Question why does law have uh skin discoloration....? In the modern au?
it's permanent scarring from Amber Lead Syndrome! in the au i want to explore stuff like disability and chronic illness, he's got nerve damage in the discolorated skin, his hair also got white patches but he dyes it to make it less obvious he's got ALS because of the everything with flevance.
#maudern ask#this is partly cause im mad that he just magically recovered from it!! like i get it! but since its a modern au without magic i decided#this was a good opportunity to keep him sick. there's a lot of researches i need to keep on doing. it's a lot of fun. if anyone knows#idk threads or forums where ppl talks about their exp with: lead poisoning. transplants. chronic fatigue (got that but i want other ppl's#thoughts). arm amputee. chronic pain and many other id love to have a link đȘ#since ALS is a fantasy illness i dont need to be accurate cause its not real but i still want it to be familiar/real enough to work so ive#being reading a bunch of things.#ive only got a chapters and a half done and a snippets/future scenes file thats huh. +15k words long. ok. need to work on chapter 2#i had actually planned on doing so this weekend but i went insane over kingmaker instead â|ïżŁ|_

Everytime I listen to the Ancient Rome Sidequest it destroys me emotionally. But who knows, maybe somewhere there's a world where nothing terrible happens and it's just Sasha and Grizzop having fun adventures in ancient Rome.
#like Sasha and Grizzop stab Ceasar or they investigate a conspiracy around any prominent Roman guy#something like that#That's probably just me being nostalgic cause I read a lot of books like that as a kid#But I just want them to be okay and have some fun adventures together#The first episode of the sidequest was so much fun I need a fic where it just continues like that#I'd say I'd write that myself but it would probably become an ancient rome infodump#Anyway if anyone cares the window thing on the left belongs to one of those ancient roman âfast foodâ places#I saw a bunch of them in Pompeii and I think they're really cool#The painting on the wall below is also inspired by a fast food shop found there#The houses are supposed to be insulae which were apartment houses where most people were living#Those are your ancient rome funfacts for the day I guess#rusty quill gaming#rqg#rqg fanart#sasha rackett#sasha racket#grizzop drik acht amsterdam#fanart#art

weird how its harder for me to imagine bride mozart than salieri, but still
#fate grand order#fgo#wolfgang amadeus mozart#my art#the reason for it being harder is probably that a lot of fgo salieri is an idea of a character instead of the person#while fgo mozart is more or less just the guy with like a couple things distinguishing him from irl one#anyways if youre reading the tags hiii ^^ do people still do that? i hope so.#i hope that people newer to tumblr know that there are comments in the tags of the og posts as well as in the reblogs...#actually also probably because a lot of mozarts designs have a bunch of shit layered on top of him while salieri is mostly suits and such#like while his costumes look more open they are simultaneously more closed with some thing on top

