Bat Family 'Bruce is Tim's Biological Parent' AU Idea #3
The couple that Talia secretly adopted the baby she faked a miscarriage with at the end of Batman: Son of the Demon were Jack and Janet Drake.
None of those involved know that Tim is Bruce and Talia’s biological child.
A couple years after giving up Tim (whose adopted name she never knew), Talia encounters Bruce again and the sparks fly, same as always. She ends up pregnant again (maybe he needs to make/carry bat-condoms?) but this time, Bruce doesn’t stick around so he doesn’t know. Maybe it's because he doesn’t know; maybe Ra’s is insistent that Talia stay safe so not to lose this baby; maybe Ra’s knows she hid the previous baby from him and keeps her under watch this time; maybe Talia just doesn’t have it in her to give up another child; in any case, she keeps Damian and does her best to raise and protect him.
Tim has Talia’s hair, cheekbones, lips, eye shape, and more lithe build. He has Bruce’s skin tone. He has Martha Wayne’s ears and eye color. He has Ra's jawline and Thomas Wayne's eyebrows.
Damian has Bruce’s hair, cheekbones, jawline, brow line, and more muscular build. He has Talia’s skin tone, eye color, and eye shape. He has Thomas Wayne’s lips and eyebrows. He has Ra’s ears.
They don’t look like brothers unless you know enough about both sides of the family to see the connections. No one really does, so the connection isn’t made.
Until one day, when Damian is going through a box of photos in Tim’s room and sees a photo of a dark haired baby with a necklace he’s seen in photos before. It was his mother’s, and before that, his grandmother's. His mother said it was a family heirloom that went missing a few years before Damian was born.
Damian takes the photo to Tim to demand to know about it.
A very confused Tim answers that it’s a photo of him as an infant.
Damian demands to know about the necklace.
“Oh, that? It's pretty cool, huh? It was a parting gift from my birth mother. I still have it in a safety deposit box my mom set up for me.”
“Your birth mother?”
“Yeah, I was adopted…before Bruce adopted me. When I was born.”
“Who were your parents?!”
“You mean my birth parents? I don’t know. It was a private adoption and my parents never encouraged me to ask about it."
"And you never checked after they died?!"
"No...? Why would I? And why do you care?”
Damian refuses to answer but demands a copy of the photo. He secretly sends it to Talia.
She realizes that, somehow, against all odds, her boys have found each other. They’re with their father. They’re safe (relatively speaking) and being cared for. In a perfect world, she would have been able to keep both and raise them alongside her beloved, but in the world she lives in, this is better than she ever dared hope for.
Heaven help Ra’s the next time he makes a move against any of her children (she has totally mentally adopted Jason and Dick & Cass are technically her step-children, so…the whole family is basically under her protection now, even if they don’t realize it yet).

Talia wishes she remembered her mother more.
She wishes she remembered her mother's life more than her death, wishes she still knew all the words to the songs her mother sang her. She wishes she'd known what her mother would have done if –
If Father had enacted some of his plans when she was still alive. The plans that necessitated Talia going against him, the ones that hurt her stomach because he was so right that someone needed to do something but so wrong about what needed to be done and he was her father and the only family she has –
Sometimes, she'll write interactions for her mother in her mind. Sometimes, Mother finds out about his plans and she's horrified. She clutches Talia, still a child, to her chest and says, “Can't you see what you're doing? Do you really want our daughter to grow up in a world where you have to kill so many people to make a difference?”
And Father says “No, of course not, forgive me please I had let myself become obsessed – ” and he makes up and stops his plan and they become a real family.
Sometimes, Mother knows everything about Father, she knows all of the ugly parts he doesn't show anyone and she loves him anyway – or because of it. And she talks to Talia, now an adult, in a sweet, soft voice and convinces her of Father's righteousness and Talia can't ignore her and she watches herself transform into someone she doesn't want to be.
Talia prefers the first story. It's what fuels her, when she has doubts. But there would be no doubts, if it wasn't for Qayin.

Bruce Wayne was never Batman.
So! The night that Bruce Wayne's parents got shot, he developed an Unbreakable Resolve. He needed to get rid of the Crime that had taken his Parents away from him, no matter what.
