Because I've been sick almost nonstop since September, I decided to make headcanons this morning for all of our men about when they're sick that absolutely nobody asked for. So below the cut are some of my thoughts on how Matt Murdock, Frank Castle, Jax Teller, and Michael Kinsella would act/react to feeling under the weather and being taken care of.

Matt Murdock

Matt would never admit to being sick when he first started coming down with something. Doesn't matter how many times you called him out on it, he would play it off like he's just fine. "Sweetheart, you know I don't get sick."

Despite your protests, he'd still throw on the Devil suit and go out at night running around on the rooftops trying to keep Hell's Kitchen safe, even if he's got a runny nose and the beginning of a sore throat - and his Devil voice would be even more painful to put on because of that.

But in the morning when Matt woke up, he'd be a miserable mess. He would become a full on baby Capuchin monkey, wrapping himself around you in bed in search of comfort almost immediately. And when he'd hear you open your mouth to tell him "I told you so," he'd stop you with his nasally, "Don't even say it, sweetheart" before he buried his face against your neck and groaned in agony.

And he would be in agony because of his heightened senses, but he'd also be a bit disoriented when he really came down with something. The illness symptoms would mess with him - head/sinus congestion would throw off his sense of smell, taste, and hearing, all things he's used to using in order to navigate the world around him. On top of all of that, sore throats would feel like he was genuinely swallowing glass, and while he's already used to his whole body constantly being in pain from what he puts it through, the whole body ache from illness would just be another thing to make him desperate for comfort.

Matt is so used to no one caring for him since he's always the one looking out for the whole of Hell's Kitchen, that you'd most likely see a few genuine tears shed as you brought him glasses of water and medicine throughout the day (that he would make the most ridiculous faces at the flavor of). And you'd be subjected to repeated thank you's murmured against your skin because he'd be clinging to you wherever you went in the apartment for the duration of his illness.

Frank Castle

It would always be difficult to tell when Frank was coming down with something because the man would never admit to it. He'd still be waking up at the ass crack of dawn making a pot of coffee and going about his day like usual without giving a single thing away that let you know that he wasn't feeling good. So you'd have to learn the signs yourself - extra tissues suddenly filling the garbage, the sight of him wearing hoodies around the house when you know he already runs hot, showers that last just a few minutes longer than usual as if he was using the steam to clear up his congestion.

He'd deny it vehemently if you called him out on coming down with something, getting a deep furrow between his brows and that particular tone to his voice that always gave him away because it was just too sharp. "I'm not goddamn sick, honey. Stop fussin' over me, would ya?"

And he absolutely would hate it if you fussed over him. Trying to get him to take some medicine? "Don't need that shit. Told you I'm fine, alright?" Trying to take his temperature? You'd have to fight him to put the damn thing in his mouth for at least five minutes first and he'd be grumbling the whole time (and you'd have to keep reminding him to keep his mouth shut so you could get an accurate reading). Telling him to stay in bed or on the couch to rest for the day? You'd catch him out of the corner of your eye carrying a tool box through the house and have to do a double take and tell him to go sit down. "Tired of sitting down, doll, I've been doing it all damn day! "It's been twenty minutes, Frank! GO LAY BACK DOWN!" Bringing him tea with some honey and lemon in it to soothe his throat? "The hell is this shit? You know I only drink black coffee."

Frank is used to just powering through illness because of his time in the marines. His mentality is that he's got a job to do and he's going to do it, he doesn't want to sit around all day taking medicine and sleeping, he wants to be up and taking care of you and things around the house and something so small like being sick isn't going to stop him from doing exactly that.

Jax Teller

Even sick with a cold, Jax would still be stubborn as hell. He'd wake up in the morning and roll out of bed before hopping in the shower with every intention of going to the clubhouse to deal with business for the day like nothing was wrong. Except he'd be moving slower than normal and communicating in strictly grunts and grumbles instead of his usual "Mornin', baby" sleepily and affectionately muttered against the back of your neck which you usually always either heard in bed as he's spooning you when you woke, while you're making the morning coffee in the kitchen, or as you're getting dressed for the day.

