Alright, guess it’s time to address the apocalyptic legal elephant in the room:

For those who might not know, WotC plans were leaked to “update” the OGL in what is basically a scorched earth policy with regards to 3rd party material/creators in the hopes of cutting out the competition and forcing people to use their new products. 

As someone who lived through the 4th edition/pathfinder schism, the situation is laughably similar:  D&D is flourishing more than it ever has (thanks primarily to the OGL) but the execs at Hasbro want more of the money spent on the hobby to wind up in their pockets. Oblivious to the fact that the opensource nature of the game is what draws people to it,  they task the design team with creating a proprietary virtual tabletop through which they can sell d&d content without having to worry about books or pdfs being pirated. This rightfully outrages the fandom and burns every scrap of good will they had towards WotC, resulting in a dead edition that’s maligned years afterword as folks hop to the newer, easier game system. 

The thing that’s different this time is that the d&d playerbase has grown exponentially since the days of the first OGL, with 5th edition being the easiest version of the game to run/pick up and so many resources online, there’s almost no barrier to entry besides finding a stable/accommodating group.   Hell, with the explosive popularity of liveplay series you don’t even need to be actively playing in order to be in the fandom.  All of these people are networked together in a fandom hivemind spread across twitter/reddit/youtube and WotC just made an enemy of every single one of them with its shameless and destructive cashgrab.  No streamer or 3rd party publisher wants to give Hasbro 25% of their revenue, to say nothing of having their project “cancelled” if WotC sees it as a threat to any of their current projects ( see the huge number of spelljammer materials published after the company dropped the ball). 

It took about two years after the announcement of 4th edition for Paizo to come out with pathfinder, and I have no doubt the OGL leak kickstarted every major 3rd party publisher brainstorming some legally distinct version of the 5e ruleset. In the coming months I expect to see a number of these surrogate systems floating around the internet in much the same way that the onednd playtest content, but spurred on with the added “fuck you Hasbro” energy. After that, it’s only a matter of time till one of the big streamers picks up one of these systems and popularizes it, not wanting to pay the 25%tithe to WotC. Personally my money’s on Critical Role: they were one of the major factors in popularizing 5th edition and they’ve got the fandom pull to legitimize any claimant to the throne. 

To step away from playing oracle for a bit, I’d like to finish up this post by dunking on WotC:

HOW FUCKING DUMB TO YOU HAVE TO BE TO TURN YOUR ENTIRE CUSTOMER BASE AGAINST YOU IN ONE NIGHT? This is some new coke/Reynolds pamphlet/invading Russia in winter levels of shooting yourself in the foot. Wizards was on shaky ground to begin with given that they’re coming off a series of notably disappointing products AND trying to launch a new edition/virtual tabletop/battlepass system, but to follow that up with a retroactive rules change that lets them outright steal from or shut down creators? It’s laughable.  Maybe, MAYBE they could have made this work if they were knocking it out of the park with new releases every year and cultivating a base of diehard WotC loyalists, but the fact of the matter is that aside from the brand name, the hobby has largely passed them by. Everything that Wizards does, from player options to settings to monsters to rules modules, someone else does better because they’re willing to take risks and put in the effort. Aside from the elegant simplicity of 5e’s base system, I can count maybe two pieces of actual game design (piety from Theros, ship combat from Saltmash) that I consider usable at my table, which is SAYING SOMETHING considering we’re nearing the end of the game’s ten year golden age. 

I know we’ll weather this storm, we always have, and regardless of what happens I still know my friends and I will enjoy gathering around the table and slinging dice even though we might not be playing “dungeons and dragons” in a couple years time.  I’ll keep my eye on the horizon, and let you know where I find safe harbour.

Helluva Rewrite: Millie

Okay, i dropped my phone in water and was so scared i'd ruined it, but thank the gods it was fine. Though it's fucked so i'm going to post all the IMP redesigns in short order before it dies and i lose them forever. Onto Millie!

