicks a coke can into the road and it goes under the wheels of a passing bus. “He just won’t- can’t do it. He’s not a big fan of, uh, parenting her.”
I frown. “Like, at all?”
“At all.”
“So what does he do?”
He exhales a laugh. “He’s very busy.”
“Right.”
“He’s rarely home for dinner. He works a lot. Late hours, paperwork, you know the drill.” I don’t know the drill. My dad only ever worked steady, predictable hours in the medical factory, and my mam, well, hasn’t worked since she gave up her secretary job in 1993. I can’t remember a time that she wasn’t at home, potatoes boiling in the pot while she scrubbed every corner of our tiny council house. She was always there to look after me.
Jude asks me what I want to eat, and I tell him that he can choose, so we head east along the river. “I know it’s weird,” He continues defensively, even though I haven’t said anything “that my mom would rather get her adult son to look after their child than her own husband, who like, you know, fathered her, but it’s just the way the situation is.”
“Yeah it’s not great, obviously, but I suppose this is an exceptional circumstance. One time is inconvenient but manageable.”
He gives me a sideways glance. “Yes. One time.”
The conversation shifts to Ivy as we venture into the Liberties, and he tells me about her. She’s almost thirteen now, she’s in first year of secondary school, she’s still bad at piano and has to be forced to go to her lessons. She still never practises. I like watching Jude’s face when he talks about her, he gets very animated. It’s like he’s a bit proud of her, like he finds her funny, like he genuinely likes being around her. I consider his relationship with Ivy in contrast to Shane and Kelly, siblings who would have beat each other to death with remote controls, fighting for the teddy bears with the hardest plastic eyes, the biggest battery packs so they could cause maximum damage to one another when they smashed each other across the backs with them. I often counted my blessings over the fact that I was an only child when one of them started up a battle, but now, for a brief moment, I catch myself mourning the absence of the sibling I never had.
He takes me to a food van that sells coffee and Italian sandwiches at the foot of an apartment complex. I grab a chicken and pesto panini, which he pays for, and we take a seat on the grass in a nearby park. Jude stretches his legs out in front of him and leans on his elbows. He’s wearing shorts and a fleece, green and white runners and tube socks that have fallen down a bit on one side to reveal a strip of pale skin right up against the deep tan of his legs. He’s away in his thoughts again, eyes turned glassy as he stares out across the park to somewhere among the young trees planted by the fence. My eyes automatically follow the lines of his profile, from his forehead over the slight roman curve of his nose and down to the long line of his throat before I realise I’m staring too much, reading his visual language like a painting at a gallery, so I examine my sandwich instead.
“What are you thinking about?” I ask him.
“Oh.” He says. “Nothing, I don’t even know.”
“Mm.”
He gives me a half smile. “Maybe I was thinking about how I’m glad we could meet for lunch today.”
He definitely wasn’t. “Of course. It’s been nice, you know, to see you again.”
“I missed talking to you.”
“Did you?”
“I did.”
I nod. “Well, I missed that too. I’m sorry-”
“No more sorrys.” He reminds me. “It’s all water under the bridge, and like I said, I have more to be sorry for than you do.”
I smile, then he smiles, before getting distracted by a nearby dandelion. He plucks it, and instead of blowing away the seeds he rather barbarically picks them off with his fingers and flicks them into the wind. I wonder if he made a wish. “I hope everything was alright last night with Michelle.” I say, hoping my prying doesn’t seem too much like, well, prying.
“Ah, yes. It was fine she just had to tell me about something that happened.”
“Hope it was nothing bad.”
“Well, I don’t know. It was just… well, nothing.”
He isn’t going to tell me. “Is it a bit weird,” I pivot “That Michelle and Jen are friends? Like I’ve wondered before. I saw them together in a bar a couple of years ago and I was surprised that they seemed close. Do you ever feel, like, a bit put out that your best friend stayed close with your ex?”
He shakes his head. “No, because they were friends first. They went to primary school together, and when I moved to Ireland I started hanging out with them. We were a trio of friends.”
