After quite a while, I present to you the return of the themed headshots! For today, we have the purple beans! This lovely bean is part of the raptor pack Kaijuru is in. Mystic's role is to scout the area whenever the pack wanders to a new location. She is one of the oldest raptors of the pack and knows the dangers of the world quite well, so her eye can often spot potential dangers quicker than the other members

This shy dragon lives in the Hybrid Colony located between the Rainwing forest and the Kingdom of Mud. He has been living there for his whole live and has a little cottage close to the library. He loves reading books and studies specifically how fruits benefit the health of dragons. His main focus in books are therefore fruits, medical studies and romance books! Yep, the latter sounds quite odd considering the previous descriptions of Jasper XD But this bean is a true lover of the most cheesy romance book you can think of! That being said, you might now be able to guess how his relationship with Mango is going!

Starfin was named after the star in-between her split fins on her neck. It's become her trademark and she never misses the opportunity to show it off! Yep, she is super proud of herself. Starfin usually spends her whole day to collect scales! Mainly fish scales or dragon scales, but her collection does have some more rare scales in it! In the evening, after returning home, she starts doing her main work - crafting earrings, necklaces, piercings, bracelets, home decor or even weapons (mainly ones that are used for ceremonies, since the decor she puts on these isn't practical in battle)

This high ranking soldier is not only part of the army of the Nightwing kingdom, but also a mentor for Moondust. Training the future queen was no easy task, especially in a time of war! It was Battlemakers idea to sent the young princess to the Skywing kingdom and let the Night/Ice/Sandwing hybrid get trained there. The Queen - Milky Way - agreed, trusting Battlemakers judgement. After all, it was this snarly Nightwing, who protected the princess from an assassin and lost her left eye in this incident!

overall: i liked the first half better than the second half. first 50% was soooo addicting. i loved the world building and dragons and war college and challenges so much but i’m just not a huge romance person. like the romantic buildup is amazing but afterwards i’m just meh. of course there was the expected tropey/ cliche/ booktok moments BUT most of it was overshadowed by how great the other aspects of the writing was. i dissociated at the end and didn’t really feel attached to violet or xaden or even the dragons (this is a me problem) but i think the ending is great set up for book 2 (will probs give it a read). like u can tell where the book is going but then the author does something unique to make it a little different than other books in this genre, so idk how many surprises book 2 will have. the fact that i read this is in less than 24 hours says a lot though. i hope mira comes back :D

✅ Rhymes with jazz. I like to think Dajh’s is taken from ‘adagio’ — to keep with the musical theme. Just wish they’d take the music theming further. Like, is his hobby playing the sax? Is his favorite genre jazz? Give me more on this man!!!

❌ I created an annoying coworker who says “Why so sassy, Sazh-y?” to him way, way too much when he’s even a little snarky; which, of course, aggravates him.

❌ He’d be too easy to name-search online by nosy people and weirdos. Sometimes, having a unique name isn’t all that great…

so, what happened?

their gf's other woman, who I'll name Lou for simplicity, got her to come out to the ol' Waylon place so they could "talk"

many things lead to many other things and an "intimidation" attempt turns into a murder attempt, with Lou being under the influence of Wiggly

ruh roh! snapped out of it, Lou is in a panic and decides to call the mutual gf for advice

mutual gf is the worst person ever, actually. instead of turning Lou in, she helps her cover things up and they dump Zar's body deep in the Witchwood Forest

but wait, there's more! Zar's not quite dead and eventually succumbs to a combination of their wounds and the freezing January night

but not before weakly calling out to somebody, anybody for help

seven days later and She Has Risen! with the help of a currently undetermined entity, but renewed life comes with a price and, in order to live, Zar must do their bidding

it's not all bad, though. they don't ask for things super often (but when they do, there's absolutely no objections. ever.) and have been super helpful in both Zar's revenge plot and honing her newly gained abilities. sometimes she uses her powers for good tho

anywayy, Zar dropped out of Hatchetfield High after being murdered—fair tbh. who needs a GED when you can work at the seedy occult store in town and also be an immortal witch of ambiguous moral standing 🤷🏽‍♀️

but tbh - at the end of the day, they're still just a 18 year old girl. imagine all the cringe 18 year old quirks and throw them into a vat of powerful murder gremlin soup. that's Zar

What's a story or scene you've created that you're a smidge embarrassed exists?