I wanted Millie to read as a country girl. I remember being like ‘oh, that’s her voice?’ when I watched the first episode, because for some reason it just didn’t match her design for me. I considered giving her back the white splotch in her hair, but decided to change imps and give fem imps white horns. I’ve got two guesses for why it was removed: 1) she was originally trans and it was changed 2) the dimorphism of imps was thought of after the pilot. Either way, I like it. I suppose the explanation for this version since her horns are fem is she might have been born intersex?

I wanted her and Moxxie to contrast in their designs, as such she’s wearing less while he’s fully covered, she’s tall he’s short, etc... Now, as a Wrath imp, she has a darker skin tone and has spikes on her body.

Now, as a character, i'll build off of what the show has given us.

Supposedly Millie is secretly very insecure? From leaks she’s like willing to die because she thinks she’s holding Moxxie back and in Unhappy Campers she had that whole breakdown. Now, I think this actually could’ve been built up a bit.  

In the rewrite, Millie is the youngest of her five siblings and the second girl. Now, from the bat lets make her a bit of a drain on the family. They hadn’t planned for her birth, and it was another child her parents had to take care of with limited money. She picked up on this when she was little, realizing that her parents often cut corners and struggle, and she perceives this as her fault. This ties into how she mentions her family going to Loo Loo Land, except in this it was once and was specifically for her birthday. She knows her parents had saved up for months to afford the trip and feels innate guilt for it. Boom insecurity explained. 

Now, in this Millie meets Blitzo first. They bump into one another once Millie moves away from the Wrath Ring to Pride to try and alleviate her parents’ stress. During this time Millie has been working as an assassin for a couple months and ends up bumping into Blitzo who was hired by a different person to kill the same target. This would be during Blitzo’s attempt to start his business in hell killing demons. They fight for a bit, then realize ‘oh wait... let’s work together!’ so Millie was the first to join IMP. 

Millie trains endlessly. When she isn’t doing her job, she’s at the gym. She is constantly striving to be the best because her parents pitted her and her siblings against one another (unknowingly, with things like the harvest festival). As a person she is very observant and emotionally intelligent. She is very kind and loves conversation. She also is very tight with money, and very appreciative of any gifts she receives because she grew up with little. She treasures things genuinely and is just all around a very genuine girl. 

Now, other than fighting, she is fairly mediocre at anything else, due to the culture of Wrath mainly being kill or be killed and you have to be tough. One hobby and talent she does have and is working on is singing, something she shares with Moxxie and works as something they can do together. Millie loves to play guitar and sing and is constantly striving to improve. On the topic of Moxxie, Millie loves him deeply and wants only the best for him and some part of her feels like she isn’t enough. 

All around I want this Millie to come off as a very confident and genuine person, trying her best to push down the deep feeling within her that she is a drain on everyone around her. So when people start showing her with praise rather than screaming in agony she is enthralled. She loves the cheers of crowds, as it was often Sallie Mae getting cheered on during the Harvest Moon Festival while Millie was always second best. She wants that kind of adoration and acknowledgement.

How the OGL will affect YOU the Player

Gamer Solidarity is important, but here are the ways it might affect you the player. If the new OGL happens as it was written in the leak, here's how it might affect you, the person who only plays - It WILL cost you more money - WotC/Hasbro wants to move to a monthly subscription. One D&D would see you paying a monthly fee even if you're not online. So if you're using something like Roll20 or Tabletop Simulator, you'd be paying licensing fees for D&D on top of whatever they charge to use their platform. (they also want to do micro-transactions, which could also make it pay-to-win, but I'll cover that in another point).

It will be harder to find a group - Gamer Solidarity means a lot to a lot of people. Those of us who are mostly unaffected are still likely to side with the creators of the content we love. People are going to be refusing to play the new version, and moving to totally different systems or playing the old versions straight from the books. It's also going to be harder to find somebody willing to GM, which leads me into the next point -

There will be less GMs - Even if you somehow don't care that it's goinng to cost more for GMs, the new OGL will make it harder for them to run the game (which, BTW, 5th is already a lot more work for GMs than a lot of other systems) it's going to make the pool of people willing to run D&D smaller. Just don't play the new system you might say? Well, WotC has made it so it costs licensing fees to run it with Roll20 or Tabletop Simulator- and they're charging GMs more. Not to mention how if a GM uses 3rd party content, that content may not be available anymore thanks to the new OGL. Also, if you manage to find a GM running the newest version, the micro-transactions WotC wants to add in will make balancing encounters much more difficult.

