I'm going to get guff for being too mired in a gender binary, but I do want to share something I was told decades ago (like early '90s) that has resonated with me ever since:
Male fandom is acquisitive. Female fandom is creative.
Male fans value completing a collection, owning every pressing of a vinyl record--the 7" single, the 12" single, the limited edition blue vinyl, the album containing the single, the live album where the single is played--or every comic in a series (books 1 - 99, the 9 anthologies, a copy of Issue 53 with the misprint on the cover), their favourite movie in every format (DVD, blu-ray, laser disc, digital, the American VHS, the Japanese VHS, the European DVD). They buy the licensed figures, the signed and numbered animation cels, the official posters, the special boxed set, the Platinum Edition Compendium, the companion collector's guide. They want to complete the set, and the quicker they can do that (quicker than the next guy), the "better" fan they are. They want to have it all and put it in cellophane and be surrounded by it because when they like a thing, they want to own it.
Female fans write fanfiction to put those guys in situations, to fix the things the writers of their show did wrong, to put their own original characters into the novel's world, to see those guys doing dirty stuff to each other. They make paintings and drawings and art books and comics because the actors are beautiful and the characters beloved. They roleplay, send each other headcanons (and elaborate on them, and send them to someone else they know will absolutely know that yes, that's exactly right! that's our guy!), make costumes, make dolls, make quilts of the logo, cross-stitch quotes from the script, and knit the sweater their guy wore in episode 4. They want to make a brand new, but familiar thing and share it. They want to give their work as gifts to each other. They want to praise each other's creativity and thank each other for loving the thing so much. When they like a thing, they want to expand it, share it, pass it on.
The Powers That Be are not exclusively male, but of course they are largely male, and in the interest of acquisition (of money), they drop a wholeass thing--the trilogy of books; the 10-episode "season;" the album, concert film, sticker collection, and range of new t-shirt designs--all at once. Because they understand consumers as people who want to have it all, right away, A - Z, because that is how their own fannishness expresses itself.
I don't know. Feels like a partial explanation to me.

Seeds of Friendship
Tumblr media
Summary: You're on Bob duty while the rest of the team is away.
Pairings: Robert Reynolds x fem!reader
Genre: Fluff
Word Count: 1.8k
Warnings: Spoilers for Thunderbolts*!! Read at your own risk.
A/N: My first Bob fic! I would love more requests for Bob or any of the Thunderbolts*!
From the moment Valentina announced you all as The New Avengers, you drew the line at calling it The Watch Tower. It felt disrespectful to the family you had spent so many years with inside its walls. Val had done a real number on the building. What was once a vibrant hub of ingenuity was now a sterile shell of its former self.
You weren't a full-time member of the original team; more like an independent variable they called when they needed your specific skill set. Tony dubbed you Nature’s Fury because of your ability to control the elements, summoning storms or conjuring walls of fire. So, when Bucky called you in a hushed whisper from his Congressional office in D.C. and said he needed your help tracking down a group of rogue misfits, you didn't hesitate.
Nonetheless, now was not the moment to get lost on memory lane; you were on Bob duty. The team had collectively agreed: Bob shouldn’t be left alone. So, each of you took turns keeping him company. “It’s simple,” Yelena had said with a reassuring smile, “Just try to engage him, but if he’s not into it, check in every couple of hours.”
With the rest of the New Avengers bickering like a bunch of kids across the Tower and onto the jet, you took a deep breath and approached Bob’s bedroom door.
You gently knocked. “Robert, can I come in?”
“Sure,” came his soft response.
As you opened the door, you found Bob sprawled on his bed, engrossed in a book.
“Hey, I’m about to start a movie. Want to join me?” you asked.
“No thanks. I think I’ll stick to my book,” he answered meekly, lifting a worn copy of The Fellowship of the Ring.
“Alright, I’ll be in the common area if you need anything,” you reminded him warmly.
“Okay, thanks, Y/N.”
*^~^*
You had settled into a cozy position on the couch, the warm glow of the television casting soft light across the room. As the heartwarming story of "UP" unfolded, you felt your eyelids grow heavy. Time slipped unnoticed, and you were awoken by the gentle sounds of the Pixar credits rolling in the background. Stretching slightly, you blinked a few times, trying to shake off the lingering drowsiness.
Rubbing your eyes, you slowly sat up, startled by the sound of the kitchen cupboard closing. You turned to find Bob standing there, his oversized sweater sleeves drooping past his knuckles, looking rather sheepish.
“Sorry, Y/N. I didn't mean to wake you,” he said, nervously fidgeting with his hands. “I was just looking for something for lunch.”
“It’s all good. Let me whip us up something,” you replied, running your hand through your hair as you rose.
As you rifled through the fridge, you realized someone needed to step up grocery shopping duties—anyone but Alexi, who always seemed to get stuck in the cereal aisle waiting to be recognized from the Wheaties box.
Determined, you pulled out the ingredients for sandwiches. “What’s your pleasure?” you asked, glancing over your shoulder.
“Um, whatever you want works for me,” Bob replied softly, glancing at the floor.
“Bob,” you teased with a smirk. “You know you can actually tell me what kind of sandwich you want.”
He hesitated, then clarified, “Okay, grilled cheese, please?”
“There we go! Two grilled cheese sandwiches coming right up,” you declared with a grin.
