as i wasn't able to start from day 1, i'm pretty sure i won't be able to consistently post, especially since i might be doing my clinical internship soon...

pretty proud of myself for accomplishing 2/5 research proposals before the week ends :)

i'm using kind of a system where i make a table of 2 columns and 5 rows containing the title, individual cells for: significance, relevance, mode of analysis and references + a column for self notes -> really love this system, i'm thinking of making a post for this ? in hopes of helping others doing or about to do their research who would want a more organized and systematic(?) way in doing things, haha

i need to go to uni tomorrow to fix my subjects for this sem and i hope... and pray (please pray for me) that i may be able to join the lecture of the senior interns for the convenience of both me and our professor + that my academic grant already be approved so i can enroll already !!

im really excited to undergo solo research and clinical internship, and i really hope and pray things go well this time, especially since its my last 2 semesters in college and pls, as much as i like studying my major, id like to graduate soon ??? hahaha 😮‍💨

hi ! fellow writer here (i'm on anon bc i'm a little sheepish ack) and i just wanted to say: no, it's not selfish for you to want more interaction, or to stop, but i don't think interaction is the end all be all, either. i personally have loved your oneshots, and i'm really, really happy that you love them as much as you do! they're really good and you should take pride, joy, and self-satisfaction in your writing!! but i also feel so sad seeing you consider not doing what you want to do because that's not what's popular on your blog. :( to me that sounds like marketing !! and that's :(( because you, and other writers, are not huge, faceless corporations with which marketing should matter at all. writing should be a communal act in which everyone comes together for just that: community ! and if you have a whole half of that relationship not giving you what you need, and at worst has you internalizing your self-worth based on what you can produce, then it's okay to ask for more or stop, as you were considering.

sorry i took so long to answer this and thank you for it as well ! but yes i do agree that fanfiction is a community thing, i also think, after dwelling on it for a bit, the want for attention for my work is not a vanity thing? and as writers/creators we make art to create a physical piece of our passions in the world, so when it's left unnoticed/not commented on, it's kind of hard to not take it personally! i also think that there's a line on what would be considered selfish because no one is obligated to give my work attention, but im not a bad person to want some type of feedback from people who have liked it without giving as much as a "omg!" or "i love this!" so yes, i agree it's not selfish, it's just a small but big wish that one day we will have more responses to our works that we love ourselvez,, i think it's just a human thing to want some sort of feedback/praise instead of nothing at all 😭

I just got out of court from trying Mr. Peter Narian, and I am happy to say it was a success. This trial was far more straightforward than the last; it was a matter of systematically presenting evidence of wrongdoing, confirming he had no evidence to the contrary or license to do so, and then moving onto the next. I got a guilty verdict, and even Lord van Zieks seemed pleased.

There are so many other pantheons that don't get proper treatment in fate. Where's fucking Susano'o? Where's Tezca? Where's Set for the egyptian gods? How does a game manage to put avatars of Ra and Horus in the same room but no Set and Isis avatars. Where TF is Xolotl. Where are all of the more interesting gods. Greek gods have been used to death in just about every series. Give us some variety.

there is....so much I could say, so much I could gush about in regards to so many gods and how much potential their interactions in FGO would have. Especially since as I showed in that Prelude I literally have Set as a major character in my grail war fic. (and my friend has his favorite OC in a persona fic use Xolotl!) But I honestly can't say anything about FGO's handling of this that I haven't before, it's all literally as simple as "The creator likes the Greek gods the most so those are the only ones that get fully represented" Just another one of the fundamental issues with the series, really. Or once again rather just FGO specifically.

When it's something like Stay Night, Apocrypha, Zero, etc etc etc, where it's a single contained story, you don't need to represent everything; it'd be downright unreasonable to expect that. Even with how FGO started we can't really expect that.

But at this point, it's so much larger in scale. Part 1 to a certain degree for sure since it boils down to all of collective history vs a seemingly impossible to avoid future. But then on top of that Part 2 really REALLY kickstarted a level of expansion of the franchise in both the scale of its plot and of its roster. There are like upwards of 350 characters at this point just in terms of who we can summon in game. When you have a roster that big but dont even spare a second proper member of an entire pantheon, that's not an issue of "we cant fit it all in there" that's an issue of you not trying to represent it all. And as someone neck deep in historical fiction I get how hard it is to balance it out when you're always going to have some overlap in favorites! But when it's THIS centralized, which FGO definitely is when it comes to west-European and Japanese figures for humanity, and Graeco-Roman for divine beings, it inherently undermines the entire concept.

honestly there's some truly problematic stuff I could go into about this but really dont want to especially when i'm almost certain it's unintentional undertones rather than active malice. Especially when instead I can circle back to what I said at the start:

Firstly, while it's a shit game you should absolutely look to Smite if you want to see what properly spread out pantheon representation looks like. Secondly: I'm just going to give a list of some figures I have in my writing either as an established character or at least conceptualized, and specifically those who I explicitly set out do something with because I feel like they have so much potential that isn't ever going to be explored in series like Fate or Record of Ragarok (A series that so far is overall more consistent in quality but still has a not as bad version of Fate's overly centralized representation). This wont even include ones that are well known yet rarely used (Thank christ for Red Pyramid otherwise I dont fcking know what I would do for quality portrayals of Set and Bast), just the ones that I think "I can't believe we always use the same handful of gods when all this exists". I’ll also even limit myself to one per pantheon.