But that night, he also developed a deep-seated fear of Death. He was face to face with his own Demise and instead of dying himself he saw his Parents die instead. He was Terrified of ending up like them.
But he still needed to stop Crime. He couldn't just let criminals go unpunished, and while he was still using his wealth to try and prevent it before it began, he knew there needed to be something to stop crime After it had been committed. And the Cops were useless on that Front.
He eventually found a solution while looking through his Parents Family Heirlooms.
Ancient Books dating back to the founding of Gotham and even before then, telling of a Creature from another world who his Ancestors had helped in the Past. A Being of Fear and Shadow, who owed a debt to the Wayne Family. He needed that Being. A Monster of Shadows and Fear was exactly the answer to scaring criminals away from committing crimes and punishing those who did.
But he needed to find the Being from another world first.
So he left home, traveling across the Globe training with the best Magicians and Demonologists in the world in search of the Monster who owed his Family a Debt. His travels took him far, from the streets of LA where he met a man named Zatara, to the Snowy Mountains of Nanda Parbat where he learned of the Lazarus Pits and the Demon's that came out of them.
While studying the Lazarus Pits, he was trained by the organization who guarded them. They despised Weakness, and while their leader was in awe of his Intelect he was less impressed by his body's conditioning. If he was to study the Lazarus Pits, he would first have to earn the Right in Combat.
He eventually managed to pass their Tests and eventually left them, having handed over a Copy of his research as the price for being allowed to Study the Pits.
Years later, he finally returned to Gotham, fully equipped to Summon the Being that owed him a Debt.
Bruce drew up the Summoning Circle as perfectly as he possibly could, he had one shot at it.
A drop of his blood and a splash of Lazarus Water later, and the Circle began to glow an ominous Green. Slowing, a shifting shadow began to emerge from the Circle, at first only a mass of writhing darkness before their form Solidified.
The Books he had found on the Spirit said that it would take the form of the Summoners Greatest Fear, which just so happened to be Bats for Bruce. The Form that the Spirit chose reflected that, with large Dark Wings falling over their form as if they were a Cape, and horns looking like the Ears of a Bat. From the Darkness, two glowing eyes appeared.
"Spirit, hear me. My name if Bruce Wayne, and I am calling in the Debt owed to my Family centuries ago. My City is plagued with crime and malice, rotting from its Core. My efforts to prevent Crime from the side of the Light have been in vain, Crime persists despite my efforts. In order for my vision to be fulfilled, the Criminals of this City must have their hearts pierced by Fear. Fear of Retribution. Fear of Consequences. Fear of Vengeance."
Thoughout bis Speech, the Shadowed Figure stayed silent.
"That is why I have called you here. I want you to stalk these streets, punish the criminals of this City and strike fear into their hearts from the shadows, so that they know to stay in the light. I don't want you to Kill them, never kill them. Let them live with that fear in their Hearts until their final days."
After he finished his speech, the Figure finally spoke.
"Your Quest is an Honorable one. You seek the betterment of your people's, and are unafraid to resort to drastic measures to achieve that goal. It reminds me of my Liege's resolve." It Spoke, it's voice low and rumbling. "Very Well. From this day forth, I shall protect your City from the Darkness in its own Heart. I shall be your Dark Knight."
...
Had this idea out of nowhere and needed to write it down. In this AU, Bruce still wants to protect his City from crime, but is understandably traumatized from seeing the Deaths of his Parents. He has a deep-seated fear of Dying, so he chooses to forgo fighting crime himself.
Instead, he finds out about a Spirit that his Ancestors helped long ago, and decides that the most logical next step out be to Summon a Demon to protect his City. Instead of training his Body for a decade to become Batman, he trains his Mind and Studies as much about Magic and Demon's as Possible.
He still knows how to fight because he trained with the League. He approached them with an offer to study the Lazarus Pits and give them his findings, and they accepted. But Ra's didn't want a weakling on his Base so he also required Bruce to train his body. He saw his potential for combat, and was so disappointed that Bruce had chosen a different path. He could have been Great!
Bruce still has a thing with Talia that produces Damian, he is still a point of interest from Ra's since he is insanely smart and has huge potential, and he knows how to fight pretty well. Albeit not as well as in Canon.