You spread a generous layer of butter on each slice of bread and, with care and precision, layered the cheese.
“Uh, don’t you—don’t you need to turn on the stove?” Bob asked his voice a mixture of curiosity and uncertainty.
“Not necessary,” you replied, focusing your energy. A flicker of flame danced to life in your palm, toasting the bread and melting the cheese to gooey perfection in mere moments.
“Right,” Bob mumbled, remembering the surprising talents you possessed.
“So, you used to work here with the… original Avengers?” Bob asked hesitantly.
“Yeah, sometimes,” you replied, sipping your Coke. “Whenever they needed me.”
You could practically see the gears turning in Bob's head for minutes as you ate. Finally, he leaned in closer. “Can I ask you a personal question?”
“Of course,” you encouraged.
“What happened to you that you can do,” he said, gesturing with his hand in a sweeping motion, “that?”
You paused, memories flooding back after years of being buried. It had been ages since you reflected on your past.
“I’m sorry! I shouldn't have pried,” Bob stammered, realizing he might have crossed a line. “I—”
“Robert!” you interjected softly, careful not to push him away completely. You could see the uncertainty in his eyes and didn’t want him to retreat into silence. “It’s alright. I understand how strange this all must seem. I was involved in a Hydra experiment, a variation of the Winter Soldier project. That’s how I came to know Bucky. He was more than just a soldier to me; he was my mentor, guiding me through the darkness of that place. When Bucky finally managed to break free from their control, he didn’t forget me. He returned, risking everything to rescue me from the same fate that had haunted him.”
Bob’s face shifted with sympathy. “That sounds terrible.”
You nodded, surveying the once-familiar confines. “But once I found my way here, things began to shift for me. Trust me, it will happen for you, too.”
Bob averted his gaze, his voice barely above a whisper. “I hope so. I know everyone cares about me, but sometimes it’s hard to believe I belong here.”
You paused, realizing that sometimes words alone aren't enough to bridge the gap. “Come on, I want to share something with you,” you said, an encouraging smile forming on your lips.
*^~^*
Taking the elevator up, you watched Bob shift uncomfortably. Upon reaching the rooftop, your heart sank for a moment as the cranes loomed overhead, obscuring what used to be a breathtaking view of the New York City skyline. Leading him to the roof's south side, you hoped Val hadn’t managed to get her hands on everything just yet.
To your relief, you glanced over and saw the greenhouse that Pepper had lovingly installed still standing, a little oasis amidst the chaos.
“I used to spend countless afternoons up here,” you said, guiding Bob through the greenhouse's door. The familiar scent of damp earth and blooming flowers wafted over you both. I always found solace in nature, far away from the noise and hardness of concrete.”
Bob nodded, his fingers nervously twirling a lock of his tousled brown hair. “I like nature too,” he replied, his voice quiet and reflective. “When my parents would argue, and things turned… intense, I would slip outside to the garden. It was always so calm and peaceful out there.”
You continued exploring the rows of leafy plants and the vibrant colors surrounding you, pausing to hold up a small, unassuming pot that sat neglected on a shelf. Its surface was dusty and cracked, seeming empty at first glance.
“Um... it looks empty,” Bob remarked, his brow furrowing in disappointment as he peered into the pot, searching for signs of life.
With a warm and reassuring smile, you shook your head gently. “It may appear empty right now, but with a little care and nurturing, it holds the promise to thrive and transform into something beautiful.”
You waved your hand over the pot, and with a soft rustling sound, a small begonia bulb began to push its way through the rich soil, its vibrant green leaves unfurling as if reaching for the light.
“Do you see the point I’m trying to make, Robert?” you inquired, your eyes searching his for understanding.
Bob raised an eyebrow, a hint of curiosity creeping into his expression. “That we’re both just sad little bulbs too afraid to emerge from the shadows of our rooms?” he suggested, a weary smile playing on his lips.
You shook your head, your thoughts swirling as you tried to articulate your feelings more clearly. “Yes! Wait, no, that’s not it,” you corrected yourself, your hands gesturing animatedly. “We may be shy and feel out of place in this world, but if we allow others to help us, we can find our way through this darkness and be okay.”
“Okay, yeah. That makes more sense,” Bob replied with a warm, infectious smile that lit up his face. He tilted his head slightly as he looked at the vibrant begonia in his hands, its rich green leaves and delicate pink blooms swaying gently. “Do you think anyone would mind if I put this in my room?” he asked, a hint of uncertainty in his voice.
“I don't think they would mind at all,” you reassured him, gently reaching out to grasp his hand.
At that moment, the serene atmosphere of the greenhouse was interrupted as the building trembled slightly. The familiar hum of a jet gently echoed in the distance, growing louder as it approached. You stepped outside, feeling a playful breeze tousle your hair while the jet descended gracefully onto the landing pad nearby.
Standing there with Bob, the pot cradled carefully in his arms; you watched as the team emerged from the aircraft, one by one.
“Hey, Bobby! Nice flower!” John called out playfully, a teasing glint in his eyes as he pointed at the begonia.
Ava, standing beside him, shot him a playful shove. “Stuff it, Walker,” she retorted, her tone light-hearted yet protective. “It’s pretty.”
“I see you two visited the greenhouse,” Bucky observed.
