What does Timmy think of his little brother Peri growing up to have a neurotic personality?
Tumblr media
Peri's always had severe anxiety. It sorta comes with being the first baby born in a 1000 years and constantly being kidnapped by everyone around you.
Timmy's just glad Peri grew up to be more confident in himself, and more assertive.

Tuvok is not as autistic coded in-narrative compared to what I've seen of Spock or T'Pol where they're othered heavily by those around them and have themes and arcs about struggling/striving to fit in BUT I do think he provides the vital autistic representation of not really angsting about your differences from other people because you're too busy and unaware and then even when you ARE made aware you mostly just think 'glad that's not me'. I think it's vital to have that sort of totally unbothered rep. I love that Tuvok is completely satisfied and proud of being Vulcan, doesn't long to experience emotion or struggle with a desire to express himself in a way his crewmates will understand, to be closer to them. I love that he has a long time and close friend that respects who he is and doesn't try to change him and that how close they are isn't framed as being in spite of his Vulcan nature. I love that being Vulcan isn't framed as a hindrance to him, like a roadblock to living a full and rich life. He has a wife and four kids and is a devoted husband and father. He's getting into gay horror scenarios. Tuvok was born on autism planet and he's thriving.
#there were apparently multiple friend group dramas in high school that I didn't pick up on at ALL#I'm drawn to how at ease Tuvok is with himself and I personally like that Humanity isn't appealing to him#It was at one point when he was a young but not anymore#I personally (it truly is personal) don't like when Vulcans' way of life is framed as being incorrect. I see it a lot in fanfic where part#of showing romance or friendship is that a Vulcan will emote more or 'loosen up' but I don't like it...I think it's a bit boring and that#them being alien with a completely alien form of emotional control/expression is what makes a Vulcan interesting. Otherwise#they seem like nothing more than overly repressed Humans. I do get the appeal of a repressed character being freer but I don't like#the implication that an entire culture is restrictive and bad bc it isn't easily understandable as 'good' in our view. So um...it's like??#I don't like when it's like 'this Vulcan is acting more like what I a Human think is good - they're acting more like me so it's healthier'#does that make sense?? I want it to be...less about bringing someone over to your side and more about love and understanding even if you#aren't the same. It doesn't have to be the same to be lovely I think...and I like how Tuvok and Janeway are so exemplary of their species'#values and that DOESN'T mean they butt heads. They work exceptionally well together and trust each other and care about one another a lot#and I like that a lot! I wish we got to see more of that. WHAT a RANT!!! Sorry!!!#Tuvok#autistic tuvok#star trek voyager#voy#I like Tuvok because I personally can't relate as much to characters like Data who wish to be Human and as a kid I thought of myself as#an alien taking Human form - I didn't want to be Human. I was just there amongst them. I liked that difference...#it made me feel a little lonely and a little special.

