Incredibly long post about Trey and Riddle's Relationship that I vaguely said I'd do in the tags of my posts somewhere

Disclaimer: this is not intended to be shipping in any way I very much view them as family, even more so after these updates. To start with I'm going to separate their relationship into 3 distinct stages and focus on their perceptions of each other at each stage. I think their relationship is wonderfully written As usual, I ramble so sorry in advance, but I really want to analyze how complex they are.

Stage one: Childhood: ||Riddle|| A friend: Trey and Chenya were Riddle's first friends. Riddle had spent his whole life knowing the four walls of his home and his mother and both Trey and Chenya were his gateway to experiencing the world outside his windows. As such, they're immensely valuable to him. Under his mother he had no other way to grow socially, so when provided with a logical reason for going out and playing (Chenya stated his grandpa believed play is a form of study) he jumped at it because he wanted that connection. Trey specifically was his ideal. I think he looked up to him a lot. Normal home life. His mother didn't confine or trap him in any way. And he could eat whatever he liked. That's why when Trey said that one or two slices of tart wouldn't hurt, it was good enough to sway Riddle. All his life he'd grown up hearing about sweets being poison. But Trey seems happy and fulfilled so surely it's not as bad. However, breaking his mother's rule made him lose everything. The momentary friendship he'd built and any chance of freedom. It impressed upon him the importance of following the rules because breaking them lead to loss. And on top of that, it left him with guilt. I talk a lot about Trey's guilt in this situation (and I will talk more) but Riddle has his own guilt too that just manifested in a different way. More on that later.

||Trey|| A brother: While Riddle might have viewed Trey as a friend (no doubt because he was an isolated only child with a different perception and a lot of baggage tied to the world family), Trey saw him as a brother. He expressly states in his dream that Riddle was smart enough to identify plants and flowers and had enough magic control to get their soccer ball out of the trees, and he felt proud to have a smart little brother. And this sort of label is easier for him because he comes from a rather healthy family with siblings and has a blood brother around Riddle's age. Instinctively, Riddle became someone he wanted to care for, spoil, and cherish. That's why after knowing Riddle wanted to try a tart he wanted to let him. Later on, he tries to dismiss or come to terms with his actions in various ways, stating that it was not his place and of course anyone would get upset if their house rules and dietary restrictions weren't being respected. He tries to make it out into a joke, saying it's become a family incident of sorts that they just laugh about. "Who gets that mad at children playing." But underneath all those attempts to bury his own trauma, lies guilt. Because he feels, deep down, that as a brother he should have protected Riddle better. And instead, after just 2 months, he had to see everything that made Riddle happy stripped away again. More on this later. Stage 2: Riddle's First Year

||Riddle|| A stranger. Riddle's changed. He's developed some of his mother's anger. He's been confined for years. And because of that one incident with the tart, he firmly believes that growth and by extension fulfillment can only happen under the rules. Moreover, since Trey represents that period of his life where he learned that lesson rather harshly, he ices Trey out, pretending he barely knows him. After all, they might as well be strangers after all these years. Especially since Trey is banned from his house. This is a result of the guilt I mentioned earlier. He failed to follow his mother's rules and the punishment put Trey and his peaceful family that he looked up to in the crossfire. I think a part of him doesn't know how to face Trey after all that, worried that he might hate him. However, he cannot fully erase his own memories. So it is Trey he consults when he asks how to challenge a dorm leader for the seat. Even if he's distancing himself by calling him "Clover-senpai" Trey still remains someone he trusts to a degree. After Riddle takes the throne he makes a decision I find interesting. He doesn't select a vice, instead he leaves it to the popular vote. This could be read two ways IMO. Either, he didn't feel the need to have a vice because he was so confident in his own skills, but was aware that it was customary to have one so it didn't matter to him who it was. Or, deep down, he was afraid that no one would be willing to work with him. After seeing his dream, I do think it might be the latter. All of the darkness versions of his card soldiers showed some form of disloyalty. Willing to go along with the idea that they might jump ship, or that Riddle could be overpowered. It's this insecurity born from his own fear of his mother. He knows he's become a reflection of her, and he's worried how other people might react to it. In the end, he's still chasing those relationships from childhood, but is stuck believing that rules are the only way to keep what little happiness he has which alienates him from Trey to a degree. ||Trey|| A brother still: Despite the years, Trey's feelings about Riddle hadn't changed much other than being swamped with underlying guilt. Upon realizing that Riddle was going to attend NRC, his first instinct was to create a space for him. Trey generally, is introverted but excited to see his childhood friend again, he ends up talking to the people around him saying that Riddle was a quiet but studious boy and he hopes that people will welcome him. That was at least, before he saw what Riddle had become (he ended up fighting Floyd at the entrance ceremony) leaving Trey with the realization that this was not the boy he knew anymore. And worse, he was pretending not to know him. I'm sure it hurt, but even so, when RIddle asked about dueling the housewarden, he did try to accommodate him (after getting over his initial shock). The thing that gets me the most, however, is that Trey still saw the good in him. Trey in the rose maze part of Riddle's dream tells Ortho that the first thing Riddle did when he became housewarden was tend to the roses. To him that was a sign that Riddle was still somewhere in there and he was willing to support that. He would have been resigned to accepting that he was a stranger to Riddle if he hadn't been elected vice, but regardless of how Riddle felt, Trey still felt responsible for him. Both out of guilt and because he was still family.

I’m not sure if someone’s said this before but I’ve always felt that Regulus could’ve very possibly been groomed as a child (And many other children that joined the death eaters upon adulthood).

Can you imagine Riddle visiting the Black’s when Sirius and Regulus were young to gain support. Can you imagine him targeting not the adults of the house but the children that were going to inherit it in probably less than a decade. Can you imagine little 10 year old Regulus Black, who’s advanced at magic and often quiet in contrast to his older brother who fights back. Imagine how Riddle would see this impressionable but powerful child from one of the greatest pure blood families in the UK and immediately seize that opportunity. Especially after Sirius starts at Hogwarts and Regulus is stuck there scared and alone. Riddle showing up randomly to play with him or take him for ice cream or whatever Regulus wanted. Him pretending to care and listen to Regulus and Regulus finally feeling like someone loves him. Seeing a second preferred father in Riddle.

When Regulus starts school he writes to him sharing everything and Riddle writes back short replies and keeps an eye on him. Regulus and Sirius starting to fight because of their family’s ideals. Riddle starts planting doubt in regulus’ mind about how much Sirius truly loves him, picking James over him etc.

The years go on, Riddle is the one there when Sirius leaves. Regulus beleives every word he says bc he truly thinks he’s the only person to have ever truly cared about him.

Regulus starts getting scared by the war. He doesn’t want to kill people, he knows it’s wrong, but when someone you idolize is constantly putting in your head that this is the right thing and those people are actually hurting you then you start to believe them.

