Robert let out a slow breath and then took a long sip of the beer, hoping it would dull whatever coursed through him. Inevitably, the coverage mentioned Robert himself. The warnings for foul-mouthing the refs, though it was a while since he’d done that. The bad reputation. The woman in the bathroom. The scandal. The heartbroken ex-fiancée. Robert clenched his fist.

If the last couple of weeks of clowning have done anything for me it’s given me the desire to rewatch robron for really the first time in 4 years!

Last night I was too tired to start so I just decided to give myself a quick teaser and watched one of my fave scenes - Aaron revealing the affair to Chrissie and OhMyGod how fucking good was it?!! I’d forgotten the levels of drama of ANGST.

This lead me down a rabbit hole of watching clips from all eras and just basking in how damn GOOD we had it. I hadn’t appreciated for so long what it was about them that captured me so much.

honestly teenage me was so sensible to get hyperfixated on emmerdale instead of any of the superwholock shows. while everyone else was shipping characters and desperately looking for hints that they might get together one day, i was just quietly enjoying the utter toxic gay chaos romance that was robron :)

Doing a special Aaron post with the spoilers this week, because I have some thoughts... and because it's Robron related as well.

Firstly, when I opened InsideSoap I was a bit shocked there was no article about Aaron opening up about his painful past. Except there was, waay back where they stick the C plot stories, so I am not expecting a lot. ⬇️

I think the take away here might be that we get a replay of kayak boy unfortunately. Aaron yelled a bit at him about Robert too when the Luke/appeal stuff happened and there was some stormig out as well, I think. In the next scene, Aaron said he would choose kayak boy over Robert if he came back tomorrow (yeah, sure) and they became 'official'. I'm expecting the same to happen here. Especially after reading the metro piece, they are pushing hard to sell things that most people can't see if they squint ⬇️

I'm expecting the boyfriend word to be used soon. (Which I hope means is because someone is coming home for Christmas and Aaron needs to be in a relationship then, in the eyes of the show.)

Also, what exactly has John learned about Vic? Absolutely nothing on screen, as per. Other than the fact that she sticks her nose in people's business.

We also have the pair on tuesday, as seen here in this picture where they are intimidating Tom together 🙄 Notice how they are lumping him in with the Dingles? Rebuilding the Sugdens... Right! ⬇️

So that's Aaron's tuesday and wednesday, on thursday he gets caught in the crossfire at another fight, and is hurt. Luckily, hero medic boyfriend-in-waiting is there! ⬇️

On friday, Chas is worried, more likely due to Aaron's injuries than his mental state, like we originally thought. But that's a first that she puts worrying about Aaron over her love life... ⬇️

Q. Hello, I really do love your blog. I actually came across your blog following a Sherlock post, so I know you have good taste. I'm not exactly fandom savvy so I will admit that I might have responded too strongly to the initial B/T excitement, but I went back and re-watched the season through the perspective of your's and a few other blogs. I now think the story you and others believe they're telling is the story they're setting up. I actually kind of feel stupid for not seeing it initially. But how do you think the show is going to get their breakup? Do you think Buck or Tommy will be the one to call things off? Will Buck or Eddie make the first move in getting them together?

A. Haha, Sherlock, wow you went deep into the vault of my blog for that one! You are absolutely not stupid. Overzealousness to the initial newness was always going to be a thing. I promise you that didn't surprise anyone. Adjusting too and participating in any kind of fandom involves a learning curve. What sucks for you all though, unfortunately, is your learning curve came as a result of the wrong people taking the lead in your fandom. So you all had to learn everything the hard way. Sadly I'm an old mom when it comes to fandom, lol. Yes I was there for Sherlock (Cumberbatch not Downey, but I love him too so don't @ me). I am still part of the Robron (Robert and Aaron) fandom, but I cut my teeth in the Chrolli (Christian and Oliver) fandom. That one taught me many cruel lessons. So don't ever feel stupid about having to figure things out. The majority of the messages in my ask box now are from people like you. People who were very excited and very into it, maybe a bit too much, in the beginning, but are less enthusiastic now. Just like the initial over excitement was expected the come down you and many others are experiencing now was also expected. Most of you were always going to get over it almost as quickly as you fell in love with it. It happens. The show knew it would happen as well. Lou did too, it's why he way over did things in the beginning. He knew he was on a clock. I will say that your fandom did show me a first though, and that's having the show and actors blocking multiple members of your fandom. I had never seen that before. And that's not a legacy you want to be a part of. Any fandom whose leading voices openly encourage and promote sending hate to the actors and the official show accounts is a fandom not long for existence. I one hundred percent believe that their eagerness and public bragging about sending Ryan messages wishing he had committed suicide is what prompted Tim/ABC to put an end to the cameo nonsense. They were never going to allow that level of depravity to continue. So you're really just reading and acknowledging the writing on the wall. So welcome back 🙂