Bruce becomes the Benefactor/Guy in the Chair for Fright Knight (who is the one he summoned if you couldn't tell), who looks like a "Bat Man" because of Bruce's fear of Bats. Fright Knight agreed to this because 1.) He had a debt to pay, 2.) Bruce reminded him of Danny, and 3.) He respected Bruce's ballsyness to Summon a demon and command it to protect people.
Bruce still adopts his Kids, but there are some changes.
Dick is adamant about fighting Crime, and eventually Bruce is forced to let him go on patrol with Fright Knight, who has started going by Batman. Thankfully Frighty managed to give him some blessings so he had minor powers and would be safer.
Jason is mostly the same, and he is so excited that Robin actually IS Magical. When he dies, Fright Knight, who had gotten attached to their Family, goes into the Zone to search for him. He is unsuccessful unfortunately.
Tim is kind of funny. He figured out that Dick was Robin, and Jason was the 2nd Robi , but assumed that Bruce was Batman. When he approached Bruce about becoming Robin so he would stop going down his violent Cycle, Bruce Redirected him to talk to Fright Knight, who was not taking his failure to find Jason well.
Damien grew up knowing that his Father was a Genius, and the Master of the Batman, which gave him a bit of an Ego. At first he thought of Fright Knight as a Servant, and tried to command him like he did with Alfred. Frighty corrected him quickly enough.
Any more ideas for this AU? I have so many, but I think I need to stop for now.

It's probably really obvious based on how I write them, but I'm obsessed with the idea of Bruce and Talia being each other's first loves.
Bruce is a young man, still a teenager, barely out of his childhood. He's spent every day since the death of his parents in this horrible downward spiral of pain and darkness and revenge-- until, toward the end of his training, while he's working so hard to channel all his rage into something that can be harnessed for good (he hopes). He begins training with the League Of Shadows and he meets this girl and she's beautiful. She's gorgeous and intelligent and graceful, and she fights with a sword better than anyone he's ever seen. He's a little intimidated by the idea of having her father as an in-law but for this girl he'd press his luck. She likes her chai with extra spice and when it's just the two of them she laughs like the sun and she has these perfect uneven dimples that make his heart jump into his throat. Her hair is so silky and long he can't help but touch it and her eyes are a sparkling shade of sage and she tells him quietly how she wants to see the world through eyes that are not her father's. Bruce has never been in love before, he didn't even believe in it until now, but here he is, and he loves her more than anything.
Talia is a young woman who spends her time wishing and wanting and yearning for that which she can never have. She loves her father-- how can she not, he's all she's ever known-- but she's hungry for a chance to look out at the world he describes with such bitterness, to look at it with her own eyes and make her own judgements of its people. One day, this goofy looking American boy with shaggy black hair and the tensest muscles she's ever seen arrives at their compound to train, and he's beautiful. He's handsome and thoughtful and full of this terrible, agonized darkness that she wants so badly to drain from his soul. She teaches him massage techniques because he's incapable of relaxing his body in the slightest, and he lets her sleep against his chest on warm afternoons when her father is away. She knows deep down that they're never really alone-- there's always someone watching them, she is the Daughter Of The Demon's Head, afterall. She cherishes her time with him, though, because it's all that she possibly can do, because she's only ever heard of this feeling in myths and storybooks-- Talia has never been in love before, she didn't even believe in it until now, but here she is, and she loves him more than anything.
But of course, nothing good can stay forever, he has his destiny and she has hers-- but as the years go by they constantly seem to find each other, over and over again... And every time they do, he sees that girl with the dimples and the silky hair, and she sees that boy with the tense brow and that burning determination, and they both think--
'Good God, what happened to us?'

One of my favorite fics is one that deals with the Grant Morrison revision to Damian's backstory and in that fic Damian says to Dick, "We are not all wanted children," and anyway I keep thinking about that, and then Son of the Demon, and ugh it's so unfair
I want Damian to know that Bruce was so excited about his birth. I want Damian to know that Bruce was ready to give it all up for him so he wouldn't be alone or in danger. I want Damian to know he's more important to Bruce than the mission.
