god I hate publishers making authors describe their upcoming books as "X meets Y!!!!"
I know it's not the author's fault. I know they're being made to do it and they probably hate it too. but it still puts me off and makes the book sound like slick BookTok trash that's MarketableTM above all else
just read a description of a book that actually sounds really good, described as "Rebecca if the Bronte sisters wrote it." the plot was, and I cannot stress this enough, NOTHING like Rebecca or anything written by the Brontes. it was historical fantasy about two people entering into a professional relationship in a creepy haunted mansion, to break a curse. that bears zero resemblance to either of those things! it's just Also Spooky!
and now I don't want to read the book, because my brain interprets "like X meets Y" as a sign of a Social Media Besties-focused book that's not very good, despite knowing that they make all authors do that nowadays
(willing to bet the poor author was up until three AM banging their head against the wall because their publisher told them "you HAVE to compare it to two other things!!!!" and finally just said "you know what? Rebecca and...uh...the Brontes. now leave me alone")
#I'm trying to be deliberately vague but like#what does that even mean#I feel like Rebecca But The Brontes would be the exact same story but set in 1840#the story of Rebecca is pretty adaptable to different eras#and it does not. involve a business relationship.#I want to be published someday in some capacity but shit like this makes me reconsider my dreams#because I do NOT want to do the Social Media Trained Monkey song and dance#authors are so patient these days. godsspeed all of you

Could you plez do one where da bnha bois react to the reader doing a not PG tiktok dance uwu (like todoroki, deku boi, baku boi and maybe azaiwa with a father daughter thing?)
AN: This ask was so long ago. I’m really sorry but I have your prompt now so I hope you likey. Just a heads up I’m an old woman in a young body I don’t use TikTok and I don’t even know what people use it for and I only know one song that was popular on there and it was Doja Cat’s. So thats the song there you go phfft. I was short on time so I only did Bakugou hopefully you don’t mind that and the smut. You didn’t specify but you did say NOT PG so you get smut !!
Warning: Explicit sexual content between Bakugou and female reader. Read at your own discretion.
---------------------------
Bakugou gritted his teeth as he seethed, everybody fucking knew how pissed off he was today. All the extras were acting cautiously like they were walking on eggshells. Except for half and half who acted nonplussed like usual. He shot a glare to Y/N who was innocently sitting a few seats away from his.
‘Look at her acting like she didn’t just ruin my entire night yesterday.’
It started like a normal day, Bakugou trained after class like he usually did before heading back to his dorm room. Until his phone’s notifications went off, he glanced at it and snorted in disgust when he noticed it was from TikTok of all apps.
It was shitty hair who downloaded the app for him when the rest of the morons had gotten on his nerves. The red-haired idiot got his hands on Bakugou’s phone and messed around with it. After Bakugou finally calmed down he snatched his phone back, flipped the bird before stomping away.
He should have deleted it right away, the only reason he didn’t was because of how excited Y/N seemed to be for him. She was ecstatic when she followed and made him follow her back. Bakugou honestly didn’t get the hype, it was just a stupid app for a bunch of worthless people who had nothing better to do but dance around like monkeys and post it on social media. So, he left it on his phone but rarely used it. Bakugou was too busy trying to become the number one hero and surpass All Might. He didn’t have time for this nonsense.
So, imagine his surprise when he was lying in his bed late at night, deleting all the unnecessary shit that people sent him throughout the day, he noticed Y/N tagged him in a TikTok video. For reasons unknown to him, he opened the app and watched the video she sent him.
The first thing he noticed was the lack of clothing Y/N had on. She wore nothing but a tank top and tiny shorts that barely covered anything. There was a sensual song in the background he didn’t recognize, he watched transfixed as Y/N danced. He never realized how flexible she was, the way her hips seemed to flow made his mouth water. It was then he noticed some unfamiliar side character appear behind Y/N and grab her by her hips. They then danced together, ending with Y/N on his lap basically grinding on him.
What the actual fuck??! Did she have no shame?! Furthermore, she was a hero in training she couldn’t be doing this shit online! What if one of the teachers found out what she posted, and she got in trouble?
Despite his incensed thoughts, he replayed it over and over again, his eyes unable to stray from Y/N as she smiled coyly. He lied there in his bed hours later unable to sleep, each time he closed his eyes he imagined Y/N in his arms dancing seductively. Bakugou groaned when he realized his cock had gotten excited again and without her being here to resolve it. He just waited miserably for the sun to come up and end his torment.
When Bakugou came into the classroom that morning, he was exhausted and sexually frustrated beyond belief while the object of his desires sat in the front laughing away without a care in the world.
His awful mood gave off an aura that made everyone stay away from him, which was good because he needed space when he got Y/N alone. Bakugou was going to get her to resolve the problem she caused last night whether she liked it or not.
He waited until lunch break to make his move; he didn’t think he could wait till the end of the day for this. When no one was looking, he grabbed Y/N by her arm and dragged her back to the dorm rooms. All the way there Y/N kept resisting and loudly protesting his treatment of her. He pushed her inside his room, slammed and locked the door to his room. Bakugou turned around to shoot Y/N a smirk.
“What’s the big deal Bakugou? Why did you drag me here?”
“You! What the hell were you thinking sending me that video?!”
Y/N sighed in relief. “That’s what this is about? Oh my god! You scared me I thought I pissed you off or something.”
He scowled as he fought the itch to blast something with his quirk.
“Who was that asshole you were dancing with?! Tell me his name so I can blow him the fuck up!” he growled.
She pouted, “I thought you would like my dancing. But you seem even more irritated than usual.”
He grabbed her by her arms and pulled her close. He really wanted to jostle her a few times for even thinking that stupid idea.
“Are you fucking stupid? Why the hell would I like you dancing with some other guy!”
She snapped back, “don’t call me stupid! In fact, I’m-“ she broke off mid-sentence like she just realized something. Y/N stared at him for a few minutes before she broke out in a brilliant smile.
Bakugou eyed her warily, wondering if she lost it since she was just about to go off on him a minute ago.
“You’re jealous,” she purred.
He scoffed as he looked away from her.
“You are! You probably wanted me to dance only for you huh?!” She winked at him.
She quickly took off her uniform’s jacket, leaving her only in her skirt and a white undershirt.
“What are you doing?”
“Dancing for you,” she murmured as she fished out her phone and played that familiar song from the video.
Y/N made Bakugou sit down on his bed as she started swaying to the beat. He held his breath when Y/N started teasing him by popping a few of her buttons open before she stopped. She started rolling her hips as her black, soft hair swayed side to side.
He bit his lip as he tried to contain his groan, seeing her dance in real life was better than any videos.
When she finally sat on his lap, he couldn’t help himself as he tried to touch every inch of her soft, curves.
She slapped his hands away. “No touching,” she softly scolded before pecking his lips.
Bakugou blinked his eyes in surprise.
Y/N moved his hands behind him. “Keep them there or I’ll stop dancing.”
She moved off his lap but thankfully didn’t go too far as she backed up against him and started grinding.
He couldn’t contain his moans as his hips started desperately rutting her soft behind.
“Fuck the dance, Y/N,” he whispered as he brought her completely onto him.
He unbuttoned his uniform slacks and pulled it down a few inches to reveal his hard cock in his thin boxers.
With her skirt, it was easy to align her wet panties and his cock tenting in his underwear. He swore underneath his breath as tingles started erupting in his body as he could feel how ready she was for him. Bakugou grabbed her hips once more without being slapped away and started guiding her at a pace that suited his needs. Y/N could feel that bundle of nerves get more and more sensitive each time she made contact with his body. He had imagined her last night on her knees as he took her from behind, but he would take anything she can give now. He connected his lips to her, tasting her soft pink flesh. She tasted like the watermelon gum she was chewing in the classroom before he pulled her out. Bakugou was getting frustrated, no matter how much he bounced her on his lap, he didn’t get the angle he wanted. With a growl, he lifted her off for a few seconds allowing his legs to spread a bit wider and angled his hips just right that jutted his cock out despite being contained in his boxers. He pulled her back down and thrusted before letting out a loud moan at the sensation.
‘Fucking perfect’ was his last coherent thought as he frantically lost himself to pleasure. His drastic thrusts lost finesse and rhythm before he finally succumbed to the orgasm he needed since last night.
Bakugou slumped over in relief. Y/N kissed his forehead lovingly.
“Feel better? Now that all your stress is gone let’s start dancing for real,” she said wickedly as she pulled her white undershirt over her head and revealed her breasts encased in a red lacy bra.