The thing with manipulators tho, is they tend to get paranoid. Regulus starts getting really close with Dorcas Meadows who is a blood traitor. Riddle makes him take the dark mark. Oh his best friend Pandora Rosier leaves her pure blood family to get away from the war. Forces him on his first mission and to physically kill a civilian which Reg has protested against adamantly. His one thing is he didn’t want to have to kill someone. He starts using all these threats on Reg, but he does it slowly enough that he doesn’t notice. Still Reg is beginning to get cautious around him and go behind his back (as teenagers do, he still sees Riddle as this person who loves him so he’s not necessarily afraid but he starts to fight back little by little)

But oh the kicker is when Reg stays friends with Pandora, behind his back. Oh now this time Riddle takes Kreature. And that just happened to be one step too far.

Imagine 17 year old Regulus lending his beloved house elf out to his mentor, his idol, his father figure and expecting for him to treat this person regulus loves more than anything well and send him home safely only to find out how awful that person is. Imagine Regulus sobbing on his bedroom floor because nothing he thought was true in the last 7 years were real. Riddle never cared about him, he was a weapon, a thing to be controlled. Finding out everything he was taught was a lie and wrong and he should’ve just trusted his gut god damn it and left with Dorcas and Pandora. Imagine regulus realizing his brother was right all along and he loved something that would never give him anything real back. Imagine Regulus Black putting all of his hatred and spite into killing the man that had ruined his life. Imagine him signing that letter knowing Riddle was the one who taught him how.

I could say so much more about this situation and how much it hurt him. And now I’m just sad for that poor lil boy. They were children.

the feels in this chapter were so exceptional. i just felt the desperation, the hurt, the panic, the anxiety... and ik dumbledore felt hurt at what tom said ("father and son said what? "what?") when questioned by voldemort but what's curious to me is how ruby tries to act like she expects it (which she might which ig is more powerful since despite it all she was still affected) but she's also deeply hurt by it, just in denial. i do think tom is also unaware that everything he does might've started out a "repaying debts" and "choosing the better options" but definitely along the line he's developed some care for (ruby, dumbledore maybe even harry) and just can't bring himself to admit it or even recognise it. very very interesting dynamics. also, maybe this was like just for narratives sake but... does tom not know ron, hermione, and anthony's names?? 😭 (if he doesn't then that's just hilarious and definitely backs my hc that he's terrible at remembering people's name, esp their first names). also, during my re-read, i noticed that harry and ruby kind of see people they care about in riddle?? (harry sees some of hermione and ruby sees some of harry) and it freaks them out a lot and i think it's because it definitely humanises him to them, esp ruby who would do ANYTHING for her brother as established. i also was wondering about the riddle ring, nice to see ruby's still got it !! idk i just think this series is sick. i have so many thoughts that i've probably forgotten but this is long anyway so i'll end it here !

And Harry's plot armour is so insane that I was pretty sure I wasn't fooling anyone despite all the cloak and dagger and misdirection and deliberately hiding him from you for the better part of two chapters and waving my hands and yelling HE'S DEAD!!

I love love parallels and especially this one, too! It's a shame when they get flattened into the 'Black Madness' or other tropes. I feel like it's not really portrayed in the movies unfortunately (because they both got flanderised).

Yes, I haven't gone through the Original Texts with a fine-tooth comb to check for Complete Canonicity, though I know a lot of people say Bellatrix probably knew because Wormtail did (but Wormtail is too much of a coward to repeat the Dark Lord's Private Business and blood purity isn't a motivating factor for him, he just wanted to be on the winning side) and Barty at least knew that Voldemort had a bad 'relationship' with his dad, not necessary that he was a Muggle (but I think Voldemort only told him that to make him more loyal), if we just take what we know about Bellatrix and Voldemort at face value, I don't think he would ever tell her that one of his parents is a Muggle no matter how close they were (re: this really short meta and this slightly longer one). Yes, he (both Diary!Tom and Voldemort) told Harry but that's just for the good old 'you're just like me' hero/villain evil speech effect. Maybe this is a heretical take though, idk...

This!!! Tom is always going to be a character with low empathy IMO but that doesn't mean that he doesn't care at all, even if that's the reality delusion he tries to create for himself.

Ruby definitely sees Harry in him (because of the canon Harry/Tom parallels 'we even look something alike' and all that) and it (amongst other things) causes major cognitive dissonance. There are definitely Tom/Hermione parallels that Harry picks up in (being Muggle-born/assumed Muggle-born, being know-it-alls) but potentially the worse source of Riddle-related anxiety for him is how Dumbledore sees him (potentially both in the same way) versus the literal existence of Lord Voldemort versus his knowledge of his own parallels.

"Am I meant to feel sorry for him?" It was a genuine question. He could only think of Riddle standing before him the night the castle was attacked. Of the strange, misplaced kinship, of rage and pity. It was like seeing himself in one of those funhouse mirrors; his reflection twisted into something grotesque and disturbing.

And this is Darksnap herself! + a more realistic al pallete I created after 2020 when people became fixated on realism and didn't allow ocs from past roleplays in new once anyway, so I created her genderbent version and made an alt pallete, but the story remained the same. Sneaky👌✨

Story:

(Created in 2016-17, a bit fixed in 2019 or so) (was typed many days ago)

She was born in some unnamed_clan_1 to those 2 cats I posted earlier. Her clan had 1 more kitten + he was her age. Tigerkit, but he shares nothing with Tigerclones, don't worry lol. At some point her parents argue, divorce and leave the clan in 2 separate ways. Darkkit was confused and ask where are they going. And leader said they're leaving. Darkkit freaked out and ran to chase them, but leader stopped her. She got angry he let them abandon her and attacked him. Btw she was like 5 moons old by this time. Or idk. Leader who is named Oakstar (yey Maple inspo) was trying to calm the child, but when it didn't work he impulsively hit the child, thus leaving her her eye and ear scars. He regretted that immedietly, but it was too late. And Darkkit would forever remember that.

Later Darkkit became an apprentice and was training, having a desire to take revenge. I love stories that have revenge btw and I don't judge revenge as something bad. Only strong ones take revenge I think. The only bad from revenge that can be is a wrong aim. Anyway.

She almost 'graduated' from her apprenticeship, but her desire for revenge was stronger, so one night (she wasn't too small by then btw, it's been moons of training) the young cat crawled into the leaders den and tried to hurt and sufficate him. She managed to take only 1 of his lives. And btw this leader had less than 9, bc this clan is isolated, they don't need many lives and they keep some additional ones only as a tradition. But at the end leader climbs out, shrieks, the clan gathers to separate the attacker and the victim, and in the morning they hold a short gathering and exile Darkpaw. Her best friend Tigerpaw is sad. She swears revenge on them and death on the leader, and runs away.