MY RE-WRITING PARTS OF THE ACOTAR SERIES

*some acosf spoilers thrown in because i realize that SJM is writing a story so far removed from what i thought the story should go*

*a bit rant-y but i think this would have made the story more compelling*

i still think elain should have died in the cauldron back in ACOMAF and in my logic this would set of a story that will definitely heal and see powerful women who didn’t have power before be able to weld and rise up.

- nesta and feyre is over protective of elain and would do anything for her (and quite frankly elain’s personality is almost none existent. nesta and feyre are fantastic juxtapositions of one another and can carry themselves well)

- killing elain in the cauldron would up the stakes for both feyre and nesta (instead of making the only thing interesting about elain being likeable, gardening, azriel/lucien ships, pretty and agreeable, and bouncing back and forth between sisters)

- therefore forcing them to work together; push aside their personal bad blood for one another in the name of avenging elain

- through that process of strategizing and learning about fae and their own abilities (feyre’s high lord powers and nesta’s power she stole from the cauldron) they learn to appreciate one another. (and since this is a love story, nesta can still train with cassian but it would be BECAUSE SHE ASKED TO BE TRAINED instead of being forced to)

- they would eventually HAVE to confront their deep personal relationship to one another and move pass their old pains (INSTEAD OF MAKING FEYRE ALMOST DIE FROM SOMETHING THAT SHOULDN’T BE AN ISSUE OR ANY OF THE SPITEFUL SHIT THAT HAPPENS IN ACOSF)

- we learn about their family and their dynamics and how they can agree that their father is trash and even talk about the pain their mother gave (where BOTH SISTERS WILL HAVE AN APPRECIATION OF EACH OTHER AND MAKE SURE WHEN THEY HAVE FAMILIES OF THEIR OWN THEY WON’T TREAT THEIR KIDS THE SAME WAY AND EVEN HELPING HUMAN FAMILIES WHO STRUGGLED LIKE THEM)

- no locking anyone up!!!! the self sabotage of nesta won’t happen because she will put her energy into avenging elain; thus fighting for a bigger cause than herself and make her actually use the power she stole. SHE WOULD HAVE AGENCY. NO RELYING ON THE DRINKING/SEX BECAUSE OF PAIN TROPE. NO RHYSAND BEING A FUCKEN DICK AND EVERYONE SHIT TALKING TO NESTA. they can still have that disagreeable dynamic, whatever but rhysand being over protective and everyone else ganging up on her was disgusting and she did not deserve that.

- WE WILL SEE THEM BECOME LEADERS -- they will lead the strategy along w the IC; we will see them lead with the other high lords, we will see them convince the humans. we got glimpses of that in ACOWAR! SJM writes girlbosses which is just *rolls eyes*. lets let these ladies actually LEAD. let them actually have power instead of writing lip service for that. or taking their fucken power away for the drama. (WTF WAS THE FEYRE CAN’T HEAL BULLSHIT?? WHY STIFLE FEYRE WHEN SJM BUILT HER UP IN THE LAST FOUR FUCKEN BOOKS TO BE THIS POWERFUL FIGURE BUT LIKE GIVING BIRTH, A NATURAL THING THAT FEMALES CAN DO, IS GONNA KILL HER AND MAKE HER THE MOST VULNERABLE SHES EVER BEEN AND MAKE RHYSAND LOOK LIKE A SHIT PARTNER CUZ HE REFUSE TO TELL HER ABOUT HER RISKS. - when war is fought and lost; we see them stand together to become the new leaders of the new world. the wall is gone and hybern is killed. again, we got a glimpse of that in ACOWAR at the end. there should have been a moment when fayre confronts tamlin and TALK to him. they seemed so poised to be LEADERS. new leadership because the old high lords are garbage and they fucked up so many times. introduce new policies, introduce new trade deals, beef up economies (esp since this is hyberns main reason to high up prythian), etcetc.

- feyre can work on leading night court as a high lady along with leading the rebuild of spring court (since she fucken wrecked it, displaced all the citizens, and took it from tamlin. feyre also knows about spring court’s rebuilding effort and how the tilthe isn’t it. she even said that tamlin should not make ppl bring useless things because they have so many things. the water folks dont have fish and that tamlin should have helped them hunt for fish or whatever instead of punishing them) and the new laws and policies for humans (can be intigration?? rhys and feyre talked about human refugees??? where did that talk go??). we can actually see feyre be a HIGH lady instead of her spending her days shopping and decorating and breeding (WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT WOULD HAPPEN WITH TAMLIN and we saw that as a bad thing!!! why spend 600 goddamn pages talking about not being that to turn 180 and be exactly that????)

- feyre’s reason for fighting has also been to the benefit of the human realm. the fact that she kind of said fuck it as the books progressed to where nesta or elain are the ambassador to the human realm felt so wrong because being human once was what was special about feyre. that was her north star. her whole heartedly identifying fae is wrong (maybe this is my theory about ACOTAR being a tragedy comes in).

- nesta would finally be an actual queen. you can’t tell me with all the mentions of nesta having queen energy is gonna translate to whatever the fuck it was in ACOSF??? nesta would get leadership experience. she would have purpose! she might even be able to envision of brighter future and fight to not let something like hybern happen again. protect those who can’t be protected? protect those who see the light in the world the way elain did?? maybe even her power can protect the cauldron and she could be a guardian or something??

