Quick end of episode rapid fire thoughts
Capitalism and ai will doom us until we forcibly end the hold greed has over humanity. Organized religion is absolutely a part of the problem BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE Y’ALL JUST GOTTA STOP OPRESSING AND KILLING OTHERS IN THE NAME OF YOUR FUCKING GODS! Humanity has done and still has the potential to do amazing things but we gotta hold compassion higher than greed and control.

Achilles, my poor little meow meow, the wettest, angriest, most pathetic man I've ever seen

looking at athena’s wikipedia page for fic research and finding this trojan war era art of athena wearing a boar helmet…. i wasn’t specifically looking for even more odysseus and diomedes boar parallels but when god speaks i must Listen
#ive connected the dots#actually i had in mind something about athena master of war being kind of disappointed in odysseus for choosing to feign madness instead of#immediately running to troy to fight for glory because he’s in love and she’s like what is so special about love#I’ll still write it but rn im rotating the boar parallels in my mind…. im thinking….#i know i already wrote one boar fic. but.#odydio#diomedes#odysseus#greek tag

I'm unable to explain my thoughts well-enough but I do think one of the reasons Odysseus is my favorite hero from the whole Ancient Greece is because I'm brazilian. Hear me out: Odysseus wins by being the cleverest, not always the most inteligent (that would likely be Palimedes, who Odysseus murders at cold blood) and definitivaly not the strongest.
He doesn't take the bow to war but that is his favorite weapon, the weapon that is stated as a coward's one, the one Paris is mocked for using. And that adds to: he refused honor, he tried to dodge his word and avoid the war. He wants the recognizement and glory (as Diomedes absolutly knows) and after they go he does everything to win (looks to all the war crimes including Iphigenia and Pilocteles) but he never wanted to be there at all.
His second act of cleverness is his failure at pretending to be mad (bonus points for the fact Penelope helped, they are two peas in a pot or however the expression goes) and his dishonorable act is what made me fall in love with him. Because dying for glory, for my country, was never really in my culture, if Brazil decided to invade Paraguay again right now even the people who deny the first war crimes would just go "heck no". When President Lula criticized Venezuela even the people that agreed with him were all like "sure but please don't go to war over it we really don't wanna". The army does dictatorships and paint roads and I fully preffer the roads.
On the other hand being clever and resorcefull those are our heros. Loyal not to a country but to their people, and very much not the most moral people. É o jeitinho brasileiro. And while it does help to maintain a culture of corruption (tho absolutly not as much as people make it seem, the corruption is waaay more because of the power imbalance, income inequality, imperialism, the belief the 1% always have that they are better and the dehumanization of the working class). Is the belief that while yes it is absolutly wrong to let's say throw an infant from a wall because otherwise he'll grow up to destroy your family, better Hector's son dies than yours.
Is selfish but it's also in a lot of ways the recognizement that glory is meaningless. Surviving and helping other people survive, achiving happiness is way more important. Our kids are not pretending to be older to go to war and if they try they better prepare to deal with their mother's rage. We are suppose to never get into a fight. But if we do anyway we better win and come back or else.
#i'm afraid of getting motorcycle rides#not because I'm afraid of bikes but because if I die in a motorcycle accident after my mom told me they were dangerous#she'll bring me back only to kill me#jeitinho brasileiro[#brazilian way#the odyssey#odysseus#not wanting to go to war does it for me#i saw someone coment about how ody's revenge on palimedes was because palimede's was smarter and stoled his glory#only to be corrected that it was because palimedes threatened to hurt telemachus#both still talked about how one action or five seconds#and I was like no it was cause he made odysseus goes to war#it was the ten years#I genuinaly can't understand achiles#is why katniss makes sense to me but captain american doesn't#katniss voluntereed for her family#she was fighting an opressive system for her people#steve volentereed for honor#i don't care for honor#palimedes is a better person than odysseus#but ody is humanity at is best and worst#ody is the modern hero#and i love him#the illiad#the epic cicle#epic the musical#mostly because it is what got me in the good old odysseus obcession i thought i had leaft behind at 14

