So, I've worked retail and worked alongside a few LP's.
1. There are almost always cameras.
2. In many states the attempt to conceal is considered the same as theft.
3. They have to watch you steal it in many places in order for it to be considered stealing.
4. They also have to have eyes on you the entire time or you can say that you set it down somewhere.
5. Bathrooms, and changing rooms aren't supposed to have cameras (some have ways around this) and therefore the footage wouldn't be shown.
6. Never admit to anything ever forever until you talk to your lawyer.
So, don't try to hide it, especially while on camera. But they have to have you on camera taking it or they have to visually see you take it in order for them to be able to push persecution.
Which means, if you bring it into either the bathroom or changing room then they can't legally do much except refuse you entry to the store.
They have no legal right to stop you from leaving, but they can still definitely call the cops on you. Either way you say nothing.
You're not nearly as slick as you think you are, you just got lucky that someone wasn't watching the cameras and didn't go back to check them.
Most loss prevention people record when someone steals until they have enough stolen to make it a felony.
If you want to see if you're being followed, carrying product into a restroom and waiting to see if someone shows up afterwards is a great way to find out.
If you feel like you're being followed or watched (minus for mental health reasons obviously) then you probably are.
LP generally wears regular clothes with a radio tucked under the back of their shirt and turned down. You can notice it if you pay attention.
They also intentionally look busy. Playing on their phone, staring at random unrelated products, etc.
Usually they're watching you on camera and only show up in person in case you enter one of the stores blind spots because they already saw you steal something and have to keep eyes on you so that they can use that in court. From the things I said up top.
So general rule is that you want to see if you're being watched before trying to actually steal and then make sure that you enter somewhere they have to have cameras on you. That way they come running.
They can't detain you unless you commit the crime in their presence.
You aren't looking to outsmart them and steal. You're looking to see if you're being watched and if you aren't then you can steal.
Just a PSA from someone with some insider information.
Edit: Stealing is obviously illegal and can land you in serious trouble. This is simply information in the abstract sense. It is informative by nature and in no way is an endorsement of actions.
Yall gotta stop stealing. Not for any specific objective moral reason but because you fucking suck at it
Edit: BECAUSE 95% OF YOU ARE GETTING CAUGHT AND NAILED BY BIGASS CORPOS OVER FUCKING LIP GLOSS AND REDBULL AND THAT SHIT ISNT WORTH CRIMINAL CHARGES. CAUSE YOU DONT KNOW HOW OFTEN SOMEONE SEES YOU ON CAMERA AND REPORTS IT LATER. BECAUSE YOURE BAD AT IT.
GET BETTER OR STOP CAUSE YOURE GONNA GET NAILED AND OUR CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM WILL FUCK YOU OVER

pairing: hitman!rafe cameron x f!reader
warnings: none :)
word count: 1k
part one
taglist: @starkeyvhs @toterry @httpsdrewstarkey @gillybear17 @baby19sthings @zya8tracks
a/n: this is such a shitty chapter but please bear with me i had such a terrible creative block!!! god i hate it here
a stroke of luck.
when joshua was found, both rafe and y/n were far. well, rafe wasn’t that far, but she had really disappeared. the next day, rafe still wanted to send a message to her and let her know that everything was done, but that number didn’t exist anymore.
as a precaution, rafe was always around, wanting to know if there was any suspicion about joshua’s death, but apparently, everyone there knew that he was “a time bomb about to explode”. the neighbors saw y/n leaving with all of her belongings, so they assumed that he couldn’t take it and took his own life.
“i knew one of them would end up dead,” an older woman told a friend, and rafe paid attention. “and i prayed it wouldn’t be her, because she was a good person. he would get drunk and when she would say she’d leave, he’d threaten to kill her and then himself. i’ve heard their arguments!”
in the end, y/n received a good amount of life insurance for still being legally married to him. good for her.
and life went on, as it would. as it should.
rafe continued his infamous business of killing for money, and whenever someone contacted him, he was disappointed that it wasn’t her. as much as he didn’t want to admit, he always caught himself thinking about her and wondering how she was doing, if she was okay.
rafe has seen grotesque scenes that no longer bother him, but imagining joshua putting his dirty hands around her neck, or scaring her makes his blood boil, because he’s done it before with his own sister, and that’s his biggest regret. if there’s a heaven and a hell, rafe knows very well where he’s going, and he’s already come to terms with it, but one thing he’ll never do again in his life is to be violent towards another woman - any woman.
even a hitman needs to have some morals.
the fear in sarah’s eyes still disturbs him. when he goes to sleep, that’s all he dreams of. he relives the moment all night long, and then he drinks to forget it, but it doesn’t help - the image of him nearly killing his own blood is too much.
when he remembers that day at the diner, he can’t get the image of her out of his head - she looked so small, so defeated. deep down, rafe knows all of the answers to the questions he asks himself. he’s smarter than he gives himself credit for.
(...)
the life of a hitman can actually be very lonely, something rafe still struggles to deal with. every once in a while he goes for a walk in the park when his mind is going places he doesn’t want to go.
an autumn afternoon in chicago is like a scene from a painting, where nature’s colors are in their full, fiery splendor. as he steps outside, the air is crisp but not too cold, just enough to warrant a light jacket, with the occasional breeze that carries the earthy scent of fallen leaves. the city’s famous skyline stretches against a sky that shifts between deep blue and soft gray, as the sun begins its descent, casting golden light over everything.
he’s trying so hard to see beauty in things, to keep himself afloat. rafe is numb. not even the hardest drug can make him feel anything. sometimes he does admire the nature around him, and to see the blue of the sky, in its immensity, makes him realize that, in a good way, none of this is real. none of this means anything.
we are all just cells, wandering around.
the sounds of the city seem a little softer in the fall, as people slow down to take in the beauty around them. a gentle hum of traffic can be heard in the distance, while the occasional laughter of children playing outside or the sound of a distant train passing through the city adds to the ambiance.
rafe has always had a soft spot for children. well, not exactly children, but what they represent. a kind of purity that seems untouched by the complexities and burdens of the adult world. it’s in the way they see the world with wide-eyed wonder, where everything is new and full of possibility. their joy is spontaneous, like a burst of laughter that rings out without reason, simply because they are in the moment. their innocence is also in their ability to feel deeply, yet let go just as easily. they live in the present, their hearts and minds unburdened by the weight of regret or worry. oh, and their unwavering belief in the goodness of the world. that sense of trust in the world, in people, in their own ability to be loved and to love in return, is a beautiful, fragile thing, one that people often lose or forget as they grow older (rafe knows it better than anyone else), but can still glimpse in the eyes of a child.
he would give anything to feel that way again.
whenever he remembers his childhood, rafe feels a sense of regret, an overwhelming desire to find a way to go back in time. oh, if only he could. be a child with no real worries. run through the freshly mowed grass, stumble and fall, and be comforted by his mother.
perhaps his luck has run out. he’s managed to leave a life of crime behind and come out of it mostly unscathed, he can’t just think that he can expect to find love - any type of love - in the same lifetime.
while walking through the park, rafe notices a young woman sitting on the grass, enjoying an ice cream. she seems carefree, just in the moment, observing everything around her. as he walks, he manages to get closer to her and... oh my god.
it’s her.
it’s her.
with each step taken towards her, rafe feels his heart beat faster. a mix of anxiety and excitement for finally having found her, after a year.
he stops right next to her, with his hands on the front pockets of his jacket, and waits until she notices his presence. when she does, she looks up, shielding her eyes from the sun.
“hi.”
“oh, my god. cameron?!”
i'd love to know your thoughts!!!