She then roams the forest for a while, searching for anyone, and ends up noticing our rp clan that came from Twolegs' town to the forest area. She joins them, finishes her training and gets the name darksnap (lol this Bill Cipher cat was her mentor btw; Imma magician✨ /j) And her bestie gets the name Tigerswipe. Fun fact - I gave them names when I didn't know english that well yet. Couldn't even write on that without google, and me from past would be prouf to see me rn typing this huge paragraph by myself yey.

So. The lore doesn't end here, then my second oc chimes in. At first I was thinking about Riddle's brother, but the guy who roleplayed for Riddle left, so I switched to the guy I called Ainer. I came up with the name myself and spelled it as Iner lol. He and Darksnap shared a lot, so they bonded later, she would become the deputy of his group and they would go on revenge sprees together. First his clan and then hers. In the battle in one of the endings she would try attacking the leader, but her former friend Tigerswipe came to fight her. And I never wrote how that ended, but I liked tragic ends. In one alt end Ainer and Darksnap died and went to the Dark Forest way before they could start revenge sprees. And would train cats for their goals later, in theory. The characters who were supposed to kill them left the roleplay, so I had to change the script and they lived. They ended up living 'till the end and were a part of one adventure involving the previously forgotten character Goldenclaw, Riddle's brother.

I am also working on a huge project of writing marauders years 1-7, plus the war, plus beyond (hopefully). Anyways what you said about JKR hating your fic resonated strongly with me. I honestly don't understand how she's missed the point of HER OWN STORY so hard and tbh it seems like she was more interested in writing Tom Riddle and his backstory, not Harry's. I think she should've made a Tom Riddle story she just seems to write better for him than any other story line (not to mention how complicated she made it how much time she put into the villain's origins story instead of her MCs and how he was the most fleshed out character in all of HP but that's just my opinion) her writing is flawed, her plot were eh, basically none of the characters had any kind of character growth/ arc and they felt like cardboard not even mentioning a bunch of shitty stuff in there as well as, ofc, how there's NO FLAVOR. All of them are just straight white cis people (mainly men too???? like where's the feminism in the self proclaimed "feminists" writing???) and only included any kind of diversity when it was more acceptable (don't even get me started on Dumbledore being reveled gay but she killed Remus Sirius and Tonks off bc they were too camp when she was writing it) and beneficial for HER. not to mention all the misogyny, anti-Semitism, racist stereotypes, and harmful gay stereotypes and just plain bad writing like AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

umineko ch 8

chapter 8 is when umineko formally asks you to solve some gosh darn puzzles and i read it while being beset by chronic migraine. i finished reading back when i posted the previous seagull posts, and meant to organize my notes more but no ones reading these anyway so fuck it, raw notes. i realize only now that i've been providing reactions without much context to what i'm reacting to which surely makes it hard to follow. uu-uu.

so ange Is the pov character now. battlers goal must be more than to show ange that eva didnt do it. bc a version of her learning that was Torture "Ushiromiya Battler, the man who loses strategically to win in the end!" so i expected the Quiz Tournament to be About Umineko, not solving age-appropriate riddles for a 6yo lol. not complaining though [notes written while solving layton riddles are not interesting]. my result was 13/17, which i consider a pathetic showing. kumasawa, nanjo, rosa, and maria beat me. b-but only because i didn't really try some of them.

i was pissy about the whole "things you're better off not knowing" theme because i dont think thats true in reality. but i had forgotten that umineko is About storytelling before anything else. and in the context of stories, there's plenty of good reasons to leave something as unknown, ambiguous, or only implied.

yeah i think the answer arcs could've lead to an ending that i, personally, preferred more, while still staying consistent with the themes and puzzles and stuff, and i think that it could've even been edited down to seven shorter chapters without losing anything meaningful. BUT that ending would only satisfy me, and a hypothetical editor could have removed scenes i liked just as easily as they could remove things i found redundant. so if there can only be One Umineko for Everyone, better to have a little too much of it. but- i think it's fun to imagine alternate ways the answer arcs could have gone while still keeping yasu and kinzo's general backstories. in the same way that it is fun to idly imagine "what if star wars was good". not to say umineko is bad of course, i loved it. game of the year. book of the year. both it's both of them. just i mean it's a fun imagination space to play in. which was part of what they were talking about with not revealing everything, that i was missing initially. i'm very curious to see what fanmade Forgeries are like! but that is something to check out Later. misc thoughts at the end..

hey is yasu nonbinary, or only in the reality where they're not thrown off a cliff and abandoned? everyone uses feminine language for yasu in the ep7 flashback, and in a magic understanding they spend most of their time presenting as beatrice, and more of their identities are female, but kanon is always there, there's no moment of like, Disavowal. and with lion theyre more like "my gender is None Of Your Business teehee" than "i am nonbinary". which, i dunno, its consistent with both umineko and a lot of my friends for yasu's gender to not have an easy one word description, right. yeah it was written in 2011 but i think if it was written in 2021 it would probably be handled the same way.

i saw the thread where people found basically every character's outfit in lolita fashion magazines from shortly before umineko released, and like, whatever. could it be less blatant, yeah, but original release umineko was a writer doing character designs anyway, you've seen the wonderfully wonky original art. it's funny more than anything.

ok so!! to me, a lot of undertale, deltarune, and homestuck tracks and live in the same genre, so I ended up doing a mix of all three! I didn't do EVERY character, but i did a bunch of them! In no particular order Tucking them under a cut because it gets long!

Sanemitsu Isoi - Heir of Grief am i biased in giving this to sanemitsu? yes. but guys hear me out. hear me out. it's bittersweet and has strong motifs and i cry over the piano parts. you can associate different motifs and sections with different parts of Sanemitsu's Life, whether it be living as Minoru Harada, Sanemitsu Isoi, or Code:DANTE. I'm so normal

First of all, thank you I’m glad you like them :> These are characters from an original comic I’m about to post (the first chapter is almost ready), but this race does not appear in the main plot for some time, so I can say a few things without spoiling anything. I know it’s not a very original design, I mean, duh, who doesn’t have horns and tails right 🌚 So anyway, these guys are called yáve, and they are like… feral elves in a way. They live in forests/tundras in big clans and build funky colorful térems, mostly out of wood bc permafrost.

They looove all things colorful and worship the spirits of nature. The huge pink moth/dragon/reindeer guy? That’s one of them.

His/her name is Menerik and he/she is essentially a god(ess) of Northern Lights, the Moon, madness and magic. He/she is very coherently genderfluid, the gender depending on the moon faze. During the full moon she is a female entity, and when it’s a crescent he is considered male. On the new moon it is forbidden to speak of him. Fun fact - this also is reflected in their language, based on Russian, where a word for “moon” is feminine, and “crescent” is masculine). Since Menerik is a he for the most time, that’s what I would usually call him.