Your favorite 3rd party creators will probably leave D&D - There's a lot of content that's been published under the old OGL and instead of grandfathering that in, WotC wants to just revoke the license. These means legal action could possibly be taken against them, even if they're publishing for versions of D&D that are out of print. The new OGL also means that WotC is allowed to just TAKE their content - so for fear of having their IP stolen, a lot of creators just aren't going to make things for D&D anymore. For ANY version.

Public Play will be an even bigger nightmare - This isn't really the OGL here, but this monthly subscription and micro-transaction BS only rewards those with cash and you WILL find yourself at the table with some asshole who bought a bunch of crap and is making the session all about them. I was there, I saw it happen with 4th.

None of this will affect me! - Well, good for you I guess? If you already have a steady game group who is all financially well off enough (or has a member willing to sponsor those that aren't) and you're all excited to try out the next edition D&D - cool, but if there are enough of you, you're supporting the people who do NOT care about you or the game. All they want is your money - and wouldn't it FEEL better to put that money somewhere better? (if your answer is to play in person, with an old edition, from books you already have, you're actually already kinda supporting the movement against the new OGL - be vocal about it)

Final Points - WotC didn't make D&D, they bought it. We aren't talking about a creator trying to regain control of their IP here, we're talking about a greedy company that wants to squash the competition. 3.0 saw a huge D&D resurgence into popularity, thanks a lot to the OGL. They tried messing with it before, this is why 4th edition gets shit on so much - I was there. (4th is actually a wonderfully accessible system and corporate greed messed it up). Fifth is so popular because the OGL came back, because content creators could make stuff for the new system again. WotC wants to STEAL these creators content. It's baked into the new OGL - they want the 3rd Party Creators to pay WotC royalties but if they take your self-published content and print it in one of their official books? They owe you jack-all. This will change the face of how IP legally works if it's allowed to just happen. It sets a DANGEROUS precedent for large companies to be able to retroactively steal IP.

Call to Action - Be against it, be loud, share with others WHY this is bad. Vote with your wallet, because that's all that WotC cares about- they have shown us now more than ever before, they do NOT care about you or the community. CANCEL YOUR DnD BEYOND if you have one - they have actually said this internally that the only numbers they're looking at as proof of if this will work are the DnD Beyond memberships. Cancel it. Might I suggest Roll20, Foundery, Tabletop Simulator, or Obsidian Portal for storing your character sheets for now?

Okay now, this actually makes sense. If you are a whistleblower you don't share the leak on your own personal pages or make a new one just to spill tea with zero followers. Not if you are serious about your info. You get people with a network to do the work for you. (sounds familiar) At the very least one with an email list.

Overall this is cautious optimism because who knows what the news could be. Some theories we have:

Comic/Graphic Novels: plausible, given the history of WN. Would be good to align the current creators with the NF series.

Novel Series: very plausible, Dean English was on the OCS Conclave with a WRITER next to him. People. 💥💥💥

Expanded Universe: very plausible, in the same panel with Dean English and the WRITER, they revealed they were working on the long-term story of Warrior Nun. That's not just a movie or a final season of WN.

Movie: plausible, while disappointing, look at ALOTO... Final 4 episodes, which works out to be a long movie. Other cancelled series have also gotten wrap up movies. So long as it's Avatrice focused we can live with this.

Podcast: unlikely, this would be a huge slap in the face of the fans and one would think the source would not be dumb enough to hype up a podcast. While great for the Doctor Who fandom, WN fans only want one thing.