“Yeah, I’m going to put this flower in my room,” Bob declared proudly, a newfound confidence shining through his voice.
“That is wonderful Бобик (Bob),” Alexi boomed, his deep voice reverberating as he patted the young man's back with a hearty thump, causing him to stumble forward. “The tower could use more color,” he added, guiding Bob back toward the entrance with a hand on his shoulder.
Yelena stood nearby; her eyebrow arched skeptically as she looked between you and Bob. “You brought him up to the roof?” she asked her tone a mix of curiosity and caution.
“I was going for a metaphor,” you explained, the words spilling out sheepishly, an apologetic smile gracing your lips.
“Alright,” Yelena agreed after a moment of consideration. “As long as he doesn't fall off,” she added, a flicker of affection for Bob dancing in her eyes.
You took one last look at Bob as he engaged with the rest of the team, his face lighting up with every interaction. A smile crept onto your face. “He’s going to be just fine,” you thought, feeling a surge of hope for the young man who had found his place among you.

omg i love you head cannons a lot!! im actually thinking about logan being a dad to ur child?? i mean what is he like about a toddler.. does he even play with them (like lifting them up or making their child be on a cardboard box while he pushes it like the speed of a car???) 😣
DAD LOGAN DAD LOGAN YES
Origins Logan -
Oh man he would be the cutest father. He loves coming home from work and seeing you and his kid waiting for him. You're outside reading while your kid plays in the yard and logan rolls up and he just smiles when his son runs up to him and starts blabbing about his day. Okay I am a girl dad Logan truth BUT for some reason I think origins Logan would have a son. Idk why. His kid would be a mini me, dressing like Logan and wanting to be just like his dad. It's soo freaking cute. Oo I can imagine that Logan brings your kid to work one day and Logan is a caring father and carries him around but he's still Logan so he's like yeah I'll give my kid an axe what could go wrong. Its just a lot of cuteness overload tbh.
Trilogy Logan -
He swears up and down he's not good with kids but he's really a natural. There's a reason he's one of the kids favorite professors. Now this Logan has a baby girl. He's still the big bad wolverine but now he's got his little red who has him wrapped around her little fingers. Like he's a tough "i don't fucking care" grader and lets the students do stupid shit in the danger room and then he sees his little girl and scoops her up in his arms and lets her watch. He'll point at like an injured student and ask her if she knows what an open wound is. Like Logan she's 5 chill out. She's like his little shadow. Its really cute but sometimes he does wanna smoke and he can't do that around her so he just picks her up and hands her to Aunt Ro for a second. He can have a temper but tries not to ever get mad at her. But she has seen him angry at someone else and one time she scowled and copied Logan while he was being snarky with Scott and oh my god her face scrunched up just like his and Logan forgot what he was even mad about in the first place as he coos at his baby girl.
DOFP Logan -
He's the best dad omg. He's teaching a history lesson when his little girl walks into the room, she's peaking her head into the door because she wants to watch her dad work. You're standing behind her and whispering for her to be quiet. Of course he notices, he heard you before you could even walk down the hall. He stops his lesson to bring his baby girl into the classroom and spends the rest his class with her on his hip teaching his class. The students loveeee her. She's basically their niece. Logan is hesitant to let them babysit or watch over her but he will let her sit in Jubilee's lap during class. He is the kind of dad to toss her up into the air super high to make her laugh and makes you incredibly nervous. He's the best damn dad and you'll see him grading papers with her asleep on his shoulder. It's just so fucking cute.
Old Man Logan -
He's pretty out of his depth here but he tries. I think he's not super affectionate at times because he's just so nervous. He's also a girl dad I don't make the rules. Like he loves her and will always take care of her but when she's crying he gets so worried that he lets you handle that. He's there but he's just so afraid. I think the breakthrough comes when you're out with Laura for a girls trip (you know making sure she knows you don't love her any less) and he's watching his girl when she just starts crying, like sobbing crying. She fell and hit her chin really hard and without thinking logan picks her up and hugs her tight, his big rough hands gently checking out her chin and making sure she's not seriously hurt. She just melts right into his embrace and seeks his comfort. She's not afraid of him. You come home to her curled up on his chest watching some disney movie. He cracks a smile and you feel your heart overflow with happiness. Laura sits next to him and you sit on the other side. Old Man Logan is kind of a hardass but he shows his love in other ways. Like your daughter will say she doesn't want to eat her veggies and logan just says tough shit but lets her leave after just eating one and he if she asks for a new stuffed animal Logan says no but comes home with a cute bear.
Worst Logan -
He's a natural and he doesn't even realize it. He has the same worries and doubts as Old man logan but he's more affectionate. Also a girl dad idc. He's constantly holding her low key or around her. He refuses to ever let Wade babysit. Fuck no. He covers her ears when Wade says something vulgar or swears and he threatens to turn him into a kabob. He is afraid of scaring her with his nightmares or just lashing out because and saying something horrible to her but his natural paternal instincts come out in full force. Oh loves putting her on his shoulders and pretending to drop her. She clings onto him like a koala. He's not great with the more emotional moments so he tends to leave those to you. But if he does know in the back of his mind that he has three claws ready for whatever poor soul decides to try and date his daughter. Part of his new life becoming a dad and he does everything he can do be good at it. He may falter in some places, arguments or being too protective but its all from a place of love and they always make up by the end of the day.

