@drkev_hybrid - IF YOU HAVE PLANTAR FASCIA PAIN THIS EXERCISE IS FOR YOU😊 [Heel pain advice] . As I mentioned in the last post the plantar fascia is more like a tendon then it is like simply fascia🤔. PLANTAR FASCIOSIS is the result of that "tendon" being overloaded in a capacity that it can't tolerate and then the pain continues to persist😣. This usually happens by way of a sudden ⬆in runs, workouts or even postural changes. . The midfoot is likely the site where everything goes wrong😐. As we toe off the midfoot has to be a solid rigid lever for you to propel off of. When there are leaks in the chain and your midfoot falls out of form the plantar fascia gets overloaded and eventually that overload damages the plantar fascia and results in pain💥. The mechanics involved in that could turn into a novel😔. There are researchers that have dedicated themselves to understanding why this happens and we still know very little😯. . . What we do know is that an injured plantar fascia needs to be loaded and not rested and iced. Which is why I like to think of it as a tendon. The gold standard right now for chronic tendon pain is exercise that loads the tendon in a safe and relatively pain free way😏. Load simply refers to making the injured tissue work to increase its strength so that it could take on more then it used to be able to😌. . This is a great way to load up the plantar fascia and start increasing its strength. . INSTRUCTIONS 👑Find a wall to fall into 👑Bend your knees slightly 👑Fall forward slowly and under control for a tempo of 3-5 secs 👑Fall into the wall once you feel your heels come off the floor and push yourself off 👑Repeat 10reps/3 sets . The inferior heads (2 of them) are lengthened due to our inability to breathe into our upper lung field. Thus, our rib cage hangs off of our of neck. A simple healing movement is by pulling the back of your skull over your shoulders. You will feel your upper ribs lift slightly bringing active tension back to the lower heads of the SCM. Make sure not to tuck your chin. Equally pull your forehead, nose and chin posterior. Now take a nice slow deep breath through your nose feeling your rib cage expand up and out. Repeat 8-10 breaths. (can't believe I've been doing this daily for that long. lol) Quick test to see who my OG's are? What was the first series topic I covered? No scrolling now. 😁 . As I've grown, I've gotten a lot of questions of how I did it, what I film with (🎥Sony a6300), what software I use (🎬Final Cut Pro X), etc. So I want to address that. The number one thing that I did was provide value to you guys. For some reason or another, you guys like to follow me. Maybe it's mobility, rehab, training tips, my dogs on my stories, how I explain things, the editing I do, etc. But whatever it is, there's value there to you. . Growth happens when you provide value. From Day 1, the goal has just been value and remembering that CONTENT IS KING. I never planned to have this many people listening. I just wanted to help some people feel better and get past some common nagging injuries. And I figured the rest out as I went along. . This video shows that I wasn't always super comfortable talking to the camera (I call it finding your swagger). Shot and edited on my phone. Bad lighting. Bad audio. I didn't even wipe my lens 😔. But the content helped people. And I learned and got better. So if you need a piece of advice, find the value first. Get fancy later. . And try rolling the lateral band of your plantar fascia. It can really help decrease some pain in your feet. 👣👍 . Do you guys want me to talk about my film, editing, and social stuff every now and then? In the early stages of PLANTAR FASCIA PAIN (PFP) stretching the plantar fascia is likely painful and usually not the best form rehab early on when things are super painful😥. . . For the most part annoyed and painful fascia/tendons don't want to be stretched too intensely as the compression associated with stretching could potentially be aggrevating😥. . . However as you progress through your rehab and control pain along with increasing the strength and capacity of the plantar fascia stretching starts to become more beneficial if tolerated well😊. . Here in PART 3 📽 of this PFP rehab series. We go over an effective tool for dealing with PFP. Many things are in play here which makes it a little more advanced. . In this exercise we are; . 1🐤increasing big toe extension . 2🐤stretching the plantar fascia . 3🐤loading up (contracting) the plantar fascia and associated muscles . And to even add more ammo to it you just happen to be practicing hip hinging all at the same time😮. All these things are at play with such a simple movement. 🐤🐤🐤🐤 . The windlass mechanism of hicks- When your great toe extends, your arch lifts, creating greater stability to the foot and ankle. The tib/fib go into slight external rotation along with the femur. If you don't have great toe extension, your strides will be shorter and you are likely to hyperextend your low back to make up for the lost extension in the big toe. If you want to add more lengthened tension to your stride, push off your big toe to propel you forward instead of pulling your thigh through with your hip flexors. Even having the intension of pushing off your big toe will light it up. Big toe push off will engage your posterior chain from the most distal point and will light up and even lighten up compression spots in your body. ✨PLANTAR FASCIITIS✨ . I've had a LOT of people ask me about plantar fasciitis . So check out this routine by @docjenfit 💪🏼 . Warning: If you're not a fan of feet, you probably won't be a fan of this video 👣 Plantar fasciitis is such a common diagnosis that many people experience! Though everyone's program will be different dependent on your structure, function and goals, I'm going to run through some exercises/stretches that may be helpful to include in your program this week or even add to your mobility/rest days to prevent it! 🔶 Plantar fasciitis Facts: 🔸Usually presents as pain at the bottom of the heel 🔸 The plantar fascia is not muscle/tendon inflammation, but actually the plantar aponeurosis, which is the connective tissue overlying the intrinsic foot muscles 🔸 It can be caused in people with flat feet AND high arches. If the plantar fascia is too stiff (high arch) or has too much give (over-pronation), there becomes a constant irritation to the fascia. The plantar fascia acts as a bow string. Too tight, or too lose, it looses it's biomechanical purpose for propulsion in gait. . 🔷 Windlass Effect/Mechanism: 🔹 Allows the arch to rise, become tight and compress the foot when the great toe is dorsiflexed - mimicking gait 🔹 Allows the foot to maintain structural and functional structure of the foot. . 🔹 Allows the foot to function as a mobile adapter and a rigid lever Try lifting the big toe (or have a friend help you out in standing). Difficult? No arch movement? No dorsiflexion range?! This is a problem!! Start with some of these exercises to start waking things up and get your intrinsic foot muscles working again. As well we go on throughout the week, I'll address other stretches and advanced exercises you can do to keep that foot as healthy as you can!
