billions also comedy gold presenting winston as a scapegoat for abuse culture fans when it's like but hey it can't be actual scapegoating if you Enjoy It or consider it Justified or experience Reassurance from Its Opportunity For A Group Cohesion Substitute For A Cohesion Based On An Inherent Equal Degree Of Belonging, The Absence Of Which Allows For, Encourages, Reinforces, & Rewards Scapegoating
it can't be Bullying if someone's Weird or you Just Don't Personally Like Them or Nobody's Actually Stopping You, Maybe At Least If They Don't See Too Much Of It, Maybe Others Are Supporting It
it can't be Abuse if you're just doing things Normally or are Following Rules or Aren't Feeling Malicious And Aren't Getting Divine Revelations Otherwise and probably it's just that a lot of abnormal people are being whiny &/or unfair &/or the Real malicious ones. kinda just like how that scapegoat is the real person ruining everything and really just forcing you to treat them like this
#might note hardly limited to billions; the series doing bog standard suffocatingly common [Being Normal can't be abusive] replication#nor is their Unaware Replication Of [it can't be ableist if i'm not reacting to ppl who walked up & said Hi I'm Autistic]#well abuse & traumatic treatment can't be Everywhere. like how umm sexism can't be everywhere. neither can white supremacy. ableism. cmon.#oh please not everything can be political. Just Be Normal. which makes it ''apolitical.''#now we all agree abuse can't ever be made palatable; insulated; easy. now ppl doing it never said it wasn't That bad.#if they did they must have been maliciously lying. whereas when i say it can't have been That bad; i mean it :)#and if that person says it was; well they must be lying. or clueless. or a pussy. or scheming to destroy me. Must be. Gotta#& we wouldn't be able to look around & see contexts of imbalance. who's vulnerable. who's life gets smaller. who's supported automatically#who's supported if someone even posits they May have done anything like No; Impossible; now instantly definitely get their ass#you can just go on all day about the ''um i'm just the Realistic Normality vessel'' arguments made boundlessly in bad faith#being like ohh Everyday Interactions / ''Normal'' Semi/Public Situations Can't Be Uncomfortable Imbalanced Dangerous Abusive....#if they are that must be So Rare & created only by Rare Bad Actors with Malicious Mens Rea (itself a great concept to make any act Okay)#something framed as Extreme must be an outlier. could never be part of everyone's everyday life & some much more than others.#could never be what's defined as Normal (associated with Superiority) like how Abuse can't be shit i'd think of as Normal#like how damn if ya don't just wanna kill the autistic coworker and everyone agrees & would clap & cheer if you did And That's Great#you'd have to feel Weird / Abnormal about it! b/c Weirdness & Abnormality is what's bad!#like the autism or the cptsd (the Real abuse can only be: inflicting the existence of a victim's survival skills on Superior Normals)#or whatever else gets pathologized with Polite ABA arguments about how it's not ''social skills'' so hide it or suffer the consequences#winston billions#having that perspective too like oh [our blessed successful conformity] [their barbaric xyz Issues]#if the best you can argue for or against smthing is as Normal or Weird respectively like. no. what's behind that door#the authority figure/s who must be supported lest this all crumble. vs the ruinerrrrrr#billions recognizing winston & tuk the next most shitted on would probably get along & have a mutually supportive friendship#billions also recognizing that mutual support better not be Allowed to get that far. lest this all crumble#like look see we Knew it. we knew the bottom tier ppl who don't really belong in the group who we bully & scapegoat are Always Ruining It.

Via The Guardian - âI was sent the book and my agents thought it wouldnât necessarily be in my wheelhouse,â Colin admits. âBut within 50 pages I knew I wanted to make it. To some people itâs bleak and violent, but I love that about it. It seems to say something very important about what drives us as human beings, so it made sense for me, somehow. It tuned into everything else Iâve done.â
âIâve never played a character with so little compunction or apology or who does things this despicable,â says Colin of a figure who is as barbaric to his fellow man as he is to animals.
