happy 32 followers!!!
i just wanna say thank you all i did cat eyes as just a funny lil thing to gain some experience making comics for future projects so iwont stop cat eyes till i either get board demotivated or till its finished lolz!
i've been in the fandom for years but this is my first real project so im happy you all seem to like it!!! i have big big plans!!!

Trouble Comes Twice - the Postmortem
We celebrated Trouble Comes Twice's anniversary around a month ago! We'd hoped to post this postmortem back then as well, but it's taken us a moment to find the right words haha.
Anyway, we hope that this postmortem can give our players and other visual novel devs some insight into what the development process looked like for us. It's also a great way for us to look back at what went well and what went less well.
We'll be taking about the ideation phase, our (lack of) marketing for the Kickstarter, and also sharing (what we can) on our earnings from the game!
Coming up with Trouble Comes Twice
The original tone of Trouble Comes Twice was a lot more comedic and packed to the brim with anime tropes we enjoy. Most didn't make it into the final game, but some stayed and evolved e.g. all of the love interests are based on popular visual novel archetypes - the childhood friend, the tomboy, the shy girl, and the bad boy.
Some, like Cameron and Zoe, changed a lot from their concept while Adrian and Stephanie stayed quite loyal to our original ideas of them. Cameron's character actually underwent the most changes after the initial reception to the demo, where a lot of people felt like he was too much of an ass haha. (Fortunately, he became a fan favorite when we dropped the new demo!)
The premise with the bet was something we invented to create some drama and establish a common plot thread throughout each route. Honestly, looking back, we would probably have approached the bet differently if we wrote it today and a lot of our pre-planning was... clumsy, at best. Still, it was a labor of love and I'll never forget the fun and excitement we had everyday balling ideas for the characters and coming up with their designs.
As Melli and I are just writers with limited coding experience, we worked with a past game jam friend to code the GUI and set up the base for the game (though the actual scripting was done by us and Melli put everything together in the end). Our biggest expenses pre- and post-demo was the character art and CGs, meanwhile we relied on free music and BG packs to save money.
Why a bisexual romcom?
So, this was sort of a no-brainer to us. We had decided right from the start that both twins could date both the male and female love interests, and (at the time) we feel that a lot of similar games had playersexual MCs rather than established bisexual/pansexual MCs. While playersexual charas are also awesome, we wanted to write a romcom where the main cast are always queer regardless of who you end up romancing.
At the same time, bi/pan people don't all approach romantic relationships the same way e.g. Cameron is confident and has experience dating people of all genders, while Adrian's demi and Jace still struggles a bit with his attraction towards men. We know that some of our players felt like that made certain routes less romantic than others and we hear you on that feedback and have 100% taken it into consideration for our future romance games. But anyway, that was our thought process behind Trouble Comes Twice's romance dynamics!
Preparing for Kickstarter & the actual Campaign
Our Kickstarter launched at the start of August and let me tell you, we were nowhere near as prepared as we should have been. 😭 We hadn't set up a Steam page yet, we were trailer-less, and we only had a couple of hundred followers across our socials at best. I feel that there's a lot more successful Kickstarter projects to refer to and even a lot of marketing guides and advice now, but mostly it's on us for not researching more.
The Kickstarter campaign did surprisingly well despite the lack of promotion and only having a rough alpha demo - we were even able to double our goal! - but we wouldn't recommend what we did for other devs.
You should invest time into making a good demo, spend time building an interested audience before launching your campaign, and research so you've got some kind of marketing plan. We were lucky with word-of-mouth and that other visual novel devs with larger followings helped share our game, but we should have made more effort reaching out to bloggers, streamers, and game sites. Some crowdfunding successes may seem like they came out of nowhere and were just pure luck, but there's usually a lot of grinding behind-the-scenes that you don't notice.
The post-Kickstarter era, at least for us, was the harder bit. We now had 353 loyal backers who had expectations based on promises we had made and we had to make sure we met those expectations while also staying true to our wants as the devs. It was a learning process for sure, but we're fairly proud that we always did our best to keep our backers in the loop. It's frustrating to write an update explaining that the game has been delayed again, but backers are more open to being understanding than you think as long as you communicate!
