[Matilda sighs, closing the back door with a slam to announce her presence] Beatrix: Sweetie-pie! It’s been such a long-.. oh, oh! Matilda: Don’t get excited, it’s not mine. Beatrix: [gets excited] Look at you! Oh, why didn’t you visit sooner?! We could’ve-… Matilda: I’m just carrying it for someone else. Beatrix: She says it isn’t hers… Carson: Well, that’s fucking ridiculous, it’s-… Matilda: If you’d all shut the fuck up for a second, maybe I could explain. … Carson: What the hell is wrong with you? You’re not giving up your own baby. Matilda: It’s not mine, it never was. Carson: Look.. I don’t care if it was an accident, you live with the consequences. Matilda: It wasn’t an accident! I told you-… Carson: [snorts] They can adopt. Matilda: Yeah, they’re adopting this. [Beatrix sobs something along the lines of “how could you”, but it’s mostly intelligible] Matilda: They’re getting this baby, whether you like it or not. Carson: Like fuck they are, that’s our grandchild! Matilda: [scoffs] Some grandparents you’d be. Carson: Hey, you watch your fucking tone-… Matilda: You can’t tell me what to do with my tone, my body or my baby. Carson: Get back here-.. Matilda! [Beatrix buries herself into her husband’s chest as Matilda storms off, weeping incessantly] Carson: [yells] When’s it due?! … Miles: Tilly, wait! [Matilda barely slows down, throwing a glare over her shoulder] Miles: You could’ve asked, y’know.. if you needed the money. Matilda: God-.. they’re not paying me, Miles. Miles: Maybe they should be? Matilda: [laughs bitterly] Fuck off.

Did the color wheel challenge with some ocs from a story i’ve been working on/from my friend’s universe (@/trubblegumm). It’s obvious I started to get really lazy at some points but THATS OKAY!
The red one is Dorothy Goode, who is the protagonist of a story based on the Wonderful Wizard of Oz series by L. Frank Baum. She’s basically an exorcist with witch powers that she got from the wicked witch demon (@/trubblegumm’s oc) and she’s on a mission to get revenge on Oz the Wizard
The orange one is Buer Leonidas, but most just call him Leon. He’s a lion demon who’s been hiding in a little cottage in the forest making herbal tea because humans scare him, as he’s based on the cowardly lion
The yellow one is from the same universe but a different (not oz related) storyline. His name is Ferthur and he’s a harvest demon who had originally retired from demon antics but then a little girl (oc belonging to @/nerodroids) summoned him to form a contract and now he’s stuck as a servant
The green one is Oswald Douglas, but most people call him Oz. He comes from a long lineage of exorcists that are blessed with good fortune, and built their wealth off of mining emeralds and offering various “wishes” to their patrons and supporters. You’ll never guess what character he’s based on
The cyan one is Locasta, and she’s merged with a witch demon that feeds off of human hearts and consumes the memories of its human host. She’s based on both Locasta and Mombi, the Witches of the North.
The blue one is Beatrix and she’s from the same storyline as Ferthur. She’s an exorcist as well as a traveling magician on the side.
The purple one is Polina Himura and she was originally half human and half demon, but was later turned into a full demon by the son of Satan (character belonging to @/trubblegumm) explaining this storyline sounds insane
The pink one is Gwendolyn Goode and is Dorothy’s sister and engaged to Oz’s older brother. She was merged with a demon after a contract with it went wrong, and is based on Glinda the Good Witch of the south!

Since May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, I made a point to read some books by Asian authors.
Favorites from this month include
More Than You'll Ever Know (the lady has two husbands in two countries!!! and it's set in Texas and Mexico!!!),
A Lady for a Duke (a Jane Austen style romance with a trans woman heroine!!!),
Simu Liu's memoir (great read; still think his parents suck even though he seems to be on better terms with them),
Dial A for Aunties (HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!!! She accidentally kills a guy who was threatening her and then her aunties and mom help her out),
Instructions for Dancing (teenager dealing with her parents divorce gains the ability to see how a relationship ends when she sees couples in love kiss),
and Frankly in Love (fake dating, real dating, polyamory gets mentioned which is nice).

Round 1 - Eliminations
I'm crying my dear, sweet face off as we say goodbye to Garland, Folmarv Tengille, General Douglas Hein, Sin, The Deathlord, General Beatrix, Ormi, and ExDeath. You guys faced some real tough competition, but in the end, we have to let you go.
Congratulations to Yunalesca, Jack Garland, Leblanc, Kain Highwind, Cloud of Darkness, Aranea Highwind, Zemus, and Kuja! We look forward to seeing you in the next round!
Here are some of the reasons these guys were nominated in the first place. There's some good ones here.
Sin: Tidus has a hot dad. I'd never have a child by him but I'd lick his abs. and his fins. and his final boss form fursona. >Dilf representation
Deathlord: Dramatic elf dark sorcerer. Emphasis on the drama and immortality
Beatrix: Okay, so… probably more antagonist than villain, but you fight her three times, and she actually wins all three times. And look at that gorgeous outfit? She is screaming sexy to this poor lesbian. >The eyepatch mainly >The slow realization of the fact the queen she swore herself to has killed so many people and is also going to kill the princess and the struggle between staying loyal and doing what's right. Also her correct taste in men (Steiner)
ExDeath: He's a sentient tree that decided to be evil. Don't ask me why I want to fuck a tree because I actually have no idea >Big Armor Man…. plus it's so hot that he's made from void tbh. also in tree form he can use his roots as tentacles sooooo >He’s a big buff tree and he literally has official art where he’s lounging like one of my French girls. >something something wood joke >i want to fuck the tree. i want to fuck the tree so badly it's unreal. i want to stick my metaphorical private parts near his metaphorical (hypothetical?) private parts and do the do. i wrote a poem for this:
exdeath is my boyfriend. i am his manly man. i want to be his boyfriend, but i already am! i enjoy his love. he's good at some things. he's like a white dove & i want to give him a ring. exdeath is very hot. only he will do. though some people may not, i want to do the doodlywoo. i dont know how to fit a void pun in there but you know that part in final fantasy 5 when exdeath shrinks himself down into a splinter and then appears to fight sage ghido and they have a little chitchat about pizza? according to exdeath there are, "no such tasty diversions in the afterlife." which is a shame but i mean that's ok.

