BELIZE
DAY ONE
I landed in San Ignacio, Belize on Tuesday, March 12th. I started my day off by checking in at my Airbnb. The place I stayed at was called "Bird Nest" and it is run by Terry who has been hosting for a year. The cost is 90 BZD (45 USD) and since I will be staying for 2 nights, my total ended up being 273 BZD (136 USD). The Bird Nest is located in the by the Mopan River, so I was only a 7-minute drive away from the city of San Ignacio.
After getting settled, I took a 10-minute drive to the Katun Ahau Belize Culture Tours. They offer 4 different types of tours along with the ability to customize a tour of your choice. I chose the A.T.M (Actun Tunichill Muknal) Cave Tour, which is a 2 1/2 to 3 hour tour that takes you all along the cave. We started off the tour by driving to the Tapir Mountain Reserve so we could take a 45-minute hike to the cave entrance. In the hike, we had to travel through knee height streams by using a rope. Once we got to the cave entrance, we swam across a spring pool for 15 seconds to get into the actual cave. We traveled through underground mazes, tunnels, chambers, and more, we ended up in a ceremonial chamber which housed the "Crystal Maiden" (a skeleton of a 17-year-old boy whose bones have been calcified which makes him look like he was made of crystals). In the same chamber, you will find "The Cathedral" this is the driest part of the chamber, and you will be asked to take your shoes off at this point. The cave is made of limestone and shoes can damage the floor. "The Cathedral" houses Mayan artifacts and 13 skeletal remains. After "The Cathedral" we kept walking and soon found our way out of the cave after spending around 2 hours there. The shuttle bus then came to pick us up and take us back to San Ignacio.
After flying this morning and going on this cave tour, I was completely drained, and I needed to sleep this instant. On the drive back to my Airbnb, I was fighting back yawns and trying to keep my eyes open. I unfortunately had to skip dinner. As soon as I got back to the "Bird Nest" I flopped on my bed and immediately crashed.
*Due to the cave's no camera rule, I could not get any photos of me in the cave. My apologies.
DAY TWO
After the huge adventure that yesterday brought, I decided to relax and just tour the city of San Ignacio for day two. I started off my morning by reflecting my time yesterday. If I'm being honest, I did not like it. The cave was beautiful and seeing all the ancient artifacts was amazing, but it took the life out of me. I have never been more out of breath and exhausted in my entire life. And on top of that, I traveled alone, so I had no one to talk with and complain to during the walk-- and I am not the one to talk to strangers. But, today is a new day that will not feature any heavy travel, and hopefully I will get to actually eat today.
I got out of bed, dressed for some warm weather due to their moist and tropical climate, and drove into town. It was around 11:30 AM, meaning The Guava Limb Restaurant & Café just opened. I was debating between getting breakfast foods and lunch, but I ultimately ended up on lunch. I chose to get the Sesame Pork Panini, which is a shredded pork sandwich with mozzarella and herb cheeses with a side of french fries. My meal ended up being 52 BZD (26 USD) but I tipped my waitress 10 BZD (5 USD). Tipping in Belize isn't mandatory, and it's not a shitty thing to not do, servers do not get offended if you don't tip.
After my amazing meal at Guava Limb, I took an 11-minute walk over to the Sacred Heart Parish church. As mentioned in my 'about me,' I am not religious, but I find religion fascinating, so I popped over to the church just to look around. The main religion in Belize is Roman Catholic. The Catholicism comes from the 16th century when Spain took over their country. After Spain, they became ruled by Great Britain. Because Belize was controlled by Britain from 1798 to 1964, their second-highest religion is Protestant, making it the country in Central America with the highest Protestant population. Before Britain took over, the Maya and Garífuna population practiced a mix of shamanism and Christianity. The main language of Belize is English, due to England's colonization.
