oooh interesting take lmao. im gonna insert a courtesy "c!techno is generally a good person and does good" disclaimer bc like, c!techno is generally a good person that does good and cares about people and gets ridiculous amounts of hates for stupid things all the damn time, for the record, but also ... i cant say i dont get what you mean in part?

i think there's a phenomenon with c!techno sometimes where people can make him either too much of a paragon or strip him of too much agency in a way that's weird to me. i mean like, "he's canonically 3 years old" jokes aside, this guy isn't someone whos just doomed to be taken advantage of everyone unless they "respect his boundaries 🥺🙏" and can't assert himself at all and whatever, yknow? like, he can AND DOES assert himself when he thinks it's necessary. he can AND DOES act like an asshole sometimes!

like c!techno is a full, well-rounded character. he gets too angry sometimes and does shit he regrets. he has to make efforts to change. he has feelings, he gets hurt, he lashes out. he's too dismissive sometimes because he copes with shit through humor. he isn't perfect, and that's ... a good thing? it's a good thing that he's a full well rounded interesting character with flaws. but at the same time, pointing out said flaws and treating them as flaws isn't damnation!

like, for example, right, it's perfectly understandable for him to feel used and betrayed by c!tommy. was he also kinda mean to c!tommy in the aftermath in a way that can be pointed out? i mean. yeah of course! and like, of course he was grieving and hurt and in a lot of emotional pain when c!ranboo died and did that probably play into his attitude towards c!dream post-prison break? absolutely! was stripping a guy that is literally being chased down by his literal torturers and a server of people who want to kill him of his armor and telling him he can keep a weapon For A Favor and then going "awwh we didnt get him to use his necromancy powers :/" absolutely still kind of a generally asshole-y thing to do? i mean, YEAH ???? like, if they werent doing that bc of some kind of plan, that was still kind of a jerk thing to do? in a way that's very understandable, because c!techno is a character that becomes more of a jerk when he's stressed and in emotional turmoil. and this isnt about damning him or condemning him ... but i don't see the point of erasing said moments either.

shrug anyway i think c!techno overall was a pretty damn nice dude and a good guy and im kind of trusting that u dont mean this in the same way as certain c!techno takes ive seen back in the day that felt like crucifying him every time he made a joke that broke the fourth wall aSKFJLasf. c!techno should've been meaner, actually, for the record. and it's so awesome that he put c!sam in a prison and cask of amontillado'd that guy, GOD BLESS

u know my biggest gripe with reboot mw3?? the fact that both shepherd AND graves came back for literally no reason... the "jokes on you... i was never there to begin with!!!" trope they pulled with graves is already annoying but then he didn't really do anything LMAO (the most he did was create tension between farah and price and they didn't delve into that like at all other than one conversation that lasted all of three minutes if that)

at least shepherd had potential to be an interesting party in this game but then again they goofed up his part in the story too because he isn't integrated into anything worthwhile

just. man. they goofed this story up HARD there was so much potential for the story to be good but then they shoved three games worth of story into a 3 hour campaign

Yeah Graves and Shepherd were dummy grenades at best. Neither of them paid off as secondary antagonists. This game desperately needed to be two separate games, each twice the length, in which first Shepherd and the Shadows could be dealt with and then Makarov and the Ultranationalists.

IF I were rewriting mw3. Which I am not. But IF.

Makarov would show up once or twice as a prison transfer of some sort at most, MAYBE with a flashback mission to demonstrate what he was capable of at the height of his power. He was not alluded to enough in mw2 to present a credible threat—the reboot relies far too much on the original trilogy to foreshadow its plot. Why the fuck should I care about this squirrely frat bro I've never heard of? I know fuck all about the OG Makarov and I am not going to waste more of my precious time on this green earth watching three more games stuffed even more full of anti-Arab prejudice and pro-US imperialist propaganda.

I digress. Makarov's face would be shown in my mw3, but he would not be as active as he is in "canon". Instead, Shadow company, Graves, and Shepherd would take center stage as antagonists—I would utilize their alliance with the ULF to heighten the tension between Price and Farah. Shadow company would be taking advantage of the ULF's need for its support, perhaps, and meanwhile antagonizing Russian outfits on the outskirts of Urzikstan which are meant to serve as either surveillance or reconnaissance for a second invasion.

I imagine, coincidentally, those Russian outfits would be Ultranationalist in nature, because as mw3 suggests, Makarov has been scheming even in the gulag. Graves, of course, is poking the bear because war is good business for him. An Urzikstan at peace does not need a PMC for an ally. Shepherd will have been allowing it because, as has been established in 2 and 3, he's a glory-obsessed war dog whose primary priority is his own military legacy.

Interspersed would be plenty of moments for the characters to comment on what the hell is going on. Farah could reckon with Price's grudge against Graves. Gaz could further develop as Price's right hand man. Soap and Ghost could make out nasty style with tongue. Alex could continue to be the simp we all know he is. (I'd love to shoehorn Alejandro and Rudy into the plot but let's be honest, there's no room for them here. RIP vaqueros, we love you.)

All of this would CULMINATE with Makarov's escape from prison. Probably after Soap finally gets to set Graves on fire for real he would roll up with his hundred dollar haircut, call everyone stupid, and then Urzikstan would go right back to war because that's how this shit works. Russia and the US get into constant pissing matches and the Middle East serves as the convenient battleground.

All of the antagonizing Graves and Shadow Company have done would serve to galvanize a Russian public against the US, positioning Makarov as its very own Churchill and imbuing him with phenomenal cosmic power. Bada bing, bada boom, WWIII. Perfect scene-setting for MW4.

I maintain that if anyone has to die it will be Price. Price is the only one with the charisma to go toe-to-toe with Makarov from a leadership standpoint, so he has to go if we really want the stakes to feel high. In the VERY end, after 4 and whatever games follow it, Gaz would be the only man left standing of the 141. Having finally learned the kind of price that must be paid when the gloves come off.

Again. Blizzard-Activision. Pay me eight billion dollars and I will fix your games.

I'm currently reading Plague 12.8 of Worm.

Man, the Slaughterhouse Nine are some ruthless, cold-blooded people. They're what fictional villains should be: terrifying. And their lack of a conscience makes them so much worse. Like, how can Shatterbird even do what she did? Shatter every glass in a city full of innocent people, wounding them or killing them? So brutal, and evil. The good thing about that is that I can take her and the other S9 members seriously as villains. They're genuinely scary. BTW, Bonesaw is annoying to me, though. I would like it better if she didn't have that stupid goofy, childish personality. I guess it's supposed to be uncanny because of the contrast of how violent she is, but it annoys me instead of terrifying me.

Jack Slash hurt Tattletale. Now you've gone too far, JS. She's my favorite character in Worm. I wonder if she will finally reveal her backstory soon, something I've already spoiled a bit for a myself at some point before starting this proper, chronological order read of Worm. On the bright side, it's good that Jack has hurt someone. Now we have even more proof that the S9's violent reputation is real. Their leader just cut a teenage girl's face just because she revealed something that he wanted to reveal first. Jack doing that isn't a surprise, though. After all, in his introduction chapter, he throws a baby at her brother. That made it pretty clear that Jack is a monster, if the S9's reputation wasn't enough proof.

I still want to see Crawler.

Also, before Shatterbird appeared in Hookwolf's chapter, I thought her power of shattering glass was the only thing she could do. But no, she also controls glass. Can do things like move it around. That makes her even more of a threat.

Mannequin is horrifying. It doesn't help that I've got a doll and mannequin phobia. And the body horror aspect of Mannequin only unsettles me more. Someone being able to turn themselves into a mannequin, with much of their flesh and blood missing, is hard for me to comprehend. Mannequin doesn't even have eyes. Even if someone could survive having their body modified in the way Mannequin did to himself, who would screw their body up that drastically? What Mannequin did to himself is worse than what happens when someone's face gets ruined by botched plastic surgery. The dude practically isn't even human anymore.

I did like how Taylor insulted him to try forcing him to attack her instead of that woman and her son. Mannequin wanted to kill those two and he wasn't going to let a stupid insult get in the way of that. A less scary villain would have gotten offended and turned his attention back to Taylor, falling for the bait. And the fact that Mannequin can't speak makes him scarier. The funny thing is that I feel more fear whenever he shows up than I did when Leviathan did. Maybe because there were a lot of capes fighting him, and it was easier for a single cape to survive, because there were so many of them. When Taylor fought Mannequin, all of his focus was on her. And there were no other capes to provide backup.

And a few people in the comments of some Worm chapters were surprised that no one has killed Jack Slash yet. They were shocked no one ever put a bullet in him, considering he's not invincible or nearly so. Well, the guy clearly knows how to pick his battles. You see how he went to Purity's home when he knew she might be too weak to kill him with her power. Plus he has Siberian as a deterrent, which he used to his advantage when he confronted Taylor and the other Undersiders. A lot of the time preventing your death is all about taking precautions. Jack isn't one of those villains in badly written novels where the bad guys get defeated because they don't use their brains. Jack is genuinely clever. Not being invincible doesn't mean you can't be unstoppable.

The S9 are well-written villains. And their introduction chapters show how menacing they are, and that they're a threat to be taken seriously. They give a great, villainous first impression. Wildbow is doing a good job writing them.

I'm really loving this arc. The stakes in Worm get higher and higher, which is a sign of good writing.

