Battlefield 2042's soundtrack is amazing
Please remember that this is all just my opinion, and that I speak as a fan of the soundtracks to Battlefield 4 and Battlefield 1.
When I heard about the disastrous launch of Battlefield 2042, I basically avoided the game entirely and didn't know anything about it besides some of the pre-launch hype. It wasn't until this year when season 4 released with a free trial that I decided to finally give the game a shot.
I was immediately hooked when I watched the introductory story trailer, which revealed a terrifying glimpse into the world of Battlefield 2042: a world devastated by rampant climate change, where all but two global superpowers have crumbled, whose refugees have all but been absorbed into a desperate war to control the last of Earth's fleeting resources.
When I was faced with this story premise, I was shocked. For one, just at the fact that a major gaming franchise like Battlefield had created such a strongly political story premise. But also, that the decision was made not to have a singleplayer story campaign, despite how incredibly inspired this story was, especially when compared to the mediocre stories of most of the other Battlefield games.
When I loaded into the main menu, I was again surprised, this time by the music. It was much grittier and noisier than in any Battlefield game I'd played before. It fit perfectly with the subject matter at hand. I was instantly immersed into the world of Battlefield 2042, and I would continue to be astonished by the game's soundscape as I played through the free trial.
After hearing what was in the game, I later listened through the full original soundtrack. The harsh electronics and industrial noise so strongly evoked the themes of apocalyptic climate change, and the desperation of humanity hoarding what little resources were left to survive.
I was amazed that such a big franchise (with its fair share of iconic, if a bit traditional music) made such a sharp turn into such visceral uncharted territory, both in terms of the soundtrack itself, and the world it had brought to life.
To talk more specifically about some of the tracks, what better way to begin than by discussing the Battlefield 2042 theme itself?
Every Battlefield game has had its own take on the original Battlefield theme, and this game is no different. I've always loved Battlefield 4's heartbeat-esque, bass-pounding Warsaw theme, as well as the Classic Theme present in Battlefield 1 - a triumphant return to an iconic classic. But Battlefield 2042...it completely dismantles any semblance of a traditional spin on that theme that goes all the way back to Battlefield 1942. No...it's one hundred years later, and Earth is an even more broken place. Battlefield 2042's theme is a profound statement on the ultimate futility of war: a mangled and atonal cavalcade, it is a complete reversal on the very same theme which once represented the heroism and valor of soldiers on the frontlines. Much like the Earth itself which mankind has fought over for thousands of years, the music itself is tired and broken as humanity enters (possibly) its final battle. It's brilliant.
Some other highlights on the soundtrack include The Observation of Beautiful Forms, Between the Bows, and 5 Degrees of Warming, which I've written some light analysis about below.
Observation is a forlorn yet uplifting funeral march featuring scratchy strings, echoing sirens, shaky static, and unmistakably industrial horns. To me, Observation conjures a heartbreaking image of humanity's incredible technological progress contrasted against its own role in destroying the very world it was born to.
Between the Bows is a riveting and intense noise jam that keeps building and building until a very cathartic release partway through the song, followed by another short passage of intense noise. I interpret this to be an illustration of the uncompromising and destructive manner that man established himself in the world by, until finally faced with a demise of his own making, leaving a peaceful, yet still fundamentally broken world.
5 Degrees of Warming is an insanely oppressive and heavy track that starts with what sounds like some kind of alarm or sonar ping system, followed by these dreadful and terrifying strings (I believe it's called a halldorophone, if it's safe to assume that Hildur Guðnadóttir composed this soundtrack with a similar instrumental palette to Joker). The track continues relentlessly, with each stroke getting heavier and louder, the repeated alternation between the two notes generating an extremely aggressive sound, reminiscent of an alarm system blaring at maximum volume. This is the sound of our world screaming for us to stop, but we just keep making it worse.
Unfortunately I didn't play during season 2 or 3, so I don't know about any of the specific tracks that were added during those seasons. I know the soundtrack was received very poorly from most Battlefield fans, so it must have been difficult to create more music for the game that was more pleasant while still complementary to the other tracks. But I still think the newer music present in the game is a nice progression of the same themes anyway. Like I mentioned before, the season 4 main menu theme is great. It really instills that sense of urgency and hopelessness of the battle at hand.
Even the song titles are thematically resonant! Irreversible, Load Bearing, When does a country stop being a country?, Hourglass, Tipping Points...I could keep going on about how great these tracks are at establishing the atmosphere of Battlefield 2042's world, but I think you get the idea.
I know there are some people who enjoy the soundtrack, but still don't believe it fits into the game, because games are supposed to be fun, and Battlefield especially can be very lighthearted in its multiplayer gameplay. There's definitely something to be said for that, and I definitely agree that it would make for an even better film score (I would love to see the movie that Battlefield 2042 clearly wanted to be). Regardless, I still thought it was very effective at instilling a sense of dread and importance while playing, similar to the ominous airship horns in the music for the opening mission of Battlefield 1.
Anyway, I should probably conclude this way too long post about a heavily disliked soundtrack that probably nobody will even care about lol.