Okay Marvel. I see your New Avengers carrying the shadows of the old, but I must disagree about the reflection choices.
Tumblr media
Bear in mind, I’m only comparing powers to a certain extent, because let’s face it—every single one of them (except for Bob) is nowhere near on the same level of power as the Original 6. What I raise you is the personality and function they serve as team members. That being said…
Yelena = Natasha
Bucky = Steve
This is easy. Both of them have dealt with some level of “carrying the mantle”. Yelena is Natasha’s sister—the one she was fighting for, her Red Room counterpart in skill set and in struggle. They are the heart of the team… but Yelena has the opportunity to step into a role of leadership. When Steve went back in time, left two legacies: Captain America and Steve Rogers (Sam and Bucky, respectively). Yeah, Bucky is resident “old man”, but he also is learning to lead as well as act as counsel and support, just like Steve did for the OGs.
I also will agree with them that
Ava = Clint
Both underdogs, both with unique and under appreciated skill sets—but Ava is starting to get more notice and appreciation from her team. There’s also the fun dynamic with her and Yelena that calls back to Nat and Clint’s friendship.
Now, here’s where things get different.
Bob = Bruce
Now this is definitely more of a power comparison, but because of how much their personalities/temperaments affect their powers, I think it’s a fair side by side. If it were up to them, they’d both just be hanging out as the resident chill guys, trying to keep everyone else alive. But unfortunately they are both sad little guys with big scary monsters inside of them that are begging to come out. Already we’ve had jokes about getting Bob to unleash the Void at will, just like Bruce and the Hulk. Plus, of course, you have the electric friendships with Yelena/Natasha as the one’s who are able to calm and comfort them, and see them for their true selves.
Alexei = Thor
I cannot be the only one who saw the end credits scene and thought that if Thor understood marketing on any level, he would have been the one thrilled about the Wheaties. He loved being adored—just look at the scene with him and Loki on earth during Ragnarok! Both Alexei and Thor are the resident protective dad/golden retriever characters, who bring the joy and enthusiasm to each mission—which is why it’s more poignant when they endure struggle. And of course there is the ego factor lol
Speaking of egos…
John = Tony
Now I’ll admit that I’m not the biggest fan of John, but I went through the same thing with Tony for the first few movies. Both of them are just a tad insufferable until they finally start to wake up and remember they aren’t the only people who’s lives have sucked. They’re the best in their respective fields, until someone bigger came along and gave them a reality check. But if John continues the way he has been, I think he has the potential to serve people well the same way Tony did. And of course the John/Bucky rivalry doesn’t hurt the comparison.
Anyways, those are my takes. I’ll never compare Valentina to Fury because she doesn’t deserve the respect, but Mel is Maria Hill and I stand by that.

Hi! I have this idea of reader trying to get Bob to watch a horror movie and him being kind of hesitant because maybe he's scared or horror just isn't his thing idk. But eventually reader convinces him and it ends up being cute and funny.
movie night :)
bob x reader
summary- Bob doesn't really want to watch a scary movie, but he'll do anything if it means spending the evening with you
tags- thunderbolts* spoilers, sort of established relationship, holding hands, kiss, thunder/lightning, Void mention
word count- 1176
notes- yayyy i love getting requests, plz keep sending them in you guys
Bob feels sort of silly about how much this movie is getting to him. It's not really the kind of thing he usually watches, but of course he'd watch anything that you want to watch. Yeah, he almost didn't, but he eventually agreed to this. He will take any and every opportunity to spend some time with you.
The two of you have gone out a bunch of times... or at least, Bob is pretty sure that's what happened. It's not always clear what really counts as "going out", but you've gotten plenty of meals together, seen a few different movies and plays, and Bob almost always tags along when you go to the grocery store. He loves hanging out with you, no matter what you're doing. You have a really comforting presence to him.
This afternoon in particular, it's pouring rain, and it has been all day. The tower isn't filled with that same lovely natural lighting it usually is, but it's still beautiful in a way. You lit a few candles to add to the very important vibe. Bucky is convinced you're going to forget to blow them out and burn the place down.
The group is just taking a lazy day, and everyone's hanging out in their own rooms, except for you and Bob in the living room. You were doing a jigsaw puzzle to pass the time when you suggested watching a scary movie.
Bob was sort of hesitant at first and you practically had to beg him. "Oh come on, please," you had said, trying to pout to look extra sad, but you couldn't stop giggling at how ridiculous you knew you looked in that moment.
Bob kept shaking his head and softly laughing, too. "Nuh uh. I really don't do scary movies". He was trying to make it sound less cowardly than it was, but he was definitely worried that the movie would be too much for him.
"Come on, Bob," you said in almost a singsong kind of way, "It's dark and scary and stormy out... It's the perfect time for this kind of thing."
The idea of curling up under a big blanket with you in the dark was definitely enticing, but he still wasn't sure.
"Hey, hey. I'm just messing around," you tell him, smiling and gesturing at the puzzle, "I really don't mind if this isn't your thing. We can keep doing this." You were always so nice to him. You got him to do things that were out of his comfort zone, but you never forced him to do anything if he really didn't want to. You'd always just tell him it was fine with that warm, comforting smile. You could probably convince him to do anything when you looked at him like that, even if you weren't trying to...
"You know what? Sure."