Once again, Thank You. And before anyone comes at us sideways about Adrian's dreamwalking and him not accepting No from Rose. Remember, he completely stopped when Rose put her foot down about it. So once again, he doesn't push boundaries. He checked on her because he was rightly concerned. And his suspension was correct. Adrian doesn't push past what he knows about that individual person. He knew Rose was freaking out more than anything else with his dreamwalking. Cause when Sydney asked him to not do it, he stopped and didn't do it to Sydney again. Until she was in danger.

That's why I went on my rant, cause the excuses to hate on Adrian and continued hate when they haven't read past the first book. Were not strong at all but then in the same breath, just make Dimitri's age look like a super light thing. Just no, realistically, if Rose was in college she would meet Adrian as a fellow peer. While although she might meet Dimitri, it would still be with a power imbalance. Taking one thing lightly just to justify not wanting to look deeper into a character isn't okay.

Exactly. He's very good at backing off when he knows someone is serious. The same happened with Daniella in Bloodlines too when she was in Tarasov and he tried pulling her into spirit dreams but she didn't want him seeing her like that or something along those lines so he didn't do it again. I think the worst that happened was the dabbling thing but we don't know the full story behind that and Adrian was a stupid teenager who no doubt was under a lot of peer pressure and no doubt under the influence of something but he clearly never did it again and was regretful over it. This just goes to show that yes he isn't perfect but he has come a very long way with his character development and I think that was why that 'random' bit was thrown in there to show that yes he does have a past and maybe to shed some light on the dark parts of Court life and how it's not as prim and luxurious as it seems. It's a place with a lot of flaws covered by beauty.

Yeah it just feels like Dimitri groomed Rose to a certain extent. I can't get over the fact that he straight up took advantage of her when spirit darkness had seeped into her that caused her to act out, she was not in the right state of mind for any decisions like that — and this was before she was 18 might I add.

Summary: All for One has had enough of his little brother's rebellious nature. He can't afford to risk his little brother's life by letting him continue this. If he has to commit cruelties to keep his brother safe, then so be it. What's one more sin on the pile?

All for One was a monster.

A man feared as an unspeakable being, a living demon that plagues the very world in a never-ending torment. At the least... That's what the government would prefer to call it.

As if they hadn't started it when they started basically allowing it to be legal in everything but name to kill Metahumans. That any whose 'powers' got a bit out of hand was to be killed and when those with power retaliated the cycle grew more chaotic. Fathers turning against sons, siblings against their kin, there were all kinds.

All he had done was take advantage of a situation they had no interest in reigning in since the beginning.

And yet... It seems his own flesh had turned against him. The younger brother who once looked at him with bright eyes full of affection had darkened with anger.

Words escalate in debates and arguments that he can't fathom that he has to keep making. And this was no different, as had been given a 'gift' as a quirk and now those eyes had become spiteful.

Then the boy tried to run away and it was time to put his foot down as the other's guardian before instead of Yoichi being a spiteful brat he ends up being a corpse.

"I assumed many things about you that even I can admit might be exaggerated but stupidity ironically wasn't one of them," All for One spoke curtly as thankfully his men had found the idiot boy. Even if he was legally an adult it was hard to take him seriously when he spouts about heroism only to make dumb decisions that put his life in danger.

"But then I guess that be acknowledging that I didn't exactly 'raise' you to be as smart as you should be," a regret but something he can't change. As he was a child raising a child, mistakes were bound to happen. It's a miracle that they were able to make it to adulthood after 'abruptly' becoming orphans, "Release him."

His little brother was silent just staring daggers at him clearly in a foul mood right now. Those green eyes peaking from underneath his hair as he watches him intently waiting to be released. Though his men clearly didn't understand as in the next second they practically threw him at All for One's feet. A sneer shows on the crime lords face as his red eyes stares his men down, "I didn't say throw him."

His voice was light but there was a slight edge to his voice as his smile turned more like he was baring his fangs as a warning. While he might be mad at his brother he isn't about to allow outsiders to cause his sibling harm. That seemed to make his men shrink back as if in an apology.

None of his men really liked Yoichi it seemed. They tolerated him because he was his brother but in their eyes, he was a parasite that leeched off All for One causing trouble and throwing a 'fit' whenever doesn't get his way.

All assumptions, but does make him worry at times that even his own men may eventually cause his brother harm. The attempts at his own life weren't exactly small and eventually he knows it will get worse. The government may not have done a direct attack but they sure put up quite a show.

"Wow you're quite roughed up," Hisashi speaks as he walks over to offer his hand to his little brother to lift him up. Of course, it was ignored likely out of his usual stubbornness for 'independence' as the male got up by himself. Seeming even more irritated then before which is understandable after being thrown onto the floor.

"Couldn't even come get me yourself? Your men weren't exactly gentle and I'm sure you know that," Yoichi speaks harshly as if his brother had ordered them to be rough with him. Hisashi has told Yoichi time and time again that they do as they wish most times. Even if he follows orders he can't control how as he is only one man. He can inspire fear so they don't go too far from his plans but they were still independent then his brother was stubborn.

"Seriously what am I supposed to do with you," Hisashi sighs not about to argue with the other on that specific subject. As he had some more important concerns, as his little brother was going to get himself killed if he was making 'escape' attempts. Some hero his little brother turned out to be he was more like a damsel in distress but then he guessed that made his older brother a dragon. "You know I'm working and can't always come to save you."

Yoichi's eyes narrowed at the implication that he was somehow a bother especially since he had been trying to run away. When really Hisashi thinks he should be thinking about it because his older brother is sick with worry and doesn't want him out of his site. Even if Hisashi would never say that at times like this he wasn't proving it wrong that possible is a slight burden.

"I can't believe you're serious. You aren't working, you are LIVING OUT some insane fantasy of being the big bad of your dream!" Yoichi spits out with a surprising amount of rage. Hisashi 's eyes narrow just a hint unable to understand why it's an issue. It provided a lot more than working at a black company or stealing off the streets with people wanting to cave your skulls.

"And your point?" Was his only response, was he supposed to deny it? Tell him, yeah I'm being a big bad for funnies and don't care about anything~!

Because that's how his brother is making him sounds like.

"....Fuck you." Yoichi answered with a sneer. Honestly, where did he learn these words? He must be hanging out with the thugs too long.

And this is exactly why they can't have a nice and relaxed conversation as his brother would get frustrated so easily. Words, reason, facts, none of it mattered to his brother at this point and Hisashi knew this day was going to come when nothing between them could be resolved. But he has to try once more before his last resort.

"Don't you care that you could die if you leave my sight? I've made a lot of enemies, the government would use you as bait to kill me. Those 'rebels' might just outright kill you, and there are tons of thugs that didn't join me yet," once more he is trying to talk to his brother's good nature. To reason that he doesn't need to go this far just to make a point.

"Maybe if you would just stop this whole power fantasy and tried to be actually a good person or even give this up all together. I wouldn't be in danger," Yoichi counters ignoring the plea. Those green eyes stared into his own eyes and Hisashi felt his anger grow now wondering how he could say that.

This child.

Any goodwill he had was thrown out the window as it seemed his brother truly only saw him as a villain. When the only one he never wished to be seen in such a way was by his little brother. He talked, he bargained but Yoichi is the only one who never cooperates with him!

Can't he see it's all to keep him safe?

"Enough! If you won't listen to reason or even be content on stepping aside then I have no choice, tie him up and gag him," he sneers watching his brother's brave expression change to shock and horror. Ha, seems his brother can act strong until his favoritism runs out.

"Wha-"Yoichi was about to speak when he was grabbed by the arm. Those lovely green eyes shifted to look at him as thrashed as if his worst nightmare was becoming a reality, "Big brother stop this! What are- LET ME GO! HAVE YOU GONE INSANE!? Please don't-"

The young man cried out but before can say anything anymore, they got the gag on him along with blindfolds for good measure. They weren't gentle as they held him too tightly, unable to hear the slight hiss and whines of pain from his brother. But he watched until his brother was unable to move though it's clear his men thought they were going to carry him.

"You've done enough, leave him on the floor and go. This is a family matter now," he makes himself very clear watching the guards tense up staring intently at him. It was very much a threat as he didn't want anyone knowing about where he was taking him. He had enough trust issues to deal with and didn't need more, watching them until they completely left the room.

"I really didn't want to resort to this Yoichi... But you've left me no choice," his voice was soft as he went to kneel down beside his brother. Moving his hand to gently brush it against the male's white locks savoring how soft it feels. His precious little brother.

He can't lose him.

"I hope you get quite aquinted in your new home," his voice was a whisper as he heard his brother protest behind the gag. Already picking him up to sling over his shoulder as the place had been made long ago and those that would know were sparse, he will be safe there.

It was quite a trip to make. Especially since they had to make sure the van didn't have explosives nor were they followed. While he had quite an array of quirks, the transportation quirks weren't reliable. This wasn't a risk he was willing to take on his brother until he was sure of its safety.

His brother certainly squirmed a lot during the whole ordeal. Thrashing and making noises but eventually, even he grew quiet. Likely tuckered out by the end which made it so much easier when they arrived to take him out to his new home. Inside of a vault that was meant to house precious treasure.

But then what is more precious than his only living family? Even if said family member is weak and bothersome.

He was still careful to place him in the bed. Making sure his body is laid first on the mattress being careful not to cause anymore bruising then it already has. Anticipating a fight with his brother the moment releases him as while the boy may not be squirming he is clearly not asleep.