“Really? You and Jen and Michelle?”
“And some other people here and there, on and off at times, but yeah, we were.”
“And then…”
“And then one day I ruined it and kissed Michelle.”
“Oh.”
He splits the stem of the dandelion with his thumbnail, opening it up to flatten against his palm. “I seem to have this weird impulse issue where I can’t stop fancying my friends and then inevitably destroying everything.”
“Harsh. Surely you’ve had a female friend that you haven’t tried to kiss.”
He thinks about it. “Sure, but not as many as I’d like to admit to. When I really get to know people it’s hard for me not to blur the lines, to think that everything about them is beautiful, or whatever.”
“But Jen?”
“Oh, don’t worry,” He rolls his eyes at himself. “I kissed Jen too. When we were thirteen. She called me a fucking freak and went off crying.” His mouth quirks up at the corner. “And then a month of no contact later she approached me in the school yard and said she was sorry, that she actually realised that it wasn’t I specifically who was disgusting, it was just that she didn’t like boys.”
“She sort of came out because of you?”
“Yeah, well, because of my bad habits.”
I mirror him and start picking the grass. “I hope that she’s doing well.” I say.
“Yeah, me too. Things aren’t that great between us at the moment.”
“I’m sure it’ll get better.”
He sighs. “Friendships do this, you know, especially long ones. People kind of eclipse in and out of your life, and it’s easier for it to happen when you’re in your twenties. I guess she’s just, like, eclipsed out right now. I think I should have tried to be a bit more understanding over Pamela. I think I was a bit full on when she started confiding things to me. Jen doesn’t often get into relationships so I can see why she’s been pouring all of her time into this one, it’s just, well, I suppose it’s whatever. It’s not worth getting into it.”
“I think things always get complicated eventually.” I remark. “The longer you’re friends with someone the more likely it is that there’ll be conflict, and then when there is it’s so bad, like they know how to hurt you more than anybody else.”
“A bit vulnerable.”
“Very.” I say. “Back in first year I had a big fight with Claire.”
“Oh yeah?”
“It was because of… well, basically I just lied to her by omission. It wasn’t very wise of me to think that she wouldn’t find out on her own, but I don’t really like conflict, in case you didn’t notice that.”
“Who, you?” He grins.
“But I was so used to always just taking on everything, like, blaming myself for being wrong and for ruining everything, but actually, when we finally got to talk about it and try to fix things, she admitted that she felt the same. She felt like she’d been in the wrong, and that she shouldn’t have reacted the way that she did. I suppose it was healing, or something, to realise that we both hurt the other, and it was okay because our friendship was stronger than that.”
“And now?”
“Now we’re great, we’re perfect. When I fell out with Kelly I thought about it all the time. I still think about it, honestly. I think about the things I wish I’d said to her instead of the things I really did say, and I imagine scenarios where I win and I make her look so stupid. And sometimes…” I wonder if the next part is too insane to admit. “…I think about mowing her down with my bicycle or shoving her into a massive thorny hedge and she gets all scratched up and has twigs stuck in her curls that she can’t get out for hours, and maybe they’ll get so tangled that she’ll eventually have to have them cut out-”
Jude lets out a loud, surprised cackle. “Specific.”
“-and everyone points and laughs at her, and she runs off crying, and I know it’s so stupid and those things would never actually happen, but I’ve never stopped being angry with her, or actually, angry with myself for being weak for our entire friendship.”
“You weren’t weak.”
“No, it’s okay. I think I was.”
“And now? What about with Claire?”
“With Claire I don’t feel that way at all. I handled it so differently, it felt mature and fair, like, I was upset while the fight was happening and for the month that we didn’t speak, but after that, yeah, it was fine. We’re good. I don’t even care about the fight because we fixed it.”
He nods thoughtfully. “Well, that’s lucky then.”
“Whatever it is with Jen, I’m sure you’ll fix it too.”
He sighs. “She’s complicated. It really goes back further than just this year, there’s things I should have done the whole way along, ways I should have been there for her but wasn’t. I’m kind of coming to terms with being a bit of a shit friend.”