"Yay!!"
Now you're sitting on the couch together and watching some obscure horror movie he'd never ever heard of. You told him it wasn't that scary, and now Bob's wondering what you do consider scary because goodness-
Bob is so on edge, and the conditions outside aren't helping. Since you originally sat down to watch the movie, day has turned into night, and so the only light in the room is coming from the tv screen and the candles. The weather is somehow getting even worse, with huge cracks of lightning lighting up the dark sky every minute or so, and then you both jump at the ensuing thunder every. single. time.
You subtly glance over at Bob. He really is such a sweetheart. The man is bulletproof. You watched him tear Bucky's vibranium arm off and then proceed to turn into a vicious physical manifestation of darkness that engulfed New York City. Now, he's wrapped up in a blanket, grimacing at all the cheesy fake blood and gore on screen. Occasionally, he jumps and sends his popcorn flying up just a little, almost comically.
He's a cool guy and he wasn't kidding: these kinds of movies are really not his thing.
He catches you looking at him, and he turns hesitantly to meet your gaze. "What is it?"
"Nothing, it's just... I... hope you've had as good a day today as I have, hanging out with you."
Bob practically glows when he hears you say that, but he wants to play it cool. He tries to look back and forth between you and the movie, trying to show you that he cares about this thing you care about.
"Thanks. I really did have a good day. To be honest, I like ... I like doing stuff with you," he says with a shy smile.
Before you can say anything in response to his sweet words, there's another loud sound from the movie, and Bob instinctively reaches for your hand. Neither of you make any move to pull away from the small embrace.
"Hey Bob," you say, playfully smirking at him, "Are you scared?"
It's barely even a question. Of course he is.
"Well I guess it is a little much, I mean I uh- I like the story I guess, and I know it's all fake but it is freaking me out a little..." he starts to ramble, but you gently squeeze his hand and that's enough to pull him back into the moment. He trails off and you lean a little closer.
Looking right into his eyes, you quietly suggest, "Well maybe don't look at the movie anymore."
Bob notices your eyes fall down to his lips, and he knows what you're thinking. He leans just a tiny bit closer and stops so that, if he had somehow misread this, you'd have the opportunity to cut him off right then and there. Of course, he didn't and you don't.
Right as your lips are about to touch, the loud thunder startles you both and you stop short. He expects you to pull away and move on, like how the characters always seem to do in every cliche movie he's ever seen, (not unlike the one you're watching now), but of course that's silly. You just laugh quietly and lean back in to give him a proper kiss.
After that, you lean on Bob's shoulder and, in spite of the awful loud screaming and tense music blaring from the tv, you both fall asleep. You may have missed the last 20 minutes of the movie, but you got what you wanted tonight. You got to play into the fun, creepy vibe of the evening, you got Bob to spend an hour and a half with you, and you got a kiss. Bob's happy, too, because it is now abundantly clear what the nature of your relationship is.
Bucky was right; you absolutely did forget about all those candles you lit. He ends up walking around the tower and blowing them out himself. When he finds you and Bob on the couch, fast asleep in each other's arms, he just smiles to himself, turns the tv off, and goes right to bed.

i decided to read through the discarded concepts of ninjago seasons on the wiki and IM FILLED WITH RAGE!!
They had SO MANY good concepts THAT WERE COMPLETELY DISCARDED!
JAY'S MOM LIBBY BEING IN PRIME EMPIRE??? THE GAME BEING POWERED BY HER??? THAT WOULD'VE BEEN AN AMAZING REVEAL???? LIKE????
THE ORIGINAL ENDING OF S7???? AGAIN HELLO???? THEY COMPLETELY IGNORE THE EXISTENCE OF THE TIME TWINS NOW PROBABLY BECAUSE WE WOUDL'VE GOTTEN AN ANSWER BY THE END OF THE SEASON, WHERE THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN DEFEATED 40 YEARS LATER BUT NOOOOOOO
ALSO, S15 BEING "SPIDER-THEMED" CAUSE HARUMI WOULD'VE BEEN A SPIDER LIKE CYBORG???? LIKE A JOROGUMO FROM JAPANESE MYTHOLOGY BUT WITH A TECH TWIST???? THATS JUST SO FUCKING COOL????? LIKE???? WHY NOT DUDE THAT SHIT WOULD BE TERRIFYING AND AMAZING
ALSO UNRELATED TO PREVIOUS BUT KAI WOULD BECOME A LAVA MONSTER WHEN ANGRY???????? ALSO ALIEN THEMED SEASON? AND OLD WEST THEMED SEASON??? CHRISTMAS SHORTS???? A HIGH SCHOOL SEASON AS WELL IN A NINJA SCHOOL??? (we at least got a bit of it with the movie though so i won't complain as much)
WE COULD'VE GOTTEN A SEASON OF SKYLOR, PIX AND NYA AS LEADS!!! THE THREE OF THEM!!!! I WOULD LOVE IF SKYLOR WAS IN THE MAIN TEAM TOO!!
I LOVE WHAT WE GOT IN THE END BUT OMGGGGGGG THE DISCARDED STUFF IS G O L D AND YOU CANT CHANGE MY MIND ABOUT THAT!!