The only way you'd get Jax to stay home, take care of himself, and relax would be to out-logic him. "You know I gotta go in, darlin'. The guys need me, I've got shit to run. Can't just take a goddamn sick day, SAMCRO ain't like that." "And what happens when all of the patched members get sick, hmm? Or when all the girls at Diosa or Redwoody get sick and they can't film or fuck? Then what, Jackson? Chibs and Bobby can handle things today."

Jax would absolutely hate having to make the call to tell the guys he was taking a day at home because he's sick. He'd be sitting out on the back porch talking on the phone with a cigarette in his hand, rolling his eyes in irritation as they called him a pussy. But instead of some insult in return, you'd overhear him snap back with "Gotta problem with it? Then I'd like to see you take it up with my ol' lady, brother." And you'd know damn well that would have the guys quieting down because they knew better than to mess with you when it came to Jax's wellbeing.

Despite the fight he'd put up in the morning, Jax would actually love a whole day sitting around at home with you fussing over him. He'd be sprawled out on the couch with a lazy little grin on his lips as you brought him glasses of water, medicine, and soup all day. He'd chuckle warmly and always give you a "I'm fine, darlin', really," but deep down he'd be so goddamned pleased to have your constant attention. And he'd find any excuse to grab you and force you down on the couch to cuddle with him, sighing softly when your fingers gently carded through his hair as he held you close. But you can damn well bet that even sick, he wouldn't miss the opportunity to slide his hand down to palm you over your pants at some point, chuckling when you shot out a "You're sick, Jackson!" and responding with "Never too sick for that, baby."

Michael Kinsella

Michael would be the literal suffer in silence type. You'd know he was sick - he wouldn't deny it if you asked because he'd never lie to you - but he also wouldn't ask for any help. He'd still get up and try to do the laundry and dishes even when you tried to shoo him away to his bed. "M'fine, pet. Don't wanna leave ya to do everythin' fer me 'cause I'm comin' down with somethin'. S'no big deal, really."

He's not used to having someone wanting to fuss over him and care for him because no one in his family ever really has besides Birdy. Trying to take his temperature, bringing him soup that you made, and making sure he's taking medicine around the clock would have him feeling awkward, which would result in him always trying to brush you away because he feels like he's just adding to your list of chores for the day. And if there's anything Michael would hate, it's feeling like he's a burden, so you'd have to repeatedly reassure him that caring for him when he's sick is normal.

Michael would try to avoid you throughout the day as much as possible because he'd be worried about getting you sick, so much so that it would drive you nuts. "Sofa is fine, love. Don't wanna get my germs in the bedroom sleepin' in there." "Shouldn't be tryin' to kiss me, pet. Don't want ya catchin' what I have." "Ya shouldn't be sittin' out here with me watchin' television. I'd feel like shite if ya got sick 'cause of me, pet."

The Kinsellas would still be calling him while he was trying to rest at home and every time you heard the phone ring, you'd feel compelled to pull it out of his hands and tell them to leave him alone for the day. Because you know even sick, Michael would pull himself together to go help with whatever was asked of him for his family. But you would delight in telling them off for his sake - especially if it was Amanda.

Ah hah!! I have been roleplaying as Armand since I was a youngin’ on AOL! Believe it or not! There was a lot of chat rooms for weird autistic kids like me! And it kind of grew and grew until now where I basically use roleplaying as a vehicle to write fanfiction. Armand was NOT the only character I roleplayed as as a young teenager but he never, ever left me.

I actually had a pretty popular Armand RP blog WAAAAAAY back when Tumblr first started but I was not in a good headspace (abusive relationship, substance abuse, eating disorder, just getting out of college) and aside from my own insane contributions to the toxicity of the fandom, Tumblr and specifically the extremely small and tight nit VC fandom oozed with unchecked mental illness and unsavory personalities so I left for close to ten years. I came back after the show reinvigorated my love for writing about VC and Anne Rice and I’ve come to know a lot of amazing people here now that also have crazy parasocial relationships with the characters! (That’s a joke…mostly.) And Tumblr seems to have calmed down for the most part. And my life has, too.