A tip we'd give to new devs considering Kickstarter: Don't overestimate what you can do, but overestimate what you need. There's always hidden costs, unexpected taxes/fees, and other unknown obstacles that might eat up your budget. In our case, we made enough to make the game as planned, but had to change CG artists around halfway through development which meant our original budget didn't cut it anymore. Fortunately, we had earned a decent amount from our Patreon and pre-orders that we were able to use to complete the CGs, but that isn't always going to be an option for everyone and that also meant we were unable to use that money ourselves. (We didn't take any money from the original Kickstarter campaign, so whatever was earned through patreon and pre-sales was our only "salary" at the time.)
Writing the game
Writing is, for obvious reasons, one of the most important parts of a visual novel. Melli wrote Jace's routes and I wrote Hazel's routes, which removed some pressure off our shoulders compared to trying to write over 300,000 words all on our own.
It's fun working with another writer, but there are also some unique issues and considerations that come up when you're writing a game with two protagonists split between two writers. Especially because at the time, there weren't many visual novels with a similar set up to refer to.
The main things we learned, were:
Consistency. We wanted each couple to have their own dynamic, but the characterization needs to remain consistent between routes. You don't want Adrian in Jace's route to feel like a totally different character in Hazel's route. Additionally, we had to be careful that the tone and writing style of the protagonists' POVs still felt like you were playing the same game. Some routes can be more comedic than others, but we've got a problem if Hazel's routes are all (unintentionally) more serious/angsty in tone than Jace's or vice versa.
Watch out for your word count! Longer does not always equal better and writing eight routes, we had to put some restrictions in place. Even when writing on your own, it can be tough to guess how long your story should be, and it was important to us that the routes were roughly the same length so that none felt more "canon" than the other. However, with two writers who have different writing styles and ways of planning, it was tricky to compare our outlines and we struggled at times when it came to matching each other's word counts. Moving forward, we're probably going to be more lenient when it comes to word counts - some routes have to be longer than others, it doesn't mean that route is automatically more "important". We're also doing more regular meetings and frequent check-ins to make sure we're on the same page. In the future, we hope that should save us a lot of trouble when it comes to pacing! 🙈
Balancing your own wants with the wants of your players. In theory, these overlap most of the time. But making a commercial game (that people had already "bought" through the Kickstarter), there is some pressure when it comes to meeting certain expectations. We can't always just write what we want and assume everyone else is going to love it, but we also don't want to neglect what we personally like. We had a survey for the beta where we were able to get regular feedback and a lot of helpful advice. We definitely want to continue with surveys in the future - they are a great way to gather opinions from different players and figure out what works versus what doesn't!
We took on too many tasks outside writing that distracted us. This bit is sort of inevitable for indie devs like us. 😅 Working with a limited budget and limited resources, you just end up having to wear a lot of hats! We think we did quite well sharing these duties though, and moving forward (thanks to you guys) we can afford more hands on deck to help us out.
Marketing
The bane of every indie game dev's existence... although secretly, I kind of enjoy marketing but don't tell anyone that!
Having learned a thing or two from promoting the Kickstarter, we spent more time researching games marketing but in the end, trial and error was the best teacher.
As we got closer to the release date, we were posting almost daily on social media and grew our Twitter to over eight thousand followers. We didn't have any viral posts, but we saw a consistent growing interest in our game and it was such a motivation boost to see comments from potential players being excited for the game. We know a lot of devs have said that Twitter didn't help their game much but according to our stats, a decent number of our players found us through the platform.
We saw less success here on Tumblr. Perhaps we haven't cracked the code here yet or maybe we're just comparing our numbers from Twitter unfairly! We're not hung up about it though, we love it here because it feels easier to connect with our followers and other devs there, and it's nice because we're able to write longer posts like this one! 💓
Aside from posting on social media, we reached out to several streamers and some bloggers prior to release to send them free game keys.
We also commissioned some art from other artists to share, as we obviously couldn't reveal ALL our CGs before the release lol and visual posts tend to do a lot better in our experience. It was so much fun to see the characters in other art styles and we hope we can afford to commission guest art pieces a lot more frequently in the future!