âI ate a lot and lifted some heavy weights. I looked at Victorian boxers and dockers, trying to get the belly and the muscle. It was not done under the supervision of medical professionals at all and was really ill advised.â
The day they said: âWeâre heading back to open water,â Iâll never forget the relief I felt that nobody died.â
youtube
The cast and crew took on the polar plunge, by jumping into the Arctic waters in their pants. There was a lot of swearing! đ€Ź
youtube
I think Henry Drax is the darkest role Colin Farrell has played. Itâs quite gruesome to watch. I also think Stephen Graham is an incredible actor (Line of Duty, Gangs of New York).
At BFI, Colin said: âIt was one of two times in my life where you couldnât take off the costume, I couldnât really step away from the character. It was always with me.â
âWe were telling a very ugly story in a very beautiful place,â he added. âThere was something in that contrast or contradiction that was very powerful.â

Not sure if you already made one, but what are your thoughts on Leopard Skin? I haven't gotten a chance to watch it yet, but is it good or just a good opportunity to watch Amelia and Carla again???
I wouldnât qualify it as good, but it is a fun easy binge. Itâs better than Jett, in that the characters feel more like human beings and less âhas this man EVER spoken to a womanââbut it still asks the actors to do 99.9% of the work while the writingâŠisâŠpresent.
Personally, I liked it fine as a cotton candy. The women are all gorgeous, the plot is (mostly) coherent, and thereâs a completely unhinged sapphic âlove?â story. Itâs great if you want to see pretty peopleâs butts and have some surprisingly funny one-liners. And see Carla Gugino make out with a lady. But I wouldnât go so far as to call it quality television.
#ask#leopard skin#leopard skin spoilers#the finale is completely messy and I had many questions#but as a limited series that was mostly an excuse for like 8 actors to chill on a beach for a while? not a bad time#and itâs fun to see AE flex her comedy chops#honestly itâs at its best when itâs a comedy. when it tries to be Poetic it feels like an 11 year old being âdeepâ#but yeah. itâs worth a watch. you can binge it in a single night

Hi! Iâd like to request a John âBuckyâ Egan fic where he tries several times to flirt with the reader, but the reader is super oblivious about it and just thinks heâs being nice. It becomes something everyone on base talks about and gets invested in. Maybe other people set up a scheme to get them together or make the reader realize how he feels. Idk, just something funny and cute like that ig đ
Thank you so much for requesting, Nonnie, Iâve been having so much fun with these Masters of the Air requests! I loved getting to write for our best boy Bucky đ„° Shoutout to @blurredcolourâs Trust fic (an absolute masterpiece, check it out yâall!) for helping with the writers block on this one đ
(Reminder that requests are open! Feel free to check out some of my favorite prompt lists in my pinned post đ)
Disclaimer: This is a work of fiction based off the portrayal by the actors in the Apple TV+ series. I hold nothing but respect for the real life individuals referenced within.
Oblivious
âThereâs my favorite nurse!â
You rolled your eyes at the phrase that announced John âBuckyâ Eganâs every visit to sickbay.
âHello, Major,â you said, turning to greet him with a mock-exasperated smile.
Bucky clutched a hand to his heart as if wounded, a hurt expression on his face. âHow many times do I gotta tell you to call me Bucky, sweetheart?â
âAt least a few more times, Major,â you reply, unable to hide a smile at the usual volley of friendly banter.
Major John Egan had been unusually friendly to you since the first moment heâd sauntered in to introduce himself to the medical staff as Air Exec. Your colleagues had blushed afterward and playfully insisted that he had paid you more attention than the others, but you just laughed and shook your head, insisting that he was just being nice.
This visit was simply another instance of Bucky being friendly to you; well, that and Harry Crosbyâs airsickness had gotten the better of him again and he was checking up on the navigator.
You stepped aside as Bucky approached Harryâs cot, ready to update him on the goings-on since the last mission had returned.
He threw you a kind smile before perching on the stool next to Harry.