I figured instead of going back and forth with other roleplayers I’d use the medium of Tumblr to bring Armand’s inner thoughts alive and that way I could write down all the crazy headcanons I have saved up in my fetid little noggin over the decades through Armand’s own words.

I hope you know, I never purport to have a better grasp at Armand or that my interpretation is the final one. If a character comes to you and speaks to your life experiences in a way that makes you feel seen, or valid, or comfy then hell yeah.

For example, I’m VERY VERY heavy on Armand and Daniel’s (mostly, probably) monogamous relationship. Other’s are not. I also tend not to ship Armand and Lestat and I know folks REALLY love that pairing. Currently, I run with a personal arch that Armand is not speaking to Marius which can be controversial. It’s all valid, ya dig?

Also the time-quantum thing in our fandoms really gotta stop, too but I digress. I am, however, really excited that people seem to gravitate toward my roleplaying and I’m so thankful for all my new followers as of recent. I really try to write well and engage well lol

Cult of the Lamb AU Headcanons!

Feel free to ignore my funky little headcanons, but I wanna scream about them for a second. If you DO read this, buckle up because it's a bit of a long boi.

I'll also be editing it as I add more things that I think of.

Bella, my caricature for the Lamb, is NOT the only sheep left. She even has sheep followers in the Cult, but most have either fled the Lands of the Old Faith, or have gone into hiding. And before the Bishops could kill any more sheep, Bella took them out.

Gail, my caricature for the Goat, is a separate creature. He and Bella have a history long before they achieve godhood, and Gail is the God of Vengeance rather than the God of Death. He obtains his power from a dying god after an act of selfless kindness.

Bella and Gail were the closest thing to family that each had before she was captured and sacrificed for the prophecy.

Narinder allowed Bella to speak freely with him as his vessel, forming a special camaraderie between the two. However, this was the start of his downfall, as planting that seed of familiarity in her head gave her the confidence to fight back for her own survival.

Within the first year of Narinder being part of the Cult, he'd had several of his limbs broken(because he fucked around and found out), fallen ill with a serious case of pneumonia, and been put on house arrest(also because of the aforementioned "fuck around and find out" incident).

Aym and Ball are very much alive, and Bella reunited them with Forneus. However, she told them that they always had a place in her Cult if they wished to come back. They are the only creatures that she lets come and go as they please.

Bella is a kind and benevolent leader, but her attitude with people outside the Cult is best described as "cold, but cordial." She doesn't show much emotion to people that aren't affiliated with the New Faith, but she's not outright rude.

Bella almost always has a smile on her face to hide her emotions. "A smile can hide many things."

While the Red Crown most preferred Narinder as its bearer for his control and precision wielding Death, it finds that Bella is the "best" one it's had. She holds a tremendous amount of suffering in her soul(both before obtaining the Red Crown's power and after), but still holds gentleness and compassion for those who need her. The Red Crown describes her as "an almost-perfect balance of pain and peace."

Unlike in canon, New Faith Narinder genuinely cared about Bella as his vessel. He viewed her as a confidante and an investment, and often rewarded her achievements with a sort of comfort or forming a bond with her.

Narinder had no actual desire to kill Bella. However, he couldn't take back the Red Crown and keep her alive. It had to be one or the other, and he obviously was going to choose his godhood over his vessel without question. If he had the chance to resume his role as the God of Death, would have had shrines created in her memory for his followers to pay respects to.

Bella's family worshiped Narinder, even after his imprisonment, albeit under various aliases. Including but not limited to: "The One Who Waits"(obviously), "The Inevitable," and "The Shepherd of Souls."

Bella's last name, or "herd name" is Levaux.

After her ascension begins, Bella gains the ability to digest meat without getting sick, and even gains a taste for it over time.

Bella doesn't stop her followers from consuming heretic flesh, but she draws a hard line at them eating their fellow cultists.