In hindsight, we definitely regret not releasing a trailer sooner! We underestimated how much interest a good trailer could garner and delayed setting up our Steam page because of it. Steam was the platform where we sold the most copies and most of our buyers found the game through Steam itself.
Also, posting your trailer on youtube adds another site where you're promoting your game so there's really no reason not to get that trailer done as soon as you can.
Final Notes
After the initial stress, we were pretty happy with our release! Although there were some things we would go back and change if we could, that's just the nature of these kind of things. For the most part, we're proud of what we achieved and happy that we have learnt so much from Trouble Comes Twice that we can take into consideration for future projects.
We can't share exact numbers, but we wanted to open up a bit about our earnings for the game to help other aspiring devs: As of writing this, Trouble Comes Twice has earned close to 85,000 euros. This counts our profits from 2020 to now (the Kickstarter, Patreon, pre-sales, and actual sales). Removing fees, taxes, the salaries of our talented artists and other freelancers, as well as the money invested into our next game, our personal pockets did not see anything close to those numbers. But we're super proud of how much our little game has made and so grateful that it's allowed us more creative freedom with our next title!
So, what's next?
You might have heard but for the past year, we've slowly been working on the demo and upcoming announcement for our next visual novel:
A 17+ supernatural neon-noir romance game about monsters, love, and other horrors.
Play as vampire detective Circe (female protagonist) or hellhound cop Dante (male protagonist) and delve into the mysteries of North Haven, where demons, vampires, and supernaturals hide in plain sight among humans.
The game features six routes, with three romance options available to each protagonist. Dante only has male romances and Circe has both male and female romances.
The game tackles a darker, more angsty tone compared to Trouble Comes Twice. Still, we hope that those who decide to check it out will enjoy it! We plan to announce the game this coming Autumn. Follow our Twitter (we're still not calling it X sorry) or Tumblr to stay up to date.

Chara undertale how I hate you (affectionate). The fandom has endless arguments about your nature and purpose to the story of undertale. I am going to regurgitate information I have stewing in my mind and put down my theory/interpretation.
This isn't very refined. None of it is unique, and I have read/watched so much Chara and genocide route analysis that I can't recall where parts of it originally came from, but I will link to the most notable instances at the end.
The actual theory that gets repeated midway through the post: You are Chara. Chara is the actual player character of Undertale. This wasn't originally here, but I think it's best to have the theory in mind when reading the first bits of evidence.
The player names them, and most players will name them after themselves for the first playthrough, this seems to be intended. Using "Chara" results in the response "The True Name." The term "True Name" has various definitions that could apply to this situation, but the one that seems the most accurate is "the name of a thing or being that expresses, or is somehow identical with, its true nature." Chara is short for "Character," which would mean Chara's true nature is that of a character of some kind.
Chara's fall date is marked as 201X, with the X being a stand-in for the game's release year of 2015 (alternatively, the demo's release year of 2013).
Similar to Gaster for Deltarune, when Undertale came out, messages from Flowey were posted by the official Undertale Twitter account. They're directed at "you," which in this case appears to be Chara. Here's the transcription: "Hee hee hee...I've been waiting for you to get here. How long has it been...? How many years...? ... It doesn't matter. I KNEW you would come back. ... So. What do you say? Won't you play with me again? =)"
Chara's name appears on Frisk's stats/save menu and the battle screen. In Deltarune, we see something similar, but it only occurs on Kris' save file with the player name.
Throughout the game, you will occasionally see some of Chara's memories. This occurs in the intro and when Frisk dies, falls asleep under specific circumstances in Toriel's home in the ruins, or falls into the garbage dump. Something similar happens in Asriel's boss fight, but we know that comes from Asriel himself due to the name of the code and Temmie's FAQ describing it as Asriel regaining his memories.
Here's some quotes from Flowey/Asriel describing his motivations:
"If you leave the underground satisfied, you'll "win" the game. If you "win," you won't want to "play" with me anymore. [...] But this game between us will NEVER end."
"I just want to reset everything. All your progress... Everyone's memories. I'll bring them all back to zero! Then we can do everything ALL over again."
