Meyer's or Yellow-shouldered Long-winged Parrot. Also known as Meyer's Parrot (Poicephalus meyeri). Named after the German botanist and ornithologist Bernhard Meyer (1767-1836). There are 6 subspecies, with minor differences in color and habitat.
Meyer's Long-winged Parrot is the smallest representative of the genus of Long-winged Parrots. The body length is 21-25 cm, the tail is 5-6 cm. It is one of the most beautiful representatives of the genus of Long-winged Parrots. The color of the head, neck, chest, wings and tail is dominated by brown or warm gray tones with yellow blotches. The rump and the inside of the tail can have a color from bright green to bright blue. The back is gray. The beak is black. The iris is orange-red. The approximate age of the bird can be determined by the color of the iris: in young birds it is brown, in adults it is orange-red. The male and female do not differ in color.
Meyer's parrot lives in East and Central Africa. They inhabit sparse forests, acacia groves and shrub thickets near water bodies, savannas, and are found at an altitude of up to 1300 m above sea level. It feeds on seeds of various plants, flowers, inflorescences and fruits, vegetative parts of plants.
Meyer's long-winged parrots nest in tree hollows at high altitudes. The clutch usually contains 2-4 eggs, which the female incubates for 25-30 days. The male guards the nest and feeds the female, and subsequently participates in feeding the chicks.

Gloria Oladipo at The Guardian:
On Monday, Daniel Penny, a 26-year-old white man, was acquitted of all charges related to the 1 May 2023 killing of Jordan Neely, a 30-year-old unhoused Black man with severe mental illness, on a New York City subway train. Penny was charged with second-degree manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide after he choked Neely for nearly six minutes, causing his death. The Marine veteran claimed self-defense after an unarmed Neely made threats to passengers and complained of being hungry and thirsty, according to witness testimony. In a police interview following Neely’s death, Penny referred to Neely as “just a crackhead” who was “acting like a lunatic”. Experts say Penny’s acquittal fits into a longstanding pattern of how white vigilante crime is treated in the US, with white killers celebrated and Black victims denigrated.
“In situations where people of color have tried to defend themselves, it’s a whole different result,” said Mark Brodin, a professor of law at Boston College Law School. “It’s as transparent a double standard as you can ever imagine. And race is the only explanation. Class enters into it with Mr Neely, his mental problems entered into it. But race is at the top of the pyramid.” Despite widespread outrage about Neely’s killing in New York City, Penny received an onslaught of support from those on the far right after his arrest. A crowdfunding campaign for Penny’s legal fund amassed more than $2.9m in the months after the incident. (Neely’s burial funds, on the other hand, raised just $150,094.) The Fox News host Greg Gutfeld called Neely a “violent mess” who was “better at impersonating Michael Meyers than Michael Jackson”, referring to Neely’s previous impersonations of the pop star. And another Fox News pundit, Kayleigh McEnany, laughed alongside her colleagues at protesters who gathered to condemn Neely’s killing.
Following his acquittal, Penny has been praised by conservatives, including the Florida governor, Ron DeSantis; Ben Shapiro and Meghan McCain, who called those critical of Penny “lunatics”. Such commentary is part of an “unfortunate spiral” in which news outlets, platforms and people “demonize individuals for existing”, said the NAACP president, Derrick Johnson. “The fact that [Penny] called this individual [a] crackhead shows his state of mind. He didn’t see this person as someone who was human [or who] more or less had the right to live.” Brodin said that Penny’s acquittal was virtually certain, given the “history of the legal system sending these people out the back door at the courthouse. You can set your watch to it,” he said of cases in which white vigilantes claimed self-defense. “There’s just no accountability with these people.”
For example, George Zimmerman, who shot and killed Trayvon Martin, an unarmed Black teenager, in Florida in 2012, Kyle Rittenhouse, who killed two men and injured a third during a Black Lives Matters protest in Wisconsin in 2020, and Bernhard Goetz, who shot four Black teenagers on the New York City subway in 1984, were all acquitted. Vigilantes like Penny are also generally portrayed and celebrated as “heroes”, Brodin added. Goetz was hailed as the “subway savior” by New York tabloids. And Rittenhouse received messages of support and fundraisers following his arrest for first degree intentional homicide. (Rittenhouse’s victims were all white, but the protest he traveled to was against the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man. Rittenhouse’s defense team said that he traveled across state lines to the demonstration to “help people”.)
Acquittal of white vigilantes takes place for several reasons, said Brodin. For one, standards of self-defense are based on a perpetrator’s testimony that they believed they were in danger, with the burden of proof in a criminal case high and jurors being “vulnerable to fear mongering by the defense lawyers”.
The acquittal of Daniel Penny is yet more proof that White vigilante violence is A-OK.