I'm asking this question because I find it an interesting topic. It relates to the criticism the Tokyo Debunker MC receives.
It's not just TD's MCâit's a common theme in otome and gacha games. Genderless MCs in games like *Obey Me!* and *Twisted Wonderland* face less criticism than female MCs. Even though the genderless MCs get some hate, itâs nowhere near the backlash female MCs receive. For instance, *Twisted Wonderland* had debates about a female MC being unsuitable for an all-boys school, despite the presence of monsters and robots. This debate ended with a female MC in the *Savanaclaw* manga.
Another example is *Tears of Themis*, where the female MC is well-received in my opinion due to her having a character. I am very happy that she isnât a self insert and people seem to agree.
In contrast, female self-insert MCs like TD's MC and *Love and Deep Space*'s MC get a lot of hate for what seems like trivial reasons. TD's MC is often criticized for being ordinary, while LADS's MC, who is strong and brave, also faces backlash, with some claiming she's rude despite evidence to the contrary.
In conclusion.
woman mc in this day of age canât have flaws nowâŠ.wait no they canât be prefect either! As then they are Mary sue! What do you mean that LI are grey sue as well? No that not true Leo having a backstory would justify his actions donât you get it? What do you mean we should hold the male characters as same standard? Jin treating mc as a servant is her fault as she didnât say noâŠ..đÂ
... so I have two lines of thought about this particular topic, it is something I have thought about for a while because I am working on my own game/games and pay a lot of attention to what people think.
It isn't personality people like it is competence
The love and deepspace MC and Rosa from tears of themis actually have very similar personalities. They are bad at/hate studying. They really love food. They both are sort of dorks and known for being kind. What people like about them isn't any of those things, what they like is that both of them are adult women who you can believe live on their own. They actually have skills related to their jobs, you can believe Rosa is a lawyer and that MC is a hunter, the love interests aren't the only competent people in the narrative. I think this can sort of relate to the target audience for both of these games being working women, but that's for a different post. Right now I really want to focus on that concept of competence: the two other otomes I really love and want to bring up are Amnesia: Memories and Hakuoki. The Amnesia MC makes a lot of really stupid decisions, but as the game title gives away she has amnesia. There is an underlying explanation for why she's a bit dim so I don't see too many complaints about her personality (outside of Toma's route but that is a different story) because you don't exactly expect her to be competent. The same goes for Hakuoki's MC whose name escapes me at the moment, she is the daughter of a doctor so she is never made out to be incompetent in medical matters, but she isn't the best fighter. And she doesn't need to be that's the male love interest's role in this particular story.
The problem with MCs like our dear Luna? I believe you said her default name is, in Tokyo Debunker is that we don't exactly have anything she is stated to be good at beyond boosting Stigmas. The various ikmen games get around this by giving their MCs a job, but we don't have that for Luna so we don't have anything to show some backbone or character so people read her as being a bit of a doormat. Like I have said numerous times before, I don't mind this and think that so long as they keep allowing us to see her thoughts this the writing will be good. A relatively easy fix to this could have been to make her someone who really loves music and constantly talks about it, she was going to a concert at the start of the game so that little bit of character would go a long way for her to be more of a human for people to project themselves onto. Generally speaking, when writing an MC, it is perfectly acceptable to give them certain personality traits and a history. But if you do that you need to make sure the narrative respects that interest and does not use it as an excuse to make the male lead look cooler.
Gender Neutral MCs
*sigh* so you bring up Twisted Wonderland and I uh... have some experience with that fandom! And I have observed the gender wars over Yuu with a weary heart. I genuinely could not care any less about how people identify or the type of o.c.s they make, but some people really really care and if I am honest I find that a bit disturbing. It honestly makes me sad to see fanfic, which used to be a really accepting space, fight over writing... well anything really. m/m blogs screaming about how they don't want fem aligned reading their things, f/f blogs screaming about men, the f/m fic writers feeling the need to defend themselves writing for a female reader- doesn't that exhaust you? Why do you care so much? I do not have the energy to care about people writing fanfic I am not interested in reading, is this because I am anemic or have I managed to be normal about one singular thing?
My personal theory is that the commodification of fanfic and fandom has made people think there is something fundamentally wrong with properties that are marketed towards people who are not them. The reaction to Love and Deepspace not having a male MC option sort of cemented that for me, there is nothing wrong with wanting a game where you can be a man or non-binary and date anime boys. There is also nothing wrong with writing m/m fanfic for a property like lds, or wishing you could play as a man in it. I think there is a genuine market gap in good games for people who aren't fem aligned, but you do not get good games by harassing people or implying they suck for wanting games where you can play as a woman. You get that by financially supporting projects aimed at you! There is a blog I follow on here called @amaregamesdb. They post a bulletin of projects, both vn and if, with an emphasis on making people aware of projects that aren't simply otome (ie male love interests with a female protagonist.) I think the people who run it are also the people who coined the term "amare game" to use for games where the MC isn't necessarily female. They also ran a blog to help people like me learn how to code if/vns so I am very grateful for them, so please do give them your support.
I write for a gender neutral reader because I wanted to write interactive fiction and felt like I needed to practice doing so. I have continued to do because honestly? I really enjoy it. I love seeing how many different people identify with my writing and are moved by it. There are some projects I want to do in the future (original works, not fanfic) that I probably will lock the MC to female for, but I want to continue providing gn fic for people for as long as I write. And original projects too! I have two in particular I am working on behind the scenes. The solution to the problems like "what gender is yuu really," if you will permit me to preach for a second, is to not care. Yana said Yuu was meant to be you, and dear reader I don't actually know who you are! So you can be whoever it is you wish to be in your heart and I will make room for you to sit next to me. I'll even make tea (ïœĄâąÌáŽ-)â§
#<3 asks#talking shop#twisted wonderland#tokyo debunker#otome game#i really like people actually#love them if i am being honest#so when people want to see themselves reflected in things i am interested in learning how to do that#i very much see writing things i do not personally relate to as a skill issue i can conquer!#but that takes a bunch of time and a willingness to be bad at it#which is to say i need to read more yaoi so i can get better at writing gay stuff#i intend to start with the epic of Gilgamesh (âąÌáŽâąÌ )Ù