"Do you know why I'm doing this...? Why I keep fighting to keep you around...? I'm doing this... Because you're special, [Name]. You're the only one that understands me. You're the only one who's any fun to play with anymore. I'm not ready for this to end. I'm not ready for you to leave. I'm not ready to say goodbye to someone like you again..."
Asriel's motivations are very odd to read from an in-universe perspective. If he broke the barrier, he could still play with Frisk (who he thinks is Chara), but instead, he seems to think that if they leave the Underground satisfied (if the game is won), he'll have to say goodbye to them again. To stop "the game" from ending, he wants to reset it and force you to do it again.
Flowey's post pacifist monologue reveals a lot. It is directed at the one being with control of the Save/Load system, which means he became aware of them and their presence at some point. He begs the being in question to not reset and describes it as "the power you were fighting to stop [...] The power that I wanted to use," referring to his plan as Asriel to keep the game going. He begs this being to let Frisk and the monsters live out their lives, separating this being and Frisk. The speech places extra emphasis on the word "you" twice by fully capitalizing it. Flowey addresses the being he's talking to as the name you gave Chara. An extra note to add here is after this scene and before true resetting, the menu theme is replaced with an extremely slowed down version of the regular menu theme (extremely slowed down music is associated with Chara by the genocide route).
Before moving onto the genocide route, I'm going to put down one more piece of information that I think is important, and follow it up with the interpretation/theory that I personally think explains all of these details rather cohesively:
Toby seems to see and portray the relationship between the player character and the player as the two being mostly one and the same entity. This goes all the way back to his Earthbound Halloween Hack days, and you can see it in his statements all of the time, such as here when he refers to Kris' room and family using second person pronouns. But I think you can see it most clearly in Skies Forever Blue's lyrics (which were written by Toby), in which the singer conflates the player character "Two friends started just as neighbors" and the player "When you made my name the same just as the one you love, then I knew. Maybe to your view, I'm just a faintly colored hue, that's alright," and falls in love with them.
The interpretation/theory: You are Chara, alternatively, Chara is the actual player character of Undertale. This leads to a nesting doll situation with Frisk.
Why is Chara's name on Frisk's save file? Because Chara/you are the being who is actually in control of it. Why is Chara's name in Frisk's stats? Because you're not directly playing as Frisk, you're playing as Chara, who is then playing as/controlling Frisk. Why does Asriel not want the barrier to be broken/not want the game to be beaten? Because you (Chara) as the player can't exist in Undertale's world when the game is over.
Just from the evidence in neutral/pacifist, this seems to be what Toby was trying to portray. While the genocide route does complicate this, I think it also reinforces it a lot too.
As a pre-emptive note, I do not believe in NarraChara and think it is not intentional. While it is a cool headcanon, I think most of the fanbase thinking it's canon has actually damaged analysis of the genocide route and Chara as a character permanently. To me, there is a general narrator that Chara occasionally speaks over in the genocide route. Before their monologue, Chara consistently speaks in a very contrasting tone with regular narration and always in first person. The closest to normal narration they speak is the "Strongly felt [x] left. Shouldn't proceed yet" waterfall geno-abort prevention dialogue, which dodges any pronouns and is still likely Chara describing their own emotions in first person perspective. The genocide route takes many ques from classic video game creepypasta tropes. The player character speaking directly to the player is one of them, and it is purposefully portrayed in contrast to be eerie.
Chara's enhanced presence in the genocide route is first made known when the kill counter in the ruins is exhausted. Dialogue/narration from them then appears in Toriel's house. "Where are the knives?" in the kitchen and "It's me, [Name]" in the mirror.
The second line, in particular, begins a running trend throughout the route, Chara claiming ownership of Frisk's body/actions and speaking as if they ARE Frisk. The second case of this is actually during Glad Dummy, which despite using second person pronouns, is clearly directed at the Dummy itself which would make sense if they were facing her personally "Wipe that smile off your face." The third case is when facing Monster Kid, with their encounter text "In my way." The line "It's me, [Name]" reappears in both the lab camera and Asgore's mirrors. The Hotland Guards have their check text "I see two lovers [...] I couldn't stop laughing." The final notable instance is "(I unlocked the chain)."