As for the Buck and Tommy breakup they have a few options. I go back and forth between who should officially end things. Any way the show goes though it won't be a dramatic breakup. The show hasn't established this as being a serious relationship for either character. So either way it's going to be amicable. There's no need for it to be anything else. I have mostly believed that Buck, narratively speaking, needs to be the one to walk away. It would show nice character growth for him to be able to acknowledge and see the pattern this relationship is following and finally break the cycle. But if they lean into Buck's very real fear of a relationship with Eddie maybe leading to him losing both Eddie, and Christopher, I could see them having Buck double down on his determination to force the relationship with Tommy to work. That would put Tommy in the position of having to be the one to walk away. And I think that's probably the way the story will go. And I want to stress to everyone that this is fine. It will be obvious Buck doesn't want the relationship, but is staying because he's afraid of the relationship he does want. So even if the show has Tommy be the one who officially ends things, it will still be because Buck is in love with Eddie. Do not spend time overthinking who does the breaking up. Why they breakup is the important part. Don't get caught up in the semantics.

As for who will make the first official Buddie move, I think it will be and needs to be Eddie. I just don't see the build up on Buck's part not being about his abandonment issues and genuine fear of losing Eddie and Christopher if the relationship doesn't work out. And believe it or not, anon, Eddie is usually the more level headed of the two. So I think Eddie will need to be the one to help Buck realize that it's okay to jump. Getting Buck to take the first leap will be the hardest part for Buck, but once he jumps he will be all in. Then it will be Buck's turn to walk Eddie through all the firsts he's about to experience.

Oh no, OP! I get it! I was in the Chrolli fandom as well. The way they treated Christian's character development was just terrible. It was like complete character assassination. I was so hurt after that, that I never even rewatched any of the earlier episodes when things were so good between them. I couldn't. Like the OP said, it was cruel.

I agree that it will probably be Tommy who will break up with Buck, after Buck had his realisation about Eddie. The 'My attention?' line has to come back in season 8. It was too obvious.

As for who will make the first move with Buddie? I am still undecided on that, but the OP does make a compelling case in her answer.

I know the writing on Emmerdale has been shit for a long time but I still think there has to be a reason they’re putting Aaron with another Sugden vs anyone else they could have put him with. So many people assume Ryan never wants to come back but I think he’d come back if the story was good. Aaron being in a relationship with a brother Rob didn’t know he had and them starting an affair only this time Aaron is the cheater is a good story (especially given their history).

And while yeah Emmerdale could just be trying to copy Robron by having Aaron and John hit some of same story beats they also have to know that’s not a great way to get your audience endeared to a couple. Like if they want us to eventually care about Aaron and John as a couple shouldn’t they be distancing Aaron from Robron? Yet they’re not. They’re practically holding up a sign saying remember Robron? Why would they do that unless they're trying to set up an eventual Robron reunion?

They seriously could have brought in anyone for Aaron if they were looking to have a new love interest for him. Why have it be a Sugden when they've already gone down that route, twice actually because Aaron dated Vic before he came out. Plus soaps are always looking for the drama. They don't just introduce new characters for everything to be rainbows and sunshine. John was introduced with the intention to cause drama. The main person he would cause drama with would be Rob. No one else in the village would have as big of a reaction with Aaron dating this guy as Rob would.