Most yave are mortal, their lifespan being close to humans, but there are two ways for them to achieve a sort of immortality. First is joining the Circle of Memories, an order that keeps their knowledge, culture and traditions and become essentially immortal through a ritual, and another way is becoming a mage and learning the ways to prolong life through contact with spirits. Any yave who starts learning magic is introduced to the spirits on the thinner layer of reality and give up their birth name, color and gender. Their new name they choose themselves, their new color is given by the spirits, and from the moment they start learning magic they are all non-binary, body and soul. All this “immortality” tho is really just a longer life, because they can still be killed, fall sick or get cursed, so there is hardly anyone older than 200 years there. There are rumors about mages over a thousand years old, but that’s spoiler territory)

Some stuff here is *very loosely* based on siberian shaman practices, some names and words borrowed from siberian folklore.

Some of the yave characters I’ve drawn so far:

There’s Chanava, the purple witch with blue horns, around 20 years or so; they will probably appear in the comic. They are a mage, and also joined the Circle, but neither have given them immortality or enough power. Not that they are desperate, just very curious.

Aravellane, their uuum king? Tsar? Prince? Whatever. The one in the crown and a blue fur coal a few posts earlier. A mage, but prefers he/him; he has a blade that can make whatever cut without killing you. Some say, he cut his own heart out with it once to stop feeling sad feelz, and the heart ran away, because he treated it terribly. Since then, an endless winter covered his part of land, and if it weren’t for the mages and trade of diamonds they mine, they’d all be very much fucked.

Myándush, the head of the Circle of Memories. Öld, woise, mistürios, all that. Speaks in riddles. Has a beef with Aravelle, though why, no one can tell.

Ryt’kheo - dabbles in magic, but is not officially introduced to the spirits. Makes airboats, which is basically a boat with a magic sail that can get it into air. The sails he weaves from wool and puts in threads of Menerik’s mane. He is considered one of the coolest craftsmen among the yavi, and everyone wants a flying boat, so he is always very fucking tired and 100% done. Random fact - a “Ryt’kheo” is not a name, it really means “Unnamed”. It is used to address someone who has already given up their name but have not yet taken a new one.

Harrahaye - Ryt’kheo’s brother, not much to say about him except that he is a pain in the ass. I’m still fleshing out their characters, so there you go x)

There is another one, who is more or less complete, but they will appear in the comic and are quite important, so all the info will be there 😌✨

You really tried to keep it hidden. It wasn’t something that everyone needed to know about.

Your parents loved you, at least that’s what they had said. But it was one of those things where you felt like it was for show - the kindness that they showed when you were around others faded away once you were alone with them.

You remember once they had said “of course I love you, I’m your parent!”

But that made you wonder how they would treat you if you weren’t theirs.

They were horrible to you for as long as you could remember. Gaslighting you and making you feel like you owed them something even though they were the ones who should have taken care of you.

They were around but never…there. They would be there for family dinners but they were always riddled with criticisms of grades and who you were talking to and how you dressed. All of your hobbies were seen as a waste of time, something you should only do when you had nothing else to do. School came first, naturally, but there was always something they told you you had to do before you could do anything for yourself.

Yet when you would complain about being depressed, they told you to get a hobby because you never do anything.

Tired meant lazy, energetic and passionate meant loud and annoying. When you were quiet they thought you had nothing to say, yet when you expressed your opinions you were told to shut up.

You couldn’t win.

You could never make them happy, there was always something you were doing wrong.

They thought it was their right to monitor who you talked to and saw, what you did outside of school, what sports you could join. When you would say no to the school dances or parties you would make up an excuse about not wanting to go or having work to do. Your friends would call you a buzz kill. Little did they know you would give anything to go.

Whenever you would do something wrong (or anything, period,), your parents would yell at you. They would curse you out, make you cry, only to yell at you for crying like a little bitch.

The older you got, the worse it was.

You thought when you moved out it would be better. But you had all these years of being told you were worthless and having them be your providers. When you got your own place you didn’t really have any friends, nor did you really know how to make friends. You had a job to help you get by, you could support yourself. That wasn’t the issue. You could support yourself, you always had to.

It was that you were so lonely.

You wanted friends but you were so afraid of the criticism you would get. You were afraid to make yourself known, because you were always taught that being told what to do and taught what to think was much more appealing than having your opinion.

But this was an opinionated world.

You were good at what you did, so good that you had gotten a job at S.H.I.E.L.D. You thought that would make you happy, more importantly that it would make your parents happy, but no such luck.

“I got a really great job, guys.”

“Fantastic. I guess you’re just doing so great without us,” they had snapped.

“What? I mean… this is what you wanted right? For me to get a good job?” you had said, confused.

You heard a loud sigh on the other end of the line. “Of course we do, what are you crazy about? Of course we wanted you to get a good job but you just deserted us like we were trash. Have we done nothing for you?”

You felt your heart sink in your stomach. ‘Of course you guys have, I love -”

“Don’t say what you don’t mean. If you really cared about us you’d be helping us out. You got a great job and probably have a huge paycheck that you hoard and you left us here to struggle to make ends meet.”

You took the phone away from your face temporarily to take a shaky breath. Of course they would go there with the salary, why wouldn’t they? All of your paychecks had gone to them, since it was their house and they were feeding you, leaving you with barely enough money for your car and gas and phone bills, only for them to suggest longer hours when you complained.

“I can help you guys out if you need,” you said, trying to keep your voice steady.

You heard an exasperated sigh on the other line again. “You really should be more grateful, you know? We raised you your entire life and then you leave us alone? You never even call us? You’re so fucking selfish.”

Then the line went dead.

You shook your head and felt tears in your eyes as you spoke to yourself. “Well maybe I would call you if it didn’t always yell at me.”

Of course, you would never say that.

See, it wasn’t so bad. You never said anything because they were only ever mean to you, which would make you uncomfortable. There were people out there that would get hit or who would have to raise themselves from a young age. Once you grew thick skin it wasn’t so bad, you were just being dramatic.

Right?

Your new job was fairly successful, you were fantastic at what you did. You did a lot of behind the scenes work, weapon repair and plans of action with missions. Not that they needed much help with that. Still, they took you in as their friends.

Well, as close as you would let them get to as friends.

It took a while before you warmed up to them. Everyone tended to keep to themselves, but not as much as you. You kept the parts of you hidden away - you were there for a job, you did it, and you did it well. You knew how to do your job but interacting with the team, making friends - you didn’t want to get emotionally attached.

Not like you knew how to make friends to begin with.

