The same people who hated Fates for being "le horny fanservice" are now going on Morshu beatboxing-esque rants about how Gullveig winning cyl for appeareances alone is a good thing for the franchise going forward.
Camilla bad bc pussy out armor and big tiddies, Gullveig good bc big sniddies and pussy out skin tight bodysuit. Okay.

Culture shock and the internet
I’d like to talk a bit on the nature of culture shock, and how it works on a mechanical level in our brains. Some people who tend not to ever leave their country or region don’t necessarily think about what it’s like to live in another country, and explaining the nuances of how another countries culture works would take an age, so instead i'm going to use the internet as the example, a place we’ve all migrated to sooner or later.
I’ll leave a link to a video here, put it on in the background while you read this, or better yet, on a second monitor/phone. That way you can see and understand what it is I'm explaining as I explain it.
youtube
This video is technically funny, but also a full on vibe, it’s a bit of an old meme but that doesn't make it any less of a banger song. First it’s based on the song gangsters paradise, that a stranger with minimal contact to the internet might know by heart, so it’s a strong start, but that's where the simple ends.
Vocoding is the process of taking the audio for one thing and compressing it against another signal, this can lead to unexpected and fun artifacting that in this case is used to turn beatboxing into a more melodic format. Vocoding in this way is uncommon at best outside of the internet, but still possible.
The beatboxing used is Verbalaces thanos beatbox, the movie itself is common outside of the internet but the beatbox is wholly original and exists only on the internet. All of these levels combined make the audio portion of the video and that alone is a lot of information to have to explain to a “foreigner” to the internet.
If someone with limited or no understanding of the internet were to hear this, they’d simply think it was a worse version of the song they’ve heard, not understanding the potential enjoyment or comedy of the song, and this is only the beginning.
The video is RTX Morshu with a funny filter over it. RTX, in the modern age of the internet, is used when a common or simply modelled thing becomes suddenly more complex and well animated. It’s a bastardisation of the RTX branding used to describe a particularly powerful line of graphics cards used to produce complex lighting.
Morshu is a character from an old and obscure legend of zelda game that people who make jokes on the internet decided could be made to do and say funny things, it followed naturally that someone would have him sing/beatbox.
Bringing all the elements together we have the totality of the video, stretched to 1 hour in respect for the old 1 hour challenges from the early days of internet funnies. Now that you have full context, consider what a tourist sees.
A 1 hour video of a random fat guy making incomprehensible sounds in the tune of gangsters paradise. It makes no sense, yet most of the people who saw the video understood innately. Culture shock isn’t the shock of realising everything is different in another region, it’s the check that those differences have meaning.
Culture shock is realising that the little details of your life are arbitrary, and that if you’d lived somewhere else you’d be a totally different person, it’s realising that these strangers from a distant land are just as deep and complex as you and your friends are.
My most memorable moment of culture shock was on a visit to japan, I sat in the common area of my hotel looking out the windows at a massive billboard of a naked woman trying to work out what product they were selling that could possibly warrant such an advert.
Then it struck me that it was an advert for the mall across the road, the advert wasn’t special, it was common, this was simply how such businesses marketed themselves, and i realised that in the UK a billboard like that could only be used for certain products and services. I realised how arbitrary it all was.
Culture shock is ultimately subjective, and you’ll never experience it until you travel and experience it, but I hope I've given some small insight to those who’ve never travelled.

honestly
w inserts/ocs and ships (and even not ships) i feel just so.
like. people would no way in heck like them in the fandom. maayyybe the best received miiiight be sensei, and thatd only be bc people would probably fetishize their trauma, erase the fact that the people who committed the riot were "altruistic" celebrities and make them all out to be stereotypical villains, and then a lot of distasteful memes abt the ship itself. fortunately for me mc would probably go under the radar and maybe only like. extremely hyper specific analysts would be like -pointing guy meme this is a new character?!?!- pen would absolutely be hated. they oppose all the uwu good bean characters and arent even associated with their opposition. theyd probably be branded as useless/unneccessary/a mary sue/etc. plus ppl being mad at getting in the way of ships when they are so fucking platonic.
my g o ships would be so hated too honestly. no way in heck thered be "daily -ship-" blogs, people would like. fast forwarding morshu beatboxing to explain why the ships are ooc and bad and whatnot. people would hate that the two of the canon characters are being treated nicely- ie not scammed out of their money, not forced to work off debts, not literally mind hecked, not verbally abused every other second. like how dare they be treated decently this ship is so bad, that would be the reaction. and regarding lanchan people would probably just pretend it exists for the sake of his other two most popular ships/dismiss it as being not canon.
i feel like the only way any character would be remotely liked, like aformentioned sensei, would be by grossly misrepresenting their character to be projecting to like. organized groups (ew), or instead of pairing them w their canon partners to pair them with characters i hate (or rather dont like. they dont even deserve my hate tbh). like ppl would love to have the protagonists "fix" aime or kasumi, which just makes me sick thinking about it. im sure the whole "trauma gets resolved in a literal second bc its complicated and we cant use any thinking skills" trope would be forced into the ground, and everyones personality would be flat as a board, and therefore "no you cant pair (oc) with (canon character theyre paired with), theyd be way better with (canon character who i can honestly say is considered a discomfort character) uwu!" and just. why. its true i know it would happen.
honestly i dont even know why i try. its not like anything gets any attention, and if it did it would literally be this so like. why even bother

Meme Review: Thanos Beatbox
Tumblr media
Music and memes have always been secretly connected since it’s inception like the most memorable quotes of your favorite show. From vaporwave to songs like Toxic by Brittney Spears or Roundabout by Yes, sound has been a key meme element in being as good an earworm as visual memes are. I say Verbalase, beatboxer of outer space, has made a name for himself with not only his skilled spittin’ but the webseries centered around it, Cartoon Beatbox Battle. Among that series comes Thanos, his first solo notably the most memorable beat for the past couple years.
Everything really comes together for this beat to last longer than one could realize, 2020 being the time where it really came ahead up ‘til now. It’s a deep, impactful, so fitting for the character that this beat lasted more than The Snap meme surrounding Avengers: Infinity War if you’d believe. It’s reuse value not only comes in how catchy it is but how it’s mainly used as an assertion of power, which is why you see it with Morshu from Legend of Zelda, another character still alive and popular in the memescape. It’s under the same memorability as Chocolate Rain where you’ve probably seen it many times yet it never really gets old, especially the last part of the beat.
Tumblr media
Like I say, to this day it’s still being used in memes, some knowing well that it’s still being used even when a video clip is muted. It’s one that is utilized so sparingly it really has never gotten old or overused even when 2020 was more the high point of its popularity. Even when Thanos isn’t the focal point of the meme, Verbalase really provided how a good beat can keep its longevity strong. Glad his webseries is kicking just as strong too, like the Thanos solo he made the guy has truly been earning his keep.
Meme Grade: A
He truly showed us how to scratch it