#why do you need this many legs sir#toedscruel#woah holy shit i just looked outside and it's super dark out. i'm queuing this up at noon why is it so dark#lemme look#yeah it's. dark. there's a bunch of dark evil clouds in the sky lookin like it's gonna storm oh i just heard thunder yeah it's gonna storm#uh oh. good thing i'm queueing this guy up before the storm so my power doesn't go out. this happens frequently#anyway toedscruel. it's definitely an evolution of toedscool. it definitely looks like tentacruel#if it's a different pokĂ©mon why does it evolve into something so suspiciously similar. i can understand wigglet and wugtrio being#different pokĂ©mon. just based on how different they are from diglett and dugtrio. even though their names are a typo away#but this guy is. it. really should've just been a regional formâ i think#unrelatedâ but on random occasions seemingly whenever someone new finds the blog and reads my tags#i'll occasionally get folks asking me how i type commas in the tags#the answer is that this character â â â is not a comma. it just looks identical to a comma because of tumblr's font#it's actually a lower quotation mark. so for a language that does âthis kindâ of quotation marks#and i use it as a comma because i have a fancy linguist keyboard that can type all kinds of fancy symbols. and it's easily accessible#some of my favorites include the single-character ellipse: âŠ#the degrees symbol: Âș and °#small A: ÂȘ#fractions: 1â2 2â3 1â4 etc#and obviously IPA symbols and various diacriticsâ so that i can type the word pokĂ©mon without having to copy-and-paste the E#currency symbolsâ too. ÂŁÂą$§„ euro is on here somewhere but i don't know where bc i don't use that one really#i just like being able to type things the way they're supposed to be. like it's 80Âș outside. the stopwatch costs 15Âą in the shop#andâ of courseâ pokĂ©mon. it's the linguistics and computer 'tism combining together i think#it's storming harder now but i found the euro symbol: âŹ#oh fuckin hell my lights just flickered. this is gonna be rough..!

The Spider And Her Demons
YA Australian urban fantasy/horror
about a Malaysian-Chinese girl whoâs half spider-demon, just trying to keep her head down and survive high school
when she accidentally kills and eats a man in front of the most popular girl at school, they strike up a strange friendship and she starts to learn more about herself and the supernatural world
aroacespec/sapphic ish
#The Spider And Her Demons#Sydney Khoo#loveozya#aroaessidhe 2023 reads#you give me a teenage girl with giant hair spider legs who scuttles across her bedroom wall on page 3#and then eats a man and i am already sold.#also aus books are always so familiar compared to US books :)#and yes sexuality stuff is ambiguous but basically: a bunch of discussion on relationship hierachies (ie friendship equally/more important)#themes of feeling unlovable bc you're different and different forms of love#multiple times the MC says she has no interest in dating or relationships and also is touch (and maybe sex) repulsed#- but of course that Also has to do with the whole Being A Monster thing#and it definitely shows some kind of attraction to dior - ie looking at her lips/bare skin; blushing; etc#and ends on sort of hand kiss / 'is this something??' vibes#I asked the author and they said they see them as QPR / platonic soulmates but are not at the point where they would know what to call it#which makes total sense to me!#the part of me who wants more obvious aroace YA wishes it was a little more specific#but also I DO love ambiguity and I think it wouldn't be true to the characters#who are clearly not even ready to start figuring that stuff out.#and also. aroacespec sapphics is like. also something i want#also like. I think it's reductive to assume just because 'looks at lips' is a common allo attraction trope....doesn't necessarily mean#it has to be that. yknow.#anyway. i loved it a lot.#gross spidergirl (affectionate)......#also dior is such an interesting and complex character. like another book could have made her nicer or less fucked up