Incredibly long post about Trey and Riddle's Relationship that I vaguely said I'd do in the tags of my posts somewhere
Disclaimer: this is not intended to be shipping in any way I very much view them as family, even more so after these updates. To start with I'm going to separate their relationship into 3 distinct stages and focus on their perceptions of each other at each stage. I think their relationship is wonderfully written As usual, I ramble so sorry in advance, but I really want to analyze how complex they are.
Stage one: Childhood: ||Riddle|| A friend: Trey and Chenya were Riddle's first friends. Riddle had spent his whole life knowing the four walls of his home and his mother and both Trey and Chenya were his gateway to experiencing the world outside his windows. As such, they're immensely valuable to him. Under his mother he had no other way to grow socially, so when provided with a logical reason for going out and playing (Chenya stated his grandpa believed play is a form of study) he jumped at it because he wanted that connection. Trey specifically was his ideal. I think he looked up to him a lot. Normal home life. His mother didn't confine or trap him in any way. And he could eat whatever he liked. That's why when Trey said that one or two slices of tart wouldn't hurt, it was good enough to sway Riddle. All his life he'd grown up hearing about sweets being poison. But Trey seems happy and fulfilled so surely it's not as bad. However, breaking his mother's rule made him lose everything. The momentary friendship he'd built and any chance of freedom. It impressed upon him the importance of following the rules because breaking them lead to loss. And on top of that, it left him with guilt. I talk a lot about Trey's guilt in this situation (and I will talk more) but Riddle has his own guilt too that just manifested in a different way. More on that later.
||Trey|| A brother: While Riddle might have viewed Trey as a friend (no doubt because he was an isolated only child with a different perception and a lot of baggage tied to the world family), Trey saw him as a brother. He expressly states in his dream that Riddle was smart enough to identify plants and flowers and had enough magic control to get their soccer ball out of the trees, and he felt proud to have a smart little brother. And this sort of label is easier for him because he comes from a rather healthy family with siblings and has a blood brother around Riddle's age. Instinctively, Riddle became someone he wanted to care for, spoil, and cherish. That's why after knowing Riddle wanted to try a tart he wanted to let him. Later on, he tries to dismiss or come to terms with his actions in various ways, stating that it was not his place and of course anyone would get upset if their house rules and dietary restrictions weren't being respected. He tries to make it out into a joke, saying it's become a family incident of sorts that they just laugh about. "Who gets that mad at children playing." But underneath all those attempts to bury his own trauma, lies guilt. Because he feels, deep down, that as a brother he should have protected Riddle better. And instead, after just 2 months, he had to see everything that made Riddle happy stripped away again. More on this later. Stage 2: Riddle's First Year
||Riddle|| A stranger. Riddle's changed. He's developed some of his mother's anger. He's been confined for years. And because of that one incident with the tart, he firmly believes that growth and by extension fulfillment can only happen under the rules. Moreover, since Trey represents that period of his life where he learned that lesson rather harshly, he ices Trey out, pretending he barely knows him. After all, they might as well be strangers after all these years. Especially since Trey is banned from his house. This is a result of the guilt I mentioned earlier. He failed to follow his mother's rules and the punishment put Trey and his peaceful family that he looked up to in the crossfire. I think a part of him doesn't know how to face Trey after all that, worried that he might hate him. However, he cannot fully erase his own memories. So it is Trey he consults when he asks how to challenge a dorm leader for the seat. Even if he's distancing himself by calling him "Clover-senpai" Trey still remains someone he trusts to a degree. After Riddle takes the throne he makes a decision I find interesting. He doesn't select a vice, instead he leaves it to the popular vote. This could be read two ways IMO. Either, he didn't feel the need to have a vice because he was so confident in his own skills, but was aware that it was customary to have one so it didn't matter to him who it was. Or, deep down, he was afraid that no one would be willing to work with him. After seeing his dream, I do think it might be the latter. All of the darkness versions of his card soldiers showed some form of disloyalty. Willing to go along with the idea that they might jump ship, or that Riddle could be overpowered. It's this insecurity born from his own fear of his mother. He knows he's become a reflection of her, and he's worried how other people might react to it. In the end, he's still chasing those relationships from childhood, but is stuck believing that rules are the only way to keep what little happiness he has which alienates him from Trey to a degree. ||Trey|| A brother still: Despite the years, Trey's feelings about Riddle hadn't changed much other than being swamped with underlying guilt. Upon realizing that Riddle was going to attend NRC, his first instinct was to create a space for him. Trey generally, is introverted but excited to see his childhood friend again, he ends up talking to the people around him saying that Riddle was a quiet but studious boy and he hopes that people will welcome him. That was at least, before he saw what Riddle had become (he ended up fighting Floyd at the entrance ceremony) leaving Trey with the realization that this was not the boy he knew anymore. And worse, he was pretending not to know him. I'm sure it hurt, but even so, when RIddle asked about dueling the housewarden, he did try to accommodate him (after getting over his initial shock). The thing that gets me the most, however, is that Trey still saw the good in him. Trey in the rose maze part of Riddle's dream tells Ortho that the first thing Riddle did when he became housewarden was tend to the roses. To him that was a sign that Riddle was still somewhere in there and he was willing to support that. He would have been resigned to accepting that he was a stranger to Riddle if he hadn't been elected vice, but regardless of how Riddle felt, Trey still felt responsible for him. Both out of guilt and because he was still family.