In my opinion, Battlefield 2042's soundtrack is a misunderstood masterpiece of purely instrumental storytelling, and Hildur Guðnadóttir & Sam Slater did an incredible job composing it.
It perfectly encapsulates the themes and aesthetics of the world that was crafted to be the background of Battlefield 2042, and the fact that it was so effective in that makes it all the more tragic that there will never be a singleplayer campaign for the game. Maybe the theoretical campaign or movie that Battlefield 2042 could've been is infinitely better in my head, but I'm still sad that this setting will probably never be fully realized in a linear narrative.
I hope that if you've read this post, you now enjoy and understand Battlefield 2042 and its soundtrack at least a little more than you did before.

Delta Force
Delta Force is a game that is pretty much like battlefield. I personally enjoy this game and there is so much to it. It is going to be free on all consoles and will support cross platform gaming such as Xbox S and X, PS4 PS5, Steam and Epic December 9th 2024.
This game has a lot in it including gun calibration so you can adjust your gun weight and other things. It is 32 Vs 32 and you are broken up into 4 players on each team so on one side there are 8 teams on each side. I like this game way better than I do Battlefield 2042 and that says a lot.
This game just from the Demo playtest alone has a lot of potential. The downside to it is, if your squad does not revive you, other people cannot unless they are medics.
The medics are the only ones that can actually revive all 32 plays unless they are in your squad but with 32+ people I believe someone will end up helping you up if not, you can always give up and spawn on your squad mates. You’re squad mates can even spawn a respawn beacon so you can come back on it.

hiii can i request some fluff headcanons of gaku with a s/o that also likes to play video games?
as someone who also loves video games i love this req, thank you very much 🫶
— Gaku W/ An S/o Who Likes To Play Video Games
gaku (sakamoto days) x gn!reader
warnings: none
- obviously gaku loves video games, so when you first told him that you also play video games likely a little too much, he was internally ecstatic about it
- he definitely makes you play all the resident evil games with him, number 6 you guys co-op together, though he doesn't really like the newer ones with the first person pov and he thinks ethan is annoying in the game
- if you have a vr headset he will be using it constantly, if you don't move your furniture beforehand he will bump into things and claim it's not his fault he was so immersed in the game
- you made him try minecraft for the first time and he almost died out of boredom, until you introduced him to servers and mini games
- gaku seems like a xbox kinda guy so he definitely has the series x and pays for the game pass, though he has a ps4 and ps5 to play final fantasy
- playing horror games together and both of you freaking the fuck out whenever anything scary happens and then proceeding to turn it off and watch tv instead
- if you play the sims gaku will just sit next to you watching you complete your little tasks and occasionally set the house on fire, he doesn't advise you on anything, he just sits in silence
- the only game you win at every time is mario kart, gaku switches characters and cars every match to see if it changes anything but you still win and he gets so pouty cause it's the only one he consistently loses at
- sometimes gaku will just lay his head on your lap if you're playing a game alone in bed or on the couch, most of the time he accidentally falls asleep there and you unfortunately cannot move because of him
- he definitely used to play call of duty and battlefield knowing a bunch of trick shots and will only play them now on the main campaign cause kids these days are crazy playing multiplayer
- gaku does get pissed off when he realizes he has to go do something in the middle of a game, like if you ask him to do anything he will just sigh and say okay and do it but if anyone else tries he will literally tell them no it can wait until he's done
- buying each other video games or merch for christmas and birthdays happens every year

Just finished Ghost of Tsushima main storyline AND Iki Island DLC.
sighs
GOD FUCKING DAMMIT, OMG
One of the best games I’ve ever played tbh, it was beautiful, I fell in love with Jin Sakai and his character, like, he is genuinely a beautiful person and omg I felt pretty charmed by his resolve throughout the entire game—more men like Jin Sakai please. (yuna youre so lucky girl…)
I’m not much of a gamer myself, kind of I guess, I play when I have free time in my PS5 and when it comes to action games I’m a coward lol idk why whenever I am pushed into a battlefield I freak out (I almost had a heart attack when I started Ghost of Tsushima and the mothafuckers sent straight to fight at Komoda Beach, HELLO? The intro was so beautiful tho…). But Ghost of Tsushima balanced everything very well, and I enjoyed doing NPCs side missions, I felt powerful and badass.
(The way how the fear that the Ghost inflicts on his enemies is portrayed??? Chef’s kiss honestly. And the Records items, especially Conversations with the Khan, I enjoy the lore with so so so so much glee hehe.)
The characters, I fell in love with the characters. I knew I liked videogames when I first played Far Cry 4 and the characters felt so dear to me, and Ghost of Tsushima brought me back to when I was like 9?? and I was playing FC4 on my dad’s PS3. Jin’s story and the rest of the characters’ Tales hypnotized me, idk. The flashbacks, the foreshadowing, the small conservations within Jin and the others…I was sobbing in the ending and in Masako’s and Yuna’s tales. AND THE LOVELY WAY WE GOT SO MUCH APPROACHES TO IMPORTANT THEMES AS WOMEN EMPOWERING, FAMILY, QUEERNESS, TRADITIONALISM, ETC. jin baby you deserve the world.