Naturally you were drawn to the quieter side of the team, once you were able to open up. They were all nice but sometimes the parties and the jokes were a bit much. You just didn’t want to say or do the wrong thing that would make you the punchline.

No one needed to know about you, or how you would spend your free time being yelled at through a phone with you trying to make it better. That wasn’t part of the job, so you shouldn’t bring it up.

It wasn’t like anyone would want to help. You were just a nuisance to everyone around you.

Right?

No one talked about their life before the team much. Not many people on the team had a great life before the Avengers first came together. Natasha or Wanda had once spoken about how this team was a family. And as much as you wanted to believe it, you helped the team. You weren’t a part of the team. So even if that were true, it didn’t include you.

At least, that was your point of view.

The team viewed you as a part of the team as much as any of them. You didn’t fight with them but you made sure everything would go as smoothly. You were kind and great at what you did, but they wished you would open up more. Of course, being a team of people who had trouble opening up, they understood.

Bucky was one of the ones who took a liking to you, mostly because he saw a lot of himself in you. He could tell there was something that you were trying to get past but weren’t quite able to yet. That there was something bothering but you wouldn’t dare say it for fear of bothering someone. You threw yourself into projects and distractions and from the way you carried yourself, he guessed you were avoiding something that you weren’t ready to work through. At least, not yet.

He knew that feeling too well.

The ex-assassin was one of the easiest for you to open up to because he didn’t expect much from interactions. Both of you were quiet and kept to yourselves that there wasn’t much pressure to share anything or say anything. You knew his past but would never bring it up unless he wanted to. Which eventually, he did. You could tell he felt pressure to be who he was before HYDRA took him, and while Steve was surprised he opened up to you first, you weren’t. Steve knew Bucky before everything, and you didn’t have that bias. He was whoever he was today regardless of who he was yesterday.

And Bucky found comfort in that.

You think you would’ve too, if you thought you deserved it enough to do the same.

See, you were worried that you were making everything worse than it really was. You worried that maybe you were being too sensitive or that what you had grown up with was normal. With everything that everyone on the team went through, a few insults from your parents was hardly anything. You were being dramatic.

There was nothing to be sad or angry about. You just had to get over yourself.

Right?

You were getting by until one night when your parents called, as they did on occasion. You were in the middle of working, so you ignored it. The phone went to voicemail before it started ringing again, and you ignored it, again. The third time you sighed and picked up your phone, turning away from your work.

You took a deep breath before you answered. “Hello?”

“What the hell is wrong with you?”

You closed your eyes and brought a hand to rub your head. “Well I’m doing fine, thank you, how are you?”

“Don’t give me that attitude. What the fuck are you doing? You’ve been ignoring our calls.”

You stood up to pace the floor slightly, dreading the conversation that was coming. Is it the ‘family is most important’ or the ‘where’s my money?’ speech today? “I’ve been working.”

“What, so work is more important than family now? Is that what this is? You don’t care about us?”

Family speech it is.

“Dad -”

“What if one of us was dying? Huh? Would that be important?”

“Stop it. No one is dying, and I was working. And I have more work to do, so I really have to go.”

“You don’t get to tell me what to do, I’m your father.”

Gaining confidence you gritted your teeth and snapped, “You know what? I’m an adult now so you can’t tell me what to do.”

There was silence on the other end of the line and you could practically hear the steam coming out of your father’s ears.

At some point Bucky had come down to your working space to check on you, seeing as it was nearly morning. He stopped in the doorway, and seeing you were busy on the phone he thought he would stop by later to give you some privacy. But he stopped when he heard you snap.

You never snap.

“Who do you think you’re talking to you ungrateful little bitch?”

“I’m talking to the people who treated me like shit my entire life and ask me for money when you wouldn’t give me the time of day for 18 fucking years.”

Even you couldn’t believe the words coming out of your mouth. But god did it feel good to say them.

“Are you fucking serious right now? We did nothing for you? What do you think we’ve been doing your whole life? We’ve done everything we did to help you be the best person you could be. You have that job now because of us and you have no right to speak to me that way.”

You chuckled darkly as you looked up at the ceiling, unaware of Bucky’s presence behind you. “My entire life all I’ve ever wanted to do was make you guys proud of me. But you know what? I’m fucking done. You hated me, gaslighted me, and made me hate myself almost as much if not more than you seemed to hate me.”

“I did no such thing you ungrateful -”

“You were supposed to love me and care for me, and all you did was take advantage of me. I’m not your child, I’m a paycheck. I don’t owe you anything because you gave me nothing. So you know what? FUCK. YOU.”

You hung up the phone and tossed it across the room, adrenaline taking over your body as you tried to stop shaking. Because a small part of you felt bad.

But fuck did that feel amazing.

You heard a throat clear behind you and you turned around to see Bucky, eyebrows furrowed in concern.

“You okay?”

You nodded nervously, rubbing the sides of your arms. “Yeah, I’m fine,” you said, unconvincingly. “How much, uh...how much did you -

“Enough,” he said, pushing himself off of the door frame as he crossed over to you. “Who was that?”

“Bucky, don’t, it’s really fine. I just got a little worked up.”

“Y/n,” he started, looking at you with concern. “Who were you talking to?”

“No one.”

“You don’t get upset like that at no one,” he took your hands in his. “Y/n, you're shaking.”

It was then that you realized your hands were still shaking, trying to keep the anxiety of what happened at bay.

It’s going to be so much worse now.

I can never talk to them again.

Is that a good thing? Didn’t I want that?

Bucky could sense you getting lost in your head. “Sweetheart, tell me what happened, please. I want to help you.”

You pulled your hands away from his and crossed your arms. “You can’t help me because there’s nothing wrong, okay? I handled it, it’s over. Done. nothing to worry about.”

“Y/n -”

“No really, there’s nothing you can do, okay?”

“Will you at least let me try?”

You looked at him, adrenaline starting to drain from your system. This was Bucky, your Bucky, who had never done anything but love and support you. He had never done anything to hurt you.

But what if he left you too?

You took in a sharp breath and curled in on yourself, a scared look on your face. Bucky crossed back over to you, seeing a scared look on your face.

“Hey, hey, y/n? Can you look at me?”

You brought your eyes up to meet his, feeling your chest constricting as you tried to keep your breathing even. It wasn’t working.

“I - I’m sorry, you shouldn’t… I’m fine really I’m sorry, I’m so sorry”

“Hey, it’s alright, it’s okay, you have nothing to apologize for,” he pulled you in for a hug and kissed the top of your head. “Let’s go sit down, okay?’

He led you over to your bed and you leaned forward, hands on your knees and head in your hands. “I’m sorry, I don’t know what’s happening, this - I’m sorry, it’s so stupid, I’m so stupid.”