I'm not a fan of what the show is doing with this John and Aaron storyline but if it does eventually lead to Rob coming back then I'd deal. The fact is the show really does need a Robron reunion and this isn't just my biased shipper brain talking. The show hasn't been that great for a while now and they really need something to revitalize it. If they were able to get Ryan to come back I know a ton of people would start tuning in again. They need the kind of chemistry that only Danny and Ryan together can produce.

Sigh...they're writing Plotdale for me again.

So I went back and watched all of the surrounding Aaron scenes from yesterday with Mack and Vic and then watched today's stuff.

I really quite like seeing Aaron have friends for the sake of this plot. So like...that's a positive. I've always thought Danny and Lawerence worked well together and had good friend chemistry. If they could actually stick with the friendship outside of plot specific needs, that would still be really good for both of their characters long term.

Because Mack teasing him about the whole John thing is exactly what the Ben nonsense needed back in 2020/2021. I mean it would not have saved that utterly abysmal attempt at a story but it would have made it slightly more palatable.

And I do like seeing Aaron and Vic having scenes together again.

I also very much liked seeing the garage be a functional set again. I feel like maybe it has been more lately from what I've seen in the spoilers but for so long it really wasn't and so that was also nice.

As for John...I mean...I do feel like he was sort of okay when interacting with everyone else. But he and Aaron just have no chemistry. And I don't really understand what they're trying to do with them. Like I guess...it's supposed to be an enemies to lovers thing maybe??? But there really was just zero reason for him to drive off with Aaron's keys and wallet yesterday. So their hostility towards each other over it just feels empty now.

I mean..what even was that whole little punch/shove thing they had at the end? And I feel like they had them linger close to each other in a threatening manner like it was supposed to be turning them on in the same way the Robron wall slam worked but like...it did not. It was not the same at all. It was just dumb.

And John just feels like another one of those characters that's got a tragic backstory that will come out in one, two months time and be a big deal for two episodes and then somehow that will solve all his problems and then he and Aaron will just magically get together after that and he'll move into the village and none of it will feel earned in any way. That's just the vibe I get. Probably because that's the only kind of story they tell these days and they're all bad.

Because right now he's just unnecessarily hostile to everyone but they can't have him open up and say why yet cause we have to wait for some kind of stupid pointless reveal.

Sigh.

The only time I felt anything in terms of romantic tension was when Aaron learned John was Robert's half brother and she mentioned that Aaron used to be married to Robert. I swear any time Danny gets to be Aaron talking about or thinking about Robert, all of a sudden his acting performance improves. Ryan doesn't even have to be there to elevate his performance. Actually, Danny probably doesn't even have to act. He's probably just like "Wow man I miss Ryan too".

So...yeah...love Aaron having friends. Love seeing the garage be functional. Aaron has way more chemistry with Mack than he does with John, even if it is more friend chemistry than romantic.

Day two...not much improvement on John/Aaron scenes together.

Oh also...just the fact that it took that many coincidences and contrivances to even get Vic to that funeral and place her in John's path...like dear god. Why is this their only way to tell a story???

I don't know if there are any Buddie fans here who watched Emmerdale and was as hopelessly in love with Robron as I was, but if so, you will understand that I suffered Chris's farewell as much as Seb's💔

The fact that I don't know if Gavin, and therefore Chris, will return honestly devastates me, because I fear I will never be able to see the show and Buddie's relationship with the same eyes again. Among other things, I hate how the whole thing happened, what they did with Eddie's character, the interactions with Buck, yet another attempt at redemption for Eddie's parents (totally failed for me, in fact I hate them even more). There would be a lot to talk about and analyze, I think I'll do a more in-depth post (I've already started writing it actually, but I started crying halfway through and can't finish it😭)

I tried vibing some sunshine your way! I'm in England and we don't seem to get much of it these days, so maybe that's why it put me in such a good mood today.

I'm the same as you, only got into 911 properly after 7x04 (though I'd watched lonestar since the beginning - apparently everyone hates Rob Lowe but I still see him as Sam Seaborn from the west wing (one of my all time fav shows) 😂).

I've got no idea why there are so many interviews either, and maybe it's adding to how bad some of them are? Like it's diluting whatever messages Tim et al are trying to convey because they're doing it every week and there's only so many teasers you can keep coming up with?

