Lisa Cuddy was not just House's love interest. She was his oldest friend, who knew him like nobody else. He trusted her in his most vulnerable moments and she knew his biggest and deepest insecurities and weaknesses and loved him for everything he was, bad parts and good parts, unconditionally. House wasn't just in love with Cuddy, he had been in love with her since he was in med school. She was THE woman he loved so much he was willing to give up everything he was to be with her. Being a brilliant doctor is all he was, everything he knew and all he had, and when there was a chance to get rid of his pain but it started affecting his skills as a doctor, he immediately gave that chance up in favor of doing what he did best and preserving his skills. But when he was happy with Cuddy and his happiness started to affect his brilliance as a doctor, he WAS willing to give all of it up just to be with her, for a chance of happiness with her. "I need her in my life." "I don't deserve her. I love her". He remembered and noticed every small and big detail about her and was afraid of losing her so much that when he did, it tore him apart. THAT'S how much Gregory house loved Lisa Cuddy and how important and special she was in his life. So people who downplay her importance and place in his life and heart either haven't watched the show at all or watched some other version of HOUSE MD that never aired on tv.