All Homophobic Navani jokes aside I do think she is really working on becoming more accepting of this kind of stuff and like it would be easy to say itâs because of the crab yuri or whatever but honestly I think she started rethinking things when, like, her husband asked her to teach him how to read and she had to get really cool about a lot of things really quickly
#luke.txt#like you donât exactly undergo the process of teaching your life partner how to do something that will read as incredibly queer to everyone#in your society#without going hey maybe I should rethink my knee-jerk disgust at broken gender roles#like dalinar got over a bunch of internalized bullshit/NO FEMS on his grindr profile/what have you#through means of like. having his entire worldview spun on its head#what with the almighty being dead and his subsequent excommunication and the way heâs treated by the ardentia for marrying Navani#and like. having a mental breakdown where he wouldâve done the healthy thing instead of relapsing if he could read#just a whole mess of factors that were just like. insane#but for Navani it was very sudden. She loves Dalinar. Dalinar wants to learn to read. She teaches him. She very quickly goes through#Unlearning Homophobia And Such so that she can support him better#if we are laboring under the assumption that dalinar is bisexual but Sanderson doesnât know it#heâd probably put that in Oathbringer#and then Navani has another layer of Stuff To Get Real Chill About Real Quickly#ugh dalivani could be so good if it was good#pulpy drippy orange juice

I had a dream last night that me and Docm77 were trapped in a warzone and he tackled me to the ground to save me from gunfire and then together we took out like ten guys.
I'm sure this says something about my psyche and that something is that if I ever met Docm77 in real life I think we would commit war crimes.
#spazzcat barks#docm77#i.... dont know where the dream came from#maybe ive been?? reading too much Iliad lately??? i dont know????#anyway thank you docm77 from saving me from being dream murdered by a bunch of guys with machine guns and rifles#we were definitely on the wrong side of the warfront we shouldnt have gotten seperated from the main body of reinforcements like that#he did jumpscare me though he was standing quiet and still as a statue#im guessing because he was hoping we wouldnt be spotted#and when we were he tackled me in a very Foxy from FNAF style jumpscare#also i blame his freaky redstone eye for us not successfully hiding that thing glows in the dark man youve gotta do something about that#anyway welcome back to: every time i sleep for more than 5 hours a night i have#violent dreams and nightmares that both god and man wish they could study under a microscope

About a month ago, I found copies of Morgoth's Ring and The War of the Jewels in a local used bookstore after many years of looking for used editions, and immediately snatched them up to go with the copy of Peoples of Middle-earth and the LOTR drafts I've had for years.
I don't have The Fall of Gondolin, but even so, I was kind of fascinated by the different variants of the story Tolkien was coming up with until very late in his life. Christopher Tolkien could pretty authoritatively date some of the revisions to the 70s based on the typewriter his father was using, and iirc it was the last First Age material (JRR) Tolkien worked on, and he seemed to really think he could get it done after not touching it for 20 years.
But between the different texts that I do have, there are so many different versions and ideas for the Maeglin backstory that it's pretty wild.
Eöl was captured by Morgoth at some point and his skills made him useful enough in Angband that he got some limited privileges among the slaves and prisoners there, and also he learned some of his craftmanship because he was there. He either escaped because of this or """escaped""" (unconsciously a tool of Morgoth still). JRRT really liked this idea on a narrative level but rejected it for being too similar to Maeglin's own story.
Eöl was a Sindarin relative of Thingol's but had always been a hater in general, and left Doriath out of some mixture of personal antagonism and not wanting to be limited by the Girdle of Melian. His incredible craftmanship had nothing to do with Angband; he advanced his skills through his friendship with the dwarves.
Or maybe he was never one of the people of Doriath, actually, but akin in a looser sense of the broader Sindarin kinship group. He was, incidentally, wrong about the Noldor stealing Sindarin lands; the Sindar weren't occupying those particular lands in the first place.
Eöl was actually a Noldo who refused the final step of the journey and trapped/misled a young Aredhel before the Noldor ever even got to the Undying Lands (thus denying her the sight of the Two Trees). The Valinorean Noldor look down on him for being personally a loser, but there's no racial subtext to it.
Separately from any of this, Tolkien keeps confusing the exact generations that the Nolofinweans and Fëanorians belong to, so there's a draft where Aredhel is accidentally moved up a generation and Eöl regards Curufin and Celegorm as his shitty nephews.
JRRT wrote a whole passage about Curufin's motives in his interactions with Eöl, what he knew or guessed at what point about just who Eöl's mysterious wife was, and the importance of showing the better side of Curufin's character (given how awful he usually is, esp in Beren and LĂșthien's story) in his relationship to Aredhel and his distaste for Eöl, even if he remains arrogant. Although Curufin unfortunately doesn't choose murder on that specific occasion, his annoyance with Eöl does cause significant delay that buys some time for Aredhel and Maeglin's escape.
There's more, but those are things I found interesting!
#i'm not even interested in the gondolin storyline particularly apart from my girl aredhel#but i was looking one thing up and ended up being like 'wait what' and reading the whole section lol#except his detour into beleriand's road system. sorry jrrt i respect the energy but you kind of lost me there#the noldo eöl version is buried in some weird slow going stuff in nome as well but so bizarre that i'm glad i got through the equations#to find the quality 'wait WHAT' variants buried in the mathematical ramblings#i think 'actually elros's children did get to choose immortality if they wanted' was a brief aside buried in a bunch of weird math shit too#anghraine babbles#the silmarillion#legendarium blogging#eöl#curufin#aredhel#history of middle earth#the nature of middle earth