If the current plot resolves with Tommy coming back by hiatus, or by the end of 8B, then the earlier interviews about hurdles to overcome, deepening the relationship, their romance being a romcom, Oliver saying he likes slow burns, etc etc will all make sense - but then the intervening interviews since then will look like total bullshit/outright lying? Idk, I know alot of interviews are by buddie 'journalists' and words can be misquoted and written with a bias, but some of them still seemed pretty clear the current relationship is over. Plus there's the interviews mentioning plots to come that definitely never happened, so I think I'm just back to wanting to ignore them as they cause too much unnecessary stress.

Plus why focus on the stress when the fic and speculation is fun. I've enjoyed mpreg before but never this much 🤣, for me it's the combo with the angst of a breakup makeup that makes it just chefs kiss.

And finally a robron question as I am pretty out the loop with it, do you think there's any chance of Ryan coming back on the horizon??

I never watched Rob Lowe in anything before Lone Star really. Not REALLY. sometimes i see things and i'm like 'wait... he was in that???" - i did see some gifs (i think) of him and lisa edelstein in another show where they *also* played a couple. I don't remember what show that was though. But yeah -i've always preferred lone star over the OG. Even now every monday is like "oh hiii babies!!" And i don't think the fandom is as fucking rancid as the og fandom can be. (not the bucktommy fandom - i love everyone in this club, but you know what i mean) I've never seen anyone so *violently* hate tarlos and send hate to Rafa or Ronen just because they're not the person they think the other half of the couple should be with. Even my fellow Nancy/Marjan shippers (all 5 of us) who don't want Nancy with Mateo don't go around harassing Jules.

ANYWAYS - the interviews are bullshit. I mean Tim teased tension between henren and madney over mara, he teased eddie being the third wheel and buck not having time for him, he teased buck leaning on Tommy with the Gerrard of it all - none of that happened. And if you look at the quotes from Lou's interview especially it's more up in the air like "i have a job lined up, i'm going back to SWAT, and a few other things coming up and if they call me to come back i hope i'll have time" he never said he definitely 100% will never ever ever come back as Tommy. That's what the buddie baiting "journalists" turned it into.

And yes speculation is half the fun! I mean how many speculation fics has this fandom written the past six months? Or this-never-happened fix its. Or Tommy-was-there-after-all- fics. Keep 'em coming people! I'm not keen on mpreg fics though but hey if you're all having fun with them - have at it! I know how to blacklist and keep scrolling ;)

As for Ryan coming back... I REALLY hope so... but realistically speaking... i don't think so. But if emmerdale wanted to prove me wrong and give me Robert Sugden back for Christmas, i wouldn't hate that! just FYI @ soap gods

I totally agree with you about soaps not being about instant gratification. Soaps allow storylines to grow over months, sometimes even years, that's one of the best things about them! Maybe Robert isn't coming back but I do believe that the scenes we are getting at the moment are for storyline reasons and are definitely not to upset a small group of online fans (who actually claim to not even watch the show). Sometimes storylines don't go in the direction you think they will or want them to, but there's always another episode coming which could change things. It is depressing to see people claim the producers are incompetent just because they haven't done a very specific storyline that might only appeal to a few people!

Oh yeah I agree they are definitely for a reason, that reason might not be Robert returning (though I maintain there is a good chance it is) and it might not be something I end up liking, but they have been written to set something up.

I think fandoms can be quite insular, sometimes, maybe even most of the time, the bigger picture gets lost. But something I think us Robron fans need to keep in mind... though our initial enthusiasm and the online engagement was welcome and the reason the show re-thought their plans for Robron and Robert to be short term, the reason they continued to invest in them is because during the abuse storyline the general audience grew to love them and became invested (and because they are characters who are easy and fun to write for)

Robron were not a niche fandom couple like Vanity, they were big hitters like Coira and Jimmy and Nicola. The show really does not care about a handful of tumblr accounts who as you say claim to no longer watch.

ED proved how little fandoms matter to them with the ruthless way they disposed of Vanity.