Why do you choose to ship sammick? Genuine question like what do u like about this ship?
hmm i dont really choose to ship them, just like with other ships from other fandoms, i just let myself feel and draw anything i gravitate towards.
i can list why i like sammick tho:
i already liked Sammie the first time i saw the trailer (he just got that perfect cute protagonist face that im drawn to, this one i dont know how to explain lol) so he was always going to be my fandom bicycle from the get go.
Remmick. Funny guy, weird guy, creepy guy, very VERY interesting. i didnt expect much from him at first, i was ready to just enjoy a simple vampire hunting flick. it was already a plus that he wasn't just a simple klan-level racist white guy who happened to be a vampire, yet he ended up so much more than that. His character and lore are meant to be speculated and theorized, and big part on why we had that peek into his origin is because of Sammie!
Sammie IS the target, Sammie IS the plot, and the plot's big bad monster Remmick wants him BAD. even if you dont ship them, it's undeniable that this predator/prey dynamic is the key to the movie. We had a close up on Remmick's grinning face when he heard Sammie in the joint for god's sake, the movie WANTED you to get that Remmick did all of that insanity in Sinners because he wanted to get Sammie.
the fact that Sammie, a young black man (hes pretty and beautfiul as a wife to me but hes still a man) in jim crow era gets the special horror female protagonist treatment (being gifted and coveted by terrible monster for it) is just doing it for me.
vampires??? the default sensual monster everybody and their grandma love? (i didnt before Sinners but thats beside the point) how it lends itself perfectly to oral fixation?? making it even more sensual?? also usually have uncomfortable sexual power/manipulation over their victims? vampies?
I always love toxic or even straight up noncon ships. this isn't my first rodeo or even the "worst" one (see: thramsay) and sammick checks all the list effortlessly. im not trying to make sammick to be consensual, fluffy ship at all-- that takes all the spices on what makes this ship interesting! so maybe for someone who usually like romantically "unproblematic" ships, it doesn't make sense to them that someone would love sammick. but if you treat shipping also as exploration of taboo personal fears like i do, sammick is very interesting and a very healthy outlet to explore those things safely. it's free for all sandbox in fictional realm baby!

seeing a lot of talk about everyone wanting 70s/80s fashion for everybody in the sotr movie but one thing i think y'all have to consider is the fact that in district 12 fashion moves muuuuch slower.
yes, tbosas was influenced by silhouettes of the 40s and 50s (which i love and i think it will always remain my favorite hunger games costumes) but when you think back to the districts it's much more location-inspired still and looks very similar to the way the district people dress in the original trilogy. the capitol fashion is what changes and evolves at the speed of light, because it's reflective of the real world, people who can afford to trend-hop are the ones who dress in the most current styles. but the covey, the kids from the seam, etc., they have their own distinct timeless sense of style. the most 40s-esque d12 style i can think of in tbosas is mayfair's outfits, especially her reaping day outfit- and even then, it's actually more 1930s than 40s in a way, showing that even though she's possibly the richest girl in town, district 12 as a whole is still poor and behind on the trends.
so i hate to burst everybody's bubble with their dreams of lenore dove and haymitch in 80s mall kid outfits but you gotta remember the economic disparity in panem. but at least we'll probably see drusilla in some incredible anne klein working woman 80s inspired getup !

Thunderbolts*
Tumblr media
I'm so glad a Marvel movie is good again. I've been tapped out since Endgame and Spider-Man: No Way Home, and it's just nice to watch the thing I like entertain me.
The Thunderbolts: a ragtag team of misfits, moreso than even the Avengers, all sent on a mission where they turn out to have a lot more in common than they think, and also be in way over their heads.
First some negatives, because even though I enjoyed this movie there are some problems. Namely: Bucky and Ghost aren't really given anything to do in this movie, and are just kinda along for the ride. Taskmaster isn't in the movie very much, and it's a little disappointment to not have them for long or give them a second chance.
But man, what a cast! And what a fun plot. A lot happens and it's hard to remember it takes place over less than 24 hours because you get so endeared to these utter assholes. Yelena is the standout here, where it feels like this is almost her movie, and Red Guardian and US Agent are both excellent supporting characters in the central theme of depression.
Speaking of: Robert "Bob" Reynolds AKA Sentry AKA (spoilers?) the Void. What a fun, dynamic new character! Everything about him, from his introduction to his powers to his turn as a villain was perfectly executed, especially his design as the Void.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's hard to compare the two, and it almost falls into the trap of giant cloud adaptation, like Galactus in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer or Parallax in Green Lantern (2011), but I hold it as a much better version of that trope. Because of course the comic-accurate Void is a mess of limbs and proportions that would be a nightmare to animate, so while the Void in Thunderbolts* is technically a lot simpler, I think it works because
The rest of the execution is good, so it is bolstered by its constituent parts.
Their own design is highly creative; that's not him being shadowed by the sun, that's just a black void where a person should be. You only ever see his eyes or (in one notably terrifying scene) his teeth.
If I may offer one complaint that makes this movie merely a fun treat rather than a delectable meal, it would be the surface-level treatment of depression. As someone who suffers from it (and of course I do, I'm on Tumblr) there's a nature to the hole in your heart that the movie doesn't quite grok.