Bucky rubbed a hand up and down your back, hushing you. “It’s not stupid. If it’s bothering you, it’s not stupid.” Bucky took a small breath. “Do you remember all of those times after nightmares and all those panic attacks you would walk me through? How I thought I was being stupid?”

“You weren’t being stupid”

“And neither are you.”

You took some more shaky breaths as tears kept falling down your face. “You’re okay. It’s alright, I’m right here.”

Bucky let you calm down, knowing you would talk about it if you wanted to. He wanted you to talk about it so he could help you (and hurt whoever upset you) but he wouldn’t force you into telling him anything you didn’t want to.

The two of you sat in the silence, Bucky looking at you with soft eyes as you kept your face hidden.

“I haven’t told you a goddamn thing about me. You ever wonder why?”

You looked over at Bucky, eyebrows creased with slight confusion.

“They said blood was supposed to be thicker than water. That family comes first, right? I spent my whole life listening to them and following them and being the perfect kid. I made myself into everything they wanted me to be. And it still wasn’t enough for them.”

Bucky tilted his head slightly. He hadn’t known his parents much before they died but he had always wanted to have more time. But he wasn’t oblivious to the fact that not everyone had good parents.

“You know, I remember thinking that once I made it they would be happy. That if I worked hard enough or went onto do great things that they would be proud of me. That’s all I ever wanted, you know?” you said, voice wavering as you let out a bitter laugh. “But it’s not, you know? Never is, never was, never will be. All they do is take and take and no matter how good I am they’re always gonna hate me because I can’t be perfect.”

“No one’s perfect, y/n.”

“Well that’s what they want me to be. I know I can’t be perfect so I know they’ll never be happy. That they’ll call me ungrateful and selfish for succeeding and for leaving them when they never wanted me to be there to begin with.” You felt tears spill over as you wiped them away. “And I’m ust so fucking done with being a disappointment to them and to everyone else.”

“Why didn’t you tell anyone?”

“I don’t know,” you said softly, not really wanting to be more vulnerable.

Bucky, sensing this was a time he could push you, challenged you. “I think you do.”

You shook your head. “I didn’t want anyone to see me the way they did. I thought what they said wasn’t true but...I just thought that maybe I was overreacting. Other people have it worse you know - some people have no parents or some have it so much worse. Mine just yell at me you know? Tell me everything’s my fault and that they wish they’d never had me. That I’m ungrateful for not being with them and that I owe them. I just...I heard that for the first 18 years of my life. I didn’t need any more of it.”

“y/n, that’s…” he swallowed, trying to contain his anger. “That’s not normal. No one should have to go through that. You can’t possibly think you're a bad person.”

Your shrug was enough to tell him that you did.

“Y/n, I don’t know who your parents think they are but you don’t owe them a damn thing. You may be related to them but you have no obligation to love your parents if they treat you like that. You have every right to be angry or to hate them. It doesn’t make you a bad person to be angry with someone who hurt you.”

“But they’re my family.”

“Well they didn’t treat you like it. You have us now, you don’t need them anymore. We’re your family. And we’re not gonna leave you.”

“They didn’t leave me Bucky, I left them.”

“You can’t leave someone who was never there for you.”

I do think she might be a little sad, but she'd find new and creative ways around those differences.

Like if she got druid, flowery nature powers from Keyleth? It would be a little like a rebirth, like reinventing herself, finding new and creative ways to be her scary scary self that are also so inherently beautiful and full of softness, just like Laudna. How would her sorcerer mix with that? Would her flowers be more thorny? A little burnt and bloody on the edges? Would she like mushrooms more, since they're a little dead too? Would her powers feel a little like death as a force of nature? Like autumn taking down the leaves off trees, decaying them into the bones, the soil, growing into something beautiful, even in death? Would she exchange death for healing? Wilthing a flower to heal a wound, killing a spider to bring a friend back, something given, something gained and all that.

And what if she got Morrigan, a whole ass HAG to be her patron? How scary would she be then? I am picturing very much fairy tale, baba yaga kinda thing here. Maybe she'd be able to turn into animals, move through shadows, give people riddles and contracts for things they should never bargain with. Maybe she'd have whimsical, luring powers, the kind that beckons and calls into the forest, that makes even the sharpest minds wander aimlessly until, far too late to mean anything, they realize they'd fallen into a horrible, unescapable threat.

The vampire possibility is a personal favorite too. I mean, can you imagine vampire Laudna? A bit more confident, more sure of herself, a bit sharpened and hardened around the edges by the thirst, the fast reflexes, the very newfound strength? I personally think she'd find it fun to zoom around her enemies in the shadows, circling around people like a panther cornering their prey, grinning, white-fanged, from the darkness that settles in the corner of a room. It would also be absolutely delightful to have Imogen turn Laudna into a vamp, just another parallel to Delilah and Silas, because they don't have enough I don't think.

The Boys s3 finale spoilers below

So I finished the finale, and I have a lot I thoughts I will express here. Read if you will, or dont, whichever.

So first of all I was surprised to see that soldier boy didnt team up with homelander like I, and everyone else on the internet thought he would. I honestly didnt expect him, the homicidal trauma riddled piece of shit soldier boy to realized how fucked up and sad homelander actually is. Like I expect sb to be proud of homelander, to be like yeah that's my boy, you're doing fucking great. Now idk if that's a good thing or a bad thing. Like is that just hypocrisy on sb part because in many aspects they're the same? Or is that sb realizing that vought created a monster riddled with attention seeking and narcism who got sbs worst traits and some more? I have no clue, but I was definitely cheering him on when he told him he wished he had been there to raise him better. Would he have? No idea, he probably wouldve been exactly like sb with less inclement to murder everyone at will. But i was just happy sb wanted to fuck him up.

But then he got his ass handed to him by everyone like he was the bigger threat. Like yes, he would've blown up the entire building with everyone still in it, but the fuck were they expecting him to do to begin with? They acted like he was a bigger threat than homelander, which like maybe in the long run, but then? They should've let him fuck up homelander, but then again, the writers need homelander to be invincible for the next season, so they said hey you soldier boy, I know we talked you up big name for an entire season, but you're too much a threat so were gonna take you out instead. But not kill you, in case we want to end the show and only you can kill homelander now that maeve is gone. So were gonna keep you in storage keeping for now, also everyone likes you so, we might keep you around.

But I find it kind of ironic that the second the feds found him they put him back under, no hesitation, like he was this big threat. When they let homelander do whatever and kill as many people as he wanted for years. Like do yall not see homelander has been out of control for years??? Where's your energy with him? At least sb doesnt laser people's head up out of entertainment. But hey, again, we need homelander to be untouchable. So hey sb killed a a few dozen people on accident? Were gonna lynch him bc hes a threat, but when homelander lasers and kills people out in the street were gonna cheer him on. Fuck yeah.