The sounds of a bed squeaking and the remnants of the song were overshadowed by the echoes of feminine delightful moans and gravelly groans.
“Day to night to morning, keep me in the moment. I’d let you had I known it, why didn’t you say so?” the phone’s audio was drowned out as it ended on its last notes.

Hamefura Idol AU! (part 2)
Here’s a completely unrelated Katarina idol art by @Sangotofura on twitter!
This is a continuation of my first post, the one that is more of an overview of the original FL game and the original descriptions of the characters. I don’t know if I want to write a story for this, since again this is just an excuse to draw, but I’m really having fun with expanding the alternate version of the world of hamefura.
It’s a lot of fun to rewrite hamefura’s story to fit in an idol setting, so I hope you guys don’t mind if I write a bit more for my dumb au dhjgfjs
More tidbits about the ‘Game’:
The game’s name, Fortune Lover: Cinderella Idol! or “Fortune Lover”, is read as “for-tune lover” by the fans (get it? tune?? pls laugh). The ‘F’ of the name is written as a fortissimo.
In the setting for Fortune Lover, the entertainment industry is the biggest industry of all time, with music being the most popular form. It has been like this for decades, and as time progressed, people’s tastes and expectations of music evolved, leading to the creation and popularity of idols.
Idol-Producers are a new project that is testing the capabilities of a idol teen, observing how their involvement in their own success can impact how they manage their time and how they can bring the absolute best out of themselves, on their own. Maria is the first idol who will be testing this new style. She is still a producer to herself, the boys, and even Sophia and Mary if you choose to have them join you. Despite being an idol, they still call Maria their “producer” and treats her like one.
The characters in the game are in 3D CG, as the game includes the dance choreography or “MV Mode” if you perfect the score of the rhythm game.
While Katarina’s bullying isn’t really death threatening, it’s more in line with the petty kind like verbal threats, sabotaging Maria’s idol clothes and stage equipment, paying someone to mess up her tracks during performances, badmouthing her infront of tv show producers and hosts, and stuff like that.
Katarina’s bullying isn’t as bad as it is in the original otome game, but she gets shunned by the public because behavior like that is only supposed to be done behind the curtains. The public has such a pure and honest perception of idols that they never think of the idea that the girls who smile and sing on stage actually try to stab each other in the back when the stage lights are off. Some people think that Katarina’s character is just a persona, so knowing that she is actually an ignorant and arrogant rich girl idol-wannabe, her fans lose respect for her. Katarina’s harassment of Maria is one of the few cases that are brought to light by the end of the game, and because of how much the public loves Maria by that point, they are enraged by Katarina’s behavior, making her lose support on all sides
Katarina had been in love with Gerald ever since they were children, and while Gerald has always been a popular boy among both his peers, when she found out Gerald was going to be an idol, she disliked the idea of sharing her beloved Gerald to a huge audience of people, so she became an idol to stand alongside him and to make herself worth of him by charming him as as an idol and gaining a large following herself. Despite this, Katarina didn’t strive too hard to be a talented idol, as she was too confident on herself due to the pampering of her parents.
Even if the player doesn’t desire to romance any of the four boys, given how the game is written and how it is programmed, the boy with the highest relationship points with Maria will confess to her by the end of the game. It would be impossible to not interact and gain points with the boys, as you gain relationship points in most areas of the games (when you “practice” your characters, when you “play” their songs, when you “give” them new clothes, when you “converse” with them in story mode, etc.). In the event that there are two characters with the exact same amount of points, the game will choose a boy for you.
Sorcier Pro.’s current president is Geoffrey Stuart (for reasons that will make sense someday)
Katarina-Gerald and Mary-Alan aren’t engaged in this au, but are constantly in each other’s presence due to most powerful bussinessmen and celebrities being good friends with each other.
Each girl has a specialty in a certain area: Katarina with dancing, Sophia with singing, Mary with acting/drama, and Maria (according to the official description of her in the box) with fashion coordination. Maria can be seen as more of a jack of all trades though, as she does represent the player.
While any of the boys can trigger the condemnation event that will lead to Katarina’s social suicide, the event is specifically associated with Keith and Gerald due to the severity of her presence and bullying if you have high relationship points with the two. With Alan and Nicole, Katarina’s event only happens for a few lines, but for Keith and Gerald, it takes place in complete detail, with it’s own animated cutscene.
Gerald’s route is also the most popular among the fans, with community surveys reporting that 53% of the game’s player base had Gerald as their final chosen love interest ( 25% with Keith, 12% with Nicol and 10% with Alan)
Monkey Girl/Past-Life Katarina
Since Maria’s name can’t be change in the game, but you can give her a “nickname” that represents the username of the player, Past-life Katarina’s name in the game is “SaruP” (or “Monkey producer” lol)
Saruchan (Monkey Girl) dies before she could finish her playthrough of the game, and all of her knowledge is based on her idol-expert best friend Acchan. She’s a bit tomboyish, and she loves to climb trees and move freely without a hint of poise or shyness, and is friendly to all genders. Her love for climbing, running, gardening with her grandma, and never ending amounts of energy gave her a pretty strong, flexible, agile and energetic body.
In Saruchan’s world, idols do exist, but aren’t portrayed in the cutesy and exaggerated manner that fiction does. Though it’s no surprise to know that in her world, almost every girl had dreamed to become an idol at one point, even herself. Acchan doesn’t find the idea interesting though, as she only lives for the idealized version of idols that exist in fiction. Acchan explains that girls their age are being brainwashed by the idealized version of idols that are presented in the media that they consume, and that they should wake up and learn to enjoy the fictional idols as they are. Despite Acchan’s realistic disapproval of idol fantasies, she does love playing idol rhythm games and gacha games, and spends her allowance on getting DLC costumes for Maria in FL. Acchan even pre-ordered tickets for herself and Saruchan for an idol concert featuring the VA of the characters, that they were supposed to attend to on the day that Saruchan dies.
She dies the game way: on her way to school and being killed by a truck that runs her over.
The last thing Saruchan sees before she loses consciousness forever is the wallpaper of the game’s boxart from her phone screen as it flies out of her hands.
My Next Life as an ‘Idol’?? All Routes Lead to Doom!!!
As usual, Katarina ends up remembering her future as an 8 year old kid, and plans to prepare for her future “banishment” and humiliation. She learns to farm in order to provide for herself once she gets shunned and retreats to the countryside, and (unknowingly) meets all the characters in the game and gains their good favor before the events of the game begins.
Her head bump still happens with Gerald, but their encounter happened in a party rather than an engagement meeting, with her tripping over a rock as she decides to run to the young man in order to introduce herself. Such introductions never got past beyond their names and few exchanges of dialogue, as the bump occurred and Katarina was immediately brought to the hospital after he called for help.
Being a girl who wanted to be an idol at one point, Katarina wanted to use this chance to fulfill her dream of becoming one! But knowing the fate that will await her, (public humiliation, isolation, and banishment to some degree) she tries to figure out ways to avoid ruining her future.
While not as bad as death, Katarina is aware that the ending of the game implies that the blemished opinion that everyone will gain of her will lead to her leading a miserable life; one that will prevent her from gaining new allies and even studying in peace without being made fun of or called out for. It might even ruin her marriage prospects, for all she knows (it doesn’t but she’s too stupid to know that). The stakes of the bad ending aren’t life threatening, but it is personal, as Katarina always dreamed of becoming an idol as a teen and doesn’t like the idea of being able to enjoy it for a few months only to be dragged down to hell right afterwards.
The Claes is a wealthy family known for her father’s knowledge and skills when it comes to trades and business, and for her mother’s beautiful opera singing voice and celebrity presence. As usual, Katarina’s father adopts Keith for the purpose of gaining a direct heir for the business, in fear that Katarina’s future significant other might just to interested in her to gain it.
Katarina’s plan is to learn how to farm in order to be able to support herself after her banishment, give Keith lots of love so he doesn’t end up becoming a playboy like in the game, and to train herself in dancing and singing in order to not embarrass herself like the original Katarina did. After meeting Gerald again and realizes his weakness, she eventually prepares (or buys, since the setting is modern) toy snakes that she can use to surprise him whenever the condemnation event occurs, using his shocked and panicked reaction as a way to distract the media from the claims that will surely fall upon her (since no one would have expected the calm and collected Gerald Stuart to scream like a girl at the sight of a toy snake, right? That would stay in the headlines for weeks! maybe).