Literally Nothing: very unlikely, as mentioned above the source is not willing to risk their own flesh by pissing off a very angry audience. Also, the person in charge of the Substack is not some random fan. You can see on the tweets that link to the newsletter the name Trust Insights (because tw hates Substack links so they had to reroute the click.) Netflix Repentance: plausible, but very skeptical about this one. Even with NF recent "change of heart" around their viewing metrics (as of 3rd week of June) they have shown a consistent ignorance of audience demand. But who knows, maybe they are just broke enough and need the money to pay some overdue bills.

AppleTV/Streamer Pick-Up: plausible, now this would be one impressive shake-up during the WGA strike that is still ongoing. And unprecedented because, as we all know, NF doesn't sell the rights. (But then... how can Dean talk about books... and how can Simon say Dean is the person to ask about Video Games... And why would Simon say "the people who own the rights" but not name NF in Empire Magazine... while being very clear that he (Simon) can't get the season 2 bloopers because NF owns the footage... nah, must not be important.) Complicated legal things. But doesn't mean NF couldn't lease out WN to another platform and that platform could make more content... hello HBO/NF deals. Again more delusions.

So all that to say... Something is happening. We don't know what, but you don't send a fandom into hype unless you have something really good.

August is a very manipulative person, but he is also very smart about it. depending on what he wants and who he is with he is able to put on different faces, and lean into or away from the truth.

This difference is most clear between Simon and Sara. August lies constantly to Simon, he lies about the initiation party, he lies about money until he can't anymore, he lies, or at least withholds the truth about the parent's day dinner, and probably more that I just can't think of right now.

But with Sara, August is more truthful in a way. Mostly in season 2 (so my memory of it is a bit blurry) but August is seemingly telling the truth to Sara, and it is almost like he is the only one doing it. Even starting at the end of season one, August tells Sara plainly that she can apply for funding to be a border, and in the first episode of season 2 when August had his panic attack, that's really, that can't be put on and even if it could august wouldn't have.

And this is after Sara has been lied to again and again by Simon, gotten little support from her mother after Micky shows up (Slightly understandable seeing as Simon's thing is a tad bit more pressing), and doesn't have many friends other than Felice (Stella and especially Frederica don't seem to care much for her). And In season 2 he is really the only one helping her to get what she wants.

Also, when he says that he feels guilty about the video leak and wants to apologise, it does feel genuine, not only just to Sara but to the audience too. We see him alone, without anyone else and he does seem torn up about it, at least in season 1, after Wille pays for his tuition, he feels bad for what he has done (probably because of the tuition thing but regardless). But when push comes to shove, the truth of what he is actually feeling doesn't matter to him, he will still do whatever it takes to keep up his worsening reputation. anyway, my point here is that whilst he is more truthful with Sara, I do still believe it was all a manipulation tactic he just knew that lying to her would get him nowhere, so he used the truth to his advantage.

Going back to the original point, he is a very different person to each of the two, and because of that, and because the other doesn't really get to see August's other faces as much, they have very different perceptions and opinions of him.

Also, something I find very interesting is that this happens with other people in the show as well. it happens between Erik and Wille, his classmates, he is able to do it with the school staff, and in season two the royal court, although maybe not the most effective.

Watched a bad cam of barbie the movie and the gender essentialism that was. debunked. in. the. sixties. made my brain leak out of my ears.

but maaaaang this is the prettiest film set with the most gorgeous costumes I’ve seen in at least twenty years. All that colour, actual saturation T_T it’s magnificent.

Cut for major spoilers and thoughts (will collate this later into something less messy)

In a nutshell, very fun movie. Not very good as a *Barbie* movie unless you've only bought them since the body diversity of 2016 but formed your ideas about them in the early 90s. The fans will enjoy easter eggs but not anachronistic plots.

well. i may need to kidnap greta gerwig and explain solidarity along other lines than being handed the crappy gender and this might take a while since clearly this hasn’t crossed her mind or ever existed in her world. I may have to use Barbie and wheelchair Ken being politically aligned since neither fit into the dreamhouse as blunt props then move on to asian ken who’s had one or two more dolls than allan, one of which is an expensive hard to find samurai caricature. Then maybe we can talk about why there are no sanitation work barbies despite kids loving trash and toilets as concepts and what magically happens when cleaners and garbage collectors strike.