The behavior of out-of-player-control actions starting in Snowdin is vastly different in this route, and the implication is that this is Chara's doing. Rushing through introductions/cutscenes with Sans and Papyrus and refusing to do puzzles. Starting in Waterfall, the surprised encounter icon is replaced with a smile (associated with them by that being their sprite's default expression). Threatening Monster Kid & Flowey (with a "creepy face" associated with them by the True lab tapes). Slashing Sans and Asgore. Mercilessly & Sadistically cutting down Flowey. In the demo, this actually starts right before Toriel's boss fight with her getting cut off before she can finish her speech. (Additionally, we see more Chara dialogue that I think goes underappreciated in the form of "That was fun. Let's finish the job.)
Chara claiming ownership of Frisk's body/actions seems very similar to how Toby portrays the relationship between a player character and their player. While Chara is OUR player character, Frisk would basically be Chara's player character. Frisk as a character does not change uniquely in the genocide route when compared to violent neutrals. The only thing causing their drastically different behavior is Chara's active participation upon becoming partially disconnected from the player.
Chara's monologues are often the subject of the debate of "Who is Chara talking to?" I personally think its pretty clear that they're talking to the player. Nothing they say makes sense in-universe. The idea that they're talking to Frisk also runs into a problem when they suggest doing a different route if you recreate the world again. Frisk, just like Flowey, does not remember True Resets or completed genocide routes (unlike Chara who on the steam release can technically remember things from other installs of Undertale which further ties them and the player together, as Flowey/Asriel's dialogue implies that True Resets erase the memories/deja vu of everyone besides the one preforming them). Also, why would you be talking as if you were equals to a person you've been controlling the entire time? That feels a bit odd to me.
Chara's monologues do contain lines that present a problem to this theory/interpretation. The first one is "Since when were you the one in control?" The second one is "But. You and I are not the same, are we?" Both could be more metaphorical as most if not all of Chara's dialogue isn't strictly literal and there are other explanations of Chara that don't contradict this one and could help cover up these weak points.
Even with those two lines, I think this interpretation is extremely strong and seems to at least be close to Toby's intent. It also keeps getting reinforced:
The Important person shirt is in both Undertale and Deltarune's sections on fangamer's merch site, and while it is clearly Kris' shirt in design, its description should also apply to Chara because it's being sold as a shirt for them as well. This description of it from the newsletter is what added the "It will make you look like someone with an important connection to you." The "You" also gets replaced by whatever name you subscribed to the newsletter with.
While the shirt has been used to argue about Kris' DR counterpart, I don't think the description is referring to that topic at all, as it focuses on specifically the connection the shirt's bearers share with the player. The only connection I can think of is that both Chara and Kris are player characters. If you think Frisk is the player character of Undertale and Chara is a third party, they don't have any connection to the player at all. We also don't name Kris, unlike Chara. I would actually like to see other interpretations of this because I genuinely cannot think of any other possible "important connection" Kris and Chara could both individually share with the player.
This Twitter thread by Wandydoodles is where I got the Flowey/Asriel motivations from. Additionally, despite how much I dislike Oblivion theory's conclusions regarding Deltarune, I think its Undertale/Chara analysis is really great and deserves a read.
This Youtube video by Grim Dreamer. While it is primarily a NarraChara debunk video, the creator proposes Chara as a mirror to/representation of the player, which is basically the same theory and may actually be more coherent than my drivel.

