Today I learned that I am TERRIBLE at fighting, but AMAZING at sprinting on my knees 😭😭

Me and my friends went to a local Amtgard battlegames meet? And it was very fun actually. I'm a monster on the field, and by monster I mean I mostly just distracted people instead of taking them down because im awful at the actual combat, so i mostly just took unfortunate hits to my legs and then made the most of the situation to go threaten people with my new cripple status

oh yeah!! absolutely. i think it was the strong bond they built early in the war that made rex so sure that it was echo, he recognised his voice instead of his number or anything else. speaks of how close they were really

also!! i completely forgot that i made echo a chess fanatic, that was one of his spins i forgot to write down. his strategic mind and the battle plans he made with rex (as i recall rex stating in s7) made me think that they played strategic games like chess, card games and that hologram battlegame during their freetime.

I hc Echo as autistic so uuuh, what do you think his special interests would be?? How does he cope with masking?? I absolutely think that his stimmings would be predominantly vocal, specially repetitive ones (and the ones where he repeats things other people said if you get what I mean-)

yessss i also hc echo as autistic and i think it’s one of the things echo and rex bond over. and i know exactly what you mean, echolalia, which is actually the main reason why i started headcanoning him as autistic :)) and i agree that his stims would be vocal!! echolalia, palilalia, humming, clicking his tongue maybe? lots of clicks.

admittedly echo’s special interests are still in the workshop for me because i’m trying to find a different range of spins for each autistic character, BUT the rex the experiment drawing you did of rex watching holos made me think of marine life for echo, maybe more specifically whales/octopuses/sharks? history is also one, echo just strikes me as a history nerd, so one of the two or why not both?

and about masking: in all honesty i don’t think that echo masks that much, because he’s around fives all the time so i feel like fives encouraged him to not mask at all. you know, he offered him support and love from the get go, so echo never really learnt that his autistic traits were shameful and something to hide. fives always told him that there’s nothing wrong with him but with the others, and pushed away the kaminoans and trainers who tried to hurt echo.

but i feel like for echo, masking is less about appearing normal and more about just trying to get through social events with strangers, which he hates. his masking is him being quiet and distant, he holds his tongue and won’t speak about anything even if it’s his special interest or someone says something incorrect, because he doesn’t want to appear as overly eager or rude. so when he’s around non-brothers or new people, he keeps quiet, uses short answers and a blank face, just wishing he could go back to his safe space soon.

anyway, here’s my autistic echo thoughts, i haven’t thought about him nearly as much as fox or rex, so please tell me if you have any more headcanons or thoughts about him!!!