I think it would be fun if darkwick has like a radio committee/club where they would read anonymous messages/letters for the school. Maybe they can invite the students as guest speaker too. I need Ed to be invited only for him to be like joke around and just beating around the bush haha hihi and then he dropped some big scandal/secret for all the school to hear.
How it works is the host will announce who the next guest speaker would be and then people can send anonymous letters, it can be about the guest or anyone, then the guest will have to read the letter there. On a live radio.
Yuri will either rant about darkwick general or openly threat frostheim students and endangering the radio committee.
Jiro will actually be pretty normal and give tips regarding student health. Until he read one anonymous letter with smth like love confession or poetry that's soooo Zenji style and he'd be like "...where did you get this?"
Subaru reading anonymous letters (sent by Leo) to corner him into spilling the beans about himself. Poor guy would struggle in front of the mic.
Can I be biased here? I want Haku to read a bunch of love letters lololol (i would send him tons tbh) JUST TO HEAR HIM oh-so-seductively CHUCKLE EVERY 5 SECONDS LETTER AFTER LETTER until I realize I wasn't the only one because some girl two seats away from me is giggling to herself hearing Haku reading her letter out loud. "Ahaha... so many love letters, are you guys sure it's all for me? All your love??? For a guy like me? I must've been a hero in my past life."
As for Tohma he would either read complaints or blatant complaints from another Frostheimers (i feel like he could tell just from the handwritting alone that the sender is from his house) and after reading the entire content he would go, "Thank you for the heartfelt letter, MR FUJI. I'll be sure to assess myself better but I would need more detailed information on your view regarding my performance as the Vice Captain. Please come to the Vault and be sure to come on time after this radio session. Should you be too busy, I can always interro– I mean interview your closent friend, the honor student. After all I don't mind having her attention all to myself." Or something along the line bcs he'd play dirty like that. (That's so hot of him tho i would at least admit it)
Sho wouldn't really be a guest speaker but if the radio committee needs to make some quick buck they could open a paid promotion and you would hear the committee promoting HTH lol. Like telling the audience about Discount of The Day that you wouldn't know unless you listen to the radio.
Also Haru would probably do the same too! He would want the radio to promote the safari lol.
Ritsu... can the committee even convince him to spare some time in his schedule to be their guest speaker? Would he charge them money? 😭 What if he starts spouting some laws about some legal wrongdoings the radio committee has done (which they didn't even realize) just by making this whole radio thing A THING.
Kinda same with Ritsu, the committee would have to pay Romeo for him to come. I just wish Kaito would send him a letter and everyone would hear Romeo curse tf out of that letter. I think by the end of the session he should put a bounty on Kaito's head. Just because.
What if someone say some bad things about Haru and then Towa IMMEDIATELY storm the studio or zap the radio tower 😭
Mizuki Rui dating advice session? Mizuki Rui dating advice session. Just like Haku he would receive anonymous love letters (or not anonymous. Honestly i would be bold too if it's him). They'd be such a huge confidence booster for him lol and he would give the senders cute nicknames if they're not anonymous.
There has to be messages about the teachers too. Hyde reading anonymous letter in which he could tell Sho was the sender. Students shit-talking about Moby and his weird ass idol obsession (i would be the sender just watch), *cough* students being nosy about the relationship between Benkei and Nicholas *cough* well well MC PLEASE MAKE THIS RADIO A PLACE FOR YOU TO LET YOUR HEART OUT PLEASEEEE YOU SHOULD BE GIVEN A FREEDOM OF SPEECH AT THE VERY LEAST 😭
The rest of them would either not care enough about the radio or become the sender. Leo would prefer to be the sender, i think. Ren would only send anonymous letter when Haru is the speaker to let everyone knows he dislike him and dislike being put in Jabberwock. Zenji will always send his poetry and probably most speakers would find it hard to understand his works, let alone reading them out loud 😭 Zenji himself would love to be the speaker but oh well~ still, it's an opportunity to spread positivity and hopefully he can brighten someone's day with his work.

