when will these horrors (tummy upset) cease
#actually it started with heartburn#bc I layed down#even tho it's been like 5 hours since I ate and laying down should not have triggered the acid reflux#so I took some tums#but sometimes when I take tums the tummy ache gets worse for a short bit and then alleviates#.. i probably didn't drink enough water with em..#I'm just trying to figure out what triggered it#I had pasta with a mushroom sauce and broccoli#I also had some vegetable & bean soup#and then I had coffee#oh you know what. could've been the margarita I had with lunch I did think it was a little too sweet for my liking#overly sweet/sickly sweet alcoholic beverages always upset my stomach#and make me feel like shit#now kids. this is why I need to just buy the ingredients and make a margarita at home so it's to my liking and won't make me sick!#and it works out to be cheaper!#I also dont drink That Much maybe a drink a week if that#so whatever ingredients I buy will last me forever actually#I just. need to figure out what tequila & organe liquor combo I prefer#might try that one I see That Old Man wear the shirt for. casamigos?#like okay old man I'll cave and try the only product youve ever shilled for#bc I gotta start somewhere#it's also been recommended to me by other people too so.. it's not just bc The Old Man shills it. that's only a slight factor#where was I going with this. if ur still reading this far im giving you a kiss on the forehead

made some fucking bomb pasta tonight lemme walk u thru this journey cause it was so good
first i cooked some bacon for breakfast sandwiches tomorrow morning. very skippable step
as it was cooking, i prepared this absolutely massive chicken breast, which i honestly haven't ever really done before, but i did my best and i definitely got all the bones and veins, with some waste. then i cut it into large chunks/rectangular prisms. like a cube but long
i proceeded to season these chunks and i really was freewheeling on this one. i know a little bit in the kitchen but im honestly really still a beginner, but i let my heart speak, and we ended up with salt, pepper, trader joes umami seasoning, cayenne pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and old bay. and i was really generous here so don't be scared if u wanna follow in my footsteps
then i cooked it in the bacon fat. honestly, that might have been a mistake, cause i was getting hit left right and center by grease bullets. but it did turn out really good, i got a little bit of a char on each piece. i tried one and it was fucking delicious. in the middle of this step, i was like, idk what im gonna do with this chicken. then im like, ok pasta.
i put some pasta on to cook
then im like ok what else. the chicken was done. in the same pan with all the bacon grease where i had cooked the chicken, i added a little butter and a huge helping of that pre-diced holiday veggie blend they sell at lidl. they must have put some aromatics in there too bc it started smelling incredible. i seasoned it pretty much the same way i seasoned the chicken.
then i was like ok. i wanna turn this into sauce, i know the drill from making biscuit gravy. you gotta add flour or corn starch, cook it in there, then add a liquid, and bam that's sauce. i look around. not my apartment. pookie has no flour. no starch. i use a little smidge of her protein pancake mix. perfect
i add a little bit of water, a little bit of cream, and finally, when the pasta is done, a little bit of pasta water. i put the chicken back in the pan. i add the pasta to the pan. i stir it up. delicious. outstanding