âHowâs my girl treatinâ you, Crosby?â
Harry happily told him how the base had gotten a new shipment of airsickness pills and you had slipped him a spare box for his own personal use, and Buckyâs smile grew wider and wider.
You were glad to see how happy he was at the news that his friend was feeling better, and you quietly excused yourself to tend to the other patients.
Bucky sighed as you walked away.
âShe still hasnât picked up on it, huh?â
âNo, Croz, she hasnât.â sighed Bucky, âShe thinks Iâm just beinâ⊠nice or friendly or something. Which I am!â He added hurriedly, âBut I justâŠI like her so much. I wish sheâd notice.â
âShe will, buddy,â Harry replied, with a comforting pat on his friendâs hand, âShe will.â
Bucky headed out after a few more minutes of conversation, giving you a wink and a smile as he walked past your station.
âBucky visited again, huh?â Rebecca, one of your fellow nurses, sidled up next to you with a teasing grin.
âYes, Major Egan came by to visit Lieutenant Crosby,â you replied, putting emphasis on their ranks.
âYouâre sure thatâs all he was here for? Somehow he never shows up here without an excuse to see youâŠâ
âHeâs just being nice, Becca,â you insisted, âYou know how these soldier boys are.â
âBut heâs alwaysââ
âBecca,â you cut her off as gently as you can, âI really donât wanna talk about this anymore.â
âAlright, alright,â she held her hands up in surrender, âBucky is an off-limits topic, gotcha.â
The conversation turned to the current hot gossip, and you idly chimed in when it seemed appropriate, losing yourself in your routine tasks.
Rebecca broke off to check on Harry again, narrowing her eyes as she noticed Harry watching you.
âSomething Nurse L/N can help you with, Crosby?â
He jumped, gaze darting to Rebecca as she approached.
âNo maâam, I justâŠâ
He scrambled to think of some excuse, but all he could come up with was: âIâm trying to think of some way to get Y/N to notice Bucky!â
Rebecca blinked in surprise, then plopped down onto the stool next to his bed, leaning in conspiratorially.
âOh thank goodness itâs not just me! Heâs been at it for months but the poor girlâs just so obliviousâŠâ
âI keep telling him to just talk to her like a normal person, but he insists on dancing around it!â Harry instantly agreed, glad to have someone besides Jean to talk to about this. âHeâs been so distracted lately. If he doesnât do something soon, Iâm worried it might start to affect his flying.â
Rebecca pressed her lips into a thin line, twisting a strand of hair worriedly.
After a few moments of quiet, she spoke up again, green eyes sparkling with mischief.
âIâve got an idea.â
âââ
âHey Bucky,â Harry said at breakfast the next morning, âIâm gonna pop down to the infirmary to visit Winks, wanna come with?â
Bucky quickly agreedâ heâd been meaning to check on Winks yesterday as well as Croz, but got caught up in⊠well, you.
As they entered, Bucky made a beeline for Winks while Harry caught Rebeccaâs eye and gave a subtle nod, which she returned, signaling her part of the plan was complete.
She had removed the step stool you always used from one of the supply closets, now hidden under one of the cots nearby. When you werenât able to reach something on one of the higher shelves, wellâŠ
Good thing Bucky was so tall.
âY/N, would you mind grabbing some more bandages for me? My stationâs running low.â
âSure thing, Becca!â You called, stepping away from your current station to check the supply closet.
âBeccaâŠâ your confused voice called from the closet, âDo you know where the stepstool went?â
âItâs not there?â She called back, sounding equally confused. âLetâs see, umâŠâ
She scanned the room, putting on a good show of looking for someone who could help.
âOh, Bucky! Would you mind helping Nurse L/N grab something from the supply closet for me?â
âNo problem, Becca,â came his reply, accompanied with his trademark winning smile as he nodded to Winks and made his way over to the supply closet.
It was much smaller than heâd anticipated, and barely half a foot was all that separated you as he asked, âAlright, what do ya need, sweetheaââ
The pet name was cut off by the sound of the supply closet door closing.
And locking.