as the creator, Toby knows everything there is about Undertale, but that's also 'cause he was the first player. he was the first one to play, the first with the power to RESET and SAVE, the first one to go through every option and every line of dialogue; it used to be the game he played the most, while he was also the player who played Undertale the most times; and was the one to invite us to play, the one to first tell the world about the game
Flowey was one of the most present characters responsible for Undertale-related places — like the site and the twitter account —, specially by the development and release times
after the demo was out and everything, when the game was finally complete and released, he talks about the "hey, let's play together again?" thing... it's "again" 'cause the first time was the demo
behind the moments we see through the game, Flowey still knows everything there is to know... specially about the paths to the happiest ending — which is what he actually wanted all along... he works all the time to "make up for the last time", to bring it all towards breaking the barrier... he's the one who tells everyone to go see us by the end, being very aware of everything that would happen... the happiest ending can only happen because of him
Undertale could be seen like playing a game Toby already played but (besides the annoying dog, as the now player 2) left himself in it — while we were playing as Chara, he stayed as Flowey
he named himself as Flowey, just like we can name ourselves
but is doomed to do as we wanted from the start — the demo —, to break the barrier and say goodbye to us again and again, out of what he promised us. and besides the wreck he is, he wants to stay loyal to us. that's why he still does it, and then lets us go, every time
and still, he didn't want us to leave
he also wished we could continue playing. we had lots of fun, but in the end, both knew we couldn't... not if we wanted the happiest ending for every character we met and loved
but he always forgets we got to it if you decide to go for a TRUE RESET. almost as a way to give himself a little of mercy — imagine losing your best friend again and again and remembering it every time, never being able to keep them, but also never being able to keep the ending you both keep working so hard for...
and without remembering, we can play it all again, as if it was the first time

any aus of your choice, what're their relationship/dynamic with their world's frisk or chara?
Undertale
Frisk is family to Sans and Papyrus, not quite anything specifically defined, their just like "little sibling-nibling-child who stays over sometimes". They and Sans had a slightly strained relationship for a while after their final reset, but they bonded post-pacifist. Them and Papyrus are best buds.
Underfell
Red and Edge are the guardians of Ruby. Not sibling or parent, just guardians. They helped Ruby get through Snowdin and Waterfall, despite going against the royal guard and Asgore to do so. Their extremely protective of them, for good reason.
Underswap
Faith is their little sibling. Unlike the other worlds, Blue and Rus prefer more defined terms with most things. Blue adored Faith from the beginning, he saw this little slightly injured human and was already signing mental adoption papers. Rus, on the other hand, was pretty nonchalant with them for the first few pacifist runs. Once he knew they could reset, he didn't blame them for do multiple pacifists in a row, he would've done the same. But when the genocide routes started, he became pretty bitter towards them. It took a long time for him to warm back up to them once they did a final pacifist.
Reapertale
Angel and Demo- Reapertale's Frisk and Chara- are Reaper's step-kids, pretty much. His relationship with Life isn't quite a defined one, but the two call him dad, and call Soul uncle, so he's taken it in stride. as far as the kids are concerned, they have one mom and three dads (Reaper, Geno, Asgore)
Echotale
Also not particularly defined. Somewhere between youngest sibling, eldest nibling, and middle cousin. Chain (Frisk) is 18 in my Echotale, but they've known G!S since they were 12 or so. G!S, Chain, and Patch are the only three people remaining in the underground, so they're sort of required to get along.
Killer
Technically Killer is his Frisk. When he absorbed Frisk's soul, he retained his own consciousness as Sans, but added Frisk and Chara onto it. Chara's actually the one controlling his body most of the time, 'Killer' is the combonation of the three of them, not just Sans' nickname. Frisk very rarely gains control, but when they do, their very distressed. The other Bad Sanses tend to stay away when Frisk is in control, partially because they have vendettas against Frisk, and partially because they don't want to scare Frisk. Killer as a whole can't remember any of their memories, only the ones from his timeline and after, but he never has recollection of Frisk coming forward, as Chara blocks them out. I'm not even sure he's aware Frisk is part of him.
If i had to nickname them indivually, it'd be Bullseye (Sans), Nyx (Chara), and Lilac (Frisk). In my other AUs that include Killer, he either goes by Bullseye or Nyx, depending on the events. Bullseye is what happens when Sans gets back control and tries to be himself again, Nyx is what happens when Chara completely overrides the control.

If you've played any Undertale fan games what have you played? And how would you rank them?