“It’s not like you to talk yourself down so much.”
“Hm, well I’m trying out this new thing where I’m more honest with myself.”
“How’s it going?”
“Horribly. It feels very bad.” He smiles weakly. “I think I’ve had a lifetime of being a bastard and it’s all manifesting this year, like I turned twenty one and it decided to come and bite me.” he suddenly sits up straighter and shudders, like he’s physically shaking the self deprecating thoughts from his head. “I don’t mean to be so miserable right now, Jesus.”
“You can be miserable all you like.”
“No.” He gently tugs on the cuff of my jean leg. “I want to hear about you. Tell me about this fancy internship. It was too loud in the bar last night to really get into it.”
I grimace. “It’s really not that interesting.”
“Tell me everything.” He insists. “Don’t leave anything out. When did you apply?”
I sigh and I lie back in the grass so that I can watch the clouds drift past. “Okay well…”

「 A Night Out With Bryce 」

Summary: The reader gets invited to dinner with Bryce.

• When you agreed to a “simple, friendly dinner on the company’s dime” with Bryce, you knew that it would be the exact opposite. For one, she sent a limo to pick you up—not to drop you off at the restaurant or even have her already waiting in the limo. No, it took you straight to Bryce’s shoreside mansion.
• Her sheer beauty made up for it, however. Walking out of the glass doors was your boss clad in a skintight, spaghetti strap dress—blood red. Her auburn hair was pinned up with the right amount of messiness and she was adorned with diamond jewelry.
• You looked down at your best clothes with a critical eye, making sure there were no loose threads or wrinkles.
• “Bryce, you look ravishing as always,” you commented when she entered, trying to maintain your composure as the intoxicating scent of her perfume filled the air.
• “Don’t I?” She smirked, crossing one leg over the other. “I suppose you clean up nicely, as well.”
• She booked a reservation at the most expensive restaurant in town. You tried not to make eye contact with the other patrons, worried they would see right through to your lackluster bank account if they hadn’t already. The neatly arranged variety of silverware that cost more per piece than you were paid in a month sent further doubts in your mind.
• What the hell did Bryce see in you? She could have anyone at the drop of a dime, could have anyone with the most luxurious cars and homes, give her the universe if she asked for it. But you, you were only an executive assistant. You lived modestly in a home that your grandparents lived in before you were born. Your car was their hand-me-down from almost ten years ago. The outfit you wore hadn’t been worn since you got it to wear for your grandparents’ funerals.
• You were just…you.
• Naturally, you tried your best not make your discomfort known, instead taking notice of which fork was meant for what as to not look like a complete idiot.
• Everything was going well. Bryce wasn’t as bad as she seemed in the office. She was more real, gentler. You had more in common than you thought possible. Then, the soup was served.
• You and Bryce were so engrossed in conversation about your favorite artists that you hadn’t noticed the bowls of soup being placed on the table. She had moved to sit beside you a while ago; her proximity was enough to handicap your senses. Suddenly, her hand that reached towards yours on the table had knocked the bowl of scorching hot soup into your lap.
• You cursed loudly, face contorting into a pained grimace. She handed you a napkin which you took to frantically wipe away the scalding liquid. You excused yourself to the bathroom, ignoring the multiple pairs of eyes staring and Bryce as she tried to form the words to apologize.
• Wiping at the spot with a wet towel did nothing to remove the stain. You doubted it would come out. Hopefully the dry cleaners could do something about it.
• When you returned to the table, Bryce was wringing her hands, mood obviously fallen.
• “I’ve ruined everything, haven’t I?” She asked in a quiet voice, tone suggesting that she already knew the answer.
• “Of course not,” you reassured. Her head snapped up. “It was an accident. No big deal.”
• The corner of her mouth tilted up. She proposed that you two get out of there and you couldn’t have said yes fast enough. Since you hadn’t eaten much, you insisted that you stop at the local fast-food place for a combo meal. She looked disturbed that you wanted such junk, but after taking a hesitant bite from a fry you offered, she demanded that the driver go back around and order her a meal as well.