As soon as he cut the rope off Yoichi's arm the younger male shot up and attempted to punch him.

Hisashi barely avoids it feeling amused at how much energy his brother has as the male nearly fell off the bed. Looking quite upset as he yanks off his gag and blinds so can finally speak all the things he likely wanted to say. Though likely the first order of business was....

"Where the HELL am I!?" The location that is more akin to a prison with a room.

Yoichi was looking around more than a bit concerned since he had just been in every sense 'kidnapped' by his older brother. As those green eyes landed on the door to a vault and his skin seemed so much paler now.

"Please, Hisashi tell me you haven't lost your mind. You can't do this to me we're supposed to be family," Yoichi's voice was smaller as he looked at his brother who seconds he tried to punch. As if realizing just how serious this situation had truly become now.

"I can and I will. Trust me, this is my last resort as you refuse to stay put and interfere constantly," It was the only way to keep him safe. To put himself at ease knowing nothing is about to end his weak brother's life because of stupidity.

"You...." There is horror, confusion, betrayal and despair in his little brother's eyes as he realizes Hisashi meant every word. "You're insane. Let me out!"

It is amazing what adrenaline and fear can do as Yoichi shot up to his feet off the bed to run. Fear was clear on his face but he wasn't fast enough, but then how could he expect to outrun a monster with powers beyond normal human capabilities?

Able to grab him with such ease as if Yoichi had barely moved, his grip tight so his brother could squirm. Finally realizing how weak he truly was.

"Awww don't say. Don't worry it is just until you behave yourself it's for your own good," Hisashi promises, finding it funny how now his brother was scared. Hoping it was a good sign that he might rethink his stupid and naive stance. To think he was some hero that can do anything with no powers or ideas.

His stupid, weak, and precious baby brother.

"Shut up! You're just the stupid persona All for One. I want my brother back the brother who loved me wouldn't imprison me!" Yoichi snapped and shoved him. Or rather attempted to but it only caused All for One to tighten his grip on the male.

So he's the villain to Yoichi's hero was he?

Not his big brother? Not his caretaker? Not Hisashi who sacrificed literally everything to make sure they didn't die in the streets?

His eyes stared into his little brothers feeling his anger grow as his grip tightened on Yoichi. Watching the male seem to shrink just a hint but still tried to hold strong and meet his gaze. His brother was a stubborn one he can at least admit that.

"So I'm the bad guy is that it Yoichi? I'm the monster that gets defeated in the end?" All for One speaks firmly as he can play the role a bit if that is what his brother wants instead... But he can't.

Maybe for a little while but its hard seeing the way his brother tries so hard to be strong. The way those eyes look up at him there was still innocence and pleading for him...

He smiles softly despite himself as if to assure the other he wasn't mad at his behavior. His little brother was already going to suffer a lot here and will try to accommodate him as best he can.

"I promise, this isn't forever," he doesn't wish it to be forever. Releasing the young man he watches as the male steps away from him looking unsure. As Hisashi slowly walks toward the door it seemed Yoichi tried to follow but was shoved back.

"Please, Hisashi don't do this! You don't have to be the bad guy, we can just stop all of this! Go some where far far away from everything," Yoichi was pleading now almost bargaining. Hisashi looks at his little brother noting that the first time he raised an idea of just leaving it all.

Maybe if he had said something earlier it would have been alright. Viable even to take all the money and run off... It's too late for that there is too much going on and too many people wanting him dead.

"I'll make sure to visit often and make you your favorite food. I love you," was his only response as he hears his brother scream at him not to leave. Before closing the door completely leaving his hysteric brother behind. Noting how quiet it became the moment the door closed allowing him peace.

His chest was heavy as he felt his vision blur trying hard not to feel the frustration about the situation. His hand moves to wipe his face and straightens himself up as he places a hand on the door. His eyes staring intently as he had work that still wasn't completed.

"I promise, this isn't forever. Even if I hurt you everything in the end is for you," maybe he had lost his way and original motivation. Maybe he had lost sight of his original goals just twisted by a childhood fantasy.

Which is what made his one connection, Yoichi, so important. Knowing if he loses him then he will become that very monster everyone believes in. His remaining sanity will break because he can't let him go. It's too late to turn back from this path as it was only inviting death to himself and Yoichi.

Especially Yoichi...

Because what is the point of a future if the only family he has is gone?

Ranpo, is like a koala.

He has to look up to you (literally) like everyone else.

Fukuzawa always stays inside his office with you being his chair.

Fukuzawa will pull you down whenever you walk through doors because you're too busy to notice that you almost kissed the door goodbye.

Fukuzawa isn't really a PDA type.

But when he sees women ogooling you— he'd be full on showing you affection. "I thought you said no pda—" "hush."

Fukuzawa is lucky to have you.

You're a cat magnet, whenever you go you always have cats trailing behind you. Fukuzawa will look at you saying he wants all these cats;you have no choice but to adopt ALL OF THEM.

You're a cat person but fukuzawa is more of a cat person than you.

He'll make you bend down just to pet your head.

OUGAI MORI

Mori and chuuya gets annoyed by your height. They have to literally look up when talking to you until their neck hurts. Chuuya once used his ability to be on your eye level so his neck wont hurt from talking to you ;and now he's always doing that whenever you two talk.

Sorry. I didn't mention that mori-san is a possessive man.

He makes sure that you and Kouyou-san are 2 feet apart. He wont let you go alone if he stays you stay. But if you go without his permission and he sees you with another woman expect blood splatters.

Mori-san and you always have matching clothing.

If he encounters fukuzawa-san and you're with him he will be alerted, he doesn't trust those Detective nor should you.

A friend once asked me why I like she li so much bc my personality literaly is just she li and I have a whole Album of him just chilling on my phone. Im just going to trash talk if you're bored you can read this amazing post.

There isnt much about she li that I like besides his looks. Yes he sometimes look like the mustiest most disgusting ass bitch but somehow manages to look fine sometimes.

One major factor is that I just love the way he is represented in 19 days. He is strong yes, but stupid. He isn't the strongest either but somehow manages to have to balls for everything even if he stands 0 chance to it. He is hilarious. We don't know much about his past but what I'm guessing is that he doesn't really know the definition to love somebody. From what I read and analyzed maybe it's because of his parents that he thinks hurting, making them cry and taking advantage of someone is a way to show affection and make the one beside them stay. Yes it's fucked up but that's all he's ever known. Although at his age he should know better I'm guessing he just can't because he either a) is way to impacted to even think of any other solution or b) he just doesn't want to because he feels a way of power by doing what he does.

But I do have a feeling that he isn't dead yet. I have this doubt that he is. I feel like there's just to much information missing for it to end there. Yes *that* official art by old Xian could prove otherwise but I feel like after this huge fight she li wouldn't dare to come near them again. I do know that old Xian loves to leave cliffhangers or ignore some of the information we need/want from a character but somehow my gut just tells me this isn't it. I would honstely love to see him more and maybe even get side chapters (until that happens I'm alr a full old ass person) because his personality and the way he is just amazes me everytime. I sometimes wonder how stupid you have to be to end up like him. He is so funny and dumb.

Marcela Valencia Part A

In this post I will be discussing Marcela and her toxic/abusive traits. There will be a mention of Armando but since this isn't the post regarding his abusive tendencies and toxic behavior in that relationship I won't really be focusing on him. I am not brushing off his behavior or painting him to be the victim. For the sake of this post I want you to keep that in mind because I won't be focusing on him, rather Marcela.

From the start of the series Marcela is an antagonist, full stop. I'm not referring to the romantic element of the story we are given but just in general.

An antagonist is usually the character used to press all the right buttons on the protagonist for the sake of pushing them. In a way they are the worst traits of the protagonist at all times, however they're not all that terrible so they aren't the story's true villain. Short words: They are the opposer or rival of the story.

She antagonizes Armando a lot, but at what point does just pushing buttons turn into abuse?

Abuse:

treat (a person or an animal) with cruelty or violence, especially regularly or repeatedly.

"riders who abuse their horses should be prosecuted"

We are told Marcela Valencia is in love with Armando the entire time. Her actions are justified by the ideology that women who behave this way are just passionate and deeply in love so they defend their territory and lash out because they don't want to lose the man they love and above all, wounds caused by love are justified.

Except we are shown something differently.

Marcela judges people by their looks, she is snotty, spoiled, emotionally immature/stunt, and as many say a misogynist. She looks at every woman as a competition and solely blames women for the actions that man were involved in as well(for example when Aura Maria had a relationship with Mario while he was in a relationship with Patty. She was constantly throwing remarks at Aura Maria after that. Now, I personally believe that Aura Maria is just at fault as Mario. She learned that he was in a relationship with Patty and didn't end it, instead for the sake of her ego continued to sleep with him to get back at Patty. She did have fault for that but Mario did too for taking advantage of his power in the company and being a whore.). Marcela never holds men accountable for what they do. Men have desires, men blah blah blah.

When Armando cheats on her, she does throw a fit and gets angry at him but usually her anger is imploded on the poor stupid woman who slept with Armando.

This we are shown at the start of the Novela, literally in the first couple of episodes we are told and shown this. So it isn't uncommon when we see her behave this way.

However later on we are given scenes where the disagreement that Armando and her are having aren't related to infidelity. They relate to Patricia, Betty, business deals, and so on.