- this is where i venture off; after the war, feyre leads the rebuild in prythian. nesta can lead the effort in hybern (AGAIN NO LOCKING UP!!! NO TAKING TIPS FROM TAMLIN’S HANDBOOK. NO FORCING HER AGAINST HER WILL!!!). she could rebuild it in a new name and face. her book could focus on her learning about her power; learning about how to please the hybern folks who dont like her (and i like that nesta isnt a likeable person from the start unless you are someone like meeeee). imagine seeing her ACTUALLY make her own friends and have her own inner circle??? imagine her making new friends and helping others. imagine her ruling??? making policys and laws?? imagine her going to different courts to do economic trades and deals?? she would channel her energy into something HELPFUL AND IMPACTFUL. she can still dance and do the big ball stuff. she can host she can feel like shes in control and maybe even channeling her guilt into something that is systematically helpful.

- along w this, cassian would be able to leave night court. he has been side line for so long. hes a buffer between mor and az and thats unfair to him. hes his own person and shouldnt be deligated to that task. he would have to actively choose nesta, which he wasn’t doing throughout the original trilogy. he would have to be placed in an environment outside his comfort! cassian is so much more than a goof ball and buffer. besides his skills might be necessary to handle hybern’s war-happy citizens

- we can see more of this world. hybern is sitting empty and the problems from the start still exists. im just so disappointed that SJM drops hints of scocio-economic problems that exists in the fae world and dont deliver. why deliver something so complicated to ignore??? its such ashame this world is so rich and beautiful and the characters are so fun to read about and for it to be turn out...so....trope-y (IN A BAD WAY). the original stories are fine too i guess, but it doesn’t feel planned out. it feels like SJM writes on a whim and just changes things as she sees it fit the relationship of characters.

im the anon who asked about using transfem, im not actually sure if i would be able to side with transmisogyny? a lot of things terfs say do seem to impact me but from what i heard transmisogyny is a more systematic thing (like not letting transfem people into women's shelters, which most likely would not impact me personally). please correct me if im wrong though. also, im transitioning femininely if that helps at all, i forgot to add that in my last ask

It really does depend, because what terfs day does impact all intersex people, and I do know how hurtful and unimaginable it can be but I think you just need to ask yourself if you hold power over transfem people.

I can’t tell you whether or not you can use transfem because afab/raised as a woman does not tell me a lot. There’s amab intersex people who were raised as women by their families, there’s so many different bodies and situations and experiences that I just cannot tell you. If you mean you have hyperandrogenism and you were afab and raised as a woman and taking measures to appear more physically feminine, I would say no because that’s what transfem people have said.

I was assigned female at birth, raised as a boy until puberty, and I’m taking HRT and getting electrolysis done, but I’m still not affected by transmisogyny. Any transmisogyny that I do experience is misdirected or comes as a result of actual TMA people being targeted.

I’m not saying this is your experience because I have no idea at all, you could identify as transfem and I wouldn’t have a say in it, but it’s not a conclusion that sounds like you’re going to come to overnight. This is really all I can say especially because I do not know you.

I don't want to tell you what to do but this word as well as others like "crazy" as descriptors are so deeply rooted in common usage but also very, very ableist at the core. i want to say that, although it’s not your intention to come off as rude, it is kind of rude to assume that i don’t deal with mental illness and that i’ve never thought about this before. just because i don’t have all of my mental illnesses listed in my bio does not mean i am not mentally ill... you kind of don’t know anything about me regarding this, because i try and keep it private and not make a lot of vent posts, because i generally am become uncomfortable with venting online to strangers. you saying “the mentally ill” like it’s a foreign concept is pretty funny to me considering that i struggle with mental illness...

okay so. let’s get to the response to this

first off, i agree with you that using words like “crazy” and “insane” can be rude and ableist when used in a rude and ableist context. if you are calling other people “crazy” and “insane” to describe their actions towards you, like a guy saying “my crazy bitch ex girlfriend”, that’s obviously fucked up and an improper use of the word. additionally, other words, like “ps*cho” and shit are totally off the table to say, imho, as they have a much deeper effect.

but i think that it depends on how you use the word. much like saying “that’s so gay,” VS “i’m so gay,” when you’re actually using the word to describe your own feelings and emotions, that’s pretty much a proper use of the word in terms of its definition, instead of using it to hurt others or to associate it with something to look down upon. this leads me to my next point, which is how i use these words to describe myself, which is personal so i’m going to put a read more

as for the personal side and context as to how i typically use these words, i feel like i usually use them in their proper manner, i.e., to describe my own feelings.

so my tag “goes insane, bites u” is pretty silly, at first glance. right, it’s like, a meme or a joke? well... the use of “im insaneeeee” as a phrase that has become common recently “as a joke” has actually been kind of relieving to me as someone who deals with trauma and a whole sleuth of other things... like, when i am feeling super overwhelmed, panicked, and yes , “insane,” i can say, “haha im insanneeee” and it won’t sound like i’m weird for being this way, that i’m weird for having panic attacks, meltdowns, sobbing randomly, etc, etc. 

