Edith: Hey there! You’re starting to waddle like a duck.
Gemma: (dryly) Thanks for noticing.
Edith: You’re welcome. This here is Brad, Brad Taggart.
B’zad: I’m pleased to meet you, Gemma.
Gemma: The pleasure is all mine.
Edith: He’s the guy I lost my V-card to in the barn.
Gemma’s mouth opened, and her eyes grew big.
Edith: Shut your mouth before you suck down a fly. I was wrong about the alien stuff. We were both tripping, and I might have hallucinated a bit.
Gemma: (slowly) Okay.
Edith: He came back to town to find me. I guess I’m unforgettable.
Edith cackled while B’zad smiled at her like she hung the moon.
Gemma looked from one to another. Did Brad know how crazy Edith was? Was he crazy, too? Was he who he said he was? Was Edith being conned?
Edith: (loudly) Listen here, everyone! I have an announcement to make! Brad and I are getting hitched!
The room broke out in a discordant mixture of congratulations and annoyed seniors who had counted on winning the betting pool.
Gemma: (stunned) You-- You are-- You’re getting married? When?
Edith: Just as soon as we can sort out the living arrangements.
Gemma: That soon?
Edith: I’m seventy-three for chrissakes. You expect me to have a long engagement? And look who’s talking, Miss Married-Markus-months-after-meeting-him.
Gemma: Touché.
Edith: (to B’zad) Hold on. I need to have a girl talk with Gremma.
Edith grabbed Gemma’s arm with surprising strength and led Gemma down the hall.
Gemma: That is one helluva grip, Edith.
Edith: It comes from giving hand jobs. I can’t give head anymore because my false teeth would fall out. And I like my teeth in when I’m getting laid.
Gemma: Oh my gods! I did not need to know that.
Edith sniffed disdainfully and shook her head.
Edith: You’re such a puritan. How you landed a hot-blooded man like Markus, I’ll never know.
Gemma: I am not a puritan! We have a very adventurous sex life.
Edith: (dismissively) If you say so, honey. Listen, Brad wants to find the kid to check on him.
Gemma: The baby you gave up for adoption?
Edith: Yeah. Not right away. We gotta figure out our living arrangements first. But soon.
Gemma didn’t need one more thing on her plate, but she didn’t want to let her friend down. Plus, as Edith said, she was seventy-three. Alfred lost his son at too young of an age and missed the opportunity to meet his granddaughter.
Gemma: Of course. Just say the word, and I’ll do everything that I can.
Edith: You’re a good friend, Gemma.
Gemma: Does the engagement mean you’ll stop sending me AI nudes? And you’ll stop writing reverse harem romances featuring you, Oscar, Ivan, and Wyatt.
Edith scoffed and rolled her eyes.
Edith As if! I’m trying out a new genre called Omegaverse and just wrote my first knotting scene.

Family Feud Nominations, Who is the Best Doctor Who Family
If I've missed a character out of one of the families let me know (within reason, I imagine all these families are massive in the EU, so prioritise tv or significant characters)
Currently, the only rule is no families may inculde anyone who is even ambiguously The Doctor, it'll get super complicated super fast imo
Any characters, eg River, who can link up multiple different families to create a single massive family unit will be treated on a case by case basis. If it is possible to pick one of the smaller family units that they are a part of to include them in while not including them in any of the others (in a way everyone will agree at least makes sense) they will be included in that family only, otherwise they will not be included
Please bare in mind when you are nominating that I am hoping to keep the number of nominations under 64 to run this as a mini-tournament. This is not a hard rule so if nominations do exceed 64 its not a big deal, just something I'd like everyone to bare in mind