It's understandable that Marcela wants to be the priority in Armando's life; the issue here is that Marcela does nothing to gain that. She demands it automatically. She demands to be his priority in everything. From the start she begins to spy on Armando, constantly wanting to know his whereabouts. She calls him every time they aren't in the same building. She expects him to answer her calls, tell her what he's doing and who with. She feels like Armando is supposed to do this because she owns him.

Take into account that at the beginning of the series Marcela is stomach-able in the romantic element. Later her lust turns into possessiveness.

Where she no longer looks at Armando as her boyfriend but an object for her to have. She sees him as a trophy that makes her look good. Marcela Valencia, the woman who manages to get Armando Mendoza, a man desired by every woman who is a womanizer, to settle down to one woman? and that woman be her, Marcela Valencia.

The problem is that we're told she is the one that is in love in the relationship however she constantly dismisses Armando's feelings, finds every excuse to be a helicopter and overbearing in his life when she can clearly tell he doesn't want that.

Their relationship is toxic and dysfunctional. They are both at fault but in this post I really want to focus on Marcela's side and her role in it.

I've been thinking a lot about Marcela and how it must be to be in a relationship like hers. Now not to get too personal on her but I have been in toxic friendships. I know what it's like to have someone gaslight you, use silent treatments as a form of punishment to make you feel guilty for calling them out, and breaking down your self-esteem. You really believe that no one will ever care for you like they do and you become depended on them and their validation.

However I don't identify myself with Marcela at all. She doesn't have low self-esteem, which cancels out that Armando's cheating deeply affects her. Marcela knows she's beautiful and desired by other men(I could be mistaking YSBLF with LFMB in this specific regard but I recall an early episode where Patty and Marce are talking about guys and Patty tells her she's desired by other men) . She thinks she's better than Betty and all the other woman that Armando has slept with and blames those woman9Not that they're so hot that he succumbed to their beauty but that they're classless women who go after men that are in relationships and that because he's a man and a woman wants to do the sinful dance with for Armando's infidelity and Armando never tells her that she's ugly, undesirable, that no one else will love her etc etc. So why does she stay with him? Is it love?

Love isn't possessive, jealous, angry, hurtful, boastful, arrogant, or selfish.

She doesn't love him.

So why does she stay with him?

I already mentioned it. She views Armando as an object. A trophy of sorts that is good for her self-esteem and her image. So she takes his infidelities as just stupid flings but Armando wants to marry her so she's better than they are. Those women are just for a day or two but she's forever and that makes her a champion.

She is so stubborn that she won't let him leave. Armando essentially becomes a bird with its wings clipped and trapped in a cage for her own amusement.

Many people don't see that because to everyone else Marcela is the poor victim of Armando and his infidelities.

The episode I'm on right now shows us this dynamic. Marcela is upset and angry at Armando for his fling with Claudia(she knows it happened even though he denies it.) and they're arguing over it. They're walking in the hotel as Armando asks her if she wants them to be the main show of the event or for them to kill each other, if that's what she wants than perfect he'll oblige.

She then tells him that she asked for one head and he hasn't delivered it, that he had his fling in her company to which Armando replies "It's mine too."

"Yes it's yours too but I asked you for one head! and you haven't given it to me! You aren't going to be laughing at me! I won't allow it!" she waves her finger in his face.

"I'm not laughing at you" Armando's tone is defensive and in the background we see Cata and a guest nearing them and here's the thing that demonstrates why Marcela is the perfect example of an abuser behind closed doors.

Everyone expects and sees Armando yelling at her and telling her things but often it happens after Marcela has pushed his buttons(not saying that she didn't have a reason to be angry at him, she did) often times we see the switch between being the abuser to being the abused. While one is being abusive the other is being an reactionary abuser.

What is the difference between someone who is abusive and an reactionary abuser?

The abuser often times is the one with the upper hand and the one causing or inflicting pain on purpose while the reactionary is reacting to the abuse in an a way that is abusive.

For example here Marcela is demanding for him to do what she told him to do and that she won't permite for him to laugh at her. The day has been a bad one for Armando so he is tense and already in a bad mood as he talks to Marcela.

However Marcela wants things done her way, despite knowing that Armando's hands are tied with Claudia the model he had a fling with, and that Armando doesn't want to fire his assistant. She expects and demands for him to do what she told him to do and she won't let him get away with not doing it.

What does this mean? Enter the space of reading between the lines. Hearing a phrase like that and understanding the context is a very vital and important bit. Let's reverse the gender roles here for a bit. If a man told a woman "You aren't going to be laughing at me! I won't allow it!" while waving their finger in their face what would we think of that situation? We'd think they guy is being borderline abusive, wouldn't we? While yes Marcela has every right to be justified in her anger, the problem lies with how she behaves or reacts due to her anger. Feelings are always valid, actions not so much. Actions can be explained but not always justified and this is where Marcela's behavior is wrong. Here she shows that she has the upper hand and control over Armando's fate in totality.

In this moment as Armando now starts yelling at her as Cata and the guest near them, Armando is the abuser and Marcela is the abused as she stands there taking his yelling they then get interrupted by Cata and the guest and great each other. Marcela then throws a jab at him to poke him, he turns to look at her and shakes his head and tells her that wasn't funny.

Marcela turns to look at him and says "No? You don't think that it was funny that you were locked in your office with a model and had your assistant sneak her out?"

This now becomes a public humiliation of Armando as his intimacy is thrown out there for the public to consume and Marcela is the poor victim of Armando and his infidelity.

[EDIT: I find this scene interesting because you'd assume Marcela wouldn't want to make it public that Armando cheats on her. She cares about public perception. However she throws this out to both Cata and unknown guest. A person who often suffers at the hand's of their partner due to infidelity carries a shame and an embarrassment due to it, so why does Marcela make it public? She does it to make Armando uncomfortable, to show that she has power in the relationship. Also because this is a a tactic many abusers use, which is victimize themselves to the public in order to gain sympathy votes and whenever the person who is the true victim of the situation acts out in defiance, anger, or even abusive/toxic ways, they can say "see I told you! They're the bad one, I'm just a victim!" this allows the abuser to continue having the upper hand in the relationship and further isolating their victim.

Which is something that Armando is dealing with. In another post I talked about how Armando never seemed to make many friends aside from Mario but it just hit me that often times Armando has said that he can't go somewhere or hang out with certain people because Marcela hates them and will not let him go out or use them as an excuse to go on his dates with Betty because Marcela would want to go to keep an eye on him. Often times Marcela is the one that is seen to be the one to have more friends than Armando.]

This isn't the first time that an incident like this happens.

Later on when Armando begins his romance with Betty in the early stages of it they get into a huge fight in his office due to a poem Betty left on his desk signed by Delmira Agostini(Post Hmm, Yeah, Who Knows Where He Spent The Night) and later on that night Hugo goes into his office and tells him about it.

Armando scoffed and said something along the lines of "Marcela went to you with the new piece of gossip, of course she would.". It wasn't until I heard him say that that it all made sense to me.

Armando doesn't just neglect to invite Marcela into his personal intimate life(his thoughts etc.) because he's a cheating whore but because he doesn't trust her.

We're never shown Marcela to be worthy of his trust(just because you're in a relationship with someone doesn't automatically mean you get ownership of their intimacy or that you deserve it for simply being a participating individual of said relationship) . Behind closed doors when he's not around she tells his business to Patricia, Hugo, or Margarita and from there on mouths run. She does it with every affair Armando has and I'm not saying she doesn't have a right to be upset, she does but the way she behaves and reacts to it is the problem.

She demands for Armando to respect her, prioritize her, do everything she wants and without doing anything to be worthy of it. Her possessiveness isn't only related to Armando, she's also possessive regarding her role in Eco Moda, which is a reason why she goes after Betty so much, even before she starts to cover for Armando's infidelities.

Marcela's abuse is by extorting Armando both emotionally and sexually. The man lives only to avoid fights in the relationship and uses affairs as a from of escapism from said relationship, is it justified? No.

This behavior of him feeds the cycle, however we understand that Armando's actions are wrong and not excusable, explainable? Yes but not excused. In the same vain, so are Marcela's actions.

In order for a relationship to be toxic, both people have to be abusive towards each other, if not than it would just be an abusive relationship but because both Marcela and Armando have these abusive tendencies and traits, they both lash out, they both inflict pain on each other and they both hate each others guts.

Due to Armando's gaslighting Marcela reacts fueled with anger to prove that she's right.

[EDIT: This other half(starting from this point on) of the post is written months after I first wrote the first half so there might be a bit of change in tonality when I talk about Marcela, however the point still stands which is why I didn't just write a whole new post in regards to this.]

I've just never understood why she wants to prove she's right and the only thing that comes to mind is ego.

Marce has proven that Armando has been unfaithful. She often says that if she ever caught Armando in the act of infidelity that she'd end him however we have been told countless times of the women Marcela has kicked out of Eco Moda and career's of whom she's ruined because she had enough evidence, just not of Armando with his pants down. This evidence has been enough for Marce to act this way...so wouldn't that be enough to prove that Armando is unfaithful? Enough evidence to end him and their relationship? Each time he denies this, each time he ends the argument with "fine I'll leave then." and she tells him not to.

Why does she stay?