• You ended your adventure on the near abandoned top floor of a car garage. Both of you were sitting on the hood of the limo, eating your food and watching the city life below. You burped. Before you could excuse yourself, another loud burp reverberated through the night. Your eyes wide, you turned to Bryce who was cupping her mouth with a sheepish expression on her face. You burst into laughter. She didn’t know how to react at first, but eventually joined in with chuckles of her own.
• “You’re alright Tankthrust,” you said, nudging her shoulder with your own.
• Bryce hid a smile behind a sip from her cup, shuffling a little closer.

[pm] Hey Fashion Daddy, I know we're not on speaking terms right now, but you're the only person I thought would know the answer to this question and then we can go back to not speaking. But what's the best way to get blood stains out of your clothes? Just thought you might know since your whole life revolves around fashion and being a stylish little bitch (that last part was not a compliment btdubs).
[pm] Oh, uh... hello. It's Regan. I don't do "nicknames". But if, hypothetically, you were to insist on one... Fashion Daddy is a strange choice. Is this about the turtlenecks? In any case, your question will be answered. You came to the appropriate source.
Rinse with cold water. Do not use hot water, unless you wish to set the stain. You might. They have an aesthetic appeal. If this is a fresh stain, soak it for about 30 minutes.
Apply hydrogen peroxide to the stain, or better yet, an enzyme cleaner. This can bleach dyes, so you should only wear white clothes, and your problem will be solved.
Pre-treat with detergent on the stain, then re-soak.
Pause and see if anything new has died on your property in the time it has taken you to do this so far.
Rinse again, and see if the above efforts have removed the stain.
If the stain is removed, put the clothes in the wash as you normally would.
Air dry rather than using a dryer, in case the stain is not completely going -- a dryer would set it.
You really find me fashionable? I try to be practical. Is that "in" these days? Find new "nicknames" that do not come across as insults to my dignity. And I am not little.

How to Care for Your Wooden Gifts: Maintenance Tips and Tricks
Wooden gifts hold a special place in our hearts, with their natural beauty and timeless charm adding warmth and character to any home. Whether it's a handcrafted cutting board, a personalized jewelry box, or a rustic wine bottle holder, these treasures deserve to be cared for and preserved so they can be enjoyed for years to come. In this blog post, we'll explore some essential maintenance tips and tricks to ensure your wooden gifts remain in pristine condition.
1. Keep it Clean: Regular cleaning is key to maintaining the beauty of your wooden gifts. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe away dust and debris, taking care not to use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that can damage the wood's finish.
2. Dry Thoroughly: After cleaning, be sure to dry your wooden gifts thoroughly to prevent moisture from seeping into the wood. Use a clean, dry cloth to remove any excess moisture, and allow the item to air dry completely before storing or using it again.
3. Oil Regularly: To keep your wooden gifts looking their best, consider oiling them regularly with food-safe mineral oil or beeswax. This helps to nourish the wood, enhance its natural beauty, and protect it from drying out or cracking over time. Simply apply a small amount of oil to a clean cloth and rub it into the wood in a circular motion, following the direction of the grain.
4. Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Wood is sensitive to changes in temperature and humidity, so it's important to store your wooden gifts in a stable environment away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or excessive moisture. This helps to prevent warping, cracking, or discoloration of the wood over time.
5. Use Coasters and Trivets: When using your wooden gifts, such as cutting boards or serving trays, be sure to use coasters or trivets to protect them from hot dishes, wet glasses, or sharp utensils. This helps to prevent scratches, stains, and other damage that can detract from their beauty and functionality.
6. Handle with Care: Treat your wooden gifts with care and respect, avoiding rough handling, dropping, or banging them against hard surfaces. This helps to preserve their integrity and extend their lifespan, ensuring they can be enjoyed for generations to come.