In the first part, I discussed all the reasons why the Titanic was doomed to fail, in this episode, I get into the major players behind the tragedy. I also discuss the tragedy of the Titan, five curious tourists wanting to get a view of the century old wreck and died simply due to a lack of care and real scientific know-how behind the building of the Titan submersible, as well as the aftermath a year later. Before continuing this episode, please go back and listen to part one of the Unsinkable Titanic.
Thanks to Mike Meyers for the theme music, you can follow him on X @themikeshow42.
The background music of this episode is “Nearer My God To Thee”, this particular version is done by Bernhard Schuermann https://tinyurl.com/4my5b8dn a soulful and achingly beautiful song that played as the Titanic sank.

THE BEAST WITHIN (1982) – Episode 249 – Decades Of Horror 1980s

Join your faithful Grue Crew – Chad Hunt, Bill Mulligan, Crystal Cleveland, and Jeff Mohr – as they confront the over-the-top effects, excellent acting, and confusing story in The Beast Within (1982).

In the early 1980s, producer Harvey (The Goonies, The Lost Boys) Bernhard purchases an unfinished novel by Edward Levy and hires Tom (Fright Night, Child’s Play) Holland – his first feature film credit – to write the screenplay (from scratch). He follows this up by scooping up Philippe Mora, the talent behind Communion and The Howling II: Your Sister is a Werewolf (cue blank stare), to direct. The result is the often maligned creature feature The Beast Within (1982) featuring Paul Clemens, Ronny Cox, Bibi Besch, Don Gordon, R. G. Armstrong, Katherine Moffat, L. Q. Jones, Logan Ramsey, Luke Askeew, John Dennis Johnston, Meschach Taylor, and Ron Soble. While the make-up effects by  Thomas R. Burman (Prophecy, Altered States) are collectively praised, the premise received far more disparagingly negative critiques. Now it is time for the Grue Crew to settle the score. Is it a schlocky disaster or a grotesque cult-classic?
At the time of this writing, The Beast Within is available for streaming from Tubi and as PPV from Amazon and AppleTV. The film is available on physical media in Blu-ray format from SHOUT! Factory.
Every two weeks, Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1980s podcast will cover another horror film from the 1980s. The next episode’s film, chosen by Grue Crew for their sestercentennial episode (that’s 250th, Grue Belivers), will be Gremlins (1984), with guest host Ralph Miller who is one of the effects artists who worked on the film as part of Chris Walas’ crew. This should be fun!
Please let them know how they’re doing! They want to hear from you – the coolest, grooviest fans – so leave them a message or comment on the Gruesome Magazine Youtube channel, on the Gruesome Magazine website, or email the Decades of Horror 1980s podcast hosts at [email protected].