The Bishops regain what they lost when they're healed. Heket regains her voice, Kallamar gets his ears back, Shamura's cognitive function is restored, and Leshy regains his sight. However, it's not immediate; it takes years for Leshy to get his eyes back, and Kallamar's ears take a while to grow back. Heket's voice is a bit hoarse, but she is still capable of speaking without much issue. Shamura still has occasional headaches and episodes of confusion, but it's nowhere near as bad as it was before Bella healed them.

Heket's initial Cult teachings held ideals very similar to Buddhism. She was all about self-discipline and balance. But things obviously changed after the incident with Narinder. She became angry and paranoid, taking her anger out on her followers. She feared the her followers would see her as weak because she bled, especially by her own brother's hands.

Kallamar is an alchemist and apothecary, and is the only one of his siblings(aside from Narinder) who has access to magic.

Narinder regains his status as a god of Death, but he basically has to restart from scratch with his godhood.

Shamura has the markings of the purple bloom tarantula on their back.

While gender is completely irrelevant to them, Shamura is AFAB. They prefer they/them, but will honestly allow any pronouns(he/she/they/it/etc.).

Kallamar and all his spouses are married to each other. He has a wife(Pearl, a squid), a husband(Selachi, a shark), and a nonbinary spouse(Luca, an axolotl).

Leshy's branches are actually antennae, and can move around on their own. He uses them to track voices/sounds and scent, giving him a good general idea of his surroundings.

The Lands of the Old Faith are isolated from the rest of the world, and the fall of the Bishops creates both opportunity and risk from the outside world, both in trade and immigration.

There's an entire world of gods, the Pantheon, which is completely inaccessible to mortal beings, and the portal leading to it is surrounded by a massive storm barrier in the middle of the sea(think "Skyward Sword storm" type of thing).

Establishing an alliance with the Pantheon provides a massive boost in societal development as a whole. Essentially, the Lands of the Old Faith are still in the stone age while the rest of the Pantheon is in the equivalent of the modern day irl.

Without the use of a fertility ritual, Bella can't become pregnant. Not because any traumatic event, though; she was always unable to have children without the help of a ritual.

Narinder wanted more than three children, but won't try to convince Bella to have more. He may be a god of death, but he still respects bodily autonomy.

As a cat, Narinder is a carnivore. But if he had the choice between meat and fish, he'd take fish any day. He LOVES fish, and Bella will bribe him with really special fish meals if she wants something.

Leshy has two children with his husband, Blue: twin daughters, Eris and Anita. They're not the canon abomination types; they look like a mix between their dads.

Heket adopted a froglet named Judas after bringing him back from the bring of starvation. It wasn't an official adoption at first, but Judas started spending his time around her, and she eventually warmed up to him. Despite her notoriously quick temper, she is very patient with him.

Shamura can't biologically have children as a mortal being. Prior to their ascension, their reproductive organs were badly damaged, rendering them barren. But they don't really mind; they're more than content with being a secondary role model to their niblings.

Siren’s song (intro headcanons)

A new vampire moves in Forks and decides to change the narrative.

This is so self indulgent: reader is gender neutral, reader is a newborn vampire and owns a cat (mentioned once as Tina), is reader a bit of Mary sue/Garry Stu ? Maybe, it’s not very long but I wanted to post something before I had to concentrate on my final exams.

Siren’s song: A powerful ability that can charm any creature as well as nature (human, Vampire, werewolf, animals, plants) by singing. It is able to 'breath life' into things.

* At the same time Bella had to move to Forks, a new vampire appeared out of nowhere.

* The shapeshifters were furious and the Cullens had no idea how to approach you.

* On one hand, you were on their territory, as well as the wolves, surrounded by vulnerable humans.

* On the other, you literally moved in. Bought a house, lived in it, and haven’t proved agressive in any way.

* Alice had visions of you and Edward getting along, but he had no intentions of getting involved in this mess.

What do you think Edward's reaction is to meeting someone having a psychotic episode? Also, do you think vampires can suffer from psychosis?