You lunged for the handle as Bucky reached up to turn on the single lightbulb, both of you calling out in confusion.
âBecca! What?â
âCâmon, guys, this isnât funny!â
Harryâs voice came through the door, clear and determined.
âJust tell her how you feel, Bucky! Your tactic clearly isnât working!â
âIâ what?â You turned to Bucky, hoping he knew what in the world they were talking about.
Bucky hesitated, but seeing as it seemed he had no choiceâŠ
âWell this isnât⊠exactly how I wanted to do it, butâŠâ He took a deep breath, twisting his fingers together in an uncharacteristic display of anxiety, âI really like you, doll. Iâve liked you since I first laid eyes on you. And Iâve tried every way I know how to tell you, but nothinâ worked, soâŠâ He gestured around at the supply closet, âI guess it came to this? Which wasnât my idea, by the way. Just for the record. I would neverâŠâ
His voice faltered, and you realized just how close you were to him. You didnât remember moving forward. You were just suddenly there, so close the two of you were almost breathing each otherâs air.
âYou⊠you like me?â
Bucky couldnât help but laugh at that.
âDoll, you think I call every pretty girl workinâ here my favorite nurse?â
You flushed at the compliment.
âI thought you were just being nice, I didnâtâŠâ
âI mean, I was beinâ nice,â He said with a shrug, grinning, âJust not quite in the way you were thinking.â
Buckyâs eyes flicked down to your mouth, and being this close to you, he couldnât hide the bob of his throat as he swallowed nervously.
âIâd, uh. Iâd really like to kiss you right now, if thatâs alright with you, sweetheart.â
You nodded slowly, âI think Iâd really like that, Major Egan.â
âItâs Bucky, sweetheart,â he murmured softly as he leaned in, capturing your lips.
You may or may not have spent more than a few lonely nights in your bunk imagining what it would be like to kiss Major John Egan.
Your imaginings were nothing compared to reality.
This was magic unlike anything you could have dreamed.
Your arms wound around his neck as his wrapped around your waist, pulling you flush against him. You toyed with the dark curls at the nape of his neck as he slanted his mouth against yours, deepening the kiss. Needing to be closer, you tried to step towards him, but merely succeeded in pressing him back against the shelves.
Ordinarily you would apologize, but something like a thrill ran up your spine when you felt him grin into the kiss as his back hit the shelves, knocking rolls of bandages and boxes of gauze onto the floor.
His right hand moved to cup your cheek, keeping your lips connected as his other hand splayed across your back, pulling you impossibly closer as you arched into him.
You could still feel him grinning as he murmured against your lips, âKnew you were feisty under that good girl act.â
âBucky,â you whined softly as he pulled away from you, chest heaving.
âOh, now she uses my name,â he teased breathlessly, bumping his nose playfully against yours.
The two of you flinched as sunlight spilled into the dim closet, a harsh change from the dingy yellow lightbulb you had become accustomed to.
Harry and Rebecca stood in the doorway, wearing twin smug grins.
âLooks like our work here is done,â Becca said, shooting you a wink as she bid farewell to Harry with a two-fingered salute, âPleasure working with you, Lieutenant Crosby.â
âSame to you, Nurse Carter,â Harry replied, and he turned back to the two of you, a genuine smile on his face.
âAbout time, Bucky.â
âYeah, yeah,â Bucky waved off his friendâs I told you so, âYou gonna congratulate me or what?â
âCongratulations,â came Harryâs mock-put-out reply, accompanied by a genuinely congratulatory clap on his arm. âYou got a good one. And it only took months of unsuccessful flirtingââ
âHey, I got her in the end, didnât I?â He squeezed you closer, grinning down at you.
Your lipstick was all over his mouth, and youâre sure the Victory Red on your own lips was in no better shape.
You couldnât bring yourself to care, however, as he pulled you in for a tender kiss.
Which you broke for a moment to point out, âHe isnât wrong, you know, it was months of unsuccessfulââ
Your teasing was promptly cut off with a âshushâ mumbled against your lips as Bucky silenced you with a kiss.