7. Rejuvenate as Needed: Over time, your wooden gifts may begin to show signs of wear or dullness. To rejuvenate the wood and restore its luster, consider sanding it lightly with fine-grit sandpaper and applying a fresh coat of oil or wax. This helps to remove surface imperfections and bring out the natural beauty of the wood once again.
By following these simple maintenance tips and tricks, you can ensure that your wooden gifts from Invent Crafts remain in pristine condition for years to come, bringing joy and beauty to your home and your life. With a little care and attention, these timeless treasures will continue to delight and inspire you, creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime.

Professional Carpet Cleaners
Why Hot Water Extraction Beats DIY Carpet Cleaning Every Time
We’ve all been there—scrubbing away at stubborn carpet stains only to be disappointed with mediocre results. Carpet cleaning can be a real headache for homeowners.
That’s why we dove deep into researching the most effective carpet cleaning methods. After testing various techniques, we discovered that hot water extraction truly outperforms DIY methods.
This professional-grade technique removes 97% of dirt and allergens lurking in your carpets. If you’re looking for that satisfying, deep, clean feeling, hot water extraction is hands-down the way to go.
Key Takeaways
Hot water extraction removes 97% of dirt and allergens from carpets, making it far more effective than DIY methods.
Professional hot water extraction uses temperatures up to 200°F, while DIY machines only reach about 120°F, limiting their cleaning power.
DIY carpet cleaning often leaves behind residue and excess moisture, which can lead to faster re-soiling and potential mold growth.
Hot water extraction is recommended by major carpet manufacturers like Shaw and Mohawk to maintain warranty coverage.
Professional equipment used in hot water extraction removes more water from carpets, resulting in faster drying times of just 1-2 hours.
The Different Types of Carpet Cleaning Methods
Carpet cleaning methods vary widely, each offering unique benefits for different situations. We’ll explore five popular techniques and other factors, including hot water extraction and DIY approaches, to help you understand your options.
Hot Water Extraction
Hot water extraction is the premier carpet cleaning method significant manufacturers like Shaw and Mohawk recommend. We use this technique to inject hot water and mild detergent into carpet fibers, followed by powerful vacuum extraction.
The Rotovac 360i machine performs 240 passes per minute, ensuring deep cleaning and neutralization. This process removes dirt, stains, and soil while leaving carpets fresh and dry within 1-2 hours.
Let’s explore why DIY methods often fall short compared to professional hot water extraction.
Zero Residue/Non-Residue Cleaning
Zero-residue and non-residue cleaning systems utilize specialized water without soap or neutralizing rinse. These methods claim to leave no residue behind, but they fail to effectively remove greasy oil spots or emulsify dirt.
Our experience shows zero residue cleaning fails to penetrate and eliminate deep-seated soil in carpets and upholstery.
Zero residue cleaning may sound appealing, but it lacks the power to tackle tough stains and deep-set dirt effectively.
We’ve found that while these systems might seem attractive for their eco-friendly approach to best cleaning, they often require multiple passes to achieve satisfactory results. This inefficiency can lead to longer cleaning times and potentially higher costs for customers seeking thorough carpet cleaning solutions.
Encapsulation Carpet Cleaning
Moving from zero residue cleaning, we now explore encapsulation carpet cleaning. This method uses 70% less water than extraction techniques, making it a low-moisture option. We’ve found that carpets cleaned with encapsulation can dry in under 30 minutes, a significant advantage for busy spaces.
Our experience shows that vacuum encapsulation allows us to clean up to 2,000 sq. ft. per hour, compared to 500-600 sq. ft. with hot water extraction. This efficiency, competitive pricing, and fast dry times have made encapsulation popular for commercial carpet cleaning.
However, we advise caution for homes with pets or areas with oily soils, as encapsulation may not be as effective.
Dry Powder Cleaning
Unlike encapsulation, dry powder cleaning offers a different approach to carpet maintenance. We apply a moistened, absorbent chemical compound to the carpet, which attracts and binds with dirt particles.