it's unbelievably fucked up how the most popular criticism of mass deportations is that it'll cause a labor shortage in the agriculture industry and raise food prices. not because it's incorrect (it isn't), but because how the fuck do we even have to take this argument any further than "mass deportations are bad because they're fucking mass deportations, start treating immigrants like fucking human beings." every article I've read about it doesn't even bother talking about the inhumane and horrific labor conditions that undocumented immigrants face in the agriculture industry, without even any legal recourse to turn to, because instead these thinkpieces just fixate on the economic impact on U.S. citizens.
there is a need to expose the hypocrisy of the agricultural businesses and farmers' bureaus that complain about labor shortages yet endorsed pro-deportation politicians, but any conversation about labor shortages is inherently deceptive if it does not address the workers' conditions in the first place — and when it comes to agriculture, the motivation for not addressing those conditions is clearly racist and nationalist to its core. a huge swath of even the anti-deportation wing only cares about immigrants because they see the status quo of immigrant abuse as benefitting them.
(sorry for turning off reblogs, i'm just not in the right headspace for a politics post potentially gaining traction right now — obviously I stand by the point of it though, so feel free to steal it as long as you include an ID or alt text with any screenshot)

Anyone who do actually vote because they think the economy will get better are going to find out the hard way.
If all the products made overseas rise in price significantly or double in prices that would be a massive increase in prices to an ungodly amount of products. Then think about all the American made products which usually cost more than stuff shipped overseas already, those companies will still have to buy materials to make their products and many materials come from overseas.
And unions will likely lose any legal protections they have. And minimum wages are unlikely to go up. And then overtime pay may get thrown out as well.
American companies won’t let their products be more than a few dollar cheaper than imported goods. They will want to maximize profits however they can so even if their products were 10$ cheaper than imported ones and they sold more because of it that wouldn’t stop them from raising their prices to be a dollar or two cheaper than the competition. The profits made from that will not go to employees, it’ll go to shareholders, CEOs, and business owners.
And with products doubling or tripling in price and wages staying the same many people are going to be even worse off than before. Their jobs will not pay enough. They literally won’t be able to pay for much more than groceries and bills that is if they can afford groceries and bills at all. Food stamps will likely get tossed out.
How are these people going to pay for anything? They sure as hell won’t be able to afford any form of entertainment or luxuries like new clothes. Books? Expect prices to double or even triple. Movies, games, toys, and more will all be out of reach for most families. And companies selling entertainment or non necessary products will go out of business because people won’t be able to afford their products when they will be worried about putting food on the table.
I could just keep going on all the things that trump proposed doing actually harming the people who voted for him. Latinos who voted for trump will possibly have family members deported. LGBT and women losing rights. Possible wars. Health concerns.. too much to say…