I sort of like the thought that Zuko and Aang take the Sun Warriors' warning not to tell anyone about the dragons a little more seriously… and they keep it between them. Of course, they trust Sokka, Toph and Katara. Of course they know they wouldn’t tell anyone, but now three people (including Iroh) know the truth about Ran and Shaw. And that’s three too many when you’re trying to keep a secret.
(and there are other people at the temple as well - like Haru, Teo and The Duke - who, while trustworthy, aren’t as close to them as the others, and when it comes to secrets with as much consequence as this one, you can’t afford to take any chances.)
Furthermore, the culture within the Fire Nation since Sozin’s rein has been warped. The culture is not to respect the dragons as the original firebenders, it’s to conquer and kill them. It’s the ultimate proof of your strength as a firebender. All it takes is one mistake before rumour spreads, and people go looking for the ultimate hunt. It’s not something Zuko or Aang can risk.
Whether Katara, Toph and Sokka (and Suki) ever find out the truth is up to you. But post-war, after Zuko returns from a strange, poorly explained trip with a dragon, and eventually develops the ability to use rainbow fire, either the others have some questions about Aang’s knowing look, or they are finally let in on a monumental secret.
#it’s a kids show so i think for that reason it was played for laughs about keeping the dragons a secret is not necessarily a bad choice...#the show does that sometimes where it says something off hand and then leaves me lying face down contemplating ✨the consequences✨ of that#but there are some… implications there about being too loose lipped with the truth in leading up to the end of and immediately post#war fire nation. just because zuko understands the spiritual significance of a dragon it does not mean the rest of his people will. actuall#its more likely that they'd reject zuko's opinion considering that he's basically coming into power and then telling everyone that#they've been lied to their whole lives. the fire nation is drowning in propaganda. for a lot of people this opinion of dragons and#firebending's true nature being violence and destruction is all they know. fire is LIFE but to most people that's an alien concept#and in terms of keeping secrets - it’s not even a matter of trust it’s a matter of too many people knowing#you might not even realised you’ve revealed some incredible information to someone who has the means to spread it or pursue it#so… i think zuko would be hyper aware of this. since he grew up hearing stories about the 'glory' of dragon hunting#and since iroh has also made a concerted effort to keep this information hidden i think it makes sense he’d be very hesitant to let it#get out to the public#aang would agree i think esp if zuko explained the importance of hiding them even from loved ones#ALSO random but it also makes me wonder what the fire nation said about roku in wake of the war#he had a dragon but he didn’t kill it. he didn’t ’conquer’ it#sozin would have had to work his ASS off to reframe history as him being the more… loyal(?) patriotic (?) of the two#did he frame it as roku didn’t have the courage to kill a dragon??? that he lacked the strength of a true firebender?#the avatar works hard but sozin's propaganda machine works harder 🧍♀️#zuko#aang#avatar the last airbender#zuko & aang#jack talks#sun warriors#book 3#what is it with me having a whole separate post in the tags 👁️👄👁️

There's this pull in recovery to feel behind in comparison to your peer group, and that's, of course, a valid feeling. It's understandable, but I think a lot of what we don't remember is that... they often aren't starting out in the same place you are.
I think part of the reason so many feel terrible about "being behind" is that it feels like we have to blame ourselves for being behind. If you just weren't affected by it, you'd be right where your peers are, right? It's a way to blame yourself in severe cases.
Recovery isn't about "catching up," I think. It's about pressing the play button and letting yourself live. You might never "catch up," you might never be at the "same level," but that fundamentally doesn't change that your life is worth living how you want it to.
#mental health#recovery#i always conceptualize it in a metaphor of planets...#...because it feels like my own has stopped completely and everything in it has withered away...#...i don't think people think 'time has stopped but the world is moving on without me' as profound until you experience it...#...because i'll look at other people and what their metaphorical planets look like and i just... find it heartbreaking if i let it...#...and i think the comparison in recovery can easily be a way for you to weaponize your own suffering against yourself...#...because it DOES feel good and it feels productive to be the punished and the punisher...#...and that shields you away from recognizing that it's almost literally the opposite of freeing or productive#to me it's akin to the viewpoint that suffering is divine and is a Test Of Mettle#that if you only suffer until the day you die you will Be Rewarded...#...but i find that there is no glory in a war waged against yourself...#...that the battlefield is coated only in your blood is not a testament to you Deserving a Good Life...#...you already deserve a good life regardless of what war you are fighting. and that's hard to swallow...#...because then it feels like your suffering to prove yourself was POINTLESS...#...and you have to swallow the fact that you suffered and you didn't 'have' to#i just want people to start to internalize these ideas or even just think about it in context of themselves#i don't *want* you to suffer for your recovery (though this is a pretty impossible task regardless ime)

