Star-crossed lovers accept their fate with a gentle grace on Daughter’s latest single, ‘Be On Your Way,’ the first since the release of 2016’s Not to Disappear. 

With hazy drumwork and sparkling synths rolling in a constant state of anticipation, building to a bittersweet euphoria, Elena Tonra’s vocals are tender yet quietly hopeful, a series of nostalgic images passing her by as she contends with ‘not a loss of hope but a confidence in and acceptance of the passage of time.’ 

‘Be On Your Way’ was inspired by someone Tonra met in California while writing Daughter’s upcoming record, Stereo Mind Game. But while they shared a special connection, distance proved to be a dealbreaker, so the two went their separate ways. 

Tonra says about the album (via Stereogum) 

‘It has been in the making for a long time, pieced together delicately (obsessively maybe) over years, trying to make it as complete as it could ever feel [...] I think it’s more optimistic than our past records (but it still has my lyrics.. so... it’s never going to be full sunshine) but I’ve tried to document experiences, thoughts, feelings, conversations and memories from my life, and hope that we’ve turned them into something listenable, something positive.’ 

Daughter’s Stereo Mind Game is out April 7.

It's honestly crazy that discussion around testosterone HRT skews so much towards the beginning stages of it (to the point that you have dozens of guys thinking their transition is "failed" if they don't pass by like a year in lol) and what the initial changes of the first couple of months to years look like, like the classic laundry list of those early basic changes like bottom growth, voice drop, etc, when IMO literally none of that compares remotely to the depth and intensity of the long term total masculinization you start to experience like 3-5+ years in.