unrelated to my previous manga complaints, but do you ever like read a romance and just find yourself completely uninterested in all the side characters but the mangaka clearly really likes the side characters to the point where the secondary romance becomes just as prevalent as the main characters and actually cuz the main characters have gotten together now the rest of the manga is just going to be brief snippets of fluff for them and then chapters of dedication to the second ship getting together but you dont even care about the secondary characters so you just like skip all of it????
#me when i read given i was like get these old men OUT OF HERE!!!!!!!!!!#i did not care about them#also a bunch of other romance stuff ive read that i cant even remember#even kimi ni todoke sometimes im gonna be so fr#fuckin hiyokoi when the best friend gets with the little tsundere guy i was like SNORE#i did love when the toxic lesbian fell in love with other love rival tho that was awesome#ya know who never had this problem????? My Love Mix-Up!!!!#i love the secondary romance#and for once its like very naturally built into the plot because the whole thing starts because of them all being idiots

My favorite thing is characters turning into monsters (horrifying)
My second favorite thing is characters turning into monsters but having to go on about their lives as usual, meaning they have to do normal things while looking like a monster (silly)
#ramblings#i'm imagining werehog doing normal everday things#like reading on the couch. or sitting at the table at vanilla's dinner and being scolded for putting his elbows on it#or going on a late night snack run#can you imagine being a cashier working the night shift at a 24 hour convenience store#and this 4'1â fluffy freak that looks like a porcupine mixed with a werewolf comes up with a bunch of chips and soda and stuff like that#like how do you deal#this is really funny to me right now idk why#he just looks very silly in my mind

Being ADHD(+ rsd) and having friends & customers who do not mask their autism by preforming âneurotypicalâ emotional responses--is a very healing thing once I properly realized âoh, the flat tone doesnât mean they hate me and my work. When they say âThanks. I love it.â or âyeah, fun.â they mean it at total face value!â The number of times my rsd has started to flare up before my conscious is like âautism-!â itâs like...a calming weighted blanket on my nerves. I can trust that thereâs no disappointment to read in between the lines of their tone.
#being autistic myself I am SO EXTREMELY BAD at reading between the lines anyways#and so I just try not to but the rsd still absorbs The Fear regardless lmao#but there are a handful of folks I interact with on the regular who are flat-toned and very even-level in how they respond to things#and while it's easy to see a lack of outward excitement as 'they hate this'--the fact that they#elect to keep doing the same things with me or keep buying my commissions over and over#is more proof that they enjoy me and my efforts than a bunch of exclamation marks at the end of a sentence.

honestly i think a big part of why ranma has fared better than some others over time is because the gender stuff wasn't really the main thing. there's always some other shit going on, simultaneously or with more focus
#one example being konatsu#there's the whole ~oh she's a male kunoichi~ but then it already has a different joke set up it diverts to#so it ends up feeling more like that other thing is the schtick and not really her gender (compare to tsubasa? if my memory serves me right#like. in a bunch of crazy/assholery/stupidity#if the reader see the gender shit as part of the crazy (as was perhaps intended) sure#but if you read the gender shit as normal it still ends up working#ranma#theres also that in universe the characters are used to ranma's curse so its literally normal