There's scenes that feel familiar (Yelena, going through the motions; Red Guardian, drowning in alcohol and nostalgia; Walker, desperately trying to earn approval; the self-medicating, the self-loathing) that's touched on and brought to the forefront. I was also touched by the final resolution of the Void plot being a lot more about empathy and understanding than it was about fighting, which I appreciated. And the core thesis that spending time with people you love and helping other people will help alleviate symptoms.
But it is very surface level, or entry-level might be more accurate. All the characters are people who haven't been taking care of themselves who now have to figure out what their own mental health has to look like. It's Hollywood's obsession with origin stories: everyone wants the bold beginning, but the muddy middle makes for a complicated conclusion. I just hope these characters retain these flaws and struggles in the future and we get to see their good days and their bad days.
All in all: I had a lot of fun. The parts that were good were rarely great, but nothing felt bad.
(also: you can make a fun game by watching the way this movie dances around political lines. John Walker is a case in himself about how removing the conservative angle from his politics kinda weakens the nature of his character as a whole, but there's a number of times in this movie where politics are discussed and the movie very clearly goes out of its way to not say Republicans or Democrats. It's hilarious)

You know.
When The Hobbit trilogy came out, there were people who HATED it. H A T E D it. You couldn't talk about the movies without someone getting up in arms because "they weren't like the original trilogy" or "it was a studio cash grab" or any number of story reasons - and don't get me started on the toxic shit about Tauriel. (does any of this sound familiar?)
I used to get sent youtube "takedowns" by (men, usually) people who found out I really love the movies, and wanted to convince me I was wrong. They needed me to know that the trilogy was a blight on the fantasy genre, on Tolkien (even though they hadn't read any of his work in ages) and on movies in general. It's a little insane to think about now, because 10 years later we have a few very vocal creators out there who embrace all the current Tolkien media we have on offer, and do their best to continue fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment while spilling Tolkien lore for everyone to enjoy.
Which feels like rather the point. I don't like Rings of Power, personally, but a lot of people watched it and were excited about it, and creators are able to reach people and say "Hey, so you know this character? Let's talk about them using Tolkien's texts."
And I wish that was happening with Veilguard. I wish the people who were so absolutely incensed about it could take five minutes and listen to the folks who are more than happy to talk about lore all day long. I really think if y'all just took a minute to read about this game from people who really love it, and why they love it, you'd come away with a different perspective.
A few years ago, I think on Twitter, someone asked: what did everyone actually like about the Hobbit movies? They wanted positivity. Yes, the movies had issues, and yes, Martin Freeman is kind of terrible IRL, but also there was an entire rest of the cast who told a There and Back Again story. People began to post all of the little moments that meant something to them. There were a lot. I hope it helped any onlookers to see that thread, so they could see the movies in a different light.
My personal favorite is the retooling of Elrond's sentiments from The Council of Elrond, turned into something gentle and earnest coming from Gandalf:
"Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I have found it is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay... simple acts of kindness and love."

NO MY ANON IS GONE, I’m too shy for this 😔 but anywho I was the person who originally suggested VenomSpiderMan!Reader and I’m low-key so happy that I’ve been able to infect other people with my brain worms, something about Spiders with the Venom Symbiote scratches my brain just right. Honestly I can really see the aggression becoming a big problem for Cecil, not in like an ‘oh shit we gotta do something about this right now’ kind of way, like something he has to constantly monitor, he needs to make sure they’re getting fed and that no one is getting hurt when they do, which would mean that if they go a few weeks, just fighting Viltrumites, not getting to eat any of them (which honestly would probably only happen if Viltrum only pit them against pure blood Viltrumites or just the strong ones in general IDC Reader CAN take on weaker Viltrumites no diff with the Symbiote) then Cecil would probably have to go to the trouble of getting fresh bodies for them, lest they eat the next petty thief they see. I don’t remember if it’s actually canon or just an idea my head cooked up, but also imagine if the Symbiote has to eat more when it helps heal the Reader, then Cecil would have to be on standby with the bodies after every big fight (morbid, I know 😨). I like to imagine the Symbiote is just as intelligent as the reader, since we know pretty much all Spiders are literal geniuses (Every Peter, Miles, Hobie), and since they’re both so intelligent, it makes it incredibly easy to bounce plans and strategies off each other while mid combat, they figure out what will work quicker than just the Reader or symbiote would and point out any holes in the others’ plan that may have been overlooked. Even if the things the Symbiote sometimes suggests are morally dubious. The Symbiote would also 100% get super attached to the Reader, the way it acts like it’s a breakup when it gets separated from Peter in several versions of Spider-Man? The entire venom movies? The Reader probably gets attached as well, hard not to when you basically share a body and it saves your life constantly. The Symbiote doesn’t care about other humans that much, outside of their worth to its own species, but it does care about the Reader, so if they want to save some worthless lives, it’ll help, it’ll even eat a corpse that is a little bit too old for it’s taste just so that they can keep their ‘morals’ and the Reader doesn’t like how immoral it can be, but they still change all of the candles in their house to those imitation ones (for power outages, which I imagine get increasingly common under Viltrumite rule) and wax melts (for scent) and they’ll start to work on frequency blockers, swearing up and down that it’s for the good of their missions. It’s totally NOT because they can no longer stand to see their companion in genuine pain. What are you even saying? That’s literally a space alien that low-key thinks of humans as food. 1/2
SORRRYYY SOME PEOPLE WERE BEING WEIRD N RUDE TO ME IN ANONS SO I REMOVED IT (it will be back soon tho!)