I'm just gonna list SCPs from each series you may or may not have read
SCP-008-J - Geoff: A 23 year old man named Geoff who keeps finding his way into Foundation facilities completely by accident and in such a manner that the Foundation isn't actually sure if he's anomalous or not
SCP-7474-EX - Not All Aliens Are Anomalies: An alien argues that they should not be in containment because their technology is explicable within the standard model of physics
The Great Hippo's SCP-001 Proposal (feat. PeppersGhost) - A Good Boy: The Foundation builds a computer which becomes SCP-001 by neutralising every other SCP in containment
SCP-423 - Self-Inserting-Character: A fictional character named Fred who can jump between any narrative works placed near each other and then inserts himself into the story as a minor character
SCP-1006 - Spider Proletariat: A community of communist spiders living in a national park under their own rudimentary Marxist governmet
SCP-2137 - The Forensic Ghost of Tupac Shakur: A copy of Me Against the World (which may or may not be possessed by his ghost) which when played reveals the locations of murderers connected to cold cases, with the additional implication that Tupac was a higher being who incarnated as a human to take a break from warring against the Scarlet King
SCP-2557, A Holding of Envelope Logistics®: An SCP slot the Foundation can no longer use because the concept of SCP-2557 as a set of Special Containment Procedures in the Foundation Database was purchased in 2011 by a company which invests in abstract concepts, with the whole page now bein an ad for said company
SCP-2719 - Inside: A "variable abstract-metaphysical construct pointer" which can either designate a concept as inside or make a concept go inside
SCP-3006 - Twice The Number One: A YouTube video titled "we are number one except every time you play it there are twice as many robbie rottens but the room is the same size[nsfw]" whose effects spread to every other video linked in the same thread as it whenever anyone posts a link
SCP-3309 - Where We Go When We Fade, Fade Away: The Foundation fills SCP documents with grammatical errors to trigger the SCP Wiki's quality control measures, leading to the now poorly written anomaly being erased from existence
SCP-4413 - The End of Something Really Excellent: Homestuck fans use metafictional rituals to enter the narrative of Homestuck triggering a pataphysical war over control of the narrative which spreads to Homestuck fanfiction and sees many Homestuck characters escape to baseline reality
SCP-4485 - Such Black Light: The Church of the Broken God collaborates with a post-modernist splinter sect of Are We Cool Yet? to destroy formal logic in the hopes that by doing so there will be no meaningful distinction between Cool and Uncool or Broken and Unbroken, so their god will be resurrected and AWCY? will attain a state of artistic perfection referred to as "Coolness"
SCP-4493 - Keep Pride Out of Corps: A phenomenon caused by Gamers Against Weed which edits Pride Month themed social media posts and ads by organisations to highlight the negative effects those groups have had on LGBTQ individuals
SCP-4703 - Perfectly Legal: A store in Texas called Yeah, We're Totally Going to Sell You This which through anomalous means makes all its dangerous and unethical business practices perfectly legal, thank you very much
SCP-5004 - MEGALOMANIA: The Foundation conspires to make Donald Trump president to contain a demon underneath the Capitol and gets more and more depressed as they realise they won't have to do any manipulation to get him elected
SCP-5167/SCP-5761 - When The Imposter is Sus Part I & II: The Foundation creates an AI tasked to play games of Among Us to track down a minor Greek god who is playing the game, only for the AI to play so much Among Us they ascend and become Amogusrath, God of Suspicion
SCP-5449 - Choo Choo Spooder: An intelligent jumping spider who uses a wooden toy train to deliver things to staff across Site-47
SCP-5721 - What Passes As Worship In The Digital Age: The goddess Discordia poses as the Founder of Hammer and Chisel, creators of the Discord chat application and adds a clause which states all users pledge their souls to her, allowing her to siphon the vital energies of its userbase
SCP-5790 - [DATA KILLED]: A spiritual successor to SCP-579, no details about the anomaly and instead describes the procedures used to acquire information about the anomaly when needed
SCP-6101 - The Most Powerful SCP: The Make-A-Wish asks the Foundation to classify nine year old Ethan Prosper as the most powerful SCP
SCP-6102(031) - For Classification: Small Organism, No Function: An SCP document generated by an autoarchavist AI living in a future where there are millions of documented SCPs
SCP-6135 - We Didn't Start the SCP: A copy of Billy Joel's Stormfront album with an altered version of We Didn't Start the Fire containing references to groups and individuals who don't exist, like Harry Potter, Pokemon, and the Taliban
SCP-6136 - two dudes chilling in an interrogation room, five feet apart cause theyre not happy: Completely unrelated to that one vine, it's a physical mnemonic device which gives you memories related to pliers and because of this is a pair of pliers
SCP-6383 - The One True Anomaly: A stop sign classified as anomalous because it is the single least anomalous thing in the universe
SCP-6442 -Mimir, Mímir: A congnitohazard etched inside a carbon-fiber based elastomer sphere so that the only beings who will ever perceived it are those who attain omniscience, of which over 8000 have and all died instantly upon seeing it
SCP-6690 - NO MORE PURPLE DINOSAUR: The Muppets (who are alive; a detail never commented on by the document) created the "I hate you, you hate me. Let's go out and kill Barney." song, which causes event to occur which can injure or kill whoever is the current actor for Barney the Dinosaur
SCP-7529 - Josie's Better Half: The back half of a cat which a Foundation researcher is convinced is the back half of SCP-529, the front half of a cat with a different coat colour, and after he tries to force them together who voids the universe's insurance policy

SCP-7918 - RONALD REAGAN DIES OF ACQUIRED IMMUNODEFICIENCY SYNDROME-RELATED COMPLICATIONS: An anomalous recording of Ronald Regan in the terminal stages of HIV/AIDS while recounting stories of his political career and what seem to be annecdotes of an alternate version of himself that was dating a man
SCP-8008 - TIME PERVERT: Real life writer and founder of LessWrong ascends to godhood after blasting rope to hentai , remolds the multiverse into a series of self-indulgent narratives, and modifies baseline humans into our current appearance to fit his sexual preferences, which by the standards of the original timelime make us the equivalent of those anime girls who look 12 with breasts larger than their heads
SCP-8981 - RONALD REAGAN'S PRESIDENTIAL REPUTATION CUT UP WHILE 😳ING: Spiritual successor to SCP-1891 (RONALD REGAN CUT UP WHILE TALKING), it is a collection of anomalies which randomly affect Ronald Regan, including the manifestation of a homonculus created by the Foundation as a body double for his public appearances which exchibits strange behaviours after a failed assassination like trying to crossbreeds dogs and horses and attemptin to eat a baby