HOWEVER this isn’t a feminist movie and never was. To judge it more harshly than any other blockbuster isn’t really fair. ((That won't stop me of course because doing a queer or marxist reading of Rugrats in Paris can be entertaining.)) I loved the dances, I loved the sets, I loved the costumes and throwbacks. But Kens being all what about the menses after getting friendzoned and them being walking stereotypes was miserable and so unreal. 

Kids don’t project that onto their dolls who are busy being genderqueer adventurers in the wildest telenovela you’ve ever seen... creepy mommybloggers do that. 

I’ve talked before about Hallmark movies being made not for the demographic represented on screen but mothers of adults or teens who want their kids to find fulfilment in a life close to their parents, back “home”. Pixar movies that speak to the office politics of the parents who brought the kids to see the colourful funny film. This is more of the same and the massive disconnect comes from knowing that Barbie - and dolls in general - are only projections. Ms Gerwig sees something I don’t and never have seen except in the choices that Mattel has made as a company to try to expand and appease the consumer base (covered earlier, it wasn’t always gen pop like now but mass buyers for retail chains).

You don’t get personal issues from Barbie, you get them from society and other women and a world run by men making them feel inadequate. Barbie isn’t skinny or a slut or anything value/morality based until long after you’ve absorbed those concepts yourself, projected them on many other women then finally see Barbie wearing or doing something you could never be allowed.

I moved house about once every three years as a kid, some of those changes were to radically different social (and literal) climates: going from evangelic rural USA to a east germany then back to working class UK gave me mental whiplash. I found myself age 8 dissociating to the point of having to be guided by the teacher in the changing rooms after sports at school unable to decide what was right or wrong about removing clothes then taking a shower with the other girls. I didn’t know how to reconcile the vastly different but strongly held beliefs about bodies. Age nine I’d move to a place where you don’t show bare legs, age 14 to a place where it made no sense to locals to not be in small clothes half the year. I was a mess.

But Barbie was never a symbol of anything except how much money your family were willing to spend on birthdays. I couldn’t understand what my parents saw in her that was in any way inappropriate, girl wears whatever her current occupation requires, her body designed to never be fully naked! It’s a toy - why do they make animals talk and give food a face? Toy logic is why. Ken, Barbie Clone, Pony, Ninja turtle, Snoopy, Teddy, Rock with eyes on it all occupy the same ungendered and also highly gendered, depoliticized and highly political IT ME and IT HERO and IT CUTE space.

This wasn’t for the girls gays and theys but white liberal parents worried about a symbol that’s not even a symptom that barely registers compared to what’s printed on a cereal box: pretty skinny white lady, eating with a grin, looking so rested and happy, hers has fresh fruit and drizzled honey because she gets to have fancy breakfast not you, calories per portion, portion size that’s not a real portion that fits a cereal bowl if you actually weigh it. Bollocks staring at you every breakfast time. 1 of 300 messages your kid will take in that day. 

Rest assured dear parents that Barbie does not even factor, her profession doesn’t last more than an hour out of the box: drama and far more important issues must be attended to. Unlike a gun which can only be a gun, anything Barbie comes with or finds can be a weapon or a magical artefact.

Nitpick number one Barbieland has no horses ???!!!!??? First thing sis did when she had her own pocket money to buy Barbies was get the horse. The horse no-one could ride of course. Slightly better scale than mylittlepony G1 Bow Tie.

Love Simu Liu's era of riffing on his buff like a ken doll image. Between this and The Other Two he's done a lot to deconstruct toxic masculinity (and bite the MCU hand that feeds him, how Boyega of him) . I know twitter has some beef with him (no idea what that's about) but as far as I can tell he's actively working on breaking stereotypes placed on him with each new role.

Really loved the dig about money not being speech in barbie supreme court. The details are impeccable when not in service of the odd ken redpilling plot (he just wanted purpose and horses) or the awful will ferell 'comedy'.