I'm torn between being like, "oh of course he would try to help" and also kind of thinking that the Cullens keep to themselves and probably aren't as interested in the humans around them (except for Carlisle at work) as we might like to think they are. I love seeing all the headcanons about how Jasper cheers people up at school or the kids work together to get a student out of a dangerous domestic situation, but that's not . . . that's not anything we actually see in the text, and their attitude toward humans in general is pretty dismissive.

If Edward is paying attention enough to notice someone is experiencing some kind of psychotic break, I think his first reaction would be discomfort, followed perhaps by fascination. Someone having a psychotic episode generally has some kind of break with reality, seeing, hearing etc things that aren't real, believing things that aren't real. It doesn't have to be from underlying mental illness; it could also be from physical illness or injury, a traumatic event, or related to substance use. For a mind-reader, experiencing the mind of someone going through that would probably be interesting and unsettling, and Edward has been through medical school twice (although how recently is unclear--it's possible it's been A While and his understanding of mental illness is outdated) which adds another layer of perspective.

(You could argue Bella hearing/seeing Edward in New Moon was psychosis--visual and/or auditory hallucinations are a symptom.)

I'd like to think after that initial reaction he'd try to do something to help; at the very least make sure the person is as physically safe as possible, and then maybe quietly/anonymously reach out to family, if possible, or the appropriate social services. (Do not call the cops, Edward!) Or at the very least call Carlisle and let him deal with it. But I don't think Edward would take the person on as a long-term project or anything. He doesn't care about humans on that level.

And sure, I'd imagine vampires could suffer from psychosis themselves. I think the feeling of going without blood for a long time could trigger an episode--we know Carlisle wasn't in a good mental place when he starved himself and snapped and killed deer for the first time, for example. I don't know if we'd call that psychosis, but. There's also the extremes that vampires tend to go to when they lose their mate; I could see that veering into that sort of territory, too. And then you have people like Zafrina who really can make you see things that aren't real, so I think it fits within the mythos if you want it to.

Oh wow, you're going to make me blush on that 😅 I wouldn't call myself a master of angst but that certainly made my day that you think so! I just enjoy writing angsty pieces so much 😩

I had to give this one a little bit of thought because it wasn't something that I currently had any headcanons for previously, but I have a few thoughts on how Matt would react to Reader having a serious illness (and possibly passing from it). I tried to make my response a bit angsty while remaining true to how I see Matt since you mentioned angst!

As usual, everything is below the cut because this got a tad long.

Assuming Reader was diagnosed with something serious while dating Matt, he'd certainly do his best to be there while also hiding his feelings from Reader. I picture him trying to be strong for his partner and offering them comfort, but I also see him breaking down in secret--like in the shower or at work when he's at his desk. I think he'd often be hiding his pain from his partner because he wouldn't want to feel like a burden on them (something that might eventually cause conflict).

Matt would be working himself to death trying to balance the law firm, Daredevil, and being there for his partner. He probably wouldn't be sleeping or eating much, too focused on everyone else but himself, especially Reader. He'd probably be frustrated about not going out as frequently as Daredevil because of his split focus.

I also picture Matt having a hard time focusing whenever he was out as Daredevil at night. He'd probably be distracted and worried, often trying to focus back on his partner back home and getting lost in his head over his feelings. He'd probably wind up with more injuries and making more mistakes because of it.

I do picture him being very attentive to his partner whenever he's with them, definitely trying to make sure he's in the moment and not distracted by work or the crime in Hell's Kitchen as best as he can be. Though he would probably be very, very annoyingly in tune to their body despite not being a doctor and being able to make much sense of what he's hearing himself.

He would probably find time to stop in at Clinton Church a few times a week to pray relentlessly over his partner, hoping that things look up or that everything will work out in the end. Clearly trying to seek comfort in his religion. I could see him seeking guidance from his mother while he's there, too.

If you want to get really angsty and Reader passes from whatever illness they had, I picture Matt being very similar to how he was in season three. Probably pissed at God and somehow himself for not having done enough. I imagine him pushing everyone away and becoming a depressive, miserable wreck. Not going to the office, not answering his phone. Just laying in bed sleeping and wallowing in misery and self-pity. Though after a few days of that, I picture him being filled with so much hurt and rage that he'd go out and lose himself as Daredevil, not caring if he got himself killed.