you can’t see me do these things, because the entirety of my life doesn’t exist on tumblr , so i understand that it might just seem that i’m some weird random fandom blog who doesn’t give two shits and has a perfectly happy life. but i do experience these things and it’s part of my life

when i say “im going insaneeee”, etc. in relation to posts about parental characters / parental relationships,,,...... did you ever think that there might be a reason behind that? or that i might be reacting in an actual “insane” way? i phrase it jokingly, but a lot of the time, i am actually “going insane.” i phrase it like this for both my own comfort (what i talked about where it normalizes it and makes me feel less weird) but also for brevity, and ALSO? to make the artist/op/etc feel way more comfortable than if i literally just spilled everything and said, “this art represents a relationship i desire between myself and my absent parent, whose violence towards me and my other parent still affects me every day, to this day...........” because that’s fucked up and no one would want to read that coming from a stranger, right? i think i’ve said before that the witcher is like “a coping medium” for me and i interact with it not just on a general fandom level, but it has provided me kind of like a way of dealing with shit that i’ve had to encounter...

obviously i don’t have to describe my entire life and trauma to a stranger on the internet, because that’s just not something that i either feel comfortable with or that i need to do, but i wanted to just give an example of where i’m coming from with this. 

i also want to say that i have seen this argument many times, and i also think a lot about a post about this specific argument but i can’t find it right now, but basically what the post says is that eliminating words like “crazy” and “insane” from our vocabularies with no thought of WHY we’re doing it beyond “it can be ableist”, without actually considering what these words mean and the variety of ways in which they can be used, and what we could do to directly benefit the lives of mentally ill people, is a HUGELY liberal standpoint that focuses on the performativity of personal choice instead of the SYSTEMATIC CHANGES that would help lessen the effects of the ableism baked into our society. 

so yeah that’s pretty much it, i get if it makes you uncomfortable and i’ll try not to use these words in like derogatory ways like “you’re insane if you think that...” because i get where that can start to feel wrong, although i can’t remember a post i’ve made where i said that (if you want to link me to posts like that that i’ve made, i can edit them).

hi, im having a really hard time trying to discern this, but is it alright if a pantheistic witch celebrates the sabbats? I know that the celebrations aren't inherently Wiccan, but the fact that Wiccan is the most dominant, everything seems clouded by it. Also, how exactly do you think of gods/goddesses? I am interested in devoting to them but have a hard time trying to work it out in my brain since I do believe in an all-powerful Being at the same time??? help please lol

More specifically to address your concerns, the sabbats are almost always celebrated by Wiccans, but they are not inherently Wiccan. Almost every culture from Hindus to ancient Celts celebrate the solstices and equinoxes, but Wiccans do create a Wheel of the Year story that is very much for their narrative. There’s nothing wrong with this, but you can absolutely research each of these holidays and systematically decide which fit in your practices and which may not. I give a short summary of what I do for each one and why in the link above. 

As for gods and goddesses, as a naturalistic pantheist, I do not recognize them as divine beings, more myth and metaphor, but because of this I do not ‘work with them’ the way many Wiccans or other pagan might. I do know some Wiccans who see their gods this way and feel they are different extensions or facets of one, greater, all powerful being. This could technically be considered a form of pantheism and actually relates somewhat to the Hindu concept of Brahman. 

Alternatively, instead of choosing specific pantheons of gods to work with, some Wiccans and other witches simply identify a Lord and Lady as personifications of the masculine and feminine in the universe - the two underlying yin and yang that create balance. They, also, could be seen as two sides of one all-powerful being. 

The real core questions I believe you need to ask yourself include: 

Do you believe there are many, separate, individual gods that you can/should build a personal relationship with? 

If so, are they actual entities or metaphorical concepts? 

If they are just concepts, are you benefited by having a relationship with these?  If yes - be considerate to fully research and understand not just those deities, but the culture and history behind them. Avoid the pitfall of ‘cafeteria style religion’ where you pick and choose gods and goddesses from drastically different cultures in a way that disrespects both the people and religion around them. 

If you are more inclined to believing in a singular entity, focus on what that entity looks like:

Is it all powerful? 

Is it sentient? 

Is it influencing your life? 

What kind of worship does it demand? 

How do you connect to it?

A silly goal but I would like another female character lol

More one-shots! I always have these ideas for them but because I let them grow too large in my brain or I feel like I need to turn them into a proper ‘short story’ I intimidate myself out of doing them and then let the opportunity to slide. So this year I hope to fix that and once again be more chillax with myself. (Though here is a shoutout to me bc I published some one-shots last year I was happy about, like Nemo’s “Breath,” Berlioz’s parentage reveal, and my John Darling stuff!) 

Do One Task Every Month. Another small but very doable goal 

Learn how to say no: ahaha this seems a weird thing to put here but its actually about events and i feel this is a safe space to admit that i love love events but they like, truly take a toll on my arthritic hands which means i really can only do two characters probably. But i feel bad only rping with just two ppl etc esp if other people hit me up, or if there are other people i WANT to rp with, so i end up not doing it at all because i get overwhelmed and feel like no one will believe me about my shitty hands (which is of course silly but man chronic illness anxiety am i right). Sooooo i need to find a better way to enjoy events and manage my own health! 