I think Marcela's possessiveness comes from losing her parents and not being able to move through that pain. Losing a loved one is not easy and she lost both her parents and was told that to honor her parents she should marry Armando, that it's what her parents wanted most in the world, for both families to be united and to work for the company.

I do think for that reason Marcela also stayed in the relationship with Armando. She felt that she was honoring her parents final wishes, however, she truly thought or believed she loved Armando and was in love with him.

She didn't understand that what she felt for him wasn't real and genuine feelings.

After taking a break from YSBLF for a couple of weeks I've had to really reflect on my personal opinions of the characters, especially Marcela.

I don't think it's surprising for me to say that I'm not a big fan of hers, even when she's nice. I understand that Armando's actions are a reason as to why she acts the way she does, however while writing for Armando's Deep Dive Character post I came to realize something that made me look at Marcela in a whole new light.

I condemn Marcela so much, without an ounce of redemption, when she's just like Armando.

Pah pah pah

Hear me out.

Not in all aspects, but in some, they are.

This is highlighted a lot when Armando becomes toxic in his relationship with Betty, after she finds the letter.

As I was writing down that part of his post I realized that Armando was acting just like Marcela was when she'd accuse him of cheating and it wasn't until I did that that I decided to take some time and reflect on Marcela and wanting to give her a fair chance instead of making a post only condemning her with only a few nice things to say about her.

Again, emotions, feelings, they are valid but actions aren't always justified, only explained.

In the art of being objective, I must also be objective with Betty and as much as I hate to do this I must run her through the mud for just this once.

Marcela isn't insecure, I think we've established that already. The reason why she stayed with Armando was more in the act of egotism and wanting to be the 'champion', above all women she'd be the one the tame the slut(I use this term without gender in mind). She stays in the relationship because of her possessiveness, like a dog who has marked her territory already, and in a sense to honor her parents, in this order, from priority to lesser.

However there's more to her behavior.

Marcela has been gaslit by Armando for a couple of months, I won't say years because at the start of the Novela it was insinuated that though they were in a relationship for two years that it was understood it was pretty casual from Armando's side since he did make a promise to stop being such a sexual-*ahmm* social butterfly outside of their relationship and to settle down and become more mature. So again I won't say years for the exact reason as even Marcela knew that Armando had his other girlfriends, even if he denied it, like everyone knew.

Obviously this would cause her to act out this way, however very immature on her part. Since with her we don't really get an upbringing, even a small hint like we did with Armando it is really hard to pin point if she was always like this or if it was solely based on Armando's cheating that made her be that way.

However, again, since she was this way from the get go, one can assume she has always been like this.

She's classist, entitled, snobby, elitist, sexist, and so much more from the start.

Due to that we will asume that this is probably due to feeling like she needs to be in a constant competition with women, for Armando. However this in itself present itself as a double edge sword of sorts, for one it causes her to have a big idea of herself. She views herself as better than most women if not all, physically that is. This grandiosity she has of herself is really the factor that causes such a strain in their relationship because let's say that Marcela wasn't so possessive, sexually and emotionally manipulative, and selfish in her relationship, do you think Armando would cheat on her?

And the argument of "why is it only the woman's fault that their partner cheats on them?" its not important rn, this question isn't implying that.

There's a possibility he would, lets be honest, he wasn't in love with Marcela.

But at least he'd love her as a friend, no?

Enough to not want to hurt her.

While yes Armando was marrying her for three reasons, one of them being his ego inflation once he won the presidency of Eco Moda instead of Daniel(though this wasn't the only reason he wanted the gig) the other his parents and lastly the fact he wanted to prove to Marcela, his parents, and himself that he was capable of being mature and settling down with one woman and he chose Marcela to be that woman.

He did want to stay faithful to her and he did want to get serious.

However, this is where the but gets here and Marcela's fanbase will get upset but too bad too sad, this is an objective analysis.

Marcela became so much more possessive of Armando after their engagement. She became very entitled of him and wanted to know where he was, with who, what(who) he was doing, and with whom. His agenda and her fight to have it, against Armando's wishes, was a perfect example of that but also went to symbolize to want lengths Marcela would go to get what she wants, without someone's consent.

With her ever growing entitlement of Armando the more desperate that man became to flee from Marcela to the point that it no longer was about proving to himself and others that he was mature and settling down with Marcela but out of duty, responsibility, and fear that he stayed in the relationship.

We can agree that Armando is just as much to blame for the dissolvement of that relationship as Marcela.

I do think that growing up in an environment where Beauty is the status quo and "perfection" isn't only expected but required has caused her to be very vain and superficial, just like with Armando. She was a daddy's girl and it was implied by Roberto that Marcela was probably her father's favorite.

I already did a post where I talked in granted detail about a father's role in their daughter's development and life[Don Hermes: A Deep Dive] and I suggest you go read it if you haven't in order to continue this next theme.

It's always healthy to grow up with both parents, especially a father figure. It helps a girl out a lot in her life. The problem begins when the father figure isn't a good parental role.

For example: A father who always succumbs to all the tantrums and wishes their daughter has will teach them that they should always get what they want without much effort, that things should be handed to them. It teaches girls that certain things are possessions, even humans, that they deserve things if they so as much just want it. It makes them grow up with a huge ego and belief that they deserve things for simply existing and breathing, even if their behavior isn't in par with it.

Allowing your child to avoid the natural consequences of their actions teaches them that they can do what ever they want.

If Marcela was a huge daddy's girl, but grew up with a father who did absolutely anything she wanted and desired for simply saying it she won't have a balanced way of thinking when it comes to her partner. She would expect him to give her everything she wants and desires for simply being in the relationship and when not met her way she'd throw a tantrum in order to still get it.

What evidence is there in show of this?

One of the very first episodes there's a scene where she's with Margarita, talking about the agenda, I believe, and Margi tells her she's not acting like a mature woman but the same spoiled immature woman as always. Marcela gets offended and angry at this but the scene changes.

The tiny glimpses we get from Marcela aren't positive ones. They indicate someone who always has been this way.

Even though I haven't really sat down to watch the later half of the novela, only the last three episodes, Marcela still carried and acted as herself. Not once did she change, especially those crucial episodes in which she breaks up with Armando.

When she has moments of lucidness, of realizing what that relationship is, Margi and Patsy Pats are always there to pull her away from that lucidness and convince her to stay in the relationship, especially Margi as she constantly manipulates Marcela's emotions to continue the relationship. HOWEVER, even when it comes to that lucidness, Marcela only wants to break up with Armando for the simple reason that it grosses her out that Armando slept with Betty. That's it. It only hurts her that she's suffered and she doesn't want to continue suffering.

Yes this is a valid reason, one should end a relationship if they are unhappy in said relationship. So what is the problem?

Selfishness, even in the breakup, Marcela shows to be selfish. She uses this infidelity that Armando had with a woman, an "ugly" one, and that is the most despicable thing to her, not that he had an affair with a woman, but an ugly one. That is the affair that shatters her self-esteem because she herself realized that it wasn't only physical but emotional. He didn't just have a sexual affair but he literally replaced her in all aspects of their life and treated her better than he treated her, the ugly woman.

That alone is hurtful. We can sympathize with her for it.

Obviously she'd want to break up with him.

However, again, the hurt she feels is a hurt of "What he has done to me" not rather a hurt of "What this relationship has done to the both of us". Time and time again Marcela fails to realize or accept that she too is to blame for their failing of that relationship.

She is a victim to Armando's gaslighting. She is a victim to the cheating.

However as explained in this post we can conclude why Marcela stays in the relationship. She doesn't stay for love, out of fear, out of the fear that no one will love her or want her. She stays out of possessiveness and egotism. She stays to have someone to control. Someone to abuse.

You cannot say Armando did not suffer abuse from Marcela.

She sexually exploited him by not respecting his no's when he'd say he didn't want to or wasn't in the mood. The man would just lay there. Even when it was over, the final times, when did get short scenes of them afterwards, while Marcela was happy, Armando looked somewhere else.

She guilt him to stay in the relationship, she'd talk badly about him to others. She had an absolute control over his social life. Her constant threats of destroying his life if they broke up if she ever physically caught him in the act of cheating weren't empty as she did just that when she had a whiff of cheating on his part.

Yes her feelings are valid, her actions? No.

Even then this woman was severely hurt, either if she herself inflicted these wounds or others did, she did deserve to get well for her sake and not for somebody else. However the huge differences between Marcela and Armando are big. They aren't tiny ones and due to this it could sound like I'm justifying or excusing one's actions while condemning another's actions; which is not the case at all.

And since I already said this post isn't focused on Armando; I won't really explain or try to breakdown his side and I'm merely using these two examples as a means to compare and see how vile Marcela's actions truly were.

The huge differences are that Armando wanted to end the relationship, not for his sake alone, but for Marcela's as well. He didn't want to cause her more harm and knew that by staying with her, even as guilty as he felt hurting her, that he was miserable and would only cause her harm due to it. He knew how his actions would harm her and in order to not harm her anymore he decided that it was best if they broke up. While Marcela only wanted to end the relationship because her ego had crumbled but even then she still didn't want to lose her hold on Armando as an object.