After my look around Sacred Heart Parish, I took a 5-minute drive to the Cahal Pech Museum, which is a museum located right next to the Cahal Pech Mayan ruins, which are the oldest known Maya site in Belize (10 BZD/5 USD entrance fee). The museum itself features all sorts of Mayan artifacts, such as, pottery, sculptures, paintings, and pieces of clothing. The ruins site is about 10 square miles and has 34 separate buildings you can tour. The largest building is 78 feet tall, and it's been rumored to be a sweat house.
I spent around 3 hours looking around the museum and ruins, making the time around 6:30, meaning it was time for dinner. A 5-minute drive away from the ruins, I found Yoli's Pizza and I stopped in for a bite. I was feeling especially hungry, so I bought a whole pizza instead of just a slice. I got the Mediterranean Pizza which has sausage, bacon, olives, and onions, and it cost me 64 BZD (32 USD). Because it was only 7:45 PM, and I wasn't tires yet, I decided to do some exploring of the nightlife in San Ignacio. I took a 3-minute walk to San Ignacio's most famous nightclub, Revolution Nightclub. At Revolution Nightclub, I heard some live music and danced with the people of Belize. Performing at the club was DJ LYAN who is the main performer at Revolution Nightclub. Because the drinking age is 18, and I am still 17, I was unable to drink here. At midnight, the club closed, and I decided to head back to my Airbnb, so I can get some rest before my flight out tomorrow afternoon.
DAY THREE
My final day in Belize! My flight to Panama is at 5 PM and the airport is an hour and 50 minutes away from San Ignacio, so I decided to leave now and find something to eat in Belize City. The flight cost around 571 BZD (284 USD) and it should be around 2 hours and 20 minutes. I left San Ignacio around 11, meaning I ended up in Belize City around 12:50. I chose to eat at Midtown Restaurant & Bar located on the coast. Midtown specializes in lobster, but I chose to get the Jack Daniel's Burger. The burger had Jack Daniel's sauce, cheese, onion, tomato, and I chose to remove the lettuce and pickles. The burger came with french fries and onion rings, and it all cost me 64 BZD (32 USD). After lunch, it was around 2 PM, so I thought it was time to take the 23-minute drive to the Sir Barry Bowen Municipal Airport and say goodbye to Belize.
I had a phenomenal time in Belize, learning about the different culture here and eating the amazing food. I loved all the exploring and tours I went on, and I highly recommend coming if you ever have the chance.

Belize Day 3!
Snorkling and then boat ride with tubing and rum punch to secret beach with its floating cabanas
We even stopped at an “iguana sanctuary on the way”
And then after secret beach it was time for a food tour!
Empanadas, granaches, and tostadas things and a taquetio. Appetizer of jerk chicken and fried conch “the fruit of the sea” and waffle cone with Nutella and cheese for dessert 😋
And overly long travel diary for me that I expect no one else will or should read
Day 3!
Got up early to go running along the beach which was so lovely. Although I felt bad for Aliya who got sick in the way back. But I really love running in the sand along the water front even if the sea grass was everywhere and smelled bad.
Snorkeling was so cool!!! I was def a little a nervous but I got purple fins so gaurenteed great day. It took a little bit to figure how to adjust to moving with all the pieces but it was so fun to see everything. Once I got more comfortable I even dove under the water a little bit (but had to deflate the mandatory life vest which I forgot to inflate until I struggled fins then panic super inflated it. They had little tubes to blow into to inflate them.) diving under was fun but I did lose one of fins trying to go under too hard.
We got to see so many fish and cool coral including some purple coral. We also got to see a stingray which so awesome and a sea turtle. And some sharks which were mostly chilling in the bottom but one was moving. Even just swimming around was awesome and it was by far the highlight. (Even tho it is definitely the reason my back is super sunburned.
After snorkeling we came back and my room got lunch (of tacos) while everybody else chilled by the pool. I was so glad we ate when we did. Everybody else had to wait until we got to secret beach at like 2pm
We then got to go to the boat to go to secrete beach with rum punch.
We made a stop at an iguana place which was cool but super mosquito filled and honestly pretty strange. I did love seeing iguanas that up close and personal tho
And then we got to do tubing!! Which was so fun and a only a little scary. I ended up in the middle which was great because I didn’t fly off.
