Unpopular Opinions: A few characters I think are queer (maybe not canonical, but very, very codded) Batch 1.

Remember kids: I am only talking about fictional characters and no real people and what I mean is that the cannon leaves things open to these interpretations.

Brandon Sullivan (Shame, 2011) bisexual. Fic in the works exploring that. Also an essay with a supporting article.

Silas Selleck (Slow West 2015). Gay. (Yes, Gay. As in exclusively attracted to men. There is a reason I am writing him as Silva's paramour in my AU fic The Forest From the Trees. I will have an essay about Silas' sexuality in a future post).

Payne (Slow West 2015). Gay. He and Silas were lovers while Silas was in Payne's gang and you can't convince me otherwise.

In 2021 the limited series on the career of designer Halston (Roy Halston Frowick, portrayed by Ewan McGregor) waltzed down Netflix's catwalk. Now we have at least three series chronicling the lives and careers of designers.

Currently on Disney+ in Europe is the exquisite CRISTÓBAL BALENCIAGA centering on, guess who? Spanish designer Cristobal Balenciaga, starring Alberto San Juan (Reyes De La Noche) as Balenciaga.

It's an interesting story about this enigmatic fashion genius that shows his steadfastness in his devotion to fashion to the sacrifice, some may say, of ethics due to the fact that while other fashion houses were shut down during Germany's occupation of some parts of France, he readily made clothes for the significant others of German soldiers.

The series also shines a light on Balenciaga's relationship with his creative partner and love-of-his-life Wladzio d'Attainville (played by Thomas Coumans).

Among the designers who appear or are name-checked in CRISTÓBAL BALENCIAGA is Christian Dior and Coco Chanel. These two fashion legends will appear in AppleTV+'s upcoming mini-series THE NEW LOOK with Ben Mendelsohn as Dior and Juliette Binoche as Coco Chanel and takes place during Germany's occupation of France.

THE NEW LOOK will feature covers of classics by Florence + and The Machine, Lana del Rey, The 1975, Perfume Genius and more.

Sometimes this year (at least I hope this year) will be KAISER KARL (apparently the title may be changed) starring Daniel Brühl as Kunty Karl Lagerfeld

centering on him as a 38-year old trying to break into the Parisian world of high fashion where he finds himself in competition with he finds himself in competition with French fashion giants like Yves Saint Laurent.

The only Yves Saint Laurent depiction worth a damn. RIP beautiful Gaspard Ulliel 

What is fashion if there's no one to wear it? For example, the high society ladies that will be depicted in the upcoming installment of FX's FEUD: CAPOTE VS. THE SWANS.

Hopefully this series will do justice to the mythos behind writer Truman Capote's nuclear fall out with the so-called Swans - a moniker Capote gave the socialites whose company he kept and whose secrets he didn't.

His people were divided, his wife was killed, his daughter joined the terrorist organisation responsible for her death and fury his husband best friend who he trusted left the planet for god knows how long. Random movie ideas:

1) A comedy-historical movie about the Great Emu War, starring Chris Hemsworth, Jai Courtney, and Ben Mendelsohn as the soldiers ordered to kill the emus.

2) A legal drama based on the real-life lawsuit between Todd McFarlane and Neil Gaiman over the character rights of Spawn (think “The Social Network”). For casting, I was thinking John Krasinski as McFarlane and Andrew Garfield as Gaiman.

3) A horror movie about a submarine crew that goes down to Challenger Deep to study the area and end up discovering the remnants of an underwater city. The researchers managed to gain entry into the city, not knowing they’re walking into a nightmarish situation. For a potential cast, I was thinking Idris Elba, Kate Siegel, and Steven Yeun as the 3 leads.

4) A coming-of-age movie about a teenager (played by Amybeth McNulty) who runs away from home and makes her way to California since her favorite band is looking for a drummer. She fails the audition, but is taken in by the band’s manager (played by Keanu Reeves) when she says that she doesn’t want to go back to her family.

5) A comedy-historical movie about the Lobster War, with the main focus being on the Brazilian and French governments debating whether lobsters are fish or not. Aubrey Plaza plays the protagonist who is a journalist who can’t believe this conflict is an actual thing. By the way, here’s a meme to summarize this potential movie:

Captain Marvel is not a good movie and it kinda ruined Nick Fury as a character and its corner of the MCU is uniquely aggravating... but credit where credit's due, taking villain actor du jour Ben Mendelsohn and casting him as a fake villain was a clever move. They needed a lot more than that to sell the twist, but they at least had the concept of a plan.

Yapping about that Ben Mendelsohn character I’ve vaguely mentioned under the cut -

So I kinda developed this guy to go along with my friend’s take on Doc Ock they were writing at the time

His name’s Percival Pryce, but he goes by Perry because otherwise he’d lisp twice when saying his name. It’s a very cute lisp, but Perry is a little embarrassed by it, you know? Can’t give the other henchmen something to pick on him over.

Cause that’s what Perry does, he’s basically a henchman for hire. He’s got a son named Max who’s chronically ill, and Perry’s day job doesn’t cover the medical bills.

He used to be a petty crook, but started working on turning his life around after his son was born. Everything was going well until he got sick, and that lead Perry to making some tough decisions. One of those decisions lead to a break in at a cryogenics lab, which ended with him doused in some chemical designed to aid in cadaver preservation for future reanimating.

Basically, Perry’s body works like a hyper-efficient radiator unit. He can facilitate heat transfer to either drastically raise, or drastically lower the temperature of something. He kind of likes that most people don’t know he can heat things up, though, so he’ll usually just freeze things. His whole super identity is themed around it, actually.

Otto, his employer/FWB, has built him all sorts of gear to augment his powers. He’s got a vest filled with gel he can freeze to make it bulletproof, gloves that collect water in the atmosphere, and a fancy fox-themed helmet, because his gimmick is being an arctic fox.

Perry’s a goofy, silly, fun loving dad. He’s not really a bad person, just in a bad position.

Like, he made sure that his helmet had ears and notice eyes so kids wouldn’t be afraid of him.