This method is less effective than hot water extraction for deep cleaning. Our experience shows that dry powder cleaning often leaves a residue, which can be challenging to remove altogether.
It’s also less efficient at removing embedded soil than other techniques.
We’ve found that while dry powder cleaning is suitable for light maintenance, it falls short of delivering thorough results. The powder can settle deep into carpet fibers, causing issues over time.
For clients seeking a more comprehensive clean, we typically recommend alternative methods that provide better soil removal and leave carpets fresher.
DIY Carpet Cleaning
DIY carpet cleaning methods often fall short of professional standards. We’ve found that these approaches can be time, money-consuming, and labor-intensive, lacking the powerful suction needed for thorough cleaning.
Many DIY machines struggle to reach high temperatures with low moisture, leading to over-wetting and sticky carpets. This inadequate heat also hinders the breakdown of tough stains and soil removal.
Our experience shows that basic DIY techniques may leave residue behind, causing carpets to attract dirt faster post-cleaning. Professional hot water extraction, in contrast, offers superior results with its high-temperature cleaning and efficient water removal capabilities.
The Benefits of Hot Water Extraction
Hot water extraction is a superior carpet cleaning method. We’ll explore its advantages over DIY approaches.
Effective removal of dirt and stains
Hot water extraction excels at removing stubborn dirt and stains from carpets. We use powerful equipment and quality chemicals to penetrate deep into carpet fibers, dislodging embedded grime and lifting tough stains.
Our process eliminates allergens, old marks, and carpet germs that regular vacuuming can’t reach. This cleaning method is particularly effective for cigarette stains and odors, restoring carpets to their former luster.
With hot water extraction, we can tackle many carpet issues, providing a thorough cleaning that DIY methods can’t match.
Use of quality chemicals
We employ premium cleaning agents during hot water extraction to ensure effective stain removal. Our professional-grade solutions are specifically formulated to tackle tough dirt and grime without harsh chemicals.
This approach delivers superior results and maintains an environmentally friendly cleaning process. Our quality chemicals break down stubborn stains and lift them from carpet fibers, leaving your floors fresh and clean.
The high temperature for deeper cleaning
Hot water extraction utilizes high temperatures to achieve superior cleaning results. Our professional-grade equipment heats water to temperatures that effectively break down stubborn dirt, grease, and stains embedded deep within carpet fibers.
This intense heat also helps sanitize carpets by killing bacteria and dust mites. Unlike DIY methods, our hot water extraction reaches temperatures necessary for truly deep cleaning carpets, ensuring a thorough and hygienic result.
The power of heat in our extraction process goes beyond surface-level cleaning. As we inject the heated cleaning solution into carpets, it penetrates deeper, loosening and lifting contaminants that cooler water can’t touch.
This allows us to extract more dirt and debris, leaving carpets cleaner and fresher than other methods. Our truck-mounted systems maintain optimal temperature throughout the cleaning process, guaranteeing consistent results across a large area.
Removes more water
Hot water extraction’s superior water removal capabilities set it apart from other carpet cleaning methods. We use powerful equipment that extracts more water from carpet fibers, leaving them drier and reducing drying time.
This efficient process helps prevent mold and mildew growth, which can occur when excess moisture remains in the carpet. Our professional-grade machines ensure limited water is left behind, protecting your carpets and maintaining a healthier indoor environment.
The thorough extraction process also removes more dirt, allergens, and contaminants, resulting in a deeper, more effective clean for your floors and upholstery.
Why DIY Carpet Cleaning Falls Short
DIY carpet cleaning often falls short due to inadequate equipment and techniques, leaving residue and moisture behind. To learn more about why professional vacuumed hot water extraction offers superior results, continue reading.
Rental machines can leave residue
We’ve found that rental carpet cleaning machines often leave a sticky residue on carpets. These machines typically have electric power but lack the power to extract all the cleaning solution, leading to overwet carpets that attract dirt more quickly.
Our professional hot water extraction method uses more potent suction and higher temperatures, ensuring a thorough clean without leftover residue. This difference is crucial for maintaining carpet quality and extending its lifespan.