Finish some of the fairy lore stuff i got in the works lol

Ashleigh: Entangle her further with the knights/Henry and eventually reveal she’s a mara bc i would like that for Henry it will be horrifying for him

Nemo: embrace dance as a career option and therefore overcome the systematic factors that have convinced u that u cant! YOU CAN 

Jun: Date. (Horrifying for him. Not his goal.) Also just more hijinks, I love love hijinks, would love business-related hijinks. 

Olaf: Get more involved on campus!! More uni plots for him would be great esp when it comes to figuring out if he’ll stay on campus after this year (and also like how this affects his friendship with Sindri) 

Atta: QUEEN STUFF. This is first on my list so we’re gonna make you happen. Blow up Atta’s life, really make her deal with that imposter syndrome. Love it. 

Pip: Put the mortifying fear of being known into Pip. aka open up about his mum a bit with like, someone. Or just admit that the people he says are his enemies are actually his friends.

Note that I love seeing which characters echo my goals and which ones don’t at all. It’s just fun and neat. Probably says something about each one’s emotional self-awareness. (Mostly pointing out how Hades is extremely self-aware i love that for him)

Olaf: Get involved in uni! Learn more about his talent and practice it intentionally, including how to control it better so he is not overwhelmed in situations like the nightmare fog. 

Atta: Help Dot with her apprenticeship!! Learn more stuff about clumsy culture. Pass her petition about water fountains. 

Pip: Grow SSIC followers by 100+; grow Spill engagement by 20%; arrange guest speakers for SSIC and maybe help SSIC write a petition together?; get a solo for the spring concert; get a lead role in the summer musical; read 50 books in a year; drink less coffee (he will fail this last one)

Pacifica: Hello Lins, Pacifica and Ashleigh should be Best Friends Of Course. I could also maybe see Pacifica and Jun if Pacifica wants to do some kind of business philanthropy for her image etc. Or Olaf and Pacifica! Sounds like a wild time, that. 

Tod: Olaf/Tod would probably be very fun, I love Pixie friendships! Also maybe Ber bc i think Ber knows Tod from way back when maybe? 

Edward: Z PLEASE. PLEASE. Pip and Edward bc they are from the same movie and no other reason!! But I will also throw literally anyone at him. 

Plotting Exercise! Pick one of the resolutions/goals in #2 and plan a rough guideline to how you could accomplish it. Here’s an example.

Please help. Im taking an anthro class for my ge, and I have big test coming up soon. I know it probably sounds like im heck dumb, but emic and etic confuse the shit out of me. I know they have something to do with cultural perspectives (I think? Like 90% confident about that) but after that I got nothing.

First, breathe. I do not think you are dumb at all for having trouble with Emic and Etic. For such simple concepts they can be ridiculously confusing. Also, give yourself a pat on the back because you are correct in thinking they have to do with cultural perspectives.

Emic and Etic are the two different and most basic perspectives that a culture (or cultures) can be viewed from. 

Emic is the understanding of a culture from the inside out, or an insiders perspective.

Etic is the understanding of a culture from the outside in, or the outsiders perspective.

I use “culture” as a general term. The way I am using it, it refers to both an overarching cultural identity AND to any of its subsets (which may be broken down by region, religion, sexual identity, pretty much anything you can think of).

Now, this might be a little more in depth then you need for your test, but its important to remember that Emic and Etic perspectives can exist at the same time even within a single culture. How? It goes back to the definition of culture I mentioned earlier. Cultures are diverse even within themselves. Think of culture like a Russian nesting doll: you have the big doll and inside of that you have a bunch of other dolls. The big doll represents the overarching cultural group, and the little dolls are those subsets. Same culture, many parts- all at the same time.

I hope I haven't confused you with that analogy. Anyway, back to Emic and Etic.

I’m going to apply the two terms to an irl example that I am fairly confident you will be filmier with, even if in just a cursory way. And keep in mind that this is a gross simplification:

The Black Lives Matter movement and why its important.

Now, within this community of people there is -AT ITS MOST BASIC BREAKDOWN- two separate camps of people: those that are a part of the African American community, and those that are not.

The African American contingent has the EMIC perspective and understanding of why BLM matters, because it is their cultural group that is directly facing the impact of police brutality and systematic racisms.

The “other” contingent has the ETIC perspective. While they may be well informed, read all the latest articles, watch the news, and even have friends who are African American, their understanding of why BLM is important is going to be fundamentally different because they are not members of the community directly impacted by the issue.

Both sides agree that the issue is important, but the perspectives are different. Make sense?

the last thing I want to share is an easy way to remember the difference between Emic and Etic. Its in the spelling.

Emic has an M, because its My inside understanding of my culture.

Etic has a T, because its Their outside understanding of my culture.

I think you’d suit Shouto simply because you’re passionate! In a way, you remind me of Midoriya and I think that fits Shouto’s type perfectly.

Shouto is a person who strikes me as someone who just enjoys listening to their partner go on and on about anything they love and he’d just love sitting and watching you make little hand gestures and the shine in your eyes?? GOD he loves you.

Shouto as a Boyfriend

Your daily life with Shouto would consist of long conversations and constantly learning new things about each other. Despite however long you’d have been with him, your personality would be able to lure every aspect of Shouto out into the open for you to see.

He’s systematic and wakes up at about 7 - 8am, but he’ll see you still so peacefully asleep that he now wakes up at about 9ish simply so he can wrap his arms around you and bring you close to his chest. 

He’d watch you breathe and feel your heartbeat in sync with his, slowly easing his mind back to sleep...