I’ll do a rewatch as soon as a better quality version lands and possibly combine it with Ghost in the shell - Innocence which does a lot of talking about dolls, gynoids, icons, idols and the image of self contrasted against Matoko who’s basically decided to be formless for a while.

Initial conclusions :

Threading the tiny needle that is Barbie the doll as she is played with and collected by children and adults vs Barbie as she is perceived and made symbol of women's issues was never going to be easy. As a toy story, it works. It's beautifully designed has a decent message about women being told to be perfect and a weak one about men acting out when they don't have purpose and having to find their own value.

The flat feet were the first red flag because barbie had flat feet from the 80s onwards: all gymnast bods, beach bods and many fashionistas and made to moves. So it's pick and choose barbie eras depending on what suits the set up for this ken/barbie conflict. We're also throwing Life in the Dreamhouse completely out of the window. We're ignoring Ken being important to gay men and the gay men designing for Barbie. The queer eye is vital to Barbie's worldview and longevity. All of Barbieland Kens are straight and clueless. No Blaine no Ryan ok I can accept that, but no gay Kens is very hard to imagine. I liked the gender non conformity of Kens though, that was very much in line with modern Kens such as Dennis Bahl the green BMR.

As a Barbie story, things start to get complicated because Barbieland isn't a match to what's happened to the Barbie universe IRL. The body diversity in Barbieland and single names is post 2016 only. The aesthetics of the (play)sets are 80s-90s. The careers are partly 2016 +, partly 80s-90s except that Ken had plenty of careers pre 2016 (& as far as I can tell he's been a dogwalker, farmer and a vet since 2016) but it's a massive plot point that he has no career or purpose here. It's the parents choice to buy him as an accessory/comphet love interest or as his own character not a Barbie 'canon' rule.

So you set up a conflict based on the fact that Barbie sometimes came with a same occupation Ken as accessory but set in a post 2016 world where you *choose* if to have a Ken and never get one just to have the Barbie. We're going to ignore qll the times recently where you couldn't buy Barbie without her sisters.

Ken does exist without Barbie to collectors of male dolls. Some of which are little boys who are allowed Kens but not Barbies.

I'm glad for the pg13 rating because Ken's been designed carefully to counteract the 90s potato Ken stigma that made him so clearly the guy doll. Since the Blaine, Ken is just one of the crew of friends and a potential boyfriend, sculpted to look as friendly and unthreatening as possible. I really don't want kids who had a non segregated crew to start The Gender Wars unless that's something that's happening in school.

Emptying my head of all that Barbie lore was too difficult on first viewing. My views on ken are basically brunette potato ken is an afterthought but blonde ken since they got back together has been shaped by himbo, sometimes glam ken... with LitDH golden retriever ken being the main idea in my head. So Gosling's blond Ken starting out supportive himbo and quickly revealing 'nice guy' tendencies felt so wrong.

You know what? I want the edit where Ken's dickishness is cut out and Barbie's crisis takes the main stage. It felt rude to have her movie undercut by incel Ken and it'd be a much more focused story to have Barbie and Gloria vs the world and Ken realising he is kenough as a side plot.

A dressing room leakier than Old Trafford's roof: why fans must ignore the nonsense

Another day of drama for Manchester United. Another day of ridiculous media coverage because guess which club has the biggest news pull.. that's right, it's the (temporarily not so) mighty reds.

Unity is needed to fix our poor form, but I think an inquisition is needed to root out the leakers because it's boring. Years of shit being passed out from Carrington like it's a paper note in a classroom. Grow up.

Does Erik Ten Hag have favourites? Perhaps. Does this mean you should down tools? Absolutely not. The attitude here forgets several things:

You are an asset in of yourself. If you give up, other teams notice. This will lessen your value for a sale.

United are in a rough spot, and perhaps this poor start means we fail to make the top 4 this season, but if - in the grand scheme of things - Ten Hag gets United playing the way he wants to then so be it. I want us fixed, and I'm willing to back this manager to get it done. If everyone was pulling the same way, trying, and it just wasn't working then fair dos, Erik might not be the man, but no. He hasn't had his preferred first XI. He hasn't had players properly trying. He's had issues with leaks, player insubordination, scandals off the field, and the takeover farse.