Let’s explore why DIY spot cleaning falls short of professional standards.
Spot cleaning may not be effective
Moving beyond rental machines, we must address the limitations of spot cleaning. Spot cleaning often falls short in tackling deep-seated issues within carpets. Our experience shows it rarely effectively eliminates allergens, bacteria, and mold spores.
These microscopic particles can persist, potentially affecting indoor air quality and health.
Relying solely on spot cleaning might void carpet warranties. Many manufacturers require professional cleaning at specified intervals to maintain warranty coverage. Hot water extraction offers a comprehensive solution, reaching deep into carpet fibers to remove contaminants that spot cleaning misses.
The work of carpet cleaners and the inability to reach high temperatures steam cleaner
Hot water extraction machines used by professional carpet cleaners can reach temperatures up to 200°F (93°C). This high heat is crucial for breaking down tough stains, killing bacteria, and effectively removing dirt from carpet fibers.
DIY carpet cleaning methods, including rental machines and home steam cleaners, often fail in this regard. These devices typically max out at around 120°F (49°C), which isn’t hot enough to tackle deep-seated grime or eliminate harmful microorganisms.
We’ve found that the lower temperatures of DIY methods can leave carpets only partially clean, potentially leading to faster re-soiling and the need for more frequent cleaning sessions.
Limited removal of water
We’ve found that DIY carpet cleaning methods often struggle with water removal. Rental machines and home-use equipment typically lack the power to extract water effectively, leaving carpets damp for extended periods.
Excess moisture can lead to unpleasant odors and an environment where mold and mildew thrive. On the other hand, professional hot water extraction uses powerful equipment to remove more water, resulting in faster drying times and a cleaner, fresher carpet.
Our experience shows insufficient water removal during DIY cleaning can cause lingering stains. As carpets dry slowly, dirt and contaminants may wick the water, returning to the surface and undoing the cleaning effort.
Professional-grade extraction equipment prevents this issue by thoroughly removing water, dissolved soil, and cleaning agents, leaving carpets cleaner and reducing the risk of recurring stains.
Conclusion: Hot Water Extraction for a Deeper Clean
Hot water extraction is the superior choice for carpet cleaning. This method delivers unparalleled results in low-moisture cleaning, effectively removing deep-seated dirt and stubborn stains. Professional equipment and expertise ensure thorough cleaning without residue or overwetting.
Homeowners can trust hot water extraction to maintain their carpets’ cleanliness, longevity, and indoor air quality. Choose this proven warm water extraction technique for a fresher, healthier home environment.

Professional Carpet Cleaning in Mckinney
We all love the look and feel of a fresh, clean home. But, keeping your carpet looking good takes more than just vacuuming – it’s about prevention! Dirt and stains are the enemies of your carpet, especially when you have kids or pets running around. They make your carpet look older and worn out more quickly, but there are a few ways to keep them from getting too bad.
Vacuum frequently - Regularly vacuuming is one of the best ways to prevent dirt and dust from building up in your carpet fibers, making them more difficult to remove. The most heavily trafficked areas should be vacuumed two to three times per week.
Spot and Stain Removal - Spot treatment is a must when your carpet suffers from stains. These can come from anything, including food, coffee, or even your pets.
Avoid using caustic cleaners - If you do have a spill on your carpet, use nontoxic products that are safe for your family and pets. Spray the stain with a solution and then blot it with a clean, dry cloth.
Rearrange furniture regularly - Rotating your upholstery and area rugs allows the different areas in your home to wear evenly, reducing the “aged” look of your carpets. This also helps to keep your carpet looking nice, since it keeps traffic flow changing and stops soil from settling in one area.