As a kid, she has private singing tutors, and takes more general singing classes when she gets older. She doesn’t have dance training as a kid, but she does like to exercise and move her body around, so it slowly turned into the stamina-filled flexible body that she is used to.
Katarina and Keith - Their meeting and impressions are mostly the same, which the difference being that Katarina used a display axe above a fireplace to break down the door, and Keith got her injured by accidentally pushing her off a pretty high cliff in the Claes grounds while they were both running and playing chase (rather than being isolated for dangerous Earth Magic, Keith as a child was a clutz who attracted danger to everyone around him, making his older brothers make fun of him for being “cursed”).
Katarina showers him with love, making him affectionate towards his step sister, in the same as he was in the original material.
When Keith finds out about Katarina’s desire to train to become an idol, he is very supportive of her, and decides to train with her in order to be able to stand by his sister on stage (as well as to generally gain the same interests as her in order to guarantee that they will stay close as they age). The contrast being that instead of becoming an idol to gain the adoration of millions of nameless faces, he now wants to become an idol to gain the love and attention of a single person, which is Katarina uwu.
Katarina and Gerald - Gerald eventually attempts to visit Katarina to apologize for the incident, expecting her to blame him for what happened, given the personality she showed him. He was shocked to find a scar on her forehead, farming while wearing a farmer’s attire despite coming from a wealthy and esteemed family, singing and dancing to a song as she waters her vegetables. He watches for only a minute, unable to look away from the girl who danced like deflating balloon and sang off key while almost drowning her small vegetable in water. She looked weird, but she was having the time of her life, and he could see and hear it from where he stood.
In a daze, thinking he might have entered the wrong house by accident or walked on the daughter of a maid doing chores. He walks out and leave the Claes estate without a word, and visits again after only a few days, as he couldn’t get his mind off of the oddity that he had witnessed.
He eventually realizes that it was Katarina on his second visit, as he finds the scar of the odd farmer girl on the same girl who boasted about her family’s wealth in the party. After giving formal introductions, Gerald offers to walk around the garden to get to know each other better, in order to continue the conversation that she had originally forced on him back in the party (it was done to be polite and respectful, rather than any interest to continue). In the garden, they pass by the area that Katarina had planned to turn into her farm, and Gerald was in awe at how unorganized and messy everything looked (there was dirt everywhere, the tools were left on the floor because she had to prepare to meet him, there was more bags of manure than what was even needed etc! Katarina internally cursed at her 8 year old delicate rich girl body for not having the same arm strength as her 17 year old self). It was then that it sunk in that the adorable singing and dancing farming girl that he accidentally saw really was Katarina Claes. She wasn’t the very definition of abnormal, but she was nothing like the daughters of his father’s friends that cried when not attended to or complained when not given the best dresses and shoes. There was no shred of worry about her family’s expectations in her eyes, nor expectations of him to act like his perfect and matured self whenever they met in parties, movie premiers or social events, which made him yearn for her company.
After finding out about Katarina’s desire to become an idol one day, Gerald secretly planned to do the same (and even have her recruited in his brother’s agency) in order to become closer to her through her love of entertainment and to have a chance to be constantly in her presence. When he found out about the charms that male idols have on their female fans, he also plans on using this as an opportunity to gain both her attention and romantic affection, by perfecting his (already maxed out) charms as male idol.
Katarina and Mary - The two met during a part hosted by Mary’s mother in the Hunt Estate, inviting all of her mother’s old opera acquaintances, sponsors and co-workers for a formal reunion. Katarina and Keith accompanied their parents to the party, leading them to be introduced to the Hunt Family’s daughters. As usual, Katarina had the urge to “release the chocolate shark” during the party and takes an elegant leave. She eventually gets lost in the estate and finds herself in the garden. Katarina was in awe of the garden’s beauty, and stood still as she watched what seemed like beautiful siren sing by herself near a majestic fountain, with a single rose in hand.
Mary was surprised to hear an aggressive applause after singing to herself. Katarina aggressively complimented Mary for her adorable yet elegant voice, and asked who she was seeing as a singing trainer. When Mary replied that she was not having any singing or vocal training, Katarina rains even more compliments down, claiming that “her voice was that of an angel!”. Mary denied it, so Katarina proceeded to sing the same song that she had sang, as a point of comparison to make her feel more confident in herself. Mary shyly and unexpectedly joins her, and they ended up having a small and quiet duet in the garden. Katarina’s voice sounded a bit rough and squeak-ish, but alongside Mary’s elegant and controlled singing, they didn’t sound bad at all.
When Katarina finds out that Mary is also the one who tends to the flower garden, she proceeds to shower Mary with even more compliments, and asks her to visit and help with her own farm garden. Being complimented for having a beautiful voice and a green thumb made her feel validated and appreciated, so she often visits the Claes household in order to be in constant presence of her first and dearest friend. The rest is the same.
When Mary found out about Katarina’s dream of becoming an idol, she started taking intense vocal training as well as various exercises in order to be able to join her in her endeavor. She slowly built a more brazen and tough personality in order to be able to join and protect her friend from the rumored cold and intense reality of the idol world, as well as due to the antics of her friends.
Katarina and Alan - From Mary, she eventually finds out that the event where Mary duets and falls in love with Alan occurred. Katarina realizes that duet must not have been that effective because she has done the same with Mary, but is confident that Mary is in love with him because Alan is a very talented and handsome individual. A few days later, the fourth Stuart son bursts into the doors of the Claes household, and demands to meet with Katarina. She learns that Alan had developed a small crush on Mary, and that he wants to challenge Katarina for her hand. Same shenanigans ensues, leading up to the piano duel where his talents in the piano was in full display to everyone in the manor.
Katarina knew how to play the piano (just the basics though), so she was in awe listening to someone who almost sounded like a pro! Alan runs off after Gerald compliments him, Katarina chases after him, and they got to talk behind a bush. Alan wouldn’t take her compliments, but Katarina aggressively insisted that his talents are nothing to scoff at.
When Alan says that he’s sure that his brother can play just as good, if not better than him, Katarina speculates that it wasn’t the case, because everyone had things that they are good and bad at. Not everyone is the same, no one learns at the same pace, and that she’s sure even if Gerald can play the piano better than him (and she doubts he can in the first place), no one can play the piano like Alan can. The scores in his heart are his alone, and that nothing is more beautiful than the melody that the heart enacts. Katarina knew that the score he played wasn’t an existing one, and knowing Alan’s character from the game, it’s probably either an impromptu score or one he had composed by himself. Her guess was correct, leading Alan to be caught off guard by her compliment, almost feeling emotional as no one had ever guessed and believed that the music he played was his own, until Katarina did.
She shows off the power of the toy snake to Alan, making him laugh and see his brother in a different light. He still constantly visited Katarina for their duels, but as time progressed, he lost the affection for Mary (as he saw her as a little sister now after interacting with her in the Claes Household) that made him want to challenge Katarina. They still followed up on those challenges, for fun rather than for sport.
When he finds out about Katarina’s dream to become an idol, he is determined to join her in order to be able to compose songs and melodies that she can sing, intending to bring out the absolute best of his muse’s voice with his own music. Someone his age might not be fit to compose songs for an idol, so he intends to become one as well in order to gain a reputation as a competent composer.
Katarina and Sophia - The two meets at an afternoon party hosted by the Stuarts, as a celebration for the birthday of the twins. Katarina had to “powder her noes” after a few trips to the buffet table, and leaves Keith and Mary. She’s chased down by a dog, climbs up a tree, and accidentally watches a group of kids and older bully a small girl who sounded like she was about to cry. The same events occur, up to their second encounter in the party. Katarina accidentally quotes a line from a novel that she was reading, and after realizing that Sophia understood her reference, she asked for them to meet again in order to discuss their similar interests.
Everything is pretty much the same, the difference being that somehow idols were brought as a topic of conversation, with Sophia revealing that she is actually a huge fan of idols. Katarina, feeling reminiscent of her idol-expert best friend Acchan, tells her that she actually wants to be an idol herself and insists that Sophia tell her about everything she loves about idols. Sophia, who is surprised to also find another idol fan who is as young as her, becomes even more excited and tells her all about her love for idols: how they are able to wear such adorable outfits onstage, how they sing songs that carry so much meaning, how they carry their fan’s dreams with them when they dance and sing, how amazing it is to be able to juggle so many occupations at once, and much more.
With both love of novels and idols, Sophia constantly finds herself in the Claes Household in order to talk to Katarina about books, idols, song recommendations etc.
When Sophia was first told that Katarina wanted to be an idol, she was very supportive of her and announced herself as Katarina’s number one fan. As time passed, she realized she wasn’t just satisfied with just watching Katarina from afar, she wanted to sing and dance alongside her! She wants to use her knowledge of romance novels and idols to help make herself and Katarina the best idols to ever exist! She wants to sing on stage about her feelings: about how much she loves Katarina, idols and their beloved novels!
Katarina and Nicol - When he found out that someone had invited his little sister to a small book club, he was very wary, thinking that she was one of the many other girls who tried to use Sophia in order to become closer with him. He was shocked to realize that that was not the case, and that Katarina had barely seen him at all, and had opened his timid little sister’s heart. When Sophia asked Katarina if she found her appearance creepy, Nicol proceeds to explain further, expecting to see a hint of guilt or displeasure from Katarina Claes, only for both of them to be met with unyielding determination to have Sophia as a close friend. Sophia went home that day in tears, thankful to have found a friend who truly wanted to stick by her side.
The Claes siblings often visits their home so the girls can have their book club, even bringing Mary Hunt with them occasionally. Katarina, while looking a bit flustered, is capable of having a conversation with him without averting her eyes, which was a breath of fresh air to the countless camera crew, staff, visitors and even strangers who couldn’t look him in the eyes because how of how much of a beautiful child model he was. It all leads up to the moment where Katarina compliments him with how blessed he is to have such a beautiful and wonderful family, which contrasted against the ignorant adults who pitied him for having parents who refused to abuse the potential of his beautiful face and for not being as beautiful as their son, as well as for having a freakish looking sister.
Nicol, just like his sister, desired to constantly be in Katarina’s positive presence, and visited her often, leading them to be acquainted and friends with the entire group that Katarina enraptured.
When he found about his sister’s and Katarina’s desire to become idols, Nicol thought of doing the same, in order to be able to continue to watch over and protect both Sophia and Katarina, as well to be able to continue being close with Katarina (as their lack of similar interests and age gap might lead her away from him, but tbh that is never gonna be a problem with Katarina). He also plans to use his influence as a child model to propel Sophia and Katarina’s careers, as a way of supporting his two favorite girls.
Notes
I’m not sure how I feel about Gerald’s backstory, I might rewrite that if anyone kindly wants to critique it.
Instead of Mary’s green thumb, it’s her voice that leads her to Katarina and Alan, but I still think Sophia would still have a better singing voice than her, so both her voice and green thumbs both play a part in her character. Mary’s high pitched voice gets a bit deeper as she ages, while Sophia’s voice stays very high.
I really like the idea that rather than the original ambitions and goals that leads the harem to become idols in Fortune Lover, now it’s the effect of Katarina’s constant insistence and declarations of becoming an idol that leads to everyone doing the same. In this timeline, the harem probably wouldn’t have thought of (or planned early) becoming an idol if Katarina never brought it up.
I’m writing this at midnight again, lol, but yeah I’m not planning on writing a fanfiction for this, I guess, but I do want to have an established plot so rather than chapters, I’m just writing a full overview for fun haha
When I mentioned that Sophia loved idols, I didn’t realize that I might have accidentally implied that she was just as an idol fan as Acchan was, but with actual idols this time, so I went with :DD
I’ll touch up on Idol Katarina, Anne, Maria, Sirius/Raphael and Fortune Lover 2 in the next one.
I’m really happy that there are people who actually read my previous post and said that they liked it! Feedback and suggestions are appreciated! I still need a final name for the units so help me pls hahaha.
I’ll rewrite this post when I feel like adding/changing stuff.

When was the last time you swam in a lake? There’s a few photos of me and my mom from when she and her sisters-in-law took me to a certain lake when I was a year old. As far as I know, that’s been the sole time I got a chance to have a dip in a lake.
If you could have anything right now, what would you want? I’d so love a solo grazing box, a bottle of wine, and a scented candle all to myself right now.
What’s your relationship status? Single.
If you could learn any language, what would it be? Korean so that I would no longer need subtitles whenever I watch my favorite Korean shows; and so that I don’t have to worry about language barriers for when I travel to South Korea.
When was the last time someone asked you your age? I’m not so sure, actually. This question doesn’t really come up a lot anymore. My mom does tend to be forgetful though, so she may have asked about this within the last few months at least.
How would you describe your day today? Uneventful, exactly how I planned this day to be. It’s Chinese New Year today and we got to have a holiday off work, so I’ve been super thrilled about the long weekend. This day mainly consisted of taking a survey in the morning, watching a couple episodes of 2 Days 1 Night, lots of vaping, and a quick afternoon nap. Oh and the croissants I ordered from a friend finally came!! I got her assorted set of butter, Nutella, and caramel croissants + pain au chocolat, and the ones I’ve tasted so far have been heavenly.
When’s the last time you ate a school lunch? Last year I’m guessing, since I haven’t been on campus for that long.
Have you ever been on a train? Just once. I don’t like taking public transportation.
When was the last time you danced? This afternoon. Hayley likes penning the most depressing songs masked under happy beats and melodies, so dance I did to one of her new songs, Over the Hills.
Why are you taking this survey? That’s kind of what I do. < Haha, agree. And this one seemed to have interesting questions, so I took it from Lina :)
Do you ever sing in the shower? I rarely ever do, and when I do I keep it very hushed. The echo makes me feel self-conscious.
What’s your all time favorite movie? Two for the Road. I’m due for a rewatch soon, too; I haven’t seen it since April of last year.
Are you hungry right now? I was hungry, but I’ve since heated up the caramel croissant I mentioned earlier. I’m also having iced coffee with it.
What color eyes do you wish you had? I’m fine with dark brown, since that’s kind of the default on this side of the world, anyway.
Has anyone ever tried to physically fight you? My brother many times, mostly when he was a kid. He was the most poorly-behaved out of us three siblings, and if he wasn’t throwing a tantrum at the top of his lungs he was either punching or kicking me and Nina.
What’s your dream job? I had planned to be in PR and that’s where I currently am. I know my plans or dreams can always change; but for now, I don’t see myself working in any other industry.
Have you ever ran with a knife? Yeah I used to chase my brother with a knife whenever he misbehaved.
What time is it right now? 9:05 PM.
What would you buy if you won the lottery? Give a big chunk to my parents for mine and their peace of mind, especially given the fact that my mom was recently retrenched and my dad is still on his side gig since there’s no sign of the cruise ship industry getting back on its feet anytime soon. As for the rest of the money, I don’t know. I’ll buy some of the gadgets and shoes I’ve been eyeing; allocate another portion to donate to this animal NGO I’ve been supporting for a while on Facebook; then save the rest.
Are you avoiding someone? Gabie.
What’s your favorite shape? I don’t really have one?
Do you call your boyfriend “Monkey”? I don’t have a boyfriend but I never called my ex this, either.
How social are you? I try to be friendly and social with everyone now, which is a far cry from how I used to be.
What’s your favorite primary color? Blue.
What were you for Halloween? I went as Dora for the second time in a row because the latest Halloween ‘party’ I went to (it took place on Zoom) was with a completely different set of people who will never know I also went as her in 2019, anyway.
Do you like hot chocolate? I do love it, just not the ‘hot’ part, haha. I will order it occasionally but will wait till it gets lukewarm before I take a sip.
What do you have pierced? Just the ears. < Me too. I don’t plan on getting any more new ones.
What’s your favorite type of tea? Iced and in lemonade flavor.
What do you struggle with? Forgiving myself when I make mistakes/disappoint others.
When did you get a Facebook? I was initially not allowed to be on any social media until I turned 18, but back in high school my English teacher assigned us a project that we had to execute through Facebook. I obviously didn’t want to fail the class, so I made a secret Facebook account in 2012, when I was 14. My parents couldn’t complain about it because my grade was on the line, so they let me and my account be.
What’s your favorite thing about the winter? I suppose I’d appreciate the colder weather more than anything else.
Read the book or watch the movie? Whichever one is the best? We all know some adaptions are very shitty and vice versa. < Yesssssss.
Do you watch Glee? No. I never really liked the covers very much except for a few ones, like Defying Gravity. And it seemed very much like a teen-oriented show, something I was never able to be a fan of.
Can you walk in heels? Yes, I love high heels.
Regular or iced coffee? Both, whatever I’m in the mood for.
What is your favorite dog breed? Probably Golden Retriever.

REVIEWING THE CHARTS: 09/01/2021 (Justin Bieber, SZA, Jason Derulo)
Happy New Year, everyone, and welcome to 2021 on REVIEIWNG THE CHARTS – or I guess you could call it “Season 4”. I’m going into this year with cautious optimism – that goes for pop music, mind you, and not actual world events which I suspect will just get even direr as the years go on. For 2021 on the charts, I’m hopeful and I hope that’ll show in this next year as I’m in a better place than ever, partly thanks to my decision to renew this series in the Autumn, and we’ve got a busy week – or year – ahead of us. I can keep up with new releases every Friday like I used to and generally kick myself back into a routine with all these musical hobbies. I stay cautious in my optimism for 2021’s pop music because frankly, looking at this top 20, I can’t say I like a lot of this at all. I mean, I guess I’m fond of some of these tracks but I suspect a fair few of these songs to have their last shred of success this Winter and not turn out as year-long hits. I can’t say that for our #1, which is “Sweet Melody” by newly-collapsed girl group Little Mix, the fifth credited #1 for the group and their first since 2016’s “Shout Out to My Ex”. Admittedly, I feel like Little Mix ends here, hopefully with a bang as this was one of the few bonafide smash hits that lasted through Christmas, and I see it lasting a couple more weeks at #1 as a good send-off because I don’t predict the band getting back together without Jesy anytime soon... not that I care about pop-group politics, of course. On that note, let’s divert to our rundown. Welcome back to REVIEWING THE CHARTS.
Rundown
There is a single song in the UK Top 75 – which is what I cover – that has not gained, returned or entered for its first week, and that’s “Love is a Compass” by Griff from Disney’s Christmas advert down to #50 – it’ll be gone next week, but I honestly don’t really understand why it lasted an extra week. Maybe Soul and Disney+ had something to do with it, because I cannot see this getting consistent streams. Otherwise, look: I’m not mentioning every single drop-out because I would just be repeating every single drop-out because I would just be repeating all of the Christmas songs that I’ve already listed every single week since late November. I will say this: “Last Christmas” by Wham!, last week’s #1, is gone from the top 75, alongside “All I Want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey, “This Christmas” by Jess Glynne, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” by Justin Bieber, “Fairytale of New York” by the Pogues featuring the late Kirsty MacColl, “Merry Christmas Everyone” by Shakin’ Stevens, “Step into Christmas” by Elton John, “Do They Know it’s Christmas?” by Band Aid and “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” by Michael Bublé are all gone despite staying in the top 10 in last week’s awkward grouping of holiday trite and regular pop. Everything else I’ve said over the last few weeks in the returning entries and gains sections, Christmas-wise, is gone, and I don’t want to list any other drop-outs, including even all of last week’s new arrivals. The only other notable song dropping off from the chart that’s not explicitly Christmas-related is Liam Gallagher’s charity single “All You’re Dreaming Of”, and that’s not exactly a surprise to anyone. Okay, so for our returning entries and gains, I’ll list them in some kind of janky order. Starting with returning entries, the category that fits most of these songs is: “year-long hits that have had one final and brief second wind after the holiday season that will later be replaced as Spring comes”. This includes “Giants” by Dermot Kennedy at #75, “Breaking Me” by Topic and A75 at #74, “Roses” by SAINt JHN and remixed by Imanbek at #71, “Rain on Me” by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande at #70, “ROCKSTAR” by DaBaby featuring Roddy Ricch at #68, “Don’t Start Now” by Dua Lipa at #67, “Lighter” by Nathan Dawe and KSI at #61, “Ain’t it Different” by Headie One featuring AJ Tracey and Stormzy at #60, “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” by Jawsh 685 and Jason Derulo and remixed by BTS at #58, “Before You Go” by Lewis Capaldi at #56, “WAP” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion at #47, “Take You Dancing” by Jason Derulo at #46, “Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles at #41 and “Looking for Me” by Paul Woolford and Diplo featuring Kareen Lomax at #39. Our next category is: “really old – and massive - songs riding off the coattails of a weak chart for a cheap additional week to add to their repertoire”. This includes “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper at #73, “Baby Shark” by Pinkfong at #72, “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran at #66, “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac at #64, “Someone You Loved” by Lewis Capaldi at #45, “Dance Monkey” by Tones and I at #38, and I guess even “Train Wreck” by James Arthur returning big at #18. Our third category consists of: “mostly more recent and decently-sized hits coming back because they’re still popular but won’t be re-peaking any time soon”. These include “Gnat” by Eminem at #69 (although you’d be stretching to call that a hit exactly – would have been without Christmas), “Show Out” by Kid Cudi, the late Pop Smoke and Skepta at #62, “Lasting Lover” by Sigala and James Arthur at #57, “Princess Cuts” by Headie One featuring Young T & Bugsey at #55, “no body, no crime” by Taylor Swift featuring HAIM at #54, “pov” by Ariana Grande at #52, “Tick Tock” by Clean Bandit and Mabel featuring 24kGoldn at #51, “Diamonds” by Sam Smith at #49, “Body” by Megan Thee Stallion at #44, “Plugged In Freestyle” by A92 and Fumez the Engineer at #43, “champagne problems” by Taylor Swift at #42, “What You Know Bout Love” by the late Pop Smoke at #36, “i miss u” by Jax Jones and Au/Ra at #34, “See Nobody” by Wes Nelson and Hardy Caprio at #33 and “Lonely” by Justin Bieber and benny blanco at #32. Our last category consists of songs that returned and peaked this week, including many in the top 40. These include “You’re Mines Still” by Yung Bleu and remixed by Drake at #59, “All Girls are the Same” by the late Juice WRLD at #53 (still very strange to see that song from 2017 peak nearly four years later), “Heat Waves” by Glass Animals at #48, “SO DONE” by The Kid LAROI at #40 (more on him later), “The Business” by Tiesto at #31 and “Golden” by Harry Styles at #26. These are the most important returns because they signify what could be coming down the line for our genuine Winter hit parade, or at least the post-Christmas half of it. What might better show this are our gains, however, as these songs were sticking through the holiday season and took advantage of it this week to poke through even higher in the top 40 and often top 10. We have “Forever Young” by Becky Hill at #35, “Midnight Sky” by Miley Cyrus at #29, “Lemonade” by Internet Money and Gunna featuring Don Toliver and NAV at #27 (as soon as I can stop saying that full song name the better), “Monster” by Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber at #25, “No Time for Tears” by Nathan Dawe and Little Mix at #24, “HOLIDAY” by Lil Nas X ironically up to #23, “positions” by Ariana Grande at #22, “Holy” by Justin Bieber featuring Chance the Rapper at #21, “Loading” by Central Cee (still growing on me) at #20, “Head & Heart” by Joel Corry and MNEK at #19, “Dynamite” by BTS at #17, “Mood” by 24kGoldn and iann dior at #16, “Therefore I Am” by Billie Eilish at #15, “Really Love” by KSI featuring Craig David and the Digital Farm Animals at #14, “Blinding Lights” by the Weeknd still here at #13, “willow” by Taylor Swift at #12, “Prisoner” by Miley Cyrus featuring Dua Lipa at #11, “Paradise” by MEDUZA and Dermot Kennedy at #10, “you broke me first” by Tate McRae at #9, “34+35” by Ariana Grande at #8 and “WITHOUT YOU” by The Kid LAROI at #7. I can reassure you I’m overjoyed about that last one – not because the song is good, quite the opposite, I just like having easy targets ready for the end of the year when I actually end up doing a worst list. Oh, and that’s not the end of it: “Get Out My Head” by Shane Codd is at #6, “Levitating” by Dua Lipa and remixed by DaBaby is at #5, “Whoopty” by CJ is somehow at #3 and finally, “Afterglow” by Ed Sheeran is at #2. We already mentioned “Sweet Melody”, so now finally, it’s on to our new arrivals. What did you gain from reading me list sixty-odd songs in rapid succession with minimal commentary? Nothing. What did I gain from it? Whatever’s just above nothing, but as is the UK Singles Chart in early January.
NEW ARRIVALS
#65 – “Your New Boyfriend” – Wilbur Soot
Produced by Wilbur Soot
Before I put two and two together, I was incredibly confused to who this guy was and why he was charting – he’s doing particularly well on Spotify for this indie singer-songwriter, right? I did one quick Google search – literally typing in “Who is Wilbur Soot” – and soon found out that I actually already know the guy from “SootHouse”, a YouTube channel I think I might even be subscribed to. Huh, I guess that shows how faceless social media platforms can be – his name is in the videos and I should have assumed from “Soot” but that missed me until now. Right now he’s part of that whole worryingly popular group of content creators that tread the very thin line separating Minecraft let’s-players from commentary YouTubers and Twitch streamers from paedophiles. I’m too old to understand any of this garbage but from what I see trending on Twitter all the time, it seems toxic and frankly I don’t want in any part of that. I don’t want to have my grandparents’ graduation photos leaked to the Internet alongside my address, thank you very much, so I think I’ll distance myself from the whole “Internet celebrity” and just talk about the music. This is the last in a trilogy of E-boy indie-pop songs, because of Goddamn course that exists. Song number-one, “I’m in Love with an E-Girl” is a dreary acoustic duet that forgets that comedy songs are supposed to be fun or witty, relying on obscure inside jokes and references to recently-outed paedophiles. I do like some of the jabs later on about romanticisation of mental illness and Chevy’s voice is really nice, whoever that is, but it’s too little too late to be a worthwhile track. Now for song #2, “Internet Ruined Me”, which is a slightly livelier rendition of what is pretty much the same song, with lyrical gems like, “My Twitter feed’s like my brain ‘cause I have it on dark mode.” At least it feels like a more honest attempt at a song, but song #3, “Your New Boyfriend”, the one that’s charting, is obviously the most realised out of these acoustic demo skits, with some pretty sweet piano melodies and Wilbur getting into his comically struggling high register to depict his naivety as a teenager when attempting to get into both a long-term relationship and career as an entertainer. Sure, the song’s janky and awkward, but the chorus has a genuine punk groove, even if it wants to stop to interject ad-libs for no reason and kind of ruin whatever momentum is there in the first place. By the second verse, the punchlines devolve to “No homo, though” and though I do like how those horns sound, they are somewhat clouded in a messy mix that does not help Wilbur out vocally at all. Chevy’s background vocals do help here and add a lot to the floaty atmosphere of the song, and, okay, I’ll admit: the song’s good, if a bit ridiculous and almost Weezer-like in lyrical content... but hey, I like Pinkerton, and there’s certainly enough pointless noise in this song to fit the criteria, so... Goddamn it, I have to recommend this one. Let’s just date this episode – and song – even further by requesting Carson and Pyrocynical hop on a nonce-rock remix, perhaps. Bring Dream along too.
#63 – “Reminds Me of You” – The Kid LAROI and Juice WRLD
Produced by Aaron Joseph, Theron Thomas, Sam Sumser, Sean Small and Dr. Luke
Oh, and speaking of sex crimes by men in places of power, welcome back, Loctor Duke, Tyson Trax, or as I prefer, (alleged) rapist. I don’t like to get too moralistic on this show because it is about the music but I cannot think of any person who would in their right mind know of “Praying” by Kesha and still want to collaborate with this waste of space who uses his monopoly on pop songwriting to continue raking in cash from vulnerable young singers, to the point where I’m not sure if I can truly blame artists for ending up with Dr. Luke production or writing credits... oh, wait, yes, I can! I don’t let Saweetie, Doja Cat or even Kim Petras off the hook for actively collaborating with Luke seemingly in defiance of, you know, moral decency, so I definitely won’t give The Kid LAROI a pass, especially if he and the label are going to use this as another opportunity to milk the passing of a genuinely talented man in Jarad Higgins, or the late Juice WRLD, for the sake of a chart hit for this bumbling Australian wannabe and a sexual predator. This is not the first time, either, but I’ll admit the story gets fuzzy, as Kim Petras did reveal that this performance from Juice was in the studio as she was recording a song, supposedly, that is – I have no hesitation to say I think stories could be made up by record labels to make whoever’s involved look a tiny bit less of an ass. Oh, and by the way, this isn’t even originally a Kid LAROI and Juice WRLD track. Let’s talk about “Reminds Me”, a pretty mediocre Kim Petras song where she blatantly imitates Juice on a trap-pop instrumental that’s just pitiful, as is her vocal delivery that makes lyrics Juice clearly wrote unconvincing. Kim Petras isn’t doing a homicide, I mean, I hope she isn’t. So now we’ve got a “reimagination”, “revamp”, “remake” – or to put it realistically, remix – of an already worthless, disposable song made by a sexual predator and its enablers, spat on by The Kid LAROI’s unforgivably gross delivery where he essentially covers the Kim Petras song and does even a worse job of it, mixed bizarrely – especially in the vocal department – and topped off with a tacked-on Juice WRLD demo verse, so lazily put together that they just repeat his verse to awkwardly lead into an anti-climactic chorus where Juice is nowhere to be found. Everyone involved in the making of this song lost whatever shred of respect I had for them in the first place for putting this out – and that doesn’t include Juice, who’s clearly being mismanaged post-mortem. If The Kid LAROI sticks around, don’t forget this and don’t forget everything he’s done – intentionally or unintentionally – to heartlessly pinch pennies out of Juice’s legacy.
#37 – “Goosebumps” – Hvme
Produced by HVME
I’d make the easy, cliché joke that this isn’t living up to “goosebumps” by Travis Scott featuring Kendrick Lamar, but... this IS “goosebumps” by Travis Scott featuring Kendrick Lamar. HVME is this boring faceless nobody—I mean, “mysterious” Spanish DJ who made a garbage deep house remix of a pretty decent Travis Scott song, but not using the original vocals and stems, which would have probably made this listenable, but instead covering the song himself, stripping of it of Travis’ original energy that carried the eerie trap instrumental and pretty pathetically attempting to replicate the “Straight up!” ad-lib. The mix is fine but puts way too much emphasis on all the swooshing and nothingness synths that do little to get in the way of the typical pumping bass-line you hear in this type of house, and, yeah, this is pitiful once again and reeks of no-effort dance music made in a bedroom you wouldn’t even hear bumped in clubs. He doesn’t even try and re-sing Kendrick’s verse – good – and his attempts at picking up Travis’ masterful flow from the original is comical at best, to the point where I genuinely laughed out loud as his measly “brr-brr-brr” sound effects. I don’t understand why this is so high, yet it has 112 million Spotify streams as his only release on the platform, and I can only assume this is thanks to Ministry of Sound and some Lithuanian record label (don’t ask; I don’t know either). I don’t see this surviving January, thankfully, so you can say goodbye to this guy and his awful, awful cover for good... hopefully.
#30 – “Love Not War (The Tampa Beat)” – Jason Derulo and Nuka
Produced by Nuka
I don’t think there’s any “Tampa Beat” to speak of so Jason Derulo, are you just putting “(Blank) Beat” at the end of all of your songs now? What do you even gain from that? Except there is a “Tampa Beat” – unlike Jawsh 685’s original track, however, it wasn’t called that. Nuka is a New Caledonian producer and she made a song called 4 Bryleans (WayzRmx2018)”. Alright, well now it’s the “Tampa” beat, because I’m sure Florida is close enough to a French territory in Oceania, right? Maybe he’s talking about the ghost town in Australia, or the... small Transylvanian mountain. Okay, I’ll stop kidding myself: this title is complete nonsense. At least he asked for the sample before using it this time, and if Derulo makes careers out of this, then I’ll be glad for these underground Oceanian producers. The difference is here it just feels lazy and co-opting a style he’s clearly not in tune with for the sake of hits for himself. It would make more sense for him to keep on working with Jawsh if he really had good intentions for producers out there in the Pacific. Anyway, much like the title, this song, produced by someone who claims to make the best cheesecake in the Pacific (which I wouldn’t think is that hard of an award to claim), is nonsensical. It’s stuck in 2014 with gross synth leads, clipping percussion and finger-snaps straight out of DJ Mustard’s older stuff, along with what I guess is the sound of the Pacific: Jason Derulo doing fake accents over incessant horns and over-produced garbage that seems like its sole purpose is to annoy... and I liked “Savage Love”! I think my favourite part of this production is when he pitches the horn line down for the verse and then it comes back mid-way through as annoying as ever, even if this mix is crowded enough for you to just barely ignore it. Derulo isn’t doing much here either other than straining his voice for a belt no-one asked for and having a complete dissonance between verse and chorus in terms of lyrical content. Oh, and there’s a copious amount of remixes that are all garbage. The instrumental’s on Spotify too under “Waterfall”, so I guess that adds another name to the list of names this song has for no reason. At least with “Savage Love” I got to hear BTS drop F-bombs, this is just worthless.
