Final- Reflection-Presentation
Final 
Overall, I would love to market and strategize with a team about promoting the opening of a Brewery like Bottom Paint. I would also enjoy researching the target audience, what they like and how to get them into the new business. I found the design aspect of my project difficult because I had never worked with Illustrator before and I need guidance or input in my designing process. The idea of creating a brewery where people can both network and have fun seems far from reality, but I know the target audience it would be possible. Specifically reaching out to Maritime, King’s College, MSC, and Union Halls would benefit this project greatly and lead to more connections> I love my idea for the project and think it was successful in the concept, but wish I had someone to help with design ideas.
Bottom Paint is a catchy name, why are you drinking Bottom Paint? Everyone knows what it is but it grabs any person’s attention (most people around boats know the term). The typeface Copperplate Bold was chosen for Bottom Paint because it screams Nautical to me, it is classic, and would be easily brandable. I do realize it may contrast with designs I made for the labels, but overall I enjoy the look. Designs and atmosphere are meant to be inclusive. Bebas Neue is the lettering used in the labels. I really enjoy this typeface and the way the Slack Water looks with the outline in black and fill in White. The square or rectangle shapes were not working with my designs. The oval shape worked the best with my goals for the labels.
I wanted to post a video of responses to questions I had, but no one would like to be on video, on this subject I completely understand. I learned that location is key, I predicted it would be the most important aspect of where they are drinking because they are constantly traveling for work. Location is very important, but many said they would travel further for a place they really liked, as long as it was reasonable to get there. When they are traveling, often if it is a small town with one bar, they are used to being catered for and showered with thank-yous. The sailors give business to small places that are otherwise empty.
Another aspect that can be brought to this brewery, the atmosphere and focus on welcoming them. When I asked the students what they liked about their favorite local bar, one person jokingly said “they tolerate us” while adding, “and everyone’s there so its fun.” People like to hang out with similar minded people. If others are there, they’ll go, this opens up the opportunity to have Alumni events and Union Hall events at the brewery to network or to just hang out. There can even be school events here (Fordham Campus Ministry holds Theology Untapped events at Bronx Brewery for students over 21 so it may be acceptable)
Does the type of beer matter to them?
When I asked specifics about the type of beer they like to drink or if it matters to them, answers varied. While one current student was interested in trying different types of beer and exploring craft beer, the other two seniors did not value variation in taste or what is carried at a given place. Both the alumni I interviewed said that they cared about the types of beer, seeking high quality and variety. All said they enjoy drinking with friends at bars and going out when in port and at home. I know that there are many older men/ retired captains with time, money and want company, they would be the population there during the afternoon or early evenings, while the younger population would occupy space at night.
Overall, the 5 men preferred darker beers and stouts compared to hoppy, light or IPAs. I will take this into consideration when thinking about what to offer or the first 5 beers that will be created.

Location is key as well as atmosphere. They like it when people cater to them, they are used to special treatment when abroad.
Why do you think people love Paddy's? Like location, catering to maritime people or atmosphere or all of it?
Many leave school becoming a 3rd mate, the lowest ranking on a ship, but they can work their way up to 2nd mate and captain over time, with experience, and taking courses. Engineers from the same schools, with similar concentrations, also graduate with jobs. When they are on ships, they are paid and almost everything is provided for them, leaving plenty of savings to spend when on land. Students graduating are predominantly single without children, fewer responsibilities, and a new income.
Social Media Plan / Marketing Plan
The opening of the brewery will be announced 3 months in advance. Posting once a week on social media for the first month since announcing, twice a week the second month and more frequently the month before opening. Instagram stories will be posted weekly, no matter the month or week- there must be at least 4 a week. Two weeks before opening, bottles and cans will be sent in a PR package to Beergeeknation and Louie Baton as well as 10 smaller influencers based in NY & NJ. Emails and letters will be sent to King’s College, Union Hall, and Maritime College about the opening. The opening day will be discounted for college students, the next day for alumni, and future events with discounts as well as trivia nights, open mics.
Posts on social media leading up to opening much like All-Wise Meadery, but have been going on for over a year and the anticipation for the opening has dropped since the first announcements. City Winery announced using the Loft space only a month before shows perform there, marketing for a month before first the Loft event, but not heavily for the new space.
Expanding the audience to all beer lovers and the followers of popular Instagrams. The engagement online will increase following, awareness, brand recognition, and go beyond the places we reach out to directly.
Plan a verification with Untapped, and promotion a week after the opening to increase awareness. Coupon/Award on the app for one half-priced beer when one Paint Bottom beer is already checked in on one’s app, either at the location or the brand. Ask Untapped for more cooperation with social media and branding to form a potential partnership in the future as well.
Taste NY at Grand Central and other locations sell the different beers like they do with Flower Power and Captain Lawrence, New York owned and operated systems only.

This is Kaapse Kick, a collab between @oersoepbrouwerij 🇳🇱 and @kaapsebrouwers 🇳🇱 They were so kind to send me it to try, it's available coming week. It's a Double Florida Weisse with an ABV of 7,5%. Since last week the sun's finally out again so it's good to be ouside. What better way than to be outside with a beer? The beer pours nicely into the great looking glass. It has a nice deep red color with a lot of pink foam. It smells like red fruits. The taste is instantly raspberry combined some cranberries. It has a good sour and zesty kick to it with a small tangy kind of bitterness in the aftertaste. It's overall fruity, tiny bit of sweetness and has a nice acidity. Definitely a fine resfresher!