is hard to lose weight? i'm v sedentary bc my job takes up most of my time n i don't have much free time to myself bt i want to lose weight bc it's starting to cause me health issues. i'm around ur height but pushing 300lbs n my joints can't take this :c
I'm gonna go into this assuming you're clear of any thyroid issues/illnesses like Cushing's or what have you, since I'd imagine you'd have mentioned that if you had them...
Nah. Technically you don't even need to really be active to lose weight. It's just calories in → calories out (so how many calories you take in vs how many calories you burn). Your body can't create energy from nothing, and fat is basically stored energy. If you're using more than you're taking in, your body has to start using up its reserved fat to make up the difference for energy demands, which means you lose weight.
That said the caloric deficit is something you have to stick to permanently unless you become more active. A lot of people have bad eating habits and gain a lot of weight, then go on a diet and starting eating better, and eating a little less, and they lose the weight, and then once they're at the weight they want to be at they just go right back to eating the way they did before the diet and put all of the weight back on because they didn't actually change any of their habits or mindset.
Caloric deficits are permanent. And the good thing is that you can eat whatever the fuck you want as long as you eat in moderation. The other day I had 4 brownies over a day and some pasta and I still lost my half-kilo that week because that was all I ate for that day.
Hell, you can binge eat (I did at a restaurant—ate about 2400 calories at lunch) and then just ate less the next day so that I met my deficit between the two days. Some people will occasionally binge eat and then fast for a few days, others never eat over their deficit, etc. Deficits are really manoeuvreable and are able to be tailored specific to YOUR needs and wants. Want to have large, high-calorie meals on the weekends? Just eat less calories in the days leading up to it.
But the biggest thing is that your dietary changes have to be permanent. If you go back to your pre-deficit eating habits you'll gain the weight back on, because you're just back to consuming more energy than your body can burn.
As a teen I lost... Fuck, I dunno, about 20kg on a caloric deficit, then another 20kg between eating whatever I wanted but working a hard labour job. And I'll be honest that staying busy is a big trick to fighting the hunger cravings because a lot of people (myself included) use food for stimulation and get hungry when we're actually just bored. If I'm busy that urge to eat goes away and it turns out I'm not actually that hungry. And back home in Australia I could practically eat as much as I wanted because I was so active that everything I ate would be burnt off through exercise. That's harder to do here, hence the deficit.
(That and processed foods—processed foods are hard to avoid especially if you can't afford to eat non-processed, but that means you have to eat them in moderation because they're very high in calories. Make homecooked meals every chance you can. They're more filling and they have less calories.)
You'll lose weight more easily with caloric deficits than by hard exercise, but you'll also be able to eat more if you exercise more. A 5.5km walk burns something like 350 calories or some shit, and only take about an hour and a half (if you're walking a dog who insists on stopping and sniffing every fifteen seconds). Plus getting some fresh air and exercise is good for you. But if you don't have time for it you can 100% lose weight without the exercise, it just means you gotta stay strict within your deficit. Homecooked meals are more filling but tbh even fast food can keep you in it.
I recommend caloric tracking apps personally. I'm currently using LoseIt which is tailored to your height, age, and current activity level. It's got the best range of food by brand and it was the app I used as a teen and it's the app I'm using now. You can even add custom foods and recipes so you can account for how much calories is in homemade meals.
Once you hit your ideal weight you can just calculate how many calories you need to maintain that weight and then you're all set. For example, for me to maintain a weight of 60kg, I'd need to eat about 2000 calories a day. But to get there I'm currently at a deficit of 1450 calories a day.
Obligatory if you're pregnant/breastfeeding/have a metabolic diseases like diabetes or some shit TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR before you do a caloric deficit. Also talk to your doctor if you want to lose more than half a kilo a week since that can be dangerous and should be done under supervision.
Chookas, you'll be fine. It's much easier than you think. Just requires a bit of willpower is all. :]

i woke up at 10:40 this morning, i haven’t eaten anything all day. i went on my treadmill for an hour so i burned 440cals. at 5:30 i’ll have to eat dinner and it’s butter pasta which has gotta be atleast 400 cals. ew. i’m not sure if i’ll be able to get 10k in today bc my friend wants to hang out and i haven’t hung out with her since this all started. hopefully she cancels and i can burn my calories in peace 🤞

five things you might find in my fics
AH thanks for tagging me west @aldieb! I love to notice patterns its one of my favorite pastimes. and also hyping myself up a little bit online, that’s something I do for fun. I think. This is something that CAN vary as I jump from fandom to fandom bc for example--
1. I put arsenic in the wine...and the pasta.... I have noticed that I am obligated to focus so much on detailed sensory imagery of food and drink while writing for hannibal that the temptation always overcomes me to have someone tamper with the food or wine a little bit. People are gonna start expecting it and I have to find a new way to pull the rug out from under a reader but I can’t help that its a fun trope!!
2. This one, by contrast, has been true across many fandoms: field medicine hurt/comfort. Sometimes with an explicit romantic agenda but very very frequently more of a band of brothers type of energy. I want to think about how much one character cares for their best friend? I have them show it by resuscitating them or bandaging their wounds or bridal carrying them to safety. It helps that I mostly write for fandoms where these are feasible normal stakes.
3. I think I could also be accused of being a sucker for a tense, intimate, late-night conversation but I have noticed a tendency to have them set on rooftops specifically. Sort of one character running off to go sulk alone and the other one following them energy.
4. Oh my god. I cannot forget the fancy dress-up party. I find occasion to work one in anywhere possible and also sometimes there is dancing. But there’s GOTTA be at least a brief moment where everyone gets to be fancy.
5. I don’t think I’ve actually played around with this in my most recent fandom exploits nearly enough but I do typically simply love to make characters trapped in a confined space together. Again, sometimes not with a shippy agenda. But OH, Sometimes There Is