I realized that I never even posted after watching Ballum's last scene, because it was so fucking underwhelming that I couldn't wrap my head around it. I put off watching it because seeing gifs made me so emotional but then seeing the actual last few scenes I felt nothing, which is bizarre. comparing it to Robert's exit, like... they let that take months and used it to show us that their love really was as epic as we thought, Aaron being prepared to leave his whole family behind, "as if I can walk away from you," and then letting Rob do the most unselfish thing Rob Sugden ever did, to make sure Aaron stayed with his family. then playing their song in the end + that collage... and I just know no Robron fan watched their last few scenes without ugly sobbing. it was the definition of bittersweet with some of Robron's best scenes being during that time. Rob's exit was used to pay fucking TRIBUTE to their love story. and then with Ballum, whose love story played out over as many years as Robron's, Ben's exit plays out over A WEEK, just coming from nowhere, and without any chance of Cal even considering running away with Ben or something similar. and they get one scene after Ben is arrested, and it just... if it wasn’t for aaron id have stopped watching already, the writing’s been even more atrocious than usual. cain’s “confession” was pathetic, are we supposed to feel sorry for him because he ended up not bludgeoning his nephew?

i really do hope this is eventually leading to a robert return because he’s the only person left who actually DOES love aaron unconditionally, idk what they were talking about going on about chas’ unconditional love for him bc it’s just not true lol

I love Aaron. Love him, but if there is no Robert return I won't be able to stick around. Everything else is just too bad. I know we're still getting through the Jane nonsense, I think, I don't know how far ahead her stories went. But I'm going to need to start seeing some kind of improvements no matter how small. I don't know if we'll get that given the other two are still there. At least for now they're still there anyway.

The Chas stuff makes me want to punch a wall. She has been insufferable since the Gracie storyline. That's years of gross, often downright cruel behavior. And nothing ever happens to her. They have used that one storyline, that is years old, as an unstoppable excuse for everything she does. And now instead of actually making her fall and having to earn the forgiveness she demanded tonight they just made her sick instead. They gave her another excuse to be horrible and paint her as the victim. I don't care that she's sick. She's past the point of salvation for me. She's also, unfortunately, not dying at the end of this storyline so none of it will matter. As for Cain I actually thought I misheard him at first, lol. His big confession was second guessing himself because he didn't beat the shit out of Aaron. I mean what??? Too ridiculous to pretend to take seriously.

It would have been odd if Robert hadn't been mentioned tonight. So I don't hold this mention to the same 👀 as the other ones, but it was still the fourth one in barely 3 months, five if we count Aaron's pause in the other episode. I don't see how we can pretend it's not a deliberate thing at this point. There's no reason to keep mentioning him. Aaron started the whole thing, supposedly, because of Liv's death, they could have kept just to that. They chose not to. They chose to remind the audience of Robert (and Seb) on several different occasions. Soaps just don't do that. The new set is still the biggest clue to me. There was no need to build that set for Aaron alone. That set screams Robron. I'm still trying to keep at least a foot in the possibility that he's not coming back, but everything they're doing is making that increasingly difficult. It's really starting to look like a return.

you are right!!! im right before their 2018 wedding, i just watched the 2nd proposal (i mayyy have cried which is quite a feat since im on T lol. aaron's little "jinx" nose scrunch got me sooo bad) i binged so fast from 2014-2018 reunion and now im tryna slow down because i dont want it to end, so ive been rewatching ssw2016 and the 2018 reunion over and over plus i started aaron's coming out storyline too which. knowing about gordon. makes it hit that much harder. but also him going "its not about falling in love" to paddy.. aaron babygirl just you wait.. in 4 years time...... oh my god....

Casualty Predictions/Desperate hopes for Saturday

Okay so we now know that Ryan Hawley is on the board in casualty and he's an acquaintance from Cam's past. What we don't know is if he is a negative or positive influence (but it seems very positive due to him being a mentor type figure in Cam's life).

BBC I am begging you. Pleading even. Please give Cam some love. We've had some absolutely phenomenonal performances recently and you know what we need?

We need Cam breaking down, tears running down his face and all hope lost. But who can save the day? Who can be that glimmer of hope to hold Cam and tell him it's all alright?