I have played Undertale Yellow a lot of Underfell demos that weren't finished TS Underswap and Outertale
I would say Yellow is the best because it's the closest to UT it could perfectly be canon and is better written than Deltarune though the shades of justice mod is the best
Then you have Outertale the forced Soriel and change of boss suck ass along with the forced Chara narrator but otherwise it's solid
TS!Underswap kinda sucks because both Sans and Papyrus are just canon Papyrus and that defeats the purpose of a swap but the concept ain't that bad

- Fallen Fates - Undertale Prequel Full Fangame (?)
Fallen Fates is an Undertale Prequel that aims to follow the "What if you got to play as Chara when they originally fell into the Underground?"
Status: LONG Hiatus. Stuck on concept development as the lead project head is busy with his career. Hopefully, we can jump-start development soon! But we're not fully sure WHAT type of game it'll be. So despite being an old project, it's been rebooted and on hold. That said the team really does want to make this game regardless of how long it takes.
- Sensational Studio's Underswap - Undertale AU Full Fangame
An Underswap fangame that isn't what it seems... it aims to be an exciting re-imagining of Undertale with some Deltarune inspiration.
Status: VERY active development. While not publically discussed, the game has been in stead development this whole time.
- Alteration - Undertale AU (I'm a writer, NOT co-director)
On hold as the project lead is writing a draft. I help with the world-building and concept art. Not much I can say on this one as it's been rebooted.

- Angel's Lullaby - Undertale Prequel Full Fangame
An ambitious Prequel that aims to be a "next console (DS) style prequel" that covers the Human and Monster War. Following a new protagonist, a Zombie, who is stuck between both sides of the conflict. Use your unique abilities to form a party and decide which side you'll join. Explore the Island of Monsters and uncover their past and secrets. Can you stop the war?
Status: MESSY. Ok so like. This is my fault 100%. We've switched engines MULTIPLE times and that meant re-coding things every time. Outside the battle system, the game's systems are 90% done. Cutscenes, dialogue, menus, save system, etc. So it's CLOSE to becoming a demo but I simply have been burnt out + don't have much time in the day to work on this. However, I DO think I'll keep working on this as the gameplay is fresh and exciting, and my love for the characters are coming back.
- NightFell - Underfell AU Full Fangame
Jackie is just a regular human teenager who stumbles upon a gateway into hell. There, they'll face the monsters who live on Mt.Crown and are stuck here. There's only one rule in this place: Kill or Be Killed!
A very different take on Underfell, that aims to place the Undertale cast and push them into an Underfell society instead of them having always been in one.
This is honestly my favorite project. It's built on the ideas I developed from a canceled fangame called Spookytale, with permission from Jevil to continue the concepts. My most favorite OC ever, Pumpkin, is in this game. While I am waiting for the DR engine my friend Lasers and I are working on to be made first, Nightfell is honestly the least ambitious and most fun game to make. While the story is a rough draft, it's the most complete. I ADORE this game. I'm so excited to make it.
- Fallen Royalty / New Royals - A webcomic / Video game Combo
An Everybody Lives AU that aims to take a hard look to what it'd be like to actually be resurrected. Deals with the themes of growing up, moving past trauma and accepting a second chance at life.
Originally an askblog from 5 years ago, Fallen Royalty is a rebooted comic that I work on. It has a video game adaption, New Royals, as well as video-game segments for the sidestories. Kinda stuck in development at the moment, as I got [redacted] to work on. But the newest Sidestory, DOWN, is in development and should be out soon-ish.
This is my magnum opus, my love letter to Undertale. I have to make a version of this story that's complete and to my best of writing. The tumblr askblog version, while finished, is missing chunks of the story. Follow me at @askfallenroyalty to see it's development
Danny Phantom
- Electrical Undead - my default AU full of headcanons.
In short here are the main ones: Danny has an electrical/light core + full inverted colorscheme + No clones, Ellie is an AU counterpart instead + Nonbinary Sam and trans Danny + sentient portal
- Lingering Spirits - Farmboy!Danny + Nobody Knows AU
When the weird new kid, Danny, moves into town, strange incidents begin to occur. Ghostly sightings, unexplained phenomena, danger around every corner... Can Sam and Tucker get to the bottom of it before the whole town breaks into chaos?