Ratatouille soup :00 that sounds so good!! I've always wanted to try ratatouille but put it off bc I don't like the texture of most cooked veggies

Oh definitely!!
I don't really have measurements, but I'll try my best! I always cook a little more, and freeze the rest. I have about four days of food with these ingredients.. I also eat fairly small portions though, so keep that in mind!
Without further ado, let's get to making the ratatouille!
For the ratatouille you need:
1 aubergine
1 courgette
1 red bell pepper
1 yellow bell pepper
1 green bell pepper
1 to two red onions
1 can of peeled and diced tomatos
1 teaspoon of sugar
Salt, pepper to your liking
Herbs & spices of your choice (I use salt, pepper, rosemary, parsley and tumeric.)
Half a tube of tomato paste
And technically garlic, but I hate that stuff so I leave it out lol (about one to two cloves should be enough, the garlic should be minced)
Maybe rice, pasta or potatoes to eat it with. (I'll follow up on that later in this post)
for the ratatouille you gotta:
Clean and dice the aubergine
Put the aubergine dices in a bowl with salt and shake it up - cover up the bowl and put it aside.
Next clean and cut the courgette and onions. (& the garlic if you choose to add it). - Put all those in one bowl.
Now clean and dice the bell peppers and place those in a separate bowl.
Take the aubergine out and tap it dry with a paper towel & clean out the bowl - put it back in the bowl clean bowl for now.
Heat oil in a pan (any oil works but olive oil tastes best)
First add the courgette, onion (& garlic) in the pan and cook them until the onions are slightly see through.
When that's done add the bell peppers.
After those are integrated through stirring, add the aubergine.
Let the veggies cook for 5 minutes - keep stirring.
After 5 minutes add the tomatoes, tomato paste, the sugar and whatever seasoning and herbs you want. (I add salt, pepper, rosemary, parsley and tumeric.)
Cook the ratatouille for about 20 minutes on middle heat - don't forget to stirr it every once in a while.
Ratatouille pairs great with:
Rice, pasta or potatoes (I prefer rice).
Simply cook one of these in the 20 minutes the ratatouille needs to fully cook. - Keep it in separate containers, otherwise the add INS suck up all the moisture.
Also, Pasta & Rice Arend good to freeze & it doesn't work with the soup!
If you don't like the texture of cooked veggies, blending them into a soup could be the perfect solution. A friend of mine also has a sensory problem with those textures and she loves this soup. I have the same issue with mushrooms, so I also only eat them in cream soup form.
Sensory issues are way more common than most people think, it's nothing to be ashamed of! <3
So, without further ado, let's get to making the soup!
For the soup you need:
The Ratatouille (without rice, pasta or potatoes)
1 bunch of Parsley
1 Parsley root
1,5 Leeks
1 cup of Cooking cream (250 ml)
I also like to add 2 - 3 carrots, it's not a must though. - That just makes it taste a little different than ratatouille, and I prefer to not have the same tasting food two days in a row! (If you just want to make ratatouille soup right from the start, there's no need to add them at all)
What you gotta do:
Clean and cut/ dice the parsley, parsley root, leeks (& carrots)
While you do that, bring about two and a half cups ow tater to the boiling point.
Add vegetable broth, pepper and the veggies.
Cook until the carrots and parsley root are soft enough to easily poke them with a fork/ toothpick.
Take it off heat and add the ratatouille. [If you youse previously frozen ratatouille leftovers, keep it on heat until it fully unfreezes and heats up too.]
Leave it to cool off a bit before pouring it into a blender to blend it up. - otherwise the blender might leak/ the lid may pop off. [If you use a stick blender, you don't need to let it cool first & can just blend it in the pod you're cooking in.]
After it's pureed to your liking, pour it back into the pot and add the cooking cream (or vegan substitute) and cook under constant stirring, until it begins so simmer.
And now to the toping & side:
I highly recommend to top it with shredded chicken / shredded chicken substitute. - just fry it in a frying pan until it's golden brown. - Make sure to use the same oil you did for the onions & courgette in the ratatouille!
And flatbread with sesame seeds & poppy seeds is amazing to dip it in the soup. - simply heat it in the oven until it's nice and crunchy outside and fluffy inside (ca. 10 - 15 min at 150°C - that's 302°F)
And that's that!