I think it would take a lot for him to come back to himself and recover from losing someone he loves. It's happened to him far too many times and loss is clearly something he doesn't handle well.

Now. Listen. Depends entirely on the movie. Sometimes I want a movie buddy who will notice every little detail of the movie and not talk through it and then later we can spend hours discussing it and losing our minds over our theories and headcanons and the cinematography and the plot and character. And sometimes I just want to be funny with friends and the movie isn't that important. So I leave you with these two scenarios instead: I would watch all the Barbie movies with Javi G— it would be a riot disecting it through the lense of modern age feminism. And I would watch the entire Twilight series with Dieter. He would definitely quote "This is the skin of a killer bella" and I would splutter over my bong hit.

I'm already pretty no makeup everyday, I'm not that artistically inclined and only really put in the effort for special occasions. And I've got fucking chompers for feet so I could never wrong those babies by putting them in too small shoes <3

I would've said no. But actually, I adore roses. They don't have a romantic connotation in my culture. They're more associated with healing, faith and devotion. My memories of roses will always consist of tearing the drying rose petals from holy shrines for myself when I am ill or for others with faith that a higher power could help them heal. They are also a big part of our desserts, cuisines, cool summer treats, sherbets. My mom used to add rose syrup to cold milk when I was young. Love roses in all its forms!!

i feel like the black brothers get so much attention in the fandom compared to the black sisters, so here are some headcanons i have!

narcissa’s biggest hope was to become a mother, but sex with a man repulsed her

she considered asking lucius if they could do it a different way, but she decided it wasn't worth it

draco’s conception was the only time she ever slept with him

it was worth it, for a child

andromeda always wanted to have more kids, but she actually had a hard time getting pregnant

nymphadora was sort of a miracle baby

andromeda ended up the happiest of them all, but the abscence of her sisters left a hole in her heart

narcissa was happy enough, but she always regretted losing the two best people in her life, alice and andromeda

bellatrix was just…insane. there was nothing tying her down because she would never let anybody matter to her. andromeda, who had mattered the most to her, betrayed her and hurt her

she wouldn’t let it happen again, so she kept everyone at arms length. that combined with her time in azkaban drove her mad.

they all regretted the way things were left between them, but none of them knew how to fix it, so they never tried.

Bella's fairy form when she's not attacking people!

Her design is inspired by the Fox Glove flower (a poisonous plant).

According to the formspring fairies are a canon creature in the world or warrior u that can be dried out to use in potions. I immediately thought of my collection of dehydrated flowers and old pressed fairy books from when I was growing up.

I always loved fairies that were a little more inhuman in appearance.

She is inspired by a combination of British and Scottish fairy lore. (She’s a combination of a Pixie and Leanan Sidhe) I’m going with the term ‘changeling’ as it refers to human/fae hybrids and fae as a term for her kind since it’s a general term.

For this issue, fairies are emotion eaters; which is why plants inform their design. Rather than draining a human of their emotions, they try to do things to create an excess of this emotion (kinda like tending a garden). The flower they take after is affected by their preferred food. In an ideal world, house fairies try to cultivate admiration/happiness. However, the most common unions are between humans and fae that like to eat depression/anxiety. (Used as an explanation for why humans are warned to stay away from the fae). 

Gifts = Contracts. Accepting a gift/food without clarifying what is owed gives the fae a blank check they can collect on later. 

Never give your full name; it’s a means of summoning. Finn and Bella both go by nicknames for this reason.

Bella can not cross running water unless invited/carried. The mote around the family home keeps her trapped there.

Bella can not touch anything made of iron

Fairies can smell lies

(Apparently fairies hate “Thank yous” and apologies. Basically anything that sets up a debt) Bella will not overtly thank people or apologize; but will use extremely polite passive-aggression. Ex: “If I did anything to offend you, I regret that you feel ill toward me.” = “Sorry I hurt your feelings.” Ex: “You’re too kind.” = “Thank you.” 