A Horror AU with an angsty, bitter Danny. When his parents are taken during the portal accident, Danny and Jazz move in with Aunt Alicea. After an incident, the family moves to Amity.
So basically: Fallen Royatly is my main thing. SS will require me every few weeks to work on things. FF and NF are on hold. Angel's is in development, typically worked on every Monday but has been on hold since I moved. When I'm burnt out on working on Undertale stuff, I'll work on Danny Phantom stuff. I always have something going on so I keep myself active.

-In the pacifist route I noticed a few times where the narrator will talk using these > [ ] and I noticed whenever they use them they seem to be talking directly to the player or things from Chara's life
-when you go to the bed on the right, it just says "a bed" but the bed on the right says "if you laid down here you might not ever get up." there's really no reason for there to be such a passionate response from the narrator, unless it was, y'know, their deathbed.
"Statistics determine everything about you":
-It's a demo line so it's legitimacy is more up for debate. But I think it's very funny to see the Narrator showing off something Chara controls in such an obvious way, to the point of almost waxing poetic about it.

THE ALHAITHAM DEMO OH MY GOD
I love when the demos have interaction between characters! Kaveh, cyno and tighnari gossiping over a game of cards?? Iconic.
Also cyno little “I told you” just got me thinking how he and tighnari had an argument about how Alhaitham is or isn’t that strong like “i mean he looks very chill cyno” and cyno is like “YOU KNOW NOTHING OKAY”

I love Sumeru even more and I'm starting to think that it's really the best region out there, because of how closely related the characters are in a natural way, it feels so homely and natural and just right with them haaah
And yes he's so cute and so silly there too, his "of course not" when talking about Alhaitham being stronger than him despite how he got deflected effortlessly during his surprise attack
How both civil but also banter-y they are despite his opinion on him, and finally more Kaveh and Tighnari screentime in the puspa cafe, Alhaitham hanging out with them despite his friendless reputation
I love them, I just wish the male population of Sumeru charas don't end with just them cuz they're really a declining species
I'm sorry it was Alhaitham's demo but you focused on Cyno so I also got carried away too hahaha

Notes from research on showreels
I was looking up tips for creating a showreel - specifically one for sound - so compiled some of the stuff I found. The first source had a lot of SD tips as well, so I included them.
Here's all my notes and sources on what I read!
6 Tips For Creating Your First Sound Design Showreel: | A Sound Effect
[mostly for game design but still useful cause doing design for games would be a shout]
Start with a Stereo bed for all generic "base" things (room tone, wind, general ambience) than add SFX in mono for stuff that makes noise - and automate that to camera position
Unique soundscape and ambience for each different camera position
(more for games) Little things matter when doing foley, beef it up - when cloth moves it should move, zippers, bodyfalls and impacts can always be bigger than you think. Each chara has different outfit, therefore have fun with deciding how that outfit sounds when it moves
Make stereo SFX mono : When things in distance sound too 'wide' due to source mats, and therefore doesn't sound like its positioned correctly, make things mono.
Related to above - if source sounds too stereo but needs to sound wide, convert source SFX to mono and add stereo reverb + widening plugins (Valhalla Supermassive and iZotope Ozone Imager are free recommendations)
For redesigns, replace what music is doing in the scene with cinematic SFX (i.e: for a horror scene, add "metal hits, drones, and risers to emphasise all of the key story beats")

Keep it short - 1 to 1.5 minutes in length - studios look at a lot of reels
Start and End well - begin and end the reel with your best work, specifically ending with your second best piece and starting with the first. But keep in mind that the rest should still be decent work
Think of showreel as an ad; which aren't usually more than 30 seconds long. You are selling something.
(More for animation) match your reel to the studio! for instance, don't put in Orc models if a studio does architecture visualization.

once I get a rough idea of what to put into it, going into AE and/or Blender and mocking up some transitions and short filler to design to in order to transition from clip to clip could be a good idea

Label your responsibilities - make everything you did clear.
Add details to your credits - if your doing sound design, your doing audio editing as well most of the time. Foley Artist, Recording Engineer, VO record, ADR, mixing engineer, music editor, and music supervisor are all valid credits that you probably have done.