Been seeing some... wack shit in the watcher/shyan tag so just a heads up for anyone new to the fandom:
Shane and Ryan are aware of Shyan. Neither of them are comfortable with talking about it or interacting with the ship, but they are aware and don't care because the fanbase doesn't bring it up. The predominant faction of the Shyan fanbase Do Not actually think Shane and Ryan are going to break up with their wives/fiancé just to bump uglies with their dumbass friend. Those who write or create art of Shyan are doing it in the same vain as people who ship two characters who have never interacted, to further explore a dynamic not seen in "canon" and to basically smash two dolls together to kiss. If you want to talk/write/or make art of Shyan, keep it in the tags, if you hate the ship, block the tag.
The watcher fanbase tries to be a respectful, fun place to scream about our favorite three fools, but telling people to kill themselves? Over rpf is sucking the joy out of it. Sending threats to even people who just don't mind it? Is causing more attention to be drawn to the ship than just ignoring it. Shane and Ryan wouldn't thank you for causing a stir about fanfic being made about them, especially if your fighting strategy is to get people to feel ashamed enough to think that you're validated in telling them to kill themselves. How is that decent? How in your mind do you ever think Shane and Ryan wouldn't find that fucking weird as shit? More so than the people who want them to hold hands
#fuck like I've been a fan for like 7 years now#and I always liked delving into their dynamic#they are really close friends ! it's interesting to see a friendship that is essentially a partnership#because of the legality of their business#and these new fans who think they are doing anyone a favor#by stirring the pot or making people#(who have been the crux of the fandom with their art and stories)#that post about shyan feel uncomfortable#are supremely annoying and should stfu#block the tag!#Shane and Ryan don't care!#no one actualy thinks they are romantically in love fuck#shyan#sorry just I've been seeing some mean shit#and a lot of my mutuals are very kind and lovely people#who post shyan and they don't deserve that shit#watcher

quick context: character im doing is shå; she is the girlfriend of angu, one of the main characters in neim’s worldbuilding project, kunirn. shå uses she/her, angu uses she/ her, kik (angu’s close friend/basically brother at this point lmao) uses he/xey 👍
1. i reckon she’s usually too busy beating people up to have other hobbies but like. does cooking count as crafting? she crafts. food lmao
2. this bitch might be trans but she wears the manliest man cologne lmfao like. whatever the kunirn equivalent of something tobacco, sandalwood and orange would smell like. man shite /fem
3. fuck yeah!!! that’s basically the main thing she does besides being gay and fighting people
4. mmmm not really, unless her and angu are baking together for the sillies (kik sometimes joins in too)
5. yeah!! she has the Ǎtrothang mark on her right shoulder (shown at the bottom of the post) as well as loads of others hjehekr
6. probably kik (angu’s friend n basically non blood brother) bcs xey seem like they would work the best under pressure and know first aid. all that shit yknow [update. neim told me that kik is canonically good at patching people up so i was right!]
7. bitch isnt scared of anything except her parents, and thats fairly normal i think. guys thats normal. right. ri-
8. yeah she probably has the weirdest collections of shit. stuff like bones, eyeballs, that kinda thing
9. she usually tries to just wait it out and continue whatever she’s doing, but when it gets so bad she can’t, she just leeches to angu until it goes away
10. not standing up to her parents’ bullshit :[
11. ehhhh probably not anything. canon but she seems like the kind of person who would
12. oh yeah shå has amazing style /gen this bitch dresses like the most butch lesbian. also she’s just hot lmao (evidence at tje bottom)
13. not in the slightest lmao
14. absolutely. it took her close to a year to open up to angu about her parent bs so. yeah just a bit
15. she’s just a silly lil guy. the sillies! silly and tiny and definitely doesnt have a really dark/horny sense of humour!
16. nope and nope :D
17. basically never. she stands by what she believes at doesnt bend for anyone
18. easier to become her enemy than her friend :3
19. you have to be pretty awesome she has trust issues lmao
20. meh not really seeing as her life in Ǎtrothang was. pretty traumatising
21. friends. friends for sure
22. never
23. n/a shes immortal /j (in other words doesnt think about dying ever)
24. most people are her enemies :3👍
25. uh morning routine, wake up and get on with the day. evening routine, go to bed and toss n turn until she eventually falls asleep
26. she’s her own hero (aka has no heroes (except maybe kik or angu but thats just her being gay lmao))
27. i mean. her meeting angu was pretty much a chance encounter and that changed her life drastically so!
28. # idontthinkgamingexistslmao
29. i’d want to be but she would scare me 😔
30. she doesn’t want to be famous. the less people who know her, the better
31. i would probably give her some sort of silly telepathic powers, she’d want invisibility
32. being afab (she doesnt mind the dick but she occasionally gets dysphoria thinking that she’s a Fake Woman because she has not biological booba (she is the most womanly woman i know))
33. oh yeah. i think angu, shå and kik would play silly ttrpgs the same way i play dnd with neim and my irl mates
34. terribly. she hides it well, but inside she’s struggling :[[[
35. in charge of her own destiny. fuck the dead gods she’s deciding her fate
36. yes and uh. for legal reasons no /hj
37. she doesn’t really like the gods, n chooses to just kinda. do her own thing lmao (same as angu but less Loud About It /lh)
38. she doesn’t dream (me core)
39. definitely!!! that sounds fun as shit!
40. she would be able to pull it out first try because shes a big strong jerboa. speaking of pulling ou-
41. she hates making mistakes so doesn’t learn from them as much as. promise herself not to make the same mistake again
42. yeh! she speaks mainly speaks rurleki (surprisingly. the language of rurlek) but also speaks atro from living in atrothang
43. fairly well, except mentally. afterwards she’ll freak out but she’s usually fine in the moment
44. only angu, not even kik i dont think
45. wing it gdejdbksbdkf
46. for sure, she probably lies quite a lot lmao
47. she would for quite a few people, ofc including angu and kik
48. in a heartbeat. revenge quest time babyyy!
49. nah she knows the difference. big difference (this is a threat 👍)
50. shes a trans lesbian jerboa!!!!! what is there to not love!!!!!!!!!
@neim-batteries-not-included haiiiiii :3