Until he remembers he has to go to work.

He’d ask almost daily about you training horses!! He’d be super interested and he’d even ask to go and see the horses (and he’d be so happy because who wouldn’t be happy seeing horses).

He’d make you breakfast on days that you decided you wanted to sleep in and go off to do hero work. Something simple like coffee and some scrambled eggs on toast is what you’ll get, but it’s appreciated

He’d even leave a note on simply wishing you a good day and how he’ll be home soon.

When he does gets back home, he’s normally horribly exhausted and worn out. He’ll just sit on the couch and try his hardest not to doze off. Being one of the top heroes does that to you.

He’d sit and twirl your hair around in his fingers, playing with it subconsciously as the TV blares in the background. His favourite thing to do is simply glaze his eyes over your gorgeous features and remind himself that you were his.

Sometimes he’ll catch you whilst you’re drawing or you’re writing. Don’t be surprised if he pokes his nose there silently and asks if he could see it. He’s pretty proud that you’re so talented and reading or seeing the work for himself gives him even more pride. Like “GUYS LOOK AT HOW MY BABY DOES WORDS” but less loud and less embarrassing.

He might even provide criticism and praise, if you allow him to.

I swear Shouto has a thing for necks, so you’ll find if you’re just sitting around or lazing about, you’ll suddenly feel a cold touch on the back of your neck. As you scream or yelp in surprise, you’ll hear the deep chuckles from behind you. It’s pretty cute how you turn red and playfully scold him afterwards.

He also LOVES to put his chin on your head. You’re so cute and tiny like hello???? babie????

Shouto is, as everyone thinks, really responsible. He helps around with the chores, he does the dishes, he cleans up after himself. Being in a relationship with Shouto is perfect to those who look on the outside.

Now whilst Shouto is honestly seen as perfect boyfriend material, everyone has their flaws.

Considering that you’re seemingly a talkative and charismatic person, Shouto may sometimes struggle to continue the conversation.

I don’t mean this as in like he’d not focus or he wouldn’t remember what you said three seconds ago, but it’s simply because he’s not sure how to. 

I mean sure, he can make conversations and actually, he’s quite the talker himself when it comes to something he enjoys. An event or a memory that reminded him of you? Yeah, he’ll go on about those for hours.

But he just doesn’t conversation like everyone else does. 

He’ll end a conversation pre-maturely, on accident or mainly because he doesn’t know what else to say? He has opinions, but he’s pretty lost on how exactly to word them to you.

He isn’t one to use words, lemme tell ya.

You’ll find yourself rambling on and on about something and when you ask him a question about said subject he’ll probably not respond because he’s like “uh... what do I say??? how do I say it???”

But as your relationship grows, you’ll find this happening less and less.

He’s also a pretty jealous person. If you have a lot of admirers get ready for a protective Shouto because oh boy oh boy will he have a WORD.

He’ll wrap his arm tight and snug around your waist, placing the gentlest, yet most fierce kiss on your lips as he stares in your eyes.

Basics on Sun and Moon - Brief on their Functions ⬇️

Note: not gonna pull up everything about the Sun-Moon bc thats gonna make this post long, I’ll just be answering on the context of this ask!! Feel free to do more research on the topic tho its v interesting!! 🖤💖🦇

The Technical Part

Ok.. ok so I’ll start by talking about the technical part. As in why we might think that or observe that (in regards to your ask!!) 

First, we’d have to have a clearer idea of what the sun does and what the moon does. What they represent, because we can observe a gemini moon reacting to things in a gemini manner, we may understand someone better through their organic feedback (in this case, the moon, with this hypothesis aka ur question). That’s easy right? But then what does the sun do? 

So. First. With the Sun, we usually talk about it as our ego, vitality, honor, esteem, intelligence, judgement, actions. The moon represents receptivity, habits, routines, moods, emotions and part of our reactions to things. The way I kinda put this is that we might choose to act out of our sun. But we tend to react to something out of our moon. It’s a loose interpretation, don’t quote me, a mix-match of both modern and traditional representation of the luminaries. BUT!! looking at this, maybe we can begin to see it reflect their behaviour (the person in question) -- since it has to do with how they receive and process part of their life. And thus thats the part that we could see/observe of another person - why we deem the Moon to be in charge of our subconscious as well (to take away: organic reactions/feelings/processing of certain things, subconscious) 

So. To clarify again. Perhaps the reason why we see someone’s moon and sun, and gravitate towards their moon as the archetype (in this context) is because that’s their behaviour, their emotions, moods, them processing and reacting to things in an organic reply. In the same case, perhaps why we might think of someone’s sun is because they choose to act the way they do, the honor and they way they uphold themselves, live by or see the purpose of their methods. The luminaries/planets play a pretty large part in our astrological make ups, our understanding of someone and how we grow to learn and connect to them as person as well.

So. Because the Moon can be reactive, we might contribute our understanding of the signs archetype to the moon placement (i.e. ‘why does the gemini moon act more like a gemini than a gemini sun’). Note how it’s our understanding of the archetype, so what we assume/associate to the overall Gemini type is what we’re associating to their reaction here (rather than the sun, which is what/how they choose to act/choice).