Death ed Stuart David Schiff
Death ed Stuart David Schiff 1982, Playboy Paperbacks
Two Bottles of Relish by Lord Dunsany (orig Time & Tide, Nov 12, 1932)
A variation on a locked door mystery - a body disposal without leaving the house mystery. This one stayed with me since childhood, though the premise wasn't as locked in as it could be.
Deathtracks by Dennis Etchison
A Nielson family survey taker visits a couple who look for hidden messages in TV laugh tracks to explain why their son died in Vietnam.
Always Together by Hugh B. Cave
One elderly twin murders the other and keeps up a ruse that she's still alive. A good setup for a twist in the tale which never happens.
Toilet Paper Run by Juleen Brantingham
Engaging story set in a girls' reform school, but the ending felt tacked on to fit the genre.
The Green Parrot by Joseph Payne Brennan (orig Weird Tales, July 1952)
Another boring entry in the "that person you thought was alive turns out was already dead" style of ghost story.
Fragment from a Charred Diary by Davis Grubb
Comedy piece about a man using a voodoo doll to commit the political assassinations of the 1960s, escalating from there.
The Scarf by Bernice Balfour
A disfigured woman concealing her face with a scarf and a curious newspaper delivery boy.
Sentences by Richard Christian Matheson
Comedy twist in the tale about a man getting his life rewritten.
Prickly by David A. Riley
A child corrupting Satanist with a monkey familiar kills himself in a British tenement building. Years later, strange creatures scuttle the halls, and children sing nursery rhymes about Prickly.
The Kennel by Maurice Level (orig Tales of Mystery and Horror, 1920)
A cuckold husband finds the body of his wife's lover and disposes of it.
Onawa by Alan Ryan
An adoptive native girl with a taste for blood
A Telephone Booth by Wade Kenny
A gambler can get tips from the future from a pay phone.
Straw Goat by Ken Wiseman
Folk horror with murderous farmers and a sacrificial straw goat.
Horrible Imaginings by Fritz Leiber
Long piece about a creep being obsessed with his neighbor, which I skipped.
The Blind Spot by Saki (orig Beasts and Super-Beasts, 1914)
Comedy piece about a killer servant.
The Dust by Al Sarrantonio
A simpleton shut-in is obsessed with dust.
It Grows on You by Stephen King
A vignette of small town misery which feels more like background to a fuller story. It's been re-written a few times, and later versions may be more tied in to the Castle Rock mythos and be more explicitly horrific. Something about a house getting a new wing built connected with people dying, but not much meat on the bones here.
The Copper Bowl by George Fielding Eliot (orig Weird Tales, December 1928)
Nasty proto-shudder pulp yellow peril story of a French Legionnaire's love being tortured by a Chinese despot.

Alfred: I have enjoyed our afternoon, ladies.
Aisla: So have I, Al-- What should I call you?
Alfred: My grandfather was called “Pops.” How about that?
Aisla: Perfect, Pops.
Edith: Yoohoo, Gemma! Can I talk to you?
Gemma: I’ll be back shortly.
Alfred: She will not be back shortly. Edith could talk the hind legs off a donkey.
Aisla: (laughing) Who is the man with Edith?
Alfred: That is her latest gentleman caller. There’s a betting pool to see how long he’ll last. There’s something different about him, or I should say that Edith acts differently around him. I think he might stick around.

Take a look at the ole women - they are so pussy dumb offensive to be near my body. These you are seeing are the ole women who managed the black men that I am talking about. Ole shit farts of Pussys that admits they are the reasons and the blame. It is such a disgrace that having the ole black woman around me hurts as much to have the blacks around me.
The cops knew too and tried to push the victim on Hispanics who fought too hard.
Everybody knows the black man is GAY. Shush shush. Mom kept her son safe and they killed her to have tried to get closer to her son.
Me. Terry Dwayne Ashford - to be Black is to be saying this is funny and it killed all those people and have been doing it as blacks for all those years until Carolyn Bernice Ashford attacked Mom and was left to meet me. The world goes to hell now with Carolyn Bernice Ashford Davis.
God please let me be in the worse torture the world has ever seen. Amen. They brought N8GGERS around my life and for that alone I have them Killed. That should be the sentiment one feels whenever anyone looks at my face.
When Mom said leave him alone - you brought N8GGERS around me and you still have no better sense to have been doing it up until even today and he put you all away cuz you did that.
When you wanted him to be like a N8GGER for the white men who the GAY Whiter men were fucking the N8GGERS as FAGGITs Lying to you that they knew and that you knew too.
The white man doesn't believe him because the white man is the Whore being fucked by the N8GGERS that everyone is lying about.
The N8GGERS is lying to the women to steal properties from the black women who got anything for the HONKY, who is taking the dicks- fucking the N8GGERS in replacement for the women.
They all know and knew it and looking like black sick puppy dog whored out N8GGER women. The black Slit knows her man has a white man lover and is GAY - which is why mom kept her son she chose out of the GAY Gambling Gang Game getting fucked by men.

Matthew Lennox: Separation from Raven Bush, under her alias, "Silver Laventi", at UMass-Amherst; attempting to engage for Elks Club, the Drake family, to remove from David's vicinity and allow him to take a law career for the Winchester CIA undercover in Israeli biotech medical testing on "Goyim", humans that have done DXM.
Method: Interjection through a Coen, the "Chutzpah" family, and placement of Raven inside the German underground as a medical advisor.