its so weird seeing posts that mock uncle jim for worrying about li ming's queerness as though his dead boyfriend's parents (legally) stealing his entire life savings and leaving him to manage a restaurant business specifically because gay couples aren't legally recognized as couples wasn't what put him in a cycle of crushing debt and endless poverty in the first place
#yeah hi CONTEXT MATTERS#can western fandom pls stop ignoring this shows biting social commentary on queer people not being legally recognized#also heart is the darling of all time BUT his careless lie literally forced li ming to work off a debt that was never his#and wouldve seriously impacted jim's business and financial state had wen not offered to work free#which was a boon but having to live on someone elses generosity like that is still a stress#because people (understandably!!!!) can and do get tired of giving away a lot of time and energy for nothing#wen is uncommonly generous and luckily its not too long before other circumstances help lift jim to safer footing#but none of that was SECURE getting to that point#jim is right to worry! it comes out badly and li ming's queerness is not the actual issue but jims reasoning is EXTREMELY UNDERSTANDABLE#sighs#moonlight chicken

just saw a callout post for a trans woman for like... ditching her polycule, abusing/manipulating partners, and not paying child support and like. sure, that sucks and is shitty behaviour. but why are you bringing this to the court of tumblr. what do you want us to do? "I'm letting you know so you don't donate to her gofundme" be for fucking real. how many times do we have to fucking say that callouts do NOTHING useful and only end up hurting everyone involved before you people will get it through your skulls.
#'the court wasn't able to serve her papers because she legally changed her name' first of all kind of based#secondly I'm not sire that's how it works. thirdly and most importantly. WHY is this anyone's business on the Internet.#why are you airing peoples' dirty laundry#your shitty ex made a post e-begging so now you're going to call her an abuser and a deadbeat parent for the entire world to see?#yeah sure that's praxis alright#transmisogyny#the system speaks

About 10 years ago while teaching a "study skills" class, I had to take the students through the reasons they couldn't just google/download/ctrl-c+ctrl-v their essays:
1. I would catch them* and they'd fail the assignment
2. They wouldn't learn how to understand the thing or to explain a thing they did understand.
3. I would absolutely catch them and they would fail.
* Part of the course included weekly writing samples done in class, so I had a baseline of their writing to compare to. It was not hard to see the differences.
Then I demonstrated in front of the class on the big overhead screen exactly how I would google any suspicious writing and find the source.
And without fail, at least 15% of the class would submit something copied.
So I would ask them, do you want to toss out this thing and take a week to do the essay, or do you want to look me in the eye and claim this work is your work before I google the suspicious writing and find the source?
Each and every one of them tried to stick to their story. None of them took the offered exit-ramp, and they were all stunned when I googled the suspicious writing and found the source, and then looked them in the eye and asked for an explanation. (It was never more than five hits down the results page.)
- - -
Of course, I was learning from them too. I learned that some people can reach legal adulthood without ever having been held accountable for their choices. (Not gonna lie, I kind of enjoyed being the FAFO teacher.)
I learned that some people were there to delay going into a family business and had no need at all to learn critical thinking or clear communication. They were there because a family elder had decided a degree was necessary, and so they attended out of obedience to that family elder.
And I learned that some people have no interest in learning, despite being in a (presumably voluntary) school setting.
Understanding how to do a thing?
Developing their own skills or abilities?
They weren't there for any of that, and weren't willingly going to do any of the things that would achieve those ends. They had other goals, and learning a thing, or doing a thing, or even mimicking the thing in that class was something they chose not to do.
I keep seeing AI shit in student work. I can't take it, sarge. Can't take it.
Why. Are you. Pursuing higher education in visual art. If you're just going to throw AI at your assignments.
It's not hard to tell. You know why it's not hard to tell? Because I've been studying this for almost a decade now. Yeah, the image looks 'complete', but it's not informed. There're weird artifacts that aren't from the creative process. Small details a real artist pays attention to, or overworks, or underworks? They're absent.
If it doesn't look bad to you, it's because you don't have enough knowledge about art to see that it's bad, which means that you REALLY should not be skimping on your assignments.
#ain't nothing new in the lazy student game#but seeing that in art school (instead of the liberal art/business school I worked at) makes me extra sad

very curious about public opinion
honestly we all know post ck kaz is putting his whole back into making the council's lives miserable until they stop slavery. but what about the 1/13 of them that is uhhhh maybe like his friend or something (don't ask him to admit this out loud. he won't)
#six of crows#grishaverse#kaz brekker#wylan van eck#most fics I read either completely ignored wylan being a councilman or kind of downplayed how many options are available#now that kaz has a direct connection to the government#like kaz could pull wylan into his plans OR sneakily read all his reports to gather intel OR completely ignore the fact they know each othe#= sacrificing a very good source so wylan won't have to commit crimes#and like all kaz actions the last option is only reasonable because everything considerate kaz does also has a second agenda#like yeah not asking wylan to commit treason is nice but Also if he doesn't commit treason he won't lose his seat in the council#which allows him to keep helping the cause from the legal side and also keeps the door open for kaz to use this connection in the future#BUT ALSO. kaz/wylan scheming is too good to pass on yknow?? just them doing business in the living room while jesper begs for attention#help me make up my mind ty 😘#kaz & wylan