Propaganda
Anna May Wong (The Thief of Bagdad, Shanghai Express)âWong was the first Chinese American movie star, arguably the first Asian woman to make it big in American films. Though the racism of the time often forced her into stereotypical roles, awarded Asian leading roles to white actors in yellowface, and prohibited on-screen romance between actors of different races, she delivered powerful and memorable performances. When Hollywood bigotry got to be too much, she made movies in Europe. Wong was intellectually curious, a fashion icon, and a strong advocate for authentic Asian representation in cinema. And, notably for the purposes of this tournament, absolutely gorgeous.
Josephine Baker (The Siren of the Tropics, ZouZou)â Josephine Baker was an American born actress, singer, and utter icon of the period, creating the 1920s banana skirt look. She was the first black woman to star in a major motion film. She fought in the French resistance in WWII, given a Legion of Honour, as well as refusing to perform in segregated theatres in the US. She was bisexual, a fighter, and overall an absolutely incredible woman as well as being extremely attractive.
This is round 6 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]
Anna May Wong propaganda:
"She so so gorgeous!! Due to Hollywood racism she was pretty limited in the roles she got to play but even despite that sheâs so captivating and deserves to be known as a leading lady in her own right!! When sheâs on screen in Shanghai Express I canât look away, which is saying something because Marlene Dietrich is also in that film."
"SHE IS ON THE BACK OF QUARTERS also she was very smart and able to speak multiple languages and is a fashion icon on top of the acting/singing"
"Paved the way for Asian American actresses AND TOTAL HOTTIE!!! She broke boundaries and made it her mission to smash stereotypes of Asian women in western film (at the time, they were either protrayed them as delicate and demure or scheming and evil). In 1951, she made history with her television show The Gallery of Madame Liu-Tsong, the first-ever U.S. television show starring an Asian-American series lead (paraphrased from Wikipedia). Also, never married and rumor has it that she had an affair with Marlene Dietrich. We love a Controversial Queen!"
"She's got that Silent Era smoulderâą that I think transcends the very stereotypical roles in which she was typically cast. Also looks very hot smouldering opposite Marlene Dietrich in "Shanghai Express"; there's kiss energy there."
"Hot as hell and chronically overlooked in her time, she's truly phenomenal and absolutely stunning"
"A story of stardom unavoidably marred by Hollywood racism; Wong's early-career hype was significantly derailed by the higher-up's reluctance to have an Asian lead, and things only got worse when the Hayes code came down and she suddenly *couldn't* be shown kissing a white man--even if that white man was in yellowface. After being shoved into the Dragon Lady role one too many times, she took her career to other continents for many years. Still, she came back to America eventually, being more selective in her roles, speaking out against Asian stereotypes, and in the midst of all of this finding the time to be awarded both the title of "World's Best Dressed Woman" by Mayfair Mannequin Society of New York and an honorary doctorate by Peking University."
"Incredible beauty, incredible actress, incredible story."
"-flapper fashion ICON. look up her fits please <3 -rumors of lesbianism due to her Close Friendships with marlene dietrich & cecil cunningham, among others -leveraged her star power to criticize the racist depictions of Chinese and Asian characters in Hollywood, as well as raise money and popular support for China & Chinese refugees in the 1930s and 40s. -face card REFUSED to decline"
Josephine Baker:
Black, American-born, French dancer and singer. Phenomenal sensation, took music-halls by storm. Famous in the silent film era.
Let's talk La Revue Negre, Shuffle Along. The iconique banana outfit? But also getting a Croix de Guerre and full military honors at burial in Paris due to working with the Resistance.
She exuded sex, was a beautiful dancer, vivacious, and her silliness and humor added to her attractiveness. She looked just as good in drag too.
So I know she was more famous for other stuff than movies and her movies werenât Hollywood but my first exposure to her was in her films so Iâve always thought of her as a film actress first and foremost. Also she was the first black woman to star in a major motion picture so I think that warrants an entry
Iconic! Just look up anything about her life. She was a fascinating woman.