#28 – “Good Days” – SZA
Produced by Los Hendrix, Nascent and Carter Lang
I came into this episode all optimistic and ended up just moaning about sex crimes and Jason Derulo but I think if there’s going to be any shred of true quality from our new arrivals, it’s the new SZA track that’s shaping up to be genuinely big organically on radio and streaming, “Good Days”, from that new album, whenever Top decides he’s going to let her release it. I’m not the biggest fan of SZA; you probably don’t remember that she ended up on one of my worst lists a couple years back, although that’s mostly at the fault of Travis Scott more than her. This doesn’t mean I’m not excited to hear from her, though I did like some of the stuff off of CTRL, particularly “Prom” and “20 Something”... and, yeah, in terms of what I want from contemporary R&B, I’m not mad at “Good Days” at all, though it’s going to take a lot of growing on me because I immediately hate this mix and production, which relies on slick, lo-fi guitars being drowned out by overweight percussion that sounds organic but pretty unfitting and awkward amongst the reverb-drenched vocals and unrecognisable mix that doesn’t compliment SZA’s at times awkward delivery. That’s a shame to say because I think she harmonises well with co-writer Jacob Collier, especially on the chorus, where she wishes for good days ahead, which is lyrical content I can get behind: coming out of a bad place and knowing you have no authority over your future but wishing for good days regardless. When the synths come in after the third verse at about three minutes and SZA’s voice disappears from the mix, becoming less overbearing than it is, I can appreciate the song more and especially when that final chorus comes in... except there isn’t a final chorus to leave this song off with much of an impact, rather just a tacked-on instrumental section that felt like Jacob Collier was tasked with just extending a snippet, which given how the song was teased in “Hit Different”, might actually be the case. I like the lyrics a lot, and do think it picks up after the song practically ends, but I’m not sure about this right now, and could see it growing on me as good days either become more imminent or drift even further away.
#4 – “Anyone” – Justin Bieber
Produced by watt, The Monsters & Strangerz and Jon Bellion
I’ve done a lot of writing and reviewing this week so I’m glad I can sum this up in a few sentences. Justin Bieber is an overexposed hack who I cannot feel any emotional connection towards at all, so him continuing to make any art is moot. This song has a loading screen of a synth melody, and that’s before that really ugly chorus that Bieber really can’t save with his Auto-Tuned whine of a voice, alongside acoustic guitars that clearly do not blend well. Jon Bellion’s production at the end of this just barely saves it by doing some kind of 180 shift into slow synth-pop, clearly coasting off of the Weeknd’s success in the same style without realising what made his record worthwhile. Camila Cabello recorded a demo that I’m glad isn’t the official version because her squealing would not sound good here either; really, I think Bellion could have kept this to himself but he knows he would put a lot more effort and character into his own lyrics than this – he would also write an actual bridge for his own album, I’d hope. It isn’t catchy, it isn’t intriguing and it is gutless, like Bieber has been for the past two album cycles and I guess it’s not changing this time.
Conclusion
What a downer for my optimism about pop music going forward this was! Even the best songs here I feel mostly ambivalent on, to the point where I can give Wilbur Soot of all people Best of the Week for “Your New Boyfriend”, which shocks me since I thought SZA would run with it, although “Good Days” does grab the Honourable Mention. Worst of the Week should be a toss-up if it weren’t for the fact that The Kid LAROI exists so he can get that for “Reminds Me of You” featuring the mangled remnants of whatever’s left of the late Juice WRLD’s Google Drive folders full of demos and leaks. I suppose Dishonourable Mention can go to HVNE for “Goosebumps”, but I’d understand it for anything else here. Here’s this week’s top 10:
Follow me on Twitter @cactusinthebank for more rambling – I swear I’m not usually this angry – and I can’t really predict anything going forward either, other than unfortunately more Dr. Luke, but we’ll see what the charts decide to bring us next Saturday when it comes. I’ll see you next week.

ex: here, here
can’t find his drink or man: from shinee’s performance of lady gaga’s “just dance” in 2009
pinee: during shinee’s “one fine day” onew went to krabi where he introduces us to pinee
jonghyun:
michael jackson voice: dear god this joke has been running since the dawn of shinee. in their song 산소 같은 너 (love like oxygen), jong drew influence from MJ in his singing and onew mocked him
(ex. here and here) and has been mocking him ever since. in their song excuse me miss (amazing performance) shinee continues the joke and imitate him as well
is this the reality you wanted: jong’s catchphrase during their reality show “hello baby” where they took care of a toddler named yooguen. as they were all v young during this time (ring ding dong era) there were a lot of situations that jong was like “is this real life / are we really doing this” and that’s when he’d say it to the camera @ the viewers
shortness & insoles: let’s be real, jongie is not a very tall man; he is smol and adorable and it’s fun to tease him about his height (honestly it seems like he’s fine with it as he seems to tease himself as well in the lyrics of “young and rich”)
about insoles: here
young and rich: here
his kazoo: just….. he would and it amuses me to no end that he got shawols kazooing as well
key:
girl group dances/wild dances: he’s the king of girl group dances; key’s able to memorize dances very easily after just watching them and he became pretty infamous for that. he has a lot of fun with them and with dancing in general
girl group dances: here
general insanity: here
possibly my favorite 7 seconds ever like you are idols p l s contain yourselves (during shinee world III in seoul): here
savagery: here
scared of heights&haunted houses: and they did this and this to him
key’s daily life as a living breathing meme: key’s know how!
my gucci burned: during shinee world V in dallas, key explains it here (he’s talking to jong when he’s talking about the drier). what a guy, what a meme
minho:
dibidibidi my name is minho (shinee world (doo-bop)): the iconic shinee rap where the famous dibidibidi was born and shinee gets their nicknames: bling bling jonghyun, powerful dancer taemin, dubu leader onew, almighty key, flaming charisma minho; it is ridiculous and hilarious and they kept it for nine years woaw
flaming charisma: from the aforementioned shinee world rap but they always make jokes about it equating minho to fire
ex: here, here
his fkin loud-ass sneezes: he sneezes loudly; but on yang nam show, he explains (for the first time in 9 years) that he sneezes loudly bc he has allergies, he used to hold it in but the doctor said that it’s not good for him so he just let it out; after the members heard that there’s a medical reason, they feels bad man
dabho: he dabs and infected his members
taemin:
milk: this is from ring ding dong where taemin is drinking milk for no apparent reason (which is incidentally where i x’d out of the music video when i first saw it LOL); shawols joke that it’s because during this time taeminnie was 16 and still a growing child
everlasting struggle against bugs: he reALLY hates bugs and recoils away (from the lovely @nothingbutsoulmatesjongkey) from them which is a source of amusement to both shinee and shawols alike. boy is a damn professional but when he spots a bug he will freak out even if it is during a performance LOL sos save him
more examples: here, here (there are a lot)
GUCCI SLIPPERS: probably the bane of shawols’ existence, a cursed image
pics: here, here
mockery: here (also check out all of valentae’s stuff, you won’t be disappointed)
everyone shames him and they are the real gucci that should have been burned
magic hands: a condition that afflicts him that causes him to lose/break everything he touches; sometimes while he’s performing his rosary bracelet flies off into the crowd and a fan holds it for him until he can get it afterwards, he also just … breaks things like trophies and once on the set of “view” there were motorcycles that everyone was sitting on and looking at and when taemin touched one, it fell over and part of the plastic cracked (from 2016 weekly idol)
ex: here (sorry i couldn’t find an eng sub so i just did it here 1. he had to get a new rosary ring bc he lost it during running man when he threw something; 2. a moment after a fan gave a present to him, it flew out of his hands while he was waving; 3. during one fine day, when he was in switzerland, he misplaced his train ticket, 4. tries to open sugar packet, fails; 5. once shinee had to wait at the airport for a few hours bc he lost his passport; 6. broke his name sign)
hot chocolate??: from shinee’s “one fine day” he just looks lost and v cute and we mock/love him for it
this video: i saw it and cried from laughter and my roommate was so concerned
does not like cucumbers: same with onew
when cameras are off: why is he like this
ot5:
bbu-syeo (뿌셔뿌셔): this is a korean snack where you pour the power flavor on the noodle crackers and break it (it’s name literally means “destroy destroy” or “crush crush”).
shinee are models for the snack so they did a commercial in 2009
for that one there’s a parody that some of the members uploaded themselves on social media (i believe it was key and jong)
in 2015, minho, onew, and jonghyun came out on korea snl and also parodied it
they also have another commercial released in 2016
school of rock: a horror parody that boys did where they are girl students (this is where their names for GIRLnee come from though jong (jongmi , knowing brothers) and key (eungyo, snl) have different ones from other shows as well
harry potter parody: a parody they did in 2008
the video: here
shinee reaction 8 years later: here
monkey magic: from an snl skit in 2015, “dangerous manager”
“show us a cool pose”: from shinee’s 5 second interview, from the part the video starts, it asks them to show a cool pose and all of the shinee members did the peace sign and taemin…… did that (also key speaks in japanese for his answers)
jams sadly: after a married to the music win, they decided to mock their own crying when they win an award
honestly they’re just super sav bc they’ve been around for so long they don’t give a fuck and it’s hilarious to watch
they’re the best group
stan them, stan talent
#HUGE post#wow i know a lot about shinee#about shinee#get to know shinee#if you have questions about something shinee-related#feel free to come ask me!#all creds to their respective owers#shoutout to valentae and nothingbutsoulmates#bc i love their shit#did anyone get through this entire list?#shoutout to you too#shinee

Gosh the summer completely flew by and took us all by surprise!