The little girl sneezed. Maybe I should call her “the female infant gremlin” or the “little female troll.”

“Why are you so cute?” Akane smiled at her daughter, whose face was confused and sleepy.

It was little Maemi’s first time seeing her house. It was a nice apartment. The roof didn’t leak.

“Ababababa,” Toshio babbled from his crib. Maemi, his younger twin, was sleepy. Toshio was not.

Akane didn’t think she’d ever have kids, let alone find love. It was all about providing for her siblings until high school came around.

Sitting in a rocking chair, Akane wondered what her life would’ve been like, had she never met Nekomaru, her husband, her best friend, her manager, and basically the person she had gremlins with.

For starters, she’d still have that shitty old coach. And she probably would’ve worked her ass off for her siblings while they got better careers or possibly gambled their own asses off.

And she wouldn’t have kids. She wouldn’t even consider college.

For some reason, she was thinking of her younger sister Tohru, who was only a year younger than her.

Tohru would’ve been the one to benefit most from all of Akane’s earnings. She wouldn’t spend it recklessly, but she’d be the one who could use it best. While Akane worked all day, Tohru had gone to a nice middle school.

Akane didn’t like the idea of her children having to work their asses off just for one of them to go to school. She didn’t want to bring over the wrong people and end up traumatizing them. She didn’t want to treat them so horribly they’d run away and grow up traumatized.

Akane didn’t even realize that she had grabbed both Toshio and Maemi and started rocking them to sleep until she snapped back to the present.

Akane yelled, motioning for Tohru to run after her while an old man chased them through an alleyway.

“Jokichi, catch!” Tohru tossed their younger stepbrother the wallet.

Jokichi caught it while the old man decided to chase Jokichi. Akane groaned internally, going after Jokichi to make sure he didn’t get hurt and lose all the dough they just stole.

The five minutes that she spent having to make sure Jokichi didn’t get hurt or lose the money and get beaten weren’t put to waste.

Once they got home, Akane, Tohru and Jokichi huddled up and around the dining table.

In a way, there was some sort of a formal seating arrangement. Well, not so formal.

Akane and Tohru were just on opposite ends, being the eldest two.

On one side of the table, Ankoku, Botan and Dai, the middle children who were triplets, watched as Akane counted the cash.

On the other side, one seat was left empty, since there were only seven of them and there were eight seats. This was the side where Seiji and Jokichi sat. Seiji was willing to take Akane’s place as the breadwinner, but she always refused. So he resorted to being a good student with his education, provided that his siblings made enough money to pay his tuition fee. Seiji resold candy that he picked out of garbage bins.

“Hey, this is enough for your tuition fee next year, Tohru!” Akane beamed at Tohru. “And we can order takeout from that cafe big sis Akane works at.” Jokichi added.

Then the back door swung open. All seven of them ran into their ragged, putrid room.

A tiny crib, which was positioned right in front of her bed, had two little silhouettes in it as she stared down at it from her bed. She could only assume that her kids were finally asleep.

And now she was the one who was awake.

She remembered that one occasion when it was Nekomaru’s birthday and they had just gotten married a few months ago, and they ended up…y’know, doing something that usually ends in unwanted kiddos.

Akane remembered his reaction to that time when she told him about them expecting a child. It was something she’d never forget.

Seriously. Nekomaru had started crying on the spot. She could remember how happy he looked—how happy he was.

A few months later, they found out that they were having twins.

Every time something good came up about their kids, Nekomaru had cried tears of joy over all that.

Akane wondered if he’d still cry about every little good thing that happened to them once the kids grew up. It wasn’t a bad thing.

But she really couldn’t forget when she actually gave birth to two squealing gremlins, when they actually got to hold their children for the first time.

Nekomaru had been ecstatic, just crying his eyes out, clutching both infants, sobbing and sniffling.

Akane didn’t realize that he just woke up. And the first thing he did was smile at her and just pull her closer.