actually genuinely depressing that when people write april's mom as an actual character she's just kind of a one note Good Caretaker Mom... and like i know why this happens (let the the mammy trope dieee) but i still think there's a lot of untapped potential. im not saying she has to be a BAD parent but there are infinitely more interesting things you can do with april and her relationships with her parent(s), especially because she's WROUGHT with insecurity and is shown to develop a close bond with splinter, who she seeks out approval from, not to mention the absence of her likely working parents is so loud despite it never being mentioned as a reason for her issues, really.
april can take on the front of confidence because she's excitable and courageous but she is so deeply insecure. her being so tenacious despite that doesn't negate it. she notices how she doesn't seem to get along with other people and desperately desires balance between her love of the weird and her need for normalcy. april will work hard to fit in and she'll never succeed (also i really do relate to the fact that the one "friend" she has at school before likely sunita is kind of a creep that she doesn't like, can we talk about that more), and she does seem to find it frustrating that her only actual friends dont understand how that feels. being in the in-between point. wanting the best of both worlds and not truly fitting in either.
i think these are problems that can come with having a bad social life at school even with great parents, but unintentional emotional neglect due to being working class would be interesting, and parallel with splinter in a really fascinating way (+ they do say she has parents but i do prefer the idea of her having a single mom, more to be done with that. maybe they're divorced? that'd add something).
actually april's dynamic with splinter is really unexplored in the fandom because i do think there's a reason she finds his approval so validating,,, i think april's strong personality is mistaken for genuine confidence when it's really not.
Tumblr media
SHE THINKS SHE'S A FAILURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#personal#im just having april thoughts today i think#also pet peeve but i think the reason people write april's mom like that is this belief that they *need* a mom? like the turtles do#and although i dont necessarily agree with the take that rise is about found family#(its a theme that pops up very late and the whole thing with mikey and draxum and ''he created us so we have to give him a try''-#-feels like nuclear family propaganda. draxum is analogous to a blood parent there. and i think its a harmful message and mikey was wrong)#(there's a case to be made with april and the caseys but its not explored in-depth at *all*)#people WANT to include those themes more in fanwork which i think is a good thing#but i think when you're making it about *found family* it shouldn't mean *nuclear family*#who says they ''need a mom'' anyway? they have a perfectly okay dad and they have each other!#maybe if you want to write her in a way that's more flatly good she can be a mentor or friend but she doesn't have to be a MOM#its honestly also why i kind of hesitate to be like Yes April is Their Sister they're Basically Biologically Related#because family shouldn't mean Nuclear Family#and ''like a brother to me'' doesn't have to mean ''MY ADOPTED BROTHER''#i do like when people give her a sibling dynamic for the record! but i feel like a lot of people use it to reduce her to Big Sister#which is also the mammy trope. and i have issues with that#i think i would have written some parts in cc differently with april atp for that reason#like i actually do think we should be more socially conscientious about how we write april. but that's just me