LMAO SO MANY, but none posted publicly. They tend to fall into two categories: 1) I explore a different approach to characters than I tend to, and I'm embarrassed by any OOC-ness that arises as a result, and 2) I really like getting into Galahad's head and the #issues he's internalized and I write a lot of stuff with that as a key component that I am embarrassed by, because liking Galahad so much is embarrassing even before getting into the specifics of the content.

Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?

I like writing a lot of cagey or somewhat withdrawn characters so I get most emotional when the conversation finally chips away to how they Actually Feel and they end up admitting it. Also, face touching, but I have very little opportunity to write that.

What's a line, scene, or exchange you've written that made you laugh?

Disproportionately amused by the ending of stop me if you've heard this one before:

"Oh dear," murmured the bartender wryly, trying not to laugh at the false accusation. "What trouble have you caused us now, Morten?" "We don’t know that…" Silas reached his arm out to punch Morten on the shoulder. "You really ought to stay out of other people’s business, Morten."

Overall I just absolutely adore fanfic as a vehicle for dramatic irony and find it hilarious to both write and read.

Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?

because I primarily write fairly short, contained oneshots that pretty much have one specific concept and execute it, I don't think any of my fics are particularly wild rides. yet, anyways. I have a feeling my upcoming the little mermaid AU may fill this niche.

What made you start writing?

in general I literally cannot remember, I've been writing as long as I can remember. for fic, there was a lot of fic exploring different aspects of Rhen and Lars's relationship on the Aveyond forums, but comparatively very little for te'ijalahad, and I was like, hey... what if...

Do you spend much time researching for your stories?

LMAO NO. I should research more, honestly. I love writing canonverse Aveyond fic partly because magic lets me handwave a lot so I don't have to research. But sometimes I do! For example I've been reading up on boats and storms for the first chapter of my little mermaid AU, and I'm currently working on a te'ijalahad AU that led to me reading an entire novel for, um, very questionable research.

Tell me about an up and coming wip please!

unfortunately most of my immediate WIPs are under wraps! I'm participating in Yuletide on AO3 this year and also trying to finish the fic prompts I was given in preparation of Yuletide, and I want the specifics on those to be a surprise.

BUT, as always, I have twenty thousand fics I started like five years ago and am still chipping away at. right now most pressing of those is my the little mermaid te'ijalahad AU!

in the AU, Rhen is the queen of a seaside kingdom and Galahad is the captain of her guard. Te'ijal is a mermaid/siren obsessed with humans who decides she wants to become human so she can explore the world. It features the most self-aware Galahad I have ever written, background Rhen & John content, and some Te'ijal scenes I'm really excited for.

it should be ~5 chapters, and I'm midway done with chapter 3, but because chaptered fics are so rough for me to finish it I'm not posting it until I have the rough draft of every chapter written. it'll be the longest fic I've ever written, and I'm really looking forward to that!

At one point when all four were there, Rhen laid down on a bench and idly described the supposed risks of sirens. “They say they have the most gorgeous voices, and they lure men down to their deaths with their songs of seduction.” Peter laughed. “At least there’s nobody in present company the promise of love with a mermaid would work on. As far as concerns about sirens go, we may be one of the better crews on the mainland.” “I’m not sure that’s entirely true,” Rhen mused. “John isn’t wholly immune to the charms of a beautiful woman.” “No, just settling down with one.” John punched Peter lightly in the arm. “You may not be so immune yourself. For all you know, the fish men have started taking cues.” “Excuse you, I am very happy with my husband and I am not going to start flinging myself off deck for every handsome fish man with a half-decent singing voice–” Rhen’s giggles reentered the fray before she did. “John, if my memory with a certain someone is sound, doesn’t that mean you’re just two times the liability?” “Oh, sure, rub it in, why don’t you, little miss safe-from-sirens-twice-over.” At this point, Galahad had heard more than well enough. “It scarcely matters who is safe how many times. Sirens are an old wives’ tale and you should all know it.” “Easy for you to say,” John joked. “Quite.”

⭐ Korea's historic context⭐

- used to do business with China ( buy products)

-19th century is threatened by Japan

-1910 - Japan attach Korea ( imperialism, colonization, exploration, prohibite the language Korean and Korean names, "houses of comfort" - prostituition)

-Kim Il-sung - first leader of Korea - run away to Manchuria and takes part on Chinese Communist Party. Starts to combate Japanese imperialism

-1945 -Kim Il- sung, China and "red" army they expel the japanese army that was installed in Korea.