Authors making literary choices about their characters that add an edge that could be hard for the audience to sit with is, in fact, a good thing
#and it’s not even that hard because Eowyn never really suffers for the choices she made in the sense that: Edoras is fine#Sauron’s forces from the eastern front are stopped before they hit Rohan#but it could have gone very differently then she would have to be like: glad I had glory on Pelenore but all my people were#massacred and are dead and my home city which is also the capital of our country is sacked#it could have been different!!#we read her actions from knowing the outcome of the books#but the characters in the books don’t know this is going to be the outcome!#writing#lit#drives me nuts#let! Eowyn! have! flaws!#Eowyn#lotr#lord of the rings#I honestly hope she got flack for it#eomer: I'm glad you’re alive and healthy and beat the witch king#Eomer: but never leave a capital city undefended ever again because you’re feeling sad about missing out on the war

rereading animorphs and once in a while marco will say “people dont understand the word ruthless. they think it means ‘mean.’ its not about being mean. its about seeing the bright, clear line that leads from a to b. the line that goes from motive to means. beginning to end. its about seeing that bright, clear line and not caring about anything but the beautiful fact that you can see the solution. not caring about anything else but the perfection of it.” and then repeat it, over and over, "i can see the bright clear line and i know she can too" as he tries over and over again, as he tries to lead a group of his friends to kill his own mother, who is host and slave to the leader of a race of parasitic slugs who have so much genocide and incomprehensible crimes on their hands its impossible to describe in a succinct post
and then they go to school the next day and giggle about cinnabon, play video games, and steal back a doodle saying "cassie ♡ jake" from another students house. bc theyre all like. 13 years old. and the second they stop having to carry the weight of a species and a war on their shoulders, theyre really fucking written like 13 year olds k.a. applegate did such a good job with this series
#youve heard the memes but like im totally serious when i tell u k.a. applegate shoved the horrors of war down the throats of middle#schoolers across the country and yelled THEY WILL TRY AND GLORIFY WAR TO YOU BUT WAR ISNT GLORY ITS UR FRIENDS DESSICATED BODY IN YOUR ARMS#ITS 'rachel moved. her leg frozen to the ground did not'#ITS 'jake watched his guts spill. remorphed nearly drowning and attacked. jake watched his guts spill out again. he remorphed nearly dr-'#ITS rachel muttering 'i am the warrior king' as she sobs into the ground#its cassie doing brain surgery its marco understanding why the chee dont commit violence so he does the violence himself#its cassie trying to stop genocides its tobias eating roadkill because he has to fight a war and to sleep in a bed is to give up the war#its its its ITS A GOOD SERIES#im making animorphs and gregor the overlander required reading for every child whose parents talk about soldiers like theyre a good thing#m text

today, i watch a child on motaz azaiza's instagram stories collecting a human being's fleshy and bloody remains from the road after an israeli bombing and putting them in a plastic bag. the worst part is the kid wasnt even crying or upset, he just looked numb, as if he had done this before. then i log onto tumblr to see people still trying to suggest that it's antisemitic to oppose this, condemn it, or even talk about it. i dont know what to do
#free palestine#this is the end of the world#i want it to be the end of the world because i dont know what else is left to live for#this is a war on children#palestine#gaza#from the river to the sea palestine will be free#glory to the martyrs#long live palestine#long live the resistance#death to israel

