oh i'm sorry i can't. i'm watching batman and robin. no not the joel schumacher one. the 1949 tv show. what? you haven't heard of the 1949 batman and robin black and white television show? really? it has robin wearing the Most codpiece and a batman cowl that would only be matched in grandeur by the equally poorly known first batman & lobo crossover as detailed on this very blog here

i’m attempting to watch every single batman movie/tv show that i can get my grubby little paws on and rate them. the only rules i have is they have to have batman or something related to batman (like the dark knight trilogy) in its title.

Batman (Robert Lowery) and Robin (Johnny Duncan) confer with Police Commissioner Jim Gordon in the serial New Adventures of Batman and Robin (1949), more commonly known as just Batman and Robin.

The next year Talbot would don a rubber bald wig to portray the villainous Lex Luthor in the serial Atom Man vs. Superman (1950).

Noticed that some of the alternate Dick Grayson Robin costumes utilize the full length green leggings. Do you know when this look first showed up?

Full length leggings for Robin has been going on at least since 1969.

World’s Finest Comics # 184. (1969) A what if-story where Batman is believed to be killed and Dick stays Robin as an adult.

Dick Grayson from Earth-One in a temporary suit, apparently designed by Neal Adams, and Dick Grayson of Earth-Two in one version of his adult Robin suit (Justice League of America # 92, 1971).

Though the variant with Dick’s regular suit, only with full leggings, was probably first used in BTAS (Batman The Animated Series, Robin’s reckoning, 1993). I don't remember seeing that in an earlier comic, at least.

Hey I was looking though some good old Golden and Silver Age Robin Comics, mainly his appearances in Star Spangled Comics and then I came across something rather intriguing in Issue #93 (June 1949)

For context, Robin had been captured by a villain called The Sphinx (of course he’s themed to Ancient Egypt (cue Imperial March) ) whos been told by one of his henchmen (turned out being Beuce in a clever disguise) that Batman was slain, evidenced by an empty cowl.

As Robin pondered his options to escape while also morning the loss of his teacher…this one tiny flashback gave us this scene

So now I beg the question; Why The Hell Can’t We Bring this Little Feature Back for all the Boots and Various Footwear donned by the Boy Wonders and even the Batgirls in operation?

It’s nifty, practical but also very very silly…as comics should be XD

did he. honestly i was bored out of my mind watching both of the 40s serials and all i remember is the 1943 one absurdly still has the best live action robin despite it being 80 years since and the 1949 one is racist war propaganda