- 1950 - 1953 USA invade Korea and cause a genocide - throw a lot of bombs in Korea . ( kills 3 a 4 million people- the country had 8 million people , in total).

→USA was frightened because they were afraid that socialism would spread through other countries ( that would've happened). So USA divided korea and ocuppied South Korea. (They stayed there until today. Korean army is subimitted by USA army.)

-USA basically wants to restore capitalism throughout the peninsula. (They still didn't do it because of the nuclear bombs in North Korea)

-Korea resists and win ( USA do not reaches its goals)

-In the same context, Vietnam wins the war against USA and becomes socialist.( It's socialist until today)

-Parallel 38 N is restored and Korea is divided.

-Military Force: North korea invest in high and strong technologies to defend themselves ( nuclear technology ensures that korea has its origins and experiences remained.)

-1948 -Korea turns into a socialist country

- Explanations and comparisons.

- "Leader Cult": statues

→The statues are built to honor the past leaders before Kim Jong-un ( so the string "workship"has to do with North Korean history. They see the leader role as a symbol of resistance against Japanese Imperialism and threats of USA)

→ The "Kim" family is a representation of these fight against imperialism ( in this case, it was Japan). So it carries this big importance.

→ it isn't exclusively from socialism. In capitalism we have a lot of examples of statues or doutrines. (the queen if england, for example)

→ it is not an obligation to "workship the leader".

→ Kim Jong-un - it's not the maximum leader because he doesn't have all the power on his hands. ( in North Korea we have power division) - He was elected by the assembly ( he can be removed from his post anytime).

-The post that Kim Jong-un occupies, accumulates less power than Biden in USA. ( THE ASSEMBLY HAS THE SUPREME POWER).

-There isn't bourgeoisie in Korea.

So the leaders do not have much money as if they were richer. ( it's not proved that they are so much rich)

→ The assembly is elected by the population by vote (direct, universal, secret) and is composed by representants of the people.

-The majority of the assembly is elected independently ( they don't take part in any Party)

- KOREA HAS 3 PARTIES. (you can take part in one of them or not). The main idea isn't to represent the Party but your own local interests

→ Korea is not a dinasty. ( it has to do with the importance of Kim Il-sung family's name) - The successor is not compulsorily the next son of Kim's family. There's no documentation. ( to clarify, there is oposition to the Kim's family in North Korea.)

-North Korea can't buy things from exterior because of the blockades.

- FOOD INSECURITY : ✅

North Korea is forced to produce 98 % of its own food (because of the blockades). North territory only has 13% of its territory that is arable because it has a lot of mountains.) They can have a diary "calorie stability" but can't produce some foods that have certain nutrients themselves. ( like the lack of C vitamin, which is an essencial vitamin for the body). So if the population of a country has a déficit of any vital vitamin ( that its lack can cause illnesses) they stay on the map of desnutricion.

-Cars demmand a lot of technology. So how North Korea will produce cars if they can't import things?

→ This explains why Cuba's cars are so old. ( Cuba bought cars from URSS and has no industrial autonomy).

- "The govern decides who'll have a car or not" ✅ true. They have a poor production, because of the blockages. So they do like an "Urban Planning" so that the people can live near their works ( like 1 kilometer from the work).

Socialist countries like Cuba and Korea cannot produce in the same rhythm than capitalist countries.

-When a person gets out from a socialist country and go to a capitalist country,this person is considered dissident (a person who doesn't agree with the country principles).

Why do people run away from North Korea?

North Korea is in war with South. Because of South korean and North Korean laws is difficult to emigrate. ( Koreans can pass with facility at China,so many North Koreans live in China). South Korea hardly receive North Koreans.

1990- A lot of people runned away from North to South.( Before 90s, North Korea there was URSS and East block. So North Korea was even more developed than South Korea, but the situation inverts in 90s.) After the end of URSS and East block countries , North Korea loses about 40% of its trading.

So... End of partnership with URSS and East block countries + blockades = poverty, hunger, lack of fuels. So they had to come back to animal traction.

→ Many North Koreans were separated from their families in the South after the division. So many of them go to China to find people to help so they can visit their families in the South.