Secrete beach was awesome. Me and my roommates got a floating cabana and just chilled.i perfected my float aided by the salt water and enjoyed boat refills of rum punch. A delightful afternoon.
Quick shower and then food tour.
First stop was jerk chicken and conch frittata. I did actually try the conch, the fruit of the sea and it wasn’t bad. I think the no seafood thing is partly mental.
Next stop had so many fun things. Empanadas and Taquitos. And like a toastado with beans and San Pedro cheese called granacha and one other thing that was the food guides favorite.
Followed by dessert of Nutella and cheese in a wrapped waffle cone like material and a fresh churro. And then ice cream.
I am so tired but I did make to the hammock to write this. I do wish I wasn’t on my period because my tummy is cranky.

•aaron tveit headcanons•
a/n: aight guys I’m not dead! i haven’t really had the time to write much, but aaron tveit lives in my heart rent free so here’s these dumb kinda specific really long headcanons:
so you both probably met pretty early into aaron’s career
it’s probably safe to say both of you would have the same if not similar careers, broadway and acting
and though aaron was lucky enough to get his big break, you had unfortunately not (yet) and had to wait tables for a couple years after college
(insert waitress/customer troupe here)
you worked at a restaurant close to the theatre district after undergrad and aaron was starring in Hairspray
the boy saw you and was w h i p p e d
would come to the restaurant like 4 days a week
kinda creeped you out ngl
finally got the balls to actually start a conversation and boom: instant friends
and you guys were friends for a while! dumbass and chaotic conversation was a YES
“did you know barcodes scan the white space and not the black lines”
“WAIT WHAT??”
“how many orders of fries would put me in the er?”
“uhhh... 30”
you first caught feelings when aaron invited you to see him as Fiyero in Wicked
was it his amazing talent and charm? or was it his tight pants? you’d never tell
but nevertheless, oh shit! the friends to lovers troupe!
aaron is a manly man™️ and will always say he asked you out first
which is somewhat true, but you always argue the dinner you took him to after that show was the first date
because that’s when you first kissed him
and just like that! he asks you out!
first date is literally a d r e a m
no romantic dinner, no dress and tux
there was wine tho
you and aaron watched a Yankees game and got drunk off your asses laughing and screaming at the tv and annoying aaron’s roommate
did it end with both of you passed out on his couch cuddling? maybe it did
best. first. date. ever.
the second date WAS a nicer one, going out to eat and wandering the streets of New York City
and yes, some dates were ABSOLUTELY a par 9 on a golf course
you didn’t really put a label on your relationship for a while
because aaron’s career began to take off with next to normal and you finally got your big break on a national tour!
it was pretty bittersweet, though
you and aaron had a healthy conversation about your relationship, and decided you weren’t quite dating yet, but still talking. you guys wanted to see if you could manage the whole “gone for months at a time” thing
and you could!
skype, texting, and random 1 am phone calls
one time you feel asleep during one of the calls, and aaron just smiled and watched you sleep (not in a creepy way guys)
when you came back from tour you’d think you had come home from war
he all but tackles you into a hug, and kisses you
“let’s make this work”
so lo and behold! you were dating!
takes you to meet his family on thanksgiving
they love you
attending the tonys together, which was basically the first time you two confirmed a relationship
he said “I love you” first
a couple years would go by, catch me if you can and such, and you make your broadway debut!!
you’re def a triple threat
aaron’s so gushy about it, constantly brags about you
rumor has it he cried watching the opening night, denies it every time
literally glued to you for the entire after party, he’s just seriously so proud and in love awwh
and then he books les miz and graceland
you’re unable to travel to London w him since you’re in your own show, and it hits both of you hard
so what does this mfer do?
it’s the morning he leaves for shooting and you’re dropping him off at the airport
“hey when i get back from filming wanna get married?”