Not to add on to this already super long post, but I wanted to address some tags and reblogs!
Please consider, their name:
Betta means “fighter.” Betta splendens means “Splendid Fighter.” Bettas are well known for being territorial, and they were initially bred for aggression and subjected to cockfighting-type matches which people would bet on. These bettas had shorter tails like their wild counterparts, as the long tails would have created drag and given opposing fish more surface area to tear into. It wasn’t until the early 20th century when they started being bred for color and fins and became more of a display fish.
As for rats…
Well, they weren’t bred for fighting each other…
Rat-catchers in 18th and 19th century Europe were trappers who would catch wild rats and either kill them or sell them to be used in rat-baiting. Rat-baiting involved throwing a bunch of rats into a pit and making bets on how long it would take a terrier to kill them all. This was a lucrative sport, and some rat-catchers bred rats to sell as well. The two men most often credited for starting the domestication of rats were rat-catchers: Jack Black (no, not that one), the “royal rat-catcher”, and Jimmy Shaw (also not that one), manager of a large sporting house. Jack Black especially was known for breeding rats with prettier colors and markings, dressing them in ribbons, and selling them to “sophisticated ladies of court.” Some of his customers included author Beatrix Potter and Queen Victoria. Rat fancy became more formal when Mary Douglas got permission to enter her black and white hooded rat into a National Mouse Club show in 1901, and won “Best in Show.”
While axolotls were considered a staple of Aztec diets (and are pronounced “ash-o-lout” in Nahuatl, so let’s normalize not using the anglicized pronounciation) since being captive bred they have been used all over the world for different purposes. While it’s mostly scientific research, they are also bred in Japan and sold in wet markets as food.
These people are right about the snakes and I should have specified that. My examples were more to show how human breeding can hurt the animals involved, and the examples used may have been misleading.
Scottish folds are indeed a mutation of the Scottish longhair, however there are certainly breeds of cats in the same way there are breeds of dog. Just look at an Oriental Shorthair or a Pixie-bob and tell me those are “morphs.” I’ve worked with ragdolls, sphynx cats, and maine coons, definitely all seperate, distinct breeds. It’s just that most of the cats being bred and ending up in shelters in the USA are American Shorthairs and sometimes American Longhairs, so those are the ones you see represented the most.
Phew. This one took, uh… a bit longer than expected due to other projects both irl and art-wise, but it’s finally here. The long-awaited domestic animal infographic! Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough space to cover every single domestic animal (I’m so sorry, reindeer and koi, my beloveds) but I tried to include as many of the “major ones” as possible.
I made this chart in response to a lot of the misunderstandings I hear concerning domestic animals, so I hope it’s helpful!
Further information I didn’t have any room to add or expand on:
🐈 “Breed” and “species” are not synonyms! Breeds are specific to domesticated animals. A Bengal Tiger is a species of tiger. A Siamese is a breed of domestic cat.
🐀 Different colors are also not what makes a breed. A breed is determined by having genetics that are unique to that breed. So a “bluenose pitbull” is not a different breed from a “rednose pitbull”, but an American Pitbull Terrier is a different breed from an American Bully! Animals that have been domesticated for longer tend to have more seperate breeds as these differing genetics have had time to develop.
🐕 It takes hundreds of generations for an animal to become domesticated. While the “domesticated fox experiment” had interesting results, there were not enough generations involved for the foxes to become truly domesticated and their differences from wild foxes were more due to epigenetics (heritable traits that do not change the DNA sequence but rather activate or deactivate parts of it; owed to the specific circumstances of its parents’ behavior and environment.)
🐎 Wild animals that are raised in human care are not domesticated, but they can be considered “tamed.” This means that they still have all their wild instincts, but are less inclined to attack or be frightened of humans. A wild animal that lives in the wild but near human settlements and is less afraid of humans is considered “habituated.” Tamed and habituated animals are not any less dangerous than wild animals, and should still be treated with the same respect. Foxes, otters, raccoons, servals, caracals, bush babies, opossums, owls, monkeys, alligators, and other wild animals can be tamed or habituated, but they have not undergone hundreds of generations of domestication, so they are not domesticated animals.
🐄 Also, as seen above, these animals have all been domesticated for a reason, be it food, transport, pest control, or otherwise, at a time when less practical options existed. There is no benefit to domesticating other species in the modern day, so if you’ve got a hankering for keeping a wild animal as a pet, instead try to find the domestic equivalent of that wild animal! There are several dog breeds that look and behave like wolves or foxes, pigeons and chickens can make great pet birds and have hundreds of colorful fancy breeds, rats can be just as intelligent and social as a small monkey (and less expensive and dangerous to boot,) and ferrets are pretty darn close to minks and otters! There’s no need to keep a wolf in a house when our ancestors have already spent 20,000+ years to make them house-compatible.
🐖 This was stated in the infographic, but I feel like I must again reiterate that domestic animals do not belong in the wild, and often become invasive when feral. Their genetics have been specifically altered in such a way that they depend on humans for optimal health. We are their habitat. This is why you only really see feral pigeons in cities, and feral cats around settlements. They are specifically adapted to live with humans, so they stay even when unwanted. However, this does not mean they should live in a way that doesn’t put their health and comfort as a top priority! If we are their world, it is our duty to make it as good as possible. Please research any pet you get before bringing them home!

On the one hand I’m fascinated by kinship and family values and dynamics in sixteenth century Scotland, especially the nobility’s attempts to maintain links with their maternal kin through marriage when it’s otherwise a strongly patrilineal society, and I also wouldn’t presume to judge people in the past by my own moral standards in an official academic context
But on the other hand the nobility was a very small group of people in a very small country and sometimes the intermarriage gets a bit TOO gross (in my modern opinion), even for the sixteenth century and I’m just there like
#Kind of glad we sort of misplaced half of our nobility#And also one thing that the union of the crowns improved- there DEFINITELY needed to be some new marriage prospects#The Beatrix Sinclair situation or the proposed marriage between James IV's son the earl of Moray and Margaret Tudor's daughter M Douglas#Possibly other people wouldn't be so grossed out by the latter case either it's just weird to me#Those aren't really the worst examples but they were the only ones I could think of quickly#It's more the longstanding patterns that worry me- when one guy's wife mother and grandmother all come from the same family#It's never quite at Iberian royal levels of Gross but sometimes I look at the family trees of minor noble families#And it seems like the only reason they didn't all end up looking like later Hapsburgs is due to a large amount of illegitimate children#And some suspiciously easy divorces#Because I am willing to bet they didn't get proper dispensations for some of these#(Rome was quite far off sometimes; it may have been easier to do the thing now and then get it approved later if it worked out)#And then! Some Scottish bishops have the audacity to go up to the pope like 'Can we get permission to dispense in closer degrees please'#Which is just too much#*Whispers* It's the classism#Sometimes you just have to say NOPE and put the history away for the day