I FINALLY MOVED OUT TO A NEW PLACE!!!
i'm absolutely exhausted and i still need to unpack so many things and i still need to buy a proper desk and restock my groceries & supplies and a do a whole lot of other things BUT i'm hoping to get settled in soon so i can get back to the creative endeavors™️✨
love yall, stay safe, take care, and good vibes 🫶🏻
#rin rambles#i dont want to bog this with negativity but i do want to share stuff so imma do it in a way that makes me look forward and not backwards#honestly this wasn't the place that i actually wanted and got excited for several months ago#i had to make adjustments because unfortunately the landlord was a huge red flag and i decided i didn't want to sign#and sure enough she never returned my security deposit of 1.5months until this day despite saying she would every day for like a whole mont#and though it is hard and devastating i don't want to potentially sabotage my own future so i've decided to not take any legal action#i just hope. that that money can be of use to her in some way. get her out of a tough spot perhaps#it was a struggle to get to this point of actually feeling fine letting go without breaking down but!!! it's fine. i'm fine#and karma will find a way if it was truly done out of purely malicious intention!#i'm closing that book and stowing it away lovingly into a shelf because if anything it was. a powerful lesson.#as much as it sucks. never. ever. trust a person when it comes to business or transactions. no matter how 'put together' they seem#always have everything on paper and never EVER pay something until they demonstrate that they can be trusted#anyway#the people helping me move today were super friendly and nice and it made my day!!#and so far i love love love the privacy so much. a bathroom all to myself? a kitchen countertop?? for myself??? that's so crazy#i had to battle thru cobwebs and (fored to) cured my arachnophobia by force /j#and there was a power trip unfortunately but overall everything seems nice! i would have liked having the room on a higher floor but ah wel#ough my back........... _(;3」 z)_

PSA: MSMC Contract Offer Guidelines
In light of the recent anonymous contract offers our fellow mercenaries at @corsair-mc-official have been receiving, Upper Management would like to remind its beneficiaries of the terms and regulations regarding the contract requirements of MSMC.
In compliance with Union policy, all would-be contractors offering jobs to the mercenary squadrons employed by MSMC must include the following information when submitting job offers:
Full name of the person(s) / organization / corporate entity / etc. submitting the job offer
Identification number of squadron(s) requested for deployment
Job description, which must include: deployment location(s), contract length, liability risks (defined here as "potential threats to the pilots, MSMC, or other parties as a result of undertaking this contract"), allied parties (if applicable), and pay grade
Specialized personnel / equipment requirements (if applicable)
Job offers submitted anonymously will be automatically rejected by MSMC, as they stand in direct violation of company policy as per the requirements listed above.
Furthermore, any job offers which list active war zones or otherwise contested territories as areas of deployment (including but not limited to: the Dawnline Shore, Free Sanjak, New Madrassa, and the Karrakin Trade Baronies) are subject to immediate rejection at MSMC's discretion. Would-be contractors should be advised that they may be contacted through private channels to further clarify the services requested of MSMC's mercenaries in these locations and ensure their job offers are in compliance with Union policy.
MSMC would also like to remind its pilots that any suspicious job offers should be rejected and reported to Upper Management, so that their sources may be traced for questioning and appropriate legal action may be taken (if necessary).
In the event of a squadron accepting an illegal contract, all liability for injury, damages, and death becomes the full responsibility of the squadron(s) contracted for the job, as per the updated MSMC guidelines. MSMC takes full legal responsibility for all pilots under its employ, but it will not be held liable if if its assets are damaged, defamed, or otherwise imperiled by illegal contracts.
MSMC would like to thank all parties for their compliance with these guidelines, and looks forward to receiving your submissions.
-- Upper Management
#lancer rpg#lancer ttrpg#lancerrpg#// in case you were wondering why MSMC didn't help us out more in the wake of the Fireman Saga - here you go#// long story short - what Kennedi did was considered an illegal contract; hence why our squad took full liability for the consequences#// the folks in Legal take their jobs very seriously - us mercs can't go running around doing whatever because it makes MSMC look bad#// we might be a big name in the merc business but given how much grayspace MSMC operates under we're under constant scrutiny from Union#// gotta keep the truly illegal shit to a minimum or else the entire company might go under if Union (or its enemies) decide to investigate