Grape Variety: Spätburgunder
I’ve been saying it for a while now, and I’m more convinced than ever that German Pinot Noir (aka Spätburgunder) should be on everyone's radar. It’s one thing to taste a smoky and hedonistic Meyer-Näkel Spätburgunder from the Ahr or a full-bodied and deeply-fruited Friedrich Becker from the southern Pfalz. It’s another thing to taste a nuanced and filigreed whole-cluster fermented Paul Fürst Pinot from Franken or the stellar and intellectual Spätburgunders from Dr. Simone Adams in Rheinhessen’s Ingelheim. Germany is the world’s third largest producer of Pinot Noir, with 11,784 hectares planted (11% of Germany’s vineyard area in 2022), no doubt aided by the changing climate. The late (spät) ripening Pinot Noir (burgunder) arrived in 884 at Bodensee in southern Baden, brought to the region from Burgundy by emperor Charles the Fat. That’s plenty of time for the mutation-prone Pinot Noir to develop into a family of clones specific to Germany. The so-called “standard” Spätburgunder clones were selected when high yields and high-must weights mattered most. Then there are the more recent Geisenheim and French “Dijon” clones chosen for quality, though not always best for certain climates like Baden's Kaiserstuhl. Clones aside, top-quality German Spätburgunder comes from ambitious producers and a vast range of soil types making Germany one of the most diverse Pinot Noir-producing places on the planet. Bernhard Huber from Baden and some of the leading Pinot estates in the Pfalz, like Dr. Wehrheim and the outstanding Weingut Knipser, produce Spätburgunder from limestone and clay, while Dr. Heger’s Pinots come from the volcanic soils of Baden’s famous Kaiserstuhl. Franken’s leading estates grow Pinot on steep sandstone terraces, and for something entirely original, Pinot is grown on slate soils in the Rheingau’s Assmannshausen and the best sites of the Ahr. Whatever past perceptions may have been, Germany’s Spätburgunder of today is nuanced, sophisticated, and highly expressive of its soils, regions, and individual terroirs. Still unconvinced? The best wine I tasted in 2022, from any variety or place, was Weingut Franz Keller Spätburgunder Achkarren Schlossberg GG Baden 2020. I can still taste it—a stunning Spätburgunder beauty that I cannot wait to taste again.

HI BESTIE ! How are you today ? I'm doing alright ! I'm actually thinking about my blog's rules !
Liu, Sully and Brian/Hoodie are too underrated my dear.. so today, THEY GONNA GET SUM LOVE !
What about........... MMMMMHHHH Liu, Sully and Hoodie/Brian with a s/o who's like an secret admirer, sending love letters but too scared to tell them who they are !
Positivity quotes:
— Positive anything is better than negative nothing. Elbert Hubbard — Miracles happen to those who believe in them. Bernhard Berenson — One small positive thought can change your whole day. Zig Ziglar — Believe you can and you’re halfway there. Teddy Roosevelt — You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind. Joyce Meyer — If you are positive, you’ll see opportunities instead of obstacles. Widad Akrawi — Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year. Ralph Waldo Emerson — Accentuate the positive, Eliminate the Negative, latch onto the affirmative. Bing Crosby
Hi!! sorry for not responding early :)
Liu, Sully, and Brian/Hoodie with a s/o who's like an secret admirer:
Liu:
Liu would be so surprised at first when he receives a love letter, but after a while of receiving them, he will wonder who's sending him the letters. He will look for this person, he will probably ask other creeps if they know who sent these letters.
If he finds out it was you all along, he would wonder why you never told him face to face, but he will confront you about it and he will be very nervous. If you say that you were too scared to tell him, he will tell you how you shouldn't have to be nervous, and he will tell you that he liked the love letters.
Sully:
He wonders who sent him all those love letters and investigates asking some creeps if they recognize the handwriting. He would later find out it was you by seeing you seeking in his room and leaving a love letter.
He would be flustered and stiff not knowing what to do, but when you see that he caught you, he would be teasing you about how he knew it was you even though he didn't.
Brian/Hoodie:
Brian would probably already know that it's you. He would know by your handwriting or your scent on the letter. He would keep all the letters in a box and read them when he was sad.
He appreciates the letters and makes him happy that you love him. He would confront you about it, and when you say that you were just scared to tell him, he will be happy and teases you.
Thanks for the positivy quotes and have a nice day :)