Seeing what someone represent or choose to show - whether it’s voluntary or just how they are - that’s how we get to know someone and form personal relationships with them. By seeing how they respond to things, perhaps less consciously even - draws us closer to the person. Of course, this doesn’t mean that we don’t recognize the Sun’s functions or features- we do form close personal bonds to someone based on what they choose to do, act, or think about certain things. How they take the same kind of material (i.e. let’s say like,  the topic of equal rights) and stand up for it in their own way. Nobody acts or reacts the same way, and thus why the different luminaries (Sun/Moon) aren’t the same either! Because they have different functions and thus - contexts and ways they reside over/work for us!

So I got.. a little over-excited explaining this. But I hope I made sense and wasn’t just rambling and lost your attention/train of thought. But yeah!! I hope this makes sense ;; 

For those who’s wondering what Mercury (think) Mars (act) have as their function then - well, Mercury still represents your logic, rational, education, critical thinking, communication, judgement and explanations. It does represent intellect - but more specifically what we use to come to our intellect if that makes sense? Whilst Mars can represent the more primal aspect of action taking, as in what our drive, impulses, how we go after things we want. Our technique and perhaps on the same note - instinct. So! 

OH also!!! On another note: it’s also likely that someone may have a night chart, which doesn’t take away from the fact that both their luminaries are still pretty prominent fixtures in their life. But when we’re trying to study techniques of what might create a systematic look at their influences, it’s very helpful to consider whether the person in question has a day or night chart so we can see more of what influences they may be compelled by and what hinders them less.

Anyways, this was long. But I wanted to give an explanation since this is such a good thought-provoking ask. So now for the fun part:

The Fun Part

To actually answer your q, not just geminis, generally a lot of people might see their moon counterpart and be like oh shit why are u so feral. 

Kinda like, a virgo sun say, meeting a virgo moon. And theyre like oh shit ure like. so fucking feral my thude what the fuck is up with that?? even im not that pressed about it oh my god what the fuck is happening. Or a sag sun meeting a sag moon and theyre like oh my god im tired let me go HOME i can’t walk another mile please who is this why are you torturing me. 

In a way - the reason I went into a tangent above is because I wanted to explain why those who have their moon in x sign, may experience and react to certain things differently than those who have their sun in x signs. Because the Sun and Moon have different functions. And thus, when you look at it like this: it kinda makes sense that we differentiate between the two - and consider ourselves a third party, forming association to the different archetypes, and gravitating (or perhaps moving away from) the ones we may feel comfortable with more.

But yeah! anyways. Thats my take on the subject. I guess we could try to see whether there’s a sun/moon conjunction but that’s another explanation on aspects and why sun/moon aspects are significant as (the sun is v important!! especially since aspects formed to the sun can talk about light on the surface of the moon and it’s functions as well!! why im talking about moon phases in astrology but thats another story)

Two Christmas’ (Alec Volturi x Reader)

You were nervous. You were still working on your relationship with Jane but was disadvantaged since you were romantically involved with Alec. She thought you were taking her brother from her and it especially didn’t go well since you were human. Even Alec himself, had trouble with that sometimes. As of recently things were going well and you didn’t want to ruin that. 

You and Alec made plans for spending some time out of the castle on Christmas day which was tomorrow. Alec wanted Jane to come along since they didn’t like being apart unless they had to. Jane decided to go but they were interrupted by Aro, who offered his opinion. “I don’t believe you should, Jane. Such a day should be spent exclusively with your significant other. I don’t think (Y/N) would appreciate you coming along.” The twins were very disheartened by this so much so that they said nothing else about it. Alec only just telling you. While he was away to meet some nomads on the outskirts of Italy, you saw the opportunity to approach Jane and give her what you had been hiding all along.

You dug into your beside drawer taking out a box about the six of your palm. You’d never be ready so you immediately left, trying not to think too hard on what you were about to do. 

You knocked on the door, hiding the box behind your back and Jane opened it a second later with a skeptical look. “Hi Jane, I was hoping I could talk to you?” “...Very well. Close the door behind you.” Jane turned away and you hurried in, doing as she asked.  “Take a seat.” She gestured to the bed. You complied and she followed suit.  “You’ve been awfully quiet. You’ve been locked away in here for about two days now...are you okay?” “I can assure you, im fine.” She said with a stoic expression. It sounded systematic in how she said it. “Uhm, well, Alec told me-” “What do you have behind your back?” Jane tried to peer behind you but you continued to block her view. “I’ll show you in a second. I just want to talk to you about something first.” You said quickly and she remained quiet. “Alec mentioned that you two were talking about tomorrow.” she hummed in agreement, nodding once.  “He also told me what Aro said.” You didn’t get a response so you continued. “I didn’t think it fair for Aro speak for me. Truth be told, Alec didn’t tell me anything about this until just before he left. So i didn’t know that you coming was even on table but i wanted to tell you in person that I’d be thrilled if you came with us.” Jane seemed taken aback for a second. “But Aro-” “-was wrong, or at least, he wasn’t accurate. Christmas is about spending the time with the people you love and i want to spend it with my family.” “I dont understand.” Jane muttered. “I know you have your judgements about me and i know you think i’m going to snatch your brother and run away but I promise i have no intention. I find it admirable how close you two are, I wouldn’t dream of separating you. It wouldn’t be right if you weren’t there, not just because i know it would dampen Alec’s mood but also because...you’re my sister.”  What really drove it home was you calling Jane your sister. She wouldn’t have believed you otherwise but if you were exceptionally cruel, you wouldn’t have went to such lengths. It made her second guess whether she was really losing her brother or if she was actually gaining someone else. 