Armando came to not only know why his actions were bad, but understand why and how bad they were as he paid the consequences to it. He lost absolutely everything but in that he also learned what true love is and what self-love/respect means as well. Sadly Marcela never had that. She never really changed her way of thinking, even after Armando expressed to her how he felt in their relationship when they broke up for the final time, Marcela at the end of the novela said she loved Armando and due to that she was telling Betty the whole truth; however the real objective was that Eco Moda wouldn't be abandoned for the banks to shred to pieces, so it wasn't out of love or self-sacrifice for Armando's happiness. She only did it for Eco Moda, in reality she did it for her parents which shows that she can in fact love correctly when it's convenient to her. By that point she knew Armando would never get back with her, no matter how much she wanted it so she did what she had to for Eco Moda and her parents legacy.

The episodes after Betty finds the letter are so emotionally heavy for me that I cannot sit down and watch them just because it stresses me out so much for a lot of reasons, which is why I've taken a break from it.

For one: Marcela entitlement and egotism is so huge and highlighted in these episodes that I get head aches from rolling my eyes.

Two: Armando's behavior pisses me off so much.

and lastly three: Betty. Oh if I were her friend and knew what was going on I'd slap her 'til she orbited Jupiter thrice

Now that those disclaimers are out of the way let's continue analyzing the final stages of Marcela's abusive behavior.

In this love, or relationship triangle Armando is always in the middle of it. He is always split between Marce and Betty. However, what truly highlights his abusive and terrible toxic traits are very much a mirror and identical to those of Marcela.

For example, as mentioned above, when he grabs Betty by the force to kiss her in the office; Marcela constantly going down on him when he tells her he isn't in the mood. When he follows Betty around; Marcela spying on him. When he accuses Betty of cheating; Marcela's constant accusations. When he beat up Nicolas; Marcela destroying the career's of the women he had affairs with and banning them from ever working for Eco Moda.

What's different here?

Well Marcela only ever seemed to let go of an argument when Armando would conclude his gaslighting for the night by threatening to leave the apartment but she never really let go of it. She'd always save it for later; to prove he wasn't trust worthy. Often times when a person says they'll drop it or forgive the person or forget about it and they save it for later this is done in a way to guilt the person, to shame them, and humiliate them and make them feel, even if they've changed, that they will never atone for their past mistakes, that they are in debt to the person and therefore continue to do as they say or stay.

When Betty and Armando would argue or discuss something they'd often do it with the goal of resolving whatever issue it was they were having, which is something that is done in healthy relationships.

When Marcela and Armando are arguing there is constant yelling, no attempt to actually resolve the issue just end the argument because often Marcela wants to be right. She wants to be the one that is to speak and be heard and most importantly be right. This builds an atmosphere of fear, of distrust, and of guilt. Even if Armando did want to confess to her that he had cheated with so and so; it wasn't that Marcela would leave him; it's what she would do in retribution that kept him with his lips sealed.

Armando was terrified of Marcela and what she would do to him, not only in a romantic and personal way but to his entire life.

I'm not saying Marcela didn't have a right to be angry; except again, all of this time we're being told that Marcela loves Armando and her actions always come from a place of love. Does this sound like someone who loves their partner?

Since we've established the reason she stays isn't for love towards Armando we can conclude she stays for the love she feels for herself.

However this parallels to Betty as well.

When Betty comes to find the letter with every right she feels angry, hurt, violated, and hateful. However even then, as valid as her feelings are, her actions are not.

It wasn't until I read @el-moscorrofio-y-el-mercachifle post talking about Armando also being a victim that it finally clicked. For a while I felt like I couldn't really put my finger on it, like I couldn't understand why I disliked Betty so much at this point of the novela until THEN.

Betty takes on the role of Armando in her relationship with Armando, while Armando takes on the role of Marcela.

The papers are reversed. I'll talk more about this in the Armando post but just wanted to sort of bring it on here too because it displays Marcela's abusive behavior so well.

The thing is that Marcela's actions are often celebrated because she's a vengeful woman who was done wrong by the man she loves but we can conclude that Marcela doesn't love Armando, she isn't even in love with him or the idea of him. She's in love with the idea of herself being in love with him. She's in lust with him and she feels like he belongs to her for simply "winning against all the other women."

She uses a lot of tactics that Narcissistic abuser use. I'm not saying she displays symptoms of NPD. However she is very close to it.

Marcela Valencia has good qualities to her; for example deep down she's a romantic who when seeing Freddy and Aura Maria back together she softens and talked to Aura about being serious and not hurting Freddy. Seeing the way Freddy loves Aura Maria is what truly melts her ice heart and she ends up not firing them.

She helps out Patsy Pats even though she knows that she'll mostly likely never pay her back and that Patsy just manipulates her into giving her money and to leach her.

She wants to be loved. She's responsible, hard working, and truly cares about her role in Eco Moda.

These are good qualities of hers.

However they become overshadowed and covered up by all her other terrible qualities so it's really hard to find them and that's the whole point. While Betty is supposed to be "ugly" on the outside she's supposed to be quite beautiful and astonishing on the inside and contrary Marcela is supposed to be extremely attractive on the outside while ugly on the inside.

Yes, cheating is not something anyone deserves and it's not justified. If you're unhappy in a relationship be honest and leave it before you cheat. However both Armando and Marcela had so many responsibilities with other people for the relationship to continue and knowing how they both are they both stayed for those reasons but priorities are the main reason they stayed.

Armando was terrified of ending the relationship for the consequences and retaliation of Marcela. Marcela didn't want to end the relationship because she felt like she'd lose her favorite toy and she wouldn't feel like a champion anymore. Armando cheated to escape the relationship while this just ended up making Marcela even more unbearable. Had Armando never cheated on her after he proposed to her, do you think they would have ended?

Yeah.

Armando was miserable even at the start of that relationship and due to it he didn't trust nor share anything with her and that drove Marcela nuts and would continue to do so.

Healthy relationships, above all have mutual respect for one another and that moves their love to be selfless, their desires to work in harmony, and for issues to be resolved not because of egos but in order to restore the harmony of their relationship.

If we as a fandom condemn Armando for what he did to Betty and Marcela we should also condemn Marcela and Betty for what they did to Armando.

In this love triangle of sorts they were all victims of their borderline abusive and full on abusive traits. Also they're all victims of Margarita, in all honesty she should be the one that should be blamed, along with Roberto. They both sucked as(Step) parents, role models, and advisories.

Ulrik: Him being a cop, and a high ranking one at that, might clearly come in handy! At least to cover our tracks. Also, he's good tactician.

Josela: She's ruthless and somewhat stealthy. It could help if things go south. Also, it wouldn't be her first rodeo...

Vespera: ... her witch-powers would DEFINITELY help, I'm sure. In some way, she can even slice into computer or start a car that doesn't want to start.

Crahl: He wouldn't mind to commit that kind of crime, especially if his share his good, he works well with a team (at the helm or not), is an excellent fighter that can use any kind of environment to his own advantage... and he's basically a weapon of his own.

Do I trust them?! With my life, sire!!!

BONUS: Well, I'd say it would go well up to a certain point. And then, one of us would be wounded, I'm sure. Whether it's by their own stupidity or bad luck, this is still to determine... and then, the Fates weren't on our side at the moment to start the car or something, and we'd manage to scatter and dispear in full Mando-fashion thanks to Crahl's training just in time, but on foot.

Who has the loot? Where are they gone? Will we regroup... ? I sure hope so! We have an RV point, anyway. And coms. We are professionals... (Not like some PMC dickhead JAKE FRANKLIN that I won't name...)

So, if Jo isn't the one with the bag, she'd find the one she saw with it ASAP... Just to be sure they'd be honest, or to just gun them down if they aren't. Vera wouldn't be the one with the bag anyway, but she'd probably be the first to reach RVpoint. Crahl would certainly be the one with the bag... but he's an honest Mando, so he'd reach RVpoint after being sure he wasn't followed. And Ulrik would contact us days after for the split, sure of where we were during all that time because of his informant network.

You know, there's a thing with characters that foil each other and serve as the "good" and "bad" respectively (Toga/Himiko, Tenko/Izuku, Nagito/Hajime, Ryoko/Hajime, Atsushi/Akutagawa) but that trope felt rather annoying to write, especially in the world I am trying to write about (ALTERNATIVE's world is basically MHA X BSD but like. 1000 times more fucked up and the Specialised are always prejudiced against. A terrible lot).

The title itself, ALTERNATIVE is to symbolise Romila's POV of "infinite choices and paths present for every being" and how she starts off the story with a decisive line of,

"Many people ask me if this could have been avoided. They beg for me to tell them that things could have been better. There are others too, who try to justify that this was the only way for things to have been. If you ask me, both are living in states of denial. One can't accept the stupidity of humanity for disregarding common sense for violence and prejudices. Another can't accept humanity's choice for having better circumstances if the one with the power chose to."

The thing is, the running theme is that the story is a bittersweet one, despite there not being many deaths of the main characters, but there was always a junction where you can see it could have been avoided, that there was an "alternative" for things to have gotten better, especially in the first book.

Another reason for the title is that it's basically an "ALTERNATIVE" to this world of ours, where super powers and stuff like those exist.

The subtitles of both the books (Myriad of Colours, Colour of Death) signifies Romila's power, "Aura Tracker" which lets her view people's aura as colours (Myriad of Colours is to signify the different kinds of people she meets, Colour of Death is about what affects her the most (death) and how she's constantly seeing that colour everywhere, especially now that it's war).