finished Sunvault!!! really loved most of the stories and they really made me think abt ecological potential past the post-apocalypse which is the purpose of Solarpunk so. like yknow there were tons of ways in these stories for people to thrive and humans to repair the earth. it was good. felt good to read.
finished the last granny square for my friend's tote bag. just gotta join the squares and crochet the handles and line the bag with cloth
organized my pile of research for my next book of poetry (eco-justice poetry, nature poetry, eco-speculation, nonfiction on biomes). it's the most research i'll have done for any written project, even more than my undergrad thesis tbh. i think this book won't get written for a while. maybe not til my final semester? when i have time and have internalized everything
started Dark Needs at Night's Edge. wasn't for me, but i can really appreciate Kresley Cole's sense of atmosphere and tight worldbuilding.

Chapter six is finally another Zade chapter. I'm not questioning the author's choice in POV when I say this, but for personal reasons (brain bugs) I hate when POV doesn't alternate properly.
Zade really does read like he belongs on reality TV. The mentality behind conspiracy theorists really bleeds through his POV, and it almost feels like the narrative is humoring him more than taking him seriously.
Some of it is definitely just not knowing how hackers work though, haha. It could just be that it's handled badly enough to read like a parody.
His talking points are also exactly how way-too-conservative guys talk about injustice. Very dramatic. Very much "I'm not emotional bc anger isn't an emotion."
This action scene is also reading like a copy pasta. Like that one from the guy claiming he's a Navy SEAL or whatever? In one move I take out three guys. Chunks of concrete fly into my eyes and I grunt and wipe them to clear my vision.
I can picture someone's 40yo dad on the recliner with a beer talking about "back in his day" and it sounds exactly the same.
He also describes the reactions of the girls as proof that they've been desensitized... While describing behavior that sounds more like shock than anything???
Weird comment on how one of the guys trafficking humans is ugly anyway so the world is better off without him. Hey, yeah, Zade, also he was trafficking people??? Would he be worth keeping around if he was pretty instead??
He also has bad breath???
Random spanglish from the bad guys, just in case there were doubts about fighting the Good Fight here.
Zade's personality so far is all over the place. Compared to Addie, who feels very much like a real person, Zade feels like smoke and mirrors in exactly the same way hyper-conservative guys tend to describe masculinity.
Ah, yes, they're drug addicts, too. Fighting the Good Fight continues.
"Why do they always think I work for someone else?" -- Z doesn't work for anyone but himself because he's a Rugged Individual, but he started his own business because that's the other end of the spectrum. Gotta be a Boss and also a Loner.
The concern he shows for the girls getting trafficked feels icky somehow, like he's being patronizing to the reader. It's hard to put my finger on.
There's a weirdly homoerotic response when Jay comments on how fast Zade was at taking everyone down, and then we reveal there was a bet taking place that Zade didn't bother to tell us about.
"he's so weak, he's like a girl. No, the girls here are tougher. He's just a whiny bitch in a man's body" you were SO CLOSE to saving yourself from being sexist, man 😭
"they will never have to wash blood from their body again if I have anything to do with it" I HAVE NEWS ABOUT PUBERTY SIR

Zade is weirdly controlling about this. He knows stepping in blood or not stepping in blood on the way out won't make much of a difference, right??