July and August came and went and now it feels like it is nearly – dare I say it – CHRISTMAS! We had so many wonderful kaleidoscope adventures, if you follow any of my social medias you have hopefully seen some of the amazing things we got up to.
I haven’t written over the summer as I love being in the moment with the kids and taking lots of photos to have as memories and then I thought it would be nice to have one blog post full of all our memories as a keepsake to look back in time.
I hope you enjoy our recap of summer fun! What did you guys get up to over Summer?
Our summer of fun really started with BTS in wembley but I have covered that so this is everything after that, until schools started back. I have included some Wembley adjacent memories as I made some amazing friends. Speaking of….
Over the last few months, I have made some amazing new friends – who are ARMY – we have made friends over our mutual love of BTS. We met up with some at Wembley and our friendship has grown and they fell in love with my two children, because lets be honest why wouldn’t you! They are both amazing and adorable. So much so that one beautiful lady sent poppet and monkey some bunny rabbit hats, that appear in an episode of RUN BTS, if you press the paws, the ears will move. As you can see below, they loved them!
We also went to the seaside and enjoyed playing on the beach and some rides that were on Weymouth sea front. We love Weymouth and any chance we get to go over is always a good day. I love to swim in the sea but we didn’t get to do that on this trip as it was quite late when we arrived. We did get to bury the kids and have fish and chips by the sea!
Poppet loves to dance, sing and a variety of other things and goes to a lot of after school clubs. Monkey is not so bothered by any organised clubs or events as he likes to do his own thing. He has taken to climbing and loves to hit the local climbing centre. Poppet comes along as well on occasion as again she quite enjoys it. But this visit at the start of the summer holidays – monkey managed to climb higher than he has ever been and he jumped off the top yellow pole, which is quite daunting really. I am not sure I could do it.
We are all still very obsessed with BTS and enjoy watching music videos and their variety show RUN BTS. We have also started family quiz nights, which have been Harry Potter and BTS related so far. On one of these nights the challenge was to do the BTS fan chant as fast as we could. Monkeys practise was rather funny.
Poppet was still learning by this point but has it perfect now. I shall have to re-video them so you can all see how well they can do it now. And yes, it does sound funny but hearing it in Wembley being chanted by 60,000 people was cool but still somewhat creepy! But mostly amazing and we are ready for (hopefully) when they return next year.
We visited a local National Trust site called Barrington Court. It is a beautiful house and grounds. We love to visit and go a fair few times each year, as they always have something for the kids to do, Christmas is always beautiful and I love the grounds. It is a a lovely place to walk around, let me know if you have been. And if you haven’t, you should come and have a visit. It is beautiful.
Before school finished, Poppet entered a solo dance into her school talent show. It was a shortened version of one of our favourite BTS songs – Anpanman. She was really brave to do it all by herself, as most of her friends were doing dances, singing etc in groups. But Poppet is not shy and she loves to dance and has been on stage lots of times before. I am so proud of her just for entering. But not only did she do us proud just by entering. She also won for her key stage. She is my little superstar and Monkey said he cheered the loudest and he got all his friends to cheer too, but then told me secretly he didn’t have to ask them as they all thought Poppet was the best anyway. But what an amazing big brother he is??
Poppet also did her Grade 1 ballet exam before the end of term and passed with distinction or honours. I am not sure what its called in Ballet, But she did amazingly, whatever it was. 🙂 Monkey thought he would give it a go in her skirt and not surprisingly it fit perfectly. 😂
I love how random and weird my children can be. It makes me feel very connected to them as I am very weird and random. 🙂 We are all very happy in our own skin and personalities and we definitely all fall from the same tree. They both came downstairs in their jurassic coast t-shirts and green shorts and declared that for today they were twins.
BTS new movie Bring the Soul played at Yeovil – so we got ourselves all dressed up and headed to the Cinema, I didn’t think there would be many people there as I have never met any ARMY near us. But the cinema was packed out with tons of ARMY of all ages. We met some lovely new people and really enjoyed the film. The kids did get a little bored as it was quite a lot of subtitled talking for them to keep up with. So they didn’t quite make it to the end and had to be picked up by Mr BC, but me and Mamma Butterfly really enjoyed it.
Speaking of me and Mamma Butterfly, we got a very rare child free weekend as the kids went camping for a weekend with my sister, brother in law and nephew. So we got the chance to have some adventures of our own. We went for cocktails (mocktails for Mamma) for one evening and watched some episodes of RUN BTS. We went to the new cocktail bar in our town, Kikis. It was lovely and my cocktail went down way too easy so I gladly had a second one. We also took a train into Bournemouth to visit the kids camping and have a look around as they were supposed to be going to the air festival. But they didn’t make it, so me and Mamma just had a nice walk around the town. I introduced her to bubble tea, which she loved.
We re-watched BTS live at Wembley when it became available on VLIVE. Kids loved it just as much the second time around, so much so, I had to keep asking them to move back, as they were so close to the screen, no one else could see it.
Before Mr BC headed off for a business trip, he took us all to the Car Show as he knows me and Poppet love a good car show. Heres some of our favourites:
This is a reminder for myself not to let Poppet eat cherries, it looked a little bit like the start of a really scary horror movie looking at her after she had finished.
I made a new friend over the Wembley BTS weekend because I asked if anyone would be around on the Sunday to keep me company as I would be attending Day 2 on my own as the kids and Mr BC had gone off to sightsee around London. My friends all jumped at the chance to spend the afternoon with me and they all told me where they would be meeting etc so I wouldn’t be alone but I was also asked if I wanted to meet up with a lady who had been let down and wasn’t sure she would feel comfortable going on her own. I offered to meet her and we could go for food etc, and she offered me her ticket which was going spare anyway, and it was better seats than mine and as she didn’t want to go on her own, I said I would love too. And it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I would happily have sat on my own, I really just wanted some company for the afternoon, but after hearing she might not go as she didn’t feel brave enough to go on her own, I could not have that and as I am neither shy nor scared to make new friends, I accepted this silent challenge to befriend her. It was a good decision as it lead to a few happy accidents. I made a friend for life, she is truly wonderful person and I can’t imagine not talking to her now. Not only is she a great friend but she’s a wonderful crafter. I told her how Mamma Butterfly was sad she hadn’t made it to Wembley and she kindly made and sent this commemorative pillow to her for her birthday. How amazing is this? And such a thoughtful and beautiful gift.
And secondly, I now had a spare ticket. I had won my ticket in a prize draw and I really wanted to give it away so someone else could enjoy the concert too. I was meeting with some friends I had made online, as well as my friend above. They are all a wonderful group of Ladies and I am so happy to be included in their group. One of my friends had a friend who didn’t have a ticket and I offered him mine. He was really excited and pleased to be able to go and I think, at least I hope he enjoyed himself. I felt wonderful being able to give my ticket to someone who deserved one. All of these acts of kindness, stemmed from me simply asking if anyone would mind if I joined them as I didn’t fancy spending all afternoon on the run up to the concert on my own. It always pays to speak up and I discovered I have made some remarkable friends who have welcomed and accepted me and taken me under their wing. What an amazing start to the Summer it was?
Everyone we met, also fell in love with kids – which is always wonderful as its nice to hear that you have nice children from people you meet, it makes me worry less than I am doing a bad job.
I think that is it for our summer of fun. We did go to Legoland for a weekend but that was so exciting and amazing, I have an individual post to write about that.
I hope you enjoyed my round up of all the fun things we did. If you have any questions about any of the places we visited or if you just want to say hi! Please do drop me a comment or find me on facebook/instagram or twitter.