The thing about ALTERNATIVES is that Romila could have chosen to be a doormat (like Koldin tends to be at the beginning (his rp self is like THAT due to circumstances different to ALTERNATIVE's actual storyline. Also because Hack's a nicer person to be around than Romila is) in order to nOt hAvE cOnFliCt™) to not get into conflict and put up a super nice persona for people but she didn't. She decided to focus on hanging onto her reasons for doing what she does and using it to create a caustic personality to shield herself because she knows that she will regret being a doormat (Her Despair takes the form of Koldin Hopkins).

Now Koldin could have certainly put his hatred for society at the forefront and taken a caustic personality but instead chooses to be nice. Because he doesn't want to become as hurtful as the rest, that's how he wants to disentangle himself from society. However he, like Romila (who just took standing up for herself to extremes), takes this to the extremes causing him to gain the personality of a nice boy™.

However this also goes into why they made the choices they did (which is what Romila realises during the Mansion of Death arc), because for Romila, she didn't really have the psychology for actually becoming a doormat (because a) Her mom wouldn't have it b) She hated to be called weak c) She didn't have anyone to fall back to after the inevitable consequences of being a doormat d) She felt that if she were to live with monsters, then it's easier to blend in by being one (this comes useful to her when she infiltrates into the Government) e) She saw doormats getting suicidal which frightened her) or not becoming fully caustic (since her standing up for herself wasn't. Liked. By. Anyone. And seen as aggressive and she basically went, "Well if they see me as bad, I will show them BAD" which led to her breakdown causing the incidents at the Mansion Of Death (especially a twisted hatred against Koldin for extremely understandable reasons).

For Koldin, being meek and peaceful had let him get by in the streets and his skills to difuse fights had come in handy. Later when Dr. Hopkins took him in, he was well. A member of the Radicals who were known to be extremely merciless towards the Specialised (he had defected but Koldin had a REALLY good reason to be wary) so he figured if he stayed nice, he wouldn't be kicked out of the house and Dr. Hopkins being Dr. Hopkins just assumed that it was his normal and that behaviour carried into school. He figured that it was a horrifying thing to be aggressive and then saw how Romila got treated and decided that yep, he was right, that confirmed his world view alright and it was more reason to be super nice. While Romila saw Koldin as a person who everyone took advantage of (a thing she hated. To be exploited just like that) and went, yep that confirmed hers and it was more reason to be super angry.

However the thing is that, Romila was chided for being anything, which caused her to just give up to be peaceful (because what would she do? Anything she tried to do got her scolded) while Koldin (thankfully) found a support system. It really goes to show the difference a good friend can do.....

As it is, when I first began writing this, the most obvious choice presented itself to me. Koldin is the "hope" and Romila is the "despair" (on the protagonist, deutergonist side) but that seemed stupid and boring as it wouldn't make sense. Since I am trying to make a point of showing with how Romila's world view gradually changes from "there are wrong and right choices" to the fact that it doesn't have to be rigid and that *now* she wouldn't be hurt if she used what her vulnerable side wanted (a world free of prejudices and unnecessary cruelty) with the talents she had. That kindness mixed with her usual personality won't literally kill her.

And for Koldin, being a doormat means that he got taken advantage of a lot by different people and since he refused to actually stand up for himself ("Ah...aha......it seems that I can't..." "Can't what?" "Feel angry for myself......it's always anger that comes from the ones I love being hurt" "Then love yourself too, you will feel angry again" ~ Koldin's conversation with his inverted self in the Labyrinth) he got. Taken advantage of. By virtually everyone. However he decided that if being nice would keep him keep his self and his name self then it would be fine. He did not want to be the source of grief (his actual parents tossed him out because of his Specialisation). The Mansion Of Death actually causes him to snap for that reason, because Romila literally puts him in a torture dream "for the greater good" and then proceeds to kill his dear friend. One thing Koldin HATED. Killing friends. (Due to them being run over by a car, which led to his paralysed left arm)

Now on the other side, their respective friends:

Romila:

Luja: Cynical and annoyed by people's stupidity but not to caustic extents and she wants to be a scientist and isn't haunted by the possibility of dying.

Kratanos: Full of anger and hatred against the world but not entirely blinded by it and is focused to using that anger for reformation of the world (she becomes a therapist later, to help people)

They both have her caustic parts but they also let themselves embrace another side which makes them her "balance".

Koldin:

Anand: Believes that there's no requirement for violence unless it's absolutely necessary.

Karishma: Figures it's a better idea to just listen to rules but doesn't hesitate to break them if she sees that they are bs

They both have his peacefulness, but don't hesitate to do what they think they should do, which makes them his "balance".

The point is that, the case of choosing alternatives isn't possible with a tunnel vision. Even so, there are choices that literally can't be made due to the individual and circumstances. Sometimes the choice is to choose more than one choice. Well, that's one dramatic storyline......

It reminds me of DDLC side stories since everyone has a bit of the other person's solutions and more of a opposite personality (don't take this the wrong way, there are many stories like that and it's honestly a favourite to think abt but it's just that DDLC does it well especially since it's only a school environment). Tbh, I like dramatic storylines that rlly dig deep into a character's perspective (reasons why I'm in love with Hack and Axel in particular). My whole thing is that I'd rather read a story with interesting and in depth characters than one where only the plot is good so I say you made the great call of the century with Koldin and Romila's characters.

What you thought before getting into it is rlly how every great character arc starts. You focus on one, somewhat forget the other one until you review every single character for inspiration and then BAM! PARALLELS! It's really admirable how, even in this messed up world of specializations, you didn't purely focus on the plot bc it honestly sounds interesting enough to just stick around for Romila's life and journey. You could have ended it all with just that, but no, you smacked Koldin in there and said "be my interesting on par character that can kick Romila's gut" and IT WORKED SPECTACULARLY!!!

I really love ur writing and hoping to one day read (and maybe print out) every story you've ever written bc GODDAMNIT I NEED THE FEELING OF THOSE WORDS ON WORN PAPER WITH AN ARTISTIC COVER AND AN AMAZINGLY HEAVY WEIGHT

why the hive fckin suck at its job: a rant

spoilers for tgwdlm ahead!

first of all, it's important to consider what exactly the hive's job is. my answer is... who the fuck knows. literally. what is the hive's aim. what do you want Paul? more like, what do you want hive? let's find out!

it kinda evolves, as the play progresses. the intial aim of the hive, and one that does actually remain consistent is the constant burning need to grow and devour and gain more and more (insert capitalism metaphor here).

however, this is distorted by the people it possess who influence that aim, as we'll see later.

also the fact it crashes into a theatre displaying Mamma Mia gives the hive the motive it need to fit the world around it to the structure of the musical. having no originality of its own, the hive instead just picks up what is given to it. kinda like an evil baby.

it wants uniformity, that is indeed its ultimate goal and desire, no duh. it thinks it can achieve that through musical theatre, shame that the hive is dead wrong. cause the hive fucking sucks at its own job / aim / ultimate purpose / one concrete goal that motivates all its actions.

can't maintain control over its subjects

okay, so, the hive wants uniformity. it wants everyone to be dancing to the beat of its own tune. right? yeah. shame it literally can't keep its own possessed subjects in line at all. at the risk of sounding like the 10th doctor waxing lyrical abt humanity for the 50th time, humans are really difficult to control cause we're not really motivated by an altruistic allegiance to one primary good. we've got icky emotions that often move us to do stupid unpredictable stuff way more. it makes me wonder if the reason the hive wanted to use musical theatre to try and persuade ppl was cause it seems to think that is how theyll get emotive humans; through emotive songs. anyways. let's look at some examples shall weeeee?

Mr Davidson:

so, Mr Davidson. funnily enough, he's the guy whose in part acting as the hive trying to figure out what it wants through his interactions w/ Paul. every person it possess gives it just a bit more humanity and curiosity abt the world it is currently taking over. at least I think so. hence why as the musical develops u get character's like possessed!Alice wondering 'why does it hurt to love?' - the change in music and mood to something much more introspective really suggests to me that the hive is beginning to question the thoughts and emotions of its human hosts.

Mr Davidson is a family man through and through, he loves his wife Carol. she's his muse, his source of light. his feelings for her are not concrete or easy to explain and solve - hence why his sudden ahem demand of her is so hilarious and also jarring. it completely clashes with the 'I want song' which is simple, and often pushes forward a wider cause. not so with Mr Davidson, he just really loves his wife man. enough to break a frickin alien possession.

tbh I think its hilarious that (at least to me) the hive has to force him to forget and continue with the song, like, he straight up is just talking to his wife in that phone call, talking, not singing. so, no possession until he reverts back into song. ergo, the hive cannot maintain the uniformity it wants. even from the get go when theoretically its control should be stronger cause it has less ppl to co-ordinate. bad. at. its. job.

Paul:

this one hurts folks. yes, I know it's generally agreed, though somewhat debated that the state of Paul by the end of the tgwdlm is not purely possessed. I agree. once again, the hive is unable to truly enforce uniformity.

at this point, the motives of Paul and the hive are kinda just mixed, neither fully human nor fully alien. hence the constant shifts between pleeing for her to get away, to hide, to stay safe: 'what if the only choice is you have to sing to survive' and just full on old style hive nastiness 'let me puke in your mouth and just open your food bin girl' (so romantic 🥰 /j).

the hive has gone away from its original aim, and become something... different. no longer stuck to just one type of genre or style of song, it's really clever to show the developing complexity of the hive by showing how it is now juggling lots of different motifs with references to all the old songs from before recontextualised in a new way - its learning. evil baby... no longer uniform.

general miscommunication:

there are several instances of the hive not fully having uniform control over its subjects. for instance, right after not your seed with the three teens having to like... calibrate. they aren't just completely connected then?? also, this is a very small thing, but uhhhh at the end of inevitable when Paul is about to say the apotheosis is upon... the chorus interrupts him with USSSSSSS. interruptions??? not very in sync of u hive.