In Finn’s family, house fairies preferred admiration or envy; and would give gifts/talents to the humans in exchange for being “trophy wives” It was a mutually beneficial arrangement for years until the world around them changed and suddenly all magic is considered ‘evil’. The human side of the family started carefully cutting out the fae side. Until the grandparents generation goofed real bad.

Since fairies seem to also be hunted by humans for things, I wanted to lean into this sort of parasite/vampiric vibe. As Bella stated, she's been forced to live off a poisonous diet of resentment and fear. It's helped her survive, but has corrupted her magic down to the core. Were she in a kinder environment, she would have grown into a different kind of flower.

There was a lot of headcanon lore that had to be cut from the comic for pacing. If you look at Finn's family tree, you can see quite a few names that are derived from plants. This is because, when the world was more magical, they had garnered favor from the fae. Though as unicorns, witches and fairies started to get hunted down, they cut ties with the fae and have been suffering ever since.

(He is distantly related to King Midas' daughter, who ran away from home after being rescued from being a golden statue. Gold is a prominent feature in anyone from the family with the potential for magic.)

All we had to work on for Finn's family was one painting a few formspring questions about Leenan's childhood. I knew for sure, since there were three sisters, that all of them had to be different in typical fairytale style. And that all of them had to have 'failed' the family in different ways. They are all different examples of how a toxic family can break you down.

THE CURSE (TM)

Senna, Freya and Leenan were the last to receive fairy gifts. Senna was given the gift of wisdom. Freya was gifted with fruitfulness and Leenan was given the gift of beauty.

Unfortunately, fairy beauty standards are different than human beauty standards.

So when her parents tried to reject the gift, all their gifts twisted into curses. Senna's a shrewish smartass that no one listens too. All of Freya has a huge family, but could only even have daughters and died trying to have a son. Leenan's siren-like beauty also marks her as uncanny and easy to spot in a crowd.

After rejecting the fairy gift, the magic side of the family put a ‘curse’ on the household. Unless a fae born heir becomes head of the family, the family name will die. 

It’s been 30ish years and two generations of only girls and it’s clear it will be the last if nothing changes because their surviving daughters are unmarried and plan to stay that way. And of their grandchildren the only ones within the Ashenburough bloodline are Bella (a changeling) who would marry out of the family anyway or Finn (disowned nobility) with 0 viable marriage partners both without fathers. 

Ways to break the “curse”.

Recognize Senna (Leenan’s sister) and her female “friend” as head of household; in which they could name an heir of their choosing.

Recognize Rose or Clarice as head of household, marrying them to a noble and passing the family title to a union outside of the family bloodline. (Senna's been pushing to make Rose the heir, since her parents have soft disowned her)

Recognize Bella as head of household; marrying her to a lesser noble who would be willing to take over the acreage (or lord forbid let her leave the house).

Admit they were wrong in disowning Leenan, restore her and Finn’s noble status. Either of them could carry on the bloodline and title.

Finn’s grandparents refuse to do any of these. Their pride will end the Ashenburough name.

FREYA'S CURSE

One last bit of lore that was alluded to, but not delved to deeply in. We showed Freya getting hit in the face with a potion, and in a different flashback that the potions Leenan was messing with were magical dyes.

IF Freya hadn't been so vain, the worst that would have happened was a weird discoloration to her face and eyes. But, being the carry know it all she was, she tried to fix it herself. The end result was something far worse than where she began, and Bella's abundant magic was also a consequence of this.

Her cursed design was inspired by my other favorite Cinderella variant All-Kinds-of-Furs. Only, in her case, it isn't a coat so much as a monstrous appearance. Rose's father was a hunter sent to slay the beast and fell in love with her instead. After such a humbling experience, she was actually a very kind step-mother to Rose and Clarice, perhaps too kind, as she favored her human daughters. Between the curse, her first marriage getting annuled and settling down with a peasant; she was arguably the biggest embarrassment of the family in the end.

She never did swallow her pride enough to seek out her sister for help though. In death her parents have tried to rewrite history. There is one tapestry in her room of her and her husband together after she was cursed, but all other images of her in the house are from when she still looked 'normal'.