They were always like this. She didn’t mind being married to an affectionate, sweet person who she knew she could trust. She loved every second of her life with her little family.

Now she was being hugged and kissed. Nekomaru was always so nice to her, being sweeter than candy.

About an hour later, Toshio and Maemi had been crying. Did they need to be fed? Obviously. But even after they were fed, they were still crying and screaming and clawing at their parents.

Parenting was a full-time job. There was no such thing as a furlough or break.

“Just go to sleep already,” grumbled Akane. “They can’t understand you.” Nekomaru put his hand on hers while kissing the back of her neck from behind her.

Toshio started calming down, gurgling and cooing as he wriggled onto Akane’s chest.

Maemi, who tended to copy Toshio, ended up doing the same. She squealed and gurgled, babbling as Akane pulled her closer and stroked her back.

Nekomaru wrapped a leg around Akane’s waist while he felt her wriggle a bit. It gave him a comforting feeling, knowing that the only woman he’d ever loved was still right next to him, still living and breathing, and still in his arms.

So he'll probably play it tonight, because Zo told him his name is out there. Which means tonight, I will be EXPOSED if I don't play this so so carefully.

I truly don't know what I'm gonna do tonight. I'm trying to put the vote back on Hairie, because if Zo is willing to work together for a bit, that's a good thing. And if Hairie has a successful idol play, and I need to vote him out, it'll be all the easier to do so later once he has a(n even bigger) target on his back. Plus I'm not ready for him to go now that he's being honest with me again. Then I vote Hairie, he plays his idol, he takes out...idk, Adeline maybe? And we move on from there, with me not looking like I'm playing both sides.

This was the challenge I knew I could not win because it's just a tough one for me personally. What I did want out of this was to be in the top half so I can get some coins. AND THAT I DID.

Idol hunting

I already managed to snag an idol from the festival stand. So all that's left to do was find the other idol that is not in the marketplace. Today (5th September) got on call with Trinica to catch up and that we were worried no names are out there yet. While doing idol hunting live, I took a risk and it was REWARDING because I FOUND AN IDOL on my 4th hunt attempt. Like woah !!

And right on queue even when Zo (we've both not talk game at this point) came to me and said she's heard my name and wanted to keep me and work together. She also told me she's heard Arvin's name and that her name was also circulating out there. I was shock about her name.

Raffy then told me they've also heard Arvin's, my name and Zo's.

Oh I also bought a festival merch from Raffy and gifted it to him to repair our trust.

Quoting Zo's word: "Adeline is the one who told me and sort of alluded that trinica said it but i don’t think that would be true? "

Quoting Adeline from a couple of rounds ago: "I honestly hairie just don’t know what’s going on, and i feel pretty much like i can’t play with you or trinica individually because you’ve made it clear that you are a strong duo regardless of the tension, and that things will be leaked in between y’all. It doesn’t make me wanna be honest with either of you, it doesn’t make me feel like a valued number at all. And i said the same to trinica but i feel like I’m floating on a boat rn lol"

I of course immediately exchange notes with Trinica. We've discussed about us not having any game talks with Zo but there was never a mention of pushing Zo's name. In fact other people were telling us to watch out for Zo. (I can't remember who I heard it from).

This round:

Jinx prefers Arvin but Arvin is a number for me and Trinica (we've made it known to people).

I think Colin going is better for my game and Trinica's. The problem with that is that nobody but Jinx is receptive to the idea (for this round). Plus I don't want to make Raffy mad at me or us.

Knowing this, it would be good to convince Jinx that keeping Arvin here would be beneficial for them too because Arvin will be a number to vote for Colin when Jinx wants to.

Adeline wants me gone and is very anti Hairie and Trinica - According to Raffy and what his POV is from convos with Adeline in DMs.

Zo has shown that she want me around and sharing this information.

The middleground that we all can meet at this point is to vote for Adeline. And I'm not oppose to the idea so I hope it works.

I have not heard from Amy, Colin, Brandi, Adeline or Arvin (3am 6th September SGT).

I have to catch a call with Zo and Jinx separately. Then a call with the host pets chat.