The ending really did piss me off. Fucking Ryan tho. Like I bet you my left ovary hes gonna try to be a mini homelander, homicidal and psychotic tendencies and all. Like the way he smiled after homelander lasered that dudes head off? Fuck, SB was right to want to torch him too.

Lets take a second to honor noir, he deserved to least throw punches with soldier boy. I didnt want either to die, but it wouldve been cathartic to see him fuck sb up a bit. BUT NO, the writers once again said, fuck any character who can be a threat to homelander, and fuck any character you've remotely liked this season. He dead. And maeve? Oh yeah no she gone too. Tho at least she didnt die, and also she went out in a badass way. Fucking tackling the shit out of sb mid radioactive blast? Shes a fucking queen for that. Tho I'm happy shes finally happy with her girl and away from homelander, if anyone deserved it was her.

Speaking of queens, definitely happy Starlight is one of the boys now. It's what she should've done since s2.

Overall, pretty interesting ending for sure. Like I expected so many things for this finale and it was all the complete opposite. It definitely sets up for a fourth season which I'm obviously excited for. I'm really hoping Jensen comes back for a fourth season now that we saw Benny Boy is alive and well, sort of. Honestly he quickly became one of my favorite characters, they gave him some pretty solid background (the real one, the one hes told, not the bs we were told seasons prior) like he has solid potential to be a great character (great character writing wise, hes still shitty and awful, but hey, bad guys can be fun sometimes). And I'm glad all of our faves are alive and well. Except noir, rip my beloved homicidal maniac. And fuck you homelander and your devil spawn.

Some more New Era thoughts:

First of all I'm now very sorry for ever doubting that they could dispose of Daisy's attraction to women. I do have complaints about hers and Andy's marriage which I'll get to in a minute but the Daisy/Myrna content was PRESENT

The Mary/Myrna content was not as abundant as I had wished for but honestly I've built ships with less. At least Mary went to see her movie and called her hot. Also they stood next to each other a few times which is always good and I'm SURE I can work with the voiceover thing

Also I'm kind of sad about her lack of affair 😭 I mean, I wasn't really expecting an affair (especially not with Myrna), it was mostly wishful thinking, but tHEY REALLY MADE A MARY/DIRECTOR (I forgot his name 😔) AFFAIR SEEM LIKE A POSSIBILITY AND THEN BACKTRACKED.

I'm too angry with Henry Talbot to even put it into words. All I will say is Mary my queen I would treat you so much better than him

Anyway, what the fuck was with Cora being sick?? What was the point??? What did it add to the movie besides misery???? Riddle me THAT Mr "it's a feel-good movie" Fellowes

Also wHY THE FUCK DID THEY KILL VIOLET ON-SCREEN. I WAS EXPECTING THEM TO JUST END IT LIKE THE LAST ONE AND BE LIKE "oh yeah Violet will die soon 😔" BUT NOOOO WE HAD TO SIT IN THE FUCKING CINEMA AND WATCH THE LIFE LEAVE HER FUCKING BODY. WHAT THE FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK.

Okay I saved Thomas for last because once I get started on him I am not going to stop.

I know a lot of people don't like the implication that he just stays at Downton because he thinks it's the best he's going to get, which is fair, but honestly, I got way more of that feeling with his elopement??

Like, maybe this is just because I don't like Guy that much, but I didn't really get the feeling that Thomas was interested in him at all? I feel like he just accepted him because he thought it was his only chance at being in a committed relationship, and just,,,,, idk I didn't like it.

There is exactly one positive(??) thing about this, which is that I can now parallel him to Sybil :)))

However, this is not nearly enough compensation. And I'm so sorry but my desire to ignore this movie does outweigh my devotion to Thomas and Sybil. So I think I'll just take the fact that she borrows his evil music and be happy with that

Where do I begin with Richard.

This is the worst thing that could have happened I think. I really really thought they were just going to pretend that Richard didn't exist and I mean I would have been angry about that as well bUT THIS IS WORSE.

Genuinely I would have preferred if Thomas cheated on him. Do you know how long I've been plotting the Richard "Before He Cheats" music video in my brain????? It's been fucking months. And they even took THAT away from me.

AND they took away the pre-existing Richard's wife extended universe which exists in my brain. Y'all. They were neighbours growing up. She's a lesbian. I haven't decided if he marries her before or after the war but it happens at some point and they move to London and get a flat. She's a very good cook and makes all their food bc Richard can't cook for shit. But it's fine because she can't sew for shit and Richard fixes all their clothes. She works in a bakery. Her girlfriend is Lady Anne Acland (one of the women at that dinner with Mary and Henry and Evelyn and Tom in S6). She ships Richard and Thomas very hard. Her name is Maggie. I'm very attached to her. AND NOW THEY TELL ME HE'S MARRYING SOME RANDO?????? SERIOUSLY I'M GOING TO SUE.

(I honestly didn't even ship Thomas and Richard very much after I found out about the deleted phone call scene (I KNOW IT WASN'T ACTUALLY IN THE MOVIE SO IT'S NOT TECHNICALLY CANON BUT IT'S THE INTENT THAT MATTERS TO ME), but then I had a dream about Richard's wife being a lesbian and trying to set up Richard and Thomas and THAT was what made me think the ship could work. And now they take my lavender marriage happily ever after solution away. What the FUCK)

Anyway. Dead Violet, runaway Thomas, Baxley endgame..... there definitely isn't going to be a third movie and they really just ended the whole fucking franchise like this. I'm currently on S6 in my permanent Downton rewatch but girlies I might just have to go all the way back to S1 to calm my nerves 😩

summary: i can’t think of a plot so maybe something like the reader first joining the group and she’s rlly shy and innocent so all the losers don’t want her near richie but one day he tries talking to her alone but they get detention somehow bc of him so her and richie have to do work like cleaning up classes and he rubs off on her and she picks up his sayings so the losers freak out?

A/N: I’m so sorry it took me this long to write it, I hope you still enjoy though 

Richie Tozier is characterized by his crude remarks. Friends, peers, teachers and parent alike know that if they want their respective students, friends or children to behave and remain innocent, they best separate them by a mile from Richie himself. New kids are warned to scoot if Richie tries to approach them, and if you’re seen talking to him, it’ll come as no surprise to anyone that curse words will become your second nature.

The losers club, aka Richie’s friends, accept this about him - except for Stan, who maintains his near perfect grammar despite being Richie’s oldest companion- and would never try to withhold him from getting to know new people and forming a friendship, but that doesn’t mean they try to shelter said person on occasion.

The first day you arrived at Derry high, eyes casted downwards as to not initiate eye contact with anyone out of shyness, the losers knew that they had to keep Richie’s crude words and humor away from you. They approached you, and just like any descend peer and classmate would do, took you under their wings. It wasn’t a secret that you were a shy person, riddled with social anxiety and the apprehensiveness to stand up for yourself, but the losers had tricks up their sleeve to help you overcome that fear. They do after all have a lot of experience in that department.