National Paul Bunyan Day
This is a day dedicated to one of America’s most famous folklore heroes — National Paul Bunyan Day comes along only once a year, on June 28! We’re dusting off our old books about this mighty lumberjack and adding a bit of nostalgia to our day. Come, join us!
History of National Paul Bunyan Day
The character Paul Bunyan was brought to life by the stories lumberjacks from the Northeastern United States and Eastern Canada told, way back in the 18th century. They were all told orally and no original written account exists in the world. Even the etymology of the name is unknown, but some people believe it is related to the Québécois expression ‘bon yenne!,’ which is an exclamation of surprise or astonishment. Logging bunkhouses continued with the tradition of telling Paul Bunyan stories for decades after that, embellishing it with more and more details to make this lumberjack larger than life. Along the way, he also gained a companion, a giant blue-colored ox called Babe the Blue Ox, who was said to be a gift from Paul’s fellow woodsmen, Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone.
Paul Bunyan’s story was first written down by a journalist, James MacGillivray. However, this character was popularized by freelance writer and adman William Laughead when he created an advertising campaign for a logging company using Paul Bunyan stories. Soon, this character’s myth and tales spread far and wide around the U.S. and Canada, and he began to feature in many other promotional campaigns for products, services, and cities. Even today, many U.S. cities in the north-central side claim the title of being Paul Bunyan’s official home. Statues were erected in various places — a 26 foot tall animated Paul Bunyan at an amusement park in Minnesota as well as a 49-foot tall statue of Bunyan and a 35-foot statue of Babe the Blue Ox in Klamath, California — to honor this folktale.
Unlike most other folklore heroes, Paul Bunyan has an origin story. As the story goes, five storks were needed to carry this large newborn. As he became older, when he clapped his hands and laughed, windows shook and shattered. Another tale has him sawing the wooden legs off of his parents’ bed in the middle of the night — when he was only seven months old! Over the years, many theories about who Paul Bunyan is based on have been thought up and rejected. Some believe Bunyan was based on a French-Canadian logger named Fabian ‘Joe’ Fournier, who moved to Michigan after the American Civil War. He was strongly built with giant hands and was above six feet in height. Some time during this period, stories about Fournier merged with tales about a French-Canadian war hero named Bon Jean, and many believe Bunyan’s name comes from ‘Bon Jean’.
Today, stories about Paul Bunyan have appeared in more than 1,000 books; and this character is renowned as one of the most popular and recognizable characters in American folklore.

After a lengthy absence, I returned to Honolulu not only to celebrate Cindy’s birthday but also to engage in some business arrangement. Cindy agreed to join me for a two-day tour of various retailers and bakery shops. Our itinerary included a visit to the world’s busiest Costco located in Iwilei, Honolulu. Intriguingly, two employees informed me that this warehouse remains the world’s busiest, boasting a revenue exceeding $600 million last year.
Continuing our business tour, we explored two Safeways near Waikiki. I was pleased to find our products prominently displayed on their shelves. The employees shared that our products are well-received by the customers, which was heartening to hear.
I extend my deepest gratitude to our customers and shoppers. Their support and enjoyment of our products are the cornerstone of our family business. In my view, there’s nothing more rewarding than the satisfaction of our shoppers and the success of our customers. Amidst our business activities, we also sought out unique sweet treats, a quest that added an enjoyable flavor to our trip.
Another highlight was reuniting with old friends, Lâm and his wife LenhAnh, over dinner. We spent the evening reminiscing about our past. Lâm and I, both former refugees, arrived in the US with little more than hope. The harsh Midwest winters drove Lâm and his sibling to San Francisco, a journey that took five grueling days by bus. In San Francisco, without much support, Lâm and I both found our way to City College of San Francisco (CCSF). There, we worked under work-study programs and served as peer advisors for Ms. Bernice Griffin in 1981. Our paths diverged academically as I went to SFSU while Lâm attended UC Davis, where he met LenhAnh. Both joined the army, pursued medical careers, and rose to significant ranks. Lâm is now a surgeon for the army in Honolulu, and LenhAnh runs her own practice. They are proud parents of three accomplished children. Two boys are in medical field and a daughter is in finance.
Reflecting on our journey from poverty to where we are now, Lâm and I recognize the value of hard work and never take our life for granted. Reconnecting and sharing our stories with old friends was not only nostalgic but also a reaffirmation of the resilience and determination that have shaped our lives. We both afraid of failure and try to avoid being poor.