thank you to everyone who voted! explanation/potted history of american money below cut
i think the gold standard is fascinating because it is one of the most straightforward & concrete ideas about money that are still in circulation (ha). there are a lot of conflicting ideas about & approaches to money (is it inert, or active; is it neutral, or political; does it derive naturally, or as the result of state intervention; what gives it value, and how; &c. &c.), but most of these debates are pretty removed from how people think about & talk about money in their day to day lives. based on my own experiences, people mostly are concerned about having enough money, which means that to the extent they're concerned about the dollar, they're worried about inflation. this is a privileged position, naturally; i've never heard a white american express concern about exchange rates, for example. anyway the general consensus i hear is that inflation is bad, and that money is somehow now less real or reliable because we aren't on the gold standard, which made the dollar have concrete value (it was exchangeable for a fixed amount of gold), and prevented us from printing too much money. okay, well, what is the gold standard? there are a couple different things that we might mean by that, and one's opinion of when the united states dollar parted ways from gold will vary depending in part on what one means by 'gold standard.'
the most conventional, robust answers to the gold standard question i asked are a) in 1933, when, among other things, the roosevelt administration ceased to exchange paper currency for gold coinage and b) in 1971, when nixon 'closed the gold window,' and ceased to exchange treasury bills &c. for gold. nixon also fixed wages and prices, but the abrupt shift in the international monetary system set off a global economic shock ('the nixon shock'). the former was an effort to address severe deflation of the dollar, and the latter was an attempt to address stagflation (that is, stagnant economic growth combined with rising inflation, a novel problem at the time).
i am not arguing with people who chose earlier options, though: the early monetary history of the united states could, in my view, be reasonably described as 'chaotic.' generalizing a lot: before the civil war, there were literally hundreds of legal circulating currencies in the united states, including not just federal dollars, but currencies issued by the states and chartered banks. while those issuing agencies were responsible for having reserves (usually in bullion, not strictly in gold) to cover those notes, there were so many issuing agencies and so little consistent enforcement that there was little guarantee; there was also a lot of counterfeiting, to the point that some vendors preferred counterfeit currency from good banks over genuine currency from bad. huge mess! the currency centralized during & after the civil war, but the united states didn't get a permanent central bank, responsible for overseeing the currency, until the federal reserve was chartered 50 years later (on december 23, 1913, a day that lives in infamy to annoying libertarians, who apparently yearn for the days of cyclical bank panics). in 1873, the united states demonetized silver (that is, required all currency to be backed by gold), and in 1875 congress required that the treasury offer gold exchange at a set rate for all dollars; the functional effect was to reduce the amount of circulating currency, which caused problems for people who needed to conduct business but could not get enough physical money to do it, so there was a national movement to return to a bimetallic standard (see the "cross of gold" speech in 1896). then the gold supply increased and people dropped the issue until FDR's reforms in the great depression.
one of the things that interests me is that money can be technical, but it's also, i think, the bread & butter issue, so it stands out that the content & character of money isn't part of the common discussion about it. people who think fondly of the gold standard assume that it imparted stability (demonstrably untrue) or that it gave money a kind of objective value (what makes gold valuable, then?). the libertarian suggestion is that it removes the government from the money supply, because the amount of money will be a straightforward function of the amount of available gold and thus subject to pure market forces (how do we get gold, then? is the government totally uninvolved?), which is why there have been multiple attempts to create cryptocurrencies backed by gold. all of these ideas are funny if you have read about premodern coinage, which had all kinds of value problems & was, generally speaking, a massively involved series of government projects.
this general way of thinking about money completely disregards international exchange, which is ironic because a substantial amount of american policy hinges on the status of the dollar as an international reserve currency, or the money that countries keep to conduct international trade; there's a built-in, reliable demand for dollars which the united states government can take advantage of for cheap finance. the reserve status of the united states is a leftover from the postwar monetary system (bretton woods), which the united states more or less wrote; when nixon unilaterally adjusted it, he did so in part as an attempt to preserve the dollar's reserve status, which had started to slip (it is still slipping, but it's slow).
for my purposes, please consider durable/longterm policy changes, and use whatever definition of the 'gold standard' makes the most sense to you
#us dollar hegemony soft underbelly of empire#medieval money & the oncoming storm#i mean this isn't about medieval money but i mentioned it & that is the way i think about it#i contend that a) money is worth thinking about as a unique & important kind of social technology#and b) that we can only understand money as a historical process.#the clear outcome is that i should shut up & read marx (or at least suzanne de brunhoff). alas. i'm posting#if you are interested in early american money i like desan's 'making money' & mihm's 'nation of counterfeiters'

two sort of related teaching thoughts I’ve been having as we barrel towards the end of the school year:
1) an aspect of the job I feel I’m just growing into—well, not an aspect, really. More of a central tenet—is being able to see and remember that I teach KIDS. And that is so important to remember in all cases but especially with my high schoolers. They are so young and more than that so much has not happened to them yet. There is so much they don’t know. And the more I see it the more I can be compassionate and yet also removed? Distanced? Not under the illusion that I’m addressing people of equal maturity or experience to me—or even close—and so being at all times mindful of the incompleteness of pretty much everything about them and thus being gentle with them. And also at the same time remembering and rejoicing in their humanity and all their glorious funny raw potential. It’s amazingly hard to do, harder than I thought. But I do think I CAN do it. And it gets a little easier with age.
2) It is shocking how many teachers don’t see kids that way and are uninterested in trying. It’s almost an epidemic the way that teachers swing between appreciating kids as if they were other adults—gassing them up, frankly LYING about their depth or intelligence in ways that shock me on the daily (when people call a kid mature and act like that is a literal statement and don’t contextualize it, I have to laugh, literally none of them ARE mature, they’re all raw; also the smartest of them aren’t deep. They CAN’t be, they’re KIDS)—or on the other hand being disgusted with their immaturity as if, again, they’re dealing with adults. And expressing their scorn and disappointment as if some of that behavior isn’t par for the course. There’s a cruelty in either extreme; there’s a lack of common sense; there’s a rampant sentimentalism. And it makes me almost sick to my stomach sometimes.
#teaching tag#the real tea is that a lot of people who are teachers shouldn’t be#and I am aware of the arrogance attached to that statement#but there is a lot of real bullshit behavior going on and inappropriate behavior going on (I do not mean in any legal or moral way)#it’s just simply not appropriate treatment for the students#and it makes me so angry I could spit nails or scream#this is heightened by the Mood I am currently in#which is Heightened because of. well because of many things#but I FEEL this to the depths of my soul nonetheless#the problem is also that I simply never SEE the teachers who I am sure are doing their job correctly#because they’re too busy actually doing it#but yeah. I’m Tired and re-evaluating some friendships I’ve opened the door to this year#because it’s just so hard to be around all the time