but omg haiiii i love ur venom symbiote suggestion mwah
YES I TOTALLY SEE CECIL BEING CONSTANTLY CONCERNED FOR THEM,, keeping them fed n everything 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️ i think maybe he uses some of the dead bodies that they’d use to make reanimen to feed venom!reader
VENOM SYMBIOTE BEING EMOTIONALLY AND PHYSICALLY ATTACHED TO READER AND VICE VERSA AAAAAAAA
i love that they have like a genuine relationship, to the point where the symbiote follows readers morals just to make them happy😭

✨oc tag game: modern au edition✨
anyone remember that thing that was going around over a month ago? well, I did it. thank you so much for the tags @verbenaa @eraserspiral @hellethil @xxnashiraxx and @khywren 🧡
this is specifically about Eve in my AU, since that's the version of her that has been living rent-free in my brain for the past three months. I made some alterations to the questions bc of that
here is a picrew approximation of what she looks like:
Tumblr media
general
🔸name: for the past 1.5-2 years, she’s been Eve Turner. that’s the only name that matters to her
🔸alias: [classified information]
🔸gender: woman, but she doesn't feel strongly about it
🔸age: 28
🔸spoken language(s): English. she's picked up some Spanish from living with Lae'zel, but it's mostly cursewords
🔸sexual orientation: ??? usually she just says "queer" because none of the other labels fit quite right
🔸occupation: at the beginning of the fic, she's a waitress
favourites
🔸colour: the cloudy blue of Astarion's eyes. dark green and burgundy
🔸entertainment/pastime: reading (mostly memoirs or horror novels), watching movies, going on walks as she listens to podcasts by one Gale Dekarios, heckling game show contestants with Lae, doing literally anything with Astarion
🔸food: ramen
🔸drink: pepsi. in terms of alcohol, she loves her IPAs
🔸book: Gerald’s Game by Stephen King
🔸movie: Cabin in The Woods
🔸song: she has never cared much for music, but since Astarion made her a playlist, her favorite song has been Open My Door by Alice Phoebe Lou
have they…
🔸passed university: no. she considered applying but first she wanted to work for a year or two after high school to save up some money. and then she got into a relationship that, well... derailed her life.
🔸had sex: yes
🔸had sex in public: yes. not a fan though
🔸got tattoos: yes. she got a dagger tattoo on her neck when she was 20. at 26, she covered it up with a dragonfly (iykyk)
🔸got piercings: yes. she has a couple different piercings in her ear lobes
🔸got scars: yes. the most prominent is the one running down her cheek (again, iykyk)
are they…
🔸a cuddler: definitely. hasn't done it in years though
🔸scared easily: not particularly. because of her past experiences, she has become desensitized to a lot of things
🔸jealous easily: somewhat. my girl's got a fear of abandonement
🔸trustworthy: well, it depends what period of her life we're talking about. her friends now consider her trustworthy, though she would disagree
family
🔸siblings: none, to her knowledge
🔸parents: never met them
🔸children: she had a pregnancy scare once in her previous relationship and it absolutely terrified her. she has no interest in ever becoming a parent, nor does she view herself as fit for the role
I'm super late to this so I'm not going to tag anyone in particular, but if you want to do it, go ahead! and please tag me so I can see your responses!! the original tag also featured pre-game and post-game questions, so just feel free to adjust this to your needs :)

I know Star Wars is this massive cultural phenomenon, but honestly, I was never a fan. Like, I watched all the movies and some of the shows, but was never really moved by them or particularly cared that much. Every time I watched anything SW related there was a very clear message of "this is not for you". Its just so obviously targeted at men. From the first trilogy only having a handful of women have any type of speaking role, to Leia being a love interest passed around to the most popular male character, to Padme dying in childbirth from being just too sad 🙄, to everything they did to poor Rey (honestly this was fucking insane), and now to Bix and her traumatized housewife shtick. All these movies and shows have women, but the male writers cannot seem to get past their own misogyny and its constantly leaking into their writing.
Rogue One was the first time I felt even a shred of respect from this franchise. Yes, there is an insulting lack of women and entire scenes where you will have a group of people and its 100% men (Jyn is literally the only woman we see on the entire planet of Eadu. All the spies that follow Cassian are men), but Jyn was so amazing as a character that I could mostly forgive it. I cried when they showed the female pilots that were cut from the original movie (the fact that they did this originally is so unnecessarily cruel like they hate women so so much) I truly love Jyn and I think shes the best character to come out of the entirety of Star Wars. I was mad when Andor was announced because I felt that as the main character of R1 SHE is the one who deserves a show. I wanted to know more about her time as a child soldier and her life. But after watching S2 of Andor I can only feel relief that they did not get to touch her. 100% if there was a show Gilroy would have made us watch her almost get raped.
Anyway, thank you Andor S2 for reminding me that Jyn Erso was a beautiful, precious fluke, and that Star Wars is build on disrespecting women.
Tumblr media
I still think that Jyn is one of the best female Star Wars characters. Reading all the comments about the last three episodes of Andor ( and having decided to not watch them for now) just makes me want to watch Rouge one instead and then go and read some nice comforting Rebelcaptain AU!! A huge thank you to Gareth Edwards and all the talented writes on AO3 . Thank you!!