Your calmness contradicts everything that Richie claims to stand for -he’d never openly admit to his softer, more well-spoken side-, and though there is nothing wrong with either, the losers still maintained that you had to be eased into getting introduced to Richie’s abrasive persona.

Richie still hung out with you plenty, in fact it seemed as if you and Richie developed the closest friendship out of all of them, but as soon as the first syllables of an explicate would be formed, the other losers would loudly cuff of gently nudge Richie to let him know to stop talking.

For the most part, at least in the beginning, Richie stuck to his promise he had made with the losers. He tried his best to not let any lewd langue’s slip around you, with the exertion of mom jokes - the losers couldn’t convince him to forgo those – and with a few misshapes not counted in, they rarely happened.

But then, unexpectedly and unfitting for you, both Richie and you get detention. Richie has gotten detention before, a lot in fact, but never had their timid, newest addition of the losers club been in any kind of trouble. It frustrated even Bev and Ben, and Richie of course, when Eddie, Stan and you ganged up on them to be the voice of caution, refusing to do anything remotely illegal or dangerous. So you getting detention was not something any of them ever saw happening.

It came as no surprise to find out Richie had pulled you into trouble with him, by babbling away in class and trying to get you to respond to his hyper antics in the middle of the class with the teacher every student feared most, Miss Michez. He would throw props of paper your way, write stuff on it and beg for you to respond to it, yell out random things until you caved in and laughed so hard you nearly snorted. Miss Michez, never one to allow any descriptiveness in her class, hurried to give Richie detention, and by default you, to find any reason to chase him out of her classroom.

It didn’t matter to her that today was the first day of the year that the sun actually warmed up the surface, and that a bunch of test were impending and the losers had hoped for one last day of relaxing. All she thought of was punishing her students.

The losers, already planning on hanging out that day, decided to wait for the two of you outside of the school, even knowing that you and Richie were likely to be stuck there for at least an hour after everyone else was dismissed.

They were waiting in a state of uncertainty. They’d never seen you upset, or sad before, and you might not be now either, but they had no idea what to expect. They didn’t know if you were the type of person to freak out over getting in trouble with elders, or if you didn’t care. Assuming you would be upset, the losers collectively bundle their pocket money and got to the store around the corner of the school and bought heaps of comfort food.

When they were done shopping, they made sure to loiter around the front of the school. A part of them was hopeful that Richie managed to keep you bright and happy and smiley, but they know that detention isn’t a joke so prepare for the worst.

At the hour and a half mark, the usual duration of detention on a Wednesday, Richie lanky body flew out the door, the door sweeping open and shut behind him. He had his arm tucked over your shoulders, and he laughed as he led you away from the - what he described as - grounds of hell.

sjdhcbcdub nonnie, the fact that you are absolutely right is both funny and sad, bc a huge majority of the characters need extensive therapy, emotional and mental fixing, and positive surroundings/genuine love and affection. tbh they all just need a hug.

mercury definitely needs to seek out therapy; i mean, the dude was ostracized from birth just because of his being biracial, which is literally completely fine, but royalty in pigeon kingdom sucks ass. also he definitely has major daddy issues, and no, it isn't the quirky kind like those weird 12-year-olds say. like his father straight-up tried to assassinate him when he was a kid just to protect his position and reputation is so wrong on so many levels. so it's not a surprise to anyone when he finally kills his dad, although this highlights how twisted mercury himself has become. he's no longer innocent and has become jaded to the world around him, and only has himself to rely on now. mercury hardly had anyone who was truly kind to him, the exception being his half-sister and his mother, and literal strangers, so he's been utterly deprived of genuine affection and love and as a result, sees true love as something that doesn't exist and openly wonders if does exist at all.

qin yi is another antagonist that needs therapy, mainly emotional therapy, seeing his background. he was born in the slums and had to scrounge for food and even had to starve for days at a time, and would even have to steal food just to satisfy his hunger. later, when he began to train to become an actor, he was constantly bullied and beaten into submission, because nobody believed he'd ever become someone important, much less someone in the world regardless. qin yi had no choice but to bury his true self, and his brewing emotions just to become the man he is today. so when he gives the first performance that gave him the fame he has today, he had likely thrown away any last shred of himself, the real him, and embraces this new, lifeless him that wears a constant mask and manipulates every one around him.

zoey has had to become a soldier ever since she was young, and she definitely shows how war, violence, and death can twist and jade a child. she's literally had to kill people around her pre-teens, something no child should ever have to do in the first place, but she did. she's become so accustomed to it that she sees it as normal and shows no hesitancy when it comes to partaking in gunfights, as seen in her mind maze. she even had to shoot her mentor, and while it's never explicitly stated, we can guess that this has stuck with her ever since. while zoey has indeed become much more influential and stronger, especially with how she presents herself to others, she'll still carry those mental scars of a childhood that was riddled with death, guns, and bullets.

loen started out as a soldier, and it goes without saying that soldiers have definitely seen shit while serving, and sometimes they get more than they bargained for. with loen's case, he's literally been on the frontlines of war, seen the aftereffects of it, loved through it all and even witnessed people dying in pretty gruesome ways. but surprisingly, he handles all of this quite well and keeps a smile on his face, still being realistic but still maintaining a cheery attitude. he doesn't show any symptoms of ptsd, like any soldier may show, loen would definitely carry the trauma of war within his mind but chooses to look past it and focus on the more positive side.

lilith/ashley is a definite showcase of pretty privilege, but also how people only love you for your looks, and not for your personality and you as a whole. because of the beauty standards of where she grew up, she was alienated and bullied by her own foster sister relentlessly. it was sad because she was a genuinely good person and was incredibly pretty, even with the blemish that covered her eye. when she becomes lilith, everyone loves her. they adore her. they shower her with praises, with love, all of the things she could have ever wanted. she became a literal queen for fucks sake because of her beauty. but in reality, nobody loves "her." they do not truly care for her. they only love her because of her beauty, and not for the person she is. so even if she is surrounded by her people's love, she will always be alone and no one will love the real her. and she knows it.

poor nikki has been through so much, has seen so much, and she carries these burdens wherever she goes. however, unlike the majority of these characters, she has a support system. she has people to fight for, she has people who genuinely love her for who she is, and she has a good heart. she has us and momo to rely on, but a majority of the time, she completely relies on us. we give her the boost she needs, we aid her because we care about her, and nikki knows and cherishes this. she spills her heart out to us, and we listen and give the appropriate responses. so she remains to be the good person she is, because she has us and momo at her side, and she'll continue to mature and grow because of the positive influence she has.