Ngl, while I was playing the game not only I cherished every single interaction of Jin and his allies/friends, but I was glad he had the time to talk and rest, yk? And that’s why I love Yuna so much, gods.
From what I’ve seen, many ship Ryuzo and Jin, and while I kind of understand and respect Ryuzo, I don’t personally ship them. I was too excited to duel him the moment he was deemed a traitor lol, this game brought out the worst side of me (i was cackling when i got the ghost stance, run fuckers!). I did cry a lot on Iki Island whenever Jin had Ryuzo’s hallucinations, like, ouch, I would hurt forever if a childhood friendship ended like that.
(Talking about Iki Island, Kenji doing a cameo there LMAO, and Jin teasing him with “so you left Tsushima and you didn’t even bothered to say goodbye?” AJDKAKDKAKS YES YOU TELL HIM JIN)
Now, Jin and Yuna??? Muah muah muah, they are soulmates, romantic or platonically or both. Its the way Jin (throughout the story this loyalty builds up, love that) does everything no questions asked when it comes to Yuna, going with her to her tales? Damn Jin straight went and brought her heads! How romantic. The way Kenji was like “he cannot refuse if I tell him Yuna’s waiting”, AND THE WAY JIN HIMSELF OUTRIGHT SAYS THINGS LIKE ‘I would give my life for you’ OR ‘so you and Takeshi…?’ Hehehe they are so precious. They are definitely in love your honor, at least for me.
Wish I could still find the characters in the map or something after the main story ends, I’m at my new home behind Omi Monastery full of nostalgia because Jin’s home is a mosaic of gifts and remembrances of everyone he has known. Yuna’s gift, Ryuzo’s hat, Taka’s hook, Kenji’s sake, First Horse’s saddle (Nobu precious, I wish you had been there with me 😭) and lots of other stuff from Masako, Ishikawa, Lord Shimura, and many others that I don’t remember rn. Like, it is clear Jin loves his homeland, his people, his friends, I’m sure he would have made a perfect Lord, aw.
Thank you for reading my venting. Now, I need fanfics.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins announced for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC
From Gematsu
Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Omega Force have announced Dynasty Warriors: Origins for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam). It will launch in 2025.
“For almost 30 years, the Dynasty Warriors franchise has been built by delivering not only a sense of realism on the battlefield, but by the exhilarating action of 1 vs. 1,000 gameplay,” said Dynasty Warriors: Origins producer and head of Omega Force Tomohiko Sho in a press release. “With Dynasty Warriors: Origins, we return to these roots and deliver the non-stop action to not only our most loyal fans of the series, but to all game fans worldwide, delivering the most thrilling warfare we’ve ever been able to create.”
Here is an overview of the game, via Koei Tecmo:
Fueled by electrifying 1 vs. 1,000 action, Dynasty Warriors: Origins intensifies the battlefield thanks to massive armies populating the screen from end-to-end, raging for a fight. Throughout the game, players will need to act fast as the unprecedented size and scale of enemy armies overwhelm the battlefield. Coordination with allied armies is key as players deploy battle tactics in real time while slicing through waves of soldiers in the most tension-filled fights in Dynasty Warriors history. In addition, for the first time in a Dynasty Warriors title, the storyline will be told through the eyes of a “nameless hero.” Play through the historical tale of war as chaos erupts throughout the Three Kingdoms, showcasing the vast lands of China and its most ruthless generals like never before!

A purple fireball crashes before Ruby and Yang. It explodes in a spectacle of awe and power. From it, reveals a knight clad in black and white armor, gold accents strewn around. A blood red sash flaps in the wind from his waist as he looks up to the sisters, whom immediately put their guard up, unsure what the knight will do or say first.
GrimmKnight!Jaune: *Wheezes in pain, his armor still letting off smoke from the fireball he came out of* My inside's are on fire!
Ruby: Uh... You good?
Yang: If not, I'd say we keep it that way.
Jaune: *Groans as he straightens himself* Yeah. Yeah I'm totally good.
Ruby: 😑 Nice recovery.
Jaune: What was that?
Ruby: Nothing!
Jaune: Well, in that case, hello children! Queen Salem said that I can't get back on my PS5 until I capture the silver-eyed girl, so lets get this over with quickly, eh?
Ruby: There's a PS5?!
Jaune: Yeah! How did you not-wait...
Jaune: (Thoughts) This means the girl's uncultured. Oh, we're gonna have some fun here.
Jaune: Y'know, I bet beating you chumps isn't even gonna be a big challenge!
Ruby: Why's that?
Jaune: Because I was the only one in the queen's crew who was able to take on Lord Bofa.
Ruby: Bofa?
Yang: *Groans* Oh no.
Jaune: *Sinister laugh* Bofa Deez Nuts!
With a wave of his now glowing sword, the knight unleashes a wave that knocks our heroines off their feet. His laughter rings across the battlefield, much to the annoyance of the sisters.
Jaune: Oh man. I haven't faced huntsmen this weak since Saw Con!
Yang: Ruby wai-!
Ruby: What is Saw Con!?
Jaune:
