Each week I plan to feature an amazing creature, admiring God's fantastic artistry.  Hopefully it’ll brighten someone’s day to see something new and interesting if they haven’t seen it before. : )

This month, we're featuring beautiful animals in silvery shades! (..This one is more varying shades of grey..sometimes more toward brown, but read on for why it was chosen today anyway!)

Wolf Spiders

Scientific Name: Spiders in the family Lycosidae

Region: Almost world-wide

Size: Varies by species

Interesting Notes: While there are certainly more silvery spider species, it seems fitting to feature this elegant arachnid family today as they are uniquely known for being caring, protective mothers. Wolf spider moms will first carry their eggs near their spinnerets in a spun silken egg sac, (potentially uncomfortably) constantly keeping their abdomen raised higher than usual to keep the eggs off of the ground. Then, as soon as the spiderlings hatch, they climb up their mom's legs and ride around on her back for a few weeks until they are old enough to take care of themselves.