The way Thame is healing Po is so beautiful to watch intentionally or not. Po got used, ignored, hurt and left alone in the end after all he's done for his ex which left scars on him... Po helped create the logo for his ex, he got ignored and betrayed by his ex and after he pushed his ex's career he got abandoned which made him really insecure and overthink a lot of things. the way he got called being useless. and my boy here thame which is not a green flag he's the whole green forest is healing him in a way and doing things what his ex made wrong. Thame asked Po to help him get his members back and yes he's doing it in every way he can. when thame made up with jun and didn’t contact po while po overthought and wanted to write him again and again only for thame to show up at his workplace to remember EVERY SINGLE DIGIT in order not to forget the phone number again. when thame asked for the sandwich and asked again if po could bring some because it was delicious while he brought lunch to his ex and the sandwitches got left on the table. the recent episode when po glued the paper with the lyrics together which costs him probably a lot of time to actually find it.
Tumblr media
Jun's words made him insecure that he indeed would be abandoned again yet he still showed up at the rap bar only to see how good thame is with his members one by one. which played a lot to his more existing insecurity. that the whole trauma he went through would replay again... the overthinking at home why thame didn't called or responded. but then thame called to apologize because he knows how po overthinks everything and wants to clear all the doubts and misunderstanding as why he didn't respond or wasn't there for po. he made it specifically clear that po is not an outsider and that he cares about him. Thame makes it clear that he's indeed important and that he will be not ignored or used ever again especially not from him. and the way thame asked how to make it up for ignoring him only to have a 9 h conversation on the phone (including the sleeping hours) but the way thame played po's favorite song when he said he never actually figured out the chords to this song only to play it for him as soon as po wakes up.

obviously want him to show up again and I like that they still force Toby to voice him and I don’t mind how he’s written in the s8 episode snitchers but ultimately there’s a whole discussion to be had in how Drinking Butt-ies was the best way to send off Todd’s character and highlight his flaws and general purpose/place in the show

I keep seeing posts where people are saying "Valentines doesn't effect asexuals!" "romantic relationships have nothing to do with asexuality!" And while i understand the point they are making is to stop conflating Aromanticism with Asexuality, it is still extremely annoying to find people don't understand the nuance that comes with asexualities connection to romance - because it DOES have a connection to it. It DOES have problems in relation to romance. To say it doesn't is ignoring a huge set is experiences that ace people face.
One of the most common experiences for asexuals is the struggle to be in romantic relationships because they are asexual. a lot of romantic relationships expect you to have sex. if you're someone who doesn't have sex then unfortunately that causes a lot of people to lose interest in you romantically as well.
There's also non-sam aces, and let me tell you it's so very strange to hear someone bring up non-sam aros but then ignore the existence of non-sam aces in order to prove some point of it somehow being ace peoples fault that aro and ace are viewed as the same. Some non-sam aces do not date either. they are still ace and they can still face similar problems to aromantic people because of that. they are still effected my amatonormativity.
Aces DO have connection to romance. Asexual DID have a reason to trend on valentines day along with Aro and Aroace. Asexuality is effected my romance and amatonormativity. Sop acting like it isn't. stop acting like aros and aces have absolutely nothing in common. We can work together and have similar experiences and still be seen as separate identities. there is overlap. stop treating this as black and white where one identity can only be effected by one kind of problem. It's naive at best and down right hateful at worse.

I wish there was a way to say "I don't do X" or "I don't personally like X" or "X doesn't make sense to me" that doesn't imply in any way that X is bad, that I think X is bad, that I don't like people that engage with X, or that I think X is in any way less valid then my opinions.

Typing that Mercie related reply made me wonder a bit about an usual devoted assertion that apparently, Fodlan BaD bcs Church BaD bcs Crusts BaD bcs something "divine right of kings" -
But take Adrestia, Ionius basically claims descent from Fodlan's Jesus and was still ousted by his followers, especially by Vestra Sr and Volkhard who, as far as we know, had no crests.
And apparently, no one was really bothered about this, or at least bothered enough to start some sort of revolt to put a Hresvelg back on the throne because they are blessed by the Goddess or whatnot.
Mercie and her mom (and her bro, once he's born!) have crusts... and are still adopted and abused by the Bartels who have none, Papa Bartels wears the pants in the family, even when Mercie's mom has a crust and thus, would have more "divine right" than him.
Same with Hanneman's sister, who was married to a random who had the last say on "let's get heirs even if it kills you" matter.
I know I've been laughing and dissecting this game since release, but damn if even in 2025, I still can't really get where the "divine right" + "crust system" comes from, if you take the background of several characters into account.
Pour one for Best Dad, even with his illustrous lineage, people dared to rebel against him :(