“sure”
totally gave you a little prize machine plastic ring at the airport
you guys are literally SO NONCHALANT about it as everyone around you goes insane
“i’m engaged, i guess”
the internet blows up because they actually can’t figure out if you guys are serious or not
don’t worry, aaron actually proposed properly with a proper ring eventually
you still wear the plastic ring on a chain around your neck for a while tho
you both decide to get an apartment together
domestic couple things
Your neighbors probably hate you from the amount of times you both have “sing-offs”
slow dancing in the kitchen, laundry day, watching football games together gets aggressive
i firmly believe that you aren’t a Dallas Cowboys fan
the biggest fights you have honestly is about the NFL
in all seriousness there is still small conflict every once in a while, but you both are fantastic at communication
attending the oscars with aaron
“yeah but lOoK aT mY BeAuTiFuL FiAnCeE”
you’d be lying if watching the oscars performance didn’t turn you on a bit
but ANYWAYS
you guys get married!
it’s definitely not a huge fancy wedding, just friends and family
you know for a FACT he’d sing “marry me a little” at the reception he so would
you guys dance all night
it’s adorable, his hand literally never leaves yours
you end up with a sinus infection from all the cake frosting he smears on your face
aaron felt really bad for it, so like a good wife you hold it over him for eternity
“remember that time we missed our flight to Belize because we were in the ER-“
“OH MY GOD—“
went to Belize to honeymoon eventually anyways
aaron was very much like that one john mulaney sketch
“that’s my wife!”
“hey! have you met my wife yet?”
“i love my wife”
life goes on for you two, you remain hopping from broadway show to show
aaron ends up working on his acting career more
lots of time apart, but that just makes the time together more precious
adorable phone contact names
“wifey❤️” and “hubby❤️”
you were on set a lot for rehearsals of Grease Live
you actually helped assist in some of the choreography from time to time
impromptu golf cart rides
and you get to watch it live! like, you were AT the carnival on the set!
you’re just really proud of your mans :,)
family and friends keep pestering you both to have kids
so you adopt a dog (MILES BBY I LOVE YOU)
also as a side note, you love Braindead
you laughed HYSTERICALLY during the salami sex scene
aaron filmed it and posted it on twitter
fast forward, you get offered to help choreograph a new show! woah! and you’d get to swing for it!
it’s super top secret tho, and you literally cannot tell aaron
you do eventually relent the information that you’re working on a new show, and the man doesn’t pry. he’s respectful like that.
you meet the team, and boy you are IN LOVE
auditions are fun, creating the choreo is exhilarating
you don’t hear about casting much at all tho
so when aaron walks into the studio you both immediately freeze
“wait what the f—“
“I KNEW IT!”
yup. you both were working on Moulin Rouge! and had NO clue
you both share (1) braincell
the lab went great, and soon you were on your way to Boston!
you HATE aaron’s longer hair, mostly because he won’t let you mess with it >:(
he eventually relents, and you teach him the secrets of “the man bun™️”
you also braid it a lot
“ow!”
“stop being a pussy about it”
or
“your hair’s the money maker don’t make me shave it in your sleep”
performing with your husband is a dream
sneaking looks on stage
aaron calls your frustrated choreo-instruction voice “mom voice” and the rest of the cast picks up on it
“no, it’s 7, 8! Up on 3, down on 5, 6, spin 7,8!”
“ok, mom!”
“SHUT UP, AARON!”
then broadway!!
the ricky-aaron lives
you had to go on for nini one performance and ricky teased aaron ALL DAY
you were totally in on it too
but aaron isn’t really the jealous type. he knows you are so in love with him, the same way he is in love with you
so basically he knew it was all fun and games
shenanigans backstage
one time during intermission you convinced aaron to give you a piggyback ride the ENTIRE 15 MINUTES
“hey aaron nice backpack”
small talk between scenes
like aaron would be sprinting to his next cue and you’d just
“i’m ordering domino’s for dinner pepperoni or sausage?”