idk what i was expecting when going into The Acolyte. i didn't really look into promotional material, just waited to watch the show blind, like i do with most media. Mae and Osha were very compelling characters to me. i loved watching a "twins are not the same person" story where as they grow up, even people with the same DNA can choose different paths. which kind of became ironic with the reveal at the end of the season haha. i'm actually so intrigued by Mae and Osha being the exact same person. i desperately want to know how that happened and why Mother Aniseya created/summoned them. that part of the story makes sense and is great to follow along with for me.
my one gripe remains the same. i still can't quite take Qimir seriously. it stems from my understanding of Star Wars. Sith are never portrayed as morally grey in Star Wars. that's a specific request from George Lucas. the Sith were always evil and selfish while the Jedi were always good and selfless. Lucas always despised "grey Jedi" in the legends canon and didn't consider them true to the major canon. interjecting before someone gets mad, i love morally grey characters! i love people taking Lucas's characters and amplifying their grey qualities! however, as i understood it, no Star Wars media would ever show Sith or Jedi as morally grey (unless they were in the process of changing sides or something) due to it conflicting with the core values of those groups and Lucas's vision for them. so, when the goofball side character was revealed to be the big bad Sith i was ??? because it was to my understanding that Sith don't act like comic relief characters or show mercy. apparently this reveal only blindsided me, because i saw a lot of people who claimed to have picked up on it after his first or second scene. blinded by my understanding of the lore, I wrote Qimir off and was waiting for someone darker, more sinister to show their hand. i don't mind this series being the first to show morally grey Jedi and Sith. i love that Sol was so blinded by his righteousness that he could only see a path forward in which he removed one or both girls from their family and way of life. that's crazy! Sol was either on a path to becoming a Sith or staying light enough that he might have lead a splinter group from the Jedi Order, and either option would have been fascinating to watch. i feel like we haven't learned enough about Qimir yet to have his reveal felt earned. Sol's devastating past actions were earned! we got to know him how he is now and the absolute love he holds for Osha despite it being his biggest weakness. all we know is Qimir now. so i guess that's why the goof to Sith feels so sudden and the morally grey actions don't feel earned. i think Osha joining him was super fast-paced and didn't really feel earned either. i feel like he didn't challenge her beliefs enough. Mae did a better job at that than Qimir did. why didn't she just run off with Mae and not choose either side? she got a sick scene where she bled a kyber crystal and the blade turned red, but that alone doesn't make you a Sith. especially since this seems to be the morally grey Sith/Jedi series. what i need from the second season, if there is one, is way more of a focus on Qimir. i need his morality to have felt earned, just like how Osha's and Sol's were.
also insane how Vernestra just swept everything under the rug. another morally grey Jedi to add to the collection.
#like i'm warming up to him finally#i just think it would have worked better if they showed morally grey sol in all his glory before qimir#but his reveal was just such a shock to me because the series seemed to be building up to some great hidden evil#then boom! he was hiding in plain sight#it's a great switch up in any other series that doesn't have extensive lore#but in Star Wars it's wild to have a Sith being like “I need another drink”#Sol reminds me a lot of Dagan before he turned#we have morally grey Jedi might as well have morally grey Sith too#maybe it wouldn't have felt so weird if Sol was revealed first and then Qimir was revealed?#with was apparently how the show was supposed to play out anyway#Qimir wasn't meant to be revealed as the Sith in this season#so my gripe is that they put his arc on turbo mode and didn't give him enough room to grow#i feel like that's a reasonable gripe?#idk#like i said this has wholly to do with how i understood Star Wars media to depict characters of specific factions#anyone who isn't a Jedi or Sith can be depicted with the full spectrum of grey#the Jedi and Sith used to be untouchable in that regard#and i don't mind the change!!#i just think it would have worked better if they showed morally grey Sol in all his glory before Qimir#the acolyte#the acolyte spoilers

Roque au Fabii | the Poet of Deimos
#I’m going to say something terrible but I absolutely love him#something about the poet being the last flame of a dying age#I know his beliefs were corrupt to the core and he betrayed his closest friends sentencing them to worse than death#but the way Darrow sees him in morning star is kind of the way I do too#pain. admiration. and that secret third thing (desperation to preserve this fading ember of classical glory and poetic grace)#I adore the paragraph where Roque conducts the symphony of war via a hologram of the space battle while beethoven plays#he breaks my heart because he cannot accept that all men are created equal#it was his unyielding faith that Gold was meant to shepherd humanity into the future no matter the cost that led to his downfall#roque au fabii#red rising#golden son#morning star#the poet of deimos#pierce brown#my art