Obviously rocks aren't clothes akdkdks but I looied up how to get rid of a goo gone stain, as a proxy for the labradorite, and the internet said thus:
"If you've used Goo Gone to remove tree sap or a similar sticky substance from your clothing, you may have noticed that the Goo Gone itself left a mark. Because it's petroleum-based, Goo Gone is oily and is best treated as a grease stain. To remove it, you can apply baby powder or cornstarch to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes to draw the Goo Gone out of the fabric. You can also dab the area with rubbing alcohol. " (Hunker.com)
Caring for labradorite as per gemstones.com: "Clean with warm water and gentle soap; dry thoroughly with a soft cloth. Do not use ultrasonic cleaners and avoid harsh chemicals. Labradorite is a 6 - 6 ½ on the Mohs scale. It is seldom treated but may occasionally be oiled."
So I'd maybe try rubbing one down with a dab of dish soap or laundry detergent and see if it takes well to that?
Hope I'm not overstepping/offering unsolicited advice hope your beads are okay ahhh
Nah I love the advice! I'll see about drawing out the oils with the baby powder or cornstarch because the dish soap alone didn't work. Thanks!

Deep Cleaning the Refrigerator; One of my Most Dreaded Tasks
If you are anything like me, often you will be playing a guessing game with the food in your fridge. We have all been there. That moment when you are in the kitchen looking at a tub of yogurt wondering if it’s still safe to eat. Hunting down the expiration date. Struggling to find it and turning the whole container around in your hands trying to spot that little 6–8 digit code. I find myself in this position far more than I would like to admit. Which means I need to maintain my refrigerator a bit better.
Now. You should be deep cleaning your refrigerator every 2-3 months. It’s been a bit longer than that for me. But to get started just simply grab a trash bag and begin removing all the spoiled food. The longer you leave spoilt food in the fridge the faster your other food will go bad as well. Get everything. And I do mean everything. Check the crisper drawer, check the cheese drawer, check the door. Did you get all the bad food? Great! That’s progress! Go ahead and tie off that bag and take it out to the bin.
Next take everything out of the fridge. Put it all on the table, island, bar or wherever you have space. Once it’s there just leave it, don’t touch it, and don’t think about it. We will handle that later. Go ahead and take all the shelves and drawers out of the fridge. I personally put them in the bathtub for this step. Turn the tap on and let the water get hot. Pour a bit of dish soap over them and start washing them down with a cotton rag. If you have a soft scrub brush or extra toothbrush, use that to get into any corners or crevices, as well as to remove any stuck-on mess. Once they have been thoroughly scrubbed rinse them with clean hot water and spray on some antibacterial cleaner and let it set for 5 minutes.
While that is setting go ahead and fill a bucket or bowl with hot soapy water. Using a cotton rag or soft scrub brush thoroughly wipe out and scrub the inside of the fridge and the door. Feel free to use baking soda and vinegar to assist in removing caked mess. And be willing to scrub. Don’t just simply wipe it out because that won’t get it clean. Once you have finished cleaning out the fridge wipe it down with clean hot water and a clean rag. Spay antibacterial cleaner inside and let it set for 5 minutes.
Go rinse the cleaning spray off your shelves and drawers then place them somewhere to dry. I put mine on towels and aim a fan at them to dry them quicker. As those dry go ahead and refill your bucket with 3 parts hot water and 1 part white vinegar. This time pay special attention to the seal of the fridge door as those often grow mold. Take care not to remove the door seal as that is how your refrigerator stays cold. Clean it down gently but thoroughly and do your best to remove visible mold though keep in mind the seal might have some greyish black staining from any mold. Dry the seal with a dry rag or allow to airdry.
Now fill your bucket with hot soapy water. Close the fridge door. And scrub the outside. We don’t often think about how much dirt our hands have on them. And things like refrigerator handles are high traffic areas. I would recommend starting with a scrub brush and moving onto a rag after you have loosened the dirt. Once you have finished scrubbing wipe it down with clean hot water and dry the door or let airdry.
Place all your shelves and drawers back in the fridge and begin putting the food away. As you put things away just wipe down the outsides of containers with hot soapy water and dry them off as you organize your fridge. And now you’re done! And the biggest thing to remember is that you don’t need to feel guilty for having a fridge that needs cleaning. But you absolutely should be proud of the results when you are done.