“PEPPERONI!”
you both drink too much iced coffee, like people are actually concerned for you both
neither of you are party-ers really, but you can GET DOWN
i am convinced aaron can cook
like if he’d have a day off, you’d come home from an evening performance with a cooked meal and two wine glasses
never candles tho
not after the valentine’s day incident
BUT TO SUM IT ALL UP
y’all are cute :,)

Article: The Radiant Sarah-Gabrielle Ryan: Why She's One to Watch at Pacific Northwest Ballet
Date: March 1, 2021
By: Marcie Sillman
Hollywood could make a movie about Sarah-Gabrielle Ryan's big break at Pacific Northwest Ballet.
It was November 2017, and the company was performing Crystal Pite's film-noir–inspired Plot Point, set to music by Bernard Hermann from Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. Ryan, then a first-year corps member, originally was understudying the role of another dancer. But when principal Noelani Pantastico was injured in a car accident, Ryan was tapped to take over her role.
Ryan had danced featured roles before, including Maria in Jerome Robbins' West Side Story Suite. But she had just one day to learn Pite's choreography. It was a daunting task, but she was determined not to squander her shot. After a session in the studio with Pantastico, Ryan went home and rehearsed for hours in her living room. "I learned the hell out of that role," she laughs.
Her hard work paid off. When she hurtled onto the stage, draped in a gray trench coat, she stared at the body sprawled on the floor, turned to the audience, her dark eyes opened wide in shock, and let out a horrified scream. The audience was rapt.
"The expectation was that we'd throw her onstage and she'd be tentative," says Pacific Northwest Ballet artistic director Peter Boal. "But she gave a really strong performance."
Ryan's success in Plot Point led to a string of featured roles at PNB, from the Sugarplum Fairy in George Balanchine's The Nutcracker to work by David Dawson and Donald Byrd. But Ryan is no overnight sensation; her success is the result of years of training, discipline and a passion for her art form. That passion also buoyed her during an on-going struggle with body-image issues, and her decision to establish her career a continent away from her close-knit Philadelphia family.
Early Successes—and Struggles
Ryan, now 23, has been dancing since she was 3 years old, when her parents enrolled her in tap, jazz and ballet classes at a local dance studio. At age 5, her teacher recommended she pursue more rigorous ballet training at Philadelphia's acclaimed Rock School for Dance Education.
Ryan flew up the levels there, and by the age of 12, she'd advanced to the top, the youngest student in her classes. Although she held her own with high-school–aged peers, Ryan knew she was different. "Everyone was older," she says. "You were expected to look a certain way, but I was still going through puberty!"
That didn't stop Pennsylvania Ballet, which then did not have an affiliated school, from casting Ryan in its annual Nutcracker. Ryan was 10 when she danced her first role, a toy soldier. Miami City Ballet School director Arantxa Ochoa was a principal dancer with Pennsylvania Ballet at the time, but she noticed the young dancer.
"I just remember her beautiful eyes and big smile," Ochoa recalls.
Five years later, when Ryan enrolled in Pennsylvania Ballet's newly revived school, Ochoa was her teacher. "She was that ideal student," says Ochoa. "Hard worker. Very smart, very talented. To me, she had that thing, that 'It' factor."
Ochoa wasn't the only one to notice her potential. Ryan continued to win roles in Pennsylvania Ballet productions, including Balanchine's "Diamonds," videotaped for PBS. At 16, she was offered a contract with Pennsylvania Ballet's second company. From the outside, it looked like the culmination of Ryan's dream.
The reality was less idyllic. Ryan had struggled with body-image issues since her early years at the Rock School; she was particularly self-conscious about the size and shape of her thighs. She remembers one Rock School teacher asking if her Mexican-born mother made good flan. When Ryan replied in the affirmative, he told her she looked like she was enjoying too much of it. Another teacher at the school suggested she go on a liquid diet to drop some weight.
Ryan recalls other "advice," such as being told not to go out into the sun, so that her skin wouldn't get too dark. Although she took that particular comment in stride, it compounded her self-consciousness about her appearance. It also strengthened her resolve to work harder in the studio.