“So, um, I got you something, consider it a Christmas present that’s also a peace offering?” You gave her a small smile holding out the black box. “I mean, im not really supposed to give you it until tomorrow and I didn’t get the chance to wrap it or anything but-” You were cut off when Jane gently took the box, looking shocked. “How...when?”  “I have my ways.” You joked lightly. She opened it and stared at it.

Inside was a silver charm bracelet, already including three charms. “I didn’t know what kind of charms you’d like or if you even liked charms so forgive me if you don’t like them.” You scratched behind your neck. One was red with black roses, another glittering gold and the last white and opaque.  “It’s beautiful.” Jane trailed her fingers along it. “Tell me about these...charms.” Jane said quietly.  “Oh well, you can pick your own and have as many as you like. Is your first time seeing them?” Jane nodded. “They look like small pendants.” You smiled. “Do you like it?” You asked and Jane nodded again. “Thank you. I’ve never received a gift for an occasion. Gifts are rare.” “Im glad, i didn’t show Alec to see if you’d like it. I haven’t got him anything or anyone else for that matter." Jane heard something as her head perked up. "Alec's returning. He's coming this way." "Hide that!" You said quickly with excitable glee as Jane quickly put it in her desk drawer and made her way back. 

A minute later, Alec walked through the door. "Im surprised to see you two together." "Yes well-" You spoke up but Jane interrupted you. "We missed you, brother. (Y/N), decided to visit and check on me. It's a sweet gesture, don't you think?" Alec nodded with a soft smile. "I appreciate you looking after my sister whilst I'm gone, cara mia." Alec looked at you before bending down to kiss your forehead. You smiled back at him as he moved to quickly kiss his sister's cheek and sat beside her. Before long he was lying on his back. "Alec, please do not make a mess of my bed." Jane scowled. Alec huffed and Jane lightly shoved his arm. "Jane, you know how to make a bed." "That doesn't mean I enjoy doing it." "We have to do it all the time." Alec muttered and Jane, alarmed, looked to you. "Your brother likes to wrestle. Imagine that, eh? A young guy -however old he is- being fueled with testostero-" Alec rolled over, covering your mouth. "let's go. You've said enough." You groaned. "Alright, alright, I'm going, I'm going." Alec hauled you up as you walked back to your shared room. 

He let you go in first, closing the door and wrapping his arms around you from behind. You turned to face him in his arms, wrapping your own around his neck as he smiled at you. “What are you two up to?” Alec’s voice was quiet. “Worried?” You teased. “No, I’m happy to see you both get along but Jane has taken to you rather quickly.” “It’s a start...I gave her a christmas present.” “You did? What did you give her?” Alec seemed surprised. “A charm bracelet, im sure you’ll see it.” “That’s very kind of you cara mia.” “Oh we aren’t done there, my love.” You grinned at him. ��Do you remember telling me about your talk with Jane about tomorrow before Aro got involved?” “Of course.” “Well, I told Jane i wouldn’t have it any other way. I insisted that she come with us tomorrow.” “You did?” Alec’s smile vanished, as though he couldn’t believe what he was hearing. You nodded. “Of course I did. She’s your sister. I’m sure she’ll tell you exactly what i sa-” You were interrupted when Alec gave you a kiss before pulling you into a hug.  “Thank you.” You heard him say into your shoulder. 

Christmas day couldn’t have come fast enough. “Now that is a big Christmas tree.” You said gazing up at the huge decorated tree in the town square but also being met with falling snowflakes to the face. You turned to see both Jane and Alec, also looking up at the tree with violet eyes.  “It’s impressive, indeed.” Jane said. All the surrounding stores were shut but the lights on their display windows still on. One particular display window caught your eye. You gasped. “Oh Jane! Come and see this!” You took Jane’s hand and pulled her along, lightly running toward the window. Alec couldn’t help but smile at the sight of seeing the love of his life and his sister, hands interlocked as they rushed ahead. He stayed back admiring the sight before following after you.

You both peered into the window still holding hands. "More charms!" You exclaimed. "Oh, I love that one!" "I like the silver and blue one." Jane smiled. "Where is it?" You looked puzzled unable to locate it. Jane pointed to the charm. It was silver plated and navy blue with a slight shimmer to it, no where near as glittered as Jane's gold charm. "Oh me too!" You nodded profusely. As she lifted her hand to the window, a twinkle caught your eye. There, on her wrist, was the bracelet you got her which you were certain she had been hiding under her sleeve.

Last Christmas had went from uneasy to one of the best. You remembered it well. It didn't take long for Jane to accept you after that. Whilst the twins still preferred to have their own time together. You were included more often and Jane seemed much happier to see you giving you a smile as she would the Masters or Alec.

You bound into the room, Christmas Eve arriving once again. "Why don't you give your love for Christmas!?" You sang out as you enter the room. "Why hello to you too." Demetri turns to look at you with a smile. "So fun fact, I've got you guys presents this year. However...my bestie gets hers before any of you. She's my favourite." You grin handing Jane a small bag. Jane smirks as she opens the small bag to find another three charms, one however was silver and smooth which has her name on it in cursive. The perfect addition.