I think this inability to exert uniformity is also shown in the contrast between genre of musical theatre. my alien abomination cannot decide whether it wants to be the more modern edgy rock musical (join us (and die), not your seed ) or super happy go lucky old style musical theatre (lah dee dah dah day, and inevitable). it tries to do both, even while trying to encourage union, and sticking to one thing. hypocrite!!!!!

2. aims are guided by the people it possess

so, I mentioned this a bit already, but the hive isn't only mutating the humans, the humans are mutating the hive right back. this is more an interesting observation than any actual analysis but let's goooo.

greenpeace girl:

I think it's very likely that greenpeace girl is one of the first to be possessed. This is probably easily debunkable but whatever this analysis is flying by the seat or its pants anywayyyyy. why? cause where else would it pick up that whole 'this planet needs fixing' thing? it's interesting too, cause it morphs from expressing the desire to join hands and sing together, unity and peace with no actual action behind it. this then goes right to the other end, with the hive going 'fine I'll do it myself' and trying to save things by enforcing a dictatorship on the world. it develops and changes, and strays from its original means of accomplishing its aims! speaking oooooof...

3. inconsistent in means of accomplishing aims

okay, ur an evil hive mind. u think musicals are the way to win over these silly humans cause they're all weak and emotive and seem to respond to them. but, wait! schwoopsie! you haven't realised that for emotional depth and growth to mean anything, you need there to be established development and well... growth. otherwise the sentiments are as vague as the ones expressed in What Do You Want, Paul?

this show has genuine emotional moments, just not really during the musical numbers WITH EXCEPTIONS. any strife is smoothed over quickly, and so the development and change that would have to go into such growth is just gone. (see, You Tied Up My Heart) all so it can achieve its own desire to grow and grow and grow, maybe a metaphor for art being killed under late stage capitalism??

what actually matters is the impact the songs have afterwards, in causing a death - because we have a bond and care abt these characters. those short scenes between Paul and Emma are actually way more resonant than any song. except... inevitable, and also not your seed a bit. at this point the hive has learnt a thing or two, and can actually twist human emotion a little. but for it to do that, it has to reject the uniformity it prizes, and be adaptable. point towards being more human than it first thought? methinks so. and yet it's just not enough...

it's also why let it out, to me, feels really ingenuine. Paul has expressed himself in much better ways already. what they're doing is clearly paining him, and hurting the guy. he's terrified bless.

you can't force someone into being emotional vulnerable, man.

it's why all the deaths for the characters who are forced to express themselves are really violent, involving them being ripped open - literally forcing them to expose themselves from the 'inside out' as Alice reflects in Not Your Seed. you can't force genuine emotional connection, it has to be fostered, shown in the much more affecting relationship of Paul and Emma. the only reason the hive actually has power over our characters is because of these genuine emotional connections, which it tries and often fails to take advantage of, resulting in just resorting to brute violence. messy hive, very messy.

at the core, the musical's a kinda attack on that toxic positivity mindst: trying to force people to reach the sort of easy solutions by sharing feelings in a way that feels pretty invasive and deciding you are instantly fixed. the problems these characters face are jarringly not really what you'd expect a character in a musical to face, cheating, a lot of it, mid-life crisis. problems that are bland, or wayyyy too real. this is purposefully done, to reveal just how silly the hive's aim to use musical theatre to solve everyone's problem is. life is more complex than that smh.

4. a human can write a much more expressive, and genuine song than they ever could lol

u know which song I'm talking abt. what more is there to say. so much for making persuasive songs to tempt people over.

this was a stupid point lol. basically I'm just bitter that this hive took a bunch of perfectly okay ppl and gave them hive brain. screw u hive. these guys are supposed to all be 'individuals' on one level, but also 'appendages of a much larger organism'. there's a little too much individualism and fracturing to be cohesive enough to do that I feel. the hive to me is not an infallible, unstoppable force, in fact, every human it takes over only brings it closer to understanding us. so that's maybe a slight positive note??? idk ?! I just have lots of thoughts and feelings abt this musical even if this doesn't make sense I'm proud i wrote it down hehe.

Not only does he understand his environment, but he also understands his own body and his motorcycle as if they were also part of that environment, as tools at his disposal. He understands how that hoverbike works, and he understands exactly what he needs to do in order to fly it the way he wants to. He understands it's weight, its capabilities, its speed, and it's power, and the same can be said for Keith's own body. And it's because of this incredibly logical understanding of it that Keith is able to utilize it as fast, and as efficiently as he does. An example would be this. "I know just how much this bike can and cannot handle, so I'm going to take the Shortest route, because The Weight is too much, and it's slowing us down. If we're too slow, we'll be caught. If we're caught, everythings over. Do we have time to readjust everyone's weight and discuss more options? No." This was shown, not explained, and only understood through observance. Keith Knew the bike was slower than it usually was because of the added weight caused by way too many people on it, so he took the shortest route that would lose their enemies the fastest-- Which was off of a cliff.

We know this, because this makes sense, and was even commented on in canon by Keith himself, and Lance. Lance complained about their enemies gaining, and "Can't this thing go any faster?" To Which Keith replied, "We could lose some non-essential weight." This wasn't just a jab at Lance, (something which is annoying to Keith because with a full understanding of their situation, how slow they are already, the stakes at hand, etc,) this is lance reiterating something Keith probably figured out before he even started up the bike.

It was a half-serious truth and an explanatory answer to lances question. So not only does this answer hold more truths to it than you may realize, but Keith probably found it pretty annoying as well, to be told something he already knows and is currently already 12-steps ahead in dealing with. Being told this can make you feel underestimated, and like others are treating you like you're stupid because instead of trying to understand you and what you're doing, they're going off on you. If Keith saw how half the fandom depicts him (reckless, stupid, wild, and making arbitrary decisions all the time in place of the Analytical thinking he exhibits), he'd be /pissed/. I doubt he'd be happy to see people looking down on him, or flat out dismissing him altogether for their lack of understanding.

It is when you understand that Keith IS this way that you see how smart and capable he is and why. He is not special for no reason. He's not this "cool loner kid genius" stereotype for no reason, or just to be a stereotype, because he isn't. At all. He's incredibly intelligent, and puts an extremely heavy amount of logical analysis and understanding and marries that Intelligence to Physical Reality. things like tools, environment, weight, motion, weapons, machines, and even his own body.

This is why you see him doing the most dangerous, wild, reckless things, and consistently see them done Well, pulling them off seemingly effortlessly and without a hitch. It's not luck. It's not just instinct. It's an extreme, pinpoint-accuracy understanding of the world around him and the way in which he affects it, and how. He has it, and he's intentionally using it for it's exact intended purpose.

Shiro as a character is best friends with Keith, and a born leader because of his ability to understand others and approach them appropriately. It is because of his understanding of people that he is so close to Keith, and values him as much as he does because Shiro actually does understand all of this about Keith. Shiro doesn't favour Keith as a student, cadet, and pilot arbitrarily. He favours him because he knows he's good, because he genuinely is, and Shiro understands how and why through seeing the way that Keith works. Shiro uses that understanding of people, and in turn, Keith, to approach, interact, and influence him to the best of his ability. Keith most likely understands this about Shiro as well.

Another example of Shiro's great understanding of others can be seen in how he interacts with Pidge as well, quickly ascertaining her character, motives, and even identity within a day (As evidenced by him repeating her fathers quote back to her when she was down.) He later reveals he knows her identity in a moment of privacy, safety, and comfort, because it was appropriate and wouldn't freak her out, and he did this knowingly for Pidges comfort, and for the betterment of their relationship. If he had done this any other time, for any others reason (like say, out of the blue, for no reason at all) it would've been weird, mistimed, invasive, and threatening. Shiro knew this too, which was why he didn't reveal he knew right away. From this (and many many more examples) we can gather Shiro does this with everyone; Understanding them, and then utilizing them and influencing them to be the best they can be. Which is what makes him such an effective leader. I hope this explanation can shed some light on why Keith is not a reckless child full of anger relying on baseless emotions and doing everything flight or fight, Why he is given as much attention as he's been given instead of Lance, and why Shiro favours him as much as he does.

I am getting so sick and tired of Fandoms fanatical devotion to Lance and presumptuous characterization of Keith. They treat Keith as if all he is is some hyper-emotional child acting on anger lumped in with an emo stereotype-- As if being the best fighter pilot in his class, the pilot of the Red Lion (the most difficult to mater) pulling off as many dangerous feats as he does and fucking piloting the black lion, The lion which will only take Born Leaders, for pilots, is all just a fucking accident and means nothing, isn't deserved or shouldn't be possible-- And they treat Lance like he's the main character and deserves the world just because he's entertaining and relatable, and should, therefore, be coddled and babied. Not only is it gross, but it's insulting and shows a clear misunderstanding for who Lance is himself and his own character. Lance is not the type of person that wants to be coddled or babied or taken care of (By Shiro, Keith or anyone really). If he saw how fandom portrayed him, he'd probably be disgusted too.