At PBII, Ryan was determined to show she had what it takes to succeed as a professional ballerina. But while artistic director Angel Corella told the young dancer that he liked her dancing, she says he advised her to slim down or risk fewer onstage opportunities. She valued his feedback, and her long relationship with Pennsylvania Ballet, but Ryan knew it was time to look for opportunities outside her hometown. She focused her attention on Seattle.
A New Home
Ryan had attended Pacific Northwest Ballet's summer intensive the summer after joining PBII. She was among 30 young women enrolled in Peter Boal's class that summer—all excellent dancers, he says—but Ryan stood out.
"She had this kind of go-for-broke presence," Boal says. "A gutsiness." He made a mental note. A year later, when Ryan contacted him about an audition, Boal invited her to attend class when the company toured to New York City. At the end of that class, Boal offered Ryan a contract; she joined PNB as an apprentice in the fall of 2016.
"I loved PNB's rep, I loved the idea of working for Peter," Ryan says. Although she was scared about moving across the country, she calls it "good scared."
Ryan credits Boal with helping to free her from her self-image issues, but that didn't happen overnight. During her apprentice year, Ryan attended class in "trash bag pants," concerned that if Boal saw her thighs he'd decide not to cast her. She braced herself for the all-too familiar weight talk.
It never came.
But Boal noticed Ryan's tension, how she seemed intent on proving herself every time he was teaching class or watching rehearsal. He took her aside and explained that he'd hired her for a reason—he liked her dancing—and advised Ryan simply to dance for her own love of it. By the end of her apprentice year, new contract in hand, Ryan felt she'd found a true ballet home.
Ryan also credits her new-found comfort to the camaraderie she feels at PNB. She gravitated to a small group of Latinx dancers, who reminded her of her close-knit Philadelphia family. Ryan's mother is Mexican; her father grew up in Belize. The family identifies as Latin American, speaks Spanish at home and celebrates especially their Mexican heritage. Ryan was particularly touched when one colleague, a Seattle-area native, brought her samples of Mexican dishes her own mother had prepared. Small gestures like this helped ease the young dancer's homesickness.
Ryan had another reason to embrace her new city: Not long after she joined PNB, she caught the eye of a fellow dancer, principal Kyle Davis. They've been partners onstage and off for the past three years. "She's fantastic to work with," Davis says. "She's intelligent, open to discussing how steps work and how we can better work together. I personally think that's a phenomenal quality in a partner."
Finding Her Voice
During this long pandemic year, Davis and Ryan have had ample opportunity to explore their partnership. They share a Seattle apartment with two miniature Australian shepherds, Hawk and Magpie, who make frequent cameos during the online classes the couple both take and teach.
PNB's 2020-21 season is all-digital, and when the dancers returned to the studio last August, only those who co-habitated could partner one another. In the company's opening program, Ryan and Davis reprised the pas de deux from Balanchine's "Rubies." While dancing for cameras instead of live audiences hasn't been ideal, Ryan says she's learned how to use her face to convey emotions in a more intimate way, instead of playing to the second balcony.
Beyond the pandemic, the past year also ushered in frank national conversations about race and racism, which freed Ryan to speak more openly about her Latin heritage. "It gave me a voice I didn't always have before," Ryan says. "I always knew I was different, especially in ballet, but didn't often talk about it."
Last fall she encouraged PNB to acknowledge Hispanic Heritage Month. But she also wants to see ballet open its ranks to more dancers of color, and to see them advance to the upper echelons of companies like PNB.
Perhaps she'll be one of those dancers; at 23, she still has a long career ahead of her. Although she dreams of dancing the iconic classical roles—Giselle, Juliet and Kitri—Ryan also looks forward to the contemporary ballets that are a PNB mainstay.
Boal believes she can do whatever she sets her mind to. "Some dancers, there is no ceiling to their capability," Boal says. "Sarah-Gabrielle Ryan is one of them."
